I'm Jordan Cooney and joining me today is Steve Wonker, Managing Director at New Markets Advisors. What's one belief about productivity that AI is quickly breaking or changing?
Steve Wonker
I think AI is breaking the belief that it actually created initially that it was going to wipe out a ton of jobs. Yeah, there are some jobs that are going to be affected, just like the word processor effect typist jobs, but Time

Look, I've got a word processing capability and I'm still gainfully employed. So I think we need to think about what we really want as companies. It isn't necessarily just to chop heads, it's to be more productive, it's to get higher revenues. So let's think strategically about it and not narrowly in terms of how can we get rid of 50% of jobs. Even the companies that have made those big announcements are often quietly walking those back.

Okay, that's all for today. But until next time, remember, the answers are always in the data.

Jordan and Steve offer a refreshing, pragmatic look at AI and productivity. The episode dispels the fear-driven narrative around AI-induced mass unemployment, highlighting instead the technology’s potential to augment businesses by making them more efficient and strategic. Far from a jobs apocalypse, AI—according to this discussion—is quietly dismantling the belief that productivity gains must always mean workforce reduction.
