as the authority in your life? And I'd like to add to this a plea, a twofold plea, one that if it is not the Scriptures, my first plea with you is that you make that your final authority. And here's the second plea. If you don't make that your final authority, and if the Scriptures do not function actually in your life as the final authority. Now, I'm directing my words now to those who are in positions of leadership. Then I would plead with you with all of the emotion that I could muster to get out of any position of leadership in the Christian community, because you're an absolute menace to the kingdom of God. I don't care how nice you are. I don't care how cool you are. I don't care how talented you are. If you are walking around with your talents and your relational skills and subverting the authority of Christ, you're a menace to his people. And I would plead with you, for the sake of the people of God, to get out before you do any more damage.

Episode: Pastor, Where Is Your Final Authority?
Date: May 18, 2026
Host: Ligonier Ministries
In this brief but impactful episode, R.C. Sproul (via archival audio) addresses the critical question: What is your final authority in life, especially as a Christian leader? With urgency and passion, Sproul challenges pastors and Christian leaders to ensure that the Scriptures—rather than personal charisma, talents, or relational skills—function as their ultimate source of authority. The episode serves as a stirring call to self-examination and fidelity to biblical truth.
Sproul’s delivery is urgent, passionate, and uncompromising. He speaks directly to Christian leaders and, by extension, to anyone influenced by them, making clear the stakes and the non-negotiables of biblical authority.
This episode is a forceful exhortation for leaders—and all Christians—to anchor their beliefs, teaching, and actions firmly in the Bible. Sproul’s conviction comes through as he insists on the Scriptures’ unique authority, warning that failure to do so not only undermines individual credibility but causes real harm to the church. His memorable plea: If the Bible is not your final authority in ministry, step aside for the good of God’s people.
