This episode is part 38 in a series going through the story of the Book of Mormon. This episode covers chapters 14-18 of the book of 3 Nephi. The Mormon Jesus finishes his version of the Sermon on the Mount for the 2,500 Nephites gathered at the temple in the Land Bountiful. Then, he explains that he will gather the "other sheep" into the one fold, which includes these people and the ten lost tribes of Israel. The people don't understand much, but Jesus heals their sick among them. Then, angels come and minister to the young children. The Mormon Jesus says that he will return to the Father soon. Just like he explained the valid method of baptism, he then institutes the sacrament: the Lord's Supper. He admonishes them to watch and pray and how to handle unrepentant people in the churches. Finally, the people are to return to their homes to ponder his teachings and he would return to see them the next day.Further research:Doctrine and Covenants [sections 7, 27, 133]"Three Nephites and a Little Miracle," My Life in Zion, October 15, 2012.Katie Lambert, "Why Early Saints All Drank from One Sacrament Cup & How It All Changed," LDSLiving.com, June 13, 2016.Book of Mormon in videoJoseph Smith: The Prophet of the RestorationThe Book of Mormon online: 3 Nephi [chapter 12, 13]Have questions for Truthspresso? This episode is part 37 in a series going through the story of the Book of Mormon. This episode covers chapters 12-13 of the book of 3 Nephi. Jesus had appeared to the surviving Nephites gathered at a temple in the Land Bountiful. The Mormon Jesus gave his opening lecture that included a formula for baptism. Now, the Mormon Jesus begins to teach a version of the Sermon on the Mount that strongly parallels Matthew chapters 5-7. This episode covers the part that follows chapters 5 and 6. We look at subtle differences but also things retained from the Sermon on the Mount that don't seem to make much sense for ancient America. Some things had such a cultural context that I wonder if these Nephites would even know what the Mormon Jesus was talking about.Further research:Book of Mormon in videoJoseph Smith: The Prophet of the RestorationThe Book of Mormon online: 3 Nephi [chapter 12, 13]Have questions for Truthspresso? It's that time of year again! Time for my family to host a booth at the Rocky Mountain Homeschool Conference. While we are there, I wander around the exhibit halls and find some to interview. This allows them to pitch their exhibit outside the conference and I get content for an episode.Unfortunately, my recording equipment messed up after the third interview. For part 1 I will play the first three that had no audio issue.Event ResourcesChristian Home Educators of Colorado (CHEC)Rocky Mountain Homeschool ConferenceExhibit Resources in this episode:Christian Home Educators of Colorado (CHEC) podcast with Kaisha DavisThe White Rose Resistance with Sean BatemanThe Black Walrus with Joseph CaldaraWe value your feedback!Have questions for Truthspresso? On May 6th my son and I testified on the Colorado Senate floor (online) against HB26-1335 ("Concerning Access to Abortion Medication Services on Colorado College Campuses"). This law requires colleges and universities (without a religious exemption) to make abortion drugs available on campus to any student who asks for a prescription.I first cover Colorado abortion laws from 2022-2025 to show how we got to this point. Then, I play clips of our testimonies against the bill. Finally, I play a testimony from an unhinged guy in support of the bill.Sources Cited:Colorado HB22-1279 ("Reproductive Health Equity Act")Colorado SB23-188 ("Protections For Accessing Reproductive Health Care")Colorado SB23-189 ("Increasing Access To Reproductive Health Care")Colorado SB23-190 ("Deceptive Trade Practice Pregnancy-related Service")Colorado Amendment 79 ("Constitutional Right to Abortion")Colorado SB25-183 ("Coverage for Pregnancy-Related Services")Colorado SB25B-002 ("State-Only Funding for Certain Entities")Colorado HB26-1335 ("Abortion Medication Access on College Campuses")Colorado "Health & Human Services Committee, Wednesday, May 6, 2026"Alisa B Goldberg et al, "Mifepristone and Misoprostol for Undesired Pregnancy of Unknown Location"Ralph P Miech, "Pathophysiology of Mifepristone-Induced Septic Shock Due to Clostridium sordellii"We value your feedback!Have questions for Truthspresso? This episode is part 36 in a series going through the story of the Book of Mormon. This episode covers chapters 11 of the book of 3 Nephi. The surviving righteous people gather outside a temple in the land Bountiful and recollect their recent experiences. Suddenly, a voice from heaven says something twice but they don't understand it. The third time a voice says something that sounds like God the Father at Jesus' baptism. Then, Jesus in a white garment descends from the sky and lands among the people.Jesus tells the people who he is and invites them to feel the wounds in his resurrected body. Then, he teaches them the correct form of baptism so that there would be no disputations among his followers. Let's see what the Jesus of the Book of Mormon says that sounds similar to verses in the New Testament and what sounds like intentional edits.Sources cited:"Appendix 3: 'Articles of the Church of Christ,' June 1829," The Joseph Smith Papers.Further research:Book of Mormon in videoJoseph Smith: The Prophet of the RestorationThe Book of Mormon online: 3 Nephi [chapter 11]Have questions for Truthspresso? Here is the Sunday School lesson I taught this Sunday. Jehovah's Witnesses argue that Jesus died on an upright stake with no crossbeam. His hands were nailed together above his head. This is because the Greek words stauros and xulon only mean one piece of timber. They're actually right about what those words literally mean. Does that mean Jesus didn't die on a cross? Let's look at some evidence from the Bible and historical works before Constantine that strongly suggest a cross beam.Sources Cited:"Did Jesus Die on a Cross?" This episode is part 32 in a series going through the story of the Book of Mormon. This episode covers chapters 59-63 of the book of Alma. Captain Moroni wrote to Pahoran, judge of Zarahemla to accuse him of neglecting his duties. Pahoran wrote back to explain that he's been backed into a corner and the king-men faction took over the government. The new king of Zarahemla made a deal with the king of the Lamanites to let them take over everything outside Zarahemla.Moroni came to Pahoran's aid and helped him settle the civil problem. He could then get proper supplies and soldiers for the Nephite armies to reclaim captured cities. Eventually, the Nephites had a period of peace again. Some of the heroes retired and passed away. Helaman's son Helaman, Jr. ultimately received the brass plates. Some Nephites from Zarahemla moved north and started a shipping industry, and we don't know yet where those ships went.Further research:Book of Mormon in videoJoseph Smith: The Prophet of the RestorationThe Book of Mormon online: Alma [chapters 59, 60, 61, 62, 63]Have questions for Truthspresso?
