Kristen Brooks just retired from teaching, and on the day she left, she loved it just as much as the day she started. That sentence alone should make every system leader stop and ask: what was she doing that we're not replicating?

The answer is simple. Kristen built a creation-based classroom. Not consumption-based. Not test prep. Not sit-and-get. A classroom where students made things, taught each other, and had what she calls shining star moments. The kind some kids never get anywhere else. Not on the football field. Not on stage. But in a classroom where the kid who knew Minecraft better than anyone got to stand up and teach the room.

The mindset shift that made it possible: stop being the smartest person in the room. It's not in your contract. When she let go of it, her students stepped in. And the joy went both ways.
