It was a sleepy little beach community, it was their home, they should have been safe. Lora Sousa would be brutally beaten along with her 13 year old daughter Leah. Dawn DaLuise’s story is like something straight out of a Hollywood thriller — except it actually happened. In March of 2014 this infamous skincare queen would be arrested for soliciting the murder of one of her competitor's. After years of building a prestigious reputation for herself working with celebrities all over the city, her character was called into question. As this case unraveled, we were left with more questions than answers but I imagine the truth lies somewhere in the middle of all sides to this story. So lets dive into it. On July 6th 1992 Marsha P. Johnson was found floating facedown in the Hudson River. Her death was quickly ruled a suicide, but she had blunt force trauma to the back of the head. Sadly as a black transgender female, her case did not get the attention it deserved from police, but she did gain recognition around the world. She was an activist, an advocate, and a self titled drag queen known for her involvement in the Stonewall Riots and so much more. On Sunday June 24th 1973 The Upstairs Lounge in New Orleans was in full swing with people drinking, dancing, and laughing into the night. This was a well known gay bar in the French Quarter safe from prying eyes as it was located on the second floor. By 8:00PM panic would set in for patrons as a fire blazed on the floor below trapping everyone in the bar upstairs. There was only one exit down a winding set of wooden stairs and it appeared that was where the fire had started. This was no accident, this was an intentional hate crime. So lets talk about it. In the mid 1860s following a great storm that blew through the New Orleans French Quarter, a man was out walking his dog down Orleans Street the next morning. As he rounded corner onto Dauphine Street he noticed a deep red liquid flowing under the side door of the Gardette-LePretre Mansion. He ran to notify police right away but there was no way to prepare them for what they discovered inside. This week we dig into the history and haunts of the building famously known as the Sultans Palace.Join me on social media @itstrulytwisted on Instagram and @trulytwisted on TikTok.
