Very spooky. Hello, all phantoms. It's the Lorax. Specifically, Ashby Simam and. And Sally Fingers.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
Hello, fellas. Would you like to come inside? Hey, what's up, everyone?
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
This is two girls, one ghost.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
Two girls, one ghost. Dangerous. And GhostTube just said dangerous.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
Yeah, we're dangerous.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
We are playing a dangerous game today. It's called talking about something really, really terrifying in costume.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
I can't even focus because I just so regret not doing exactly what I should have done in the moment, which was when you said, would you like to come inside? I missed my opportunity to say your mom.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
Oh, man.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
Ashby would be so we can't be.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
Ashby Disappointed in you.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
I know. We decided to dress up as pop cult icons.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
Ashby and Salad Fingers. Ashby has the Lorax.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
It's a double. It's a double pop culture reference. And I'm finally understanding when you posted on your social media weeks ago and said, does anyone have any guesses for my costume or, like, why you needed to buy teeth? I understand. Yeah, let's give a little close up. Ooh, creepy, creepy.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
So, hi, everyone. This is a really spooky episode where we invited a haunted object into the room with us. And I chose this one because when we did the episode where we introduced all the haunted objects that we're including in this month of October, I felt like this had a very grandmotherly, protective, angel, no demons vibe. So either it will protect us or it will be like, you sinful bitches.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
Right? Like, why the fuck did you bring me out for this?
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
Yeah. So we're gonna set intentions real quick. We will be discussing a very demonic, very scary place that I've been putting off for years. And we do not invite anything in. We're purely discussing for educational purposes because we are smart, intelligent women with one brain cell shared between the two of us.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
You only need one.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
And we do not invite any negative energy into our lives. We are surrounded by love, by light, by positivity, and by Ashby.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
Praise Ashby.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
Praise Ashby. Should you entity in the little cat figurine that our listener so kindly gifted us would like to communicate with us, you may do so by communicating through Ghost Tube. You can speak words through it, and if you.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
If things get real heated, maybe we'll bring out some other equipment. We'll see.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
See. We'll see. We'll see what happens.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
Yeah.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
What takes over you and what takes over us? Well, today I am going to be covering and bear with me as I try to read through this mask. Luckily, this is one of those topics that just feels like I'll be able to reiterate it so easily because it's.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
In your mind, stained forever. I also love your one human pinky finger coming through.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
Shit.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
Oh, sorry. Hide it. It's so dainty and beautiful compared to.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
My long salad fingers.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
We want to see the pinky. Just the tip. Just to see how it feels.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
Honestly, you are channeling Ashby so well. All you have to do is the timing.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
I have to. I have to commit to the bit. I might not do the accent because I'm not very good at it.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
You were really good at it.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
Oh, thanks.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
Give yourself some credit. This is a very scary episode, and it is October. And when we do cover some of these darker topics, they do tend to open our listeners up. So perhaps while listening to this set intentions, Ground yourself, Light a candle, Air out the room. Don't drive. While listening but do what you want. This is going to be a two parter. And today I am finally covering a place that I have long awaited. Unavoided. Out of fear, out of sheer volume. This is the Hinsdale House, also known as the Dandy House, One of the most, if not the most haunted houses in New York. They were fortunate to get out.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
My heart just skipped a beat for a second.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
Stupid. Okay, you know what? I also am wondering if this is the one who was rude to you.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
The cat doesn't like me.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
Oh, and also. Okay, thank you. Thank you for calling us stupid because I meant to say so many other things. I was re watching that Haunted with episode and I had a lot of epiphanies because I was saying over the years, I don't think I have had any experiences with this.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
Yeah.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
But I think I have. There were a couple of times where on Campfire Stories over the summer while you were gone, While you were gone, while you were on maternity leave, I.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
Disappeared from the ether that I would.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
Put ghost tube on. And a lot of the words that were coming through were very similar to when we featured the cat figurine. And I think that one of the spirits that I thought was haunting the house was actually in this. So it might even have become a vessel for a different spirit.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
Right. Because the person who gave it to us when we were on tour a few years ago, she was like, it's supposed to be haunted, but she hadn't experienced anything.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
She thought it was haunted by a cat.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
Right.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
But maybe it's become a vessel for someone else. Something else.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
My gosh. And here we were at the top saying how nice and kind and protective you would be. Why is she here? It was you.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
Oh, my gosh.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
Well, your lucky day, Miss Kitty Cat. I'm barely going to be talking because Sabrina is covering the Hinsdale House, but.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
Be nice to Corinne, little kitty cat. I like the way the blood drips down. Okay. From the outside, this home, the Hinsdale House, looks unremarkable. Just a lonely farmhouse. It's wood weathered by time and storms. But this house is so much more. Do not be deceived. Do not be naive. The Hinsdale house is steeped in blood, steeped in tragedy, and the land itself may even be cursed. It is a story centuries long, one with endless chapters of death, of occult practices, of failed exorcisms, and countless terrifying encounters with the paranormal. So to start the episode, I'm gonna give a shout out to two books that I read as, like, my main Sources for this episode or the two episodes. The first one is Echoes of a Haunting, written by Clara M. Miller, previously named Clara Dandy, the owner, the woman who lived through.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
Oh, my gosh. I love this. Similar to when we looked at the Conjuring House and we were trying to do all the research on that house. I love when the people who lived it get to be involved in the retellings of it and sharing their experiences and owning kind of the trauma that happened to them.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
No, I agree. And I think the Conjuring House is a very good thing to keep in mind with this episode.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
I can't laugh and smile, but your costume is just killing me. It's so good.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
Okay. And then the second book I read is called Hinsdale House An American Haunting, written by Daniel Claese Klaus Clays, who is the current owner of the Hinsdale house.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
Also, I just have to say, I know you don't want anything to be seen beneath your holes, but your mouth is actually so scary underneath it because it. You have black paint on, but there's a little bit of your actual mouth that can be seen. Yeah. Oh. Oh, I don't like that.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
What did it say? Turn it on. Oh, you're right. I didn't turn it on.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
Shit.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
Oh, my gosh.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
This whole time.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
Well, we'll have picked up the audio hopefully.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
Yeah.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
Wow. Thank you.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
Good call. Good call. But, like, the light is catching your mouth and, like, glistening just so that it's really scary. And it almost like there's moments where I'm like, is that your tongue? And is your tongue black and it scares me.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
Yeah, that's what I wanted.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
Yeah. Do the tongue thing to the camera, though. I like dance, monkey, dance.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
It is creepy, Mr.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
Fingers.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
Okay, so I think these are two pretty reliable sources for this episode and next episode. And so let's get into it.
Spirit/Entity Voice
Finish. I can hear you.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
You can hear us. Good. We can hear you. Now, the Hinsdale house is tucked away at the very end of an isolated road at 3830 McMahon. McMahon. I don't know. McMahan McKour. Mom Road in Hinsdale, New York, just 65 miles south of Buffalo. This is a very small rural town in the Allegheny Plateau region of. Can you guess where this house is?
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
Well, I already know, so I don't want to guess.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
Appalachia. It's in freaking Appalachia. Despite what we know about Appalachia and despite what we can assume awaits us in this episode, this house resides in the beautiful new York countryside. Think winding roads, rolling hills, enchanting bird songs, fireflies illuminating the night skies. Think of the soft morning dew, a hot cup of coffee on the porch, watching the fog dance between the towering oak trees. In theory, this land, this home, is beautiful, coated with nature's calm embrace. But let's be real. Peace and calm are not two words I'm going to use to describe this house or what you will feel during this episode. In fact, I'm going to quote Daniel Claes. He said the house's message can be as terrifying as this. Maybe I am not afraid to kill you. I'm not afraid to add your name to the list of people who haunt this house.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
The fuck? What a freaking threat that makes this worse. I mean, I know bits and pieces of the Hinsdale house, but I feel like this just makes everything more ominous. It's like we're opening with a threat. Yes.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
I also did ask our friends Greg and Dana Newkirk what they think about the house, and I will share their opinion with you in next episode. But I also noticed that Daniel, in his book, every time he talks about the house, he capitalizes the letter H because it is not an object. It is a place that is very.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
Very much alive, its own entity.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
So what the heck caused this home to become a living, breathing, terrifying entity? Is it the home? Is it the people who lived within it? Or does it go back even further? So next episode we'll talk about, like, the history of the land and stuff, but this episode we'll talk about the house and when the Dandy family lived there. So the Hinsdale house was built in the mid-1800s, and sources vary, but sometime between 1853 and 1855, it was built as a modest, practical, two story wooden farmhouse, meant to be a place for prosperity, a place to build a family, to build a legacy. And unfortunately, records are not clear as to who built the home, but multiple farming families lived in the house. Like it transferred through families. But many people didn't stay for long. Some had to leave due to financial hardship, others due to illness or unexplained misfortune. It is said that many owners or tenants of the home fell victim to illnesses, tuberculosis, pneumonia, random farming accidents, and now all of these things are common during the time, so it doesn't raise immediate red flags. But it is interesting that this house, from its conception of it being built as a farmhouse, is home to a lot of death, tragedy and misfortune. I wrote most of us played Oregon Trail, so we know we Know you died from everything.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
Dysentery, mostly. Dysentery, mostly.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
There is one tragic story that has been told through oral history, but again, isn't recorded in documents. But it is the story of a man who lived in the Hinsdale farmhouse sometime in the early to mid 20th century, who is said to have died by suicide inside the home. So it really does seem as if illness and misfortune has clung to these walls of the Hinsdale house. And according to locals, families frequently sold or altogether had to abandon the home. So by 1970, when the Dandy family moved in, this home had already garnered a reputation of being unlucky, of being cursed. And unfortunately, or unluckily, the Dandy family was very unaware of this reputation. Which brings us to the family that brought the haunting of the Hinsdale house to the public eye. Not because it was the first haunting, but because of the many failed attempts at exercising the paranormal from this house.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
It's just like one of those places.
Spirit/Entity Voice
Where it's like, I want you to go.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
It feels like it wins immediately as you start talking.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
Okay, well, I'm not because I live.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
Here, so it's so interesting. I'm like, who is this?
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
Why don't they like me?
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
I don't know, but at least now we know who it is.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
I know I actually don't really care that you don't like me, but I feel sorry for you because you have to sit through this.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
I feel sorry for you because Corinna's a delight if you give her a chance. Okay, so our story now begins with Clara Miller, who married Phil Dandy in July of 1955. And they spent much of their early married years together living in Buffalo, New York. In 1956, they gave birth to their first child, a son named Mike. Beth was then born in 1957. Laura was born in 1960, and Mary was born in 1962. They were busy. That's why. Four kids in five years.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
How much is it going to be? So many?
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
It's more than that. Like, eight years, but still it's growing.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
I'm so bad at the accent. I need my microphone.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
I actually am so glad that this is who you chose to be, because I feel like this is comedic relief throughout the episode, sadly. And this is a content warning for loss of child. They had a fifth child, a daughter named Christina Michelle, who was born in 1963, but, sadly, only lived a couple of days.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
Oh, that's really tough.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
So they were the average American family, busy with work and kids. And of course, Clara has written her book with hindsight, so she sees things a bit differently now. But at the time, Clara felt like her and her husband Phil were drifting apart. And in 1967, she wanted to reconnect with him. They were both really busy with him, and so she suggested that they go on a vacation in the countryside and leave Buffalo for a long weekend or a week and just go spend some time in nature.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
In the trees.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
In the trees. And this trip is what sparked everything, the chain of events that we're about to lay out. Although Clara herself is like, maybe I was always destined to be in this house. Oh, she was summoned, and it didn't matter what happened. She would have ended up there anyway.
Spirit/Entity Voice
It's difficult.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
It is difficult to talk in this mask. You're right. So this vacation, they got out of the bustling city and they went into Allegheny State Park. It was filled with bliss. They felt rejuvenated, and even their children seemed to thrive in this more relaxed atmosphere. And then Clara was like, well, maybe we should start to look at moving out of the city and making this nature escape more permanent. So the next fall, in 1968, the Dandy family began to search for their own countryside cabin. But at first, this cabin was just going to be a place to escape to in the weekend. So this is not the Hinsdale house. This is a small step towards living in the country full time. A small step towards moving into and finding the Hinsdale house. So in 1968, the Dandies found a cabin near Cuba, New York, and they would drive up nearly every weekend to explore. They would go on hikes, take in the sights, and take in the fresh country air. So they find this, like, weekend cabin that they go to. And this is in 1968. But Phil is finding it harder and harder to join them. He keeps getting stuck in the city, working nonstop. And it seemed like these weekend escapes were no longer enough, and the family was really aching to live in the countryside full time. Or perhaps they were being called there by something deeper or darker, something predestined.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
I don't like that.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
So playing into this question of destiny, the same woman, Donna, who had actually sold the family the cabin in Cuba, New York, reached out to Clara, and she's like, you know what? I actually have a farmhouse for sale in the same area. And I think that this house is just right for your family.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
The destiny again. It's like they're being drawn there and everything is aligning to pull them in.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
That farmhouse was the hinsdale House. Clara Dandy, now who goes by Clara Miller, wrote in her book the that day, the day Donna took us to see the place, we were hooked up. Later, that tendency to be drawn to, absorbed in, and sometimes obsessed with the house became more apparent. But on this day, it really gave us hope for a brighter future. Little did we know, when they went to look at the house, there was nothing sinister about that tall pine tree at the beginning of the drive. There was nothing off putting about the spring house, and there was nothing threatening about the large pond at the side of the house. Left to the dandies, who were leaving the city life behind them, this home and the deafening silence was heavenly.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
I feel like this is kind of what we talk about sometimes, where it's like, oh, it wouldn't be so peaceful to just, like, live in the middle of nowhere. Yeah.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
If it wasn't the Hinsdale house or actually any of the surrounding area, really. So then in the early 1970s, the Dandy family bought and moved into the Hinsdale house. But at first, they slowly moved items up so they weren't full time. They basically, like, every weekend they would do these mini moving trips where they would load up the car, drive a whole hall up. What does it say? I don't know.
Spirit/Entity Voice
Why am I here?
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
Why am I here?
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
Well, you're here to. Are you okay? Do you get lightheaded?
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
Yeah, a little bit. Sorry, I, like, forgot where I was for a second. I'm here.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
Maybe this is the one who isn't touching you.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
It's also a distract. Like having a lot of fibers enter your mouth is also.
Jonathan Van Ness
It's a little.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
A little distracting.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
Yeah. I will say, recording in costume isn't always practical. No, but it's fun.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
It seems so joyous until we have to sit here for 90 minutes.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
But we hope you enjoy it.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
Everything's for you and your mom. Okay.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
So they do these, like, mini moving trips. And they drove a 1970s station wagon, a car that had never given them any trouble. But on one of their drives to the Hinsdale house, their car suddenly and inexplicably overheated and boiled over.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
Jesus.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
From that day on, the car's radiator plagued them with issues. And no matter what they did, no matter how many times they went to go get it checked up on, no matter what, this car would always act up. And this is something that is a very common thread with the Hinsdale house. So many people move quickly, have issues with their cars.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
Interesting. It's one of those Things that, like, sometimes when poltergeist and demonic activity is so intense, I feel like it does extend to cars. Whether it's either trying to get people to crash or the cars not work and, like, keep them there, or just follow them to work and be like, you're never safe. Oh, you're trying to go on a camping trip to escape. Me, I'm here, too.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
I think that's what it is. Because there are certain times where I'm like, oh, is it trying to prevent them from going there? And maybe at first it was, but then whatever entity that was couldn't help anymore because it did some pretty horrendous, terrifying, harmful things to cars. Again, so much can be said in hindsight. Unfortunately, they didn't have that until it was too late. So finally, on July of 1970, the Dandy family fully moves into the Hinsdale house. It's Phil, 39, Clara, 37. Their oldest son Mike, who's 17, Glad, Beth, 16, Laura, 12, Mary, 11. And all of their pets. And they have, like, a whole menagerie of pets. They have two dogs, a cat, a raccoon named Princess.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
Oh, my God, I love that. Who.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
Who literally was litter box trained.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
Oh, my gosh.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
They had four guinea pigs, two parakeets, two finches, and a woodchuck named Nipper.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
Wow. They were really living life.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
They loved.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
It's like a Disney Princess movie, right? Like, and the fact there's no white.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
They were in Buffalo with all those pets. No duh. They needed to be in the countryside, as with many stories like this. And again, reminds me a lot of the conjuring. The unusual activity began right away. So remember, they spent the whole summer doing these, like, mini moving trips, Right? So they had presumably gone up the weekend before this. They move up July 1970, and this is their full move. When they get to the house that day, the house is filled with bees to the point where you can't even see into the window because they are, like, covered in live bees watching you. Oh, like, the windows are black with bees. Geez. So all of a sudden, it's infested with bees.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
And that's also. I'm just thinking logistically, like, that that's a hard one. Because of the process for bee removal. It's like bats. Like, when you have a bat in your house, it doesn't mean that you can get rid of it all the time, Right?
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
So they hired an exterminator, and eventually they're able to actually move in. But now this is, like, coupled with like, literally shoveling thousands of dead bee carcasses out of their home. The Dandy family begins to move in. They begin to settle into their house. And at first, the biggest issues seem to be just from buying an old house. Truly. Like, the furnace was literally a hide.
Spirit/Entity Voice
Now was a hole.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
Hide now to hide? Yeah.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
From what?
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
Come and find me if there's anything inside here. Mom, it's not welcome here.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
There's no negativity allowed here. We are surrounded by love and light and Ashby jokes. Okay. The furnace was literally a hole in the living room floor that you had to drop a lit match into.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
Wait, I kind of love that.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
But how dangerous is that?
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
It's so dangerous, but it feels so old school. You know, like when people pop their own corn. Right.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
But, like, you just have to, like, hope it lights and no one falls in there.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
But if something goes wrong and you, like, try to lean in and grab it, and you're just lit a blaze.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
Exactly. Terrifying. But there were some other less natural things that they had to deal with, like the fact that their dogs kept bringing home bones. Huge, long bones. And at first, Clara thought they were animal bones. They lived in the woods now.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
Right.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
So, like, they're like, it's probably deer bones. And she kept disposing of them and was pretty grossed out.
Spirit/Entity Voice
Pray.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
Yes, we should pray.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
Also, I think you're right about this figurine, because I'm freezing cold.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
Really?
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
Yeah. I'm, like, about to shiver. I don't know. And normally I'm hot because we're, like, under lights and stuff here.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
That's wild.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
Yeah. Okay, girlfriend, you're going home with Sabrina later for sure.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
But you're not allowed to harm Corinne.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
I think we're just sitting together watching you.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
Okay, cool.
Spirit/Entity Voice
Do you need it?
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
Do you need. What do I need? Corinne? Yes. And she's a her, not an it.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
Well, I don't know what I am. I'm the Lorax. I speak for the trees.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
Well, coming from the trees are human bones brought in by the dogs. Well, we'll learn later that those were not animal bones. And then there were the ghosts. So the Dandies met the neighbors who had kids of some.
Spirit/Entity Voice
Why are you asking?
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
And the neighbors told them that there was a ghost that walked down the road. And now the Dandies thought that all the neighbors were joking until the eldest Dandy kid, Mike, saw the ghost himself. After this encounter, Clara became curious. And the neighbor's daughter, Pat, was terrified of this ghost, claiming it was a shadow man that was darker than Dark. So Clara looks it up, looks up what this term is shadow man. And all references keep connecting it to Satan. But of course, she doesn't think much of it because this is the first time she's dealt with anything paranormal. It's also outside, down the road, so it's not going to bother them. Right. But more and more alarming incidents started to begin. Like the day that Beth and the neighbor Pat came running into the house, hysterical because they told Clara that the man was watching them from the hill.
Spirit/Entity Voice
The doll.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
What about the doll? Actually, there is a doll story here.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
Oh.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
It's coming up later and it's a pretty scary story. But again, Claire doesn't think much about it. There's other pressing stuff. And so for the first couple of months, Claire is commuting 150 miles a day. She's driving to Buffalo in the city for work, and then coming back at night. And then through, like, you know, various reasons, she ends up quitting her job and becoming a stay at home mom in November of 1970. And that first winter is absolute hell. Not just out of the paranormal sort, but out of the freezing cold winter sort. From February until April, their water lines were frozen. They got snowed into the point that even the snowplow got stuck.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
Ooh.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
And they also had to, like, they could only take baths once a week. It was like old timey. Yeah, because they couldn't get hot water.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
Like, their house is old timey. And then everything about their experience is becoming old timey.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
Exactly. And then one night during this winter icy storm, Clara is startled to see an object in the sky. This object is moving at high speed but entirely silent. So she calls out to the kids, who all run and join her. All five of them watch a round large craft with lighted windows hover above them for a few minutes before suddenly veering and disappearing to the north. It remind you of the conjuring house?
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
Yeah.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
This is the first of many UFO encounters. Although Clara even, like in her book now, many years later, she refuses to call them UFOs. She also refuses to call the house haunted because she doesn't really know what to call them. The kids see similar crafts hovering over the house or in the nearby sky for the years that follow. And one night in the summer of 1971, when Phil is out of town, Clara woke up to a sound. When she opened her eyes, she was shocked to see the entire room suddenly get flooded by a fluorescent light. Her son Michael yells from downstairs from his bedroom, mom, do you see this? The whole house is lit up. And he says, I think it's right outside my window.
Spirit/Entity Voice
There it is.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
It is outside the window.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
It is. A few days later, Claire finds that there's a report in the paper of a flying saucer seen in the area that same night that Mike and her woke up to the fluorescent light.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
It's so bizarre. It makes me wonder so much about, like, same with the conjuring house. Like the connection between aliens, UFOs and these, like, really, really intense hauntings.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
Yeah, I don't know. Is it Leylines? Are aliens ghosts? We don't know. Or are ghosts aliens? But. So now I'm going to list off some really horrifying things that happened to the family and on their own. Many of these instances are easy to write off, but altogether it paints a much darker image, One that implies something was trying to harm the family, that something didn't want them there or was punishing them for being there. And Clara recalls that in the four years that they lived there, they had an insane number of injuries, car accidents, and incidents that are beyond the normal. Like, oh, kids getting hurt so ground. Almost immediately upon moving in, Mary falls off her bike and had to get multiple stitches. Later, Laura fell off her bike and got staph infection in her foot. Mike spilled boiling water on himself, burning his stomach. Clara broke her finger while changing a window. Mike truly cut down to a tendon in his hand while trying to put flowers in a vase.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
Oh, my God.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
Phil cut his thumb to the bone while trying to push the car out of the snow. Beth broke her arm in the gym. Mike broke his toe playing basketball. Laura broke her foot working out. Clara's mother and father had three car accidents while driving home after leaving the Dandy's Hinsdale house, Clara got in a car accident in 1971. Mike nearly died in a car accident. On October 21, 1973, five weeks after Mike nearly dies, Beth's boyfriend has a car accident and nearly dies. In 1974, the Dandy family had four car accidents in the span of two weeks. And all of them are freak accidents, like the wheel suddenly jamming or other cars out of nowhere coming and veering them off the road. Additionally, very tragically, the family pets kept dying in freak accidents. And Clara recalled that prior to moving the Hinsdale house, their pets almost always only died of old age. But since moving into the house in 1970, they lost countless pets.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
This is so horrific. Like everyone's being seriously injured and then the animals are dying.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
Three pets died within a two week span. All of them had been living in Mary's bedroom.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
Oh, my God.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
So Mary's room. Keep this in mind. Three pets died within two weeks. They all had been living in Mary's house.
Spirit/Entity Voice
Are you recording?
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
We are recording.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
We are. I am like, I'm getting. It's so weird. Last time, we recorded literally nothing. And we've recorded all of our Halloween encounters between here.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
Yeah.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
My head is pounding. My eyes hurt.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
I don't know what.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
My mouth is dry now. Like, I've been afflicted.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
If you're the listener who gave us this haunted object, what did you give us?
Jonathan Van Ness
Ow.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
I can't believe it didn't. Well, maybe it did hurt me dry.
Spirit/Entity Voice
It makes no sense.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
It makes sense.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
It does make no sense.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
I'm lovable.
Spirit/Entity Voice
Mary, we can't stay.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
You don't have to stay. We're gonna go home after this. Okay. So when the vet, like, on the third pet who dies in from Mary's room, the vet is like, maybe you should keep your pets out of Mary's room. Not long after that did the dandies realize that no one should be in Mary's room.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
Oh, my gosh.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
At all. So from 1970 to 1974, the family had countless accidents. And over these four years, the family went from pretty happy to completely financially drained. And over the four years, everything got worse and worse. Looking back, Clara sees that something didn't last being in that house. But it was easy at the time to write things off or to try to rationalize them. And despite the horrors I'm about to share with you, apparently the time in the house wasn't bad. It was an otherwise very happy place, filled with picnics, hosting family, swimming in the pond, gardening, and so much more than just the paranormal encounters. And things started out slow. An odd encounter here or there, timeless. But by 1973, things really took a turn.
Spirit/Entity Voice
I sell.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
Okay, so we're going to start with some of the smaller things, and then we're going to build up to 1973 where everything changed. So one time in 1971, Clara came home to find her children scared, terrified. They were adamant that someone had broken into the home. And sure enough, all of the clothes in Clara, Laura Beth, and Mary's drawers were completely pulled out of their drawers. Mary's record player had been hurled across their room.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
Oh, my gosh.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
And they're usually very protective. Dog was terrified, like, cowering in the corner. Oh, only the girls rooms. Only the girls rooms. Only the girls clothes.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
Oh, weird. How many kids did they have again? Five.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
Four.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
Four.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
Mike.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
Four and five years.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
Mike, Laura, Beth, Mary. One stormy night in the winter of 1972, Clara drove to go pick up Mike and Beth from the lady, the Hop, the school dance. And on the drive home, it is a very stormy night. They're watching as sheets of lightning, like, illuminate the really dark sky. And they're driving up towards their house when the lightning strikes. And it illuminates something terrifying. That really big hospital tree at the edge of the road. And they see what looks like a silhouette hanging from the tree branch. And they hear the sounds of it swinging. Terrified, Claire's on her brakes, thinking someone actually is truly hanging from the tree.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
Yeah.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
But as this is a paranormal episode, no one was there. Terrified and a little shaken, they keep driving. But as they drive past the tree, they keep hearing the sound of something creaking back and forth. The hauntings surrounding this tree do become very commonplace. They would hear singing or chanting clear as day, coming from the tree. They also heard a creepy, monotonous male voice muttering a prayer. And at first it started out as this joke, like, oh, the spirits are having a concert up on the hill. But it grew much more chilling, much more menacing. And looking back, they realized there was nothing fun or playful about it. With these accumulating occurrences, the kids asked, prisoner, prisoner, you're not being kept here. You also don't have to stay in this if you don't want to. You can. I mean, you can't stay at Corinne's, but.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
Well, yeah, let's give that piece of advice once you're out of the house.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
Yeah, I'll talk. We'll have a conversation.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
You guys can chat later. Yeah. World Mental Health Day is coming up October 10th. And this year, we are saying thank you, thank you to our therapist. We say it every year.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
Thank you.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
We're screaming it. Thank you, therapist.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
Betterhelp therapists have helped over 5 million people worldwide on their mental health journeys, including me. I have been using better help for almost five years now, and it truly has changed my life. It's so nice having a therapist who shows up, who listens to and helps me take steps forward in my life and helps me manage big and small problems.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
I actually love this platform just because it is so flexible with, like, the. You can change the times, you can change the cadence of how you're communicating. If you want to be on video, call. If you want a phone, call. If you want to just message on the portal with your therapist. If you want to change a therapist at any time, it's so flexible, and I have recommended it to a few people in my life. We travel a lot, and that was always like their excuse for not being.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
Able to do therapy in the past. Yeah.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
And then I was like, you have to try Better Help. And they did. And they really liked it.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
It's amazing. And Better Help therapists work according to a strict code of conduct and are fully licensed in the U.S. plus, they make it really easy to match with a therapist. Better Help does all of the initial work. You basically answer a short questionnaire which helps identify your needs and your preferences, and then they match you to a therapist. And they do usually get it right the first time. But if you aren't happy with your match, you can switch to a different therapist at any time.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
This World Mental Health Day, we're celebrating the therapists who've helped millions of people take a step forward. Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
Obsessed with the way that my clothes smell now, all thanks to laundry sauce.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
We were introduced to laundry sauce a couple years ago and I have not stopped using it since. It smells so good. They have so many different signature scents. And it isn't just detergent. It's a whole setup. It's the ultra concentrated pods. They have scent boosters, dryer sheets, which I have stuck in just every drawer in my house now.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
Oh, so nice.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
They have fabric conditioner. Just all these things designed to work together and smell amazing. And they show up at your door before you even realize they're out.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
I love the French saffron scent. It smells so good. I feel like I don't even need perfume anymore because my clothes all just smell amazing. And for a limited time only, our listeners get 20% off your entire order. When you use code tgog@laundrysauce.com that's 20 off at laundrysauce.com with promo code TGOG. After checkout, they'll ask where you heard about them. Don't forget to drop our name, lock in your subscription to stay stocked and step into the season, smelling and feeling like you've got it all together. So with all of these occurrences happening, like the kids are like, oh, like we have ghosts. And they ask if they can use a Ouija board to find out what's haunting the home. It was just a Playful request. And Clara was like, it's just a Ouija board. Like that's just a game, right? So one night when Clara's out of the house, the kids pull out the Ouija board. They set it up in the living room where Clara had kept a vigil light burning in front of a statue of Mary. Pretty much ever since they started having paranormal encounters at the house, the kids are using the Ouija board in front of this burning light and statue, and they ask, what is going on in this house?
Spirit/Entity Voice
Ceremony there.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
Yeah, it's like a ceremony and they ask, what is going on in this house? Immediately, the planchette flew. Flies out from under their hands. And as the planchette is flying across the room, the candle that was lit lifts up off of the vigil stand and flies across towards them, landing in front of their feet wrong and extinguishing.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
She's like, there's no. There's no.
Spirit/Entity Voice
What happened to me?
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
What happened to you? Well, if you're the spirit attached to the figurine, at some point you passed and you found this cat. Yeah, figurine.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
And now, now you're here.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
You're here.
Spirit/Entity Voice
Where are we?
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
We're in Corinne's house recording the podcast.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
But it's so strange because it's like, it doesn't feel like there's any ramp up period. It's just horrifying, horrible experiences from the get go.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
Well, there is a ramp up period because these are all like really small things that are happening from like 1971 to 1973, and then 1973. Things like, you think it's crazy right now?
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
Yeah, I do.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
It gets insane in 1973.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
Oh my God.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
The candle flies. It extinguishes. It's at their feet. And the kids are terrified. And they're like, let's not, let's not do this anymore. And then I don't know who had the idea. You know, I think it's like kids playing. But Beth had this doll that she felt like was always watching her and threatening her. So one of the kids suggests that they get rid of the dollar. They decide to hang the doll.
Spirit/Entity Voice
It smells.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
Frick. Would they do that?
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
And as they're doing it, the energy shifts. And each one of them felt as if the doll was staring at them, judging them, plotting something dark.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
How is this their way of getting rid of the doll?
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
This is what I'm saying.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
So disturbing.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
I almost don't even feel like it was their idea. I think something like put that idea in their head. Given the fact that when we talk about the history of this land.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
Yeah.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
And how many people were supposedly hanged from the tree, like, it does feel like it's echoing the history. So as they're doing this, it starts like, threaten them. It feels really, really scary. So they cut the doll down and they throw her in a closet and lock the door. They're terrified. Beth, the next day, asks Clara to please give that doll away. And again, I think Clara was like, oh, you know what? It's fine. I don't think that bad energy is that bad. You know, she's like, oh, my kid's just scared of this doll. So what does Clara do? She gives this doll to a neighborhood, to a mom named Grace and the daughter named Susan. And apparently the very first night that the doll spent with Susan, every single bed in the home. So they're sleeping. This doll has just come home to them. Every member of this house wakes up to their beds shaking and rocking at the same time. Susan.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
But not an earthquake.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
It's not an earthquake. Susan knew it was something with that doll. Like, she just instinctively was like, this doll's was scary. So she puts it in the trash bin the next morning. But unfortunately, she watched as the trash was being picked up. The garbage man saw the doll and literally took it out of the garbage bin and put it into the, like, front of the truck. Meaning he was going to give it to someone else.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
Oh, no.
Spirit/Entity Voice
Museum.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
Wait, why didn't she run out and say, hey, hey. Definitely that doll has got some spicy energy.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
I do not know. But getting rid of the doll didn't do anything for the dandy family. Because like I said, 1973, the year the things changed. As time went on, the world around them began to shift. Birds started acting crazy. The atmosphere kept growing thicker and heavier. People stopped being able to sleep. And again, in recollection, a lot of people are like, oh, like each of us started to shift. Like, energy characteristics. Like, Clara used to wash the dishes and she would always sing. And in a letter that Beth wrote to her, she was like, mom, I hope you notice that, like, something has changed in you. You don't sing anymore.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
Oh, that makes me so sad.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
Phil and Clara are growing further and further apart. Phil's seldom coming home, and he's instead staying with Clara's parents near the city. Which I think he did still work in the city. But it's interesting that he's choosing to spend less time at home.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
Yeah. And it's not like he's running from her or their marriage. Like he's staying with his in laws.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
Yeah, exactly. And Clara claims that Phil's present in the home actually made the paranormal activity worse. So it's like when Phil wasn't there, paranormal activity was still present, but it was not as bad. Then In July of 1973, things took a much darker turn. Like I said, individual occurrences could probably take up four full episodes. But I'm going to share the larger ones and then you can read the books if you want. So at this point, both Phil and Mike, Mike is the oldest son and Phil's the husband. Are hesitant to really believe that whatever is happening in the house is paranormal. But 1973 changed everything. We have the singing and hanging bodies by the old tree. Then looking outside, they start to see eyes in the tree lines watching them. There was a ghost boy of around 16 years old who multiple people saw. He would often walk towards the pond and then disappear. People would see this boy at the exact same time and he would appear the same.
Spirit/Entity Voice
Planchette.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
Planchette. But the boy would have like different clothing. So if you and I saw the boy at the same time, I might see him wearing like jeans and a T shirt and you might see him.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
Wearing like, oh, that's strange because I was thinking like, did he drown or something. And that's why he's just like repeating his trip to the pond over and over and over again. But if he's changing outfits, it feels like some sort of manipulation or projection.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
Right. It's weird. From the very beginning, Mary and specifically her bedroom seemed to be the hotspot of activity. And by 1973, Mary hardly slept in her room at all, if even at the house. Like, she started spending more and more time in Buffalo with Clara's parents. And then the entities started targeting Beth and Laura. Now that Mary's kind of spending less time there, the entity's like, well, there's two more girls. Nearly every night there was stomping, scratching, or banging of some kind. On July 2nd of 1973, Clara wakes up to a terrified scream. It's 3:30 in the morning and she runs to find Beth in her bed, covering her eyes, terrified. When Beth finally calmed down, she explained that she went to go get a glass of water. And when she got back in bed, something jumped on her stomach. She thought it was one of the cats, until this thing came and started attacking her face. She pushed it away and it felt soft and furry. But keep in mind, their pets never did this. And it was also smaller than a cat or a pet. But when she knocked it off. She noticed that it didn't hit the ground.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
It's just hovering there.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
Know it just disappeared.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
Oh, it fully disappeared.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
Between July 2 and July 4, 1973, multiple items in multiple bedrooms were thrown across the floor. And on the morning of July 4th, Beth woke up to a really severe burn mark on her leg. And this is when Mike, the eldest, who was kind of hesitant to believe in any of the paranormal, gasps because he sees the burn mark, and he's like, I had a burn mark like that last week, assuredly, but I didn't tell anyone. It looked the exact same.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
Oh, my God.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
So now Mike is having a hard time ignoring that there's something paranormal happening, and he wants answers. So he suggests his mom to Clara that they go to the town historian. So the next day, he, Beth, and Clara all go to the historian to try to find out what happened in their home. And this becomes, like, the long journey of trying to understand the history of this house. I don't think they found a ton, but it was more of, like, a request to figure out stuff. So the town historian was like, on it. I'll figure stuff out. That night, they return home, and they're sitting in the living room watching tv. It's Mike, Beth, and Clara. When Mike points to something across the room, and he's like, what's that? And they all turn to look, and they had, like, a wall with portraits of the family in Mary's. Keep in mind, Mary's the one whose room was, like, the most haunted, to the point where she's most of the time living with the grandparents now in Buffalo.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
Yeah.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
In Mary's communion photo, they see a clear plastic letter opener is in the photo.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
What?
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
Making it look like Mary had been stabbed.
Spirit/Entity Voice
We command it.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
Oh, I don't like that at all. This is so typical, too, of, like. Yeah, really intense poltergeist activity where they do things that are displays of religious belief for the family who is enduring the haunting and then basically, like, tries to taunt them or do.
Spirit/Entity Voice
Yeah, there is.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
It is serious. Yeah.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
Clara had, over the years, kind of reached out to people to bless the house and do things, but she never really found anyone who could do it. So now it's July 4th or something, and she realizes that they have a family reunion coming up on July 8, and there's actually a cousin of hers who is a priest. So she calls her mom and she's like, hey, mom, can you, like, ask Father Bob, our cousin, if he would be down to bless the house? And Clara's mom's like, ask him at the reunion. So at the picnic, she confides in her cousin, Father Bob, and he's like, I'll do what I can, but I. I recommend you find someone who does that sort of thing.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
Okay.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
Meaning that he can bless a house, but he doesn't really deal with the paranormal.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
Yeah. He doesn't think that whatever he does is going to be strong enough or appropriate for what they're enduring.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
Yep. They basically plan that Bob is going to come by later that week. But before Bob comes, when they're back at the house, a lot of crazy things happen. They wake up to find the charcoal lighter in the bathroom next to the water heater. Like, someone had, like, put it trying to light a fire.
Spirit/Entity Voice
We command it.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
Additionally, Beth found burn marks on a set of curtains and burn marks in leaves of their plants. And all of these burn marks are the exact same size, exact same shape of the burn mark that she found on her leg that Mike found on his leg a couple days earlier.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
It's. Yeah.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
So now Clara is taking Father Bob's advice, and so she's been, like, searching the paper, trying to find other priests who does that sort of thing. And that's how she ends up getting connected to a man named Father Alphonsus, who will play a very large role in this story. We'll call him Father Al. So she calls him, but he's not in. So she has to wait.
Spirit/Entity Voice
I'm not from here.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
That Tuesday, July 10th, Father Bob and Clara's parents come to Hinsdale house. And as promised, Father Bob blesses the house. But as he's doing the blessing, Clara knows that it's not doing anything because the atmosphere in the house gets thicker and heavier as the blessing is happening. Two days later, Father Al returns her call and decides to stop by that afternoon. And Father Al becomes this, like, true light in their lives because.
Spirit/Entity Voice
Are you sick even?
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
Are you sick? Yeah, a little bit, Maybe. Now they're getting to know you a bit better.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
Are you gonna do a spell on.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
Me to make you feel better? He does so many exorcisms and blessings on this house. And while they never really work, he has such a positive light in their lives. Like his personality. He's just very charming. He's very nice. And anytime he leaves, the family just feels a lot better because he just provided them with a lot of positivity. He's also done a lot of work in the paranormal world. So when he examines the house and he hears Clara's story, he Tells her they're likely dealing with a poltergeist.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
I do like that they have this guy that they not only can trust and can confide in, but also that it does feel like he's there to protect them. Right? Like it's finally someone who's gonna understand things to finish the spell.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
Or he's doing a spell, maybe, like, kind of like it's a ritual. True troop. Okay, so not too long after Father Al comes.
Spirit/Entity Voice
Liar.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
Well, he doesn't mean to lie. He. He thinks he blesses the house, and it just doesn't work. But not long after coming to the house, a neighbor who Clara had confided in some of the paranormal activity that was happening comes to Clara and is like, hey, I know a psychic named Wally who can help you. And Clara is, like, open to doing anything, right? And she just wants answers to try to understand what's happening in her house. Unfortunately, this psychic, and I don't think they meant any harm by it. But the test that they did determined that Clara was powering the events in the house. That, like, Clara the mom, was responsible for it, and that the youngest, Mary, was actually channeling that power, turning it into a poltergeist activity, which, if you're a mom and your family is being plagued by, like, paranormal things, and you're told that, hey, you're actually the power behind this entity, you would become like, oh, it's all my fault, right?
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
It's so shitty. And then you're like, well, do I need to leave? Or, like, what do I do to.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
Fix this and go away? Start.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
Yeah, you think, like, do I need to go away?
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
And this really starts eating at her to the point where it actually makes her mental health worse. It makes all the paranormal activity stronger. Because what does something dark want? They want to weaken you and become stronger. It consumed her so much that she stopped eating and started to lose a lot of weight. As the days passed, Clara felt certain that the house and the entities were getting stronger because the humans living within were getting weaker. One afternoon, Laura, Mary, and their friend Susan were swimming in the pond while a bunch of others were sitting outside of the house enjoying the warm summer day, when all of a sudden, Mary and Susan come sprinting into the kitchen, talking about a woman they had seen dancing on the other side of the pond. This woman had red hair, big blue eyes, and buck teeth. This woman was, like, spinning around dancing until she disappeared in the tall grass.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
Wait, that's a weird way to describe her as having buck teeth, because, like, how could they See all the way across the pond.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
Well that's exactly why it's so weird. It's like, how did they see every single detail? And not only did she have buck teeth, she had red lines down every single one of her teeth.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
Yeah, I don't get it.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
Phil thought there was like a real woman on the property. So he runs over to the pond and he's like examining everything. There's no footsteps, there's nothing. There's no sign of anyone being there. And that is when Mary just so nonchalantly goes, I'll bet that lady died on the tree being hanged. Her eyes were bugging out of her head.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
Oh well, there was someone who. That makes me sad for her appearance too.
Spirit/Entity Voice
In the dark.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
Yeah.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
But then she's like also dancing and like it almost feels like she's luring them into the woods. It's kind of creepy.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
Yeah.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
So Phil looks to his wife Clara and goes, I think you should call Father Al again. So that evening, Father Al and his friend Father Dermot come to the house. They bless the house and they tell the dandies, don't worry, you'll never see that woman again. But they were wrong. And by the end of July 1973, the spirits were becoming more and more active. No longer just outside of the home, but they are now inside the house. It's by this time that the family basically decided to close up Mary's room entirely because the atmosphere in there had gotten so bad. They described it as a vacuum that just even walking in there it felt like you were moving through molasses. And it felt like, you know when you're flying you'd like pop your ears. Because the atmosphere changed. That's how it felt walking into a room. Even in the heat of the summer, Mary's room was freezing. One time Clara tried to light a candle in the room to clear the energy. And as she lit the candle, a stuffed animal. She's in the room by herself. A stuffed animal is thrown at her and hits her in the back of her head. She's utterly alone in the room. So now Mary's staying at the grandparents house as much as possible. Or when she would stay home, she would sleep with her mom, Clara. Despite closing off Mary's room, Beth, whose room was right below Mary's room, kept hearing furniture moving around in Mary's room. Like she would hear things shuffling around, but they'd go up and no one was there. There was one time they heard what sounded like someone like getting into bed in Mary's room. And they went up there and they saw the compression.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
Oh, it's just so wild too, because it's like they're all experiencing stuff, but they're experiencing things together. And also just the amount of time it takes, like to hear someone and then walk upstairs and then see.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
Yep. To see it.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
Yeah.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
On August 5, 1973, Phil was overcome by dread so bad that he decided he was not going to go to work because he was. He's like, something bad is going to happen.
Spirit/Entity Voice
I can't remember.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
And then they got a call from friends and this is really sad. They called to tell Phil and Clara that their daughter Laura had been making some really serious accusations, accusing every male of molesting her. So Phil and Clara take this very, very seriously and are incredibly concerned because if this is true, that's horrible. Right. But they ask Laura about it and as Laura is responding, she does not sound like herself. She starts talking in this like old timey, very formal fashion and her eyes almost look like they don't belong to her. But they want to get Laura help, right? Because they like, they want to figure out if this is true, what's going on. And when they do talk to someone, people are like, maybe you should try having her live with your grandparents for a little bit of time. Like maybe there's something happening in her life she needs to change.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
It seems like everyone's kind of fleeing to the grandparents.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
Yes. They decide to send Laura to go stay with the grandparents. But Laura literally says, this is really, really scary. Like she basically everyone starts to believe that something's possessing her. And when people express concern and they're trying to like care for Laura, Laura goes, it's okay. I know I'm going to die young and it doesn't matter because I've seen everything anyway.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
Well, I don't like that at all. And then it also just reminds me of like the Warrens come up a lot in investigations like this. But like when they categorized the steps and stages of poltergeist activity, like the fourth one being death, it's like whatever has taken over her is already like, yeah, that's the end goal and that's what's gonna happen.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
It's very sad. Yeah, it's hard to. Is it like, is the house impacting them? Was this always going to happen? I definitely think the house is playing a part.
Spirit/Entity Voice
Why am I here?
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
But I don't know that the house is responsible for Laura thinking she's gonna die young. But. So now Laura is spending more time at the grandparents house. But now with Laura's absence, the spirits are like, we need to find another vessel. And it chose Beth. It started on August 12th. Beth was in her bedroom, and all of a sudden she sees a woman with long dark hair standing in her window, outside of her window, beckoning her. She described the woman as having filthy wet hair with big dark eyes, pasty white skin, dead looking. But the worst part was the way that the woman was beckoning her. They didn't know this yet, but this is the beginning of what will become Beth's eventual possession. But like I said, they didn't know it yet. And after this encounter on August 12th, they do have a few days of peace, which every time they had that the family would get this hope that perhaps it was over. And around this time, a lot of rumors start to spread about the Dandy family and their so called haunted house. And people were spinning a lot of tales. Like, people were like, oh, the Dandy family is saying that, like, there's blood coming out of their pictures.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
Okay, well, sort of. One of their pictures is literally stabbed.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
Right? But it's also at this time, so, like, there's so many rumors being spread and a reporter from the local Alian newspaper calls and is like, hey, I want to write your story. Clara and Phil spend a lot of time, like between the two of them being like, I don't know if this is right for us, if this is good for us. But because of all the rumors that are being spread, they're like, you know what? Maybe we tell our story our way.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
Well, what's interesting is blood coming down the pictures is just such a, like the standard rumor would be. But what actually happened seems so much worse than that.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
I think what Clara and Phil, why they decide to agree to write this article is more that people are kind of accusing them of being liars and making up like outrageous stories. When a lot of the stories that are being shared, they never even said themselves. So they agree to this article under one condition. All names and the location of the house is out of the story to keep them anonymous.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
But that's weird. How does that combat rumors?
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
That's a good question. But I think they didn't want the location of the house to be anywhere.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
Okay, so it's still just like the haunted house of Hinsdale. Here's the real story.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
Unfortunately, when the article is published, it's on the front page with a big old picture of the house. And despite the names and address being left out, people are like, oh, I know what that house is. And People start camping out outside of the house from all over the country. Like, I think someone from Canada even drove down.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
That's wild. See, this is why so many of those haunted places are just like, historical landmarks. Have either a ton of security or they end up not letting people go in because people vandalize.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
So now, like, everyone's harassing the family, and there are people, like, parking outside of the house and they're either saying, you guys are liars, ghosts aren't real, or it's people wanting to see the ghosts.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
Also, if you are driving all the way there or camping out and spending your time and energy to tell someone the ghosts are not real, like, either you fully believe in ghosts or you.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
Need to really get other hobbies.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
Get other hobbies and look at yourself seriously, like, what are you doing?
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
But it gets so bad that they end up having to call the state troopers. And this is wild because the state trooper who knocks on the door to talk to the dandy family and, like, figure out what's going on used to grow up in this area. And his brother died not far from the house in a really, like, tragic accident. And the description of his brother matches the 16 year old boy spirit, like, identically. And they get to talking and they, like, put these two together.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
They obviously didn't know that the sheriff's just talking. And then they're describing this boy and he's like, oh, my God, that sounds like my brother.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
Oh, I have chills.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
Ooh.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
Like, it feels almost serendipitous.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
Yeah. And it feels like something drew him back to even be able to maybe it was his brother to understand what's going on.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
And Clara feels like this is fate. Like she's supposed to be putting these pieces together to try to understand the spirits. At the end of August 1973, things were escalating even more. One night, they woke up to every single burner on the stove being lit. Thankfully, nothing had fallen on the stove or they had woken up right when it happened. But, like, could you imagine? Like, it seems like something is trying to burn the house down or harm everyone inside of it. Father Al starts to come more regularly to perform blessings and exorcisms on the house. And Claire does recall that she would feel a very strong protective power when Father Al was in the house while he's doing these blessings. But the second the blessings were done, all that positive energy went away.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
So it's like he would have to do it constantly.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
Right.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
And there isn't the smurl possession that they had Everyone from their church come over, and everyone was getting prayers. And it seemed to work for, like, a hot second 12 hours.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
Yeah. Well, and it's interesting because in this story, it seems like nothing helps stop the paranormal activity except for one of Mike's friends named Randy.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
Just some random guy named Randy.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
Yeah, Randy comes over, and he. Randy wanted to see the paranormal so badly, but every time he came over, the ghosts were just, like, so silent.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
I love that.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
Like, she started. She starts to call him, like, the ghost chaser.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
The ghost chaser. I wonder what it was. I wonder if it was just, like, he was so desperate that the ghosts were like, this is a fun prank, maybe, or there was something powerful behind Randy that, like, made them all run.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
Whatever it was, it only lasted too long, because the night that things get really, really bad, which I'm about to get to, it's like, Labor Day. Randy was there, and it was. Randy was like, oh, okay. I got all the ghosts I ever needed. Now, despite all of these blessings, despite all these exorcism rituals going on, Beth is becoming more and more of a target. And at first, it was just the woman in the window, but then it started becoming someone sitting at the end of her bed at night. And now it's not just the woman at her window. It's a man and a woman standing outside of her window at night. And they're muttering. They're talking almost about Beth. And, like, Beth feels like they're talking about her as they're looking at her as she's trying to sleep.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
This is freaking me out, because that was one of my childhood experiences. It was an outside of the window, but a man and a woman standing outside of my door talking and whispering about me.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
Oh, so creepy.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
Oh, no, my brow.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
Did it fall. She then also sees that furry creature under her bed growling at her. She starts to smell a strange perfume permeating in her room. It was like there was a new entity visiting. And Beth now starts seeing who she thinks is Clara in her room. And there's one night she, like, kind of is groggy waking up, and she sees what she thinks is her mother standing at her dresser, her back to her, and Clara, like, the. Or who looks like her mom, asks her a question, like they're fully having conversations. And then came the day that has since been known as the day all hell broke loose. Labor Day, 1973.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
I knew I found a good mascara when I continued to use it for. I think now I'm going on, like, year five or six.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
Tell me it's the same one I use from Thrive Cosmetics.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
It is the liquid lash extensions mascara.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
Ugh.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
So good.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
It's so good. It's like this tubing, vegan tubing that truly extends your own lashes, but it doesn't damage your lashes. It comes off so nicely. Like, it actually is really satisfying to take off in the shower.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
The little tubes. Yeah, there's no clumping or smudging or flaking throughout the day. It's sweatproof. I get the color brown. Do you order brown or do you do black?
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)

Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
N rakuten.com Phil is getting ready to leave for work that night.
Spirit/Entity Voice
How do I use it?
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
When he gets that feeling again, that feeling of dread that something bad is going to happen, and he's like, I need to stay home. And this is now 1973. The family is like in pretty bad financial situation where so Claire is like, no, you got to go to work. Like, you can't you can't afford to miss holiday pay. Yeah, but Phil's like, no, no, I have to stay. Like, something bad is happening, going to happen. And sure enough, as, like they're debating this, the atmosphere around them shifts and they see someone dart around the house. They think, okay, maybe someone's on the property. They go to investigate. They cannot find anyone. But they keep walking through really, really terrible cold spots. As they start back towards the house, Chelsea. Clara sees a girl standing in Beth's window. This girl had strawberry blonde hair and it looked like she was sitting on Beth's bed. As Clara is looking up, seeing the girl in Beth's room, Beth is on the front porch and sees a figure dressed in white run in front of the house. This is now like dozens of entities, like sprinting around the house, terrifying everyone.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
Which also makes me wonder, like, are they purposefully doing that or are they running from something?
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
I don't know. So Beth and Mary go to investigate the woman in white. And it's not too long after that where Mary starts to scream because she is looking back at the house and sees someone looking out at them from inside her bedroom. Her bedroom which has been closed for months now. So now they're terrified that someone's inside of their house. Clara and Phil go to investigate and they tell Beth and Mary to stay in the kitchen. This is when Mike and Randy come home during this commotion, and this is the first time that Randy's ghost chasing abilities do not work. Beth witness the strawberry blonde sitting on her bed. And when Clara came to investigate, they literally watched the indentation from what seemed like someone sitting on the edge of the bed, as if they like got up and the indentation rose. Clara calls Father Al. She's panicked. She tells him that they're under siege because now they've seen nearly like four or five different spirits inside and outside of their house. They all seem like different spirits. Father Al comes over and he helps everyone get calm enough to go to bed. But that calm is temporary and Clara continues to research and look for help. On September 17, she sees in the newspaper that this like, psychic named Alex T. Is going to be giving a lecture at the nearby college. So her and Father Al go to the lecture and Father Al asks this psychic, Alex T. If he would come to the Hinsdale house after the lecture. They told Alex nothing of the events of the family had been facing at the Hinsdale house. And so he comes in blind.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
Wow.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
He walks through the house higher. And they all sit down and Alex speaks Calmly and simply and says, did you know you had a mass murder on your property? He then explains that he saw seven spirits. A man who had been stabbed, a woman who had been hanged, another woman who was drowned, a man who was beaten to death, and a young girl that Alex described as having strawberry blonde hair who was attacked, sexually violated, beaten and tortured to death. And remember Laura, their daughter, was saying.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
That she had been assaulted. Oh, my God. Wait, I'm also confused. Were all these people killed by the same person? When it's like a mass murder, it makes me think it's all at once.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
That's something that is very unclear because.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
It'S like different mos for every single.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
It does. I think mass murder might be the wrong term, but maybe mass amount of murders, multiple murders happened. Yeah. He claimed that all of these bodies or all of these murders happened some 100 years ago. And he had a sense that their burial sites had unknowingly been disturbed recently. And this is also wild because again, Alex knows nothing of this house. He's blind coming in. He claims that these bodies had been buried beneath some barn of some kind. And that is when things click for Clara. Remember how so many things are happening by the pond. This pond is man made recently. And what stood where the pond is now a barn.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
And then they put water there to, like.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
And remember how when they first moved in, the dogs would come in from the pond woods area with large bones.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
Holy shit.
Spirit/Entity Voice
Give it back.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
Yeah, give it back.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
Give it back to the land. Yeah.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
Oh, my God. The dogs got the bodies.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
Yeah.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
Oh, my gosh. And it's just so incredible that this guy knew nothing and he was able to identify some of the spirits specifically. And then, like, where. Basically where things are happening, why they're happening.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
Right.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
Man, that guy's powerful and he's identifying.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
Like, how all these spirits do.
Spirit/Entity Voice
Look, I told him.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
You told him? Maybe. Were you with Alex? T. So Alex knew none of this coming in. He then goes on to say that he saw another spirit, a woman who was about 90 years old, who had recently died but used to live in the house. So, like, didn't die in the house, but recently died and now was back at the house, and that she was unrelated to the murders, but she knew what happened and wanted to tell someone the way that he described. This elderly woman lined up with the woman who had lived in the house right before the dandies and sure enough had died one month prior to Alex's visit.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
I wish that this guy came in in the beginning. It's like they're getting all their answers. But after years of torment and right.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
And like, what do answers even do that's true.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
Well, I guess if you have the answer, it's like, you know, the bones and bodies were disrupted and so you can try to find some way to return them.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
Yeah. But blessed as we'll see, nothing works. Even getting blessed doesn't work.
Spirit/Entity Voice
So we like you.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
Oh, I like you too.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
Very different responses you get than I do.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
So Clara and the family did not know what to make of all of this. But Clara now felt determined to get answers. She wanted to find records of these supposed murders. And after Alex's visit on September 19, 1973, the house falls silent for basically an entire month. So they're like, oh, maybe Alex is the answer. Maybe. Maybe getting the answer to who these spirits were was all we needed to do. They have an entire month of silence. But Claire should have known not to trust that piece. Because on October 21, 1973, the spirits of the home tried to murder one of the Dandy family members. Next week we'll step even deeper into the darkness of Hinsdale House. We'll uncover the chilling and multiple attempts to take the lives to attempt to kill the Dandy family.
Spirit/Entity Voice
Planchet.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
What did it say?
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
Planchette.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
There's actually one more time they use a Ouija board, but I don't think anything actually happens. We'll talk about how something inside the walls of the Hinsdale house seemed intent on erasing them one by one. We will talk about the desperate exorcisms. Each one more frantic than the last. Every ritual failing as the house refused to let go. And we will witness how this place didn't just haunt the Dandies, it tore them apart. Because the story of the Hinsdale house is not finished. Not by a long shot. In part two, we will confront what lingers there today and why some people believe the horrors are far from over.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
Oh my God. Like that was all just a cliffhanger. That is wild. Like that feels like this should be the end. The fact that that is the setup.
Spirit/Entity Voice
Leave now.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
Leave now.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
Leave now. Run. Run to the grandparents house. Oh my gosh. I had no idea. I mean, people talk about the Hinsdale house. It's inspired movies, right? Like we get emails and stuff, but like Jesus Christ. I didn't. I didn't know.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
And just wait until next episode just.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
How bad it is. That is so scary.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
Next episode is a lot of car accidents and a lot of.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
How did you feel researching that Given that you have had fear of dying in a car.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
Please. Now, I actually felt fine. And believe it or not, I, like, couldn't sleep. So this past weekend, I was doing this research, right? And I was reading the books, and I woke up on Saturday night at like 3am and I couldn't sleep. And I just was like, I have so much to do on my to do list. Like, I'm just gonna keep reading Clara Miller's book. And I spent from 3am to 6am reading about the near possessions.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
That is so spooky of you.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
I know. Yes.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
Maybe something has possessed you to be able to do that.

Salad fingers.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
I do have puppets for my fingers, but I don't know that I can put them on.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
Do you want me to try to put them on you?
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
I got one. That's a cow. You want to put the cow on?
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
Yeah. For both this episode and next episode, I have stories from and about the.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
Hinsdale's house because you can go visit it.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
Greetings, ghostly girls. My name is Lindsay. You can use my name. I've been listening to your podcast for a couple of years now and finally have a story to write about. This is the first time I'm writing into a podcast, so hopefully it sounds okay. My encounter story is about the night that my husband and I, along with some of his friends, investigated the Hinsdale house in Hinsdale, New York.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
Damn.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
I'm not sure if you guys have covered this.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
I like you, but I don't. Do you like us? Do you like them? Corinne?
Spirit/Entity Voice
Why am I here?
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
We're leaving soon. Don't worry. Okay.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
Okay. I'm not sure if you guys have covered this location at all. There's definitely some crazy activity going on here. So now to the investigation. My husband and I have started doing paranormal investigations. And when we can, we live stream them on his streaming platform to his followers on kik. We have two REM pods, digital voice recorders, night vision cameras, cat balls, flashlights, EMF detectors, and a spirit box. All the things our best evidence was captured with the REM pods and spirit box. Doing the Estes method and with the flashlights.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
Cool.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
We started in the living room just trying to see if there was anyone with us and seeing how they wanted to interact with us. They especially liked when one of the girls that was with us started dancing and the REM pod started going off like crazy, which was quite comical. Wait.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
That's so fun.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
My husband. This reminds me of when someone had the, like, SLS tech at the at one of our live shows. And it showed, like, spirit in the Paint me like one of your French girls.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
Oh, that was so good.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
Pose right in front of us. Yeah. My husband was the first to go under the Estes Method, and immediately we got the name David. We started to figure out that we were talking to one of the brothers that built the home. The night started out pretty calm, but eventually we got increasingly more aggressive interactions with the Estes method. When another person in the group went under, they were getting words like shut the fuck up. And at one point, it seemed like they were directly saying it to me as she was slightly turning her head towards me when she would talk.
Spirit/Entity Voice
Unfortunate.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
So creepy.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
Throughout the investigation, we also had the Necrotalker app on our phone and we kept getting names of women, which was really unsettling. We also got a lot of words related to soldiers, war, and Native Americans as well. We had men come through on the spirit box, talking about losing limbs, being shot, etc. Our best evidence came when we went upstairs and we had our hour long session with flashlights. We were talking to a woman who we suspected may have been murdered by David. We learned that there were multiple spirits here. A woman that had been killed, and that they wanted to leave, but David would not let them leave.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
Oh, I don't. Interesting. In my research, I didn't hear a single thing about a man named David.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
It sounds like this is the family that, like, built the house.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
Yeah.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
So.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
Damn.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
Maybe he came back to try to be like, get it together, everyone.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
Yeah.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
We all felt so emotional during this conversation, and some of us had tears coming to our eyes. And while we were upstairs, we had left the REM pod in front of the basement door, and the basement was said to be the creepiest spot in the house.
Spirit/Entity Voice
What happened to me? Absolutely.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
When we went down there, we didn't sense anything. However, while we were upstairs, we did keep hearing that REM pod down in the basement go off. So I stupidly asked the woman that we were talking to if David was in the basement, if he was able to come upstairs or if she could bring him up.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
Oh.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
Next thing we know, the flashlight stops going off and you could feel that the presence had left. Then you hear the REM pod at the basement door go off again. And then all of a sudden we get this wave of heat coming over us.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
Have you brought David upstairs?
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
Yeah.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
No.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
I asked if anyone else suddenly felt hot, and everyone did. Now, this home has no heat or ac, so it's impossible for the temperature to change. That fast, we noticed a shift in the energy and the answers we started getting on the flashlights were a lot more negative now. We basically were told to leave. My husband asked if we were talking to David now, and it said yes. After several more questions, we discovered that David wanted my husband for reasons we couldn't figure out. Maybe he wanted power. Maybe he wanted him to help him. Maybe he wanted him to help him get out of there.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
Car.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
Car. Oh, was he driving? Did your husband drive there?
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
Which. There's a lot of car accidents and stuff.
Spirit/Entity Voice
Are you okay?
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
I don't know.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
My husband is very sensitive and he's been told that he is a beacon for spirits, like a light that they see and they're attracted to. He's always experienced heightened activity when he goes to haunted locations and has even attracted some passing spirits to our home when we have these random occurrences. But they're on and off.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
Damn.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
Anyway, David wanted my husband and I was not having any of that. I'm not sleeping next to a man that has a murderous ghost next to him.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
Yeah, probably not.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
We made sure to cleanse ourselves and we left. And luckily no one had any lasting effects. Thanks. Love you, girls. Lindsay.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
Damn.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
Oh, and they sent a link to their actual investigation. If anyone wants to.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
Oh, like a YouTube video.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
Watch it. Okay, let me tell you what the channel is so we can see.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
That's another thing about this topic is you can watch so many investigations of the Hinsdale House because it is one of those places that so many people have visited and done investigations at.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
Okay. Her husband's channel's name is Cosmote06.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
Perfect.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
If anyone wants to watch the like full on.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
Yeah, if you can't the Hinsdale House. Between this episode and next week, go consume all of the investigations you can.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
Because, well, dang, there's a lot better way. It says murder. Many attempted murders as it sounds like.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
Yes, it is scary. What happens to Beth, I will say, is what scares me the most.
Co-host 1 (possibly Lindsay or a main female host)
Oh, okay.
Co-host 2 (possibly Sabrina)
So we'll see you next week. Booches. I tried to change it up and we will be in different costumes, but we hope you enjoyed these ones. Date: October 19, 2025
Hosts: Corinne Vien & Sabrina Deana-Roga
Theme: Deep-dive into the haunted Hinsdale House, its chilling history, the haunting experiences of the Dandy family, and firsthand listener accounts of the supernatural phenomena at this notoriously cursed farmhouse.
In this special October episode, Corinne and Sabrina don costumes and set the stage for one of their most chilling investigations yet: the Hinsdale House, also known as the Dandy House, reputed to be one of the most haunted homes in New York. With a haunted object (“the cat figurine”) invited into the room and the GhostTube app running, the hosts warn listeners to set intentions and protect themselves during this dark two-parter. This first installment focuses on the grim history and the Dandy family’s documented encounters, setting the groundwork for the harrowing events to be explored in Part 2.
Location & Reputation: A seemingly quaint farmhouse at the end of a rural road in Hinsdale, NY, “steeped in blood, tragedy... the land itself may even be cursed.”
House’s History: Built mid-1800s; passage through many families, with a consistent shadow of illness, misfortune, and even rumors of suicide clinging to the property.
Sources for Research:
“It is a story centuries long, one with endless chapters of death, of occult practices, of failed exorcisms, and countless terrifying encounters with the paranormal.” (08:30, Sabrina)
On the House’s Threat:
“Maybe I am not afraid to kill you. I’m not afraid to add your name to the list of people who haunt this house.” (11:41, Daniel Klaes, quoted by Sabrina)
On Cumulative Tragedy:
“From its conception... home to a lot of death, tragedy, and misfortune.” (13:18, Sabrina)
On Misfortune:
“In four years that they lived there, they had an insane number of injuries, car accidents, and incidents beyond the normal.” (29:30, Sabrina)
On Despair and House’s Personality:
“The house is very much alive, its own entity.” (12:18, Corinne)
On Media Frenzy:
“People start camping out outside of the house from all over the country... either saying, you guys are liars, ghosts aren’t real, or wanting to see the ghosts.” (57:56, Sabrina)
On Possible Resolution:
“After Alex’s visit... the house falls silent for basically an entire month… but on October 21, 1973, the spirits of the home tried to murder one of the Dandy family members.” (70:13–70:41, Sabrina)
The episode closes with a promise: Part 2 will confront both the tragic climax of the Dandy family’s ordeal and what’s left behind at Hinsdale House. Exorcisms will go awry, attempted murders intensify, and the true, ongoing dangers of this house are still to be revealed. Sabrina:
“Because the story of the Hinsdale house is not finished. Not by a long shot.” (71:35)

“We are surrounded by love, by light, by positivity, and by Ashby.” (04:10, Sabrina)
Stay tuned for Part 2, and remember: leave now—if you dare.
