B
Hello.
A
Hey. I was about to.
B
Meow, meow, meow, meow. This is Two girls, One ghost.
A
Two girls, one ghost. Can you guess the theme for today's Encounters?
B
Spooky little pets. Our little fur balls or lizards or whatever you have.
A
I tried to get creative with these stories. Did you? Nice. Yeah. Like, I didn't pick, like, haunted by your cat. No, I picked.
B
Oh, I got one cat for you.
A
I saw that.
B
But, yeah, I agree. In my search, I was like, big bearded dragon, Right?
A
Yeah.
B
Typing in different things. Not just like, pet.
A
Yeah.
B
Trying to find some variations.
A
Well, do you want to start?
B
Sure. I'll start with the cat. Also psychic.
A
Also, we do have an extra story this week that will be read on Patreon in the theme of pets. So after this episode, if you're like, oh, I want more, you can go over to Patreon. There's going to be a bonus story which is available to the only Phantoms tier. And it's a separate post, but you can keep getting more content over on Patreon.
B
Yeah. So each month on Patreon, we do a full extra episode, plus two extra stories from Encounters. Yeah.
A
Sometimes three, depending on the month.
B
Yeah, depending on how many weeks. Because we just do it every other week.
A
Yeah.
B
So, hey, extra stuff.
A
It's fun over there. It's weird, too.
B
It's weird. Okay.
A
Yeah, you go first. Okay.
B
This is called My Cat is Psychic, and this was sent from Reagan. There is a content warning for a car accident, kidnapping, and the mention of suicide.
A
Oh, okay.
B
Not what you were expecting.
A
No.
B
It's a cat psychic.
A
Yeah.
B
Hey, girls. I've been a listener since my freshman year of high school, and I'm now about to graduate college. Oh, Jesus. That made me Feel old for a second. Wow. We're like, oh, we've almost been doing this for nine years. But, like, when you put it in the context of someone going through all of high school and all of college,
A
which is why I, in our last encounters, think that we should have doctorates, because we've been. We have written how many episodes of this podcast and studied how many different versions and top, like, stories of the paranormal.
B
That's pretty crazy.
A
We're professionals.
B
We're professionals. To start off, let me give you some background on my family. All the women on my mom's side have always been almost psychic.
A
Oh, that's how we are.
B
Almost almost psychic. We're almost professional PhDs, paranormal. We tried to not tell men because they often tried to dismiss it. For example, one day when my mom was visiting me in college, we were in a car together, and I randomly asked her, is Rachelle, her sister, pregnant? And turns out she had just called my mom that previous night, freaking out because she found out she was pregnant and she hadn't told anyone except for my mom at this point. Wow. My mom has always been very witchy, and she's even been stopped by random people telling her that she has a gift.
A
That's literally my dream. Right. And I don't think it will ever happen.
B
My sister is also definitely a witch, and I grew up in South Dakota, where that was more welcome.
A
I didn't know. I didn't know that about South Dakota.
B
Me neither.
A
Okay.
B
My maternal grandma had only girls, and my parents had only girls. And the background is important because it does give some credibility to my stories.
A
Practical magic.
B
Very. Yes. And I get the, like, almost psychic, where it's like, psychic almost feels like you have some control over what happens, but this is like, randomly happening hits and no, thanks.
A
Yeah.
B
Okay. To get into the story, I was working as a para educator at a school for children with disabilities. I Woke up at 5am Much earlier than usual, and I had a horrible, sinking, nauseating feeling. And to make it worse, my cat, Walter, who I was very connected to, was freaking the fuck out.
A
Walter.
B
I finally get up to get ready. I feed Walter, and despite him being a very hungry little bastard, he walked away from his food dish and he followed me as I got ready. He kept tripping me. He was weaving between my legs. He was distracting me, knocking shit over, just being more of a menace than usual. So finally I go to look for my keys, and I could not find them. I tore my entire apartment apart to find them and simply could not. And the Sinking and dizzying feeling was only getting worse. I finally texted my boss, and I told her that I was having car troubles and I wouldn't be able to make it in. And within minutes, I felt better and Walter went and ate his food. I went to the bathroom quick, and when I came out, the keys were sitting smack dab in the middle of my bed, covered by nothing. I figured this was a sign, but I was still thrown off. So I FaceTimed my mom really quick to tell her about this, and she told me that she was having really weird dreams all week. The cats had all been acting more involved than usual, and she told me that I should look up news about what was happening and if there was anything weird going on. So I looked up car accidents, and one of the first things that popped up was that there was a fatal car accident with multiple people dead. It happened at the exact time and place that I would have been if I had gone to work that day. This is already freaky. But wait, there's more.
A
There's more.
B
As I was on the call with my mom, my roommate's boyfriend comes rushing out because he had to leave, which was weird for him because I knew that he had plans with my roommate and he was not a flake. My roommate then informed me that he had to leave because his nephew was kidnapped this morning by their father. What? He didn't have any parental rights. To make matters worse, my sister then texted my mom while I was in school, while I was learning all of this, still on the call with my mom, and she asked my mom to pick her up because she had found out that her close friend was rushed to the hospital this morning because he unfortunately had attempted that morning.
A
Is this, like, eclipse energy or something?
B
Like, what is happening is so crazy. All the cats are picking up on it. The cats are acting weird, like, all week.
A
Is that thunder? Whoa. I loved thunder.
B
There's no way the mics picked that up. Cause it wasn't like a big crack. It was like a low rumble, like, opening up.
A
Yeah, I loved that at first.
B
I was like, is that a truck going by?
A
It's also hard because we're in a room where there are multiple windows, but, like, we have curtains blocking all of them. So we can't really see outside.
B
No, we can't see anything.
A
We can't see any. We can't see it outside. Not really. We really can't, no.
B
Well, like, truly, we have lights, like, blinding us. We can't see much.
A
That was so cool.
B
Damn. Okay, so all of this news was dumped within 10 minutes. So safe to say I canceled all plans to leave the house, and I told everyone that they needed to be very, very careful. See you on the other side, Reagan. Wow.
A
What's the.
B
Beautiful. And we have a beautiful.
A
Can we see Walter, picture of Walter White. Oh, my God, Walter, you're so handsome. Look at little bow tie.
B
Right? Walter White.
A
Oh, my.
B
He's not a white cat.
A
He's not a white cat. Oh, my God. I'm so jazzed about this atmosphere right
B
now, I don't even want to. You know what? We.
A
I want to cry. I love thunderstorms.
B
We weren't recording, and I wish we got to just go sit in my sunroom and listen and watch the rain.
A
We haven't had a thunderstorm in so long.
B
I know.
A
Oh, this is magical. This is the best weather to be telling ghost stories in.
B
It's true. But I want to, like.
A
We should do campfire stories out there.
B
Okay.
A
Okay. In the.
B
In the thunder. In the. Yeah. Oh, damn. Wow.
A
I love Walter.
B
Right? Walter literally saved her life, so Trust your.
A
Yeah, I do have a story similar to that, but I'm going to read that one later because I really want to read this one. So, because you love cows and because Noah calls you cow, I really points
B
to me when asked where the cow is.
A
Yes. Yes.
B
And then when given a cow figurine, he suddenly discovered he could say the word mama, and the cow was mama.
A
You're interchangeable. Yeah, I was really looking for cows. Like a cow story.
B
Yeah.
A
But I found a horse. A.
B
Close enough.
A
And it's not a ghost horse. It is a horse that is being haunted by a ghost named Fred.
B
This poor horse.
A
I think Fred is. Okay, okay. Okay. So this is from our listener, Sam, and it's called. Yeah, like I said, my horse is haunted by a ghost named Fred. Hello. Excuse my rambling, and I'm sorry if the story's too long, but I'm pretty sure my horse, or maybe just the barn that we bored him at, is haunted. I know it sounds a little out there, but just hear me out. It's not out there. We've heard. We've heard wild, and we still believe. So the barn sits on land that used to be a cow farm. This is how I found this story. Yeah, I'm not sure how long ago that was, but it has been ages since any cows have roamed the property. But I am still convinced that the old cow farmer never truly left. So there are six horses who stay in the barn overnight and any good horse owner will tell you how important it is to do nightly checks around 10 or 11pm to make sure that everyone is settled and all of the lights are off. But at our barn, we don't really need to, because the cow farmer does it for us. The ghost cow farmer keeps mine best. If you do happen to be there late at night, you will hear the stall doors gently rattling, like someone is checking each single one to make sure they're latched.
B
Wow.
A
The horses are never spooked. In fact, I think they like the ghost. Sometimes they'll all turn to the same empty spot and nod as if they're saying hello. My horse, Sailor, has even whinnied.
B
Whined? Whinnied.
A
Is that how you. Yeah. At him. That's how I know that our ghost is friendly and he just wants to keep our babies safe at night. There was one moment I will never forget. Sailor was recovering from a pretty scary bout of colic, and I went back to the barn to check on him late at night, to my surprise and comfort, I saw a misty figure shaped like a man sitting quietly on a trunk across from Sailor's stall.
B
Oh.
A
Gently petting Biscuit, one of the barn cats.
B
Oh, this is such a delight. I know. Dream Farm.
A
I know. I felt like he was watching over the cat and Sailor. Thankfully, Sailor made a full recovery, and I like to think that Fred helped with that. Yes, Fred. That's what I call him. I'm not sure why, but it just feels right. And Fred also helps for the chores. More than once, I have found piles of hay strings neatly thrown away, even though no one will admit to doing it. And if you know horses, you know how dangerous hay strings can be. If it gets mixed in with the hay for horses, it can bind their intestines and become extremely deadly. I did not know that.
B
Hay strings. So, like, literally a string, like a twine? Yeah.
A
But Fred seems to take care of it. He even sweeps up old hay in the loft and tidies up like a helpful, ghostly farmhand. I've asked the other woman at the barn if they're the ones cleaning, and everyone's just as baffled as I am.
B
This is the best I know.
A
And Fred isn't just a night owl. Even in the mornings, while I'm there doing chores completely alone, I will hear soft shuffling or banging, even though all the animals, including Biscuit and Gravy, both barn cats, are outside. And it feels like Fred is there with me, working by my side. And he's never made me uncomfortable. He mostly keeps to himself and clearly prefers the horses to the humans. But, hey, no complaints from me. He is keeping the barn clean, peaceful, and safe. I love listening to two girls, one ghost, while I do chores. And I often play it out loud since I'm usually the only one there in the mornings and the horses seem to enjoy it. They'll stay quiet, sometimes even responding or giving gentle head nods or neighing. It's honestly very adorable. And I think Fred might be a fan, too, because whenever you ladies start sharing a ghost story, that usual sound of rattling stall doors goes quiet, as if Fred has to stop his work to listen to you.
B
Wait, I love this.
A
Yes. I'll often get an image in my mind of an elderly farmer leaning against the wall, listening intently while I go about my morning routine.
B
We are happy to. To entertain you and Fred.
A
Absolutely.
B
I love him. I think he might be my favorite ghost I've ever heard of. Yeah, magical, because also, it's, like, aspirational, you know? Like, I didn't even think that that was a possibility in spirit form to just be able to do all that to you. Now, wait, live on a horse farm? I could go live on a farm.
A
When you're a ghost. Yeah.
B
I think I'm going to.
A
Sending all my love from Cape Cod, Massachusetts, from Sam. And we have a picture of sailor.
B
So cute.
A
And then this is Biscuit, the barn cat, just sleeping on the car.
B
Dude, Biscuit's big. I can't imagine how big. Gravy is
A
so sweet. Isn't that so special?
B
Okay, I know very little about horses, and I don't know if people, like, actually do, like, the carrots and the sugar cubes or if that was just something that, like, kids get to do when they go visit horses.
A
But, like, when I was in Iceland, we went to, oh, my God, the coolest place. The tomato farm. So cool. But they have horses on the property, and.
B
And they have this Icelandic horses, the
A
Icelandic horses, but they had this big block of sugar, and the horse was just going and eating. Was very cute.
B
Icelandic horses. Did you learn that? Because they told us Icelandic horses can be exported, but they can never be. No horse can ever be brought back.
A
The only horse on Iceland is the Icelandic horse.
B
Yep. All to say that I have an idea to see if, like, Fred would be interested in it where, you know, like, the. Like, a ice cube dispenser or whatever, or, like, a soap dispenser, like, if you can get those for, like, sugar cubes and, like, little treats and stuff for.
A
Oh, for Fred to give.
B
Yeah. So, like, not the one that's, like, hard to turn the coin, but like
A
a sensor one, Like. Yeah, yeah, like a.
B
So that he can give some hand sanitizer to his. To his house.
A
I like that. I like that idea.
B
Okay, I have one called Heartwarming Pet Visit. And don't worry, because the one after that is called the Devil Touched Me. So we're going to break things down.
A
We got a little variety in this episode.
B
Our heartwarming pet visit was sent in from Hannah last summer. In 2024, my family had to make the heartbreaking decision to put down our family dog. Our family dog was named Piper, and she was 13, and she had lived the best life that a dog could.
A
13 years is a long time for a dog.
B
It is. Especially if they're a larger dog, too.
A
Yeah.
B
Jump to September 2025. Just over a year later, I purchased and moved into my own home. She's over 100 years old, and I live here alone, so I've been wondering if anything spooky will happen, but. But nothing to report so far. Okay, so back to the story. The night of October 26th into October 27th. I woke up out of the dead of night. I'm a pretty heavy sleeper, so I usually don't wake up. This does not happen. Anyway, I woke up to the sound of dog claws clicking on the wood floor. Like the sound of a dog's paws when they walk across the wooden floor. If, you know, you know. I sleep with my bedroom door closed, and I heard this noise coming from just outside of my door, but my bedroom door is off the living room, and my living room rug takes up almost all the space in front of the bedroom door, so there really is barely any hard wood showing at all. The sound was so consistent, it sounded like it was walking, but that would be impossible to do in front of my door. And with the layout of my house. And not to mention, I don't have any pets. It's just me. The weirdest part about all of this is I woke up to the sound completely calm. I remember thinking, huh, it's just a dog. And then rolling over to go back to bed. This was strange because I'm totally the person that would get scared of any little noise and completely freeze. Not to mention, again, that I don't have a dog. So why would I be calm about hearing a dog in my house? I remember waking up that morning and remembering the whole thing, thinking, maybe it was the new house being haunted by a dog. I lived here for over a month at this point. And this was my first time experiencing anything. Later that day, I saw a TikTok that October 27th is the day that your pets can come back to visit for their Day of the Dead.
A
I didn't know this.
B
I just about shit my pants when I saw that. I FaceTimed my sister to tell her on the way home from work that day. And we both just started crying. Oh, so special. While still on the phone, I noticed that the moon was already out. And I noticed the moon phase was a waxing crescent. And this is the moon phase that was the same moon phase the night that we had to put Piper down, which my sister and I both have now tattooed on our wrists. Safe to say that Piper did pay me a visit that night. And I think I was so calm because I knew the footsteps sounded just like hers. It was so familiar. See you on the other side, Hannah. And we don't have a picture, unfortunately, of Piper, but we can feel her loving her.
A
We can absolutely feel her. That's so beautiful. I had no idea that October 27th is said to be the day pet
B
Day of the Dead.
A
Wow.
B
Yeah.
A
That's so beautiful.
B
So beautiful. I guess I have a question for people who celebrate Day of the Dead, too, which is. I know, like, people do the altars like a friend does or whatever.
A
Yeah.
B
Do you do a separate one for your pets, or is it all together, like family and pets? Hmm. Someone who knows more than me.
A
Let us know.
B
Please let us know.
A

A
I have one from a pet sitter, and this is our listener Chilli, who says, I get paid to sleep in haunted houses.
B
Damn. Can I just say, my scariest moment as a dog sitter was when the guy who I was or I wasn't a dog sitter. I was a dog walker.
A
Yeah.
B
And I think the guy who, like, I normally pick up his dog wasn't at work or, like, was working from home that day, but, like, didn't say anything. It was still, like, I still had to enter the home.
A
Yeah.
B
And I could hear him creeping around upstairs, and I was so panicked that,
A
like, someone had broken or something.
B
Yes.
A
Yeah.
B
And then There was like one other time where there was a teenager homesick from school.
A
Yeah. And you didn't know and I didn't know.
B
And he was sitting on the couch next to the door. So I open up the door and I. I was like, hello. Be sweet. And doing all my, like, little things. And like, Charlie. And we're like, dancing. And then I look over, I'm like, not expecting. Sorry.
A
Yeah. Bam. That is wild.
B
I'm like, making out with his dog.
A
He's just staring at. He's like, texting his friends like, yo, the weirdest chick. Sweaty girl just came and made out with my dog. Okay. Hello, ladies. I love the pod. Thanks for giving us a safe place to share our experiences. But yeah, I'm gonna get right into it. As the title suggests, I do indeed get paid to sleep in haunted houses because I am a pet sitter. I've been a pet sitter for 10 years now. And this means living in clients houses while they're away on holiday or business and basically following their routine from a few days to several weeks. And I'm not your average pet sitter.
B
I'm a cool pet sitter.
A
I'm a cool pet sitter. Most pet sitters look after dogs and cats. I look after pretty much everything. Horses, sheep, goats, pigs, chickens, rabbits, rats, spiders, snakes.
B
Holy.
A
If someone can keep it as a pet, I've looked after it.
B
You are way braver. Because I feel like there's no way I would say yes to a snake. A spider. I'm not afraid of snakes, but, like,
A
having to, like, feed it. Rats. Little mice. Oh, yeah.
B
Like little frozen mice.
A
The spiders is the. Where I.
B
The spiders. I would not.
A
I would love to babysit a pet rat. I actually would love. I would love a pet rat. I think they're so cute.
B
I agree with you.
A
Hat takes.
B
It's just unfortunate that you can't just collect them from the streets because it's just dirty. You have to start from the beginning. Otherwise there would be a rat distribution system. System.
A
Because they're literally everywhere, especially in Boston. Okay. So I am based in southeast of England and I have stayed at a lot of very old, very grand houses. I think the oldest house I had stayed in was built in the 1600s, but most are from the late 1700s into 1800s. Old farms with a lot of land and dilapidated outbuildings covered in ivy and crumbling brick.
B
Beautiful.
A
Beautiful.
B
It's like the movie the Holiday.
A
With these old houses come a lot of stories.
B
Yeah.
A
So being on my own in these houses has Never bothered me. I take my cues from the animals that are in my care because always trust your pets. If they weren't concerned, neither was I. But there have been a few times where I've been anxious. Most stories start the same. I'm sitting in some strange living room, kitchen, bedroom, reading a book or watching tv, letting my guard down as I chill out for the evening. And then I'll hear it. The nothingness. It's like a complete absence of sound. Like a combination of sticking your fingers in your ears and the way a forest suddenly stills when a predator is near. The pressure in my ears becomes deafeningly silent. And that is when I know I'm going to experience something. It's usually sound. Because I am clairaudient, I hear things others don't, which is ironic because I'm also hard of hearing in one ear due to a medical procedure gone wrong when I was a child. But maybe that's why she's more clairaudient.
B
Yeah. This also reminds me, like, I'm trying to picture what it would sound like. And it almost reminds me of. We had one at LMU, where you, like, enter the sort of, like, sound vortex. And it's like you're in this little bubble and everything is silent, but you can almost hear yourself.
A
Where was this? At lmu?
B
What, you never walked it? What is it on the walking path? Like, if you go on the perimeter,
A
on the edge there? Yeah, I didn't.
B
Yeah, you didn't go into it?
A
I think I did, but, like, I don't recall it being, like, so amazing. Yeah.
B
What? They have one over at Hammond Castle over here, too.
A
Oh, that's cool.
B
Yeah, it's like a library room.
A
Oh, I like that.
B
And you just stand in the center of it and it sounds like what she's describing.
A
The sounds I hear can be anything. Voices, animal noises, doors banging, bells, moving furniture. Being the diligent pet sitter I am, I will often get up and search the house, check on the animals, and make sure I can debunk the sounds. However, there are times when I know without a shadow of doubt that nothing in this realm made those noises. Like a name being screamed out in anger, a terrified cry, a pained howl, a party piano music. And when you're in a house that's not your own, on your own, it's pretty shocking, but I tend to make a coffee, settle down, and just ask if everyone's okay. And generally, things will calm down. But there have been a few interesting houses with ghosts that I've gotten used to over the years and some families do warn me of extra activity. But a lot of my clients refuse to acknowledge anything and are in complete denial that their homes are haunted. One house and the family I've affectionately named their ghost, Mortimer. Mortimer opens the back door whether it's locked or not, walks loudly across the kitchen, stomps up the stairs and slams the main bedroom door shut with these sounds. You never see Mortimer, you just hear him. And with these sounds comes the overwhelming smell of cigars.
B
Wow.
A
I've heard Mortimer several times and I just need to remember to close the back door because he always leaves it open. He slams the upstairs door, but leaves.
B
Well, he's trying to air out the smoke.
A
Another house. This is one where the family refuses to believe that their house has other guests, which this house is now up for sale. But they have two really big dogs. I mean the size of bears. These are huge dogs. And they have two cats. Quite often I'll be sitting in the living room when all of a sudden both the dogs and cats will look up at the top right corner of the room, slightly behind me in the doorway. All four at the exact same time.
B
Oh my God.
A
It's quite unnerving to suddenly find yourself being the only one unable to see the thing that four animals are clearly seeing. Standing just few feet away in another house, which is quite large that I do sit for. I stay in what was once the servants quarters. And quite often in the evenings, as the sun starts to lower in the sky and turn the old shell of the farm buildings into a burnt orange, I hear the hustle and bustle of kitchen life. Pots and pans clicking, indistinct chatter from cooks and maids, a servant bell ringing, chopping of food on wooden serving.
B
Damn. Are you going into mansions like, I feel like these places are giant.
A
Well, this is a grand house.
B
Yeah, the whole place is a grand house to life.
A
Until I walk into the kitchen to find it truly silent except for a lone, mildly confused cat. See, this is like again, like, what is time?
B
Yeah.
A
I will tell you one of my more worrying encounters. It was in one of those places where the wood beams in the ceiling are too low. Where doorways are so small you have to duck through them. Windows so fragile. The wind whistles through the cracks and the stairs are at all weird angles and crooked. This bedroom was huge. A massive super king sized bed with plenty of room around it. And off to the side, down a few steps, was a bathroom. This bathroom is a part of the bedroom. There's no door. It's Just a weird separate area. You know, these old houses are designed different. Remember that one house in Marblehead we looked at together where every room was attached to each other?
B
Oh yeah. And then you had to draw basically through the third floor. And then there was this like random open drop off where like I was like, very unsafe. Yeah, those houses are. Oh, man. My friend Kelsey, I know I've said this before, but her family house in Connecticut is. As adults, we play hide and seek because it is the scariest.
A
Like the conjuring house.
B
Every single. Like I've been there so many times and I still don't confidently know the layout of the house. There's too many turns and closets and little stairwells.
A
And so I think this is one of those houses. So as context, I take a small nightlight with me to these houses so that if I do wake up in the middle of the night or if there's an emergency, I have a light that I don't have to go fumble for a light switch. However, I also wear an eye mask so I can see without this light blinding me. So I was laying in bed, drifting off to sleep with this eye mask on, when all of a sudden that silence surrounded me. And then I start to hear footsteps. Only I don't just hear them, I feel them. Because in such an old house you can feel each footstep shudder. The furniture, the bed vibrated with this heavy footfall of each step. They walked from the door of the room around the bed, to the bathroom, then back again. Only they didn't go back to the door. No, they stopped at the side of the bed, the side that I was laying in. I had these footsteps walk around the bed and stop next to me. And Chili's wearing an eye mask. I hold my breath. I give myself a mental pep talk, convince myself it's just one of the big dogs. I gingerly lift the eye mask, bracing myself to be face to face with a wet nose and waggy tail. Or at least wanting that. But I rise the mask and I see nothing. The dogs are in their beds in the corner and they're not asleep. They are looking at the space right next to me. Before I could raise my gaze, I feel a heavy indent on the mattress beside me, like someone had just sat down next to me. My heart was pounding. I look at the sheets just inches from my bent knees as I lay in a fetal position and I see a small round indentation as if something is sitting there. Feeling sick. I glance back at the dogs and see they are still looking at above me. That's when I feel like I'm about to pass out. My mouth gets dry, my heart's aching in my chest. The pressure in my ears is so intense. And I look up above the bed and I hear a low rumble. And there is a face. A man's face, disembodied, floating, staring down at me. With features in an angry snarl, eyes radiating hatred, mouth in a pained grimace, with sharp cheekbones and heavyset brows. Nuh. I said. Nuh. I rolled over to the other side of the bed as I didn't want to disturb whatever was sitting next to me. I exited the room swiftly followed by the dogs, who appeared just as happy to leave the room as I was. And we all slept in the living room for the rest of my stay there.
B
This literally feels like haunting a Bly manor. It feels like she, instead of going to, like, watch the children, she's like watching these pets. And there's these giant entities and figures and ghosts all around. Well, the fact there's two.
A
Something sat down next to her. And then this, like, without a body, clear face. She could see every detail of the face staring down at her.
B
It's not good. Where are the dogs to protect you? Why aren't they chasing you?
A
They're staring. If I were a dog. I'm sorry, that's not my business. Not my job.
B
Every night.
A
So my pet sitting days have had me witness ghostly ladies in white, galloping phantom horses, snarling black hounds, which are admittedly very scary, and shadow people. But I'm rather blase about it most of these days because I see it a lot. I will see picture frames straight one minute and tilted the next. House keys put in weird places, TVs and lights flickering by themselves at this point. All relatively commonplace. A lot of my friends actually think I'm a skeptic due to how relaxed I am. And the truth is I just don't talk to some people about it because not everyone gets my ghost stories. I come from a line of witches and I'm a practicing Wiccan, but I like to keep it to myself. Deep breaths, ladies. You've got your guides. You're safe. See you on the other side. Chilli and Chili sent us a bunch of pictures with like, the pets.
B
Oh my gosh. So sweet. Yeah, it's also like in my mind, I just didn't even comprehend that people would be dismissive of the paranormal. In England.
A
It's everywhere. Even in, like, the most haunted places. There's probably people like in Mexico and the Philippines. There are probably still people who don't. Yeah, I know.
B
Move somewhere else. That's where the ghosts are. Respect them.
A
The ghosts are everywhere. You can't run from them. If they want to haunt you, they'll haunt you.
B
Well, I can say that Chili's a very brave person because not only are some of the pets that Chili's taken care of kind of terrifying, but all of these hauntings. Oh, my God.
A
I feel like Chili is the best person to be a pet sitter in the south of England.
B
Oh, definitely.
A
Like, it's like those listings where I feel like occasionally they'll come out or other times they're like, they're fictional where it's like, house sitter wanted in strange house. Like, it's like the warning of like, hey, we haven't been able to keep a sitter because this house is haunted.
B
Yeah. Something weird is going on.
A
Don't worry, Chili, Chilli's got it.
B
Chilli is your person.
A
Yeah.
B
But also, I feel like pet sitting, like an overnight sitting or house sitting is kind of scary to me because I just feel like if the house is being watched or the family was being watched by anyone, and it's like, oh, now they're gone. I'm gonna break in or I'm gonna do this or do that.
A
It's like you're scared of real people.
B
I'm scared of real people, yeah. And other people's expectation of the house being empty. Surprise. It's me and the snake. It's scary.
A

I have a story called the Devil Touched Me. Hi girls. First off, I found your podcast on YouTube three days ago.
A
Hi.
B
I appreciate that you already have written us an email.
A
Right.
B
I have some experiences to share with you. But first a little bit about me. I'm 28, I'm from northeast England, I have three younger brothers and I have a large family. I'm engaged to a wonderful man who is not fazed by the spooky or paranormal and two children who are spooky.
A
Great.
B
I guess I should start from the beginning. Although I have no memory of this specific event, it came about when I was telling my grandparents about the energy experiences that I was having at their home. And they told me this when I was a toddler. So I was like 2 or 3 years old. My auntie was taking me to the bathroom upstairs at my grandparents house. They have a large farmhouse, lots of acres and one neighbor miles away. The stairs at my grandparents are wide, they're open, they're central to the house. And while my auntie was Taking me upstairs, I looked up, waved, smiled, and said hello. My auntie asked me who I was talking to and I said, the old lady. My auntie said, okay, well, there's no one on the stairs. And then picked me up and ran with me to the bathroom.
A
Oh, man.
B
I later asked my parents and my auntie about this story, and they all laughed and said that they do remember it, but they just chalked it up to children's imaginations.
A
That's what they wanted it to be. Yeah, but there was an old lady there.
B
I believe that there is an old lady spirit at my grandparents. When I got older, I would sleep over as a teen and spend many nights there on my own when they went out for a few hours. And I would always feel like I wasn't alone. And I would have every single light on in this large house. The first experience paranormally that I remember was at my parents current house. We moved there when I was about five. But I was always scared of the kitchen in the hallway. At night, I would not leave the living room without taking one of my brothers with me. And I very often used my power as the bigger older sister to use them as a protective shield throughout the house. I did the same thing.
A
I feel like the older sibling power
B
you did that you definitely had to follow me around. During spooky moments in our house, I've always felt a presence lurking in that particular area of the home. Upstairs, my bedroom was at the end of the landing with the bathroom directly opposite. My parents room was next to mine, and then my brother's rooms were next to the bathroom. The way the house was laid out was the bathroom light was on. And when it was on, it would shine through my brother's bedroom window. But I would not and still would not go to bed or sleep without the bathroom light on so that it would light up the landing and my bedroom. Eventually, we get a dog. Our precious dog, Holly. She was a small dog and we were her fifth home at just 10 weeks old.
A
Poor baby.
B
Oh, Holly, she had some issues, needed some patience. I know she had some issues with her back legs. She couldn't jump very high, so she often struggled to jump straight on the bed. Get her those little stairs, right? Get her an elevator, put her in your purse, Carry her around everywhere. She would sleep with me every single night. But there were nights that I couldn't sleep because I knew it was lurking and I could feel this very dark, negative energy in the air. Holly would stand at the top of the stairs and bark at whatever was Downstairs. And when I'd call her back to my room, she would come. But sometimes she got spooked and ran back on her own. I believe that when she ran back, it was when whatever it was downstairs started to come up.
A
Yikes.
B
I would put the lamp on in my room. I would just cuddle my dog and go to sleep, ignoring whatever was downstairs or on the landing. One night, I was in my room, lights on, chilling out. I've suffered with insomnia since being a young child, and I could hear the usual sounds of this entity downstairs. And at this point, I was used to it. It was kind of like background noise. But this one night, it woke up my mom, and she came out of her room and said, who's out of bed? I told her that the three boys were sleeping in their rooms and that me and Holly were on my bed. And then she asked again, okay, well, who's out of bed? And in the kitchen? I told her no one. And I had told her in the past about this entity, and she always said I was being silly. She said that she could hear banging downstairs. Someone has to be there. I told her not to worry, it's just the ghost, mom, go back to bed.
A
She's the one who's like, yeah, don't worry.
B
She turned, grabbed something to use as a weapon, and then went downstairs. I followed behind because I wouldn't go any further than halfway down the stairs and then stop and look over the banister to watch from there. Mom carried on walking down the stairs, turning and walking all the way down the hallway, past the living room and into the kitchen doorway. She turned on the kitchen light, and nothing. No one was there. And once the light on, I felt the energy disperse a little bit. I then went to go join my mom, and she checked the back door, she checked the windows, she checked everywhere. The utility room, the fixed stairs, all of the doors, everywhere. Everything was locked. No one was in there. We went back to our rooms. My mom went to sleep, but the entity was back, no longer banging. But this time I could hear its footsteps back and forth at the bottom of the stairs. All night long.
A
Oh, all night.
B
A few years after this, I'm 15 or 16 years old. I was having another sleepless night. So again, my room was lit by the bathroom light. Everyone else was asleep except for our dog, Holly. Holly was at the top of the stairs, barking and growling, warning and trying to be intimidating. But something was wrong. It was around 2am My youngest brother was 10, and school was the next day, and I didn't want to wake anyone up. So I called for Holly, but she didn't come. I could feel the dark, cold, negative energy, but it seemed to be stronger than I'd ever felt it before. And now Holly was losing it. She was barking, growling, warning. I looked down the hallway and the stairs were darker than usual, even with the bathroom light on. I called out to Holly again and again. She didn't come. Oh, but she did move up a step to the very top of the stairs, turned her face to the stairs and continued barking. Oh, she's probably so scared. I know. I knew this entity was coming up the stairs. I just knew. I could feel it. I had a gut feeling. So I laid down, I pulled the covers up, and I continued to call for my dog. Holly. Holly, come here. But she isn't moving. She's still barking.
A
She's trying to protect her dog.
B
I know. I squeezed my eyes shut. I tried to control my breathing. But within the same second as doing that, my dog whimpered in the hallway. And then my legs are hit. I open my eyes and it's Holly just hitting the side of my body. She digs under the covers underneath my leg. She curls up under me. She's so scared. She's shaking. She's whimpering.
A
Oh my God.
B
I don't think that she jumped on the bed. I fully believe she was thrown onto the bed.
A
Oh, poor baby.
B
I immediately closed my eyes and turned back to the landing and cuddled my dog. But a few moments later, my leg was pulled and I was half dragged out of the bed. There was no one there. I screamed for my parents. They came running in. And then, and only then did the energy in the air disperse.
A
Oh, this is horrifying.
B
I told them. I told them everything. They said it's a bad dream. They said, it's my insomnia.
A
Your mom, literally the last story, experienced something.
B
And like, do they not hear Holly barking like crazy and like getting thrown and whimpering?
A
Friends and family believing people's paranormal experience. Yeah. I don't need to say that to this community.
B
You're the.
A
You're the wrong audience. But this is the right audience to preach that to other people.
B
Friends and family would sleep over. And babysitters growing up all felt super uncomfortable, Especially with the kitchen at night. And even now when I walk into my parents house, I can feel this thing there. It's lurking. It's watching. I moved out when I was 18. I went to uni for three years and moved in with my boyfriend and his parents in their house. For a year before we moved into our first rented house. And there was an energy there too. It wasn't active like the one at my parents, but it definitely had this deep sadness. We moved out after two years due to the landlord selling the house. And then we moved into our second rented property. It was two or three months after moving there that I was putting my five year old stepson to bed when he told me that he got sick, scared, and he didn't want to go to sleep. His dad was on night shift, so it was just me and him. And I asked him why he was scared, why he didn't want to go to sleep, and he said, I don't like the man.
A
I asked him, I don't like the man either.
B
What man? He said, you know, the tall skinny man with the hat. I told him, we don't know anyone like that. And he said, no. The tall skinny man with no face who comes up the stairs and looks in my bedroom and then stands next to you while you sleep.
A
Holy. Nope, nope.
B
I was terrified. I told him, there's nothing to be scared of. I will tell the man to leave. After six books, we finally had his bedtime over and he fell asleep.
A
Stands next to you while you sleep.
B
Yeah, yeah. Stands next to you while you sleep, not stands next to me.
A
Horrifying.
B
He stands over you. I text his dad and told him what my stepson had said and his response was lmao. Sleep well. Not offering any comfort at all. I did eventually fall asleep and I did feel the presence in that house. It didn't feel bad though. The description of the man really did terrify me.
A
What is it with this listener? I feel like the entities really like them because this feels like a different entity than the one that was at the first house. It has similar mo.
B
How do we know? Or is her experience different because now she's an adult and she's in a different house?
A
Good question. I don't know.
B
A year later, still living in that house, no more mention of the man who visits at night. But I've been struggling with infertility for years and one day I was with my mom, going to go visit my grandparents and I was really upset because of the infertility issues and I just had this overwhelming feeling and I just blurted out, I don't want to find out I'm pregnant and lose a grandparent before my baby is here. Like great granddad. My great granddad had died before I was born. While my mom was pregnant with me, I grew up with his photo always by my bedside. And she told me that this won't happen to me. Well, six months later and after four years of trying and going on fertility treatment, me and my partner finally had a baby on the way. Aww. I found out at three weeks that I was pregnant. I was a little obsessed with taking tests and I found out the day that I started my new job. I knew from the moment that I was having a baby girl and I had a name picked out and I started having all these dreams and the dreams that I kept having, it was all the same dream and it was actually a really vivid dream. I was sat in a field in this cottage type house behind me and there was a tree to the left of me. My stepson and a curly blonde haired, blue eyed little girl were chasing each other around the tree while I sat on a picnic blanket holding my newborn baby and joined by my partner. I knew the blonde hair, blue eyed little girl was the baby that I was currently carrying. And I told everyone at six weeks, along with the vivid dreams that I was having. At the same time, we found out my granddad had cancer. Oh. Two weeks later, our dog Holly died.
A
Holly.
B
Oh God. The day that Holly died, I was with my granddad and he had a really dark sense of humor and how to deal with things. And so I was sitting with my mom and my younger brothers and my granddad and he started making some dark humored jokes about her death. One of my brothers got upset and I was being awful and I didn't really care. It was a bit of an argument and my granddad looked at me and said, I know, with a pointed look. I never said it out loud in my head, but I was screaming at the time. Holly was given three months to live nine months ago, granddad is dying. How interesting.
A
Like he knew that that's what she was thinking about.
B
I left the room and cried. And two weeks later after that, my granddad passed. Ugh.
A
But I also like, I know this is so sad, but I also like to believe that they are now your child's guardians.
B
Yeah. My daughter was born May of 2023. Blonde haired, Violet eyed. Now her eyes have turned blue and even as a newborn, she would stare at this makeshift wardrobe in the bedroom. And one day when she was a few months old, she was giggling and flapping her hands, looking intensely at the same spot. So I walked over and I started looking. When I noticed that my granddad's shirt was hung up, I picked it out. I gave it to my daughter who was giggling and then she went to sleep cuddling Pop's shirt.
A
That's so sweet.
B
I fully believe that he is visiting us. Just before my daughter was born, we had moved into a new house. I never got a sense of any lingering energy in this house, so it felt good to have a fresh start. With my daughter due in a few months after moving until four months ago, June 2025, I've been sensing a sudden heavy energy. It's upstairs. And this has happened for a few weeks. One night, when my fiance was at work on a night shift, my stepson is asleep in the room right next to mine. And I just put my daughter down in her room to the left of mine. And because of this energy, I was like, okay, I have to download Ghost Tube. So I did. I used it a few times, and I was using it at night. I was doing some witchcraft research. I was making notes for my grimoire when devil came through and immediately asked if there was a devil in my home. And it said, yes, behind you.
A
Wonderful, lovely, fantastic.
B
One after the other immediately came through, yes, behind you. So I spoke out. Okay, well, you are not welcome here. This is a protected space for me and my family. You must leave immediately. I only welcome light and good. And then the word goodbye came through.
A
Okay, that's good.
B
Yep. So I responded, goodbye. Leave now, please. Nothing else came through for an entire hour. And then I got a FaceTime call from a practicing witch and friend of mine, who said, are you okay? What happened? As soon as I answered the phone.
A
Great friend to have.
B
Uh, nothing. Why? I asked, confused. And she said, I don't know. I just got the sense that you were in danger. I laughed and said, no, I just put the kids to bed. I'm doing some research. And so we started chatting for a while, and. And she went, something's changed. And I said, yeah, the energy does feel like it's getting thicker again. We'd been speaking about energy and that sort of thing for a little bit, and I started to feel it. So I had told her what happened earlier with Ghost Tube at the same time that I felt something behind me. Her face dropped. On FaceTime. I turned slightly. Maybe one of the kids were out of bed. Dan, My friend whispered, but I couldn't respond. There was this pressure on my left shoulder. It felt abnormally large, like a big hand with claws digging into my chest. I was cold, paralyzed. I couldn't move. I couldn't speak. I couldn't breathe. My friend is still on FaceTime. She's watching all of this unfold at the edge of her seat. Gobsmacked, I kept repeating in my head, tell it to get off of you. Tell it to leave. Tell it to leave you alone. Just speak. Say something now. Speak. But I couldn't. Tears were welling in my eyes until I felt a light pressure on the right side of my shoulder, and a distant voice shouted, now. And so I screamed, get off of me.
A
Get out of here.
B
You are not welcome.
A
I banish you.
B
And immediately the pressure from my shoulder was gone, and the energy slowly dispersed from my room. So I immediately run over to my drawer that has all of this, like, extremely limited, witchy things at the time. And so I grabbed my white sage incense stick that my friend had given me. She's on FaceTime. I hadn't spoken to her yet. She's still asking if I'm okay, But I'm just crying there.
A
I'm like, I'm GLAD they're on FaceTime together, because hopefully her friend can be, like, doing something to try to, like,
B
try to do something. Yeah, I'm just crying there. So I lit the stick, and through tears, I started chanting. I'm walking around my room. I'm walking around the hallway. I'm into my stepson's room. I'm in the bathroom. I'm in my daughter's room. I'm at the top of the stairs. I knew that there was something still there. It felt like it was at the top of the stairs.
A
Whatever entities, they're dealing with the same thing. I know. I don't know.
B
I could not bring myself to go downstairs. I knew that it was there. It was watching. It was waiting. And so then I went back to my friend on FaceTime. I have the incense in my hand. We're watching the smoke. We're not saying a single thing. I think I saw its face in the smoke. What? And I'll attach a picture. The next day, I took my son to school and had a pretty rough day with my toddler feeling ill and seemingly forgetting the night before. And really, I just tried to put all of that out of my mind. Until last week, I have had this pressure on my chest, a lump in my throat. It's like the feeling like when you're about to cry, but you can't do it. And so you just get this, like, lump stuck in your throat. But I don't need to cry. I've had this feeling for months. I've been to the doctors. I've had medications. Still not helping. It's getting worse. No other medical explanation. Other than possibly anxiety or acid reflux. So I'm taking medication for it. But the other day I suddenly thought about that night. I didn't finish cleansing. I haven't done a full cleansing since. I have not done a production spell. I have not felt the energy again. But I have felt a bit out of touch with my witchy side. So I'll give you an update on how that goes. But if anyone can help me work out what this tall dark figure is that I keep seeing in this energy that touched me. And any tips on how to deal with it, that would be amazing. Your spooky witch from England, Dany.
A
I'm. I don't know it like, it does kind of seem like it's the same thing.
B
Uh huh.
A
That's occasionally making appearances. Yeah, I do think finishing cleansing.
B
Okay, wait, here's the. Where she said that she thinks that she captured its face in smoke. Potentially. We'll put it.
A
Isn't it attached to photo. There's photos of it attached too. I mean, I definitely believe in like smoke and fire messages.
B
Yeah.
A
I think the photos are those drawings. Here are some pictures that I drew of what I see.
B
Oh well, we'll see if anyone else sees anything in the sense smoke. But like there is something going on. Poor Holly was bouncing around houses and ended up having to battle a demon.
A
I know, but I also love. Holly was trying to protect Danny.
B
Yeah, she was looking for a loving.
A
She did.
B
She did find one. But my God, like, how terrifying. Oh, the FaceTime thing. Like imagine us FaceTiming and you see,
A
I feel like we've had claw. We've had spooky FaceTimes or calls.
B
That's true. I did with my friend in high school, Meg. We were on Zoom one time. I've talked about this before, but we were on Zoom one time and from my perspective, my zoom was like. Like glitching or something. I don't know. It like went out. When I called her back, she was so freaked out because she said she saw a black mist come and like envelop me and then the video turned off.
A
It's like the one time we were recording the episode about Greg and Dana's haunted object collection and the video glitched out right when you started talking about the like cursed Covenant thing or whatever it was.
B
The. Yeah, I still haven't.
A
We still haven't covered it. I don't even think that's on their website anymore.
B
I have the research. Like I could always try again this October. It's been a couple years. I don't know. And that was the one where, remember, I was, like, every single time I tried to type it, I was, like, typing, like, two words.
A
I should.
B
Okay.
A
I think that would be, like, ignoring all the signs.
B
Literally every single sign that was like, do not talk about it was a cursed Bible. Yeah.
A
Okay. Well, I have a story about a cat protecting a family to round it out.
B
Lovely.
A
And it's also an Appalachian story. Our cat was protecting us from something in Appalachia. Hello. I'm a new listener of your podcast, and I've been binging episodes while at work, so thank you for making my days more interesting. I have a story. I'm not really sure what it is. If it was a haunting or an Appalachian encounter, I don't know. But I'm from Florida and have never really been superstitious. I'm just a little stitch right.
B
That's exactly where my mind went.
A
I'm not superstitious, but. But I'm a little stitious. You can't knock it. Yes. Okay. So I've always enjoyed spooky stories more for the interesting lore and the experiences people share, especially in the Appalachian area. So this story involves me and my then boyfriend, now husband. So I'll just refer to him as husband. So, month before the incident, I rescued a kitten. He was sick, malnourished, and dehydrated, wandering around our city, and I nursed him back to health. He is my baby, and because of that, he became very attached to me and basically only wanted to be around me for the first few months of his life. Aww. He would come when I called him, always be touching me in some sort of way, and my husband would say all the time that he just adored me, which is important for later. My birthday was coming up, and my husband and I love being outdoors. We love going on walks and hikes. We could travel to the mountains, and we decided, let's go to north Georgia mountains and stay in a cute cabin in the woods, private, but not incredibly far from other people or towns. And on the way, we were going to spend some time with my sister and her husband, who lived a little outside of Atlanta. Win, win, win. We were so excited. Go to the mountains, visit my sister. And we decided to bring our cat along. We wanted him to be part of our adventure and thought it would be nice for him to get some socialization with my sister's other cats. So we headed north, and everything was great. We spent time with my sister, went on a hike, visited a cute little town, then we Went up north. Yeah. Great trip. And the first day and night in our cabin were wonderful. This cabin was adorable. It had a hot tub, a grill, and our cat was having the best time exploring inside and hanging out with us. But because it was a new place the first night, we kept him in our small room with the door closed. We just wanted to be 100% sure that there was nothing he could get into while we were sleeping. We slept well and he stayed on my pillow or on my chest like he usually did. The second day, also wonderful. And by that point we felt more confident that our cat could walk around the cabin at night. So we left the bedroom door slightly open and we went to sleep. The entire house was pitch black. We were at least a couple minutes walk from the nearest cabin, and we were surrounded by dense wood. So if you didn't turn a light on at night, you couldn't even see your hand in front of your face.
B
Oh, that is way too dark.
A
We fell asleep, and my cat started the night sleeping on top of me like usual. But then around 2am, my husband and I were dragged out of sleep by this loud, painful animal screech that lasted maybe five to 10 seconds. And then everything went completely silent. When I say dragged out of sleep, I meant that. I mean, I felt my consciousness being pulled back into reality.
B
Holy shit.
A
I'm not a very heavy sleeper, and I'm used to waking up to the slightest noise. And I was also so paranoid that my cat would get stuck somewhere. And so I was a light sleeper. My husband turned on the light in our small bedroom and we immediately started looking for our cat. We thought he must have gotten seriously injured somehow for that sound to come from him. We find him crouched under the foot of our bed. That scared me.
B
Me too.
A
Completely still staring at something in the space between the bed and the floor. We didn't see anything below us or anywhere else in the room. We leaned over the edge of the bed and called his name over and over. We were gesturing for him to come, but he didn't even twitch, didn't even blink. My kitty, who always wanted to be touching me, would come when I called him, when wouldn't even look at me, was just staring in the same spot.
B
Frozen.
A
We were frozen, terrified, unsure what to do. We had never experienced anything like this. And he was in no obvious pain or distress, but he wouldn't move. And that sound was so disorienting and scary. Suddenly he snapped out of it, ran out the door, went around the cabin, scratching at the walls, making Small hissing sounds. Finally we managed to grab him and checked for injuries or anything. But he was completely fine, physically just anxious and restless. He kept prowling on the bed, scratching the covers, hissing and scratching on top of me, which was so unusual and freaky. We tried to go back to sleep. We could not do it. He would not stop. And the energy in this house was now heavy. We were terrified. We were trying to rationalize what had happened. Maybe it was a bug or another animal, but our cat loves to play hunt. And if he had been chasing like what was with all these sounds, it didn't make sense. We were like, well, maybe somehow he hurt himself, but he was okay. But there was nothing in the room that he could have gotten into that would cause such a sound. That was so horrible. None of this behavior made sense. We were too scared to sleep. And the energy in the house felt so heavy, I could barely bring myself to look out through the bedroom door into the dark hallway. My husband finally got up, walked through the cabin, turned on all the lights, and we called my brother in law and asked if we could go back to their house. We quickly packed up all of our things, left the cabin to drive back their house. I don't know, maybe it was stupid to step outside in the middle of the night in Appalachia, but we had never felt anything like that before and had this overwhelming urgency that we had to leave.
B
Hey, I mean, if the call's coming from inside the house, then you have to leave.
A
And our cat continued to run around like crazy, scratching at the walls, hissing and digging his nails into me. This continued until we got in the car and pulled away from the cabin. Literally the second we got on the road, My cat relaxed totally fine. He slept the entire drive back in my lap, purring away later, slept curled on my chest when we got to my sister's house. Never has acted like that ever again.
B
Oh my God.
A
We do not know what it was. The only thing that we came up with was maybe something stepped on his tail hard for like 10 full seconds, which is why he yowled for so long.
B
Oh, God.
A
Oh, I hate that my brother in law thinks he might have been protecting us from something and that he was so restless because he wanted us to get out of the cabin.
B
Yeah.
A
I still have no clue what it could have been or why it had happened. But I'm curious to hear what you think.
