it's Been a long time since we've recorded, even though it's been, like, three days.

Three days. And we ran into each other in Boston.

[Corinne]

Oh, God. That was the craziest thing.

[Sabrina]

I sent Corinne a text because I was. I was at the gym with my friend Madison, and I knew that you were gonna be in Boston with Brian for your baby.

[Corinne]

We did the baby boot in Boston,

[Sabrina]

and so I texted Corinne, and I was like, oh, like, if you're free, if you want to come by, we're gonna be in Seaport. And you're like, oh, I'll be in Beacon Hill all day. And then after the gym, Madison and I were walking around, stopping to lush and who's there?

[Corinne]

It was crazy. It was literally crazy because it's, like, lush of all places, too. We don't. Like, you didn't have anything to go in. Brian and I just went because we happened to pass by it, and I was like, oh, let's get Noah a bath bomb. Like, we're just, like, getting him, like, little things along the way. So our time in was only going to be 90 seconds long.

[Sabrina]

Yeah. Wild.

[Corinne]

Yours was, too, because Madison had something she was specifically looking for to grab and go.

[Sabrina]

Yep.

[Corinne]

I just hear Brian go, oh, my God. Hey. And I turn around, and you're just there. Like, what? That was crazy.

[Sabrina]

It was small world.

[Corinne]

And it was also funny because I was telling Brian ahead of our trip, I was like, what are the chances we, like, see someone we know? I was like, I feel like it's really low because it's such a busy Boston weekend, and so many of our people that we used to do stuff with, like, move to the burbs. It's like, I wonder if we'll recognize anyone. The one person we ran into, Sabrina. That was great.

[Sabrina]

It was so small world. It was very funny. And then I joined a soccer league. That was the news that I told you there. And I was very nervous because so I'm trying to be more active. And also it's, like, warm out. I want to meet more people, too.

[Corinne]

Yeah, it's a good way to.

[Sabrina]

I haven't played soccer since, like, high school.

[Corinne]

Do you remember the rules enough?

[Sabrina]

Yeah. And I. It's a league on a smaller field, so it's not, like, full regulation. But I got, like. I was a free agent, and I was randomly assigned to a team, and I got, like, a notification. The first game was on Sunday. I got a notification on Friday. It was like, your team schedule is ready to view. And it said, team name the office dogs And I just immediately went to finance.

[Corinne]

Bros. Yeah. It's gonna be a bunch of like

[Sabrina]

24 year old Woof, woof, bro. Yeah.

[Corinne]

You're like, I don't know how this is gonna go. But it wasn't that way.

[Sabrina]

No, it was not that way at all. I was very pleasantly surprised. I enjoyed the team. We were not terrible. We did lose. But the team we played against were like, all D1 soccer players.

[Corinne]

Oh.

[Sabrina]

And they all knew each other. We were all strangers, just met for the very first time. And for that we played pretty well.

[Corinne]

Oh, so this was like the first day that everyone was. Yeah. Oh, okay.

[Sabrina]

Yeah.

[Corinne]

For some reason I thought you were like, joining a group that already existed.

[Sabrina]

No, that's what I thought too.

[Corinne]

Okay.

[Sabrina]

But I guess. But I guess there was one person who had started the team with a co worker. It was a guy and a girl. The girl picked the name and then she slipped her disk and she couldn't even. She's no longer on the team. I know.

[Corinne]

Oh, she do it to be ironic?

[Sabrina]

I don't know.

[Corinne]

Didn't I tell you that? Because you told me the name. I said, what do you bet? Like, it's two people that created the name, and you were right. And the rest is just like, it's going to be a mod podge of people.

[Sabrina]

It was a mod podge of people. I will say I had a psychic moment. So I was picking out my cleats because I had to buy new cleats. And I usually like to have, like, colorful cleats. That's. That was like a thing that I did in high school. But I was like, okay, I'm older now. I'm more sophisticated. I'm a lady now. But I was also.

[Corinne]

You need white cleats or black cleats?

[Sabrina]

Well, I did. I got white cleats. But I was. I was like, I don't want, like, too bright because I have this feeling that our uniforms are gonna be, like, an obnoxious, like, gross yellow. And I was like, that's probably not true. But, like, that's just like, what I'm envisioning. Then I'm walking to the game and I was like, why was I picturing yellow? And why can't I get yellow out of my head? Sure enough, our jerseys are the most atrocious, gross yellow.

[Corinne]

Oh, my God. And now I want you to have neon pink cleats to just, like, be a highlighter.

[Sabrina]

But I had a psychic moment. I knew the color.

[Corinne]

Yeah, that is weird. I feel like some of your Psychic moments come with clothes.

Yeah. You knew that guy was gonna say something about your shirt.

That's true. Anyway, we're not here to talk about soccer, but we're here to talk about

Yo Ho, the sea pirate life. For me, it's water, it's oceans, it's sea, it's hauntings in one of the scariest places that I feel existed in the world. I am almost more scared of the sky. Ski this. The ski the sea than the idea of just, like, being in open space,

[Sabrina]

because we know more about space than we do about the sea.

[Corinne]

And it feels like space is just like. I picture if I got lost in space, then I'm just floating, and it's like, what are the chances that debris is going to hit me? I'm going to die immediately. It's going to be me just, like, floating and suffocating. The sea can freaking kill you in so many different ways.

[Sabrina]

Yeah.

[Corinne]

It's honestly horrifying.

[Sabrina]

It is.

[Corinne]

And for that, I go knee deep and then I turn around. But for this episode, we go above

Hello, girls. I've been listening to your podcast for about three months, and I want to share my story. My name is Layla, and I'm actually from a small country located in South Europe called Bosnia. It's a really beautiful country with lots of rivers and mountains, and we have one of the oldest forests in the EU called Perugia. I might be saying that wrong. Or Parasucia. Parasuya.

[Corinne]

I don't know.

[Sabrina]

I Peru. P E R U.

[Corinne]

You found six different words.

[Sabrina]

I definitely Mispronounced, like three of them. But this forest is based around a river, Drina and lake Peru. Peru. Peru. God.

[Corinne]

I'm sorry, guys, if you could just hyperlink a pronunciation guide to your emails, if you can.

[Sabrina]

Our editor Jamie, should just like listen to the pronunciation and do a voiceover that was wrong my mouth. But it's Jamie voice.

It's dubbed over. It's like you keep trying to pronounce it, it's like 30 extra seconds long.

[Sabrina]

But we're by a lake by one of the oldest forests in the EU beyond in Bosnia. My grandparents were from a small village near the lake, which I used to visit all the time when I was little. First, you do need to know that the area has a really sad reputation. There was a genocide that happened in 1995, and even before that, that area was a really spooky place. Like, we're talking about miles and miles of forests, tunnels, underground rivers, etc.

[Corinne]

Underground rivers. Ooh, why did that give me a chill?

[Sabrina]

My granny used to tell me all kinds of stories about weird beings and weird stuff that was happening to her and her family and a lot of people who lived in the area. I was really into all of that, but I never experienced anything until one night of 2015. It was my mom's birthday, mid July. We were sitting inside, my mom, my aunt, my grandfather, my grandma, and my two cousins. Since we have two houses divided by only 15 meters of space, we decided to sleep in the second house. We were preparing to leave when we heard two loud bangs. We thought, oh, it's probably just hunters. Basically. We didn't think anything of it. About 10 minutes passed when we decided to get our stuff. It's me, my grandma, and my mom, because we're gonna go sleep in that second house, when all of a sudden we heard a loud blood curdling scream that couldn't have been less than a mile away.

[Corinne]

I feel like every time I see a haunting or hear a haunting that has a blood curdling scream, I've been conditioned by skeptics to be like, it's a mountain lion, It's a bobcat.

[Sabrina]

Oh, that's not where I go at all.

[Corinne]

Well, that's a first thought because I feel like that's what I'm told constantly. And then we don't like you. The true me comes forward. I'm like, oh my God.

[Sabrina]

What the paranormal believer you. Yeah, yeah. Even if it's a mountain lion, that's a horrifying sound to hear.

[Corinne]

You better run. Or actually, I'm not. No. You better make yourself big. That's what you're supposed to do to survive a mountain lion, is that you do not run.

[Sabrina]

Okay?

[Corinne]

Yeah. And if there's two of you, is that a bear, the other person's. It depends on what bear it is. Black bears, you're big, you're challenging, you stand your ground, you fight grizzly bear, you play dead polar bear, you are dead. You are dead.

[Sabrina]

No matter what, you die.

[Corinne]

Sayonara.

[Sabrina]

Why were you in Alaska? Okay, so it's about a mile away, this scream. My grandma just looked at me and my mom and slowly walked to the house without increasing her speed. As we're walking to the house, this thing is still screaming and it is getting closer and louder. I ran inside with my mom and we were just looking at my grandma like, what the fuck, girl? Meanwhile, she went right to the door, locked it, and proceeded to go to her bedroom. My mom was like, what was that? And my grandma just said, we should lie down and don't leave the house until morning.

[Corinne]

So they're still in the house because in my mind they're like on the porch or something.

[Sabrina]

And no, they walked outside to the other house and then locked the door. And grandma's like, just go to sleep. Ignore it.

[Corinne]

I was thinking that they were still outside, like, okay, just lay down to be prey. What?

[Sabrina]

This thing continued to scream and it got closer to our houses. We had to sit there and listen as it passed our houses and went into the forest beneath our houses until sometime later we didn't hear it anymore.

[Corinne]

God, that's so freaky.

[Sabrina]

The next morning I woke up to my mom and grandma talking in the living area. And when I came in, they just stopped talking. I started asking questions and they ignored me. So I got dressed and I was gonna go over to the other house. When I opened the main door, I saw my grandpa with a bucket washing a trail of blood that this thing had left overnight. My mom tried to tell me that it was probably just a dog or something, but based on the stories, I know, I know exactly what that was.

[Corinne]

I mean, it might have been a dog's blood that was getting dragged and trailed and this thing is walking off with, but I don't know, the blood curdling scream for like hours moving through

[Sabrina]

the woods, past their house into the forest. I know exactly what it was. America has flush pedestrians, or I'm going to say it once. Skinwalkers. We have something that has many names, but the name we call it is Drekavac. There are many Names for it. But here's the Google explanation. A drekavac, meaning the screamer or the crier from the Slavic word drikati, is a malevolent, shape shifting creature from South Slavic and Balkan folklore. This was not my only encounter with the thing. There are also stories about gigantic snakes, souls of people that died in the Balkan war, ghosts, fairies, paranormal, encounters with probably demons and all kinds of things. But yeah, I think that's what I experienced and I think that's what my grandma and the people of the town have been experiencing for years. Thank you for reading. I love you guys. Oh, then she said, forgot to mention it didn't sound like a fox or dog or a wolf or anything else that I've ever heard, but it was a mix of a baby crying and something undefined, like feral, but not a wild animal.

[Sabrina]

Well, in the way that grandma responded, being like, let's lock the doors.

[Corinne]

Yeah.

[Sabrina]

Do not leave the house until morning.

And we will not talk about this.

I am curious if the. Sorry, if there are reports that it does have, like, blood following it or if blood is associated with it. Because if not, that makes me think that there was some sort of kill and it was dragging something or someone. Because why else would there be a blood trail? Like, I'm just thinking of our. Of the American version, and there is not a blood trail.

[Sabrina]

There is a blood trail connection. It often mutilates sheep and livestock in the regions and they often find mauled carcasses and a visible gruesome blood trail leading off into the dark.

[Corinne]

Oh, God, that's so messed up.

[Sabrina]

That's like literally with this entity. That is a quality.

Okay. So, yeah, you know, the perk of this experience is that you know exactly

what you experienced and it's right by a lake. And that's why I read it.

And not just any magnet, but one that specifically attracts all that's bizarre and paranormal and spiritual and ghostly, as well as creepy and crawly and shadowy and things that go bump in the night. Just recently, I was once again reminded of this condition, or whatever you want to call it. Another example of drawing in the dark and unseen and then once again being hit smack in the face with the cruel, otherworldly visions and vibrations of the past happened while I was attending a business conference in Kansas City, Missouri. This happened recently. February 2026.

[Sabrina]

So recent.

[Corinne]

Just a couple months ago.

[Sabrina]

Wow.

[Corinne]

I had the opportunity to pop in and make a brief visit to a nearby venue which was offering up a very unique and historically accurate Titanic disaster. Fully immersive exhibit adventure.

[Sabrina]

Wait, does that mean, like, they, like, recreated the crash?

[Corinne]

That's what it sounds like.

[Sabrina]

Huh?

[Corinne]

You're harnessed to something and you experience the drop.

[Sabrina]

Or do you like, get to go on the ship and like, pretend you're fancy and like dine and then you experience the crash?

[Corinne]

Oh, my God. Not only were there countless photos, videos, artifacts, and other paraphernalia from this doomed and cursed steamship available to gaze upon, but there was also a very large room where, thanks to a spectacular special effects and an ominous mid ocean atmosphere, made you feel like you were actually sitting right there, bobbing in a lifeboat alongside the ill fated Titanic.

[Sabrina]

Whoa.

[Corinne]

And then experiencing it firsthand, what it might have felt like in those final moments. Another optional experience for a nominal fee gave one the opportunity to wear a VR or virtual reality headset, allowing you to feel like you were actually able to walk aboard the Titanic just before and during the time of the iceberg hitting and the Titanic sinking. It was truly awesome. Walking along both above and below deck and seeing such things as passengers, living quarters, the passageways, the dining room, the majestic carved oak staircase, for example. It really did make you feel as if you were actually right there. And lastly, you're submerged, as if sitting in a submarine to watch the Titanic's final moments, it plunges and ultimately hits the frigid, barren sea bottom.

[Sabrina]

Damn.

[Corinne]

All of this was historically accurate and completely fascinating to me. And to think of how many poor unfortunate souls perished that night and who were at any given moment either lying warm in their beds, enjoying an exquisite meal in the dining room, or maybe just laughing and enjoying their time aboard and then desperately treading in icy cold water that would take their breath away and rendering their limbs non functional. It's just so sad. There were also some examples of some crude early cork filled buoyancy life vests that were used which were surely saturated with the lingering fright and stress of all of those who had to use them. After having truly enjoyed this immersive experience and just after exiting the exhibit, I had to use the restroom which was located down in the basement. There was nobody else around, so I made my way to the back of this old bathroom where the urinal stood. While standing there, I suddenly caught a glimpse in my peripheral vision of someone quietly slipping through the entrance. Not wanting to look like some kind of creep or be too obvious, I just sort of side eyed this individual as best I could. Something about him just seemed strange, very off. And then I noticed that this rather tall, well dressed gentleman was wearing period clothing. He seemed to be wearing a vintage looking suit, tweed perhaps a long woolen overcoat. And atop his head stood a tall black top hat which at first, like

[Sabrina]

you wouldn't think too much of cause you're at like this Titanic exhibit. Maybe there are people who dress up.

[Corinne]

Exactly. And Gary literally, literally says right away I thought to myself, damn, how the hell did I miss this guy, the period actor. He must have been part of the Titanic exhibit. He looked so authentic. And then as I darted my eyes back and forth, not wanting to be noticed or to have him think that I was just staring at him, he proceeded to pull a gold pocket watch out from under his jacket which was attached to a gold chain. He looked down at it briefly, appeared to be deep in thought, and then in one quick motion placed it right back into his inner jacket pocket. Then he just kind of stared blankly ahead into space before walking straight over to where the toilet stalls were. I finished up, I walked over to the sinks to wash my hand and as the toilet stalls were directly across from the sinks, I snuck a queek, a quick peek, a queek over to where this guy was. And that is when I had a true what the fuck moment. Because the stall doors are all wide open and there Is absolutely nobody in there. So where the hell did this guy go? He didn't flush himself down the toilet and there was not another exit in there. So what just happened? There's absolutely no way that he could have snuck by me and then slipped back out the same way that he'd come in. As I exited the restroom, still scratching my head and trying to make sense of what I just experienced, I once again had to ascend from the bowels of this ancient structure aboard the slow moving escalator. And then right out of the blue, my damn internal paranormal magnet, of course, once again did me dirty. I suddenly felt a horrific shiver down my spine, as if someone had just poured a large glass of ice cold water down my back. The first thing I experienced was hearing the sound of what sounded like water splashing. Kind of like when you're swimming in a pool and treading water.

[Sabrina]

Oh no.

[Corinne]

And I looked around, assuming that there was a speaker somewhere, because this is an exhibit about the Titanic. But there was none. It felt like people were in the throes of violently shivering and gasping for air. I suddenly and clearly heard the faint stutter type whisper of a young man's voice in my ear saying, I'm so cold. Please help me. I'm so cold.

[Sabrina]

I just got chills.

[Corinne]

Whoa, me too. Yeah, so this freaked me out. And I had the hair on my body standing straight up. Once I reached the ground level, that was that. Nothing more. Everything went back to normal. And once having returned to my hotel room, I decided to Google this Union Station, where I just left from to find out a little bit more about it. And oh, what a history did this place have. Firstly, in 1903, the original Union Depot train station suffered a major flood, which resulted in a much larger Union Station being built to replace it. As to whether anyone drowned here, who knows. But the peculiar thing is Union Station was constructed between 1910 and 1914. The Titanic disaster occurred in 1912. Smack dab in the middle. Coincidence. And then in 1933, the Union Station massacre happened here, making one of the most infamous cases in Kansas City history. A convicted mobster by the name of Frank Nash was being escorted by both PoliceMen and the FBI to be placed onto the train which would then take him to prison. But before that could happen, a mob family apparently drove up in their car, started shooting their Thompson submachine guns, and in the process, Frank Nash was killed, along with four FBI and police officers. Geez. So with all of that being said, was the ghostly apparition of the man that I Saw in the bathroom or the water splashing around, or the voice of a young man stuttering that he was freezing to death. All somehow related or associated to the Titanic exhibit or to the 1903 flood or to the 1933 Union Station massacre.

[Sabrina]

Gary, why are you asking us? You know more than we do from Gary.

[Corinne]

Haunted Gary.

[Sabrina]

Well, I'm also just so curious because a lot of these Titanic exhibits do have, like, artifacts or things.

[Corinne]

Right. And he said that there were actual authentic artifacts from the ship.

[Sabrina]

Could there also have been something specifically down in the basement level that, like, wasn't on display for whatever reason? But I don't know, because even the man. The man in the bathroom felt so like he was very much interacting with that space, which makes me think he's more. Again, I'm pulling things out of my butthole because I don't know how ghosts work, but, like, it makes me think he's used to this space and maybe has interacted with it in life.

[Corinne]

Yeah.

[Sabrina]

But I don't know. Whereas the other stuff very much feels like the Titanic.

[Corinne]

Right? It could be. But to your point, it could be two separate hauntings.

[Sabrina]

Yeah.

[Corinne]

Like time period wise, location wise, separate hauntings. Because also the feelings that feel more associated with drowning and water in the Titanic didn't happen in the bathroom.

[Sabrina]

Right.

[Corinne]

It happened on the way back up the escalator.

[Sabrina]

Yeah. Oh, like the way Gary explained it, like, it hit him.

[Corinne]

Yes.

[Sabrina]

Like, all of a sudden, like if

[Corinne]

he cold water down his back.

[Sabrina]

Yeah. He felt it, then heard it.

[Corinne]

The splashing. Wow. The treading of water. The man saying, I'm so cold. Because it also doesn't. The way that he was saying, it feels like, you know, when you're just normally treading water, it wasn't like a frantic. It almost feels like it's towards the end.

[Sabrina]

Yeah.

[Corinne]

Like where the lifeboats are, trying to see who else is left.

[Sabrina]

Also, that water was so cold, it, like, shocked everyone. Right.

[Corinne]

Like, yeah.

I wanted to share an experience that has stayed with me for years. I've changed the names of others in this for privacy, but for some background. I live in Virginia. I have four siblings, two older sisters and two younger brothers. And I am the middle child. And we are no strangers to the paranormal. My mom has always been able to warn or comfort strangers about things that only they would know.

[Corinne]

Wow.

[Sabrina]

My siblings and I have seen ghosts. We've experienced doors shutting on their own. Feeling a hand play with our hair. Feeling someone sit on our bed when no one was there. Seeing a figure go from one room to another, realizing nobody else is home. This is just to name a few. It always scared us, but my mom always told us it was a good ghost and that we shouldn't be afraid. So one summer, four of my cousins came down from Maine to spend the week with us. When they first arrived, everything was normal. But as the week went on, things started happening. And my family and I experienced what we call a four day haunting. Because the energy in this house was incredibly heavy.

[Corinne]

Damn lights. The four day haunting. That could be a movie or a book.

[Sabrina]

This whole story could be.

[Corinne]

Yeah.

[Sabrina]

Lights would flicker on and off. Doors would open and close with no one there. We could hear people talking in rooms that were completely empty. DVDs would be flying across the room, but each day, the activity seemed to pick up. During this time, my older sister had a vision of fire, but she didn't understand what it meant. On the fourth day, a very intense thunderstorm came through and knocked the power out. My mom lit candles and placed them around the living room. And everyone gathered together in that room to wait out the storm. As we were sitting there waiting, things escalated. A door down the hallway kept opening and slamming shut. The lights would flicker on briefly before cutting right back off. We were all so freaked out. Holding on to each other as tightly as we could. Literally storming. All of the lights are off and they're lit. Sitting by candle as these hauntings are just going insane.

[Corinne]

That's so creepy. But also, like, kind of a dream if you're with other people. Yeah, it's still horrifying.

[Sabrina]

This. This story is the one that you would want based on, like, the end of it, because it's not a nightmare. Even though it feels nightmarish, it feels

[Corinne]

like fake in the beginning. Right? Like, this feels like you're the start of, like, a Stephen King. Adapted for television series Adapted for Two

Girls One Ghost Podcast we're holding onto each other as tightly as we could when we start to hear footsteps going from up the stairs, down the hallway. The living room connected directly to the hallway. So these footsteps are getting closer and closer to us. We're all freaking out. And then everything went silent. After a minute or two, we start hearing jazz music coming from down the hallway. Along with the music, we could hear people talking and dishes rattling. It would honestly sound like a party was happening in that room. Keep in. Power is out. Nobody wanted to move, but my sister and I grabbed a candle and went to go check it out. As we got closer, everything suddenly stopped. We looked inside the room, and no one was there. There were no dishes, no signs of anyone having had been there at all. We ran back to the living room and told everyone what we saw or what we didn't see. And that is when something strange happened.

[Corinne]

Even more strange than what's already happening.

[Sabrina]

I began talking, but my voice changed, and I was saying words that didn't feel like they were coming from me. This is what I said. Keep in mind, this is Jasmine. Jasmine says Jasmine is such a pretty little girl. She's so smart. I see a boat, a rock, and a fire. They will think Josh is at work, but he's actually home asleep. Someone will need to save him or he is going to die. I don't want him to end up like me.

[Corinne]

I would calmly place my things down and I would exit the house and say, so sorry about your possession. I'll catch you tomorrow when it's lighted.

[Sabrina]

But the message. I see a boat, a rock, and a fire. They will think Josh is at work, but he's actually home asleep. Someone will need to save him or he is going to die.

[Corinne]

He's home asleep. This is. This is a riddle. But Then a rock, a boat. It makes me think water, but if he's asleep. Okay, keep going. I'm clearly not saving him. I can't figure out the room.

[Sabrina]

My mom immediately grabbed me once it stopped and I came to, I had no memory of saying it. Everyone had to tell me what I said. My voice was back to normal. My family was completely freaked out. But my mom kept saying it had to mean something. All of it had to mean something. My mom and aunt were able to piece it together. So my sister had that dream about the fire, and I was talking about Josh to warn Josh. Josh is my cousin's cousin. He has two sisters. One of his sister passed away in a car accident when she was very young, around 14 years old. The message said, I don't want him to end up like me. My mom and family believes that she was speaking through me to warn them about what was going to happen. Because four years later, here's the event

[Corinne]

that took place four years.

[Sabrina]

Josh's house, which is by a lake with a large rock where his boat sat, caught fire. That day. Josh was not feeling well, so he went home from work and fell asleep. Everyone thought he was at work and that the house was empty. But at that moment, they remembered what my mom had warned them about four years earlier and realized he had to be home because they remembered Josh was saved.

[Corinne]

Oh, I have so many chills.

[Sabrina]

That experience was so intense and emotional. I still get chills every time I think about it. When I found your podcast, I knew I had to share it. Thank you both so much for giving me and other spooky people a safe place to share these experiences. Stay spooky. Much love, Jasmine.

like, picking up energy and. Yeah, to deliver this final message and

I mean, unreal.

It's also just like a cousin's cousin. Like, I don't even. It's incredible that the family is spreading news and information quickly enough that he was able to be saved. Well, I think if something happened to my cousin's cousin, I would learn about it, like, two months later, I guess.

[Sabrina]

But if, like, your cousin, if your cousin's cousin was with you, so your cousin's with you, and here's this whole experience. They're gonna go back and tell Their other cousin that it's gone.

[Corinne]

Oh, so it wasn't. Okay, so it wasn't necessarily, like, her family being like, you gotta make sure he's not in the house. No. So, like, the news had spread enough

[Sabrina]

because Jasmine of the haunting. And so Jasmine's four cousins came down. So it was like eight people in this house. They were all together. And I feel like Josh's sister, who had passed away, knew how powerful Jasmine and her mom were, that they needed them to be like, the Deliverer.

[Corinne]

That's why it had to happen four years earlier because so wild. Dang. Oh, for her to just be, like, possessed in that way.

[Sabrina]

Jasmine's so pretty. What a pretty little girl. I see a boat, a rock, a fire, and Josh is going to die. Save him.

[Corinne]

Literally.

[Sabrina]

Start with a compliment.

[Corinne]

It's a compliment sandwich. Everything is fine here. Oh, she's so sweet. Murderer. Murderer.

[Sabrina]

He's going to die.

[Corinne]

Fire, imminent death.

Wild.

That. Yeah. It does sound like a riddle, doesn't it? Even though it's really just a description.

[Sabrina]

I was like, it's kind of straightforward, but, like, I see a boat, a rock, a fire. Everyone will think he'll. He's at work, but he's actually at home. Someone needs to save him.

[Corinne]

Yeah.

[Sabrina]

I feel like it's pretty straightforward with

[Corinne]

the context of knowing that he lives on a lake with a boat, has a rock. But I was thinking, like, okay, well, I was thinking that there were two parties involved. It's like there's a big crash somewhere of a boat that is on fire that crashed into a rock, almost like Mothman. I was thinking, like, that is the sign that something else is gonna happen and Josh is gonna die when that other event happens. Which I was like, that's so complicated.

[Sabrina]

I know. But a life was saved.

[Corinne]

A life was saved. Josh's life is saved.

[Sabrina]

And that's. So when I was looking up stories for this episode, it reminded me. So I kept thinking about that one story we read. Oh, my gosh. So many years ago, and I'm gonna butcher it. But basically, I think there was, like, two people camping by a lake, and they were on a boat. And they kept getting, like, intuition, like, hits of, like, you have to go left, even though they would typically go right. And then they found, like, a mother and son.

[Corinne]

Yeah. People that needed help who were, like, drowning. Yeah. Yeah. Oh, my God.

[Sabrina]

Ooh. Can't tell you what episode that was. Don't know how to search it in the box because those are the details I remember. Maybe someone else does.

[Corinne]

Oh, But I love all that stuff where it's like, spirit intervention and you're just in the perfect place where you're, like, not questioning things, you're just kind of going with it.

[Sabrina]

Yeah.

[Corinne]

And people are safe to save lives.

[Sabrina]

Yeah.

Okay, Well, I have an email from our listener Justine about a haunted lake. Lovely. Hi, ladies. Love your podcast. I've been into the paranormal since a young age, having my first experience with the ghost when I was in second grade. And then I have been visiting haunted places and requesting to live in haunted dorm rooms in college and just creeping people out ever since. I love that. I'm sure it's not an official request,

[Sabrina]

but it's like, I guess most people would post it, so they would be like, sure, I guess if you want it.

[Corinne]

Haunted rooms here that you could assign me, like, who is this freshman we admitted?

[Sabrina]

I wouldn't want to give it to someone who requested because I'd be like, you're going to do a Ouija boarding?

[Corinne]

What are you going to do here?

[Sabrina]

Yeah.

[Corinne]

I don't think I have any special gifts, but I do feel things and see things all the time.

[Sabrina]

That's.

[Corinne]

I feel like that's a special gift. Yeah. But the story I wanted to share is one that is about a lake that my family has lived on for almost 45 plus years. Lake. Ooh, Sakandaga in upstate New York.

[Sabrina]

Sure.

[Corinne]

Hold on. Let me do a pronunciation thing. Sakandaga. I think I did it right.

[Sabrina]

Nice. Yay.

[Corinne]

Watch it be wrong. I'm celebrating too early. All right. Lake Sacandaga was previously known as the Sacandaga Valley, and it only became a lake in the 1920s when the Sacandaga river was. Good thing I looked it up, because

[Sabrina]

you're saying it a hundred times. Yeah.

[Corinne]

When the river was dammed to protect the area from constant flooding, many people, both living and dead, were displaced by the flood. People had to move their lives, their homes, everything, to higher ground. While they were given ample time to make this move, they did have to dig up some graves and move those graves to higher ground as well. On a clear day on the boat, you can see all the way to the bottom of the lake. You can see railroad tracks, house foundations. It is super eerie. Anyway, here is my story. My grandparents bought their house on the lake in the 70s after stumbling upon the lake. After vacationing in the a bit more populated Lake george area about 20 minutes away, they purchased their house for 10k, which is insane to begin with, but it came with all the furniture. It was a Super quick sale. And they were delighted that they could have a summer home to share with their six kids and the generations to come. They moved in the next week, and the furniture remained there. And up until just a few years ago, it was all the same furniture. Wow. That's a long time to keep.

[Sabrina]

Wow.

[Corinne]

Furniture that you've inherited.

[Sabrina]

I bet, like, the couch had, like, a permanent, like, indent where people sat.

[Corinne]

I've been going up to the lake my entire life. My sister and I loved going up there, especially loved spending time with my grandparents and baking and boating and hiking in the woods, going into the town, shopping for antiques. And my grandpa was a true handyman and loved to repurpose items that he found around the property and create fun, rustic projects around the yard.

[Sabrina]

So cool.

[Corinne]

He stumbled upon a pile of what appeared to be pavers or like cobblestones a quarter of a mile into the woods of the property. He saw this as a great opportunity to create a perfectly manicured pathway leading up the side of the house to the back patio. My sister and I eagerly agreed to help him. Helping grandpa usually ended with a special trip to the local creamy freeze. We were seven and we were 10, so we really weren't that much help. But we would carry one flat rock per trip. And on the second trip, my sister was selecting her paver to carry down the yard when she noticed that there was writing on one of the stones.

[Sabrina]

Oh, that's so cool.

[Corinne]

She couldn't make out what it said and asked my grandpa to take a look. And now thinking back, the pavers were all different sizes, different shapes, different colors of gray and brown. Some had words on them. Some were rectangles, Some were very small ovals. Some are broken. My grandpa could not make out what the stone said either and just told us to lay them down writing side down on the hill. And we sure wanted ice cream. So we continued to do exactly that and then carry the pavers and create this pathway. And now again, to be honest, looking back, I believe that that house and the surrounding woods was a hotbed of activity. However, it wasn't until my sister and I helped my grandpa with that project that I started to notice more and more. I was always scared to sleep alone there. It's so funny to be like, this place was scary. Like there was something off about this place and I was scared to sleep there. But I have the best memories and loved going there, right?

[Sabrina]

You can have both.

[Corinne]

Yeah, you can. I was especially scared to sleep by myself and not accompanied by a sibling or a cousin. My grandparents room was downstairs. And I would dread the night when I would have to go upstairs to my usual room to sleep. Every night I would fall asleep, I'd have terrible dreams which would result in me being up at all hours of the night, just laying in bed, listening to the sounds of the woods. And each night I would hear this sound, which I can still hear in my memory today, which sounded like someone hammering a chain. And the timing was always the exact same time.

[Sabrina]

Interesting.

[Corinne]

Each morning I would wake up, I would look for some sort of explanation outside, anything like a branch on a pipe, something hitting a swing, something that could make that noise. But I could never find any rational explanation.

[Sabrina]

Scrooge, is that you?

[Corinne]

My sister and my grandparents never heard the sound either. It was only me in the middle of the night hearing this chain, having these nightmares. And I'd have nightmares of my sister drowning in the lake and then running home and then the house being on fire.

[Sabrina]

Oh my gosh.

[Corinne]

So I spent many nights upstate New York, sleepless. And this went on for years. A few years later, one summer Friday morning, a car pulled into our driveway. It's not the type of place where someone's just going to make a U turn in our driveway. So they pulled up, got out, started to walk towards us. It was two older men and a girl around 10 or 11. They were the house's previous residents. They moved out suddenly after tragedy had struck the family and they were forced to sell the house quickly.

[Sabrina]

Was there a fire?

[Corinne]

We welcomed them into the house and sat and talked to them for a bit and they told us the history of the rocks on the fireplace. And they were so happy to see that a family like ours had moved in and was enjoying the house as much as they did. My grandpa then took them to the backyard to show them everything we had changed, pointed out the outhouse that was still standing, and of course was happy to show them his new crafty walkway that he'd added a few years back that we helped with. My gosh. One of the men was speechless. He said, where did you get these stones? My grandpa explained that he'd found them in the backwoods. This man knew exactly where they were from. He had come across them years prior. And that is when he told us they were gravestones.

[Sabrina]

Are you serious?

[Corinne]

He left them there, ran away and never looked back. He assumed that they were moved there before the flood, that no one had created another cemetery for the mystery placed graves. And after learning this information, my grandpa decided not to move the stones. And yeah, paranormal activity Certainly continued. I could even see figures walking in the woods. And the doors would open and slam, and the house would.

[Sabrina]

Their walkway was literally gravestones, gravestones.

[Corinne]

They would walk on gravestones on their way up to their door. Present day, the house was redone. The stones were returned to the woods. Activity has finally stopped. Oh, wow. Maybe I just don't notice it anymore. Well, that's the story of the creepy lake. I hope you enjoyed it. See you on the other side, Justine.

Not where you thought it was gonna go.

Not at all. Cause one of the dreams that she was having, was it related to the family and how they had to leave in a tragedy? I don't know. But the tombstones, I mean, that's.

[Corinne]

Or it could have been, like, anyone. Who.

[Sabrina]

Who died?

[Corinne]

Who died there? Yeah, that there was, like, a fire and a drowning because there's so many different tombstones, which also just makes me

[Sabrina]

sad for all the spirits that they're just stuck in their tragedies.

[Corinne]

That's true. Or maybe this was, like, their attempt at being like, hey, do some investigating. Can you realize you're walking on my grave every day?

[Sabrina]

Or that you're going to solve my murder? Solve my murder.

[Corinne]

Or just. Yeah. Bring some awareness to the little stepping stone.

[Sabrina]

I actually kind of love that that was used as, like a. Or just like that they were repurposed. Maybe not as a walkway, but like.

[Corinne]

But in a way, it's, like, representing being brought home. Like a pathway home.

[Sabrina]

Oh, that's. Oh, that is sweet. But I guess they didn't love it because they were haunting them like crazy.

[Corinne]

And then once the pavers were. Or I keep calling the pavers. Once the gravestones were returned to the

woods, the activity stopped. Interesting. I think if I were a ghost attached to one of those headstones, I would make my headstone almost be like a whoopee cushion. So anytime, like, someone stepped on it. Yeah. Because I'm a teenage boy, I have one more story to end this episode on. Okay, this is from our listener Heather and I was looking for a story about like haunted cruise ship because I Knew that would be your horror. But I found from Heather. I work on a haunted steamboat.

Ooh.

Very cool. I feel like steamboats are kind of rare.

[Sabrina]

No. And it's like a super historic. It's like, got an awesome story.

[Corinne]

Okay.

[Sabrina]

Hi, ghost. This is. Let me just tell you that your podcast changed my life. I found you in 2023 after you were on Celebrity Memoir Book Club, which they rebranded to Good Noticings Podcast. I think. I think that's their new name. The rebrand. Ashley and Claire. But I spent the rest of the summer binging your archives. Okay. I'm gonna start by saying I have the best job ever. I work on a haunted steamboat. It is called the Belle of Louisville, and it's located in Louisville, Kentucky, home of the Kentucky Derby and all the bourbon, the Bell.

[Corinne]

A hell of a lot of hauntings.

[Sabrina]

So many hauntings. The Belle was actually built in 1914, and she started out as the Idyllwild. That was what she was named in the 1940s. She had a captain named Ben Winters who was known for having some slightly shady friends. And these friends were doing illegal gambling on the boat one night, which resulted in the police raiding the boat. The shock of this gave Ben a heart attack, which he later died from. And it was his dying wish to name the boat the Avalon. It is considered bad luck by some to rename a boat, but considering we're the oldest steamboat of our kind in the world, things are going okay for us. Knock on wood. Ben Winters is rumored to haunt the boat, but that's not even the story. The story that I ran here to tell you. Okay, but more context. Our boat was the Avalon until 1962, and then the city of Louisville bought her and eventually restored her to her adorable turn of the century greatness. And this is when she got her third name change to the Belle of Louisville. And you will see her all over our city. Murals, logos, and in random memorabilia and antique shops.

[Corinne]

I feel like normally I don't love a name change when it has to do with something that's like, super historic. But I love this name.

[Sabrina]

Yeah.

[Corinne]

The Belle of Louisville because it comes with so much adoration. Yes.

[Sabrina]

Every year we have a big steamboat race that's a part of the Kentucky Derby Festival.

[Corinne]

How fun.

[Sabrina]

We're kind of tick tock and Instagram famous for an instrument we have on our boat called the Steam. It's this really loud organ type of instrument that steamboats would have back in the day in order to announce their presence before the Internet existed. Wait, what they would start to play.

[Corinne]

They play the organ, basically.

[Sabrina]

Yeah. The Calio.

[Corinne]

Like Phantom of the Opera.

[Sabrina]

Yeah. Which is very Pirates of the Caribbean on David Joni. David. Davy Jones's boat. Okay. So they would start playing when they got close to the destination, and you could hear it for, like, 10 miles or so. People in these river towns would flock to the shore to watch the steamboat coming in when they hear it from far away. So I love this. The beauty and nostalgia of it. So now we play musical requests and some pop music on the calliope. And I'm probably saying that wrong. And people love it. They also love our player, who is an actual angel named Martha. So when the boat was leaving the dock today, I ran into one of our mates, and he asked me if Martha had told me what happened to her over the weekend. And I had just spoken to Martha and she hadn't mentioned it. So Martha and I were texting back and forth to coordinate some new songs for her to play. And later that afternoon, she mentioned that someone told her she had to tell me the story. So here it is.

[Corinne]

I'm dying to know her set list, though, because I'm like, what do they play? They play pop music, but, like, is it pop culture?

[Sabrina]

I'm sure we could look it up

[Corinne]

from, like, the 70s and 80s. Or is she playing Pink Pony Club?

[Sabrina]

I bet we're gonna. And Pink Pony Club, Belle of Louisville. They play modern and pop hits. They play golden by, K Pop, Demon Hunters, Here Comes the Sun by the Beatles. Here. This is the K Pop. That's so cool.

[Corinne]

I love it. Yeah. When you get to, like, the upbeat part.

[Sabrina]

Yeah.

[Corinne]

I'm like, okay, that. That's, like, fun. But the beginning of it, I was like, oh, my God. This is, like, the opening to, like, a, like, campy 70s horror movie.

[Sabrina]

Horror movie on the steamboat.

[Corinne]

Yeah.

[Sabrina]

I love it. Okay, so Martha tells me the story. It was right before a cruise, and Martha was playing a selection of songs like she usually does. She'll come on board, play a few numbers, and then head home. She was on her way downstairs to kick off a peaceful evening and cool off from being on top of the deck of a steamboat in Kentucky humidity when she ran into one of our engineers. Our engineers are in charge of checking the steam pressure and running the engines during a cruise, as well as maintaining the engines, which date back to the 1890s. This was, like, way. Yeah. The bell wasn't even built in 1914, so these engines are older than the bell itself. When it's safe to come down and check things out. People are welcome to come down and explore and chit chat with the engineers. However, when we're taking off, turning, and docking, we use a yellow rope to signal to people that the engineers are busy and they can't go down to the engine room yet. So the engineer asked Martha if she put the yellow rope up on her way out so that they could do some work work. So she went to the top of the staircase to the engine room to do so. At the top of the staircase is a closet, and as Martha got closer to the closet, she heard someone kicking and pounding on the inside of the door of the closet, screaming, help me out. I'm stuck. Screaming, Martha ran to go get one of our engineers to unlock the closet because they have the key. They went back, got the key, opened the door, and found nothing.

[Corinne]

What?

[Sabrina]

This is actually a linen closet full of shelves that a person cannot fit into. I have heard so many stories that our engine room is home to one angry ghost on the bell. It's the ghost of a deckhand who we call floyd. According to legend, before a moonlight cruise many decades ago, Captain winters sent floyd down to the engine room, and he was somewhere where he wasn't supposed to be. So when the boat was ordered to go full steam ahead. Yes, that's where the saying comes from. Floyd was crushed.

[Corinne]

Oh, no.

[Sabrina]

In the paddle wheel.

[Corinne]

I hate that.

[Sabrina]

Exactly one deck below where the closet that Martha heard. The trapped entity. I'm curious if it was like a male voice saying, I'm stuck because he literally was crushed.

[Corinne]

Oh.

[Sabrina]

I went on the boat right after getting Martha's text, and let me tell you, I got chills and goosebump, and the hairs on my arms went standing straight up. This is only the latest of a long list of ghost stories, and the ghost I feel the most connection to is Gladys, A beautiful young woman who sadly disappeared Right off the side of the boat in the 1930s. 30s. And no one knew the name of the warm female spirit who haunted our ballroom. But I was able to piece Gladys's story together through old newspaper reports. You're a historian, too.

[Corinne]

So cool.

[Sabrina]
