Impactful. It has been the word constantly repeated when describing The Patriot Ruck, which began on 9:10am May 25th, and completed at 9:18am May 26th, 2024. 24 HOURS 54 miles with a 55# ruck 112,038 steps $16,703 raised to support Big Sky Bravery and active duty special operations forces 🇺🇸 Impactful indeed. The stories and layers within this epic display of physical and mental toughness has greatly impacted those who were involved and who had the honor of witnessing. There is no doubt lives will continue to be changed by Travis Smith’s vision and desire to make a difference. Travis Smith, Seth Thomas (BSB Vice President of Development), Allyson Keller (BSB Director of Marketing), and I recount the events and inside stories as we experienced it. Travis vulnerably shares his personal story that gives a deeper understanding to his reason behind The Patriot Ruck.

The Patriot Ruck is a 24 hour physical task Travis Smith, an army veteran, designed specifically to challenge his physical and mental limits. Why? To appropriately honor the sacrifices made by the active duty special operations forces (SOF). The goal is to raise $10,000 for Big Sky Bravery, a non-profit organization that benefits SOF recipients by providing them with a weeklong post-deployment decompression program in Montana’s restorative surroundings. The funds donated to the Patriot Ruck will provide 10 flights for the SOF community. This is Part 1 of 2 episodes. In Part 1, I get the opportunity to sit down with Travis prior to the ruck to discuss his motivation and “why” for this incredible feat. We discuss the challenges foreseen and his thought process leading up to this event. Following the completion of the Patriot Ruck, we’ll sit down again to debrief. The Patriot Ruck will happen on May 25th, 2024 launching from Big Sky Bravery in Bozeman, Montana, and a secondary checkpoint location at Prime Performance and Physio. Introducing my friend and colleague, John Kaltenborn. We have worked together for years on the X Games medical staff and had a chance to sit down and record a conversation while at the 2024 X Games in Aspen. This is a raw and candid conversation covering some ground. We chat about our personal and professional lives, strengths and flaws, and how we seek to find purpose and balance in taking care of ourselves, while also being caretakers for others. John shares about the morning routine he's adopted that has helped transformed his life to curate the life he desires for himself and his family. I have a great deal of respect for John and loved the opportunity to share some of his insights.

Can you imagine running across the state of Montana?! Becca Boylan actually did it. 475.75 total miles ran averaging a marathon/day. All to bring awareness to her mother's battle with cancer. This is a mind-blowing story of hope, mindset, sheer grit and love that will inspire and encourage you. Thank you to Becca for allowing me to be a small part of this journey. What an honor it has been for me to be a practitioner for her and to watch this unfold. A true inspiration in every sense of the word. Mentions: IG @beccaboylan

It was such a privilege to sit down with Kate Pate, a remarkably intelligent human who uses her superpower in neurophysiology to change lives with her military-specific device company, and also within many non-profit veteran organizations. Kate is a Ph.D Neurophysiologist, coach, researcher, founder and CEO of her company Corona Medical. She advocates for functional and non-traditional approaches to healing, and helps people find the path that works best for them. Her methods are rooted as much in science as experience, having spend the better part of her own life healing from both visible and invisible injuries. Anna has additional training and certifications specializing in the fitness athlete, the neck and back, pre and post-partum athletes, and the endurance athlete. They are partners in business and in life, and we had the opportunity to sit down and discuss the pros and cons of cash-based private practice. The three of us have lots of similarities on how we treat our clientele and how we view returning athletes to the things they love doing in the midst of injury. I loved the chance to talk shop with other practitioners who took similar risks with our career paths. Mentions: Instagram: @movementphysiomt

This episode features Matt Cable sharing his story of surviving cancer not once, but twice. He currently has a thriving athletic career in addition to having a beautiful family even after he and his wife were told by medical professionals having children was improbable. The reoccurring theme throughout this episode is that Matt undoubtedly beats the odds time and time again. Matt is a retired USAF veteran, a member of the grid league Tampa Bay Brigade, and appeared on NBC's Titan Games with The Rock. The romantic in me loved hearing the story of how Matt and Ensley met (she is also a cancer survivor!), how she stayed by his side through his second cancer journey while battling her own and has never left his side. Her story is also one of selflessness, grit, and overcoming any and all obstacles. Instagram: @mattcable_ * I tried a new venue to record this podcast in, and unfortunately I am not pleased with the sound quality. Good news is Matt sounds awesome, but the result on my end is disappointing. I apologize for this, and I'll fix it for the next epidode. Please enjoy this amazing story regardless! *
