Last question for you. Game Plan what are the three areas SEOs should focus on to stay relevant in this next chapter of SEO?
C
I would stay focused on your market, your customers, and how your customers are searching. Are they shifting to new platforms? Are their queries getting longer in the queries that you can see? And then also, are they having conversations with AI platforms? Which ones? What pages are they landing on when they come to your website referred from one of these AI platforms? But stay laser focused on your customers, your audience, where they hang out, where they signal organic demand so that you can start to figure out how to harvest that. What you don't want to do is to look at all the chatter around SEO and the media reports around what Google's doing and extrapolate that across every industry so that it's basically dictating what you should be doing. You've got to stay laser focused on your customers.

Voices of Search Podcast Summary: "3 Areas SEO Should Focus On to Stay Relevant"
Release Date: June 14, 2025
Host: Tyson Stockton
Guest: Dale from Fire and Spark
In the latest episode of the Voices of Search podcast, host Tyson Stockton delves into the evolving landscape of Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and outlines three critical areas that SEO professionals should focus on to maintain relevance in the rapidly changing digital environment. The episode features insights from Dale, a representative from Fire and Spark, who shares his expertise on navigating the future of SEO.
Dale emphasizes the paramount importance of maintaining a deep understanding of one's market and, more specifically, the customers within that market. He advises SEO practitioners to:
Stay Customer-Centric: “Stay laser focused on your customers, your audience, where they hang out, where they signal organic demand so that you can start to figure out how to harvest that.” (00:53)
By prioritizing the needs and behaviors of their target audience, SEOs can tailor strategies that resonate more effectively, ensuring that efforts are aligned with actual customer demand rather than generic industry trends.
As digital behaviors evolve, so do the ways in which customers search for information. Dale highlights several shifts that SEOs should monitor:
Platform Shifts: “Are they shifting to new platforms?” (00:53)
With the emergence of new search platforms and technologies, understanding where your audience is conducting their searches is crucial.
Query Length and Complexity: “Are their queries getting longer in the queries that you can see?” (00:53)
The trend towards more complex and longer search queries necessitates a focus on long-tail keywords and more nuanced content strategies.
Engagement with AI Platforms: “Are they having conversations with AI platforms? Which ones? What pages are they landing on when they come to your website referred from one of these AI platforms?” (00:53)
As AI-driven platforms become more integrated into search behaviors, it's essential to understand how these interactions influence traffic patterns and user engagement on your website.
Dale stresses the importance of using data to guide SEO initiatives rather than relying solely on industry rumors or media reports:
Data-Driven Decisions: “What you don't want to do is to look at all the chatter around SEO and the media reports around what Google's doing and extrapolate that across every industry so that it's basically dictating what you should be doing.” (00:53)
By focusing on concrete data related to their specific audience and market, SEOs can craft more effective and tailored strategies that yield better results.
Customer Focus: The cornerstone of effective SEO remains a clear understanding of who the customers are and how they search. This involves not just demographic insights but also behavioral data that reveals search patterns and platform preferences.
Adaptability: The digital landscape is in constant flux, with new platforms and technologies emerging regularly. SEOs must remain agile, adapting their strategies to accommodate changes in how users find and interact with content.
Data Over Hype: In an industry often saturated with trends and speculation, grounding strategies in actual data ensures that efforts are relevant and impactful, avoiding the pitfalls of one-size-fits-all approaches.
Dale on Customer Focus:
“Stay laser focused on your customers, your audience, where they hang out, where they signal organic demand so that you can start to figure out how to harvest that.” (00:53)
Dale on Avoiding Industry Noise:
“What you don't want to do is to look at all the chatter around SEO and the media reports around what Google's doing and extrapolate that across every industry so that it's basically dictating what you should be doing.” (00:53)
In this episode, Dale from Fire and Spark provides actionable advice for SEOs striving to stay ahead in the dynamic world of search engine optimization. By concentrating on understanding their market and customers, adapting to evolving search behaviors, and making data-driven decisions, SEO professionals can ensure their strategies remain effective and relevant.
