John Daly
This is a headgun podcast.
Beck Bennett
What's our podcast? What's it gonna be all about? Tell us what's our podcast? What should we talk about with Beck and Kyle? Okay.
Rochelle Chen
Wow.
Kyle Mooney
Wow. Okay.
Beck Bennett
This guy is feeling awesome. That was so cool.
Kyle Mooney
I've never seen somebody had his Kylo's.
Beck Bennett
Yes, somebody had his Kylo this morning, which is the cereal that you eat that was made for you.
Kyle Mooney
Yes, I, I also I, I, Is
Beck Bennett
it Kylo's just like little chunks of cheese and like crackers with some milk
Kyle Mooney
poured over as Beck is with me.
Beck Bennett
Yeah, yeah, I'm with him. I'm with you guys.
Kyle Mooney
No, Kyle does multigrain Kyle classic Cheerio style cereal. They're Kylo's, they're little O's, but they're, but they, they've got little K's on them.
Beck Bennett
So, so they're O's with K's on them.
Kyle Mooney
They've got a little K on each O. So it's a Kyle O.
Beck Bennett
A Ko. Listen, because it's not necessarily, it'd be if it was, if it was. Sorry, but just if it was a Kylo. No, no, no. It would be an O with the word Kyle on it and they'd be Kylo.
Kyle Mooney
Yes, they have, those are available too.
Beck Bennett
But you don't get those. You get the ones.
Kyle Mooney
I get the classic the K. The just the ones with the K on them are, are low in sugar tribates.
Beck Bennett
Oh, okay. So the ones, the ones that say Kyle on them aren't. And those are maybe more.
Kyle Mooney
Those are one those I used to eat when I was a little kid. Okay, those are more, those will have you really running around. But I just had a, I had a multigrain low sugar tribate Kylo.
Beck Bennett
Okay, good, good to know. That's good.
Kyle Mooney
Yeah, no problem.
Beck Bennett
Yeah.
Kyle Mooney
And I have it, and I. Yeah, and I have it with a little red milk.
Beck Bennett
Red milk? I don't think that's milk.
Kyle Mooney
I believe it is.
Rochelle Chen
Woohoo.
Beck Bennett
Why? It's from the blood of the cow. It's from the blood of the cow. So is it milk with the blood of the cow?
Kyle Mooney
I believe it is.
Beck Bennett
Or is it just the blood of the cow?
Kyle Mooney
I would have to ask my provider.
Beck Bennett
Yeah, you should ask them. You should definitely ask them because if you're. Either way, I don't think that's a good idea.
Kyle Mooney
I mean, I'm, you know, sorry, I'm like stepping back from the bit right now.
Beck Bennett
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Kyle Mooney
How did we get this blood from the cow? Right?
Beck Bennett
Well, because probably because of milking it and something maybe like an inhumane way.
Kyle Mooney
Okay, back in the bit.
Beck Bennett
Okay, so, yeah, if you're just joining us, which you probably are, because we're a minute and thirty seconds in. Kyle's telling us about his breakfast kylo's. And this is what's our podcast.
Kyle Mooney
The show where.
Beck Bennett
With Beck Bena and Kyle Mooney with. Show where.
Kyle Mooney
The show where a guest comes in. We don't know what our podcast should be about. So in what our podcast should be about. So we invite a guest to come in and. Or guests sometimes.
Beck Bennett
Yeah. And that's kind of.
Kyle Mooney
It's like, what they want, what they think our podcast should be.
Beck Bennett
Totally.
John Daly
Yes.
Kyle Mooney
Look at this. Like I was thinking about. Look at this.3 camera setup. And guess who's behind the boards. Rochelle.
Beck Bennett
Richelle. It's just Richelle today. Yay. Rochelle. Can you give us a whoop, whoop,
Kyle Mooney
whoop, whoop, whoop, whoop.
John Daly
Oh, yummy.
Beck Bennett
We heard from Rachelle often. Rachelle doesn't. She kind of stays quiet.
Kyle Mooney
Rachelle has never really contributed.
Beck Bennett
She kind of doesn't like to contribute. She just sits there, doesn't do anything. No, jk. She's making the show happen.
Kyle Mooney
She makes the show happen.
Beck Bennett
She does so much work, and she's.
Kyle Mooney
Of course, she's been. You might want to bleep this out. Doing her Big Brother competitions.
Beck Bennett
Yeah, we found out. Can we say. Can we talk a little bit about it? This last weekend, Rochelle was fourth to be voted off out of 16. And that made us. Me and Kyle got a little like, hey, who did that to you? Because, like, she'd be number one in my book.
Kyle Mooney
Yeah.
Beck Bennett
Come on.
Kyle Mooney
Well, it sounded like they were out to get you because they knew you were a great player.
Rochelle Chen
Yeah, some. Some of them knew who I was.
Beck Bennett
Yeah.
Kyle Mooney
Wow. This isn't like. This is sort of Big Brother inspired. It's not officially sanctioned. Is that accurate?
Rochelle Chen
Yeah, it's fake Big Brother.
Beck Bennett
But if any of the Big Brother people. If any of the big brothers out there are listening, maybe. Rochelle, would you ever want to be on Big Brother?
Rochelle Chen
I totally would. Do it.
Kyle Mooney
Okay.
Beck Bennett
So. Yes. This could be huge for us and for Big Brother. Reach out to us. Headgum, Rachelle. Or just directly to Kyle.
Kyle Mooney
Yeah, you can get a hold of me, actually, from the Kyle O website. Kyle o's website. I'm Kyleilos.com.
Beck Bennett
oh, do you sell your cereal there?
Kyle Mooney
I do run the company. Yes.
Beck Bennett
I sell the red milk there too.
Kyle Mooney
No, that comes from my provider.
Beck Bennett
And can you tell me anything Else about your provider. Is it like a milkman kind of a guy?
Kyle Mooney
His name is Wesley, and he visits me every now and again.
Beck Bennett
Every now and again. So it's not a regular schedule. You're just kind of like, you'll take.
John Daly
He'll pop.
Kyle Mooney
He'll pop by. Sometimes I'm not there, and I'll. And my wife or child will be like, hey, Wesley stopped by. He left some. He left some red milk for you. And sometimes he'll leave a little toy for me too. A little puzzle. He leaves a little puzzle for me. If I solve it.
Beck Bennett
Oh, my God.
Kyle Mooney
If I solve it under the right amount of time, I do get to. I get to stay alive for another 60 days.
Beck Bennett
Damn. Yeah. Oh. So, okay. I'm just like, yeah, sorry. No, I need to be sorry. I'm sorry for that you're in this situation.
Kyle Mooney
I want to talk more about the Big Brother stuff.
Beck Bennett
Yeah, I know we got derailed by the kylo, but. Yeah. Reach out about Big Brother. I'm sorry that you're in the situation with Wesley where it seems like he's a funny. Do you pay him?
Kyle Mooney
I do not. I do not pay him with cash.
Beck Bennett
Do you pay him with your body?
Kyle Mooney
That would be certain days, but other times. But other times, it sort of. Feats of strength. Am I able to do this? Am I able to do that?
Beck Bennett
Is he ever like. Is it just him there watching you or is he recording you?
Kyle Mooney
It's mostly just him. He'll pop in every once in a while.
Beck Bennett
Yeah, I know. He'll pop in every once in a while.
Kyle Mooney
He does. Yeah. I think quarterly, he. He brings in the Lords of Dread. And these are masked and caped men who accompany him.
Beck Bennett
I'm sorry.
Kyle Mooney
Yes. Sorry. I'm still stuck on the Big Brother stuff.
Beck Bennett
We covered it, I think. I think we told Big Brother to reach.
Kyle Mooney
It was sanctioned by Big Brother.
Beck Bennett
No, no, no. But we asked the Big Brother people to reach out.
Kyle Mooney
Okay.
Beck Bennett
If they're interested in auditioning the show. We're talking about the Lords of Dread and how they come by quarterly with Wesley. Your milkman who has red milk.
Kyle Mooney
He's my provider.
Beck Bennett
Yes. He's not your milkman. He's your provider.
Kyle Mooney
Yes, yes, yes, yes. And I. Yeah. And actually, I do, I believe, do puzzles. What is the date right now?
Beck Bennett
And feats of strength.
Kyle Mooney
Yes.
Beck Bennett
So that. So that you get to live another 60 days.
Kyle Mooney
Yes. Yeah. And so actually, I'm coming up on. It is Today's Thursday. Yeah. So this weekend I will be doing a. This sort of. He has this. I don't know. Have you heard of daiko train? Daiko chains?
Beck Bennett
I'm gonna say no. Daiko chains.
Kyle Mooney
Yeah. Okay. Well, that's one of the feat of strength. It involves sort of wrapping yourself in these elaborate chains.
Beck Bennett
Oh, wow.
Kyle Mooney
And then you have to pull large objects, boulders, sometimes. It's just like a large piece of granite.
Beck Bennett
Yeah.
Kyle Mooney
And you'll. Of course, you get dropped off in a daiko chain facility
Beck Bennett
to lift these things for the feats of strength. Yes, yes. Are there other people there or.
Kyle Mooney
I am not totally aware because I am temporarily blinded because they give you, of course, torfo. Mins. Which is a. Ah, sorry. A swallowable, blinding supplement.
Beck Bennett
Okay. I think. I think we do have to move on now for. For time. I mean, this is fascinating, but I would love for this for people. I'm so happy that our audience and hopefully more are going to get to learn about this.
Kyle Mooney
Yeah.
Beck Bennett
What you. The situation with your provider and the
Kyle Mooney
Kylos and shout out to Wesley and the Lords of Dread.
Beck Bennett
Oh, wow. It seems like you have a good relationship with them. That's really great.
John Daly
I got.
Kyle Mooney
I got a question for you.
Beck Bennett
Yeah.
Kyle Mooney
You know, this morning. This morning, I truly. Like, probably 32 minutes ago.
Beck Bennett
Yeah.
Kyle Mooney
Maybe 15 minutes ago.
Rochelle Chen
Okay.
Beck Bennett
Yeah. Well, I mean, we've been here for.
Kyle Mooney
Yeah, yeah, I got it. I got a text.
Beck Bennett
I was just like, your day's going fine.
Kyle Mooney
Exactly. It wasn't even. This is not a major text, but it's like. And I saw the name come up. I was like, I bet this is a text. I don't. To see.
Beck Bennett
Yeah.
Kyle Mooney
And it's like, you, You. We all experience that. Right.
Beck Bennett
Like, oh, all the time.
Kyle Mooney
And when you have to do it right before you start recording.
Beck Bennett
Yeah, that sucks. You can't tell us? No. You can't tell us?
Kyle Mooney
No, I can't. I can't say it. It's really not even that annoying of a text. But it's just like, ah, you know what? I come. This is like a safe space where I get to have fun with my friends.
Beck Bennett
Yeah. And like, that's what I can.
Kyle Mooney
You're going to get in the way of my work right now.
Beck Bennett
So can I. Can I ask, is it family, friends, work?
Kyle Mooney
Okay.
Beck Bennett
Or miscellaneous.
Kyle Mooney
It is a combination of this, I think this is probably, as far as
Beck Bennett
I can tell you, friends and work.
Kyle Mooney
Yes.
Beck Bennett
Yeah. Okay. Leave it there. Ah, my throat. My voice is a little. Can you. Can you hear it, Rochelle? Can you hear how it's a little dry? No, you can't.
Rochelle Chen
Sounds Buttery, buttery.
Kyle Mooney
Wow.
Beck Bennett
So much. Sometimes I feel like I have a little lack of traction in there. It's a little dry.
Kyle Mooney
What's up with you? I feel like. Sorry. Besides the throat stuff. Sorry to interrupt you. Oh, yeah, sounds great, by the way.
Beck Bennett
Thank you.
Kyle Mooney
Anything. Anything you want to report? Probably gonna bring on our guests soon.
Beck Bennett
Yeah, yeah, yeah. No, just the. You know, just still sort of settling back into regular life after Broadway. That's right, it is.
Kyle Mooney
You think this show could ever be on Broadway?
Beck Bennett
What's that?
Kyle Mooney
Do you think this show could ever be on Broadway?
Beck Bennett
Definitely, yeah.
Kyle Mooney
I mean, what would that look like?
Beck Bennett
I think we incorporate some of our songs and our characters.
Kyle Mooney
Song would be great.
Beck Bennett
Like, we're trying to do a podcast, but our characters are coming in and they're singing songs, and maybe we're doing dances, and we're like. We're like. We have to figure out the podcast. Stop it. And, like, Wesley comes in.
Kyle Mooney
Yes.
Beck Bennett
Well, I would definitely need or, like, you know, all sorts of these characters, and it's like, stop it.
John Daly
What are you doing?
Beck Bennett
We got to put on the podcast.
Kyle Mooney
Yes.
Beck Bennett
I think we actually could do a show.
Kyle Mooney
I can. I actually can imagine this set on a Broadway stage. I think it would look cool. And I can imagine, like, for those. Sorry. For those of you listening, I'm gesturing, but, like, there's. Maybe there's like a. I can imagine there being like, a big slice in the middle of the set, like, splitting apart or something. Like, that would be cool.
Beck Bennett
What was in it?
Kyle Mooney
A slice.
Beck Bennett
A slice.
Kyle Mooney
I don't know. I'm just imagining, like.
Beck Bennett
Oh, yeah.
Kyle Mooney
Just like.
Beck Bennett
Like, maybe the stage moves apart. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I was on one of those during Broadway, but it came back from the front. We were sitting on. We were actually sitting in a couch and two chairs. And the stage, it moves back, like, a layer of the stage. So we moved back.
Kyle Mooney
Would you ever.
Beck Bennett
It kind of went like that. Yeah. No, I was always okay with it, but. Yeah. I forget what they called it. The slip. Did you get.
Kyle Mooney
Did somebody come by and say five minutes?
Beck Bennett
Yes, there was actors called 30. This is your 15 minutes.
Kyle Mooney
Is that.
Beck Bennett
Is this your five minutes? This is your places.
Kyle Mooney
Is that just. Is that over a PA or somebody approaching you?
Beck Bennett
That's our stage manager, Stephen, over the
Kyle Mooney
pa. And did you say thank you? Five.
Beck Bennett
No, no, no. Because you're in your dressing room. That would be awkward. That wouldn't make any sense. Because they would.
Kyle Mooney
Well, that's what they wouldn't be able to. I remember doing that in Old school. High school theater. Yes. Did you ever say that when the stage manager, someone would come by and say, five minutes, say, thank you, five?
Beck Bennett
I think I did that more in, like, recent times.
Kyle Mooney
Okay. I was taught back in high school. I've been doing it since high school.
Beck Bennett
Maybe I did do that in high school.
Kyle Mooney
Thank you, five.
Beck Bennett
But right now, we're not in high school. We're here at Headgum and we're about to introduce our guest.
Kyle Mooney
Sure.
Beck Bennett
His name is John Daly. He's one of the funniest comedians, performers around ever, I guess. I guess. He's done so many things, so many characters, been part of so many shows. Kroll Show, Rich Dicks, Ed, Hardy Boys, Fallout, currently. Fallout, currently. Bill Cosby, Bukowski. He's played John Daly, the golfer in an Adult Swim. He's made special. He's done. He did that Red Hot Chili Pepper song. Oh, yeah, that was abracadabra.
Kyle Mooney
California.
Beck Bennett
California. He's done just, like, so many fun, funny, weird, interesting, funny things. His podcast that he had two Johns don't make a Right, where he drove around with his friend John, and they only took left turns. I was on it once. And yes. Now he's on Fallout, second season of Fallout. And is he here? Can't wait to talk to him.
Kyle Mooney
Oh, wow. All right, let's bring him in. Let's bring him. Yeah, I'm excited myself. Let's. Let's do it.
Beck Bennett
Let's bring him in here.
Kyle Mooney
Let's bring him in. Today's episode is brought to you by Alma. Alma.
Beck Bennett
Alma.
Kyle Mooney
A year from today, who do you want to be?
Beck Bennett
Sammy Davis, Jr. Not what I was
Kyle Mooney
expecting, but awesome sauce. What version of yourself would you like to meet? Definitely Sammy Davis, Jr. Sammy Davis, Jr.
Beck Bennett
A year from now,
Kyle Mooney
do you feel less anxious?
Beck Bennett
Yeah.
Kyle Mooney
I'm sammy davis, jr.
Beck Bennett
I'm sammy davis, Jr.
Kyle Mooney
I'm top of the road, I'm crooning, and I'm actually.
Beck Bennett
Do you have any other questions for me?
Kyle Mooney
Are you or do you feel more like yourself?
Beck Bennett
No, I feel less like myself. I kind of feel more like Sammy
Kyle Mooney
Davis, Jr. Maybe your relationship is stronger or the grief feels smaller.
Beck Bennett
No, it's just kind of on top of the world. I kind of just do whatever I want. I'm Sammy Davis, Jr. But anyway, for real.
Kyle Mooney
But for real, who do you want to be in a year from now?
Beck Bennett
I want to be.
Kyle Mooney
Do you want to feel less anxious? Do you want to feel more like yourself?
Beck Bennett
I do.
Kyle Mooney
What if the thing that you've been secretly worried about just took up A little less space in your mind. Would that be nice?
Beck Bennett
That'd be great. And I've definitely been there before where it's. The thing is taking up a lot of space, and then it takes up less space and it can even take up less space. Yep, that's right.
Kyle Mooney
You know who helps with that?
Beck Bennett
Who?
Kyle Mooney
I'm not going to say Sammy Davis Jr. Back.
Beck Bennett
Dang it.
Kyle Mooney
The right therapist. The right therapist can help you get there. Alma will help you find them.
Beck Bennett
Alma has a directory of 20,000 therapists with different specialties, like, you know, life experiences, identities, and 99% of them take insurance.
Kyle Mooney
You, my friend. You and you. And hell, I'm going to say yes.
Beck Bennett
Put it on yourself.
Kyle Mooney
You right here, pointing at me, the
Beck Bennett
man in the mirror.
Kyle Mooney
You deserve to feel like that future version of yourself. You deserve it. A year from today isn't that far away.
Beck Bennett
Get started now@helloalma.com our podcast. That's hello, Alma.com O U R P O D C A S T. And
Kyle Mooney
I am never going to forgive you for that Sammy Davis Jr. Stuff.
Beck Bennett
So I want to be Sammy Davis
Kyle Mooney
Jr. You are amazing.
Beck Bennett
At Vrbo, we understand that even the best of plans sometimes need a little support. So we plan for the plot twists.
Kyle Mooney
Every booking is automatically backed by our
Beck Bennett
VRBO care guarantee, giving you confidence from the very start.
Kyle Mooney
Whenever you need help, it's ready before
Beck Bennett
your stay, through the moments in between
Kyle Mooney
and after your trip. Because a great trip starts with peace of mind and maybe a good playlist, but we've got the peace of mind part covered.
Beck Bennett
The hot dog. Oh, the hot dog. I don't always love a hot dog, but it's a thin, long hot dog. It's not a fat, short one, Right? Like the thin, long ones.
John Daly
I like a thin, long one. Yeah.
Beck Bennett
Yeah. You know, it's not too much to bite off. You know what I mean? Whoa.
John Daly
It's not too much to. Yeah, it's a really suckable dog.
Beck Bennett
Yeah, exactly. You can suck on that thing. Okay. Okay.
Kyle Mooney
You didn't get to say what you liked about usc. We should. We should. And we should also say that our. Our guest is here.
Beck Bennett
Okay.
Rochelle Chen
Yeah.
Beck Bennett
Okay. So. Yes. What should we introduce? How do we. How do we do that? Do we go.
Kyle Mooney
We're. We're being joined by the great John Daly. We're talking. Hey, hamburgers and hot dogs.
Beck Bennett
Usc.
Kyle Mooney
Usc.
John Daly
We're talking fast food.
Beck Bennett
We're talking fast food, honestly. And that's all we recorded. I guess we're fucking recording. This thing. Is this thing on Is this.
Kyle Mooney
I hope.
Beck Bennett
John, thank you for being here.
John Daly
Oh, thanks, thanks. Thank you. I appreciate it.
Beck Bennett
Thank you so much. Said in the intro.
John Daly
I love you guys. I'm a huge fan.
Beck Bennett
Oh, man.
John Daly
I love. Good neighbor. I'm.
Rochelle Chen
Yes.
John Daly
I love. Yeah. You guys know, you're great.
Beck Bennett
Well, you're. You're incredible.
John Daly
Thank you.
Rochelle Chen
Thank you.
Beck Bennett
So funny. Like you were when we started doing shows at ucb. I think you were. I remember seeing you backstage with Nick doing like Ed Hardy Boys. Oh, yeah. And being like, oh, these guys. I remember these guys are the guys.
Kyle Mooney
I feel like guys.
John Daly
You. I thought you were the guys being sweet, cuz you were doing this the best. Like, awesome, cool, aesthetically lo fi. Awesome stuff. Yeah, I loved it.
Kyle Mooney
That is so good.
John Daly
I love it. It's in the present, so I do love it.
Kyle Mooney
Yeah. But I do remember, like, maybe it was like, I'm going to get niche here. Sorry.
Beck Bennett
Everybody get niche.
Kyle Mooney
But maybe it was like a CDR sketch show or something like that comedy death ray sketch. Possibly a show like that. And I remember you all, you and Kroll debuted Ed Hardy Boy's video that was about to come out on Funny or Die.
John Daly
Right?
Beck Bennett
That was.
Kyle Mooney
And like.
John Daly
Yeah, yeah.
Kyle Mooney
And I could feel your excitement as like, we're gonna debut it. And then it crushed and it was like. It was cool, I think, for everybody involved because we got a little sneak peek.
John Daly
Yeah.
Kyle Mooney
Yeah, maybe. Is it possible? I wonder if that was one. Ed Hardy was in one of them, right? No.
John Daly
Christian odaj. Yeah.
Kyle Mooney
And Hardy's not a person.
John Daly
Right. Ed Hardy's just. Well, Ed Hardy was a person. He's a. He's the tattoo artist that they stole. Christian Odaj stole all of his designs to make the Ed Hardy shirt. So all those kind of like, you know, things. They're like old school tattoos.
Beck Bennett
Yeah.
John Daly
Like, I think he's from San Diego.
Kyle Mooney
Okay, there you go. And I should know this then.
John Daly
Christian odaj. Yeah. We put him in and he was like, Benny, he was weird guy, May he rest in peace.
Beck Bennett
He's.
John Daly
Yeah, a weird guy. We had a big meeting with him and he held a. He had this like, like prop, like, oversized baseball bat.
Beck Bennett
Yeah.
John Daly
And we came into the meeting and he had a baseball bat in his hands and he put it over his shoulder and was like, okay, guys, so what do you want to talk about? And I was like, what a way to have a meeting with a big baseball bat.
Beck Bennett
Like, is this. Is that like a power move? Like, what do you want to talk about? Like, be Careful.
John Daly
Yeah, yeah. And we were like, we want to, like, make you a star. We want to put you on this video. And he was like, oh, good, guys. Just a weird fella, you know.
Beck Bennett
Yeah. Kind of like a salt bait kind of guy. That's how I imagine. I'm kind of like, okay, you know. M curious.
John Daly
Made of leather. He looks like a leather bag. He's a French maniac snake man.
Beck Bennett
For our. For our visual audience, can we just pop a photo of him right here? Oh, right there. Yeah. Wow. That's what he looks like.
Kyle Mooney
And also, can we just go ahead and show an image of a baseball bat?
Beck Bennett
Yes.
John Daly
Yeah.
Beck Bennett
So. Yeah. And then. So you can imagine what that looks like. Just for the YouTube people.
John Daly
Check that out.
Kyle Mooney
If you're one of our listeners. Just go ahead and imagine the baseball bat and. And what the guy looks like. If you. I don't know if you can be a little more descriptive about his face.
Beck Bennett
We said the leather bag.
John Daly
Tanner looks. Yeah. Like a handsome guy. Like the kind of guy you'd see on a sailboat and be like, that makes sense. And yeah, he got the three quarter kind of pants on and he. And we saw the people, like, kind of slaving away making his designs.
Beck Bennett
We.
John Daly
He was like, took us through the whole factory.
Kyle Mooney
Wow.
John Daly
And he. He showed us a shirt and he showed us the new design. So he was like, this is the new design. And I was like, how much. How much does this cost to produce? And he was like, American, like, $253. And I was like, how much do you sell it for it? And he was like. I was like, 280 bucks or something. He was like, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. It's an amazing thing he did.
Beck Bennett
That's. Yeah.
John Daly
And now it's coming back around.
Beck Bennett
It is cool.
Kyle Mooney
I heard it mentioned recently.
John Daly
Yeah. I was at the USC UCLA football game.
Beck Bennett
Yes.
John Daly
Doing a sketch with Jay Weingarten. And. And I saw, like, people in Ed Hardy. And I was like.
Beck Bennett
And is it. So that's like vintage at Hardy? Because it's not. Is it still being made?
Kyle Mooney
I think it is.
John Daly
2000.
Kyle Mooney
I think it's. I think you can buy it in the stores again.
John Daly
Yeah, yeah. But it's like throwback now.
Kyle Mooney
Yeah.
Beck Bennett
Yeah.
John Daly
It still sucks.
Beck Bennett
You did.
Kyle Mooney
I love the Ed. Thanks. Well, okay.
John Daly
Some of the.
Kyle Mooney
So it's kind of
John Daly
shirts fit really good. They use gray cotton. Yeah.
Kyle Mooney
It was a great series of videos. And this is like, I'm thinking like circa 2008. Nine, maybe.
John Daly
Is that nine or 10?
Kyle Mooney
Yeah. Yeah. But you. You had so many great pieces of comedy over the years. I'm sorry. Sorry. It's a very basic way to say something, but, like, I think of. Yeah. We were talking about the. The Red Hot Chili Peppers song.
John Daly
Oh, yeah, yeah.
Kyle Mooney
It's Abracadabra.
John Daly
Abracadabra.
Beck Bennett
Yeah.
John Daly
So it's like Abracadabra with California on there.
Beck Bennett
Yeah. And he. I remember we were at a snl. I think you pulled it up on your computer.
Kyle Mooney
Yes.
Beck Bennett
And I was like, is this a new song? It sounded so accurate for a second, and then it was like. He was like, no, this is John Daly.
John Daly
Right, Right. It was.
Beck Bennett
It's so good. Yeah.
John Daly
It fooled a lot of, like, out. It fooled, like, Yahoo Music, and they did a review on it that was like, what are the Chili Peppers? Think. Another song about California and magic, like. Or whatever.
Beck Bennett
Yeah.
John Daly
And all the Chili Peppers at that point followed me on Twitter.
Kyle Mooney
Wow.
John Daly
Twitter was, like, in its heyday, I think, like, back then. And.
Beck Bennett
Right.
John Daly
And. And they all unfollowed me on the same day, and I was like, oh, they really hate it. Okay.
Beck Bennett
Wow.
John Daly
Okay. Well, whatever, you know. Yeah.
Beck Bennett
I mean, that's. I mean, that's a bummer, because it is like. It is like. It. It's real. You really nail it.
John Daly
And it's like, you know, I love them, you know, so it's like, I love your band. That's the only way I could make this. I'm, like, a student.
Kyle Mooney
Right.
John Daly
Of your band.
Beck Bennett
That's how you see.
Kyle Mooney
That's.
Beck Bennett
It's so funny sometimes, like, with comedy, I'm like, you're making a joke. And I'm like, oh, I wonder if John, because you are a musician and I know you love music, and I was like, oh, maybe. He's like, this is not good, but. But you never know where somebody's necessarily coming from, because I love them, too. And I remember, like, being, like, a sophomore in high school, like, longboarding and, like, listening to CaliforniaNation in the Midwest being like, this is it.
Kyle Mooney
I put on a Show Pepper song no more than six days ago.
John Daly
Right.
Beck Bennett
Because I saw.
Kyle Mooney
I saw a video of a high school band covering one of them. They created Chili Peppers.
Beck Bennett
Oh, yeah, sorry. They created, like, a truly unique style, which is why it's, like, right. So ripe for parody.
John Daly
Yeah. It's like his vibe, like, it's all Kiedis. It's like, his vibe.
Beck Bennett
Yeah. Nobody else can do that.
John Daly
California.
Beck Bennett
If you guys are out there listening to this, we're all. We're all fucking huge Fans.
John Daly
We're fans.
Beck Bennett
Yes.
Kyle Mooney
And Chad Smith looks like Will Ferrell.
John Daly
Chad Smith looks like Will Ferrell's a genius. John Frusciante's back. Yeah, he's a full on.
Kyle Mooney
And we were talking about Dave Navarro on this podcast.
John Daly
We were. Dave Navarro. I just saw Jane's Addiction. This is. This is crazy. I just saw Jane's Addiction. Me and Tall John and Scott Aukerman. And we. We all went to Jane's Addiction because I love Jane's Addiction at the same time as the Chili Peppers. I was like, these are my bands, man. And we saw the last concert at the YouTube Theater at SoFi. We saw the last concert before they, like, got into the fist fight on stage.
Beck Bennett
When was that?
John Daly
That was. I remember, in the news, like, last. I forget when it was. It was last October.
Kyle Mooney
This is maybe unfair to speculate, but, like, is there a person to blame?
John Daly
I think it's Perry Farrell. And, like, the other guys are kind of like. And this is funny because I went to the. I went to the Flaming Lips show in December. I love the Flaming Lips.
Beck Bennett
I do, too. Yeah, I've seen them.
John Daly
Perry Farrell was there.
Beck Bennett
Yeah.
Kyle Mooney
Okay.
John Daly
And I was like, with some friends. And I was like, all right. This guy I've loved since I was, what, in seventh, sixth grade? Like, I love this band. I'm gonna go up to this guy. And I just said the worst thing because I went. I went up to Perry Farrell, and I was like, hey, man. And I knew he was gonna, you know, I don't want to be a dick. He was with his wife, so I didn't want to bug him, but you
Beck Bennett
know how to do it.
John Daly
I have to say this. I was like, I'm gonna be very cool. And I was like, hey, man, I just want to say, I'm a lifelong fan. I love the music. Thank you so much for the music. And he. And he was like, extremely. I would say, extremely nice. Like, he didn't have to be cool, but he was like, hey, man. Hey. Kind of check me out. And he was like, okay, yeah, thanks. Thanks, man. Thanks. And he was like, let's talk. And he was like, when did you get into it? When did you get into it? And I was like, oh, man. Like, you know, old school, nothing shocking. I would like. I love all the live album, etc, And. And then I went, actually, you know, me and my friends. This is so dumb. Why did I do this? But I was like, actually, me and my friends went to the. The last show you guys did before you kind of I just went because I caught myself. I was like, before you kind of, you know. You know, Went insane. Correct. Went insane and like fought your band. Yeah. But now I'm. I follow them on. On Instagram and I, I feel confident that they'll get together again.
Beck Bennett
Yeah. Oh, that's good.
Kyle Mooney
Was there like a fight on stage?
John Daly
Yeah, I think it happened in Boston. It was like, it was like the show after we saw. And I think they just like, they have like, the LA show was good.
Beck Bennett
They.
John Daly
But I guess they hated each other. They were like fighting at the LA show, but they got it together because it's like all their people and yeah, it kicked ass and it, you know, it's just so great.
Kyle Mooney
And let's say shout out to everybody from Jane's Addiction too. If you're. If you all are listening.
John Daly
Yeah.
Beck Bennett
Fans. Dave
Kyle Mooney
Perry.
Beck Bennett
I honestly don't know the names. I know the music. Yeah, but Wesley's not part of it.
John Daly
Wesmoreland.
Beck Bennett
Yeah, but did he, did he notice you? What did. Was he like, did he react to you?
John Daly
He was super cool about it.
Beck Bennett
Okay, great.
John Daly
Well, then he was a bit maybe in cool mode.
Beck Bennett
But I've done that so many times where I'm talking to somebody like, I'm like, we're good. And then I like go into a place of, you know, maybe that's not a great part of their repertoire or something.
John Daly
Right. I'm like, you know, you bring up something that you like that they are like, what? Yeah, you like that? Like, that's not what I do, man.
Beck Bennett
It's hard. It can be hard to approach people, but it is always better than me, though.
Kyle Mooney
I feel like I've had people like, like, I don't know, you call it. I don't think what you did was that bad.
John Daly
It wasn't that bad. And I saved it because I was like, Flaming Lips. What a great band, man.
Kyle Mooney
He's like, I love these guys.
John Daly
Yeah. You know, it was over.
Kyle Mooney
But I've definitely been reverse complimented before. I don't know if that's. Of course. You know what I mean?
Beck Bennett
Yeah. Where it's like, man, I used to love the stuff you did back then. Yeah, why don't you do more?
John Daly
Like, that's what I did. I do that. Like, good neighbor, man.
Beck Bennett
Like, no, no, no, not at all. No. Like, people do that to Kyle, where it's like, I like the old stuff more than what you're doing now. Like, why do you do that? As opposed to like, not just being like, I like that old stuff, but like, why don't you do that now instead of like, what you're doing now? Yeah. Why would that. Maybe not that specific, but that's how it comes across.
Kyle Mooney
Or the way. Or the way your brain.
Beck Bennett
Yes.
Kyle Mooney
Digests it.
John Daly
Yeah, yeah. Or just something you're done with and, like, you're just like, oh, you're okay. You're bringing this up. Yeah, it's. It's not annoying. It's great because you like me.
Beck Bennett
It's also like, yes, but exactly.
John Daly
Good guy.
Beck Bennett
And you kind of get used to that sort of.
John Daly
Yeah.
Beck Bennett
Experience. I think at first when it happens, it's a little off putting, but. Yeah, I'm sure.
Kyle Mooney
I'm sure Perry has dealt with some. Some rough conversations that are way more like, literally awful.
Beck Bennett
Yes.
John Daly
Right.
Beck Bennett
Seems like he was stoked. You guys are in a good place.
Kyle Mooney
He was.
John Daly
Perry.
Beck Bennett
Yeah.
John Daly
Yeah. He looked great. I was like, wow, you look great.
Beck Bennett
That's awesome.
John Daly
Got that good.
Beck Bennett
Got those good jeans.
John Daly
Botox or whatever.
Beck Bennett
Yeah, the Botox stuff like that.
John Daly
Yeah, maybe.
Kyle Mooney
So I feel like we should get to the premise of the show real quick. I have one more question.
Beck Bennett
Yeah, I do. Yeah, I do have a question. Well, I'm curious. So, like, we talked a lot about, like, all these characters and these, like, shows that you've. These things that you've made that are like, so just, you know, they've been a part of our last. Our fabric of comedy fabric in Los Angeles and. And outside of it. And like, you've just made so many unique individual things and characters. And I mean, now you're in Fallout. Yeah, we're promoting Fallout.
John Daly
We are promoting Fallout.
Beck Bennett
Yes.
John Daly
So that's great. Check out Fallout.
Beck Bennett
Check out Fallout. I don't fully have the question, but I'm like, you're part of this big show. You're also like, I've known you for making all these and distributing all these characters and these shows on your own. Like, is there, like, do you find yourself, I don't know, at this point, being a part of such a big show, like, balancing those things at all, like, in a way where it's like, is it hard to balance those things? Are you, like, does that take up a lot of your time? Are you.
Kyle Mooney
Is it fair to say you're getting at, like, the split between, like, you're on like a well received show, a watched show.
John Daly
Yeah.
Kyle Mooney
Do you still make time and like, do you enjoy making time for your own or like, how.
Beck Bennett
Because, like, even like in promoting the show, you did that, like, fake talk show, which was really Funny. And like.
John Daly
Oh, thank you.
Beck Bennett
Like, I mean, that's been great. Yeah. Do you feel that push and pull or like, do you want to do more of that stuff or.
John Daly
You know, I wanted. That's all I really want to do. But yeah, I'm pitching shows and stuff and I, Yeah, I. The follow thing's been great because it's just like so huge, you know, and
Beck Bennett
does it take a lot of time to go shoot that?
John Daly
It, I. It, it, it can. Yeah. But not, not insane.
Beck Bennett
No.
Kyle Mooney
Where do you shoot?
John Daly
We shot last season all in la.
Kyle Mooney
Oh, cool.
John Daly
Which was amazing.
Rochelle Chen
Yeah.
Kyle Mooney
Yeah.
John Daly
The first season was in New Jersey and then we went to Namibia, which is insane.
Beck Bennett
Yeah.
John Daly
And got to go to Africa and. Yeah. So, yeah, I'm doing stand up. Come check me out.
Beck Bennett
Doing stand up.
John Daly
Yeah, I'm doing a stand up show.
Beck Bennett
Cool.
John Daly
And yeah, I'm putting together an hour of that for the first time. I've never really done stand up.
Kyle Mooney
Just straight.
John Daly
Yeah, straight up stand.
Kyle Mooney
How, How. Yeah. What's your style? I know that's a very general question. Are you like pulling from your life? Are you being punny? What's do you have?
John Daly
If you were to label it, I'd say I'm kind of punny, but it's really like. Yeah, I love, like, I don't know, like Dave Attell, just people who are funny and.
Beck Bennett
Yeah. That.
John Daly
It's really like there's some stuff for my life, but it's all for the purpose of being an idiot.
Kyle Mooney
Yes.
John Daly
Yeah, yeah, that's. That's.
Kyle Mooney
I do think, like, I mean, I toured this last year playing music, but also like doing some characters and showing videos and like, I am jealous. I feel like that is a goal, like in the sense that like, to get on stage and not have to like put on a shitload of costumes or something like that. And to just be able to talk about that is so awesome. And like, that is why I feel like I have so much admiration for stand ups and it's so smart. It's such a. Like.
John Daly
Right. But you're touring with you and a guitar, right?
Beck Bennett
Yeah, I mean.
John Daly
Yeah, so that's. That's pretty similar. Like, I did. I did an album too and.
Rochelle Chen
Yeah.
John Daly
Put it out and it was. Yeah. I found it kind of like it was tough. It's. Yeah, it's like. It was a bit of a slog. I was like, wow, this is like.
Beck Bennett
There's more production involved.
John Daly
You're giving more than you're getting a little bit. And like. Yeah, I just am Not a mu. Like I'm a musician, but it was just like, man, this is. This is a different world. It felt like a different world. And yeah, like, I. I wanted to go to south by as a musician, so I got like, you know, I did my record labels.
Beck Bennett
Yeah.
John Daly
Show in south by and it was super fun, but I was like, wow. Musicians get treated like comedians. Really? It's like, it's better. It's like, easier, you know, walk on
Beck Bennett
stage, say some stuff, and then you're done. And then you're done. Yeah, exactly.
John Daly
Do you, do you do stand up or.
Kyle Mooney
I, I. My relationship with stand up is probably, like, similar to yours, I bet, in the sense that I would always do stand up shows, but I would do characters. Like, I would do.
John Daly
That's it.
Kyle Mooney
Yeah. I would do like a shitty stand up character or I'd do, like, sometimes I would do this SoCal character that Beck and I used to make videos with or, or just like a bit that I would write. You know what I mean?
Beck Bennett
Right.
Kyle Mooney
Straight stand up. I've done a handful of times. I've never done more than five minutes.
John Daly
Right.
Kyle Mooney
But, like, it's definitely something I, like, think about. I'm like, oh, man. If I could. If I could find the inspiration for, like, kind of what to talk about or how to talk about it, which might come. I just don't have to wrap my head around it.
John Daly
Yeah. It's interesting because that Johnny Doily thing I loved, and I was like, God, this is one of the funniest things I've done. This is great. But it just ended up being like, I don't know if this is good podcasting, but I was just kind of like, I just don't know what to do. Like, I could make like the Austin Powers of, like, you know, but it was just like, I just need to do something. I felt like, because I've just done two, like, similarly like, totally insane characters that are surreal and sappity Tappity and Bill Cosby Bukowski. That went really well.
Beck Bennett
Yeah.
John Daly
But then I was just kind of like, okay, well, I did that and did some videos and I don't know. No, like, what's it gonna be like? You know?
Beck Bennett
Right.
John Daly
So I. So doing stand up is more. It's. It's like I took the last year to learn how to do it and get really confident and.
Beck Bennett
Oh, cool.
John Daly
A couple shows, including a show on Eagle Rock. Relentless comedy every. You know, and I shout out relentless. I'm there all the time, doing it every week.
Beck Bennett
I love the Cauliflower. I mean, it allows you more flexibility. Like, you could, like, be on stage and do Bill Cosby, Bukowski or.
Kyle Mooney
Yeah.
Beck Bennett
Johnny Doily.
John Daly
You can do impressions if you want. You can do.
Beck Bennett
Yeah.
John Daly
And it's just you. And I feel like I've almost like. It's kind of like. It's kind of like Zen in a way, because it's, like, facing yourself. It's like Buddhism.
Beck Bennett
Yeah.
John Daly
And I've discovered Buddhism this year.
Beck Bennett
For real. That's amazing.
John Daly
Yeah. I. I don't think that I'm Buddhist, but I. I went to Japan and, like, we stayed at this Buddhist monastery, and I was like, for some reason, this is connected to stand up. Like, it is like, wow. Just, you know, don't go outside of yourself because it's all in there. And this is, like, too spiritually. It's not funny at all.
Beck Bennett
No.
John Daly
But, like, that's.
Beck Bennett
That's.
John Daly
It was inspiring to me to, like, do stand up and just kind of generate. That's how kind of. I started doing comedy as a little kid.
Beck Bennett
Yeah. Just.
John Daly
Yeah. Putting on little. Just joking around and stuff.
Beck Bennett
And.
Kyle Mooney
And how. How often kind of thing are you over the course of the week, like, crush. Trying to just crush it. Trying to think of jokes or Trying to punch up jokes, or are you now, like, pretty set?
John Daly
They pop into my mind at the weirdest times. And I think, like, I've been like, if you put a concentrated effort into it, I will think of, like, one thing in three hours. And so, yeah, like, this is my work for today. Jesus. And then. But that will cause you to have nine jokes pop into your head later. Just putting the work in.
Kyle Mooney
Yeah.
John Daly
Is a slog. But then, like, you're like, oh. You start making the connections.
Beck Bennett
Yes.
John Daly
In a. In a more fluid way. Like, but they'll come it. You know, first thing in the morning, and I have to go, like. And then it's all your phone.
Kyle Mooney
Yeah.
Beck Bennett
Writing in your notes.
John Daly
Like, writing stuff in your. In your phone and coming up with chunks and all that stuff. But, yeah, David tells My hero, and I think in Andrew Dice Clay and Eddie Murphy.
Beck Bennett
Yeah.
John Daly
Eddie Murphy really is the. The funniest person. I. I. Did you guys ever get to do anything with him?
Beck Bennett
Like, when he hosted for the first time, we were there.
John Daly
The older I get, the more special I realize, like, he is, like, crazy.
Beck Bennett
It really is. He's done.
Kyle Mooney
So you know what I think is, like, an underrated Eddie Murphy performance, maybe. It's actually perfectly rated. But Bowfinger, I think he's so good so good.
Beck Bennett
Bofinger.
John Daly
He is good.
Kyle Mooney
Yeah, I'm. I'm. I feel like our producer is just waving this next segment coming at us. Just, like, forcing it. Just like, you gotta move on.
Beck Bennett
You gotta move on. No. What are we moving to hear more about stand up and Buddhism. But. But we got to move on.
Kyle Mooney
Yeah.
John Daly
Yeah.
Kyle Mooney
So I'm imagining you have a sense of the premise of our podcast, that we're trying to figure out what our podcast is.
John Daly
I listen to Tim Baltz, Great and wonderful, wonderful guy.
Kyle Mooney
Wonderful hang. Hilarious. Is there. Do you have a pitch for what you think our podcast should be about?
John Daly
Well, my. My thing was trivia, and I was like, excuse me, I just did a weird burp.
Beck Bennett
No, sorry, buddy.
Kyle Mooney
But our audience is cool. They're cool.
Beck Bennett
Still a special piece of John.
John Daly
But I was like, trivia can be anything. And I love trivia. I love doing Jeopardy. I watch, like, when I'm with my dad. Like, we watch Jeopardy.
Beck Bennett
And. Yeah.
John Daly
So maybe it could be about trivia.
Kyle Mooney
What I love.
Beck Bennett
We just.
John Daly
Trivia.
Beck Bennett
We'll go trivia.
John Daly
Like, because it can be personal trivia. Like, here's some trivia about me.
Beck Bennett
Yeah, yeah.
John Daly
Like your college stories and stuff.
Beck Bennett
And we could be connecting it to general trivia or. Yeah, I love it. Okay, great. Let's see what happens.
Rochelle Chen
Wow.
Beck Bennett
Dude.
Kyle Mooney
Bennett.
Beck Bennett
You know that's not my name.
Kyle Mooney
What did I say?
Beck Bennett
Brick Bennett. Dude, you. But I'm sure you were messing around.
Kyle Mooney
Just kind of get. Sing songy.
Beck Bennett
That's hilarious. Crime. Wrong. Ron. No. I don't know. Yeah, yeah, kind of. You said my name. I didn't really say.
Kyle Mooney
I have been thinking about. I've had you. My thoughts. Man, that's great. Doing okay?
Beck Bennett
No, no, not really. It's kind of been up and down ever since Broadway.
Kyle Mooney
You know, we have a big show.
Beck Bennett
Yes. Okay, so we're not going to get. Yeah, no good. No, we. Yeah, we got a big show. Trivia is our show. Welcome.
Kyle Mooney
You know you're. You know, you're. If you're. If you're listening right now, you've listened before, which means thank you again because we love our loyal. Our lawyer listeners.
Beck Bennett
Yes. So let's play. Let's play our theme song. Shall or do you have anything else to say?
Kyle Mooney
I just wanted to say, man, it's been, let's see, 22 years.
Beck Bennett
Yeah.
Kyle Mooney
Since we met.
Beck Bennett
Wow.
Kyle Mooney
And you still inspire me.
Beck Bennett
I thank you so much. You still inspire me every day.
Kyle Mooney
I remember hearing that you did Second City stuff in high school. I thought that was amazing.
Beck Bennett
Yeah. I know. I remember you talking about that. I love the way that you grew a beard and grew your hair long.
Kyle Mooney
Thank you, brother.
Beck Bennett
And got glasses, because you didn't always have that. But let's get to the show. Trivia is our podcast.
Kyle Mooney
Okay.
Beck Bennett
That's what it's all about. You told us. Trivia is our podcast. That's what we'll talk about with Beck and Kyle. All right. And we are here with our guest, ladies and gentlemen, the incredible, the hilarious, the brilliant John Daly. Take that bag off. There he is. Look at that entrance.
John Daly
I liked having the bag on.
Kyle Mooney
Yes, he liked it, and now it worked.
John Daly
I think it was funny.
Beck Bennett
That was funny. Like, as soon as you put the bag on and we were talking, it was hilarious.
John Daly
Are we rolling? Yeah. Are we rolling? We're good.
Beck Bennett
For those of you who are watching
Kyle Mooney
the video, John Daly had a bag over his head.
Beck Bennett
Yeah.
John Daly
Oh, yeah.
Kyle Mooney
While Beck and I were talking.
Beck Bennett
Yeah. For.
Kyle Mooney
For the pink. It's a pink bag.
John Daly
It's a pink bag. I didn't read it, but it's got a word.
Beck Bennett
Yeah, it's got a word. I didn't see, but yeah, the bagheads are going to love it. The. Those are the people who love the bags. Yeah. Oh, yeah. Yeah. But the bag is done. The bag is gone. Now time to talk trivia and all things. Trivia. All things.
Kyle Mooney
There's a way. I. We love. We love to start the show, John.
Beck Bennett
We love to start the show this way.
Kyle Mooney
You know, maybe you're prepared, maybe you're not, but I can sell it off.
Beck Bennett
Thank you.
Kyle Mooney
Thank you.
Beck Bennett
I'm prepared.
Kyle Mooney
Yeah, we always like to start off with a little trivia about me.
John Daly
Okay.
Beck Bennett
Yeah. Yeah, we do.
Kyle Mooney
So is there a factoid that you would like to share with our trivia audience about you?
John Daly
About you?
Kyle Mooney
It's about yourself.
John Daly
Oh, about myself.
Beck Bennett
Oh, wait, I thought you said about me.
Kyle Mooney
A little trivia about me.
Beck Bennett
Everybody's got a. I don't have any trivia about you. Yeah, okay. No, but. But you're asking him if he has any trivia about himself.
Kyle Mooney
Yes.
John Daly
Trivia about me. I'm from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Rust Bel. Its heyday was the 1950s.
Beck Bennett
Oh.
John Daly
And then there was a massive migration away from it.
Beck Bennett
But you stayed.
John Daly
I didn't stay. I moved.
Beck Bennett
But not in the 50s.
John Daly
Not in the 50s. I'm. I'm not born in the 50s.
Beck Bennett
No. No.
John Daly
But Pittsburgh's a famous city.
Beck Bennett
Yeah.
Kyle Mooney
Pittsburgh Steelers.
Beck Bennett
Steel.
Kyle Mooney
Is steel the big thing?
John Daly
Steel is not the big thing. Now. It's health insurance, so it Was ketchup and steel. Heinz Ketchup. Shout out.
Beck Bennett
Yeah.
John Daly
And now it's. It's health insurance. One of the best industries. I don't know if you guys have heard about this.
Beck Bennett
I gotta get into that.
John Daly
It's absolutely fantastic.
Kyle Mooney
Were you a Pittsburgh Pirates fan?
John Daly
I was. I was a Pittsburgh Pirates fan, but now they're just. It's. It's like a shell company for a billionaire to.
Kyle Mooney
I've got some Pittsburgh Pirate trivia for you.
John Daly
Okay.
Kyle Mooney
Jason Kendall played catcher for the Pittsburgh Pirates. Jason Kendall, and he is. Was born in San Diego, California. Wow. I went to Torrance High School.
Beck Bennett
That is so.
Kyle Mooney
That's true.
Beck Bennett
That is incredible trivia.
John Daly
That's a far commute.
Kyle Mooney
I think he moved.
John Daly
Okay, so he was living in Torrance.
Beck Bennett
Yeah.
Kyle Mooney
He played catcher. He also played for the A's and the brewers and I was into that.
John Daly
They had Barry Bonds and Bobby Bonilla for a while and it was.
Kyle Mooney
Right.
John Daly
It was like, you know, they were MVP. There's some more trivia back in the 90s.
Beck Bennett
Yeah.
John Daly
And then now they're just like this weird. Remember the movie Major League? Love how the bad per. The bad team is like, okay, we have to purposely lose. Like, that's literally what's happened. It's. That's what's happening.
Beck Bennett
That's what's happening.
John Daly
Yeah. And fans are chanting, sell the team. I don't follow them anymore. I'm a fair weather fan, but I follow the Steelers. And they have this guy, Aaron Rodgers. That's one of the smartest guys.
Beck Bennett
Wow.
John Daly
He's a smart man.
Beck Bennett
And he knows.
Kyle Mooney
He's probably good at trivia.
John Daly
Yeah, he's probably knows.
Kyle Mooney
Do you.
Beck Bennett
Are you. He probably does his own research.
John Daly
He does his own research. He's very good at vaccines. He's a doctor as well.
Beck Bennett
I wait. And he. And he's. And he's what now? He's a quarterback or something?
John Daly
He's a court. He happens to be a quarterback, but he's extremely knowledgeable about medicine.
Beck Bennett
Oh, man. Wow. I would love to. I mean, like. Yeah. Take medical advice from him. And I'm going to look him up after this podcast.
Kyle Mooney
Where do you find out? Do you ever participate in pub trivia? Do you ever go to the.
John Daly
I love a pub trivia night? Yeah. You know, I. I've done it several times and I. I love playing Jeopardy. Watching Jeopardy. With my dad. We're very competitive.
Beck Bennett
Yeah.
John Daly
I don't drink anymore, so I'm not in pubs as much, but.
Kyle Mooney
Right.
John Daly
But I love pubs.
Beck Bennett
Yeah.
John Daly
And that's very English. Maybe they do. They probably have harder trivia in England because people are smarter in general, I think.
Kyle Mooney
I think there is a trivial culture in. In England.
John Daly
Yeah.
Beck Bennett
And they have more history, so. Good. There's more knowledge there. Maybe I don't. There's more trivia, at least to their country at the very.
Kyle Mooney
Now. Does anyone hear. Because I have one.
Beck Bennett
Yeah, yeah, yeah, now.
Kyle Mooney
And you guys can tell me I'm wrong here. To me, like a piece of trivia. Like, it's like an interesting factoid. Is that fair to say?
Beck Bennett
Of course. Yeah.
Kyle Mooney
Okay, I have an interesting. Does anyone have any interesting factoids? Because I got some.
Beck Bennett
I got an interesting factoid that. About me.
Kyle Mooney
I was saying general, but please, I would love to hear one about you.
Beck Bennett
No, no, no.
Kyle Mooney
Come on, let's hear it.
Beck Bennett
No, because I thought we were all going to go around and do one about ourselves like John did. Okay.
Kyle Mooney
So we're all gonna go around.
Rochelle Chen
Okay.
Kyle Mooney
I.
Beck Bennett
In. In eighth grade, I had petite mall seizures. Whoa. Yeah. Took Depakote for four years.
Kyle Mooney
And what is that? Describe that to our.
Beck Bennett
It's. I. I would. Well, wait, sorry. Petite.
Kyle Mooney
A farting issue.
Beck Bennett
No, no, no, no.
Kyle Mooney
I thought that's what you're describing. The other day, I was.
Beck Bennett
Yes, I did have bad gas once where I couldn't stand up, but the issue was farting. Well, I guess the issue was that I wasn't able to fart. And I was so backed up that I went to. Oh, a proctologist and my mom reading magazine.
John Daly
Oh, were you, like, obsessively eating one thing? No, because I went through periods where I'd like, I'm just gonna eat peanut butter, man. And I'd have horrible.
Beck Bennett
I might have gone through. I like, I did love cheese and peanut butter. Yeah. So like. And I would actually have cheese and peanut butter sandwiches.
John Daly
Yeah.
Beck Bennett
So maybe it was like during that time and probably that time and the guy.
John Daly
The guy stuck his finger in my
Beck Bennett
butt and it was like, oh, I feel a little bit better. And then I was able to stand up and fart and poop. And I did not send in the poop samples. Everything was fine.
John Daly
Oh, God.
Kyle Mooney
But I interrupted you. Yeah. So what was it that you.
Beck Bennett
So I actually, it was petite malt. Epilepsy, not seizures. Because it was epilepsy without seizures. But I would come. It would happen every day at the same time after school. I'd be coming home into the kitchen to have my, like, make a snack or something. And I would. The sun would be coming in through the kitchen in a certain way, and everything would white out, and I would, like. Or at first, I would get a. An incredible sensation of deja vu. Like, not just, like, a split second of it, but, like, whoa. Like, just, you know, I'm in my kitchen, so I have been there before, but, like. And then it would start to white out, and I would, like, hold on to the counter and would almost white out completely. And then it would come back, and then I would get a funny feeling in my stomach. And then I would get a migraine, but it only happened for a couple.
Kyle Mooney
Scared.
Beck Bennett
Yeah, I was scared. But then it would, like, start to happen. Normally. I'd be like, it's happening again. And then I went to the doctor, went to a neurologist, and got prescribed Depakote, which is also a mood regulator that was on. Wow. Throughout all of high school.
Kyle Mooney
And that was not because of your mood.
Beck Bennett
No, no, no, no. It was because of my.
Kyle Mooney
And how did. And I feel like you've told me about this before. How did it affect your mood?
Beck Bennett
You know, I don't. How did the medicine. How did the medicine affect my mood?
Kyle Mooney
Yeah.
Beck Bennett
I don't know, because I. Honestly, I was still pretty emotional, right? Not. Not necessarily, like. Not like you do.
John Daly
You weren't, like, smoothed out.
Beck Bennett
No, I was, like, still having.
Kyle Mooney
I mean, when I. When I imagined. Back in high school, Beck was the captain of the lacrosse team. He also plays Jean Valjean and Les Miserable.
Beck Bennett
Wow. I was active. That's right.
John Daly
You're a singer. Like that. That's a hard thing to sing. I was.
Beck Bennett
I learned how to sing throughout high school.
John Daly
Yeah.
Beck Bennett
And I did that. And then I went to college and stopped and completely. Because I was a natural singer, Sammy.
John Daly
I did the musicals in high school.
Beck Bennett
You did. What musicals did you do? Oh, man, this is good trivia.
John Daly
West side Story.
Beck Bennett
Ooh.
John Daly
Big River.
Beck Bennett
Okay.
John Daly
And Big River. You know, it sucks. Yeah.
Beck Bennett
And then I did one called My Favorite Year. Nobody knows it. It's right. I know.
John Daly
My favorite movie.
Beck Bennett
Yeah. Good movie.
Kyle Mooney
With a guy from Perfect Strangers.
John Daly
Yeah, it's great.
Beck Bennett
And the show shows. But, like, the musical's not great.
Kyle Mooney
Yeah, sure.
John Daly
The musical's not great. And then I did. I did. What's it called? Oh, very problematic once on this island, which is the thing about, like, Haiti. But it was all, like. I mean, it wasn't just white people, but it was all white people doing Haitian, Jamaican kind of accents.
Beck Bennett
Wow. Is there any footage of this?
John Daly
I hope not. There is footage of, like, one play I did Online. I also was John Proctor in the Crucible.
Beck Bennett
Yes.
John Daly
Good.
Beck Bennett
That's a big role.
John Daly
That was massive.
Kyle Mooney
That's, like, real. You need some dramatic chops.
John Daly
It was real dramatic chops. And it's crazy that we did it in high school. And I just. You know, when you don't know what real memorizing is yet, like, you have to, like, really hardcore memorize, especially for plays, obviously.
Beck Bennett
Right. Because you don't know how the nerves are going to affect you if you see somebody, you know, in the audience or whatever, like, you need to be.
John Daly
You got to have it in your bones. And I just didn't know how to do it. Yeah. So I was like, I'm. I'm at home. I'm going through this play, and I can do everyone's part. Like, I can really. I'm really memorized, you know, I can. I got. I know all my lines. I know all my monologues. And then I got on stage, and I just. I got through, like, the first quarter of it, you know, really well, and I was like, shit, I'm fucking good.
Beck Bennett
Yeah.
John Daly
And then it was just garbage. And there was one guy that played a judge that kind of knew it, and so he would cue me in very obvious ways. He'd be like, what do you think about that?
Beck Bennett
Oh, my God.
Kyle Mooney
And that's a kid in high school.
John Daly
Yeah. Yeah.
Kyle Mooney
Well, that's smart of him.
John Daly
It was really smart. We needed him.
Beck Bennett
Were you able to get it back on track for the other performances, or were you, like, did it. Did it rock you at all?
John Daly
It was one of those things where the first one, like, the nerves of the first one made it so good. And then I was like, okay, it's good.
Beck Bennett
I'm cruising.
John Daly
But then, you know, it was. It was just ramshackle after that. It really. It really sucked. And I felt bad. But I also was like, people seem to like it, right?
Kyle Mooney
Whatever. Yeah.
Beck Bennett
Maybe it's about just giving the people what they did.
Kyle Mooney
I played Prospero in Shakespeare's the Tempest in high school.
Beck Bennett
Damn.
Kyle Mooney
I pray thee, mark me that a brother could be so perfidious. Whom next might.
Beck Bennett
Kyle would do that all throughout college.
John Daly
Oh, my God.
Beck Bennett
But I do remember, like, me. Yeah. That was so horror, dude.
John Daly
Mark the fuck out of me.
Kyle Mooney
But I. Yes, a lot of memorizing. And I will say there was a kid who came up to me after my performance as Prospero. This is pretty much in line with what.
Rochelle Chen
What.
Kyle Mooney
What you're saying. He's just. His remark to me. He Was a friend. He was a friend. He's like, man, that must have been so hard to memorize.
John Daly
Yeah.
Kyle Mooney
But, like, no. No comment on the actual work or the performance itself. But just, like, that's got to be tough to memorize.
John Daly
Oh, what a.
Beck Bennett
What a.
John Daly
What a backhanded. Yeah.
Kyle Mooney
And that has been going around town,
Beck Bennett
just living his life.
John Daly
Yeah.
Beck Bennett
You got to get him, man. You got.
John Daly
I got a factoid from People are Haters, man. Especially in high school.
Beck Bennett
Oh, yeah.
Kyle Mooney
No, they're. Everybody's like.
Beck Bennett
It's gross. It's like everybody thinks they know what they're up to after high school.
Kyle Mooney
Are the interesting people to me.
John Daly
Yeah.
Kyle Mooney
To the high school people. Those are just, like. I hate to say it, sometimes they're just like lemmings.
Beck Bennett
Yeah.
John Daly
Yeah, man.
Kyle Mooney
Follow.
Beck Bennett
Honestly, it's like, I. So I grew up with you. I don't. I don't have to be. I don't have to. That's all we did. I grew up together.
Kyle Mooney
Like, I'm actually into different things.
Beck Bennett
You're not the judge, jury, and the prosecution.
Kyle Mooney
You don't listen to interesting music right now.
John Daly
Yeah, I'm in. Cool than you. I'm cooler than you.
Beck Bennett
Yeah.
Kyle Mooney
My factoid.
Beck Bennett
What's your factoid?
Kyle Mooney
Is that my mother was in labor with me.
Beck Bennett
We all know that.
Kyle Mooney
On Labor Day.
Beck Bennett
Whoa. We did not know that.
John Daly
Damn.
Beck Bennett
That is a nice factoid.
John Daly
Little on the nose, boy.
Beck Bennett
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
John Daly
Mark me, Mark.
Kyle Mooney
Yeah, yeah.
Beck Bennett
Damn.
Kyle Mooney
You know, Michelle, I'm wondering if you could help us out here. Is it possible to bring up some general trivia questions so we can partake in our.
John Daly
I've got some.
Beck Bennett
Oh, nice.
John Daly
Well, we should bring some up as well.
Kyle Mooney
John's on it.
Beck Bennett
John's on it.
John Daly
We should bring some up as well.
Rochelle Chen
I have some pulled up as well.
Beck Bennett
Now, while we're pulling stuff up for. For people, you know, for. For those of us who don't participate all the time in trivia, like, what do you. What do you. What would you say is the best way to just get involved? Start watching Jeopardy, Start doing crossword, go to trivia night.
John Daly
Oh, I just Google some trivia questions. And, like, that can get you started.
Beck Bennett
I love. I.
Kyle Mooney
By the way, I love going to trivia night. And I did it for a while. I was pretty. Pretty good about going consistently. Haven't done so well.
Beck Bennett
I feel like being like, Structure of it.
John Daly
Group loosely.
Beck Bennett
Yeah, yeah.
Kyle Mooney
Same for.
John Daly
For, like, six months. And then I was like.
Beck Bennett
But was it subscription?
Kyle Mooney
Shout out to my old team Chicken Subscription.
Beck Bennett
Oh, wow. Was. You were in a group for trivia nights?
John Daly
Yeah, I was just going.
Beck Bennett
Going.
John Daly
You never name. Like, let's. Let's hang a place in Brooklyn. God, what was it called? I forgot.
Beck Bennett
But you know what I mean, like,
Kyle Mooney
if you're sort of like, by the way, so you know, in 0 BC, right?
John Daly
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Kyle Mooney
How old was Jesus when he died? Hey.
John Daly
Stupid idiot.
Beck Bennett
That's that. I want to do that.
John Daly
Wait, here we go. I just googled trivia and this is what came the 200 best trivia questions.
Kyle Mooney
Okay. Are you seeing the answers when you look at these questions?
John Daly
Oh, well, I'm gonna ask you guys, so are you sure?
Kyle Mooney
Because I want you to be able to participate. You want to hand it over to Michelle?
John Daly
Maybe you can. Maybe you can. Yeah. Well, let me. Let me just go.
Beck Bennett
Yeah, he wants to ask us some. He's our guest.
Kyle Mooney
Okay. Yeah, sorry.
Beck Bennett
He wants to trivia us and then we can trivia all of us together.
John Daly

Beck Bennett

John Daly

Kyle Mooney

Beck Bennett
Yeah, yeah. Because those people aren't playing. Probably. They probably can't. Unless everybody's listening to the podcast, we
Kyle Mooney
don't know what you're talking about. Can we do. Now Rochelle's gonna ask us a question. Should we have any sort of organ. We ask this to all of our guests all the time. Time. Should we have any sort of organization of how we sort of chime in for our guests, or do we just,
Beck Bennett
like, buzz, buzz, buzz.
John Daly
Yeah.
Kyle Mooney
Is it a buzz?
John Daly
Okay.
Beck Bennett
Yeah. Yeah, I think that's good. Okay. This is fun. Okay, here we go.

John Daly
They're pink and.
Beck Bennett
Yeah.
Kyle Mooney
Buzz Flamingo. I saw Rochelle lift her head like,
John Daly
the flamingos have milk.
Kyle Mooney
I know. I didn't think they had milk.
Beck Bennett
It's got to be some kind of primate.
John Daly
It's gotta be a mammal, right?
Rochelle Chen

Kyle Mooney
Oh, that is cool.
John Daly
How old? That's cool.
Beck Bennett
I think he was. I must say, like, this is like sixth grade, seventh grade.
John Daly
Nice little scan.
Beck Bennett
Yeah. Yeah. What does he do now? He's a beer brewer. Head brewer at Cerebral Brewing in Denver. Yeah.
John Daly
Everyone check out Cerebral Brewing.
Beck Bennett
Check out Cerebral Brewing. They just won two golds for their international IPA and for their hazy IPA at the. the Colorado Brew Beer Cup. Amazing. Yeah, that's great. He's pretty good. He's very good. Are we gonna do another one? Are we just gonna.
Kyle Mooney

John Daly
Don't take it easy on us.
Beck Bennett
And Relle's looking at the computer, trying to find the question. She's. She's scrolling.
Kyle Mooney
She's got a. She's got a finger on a mouth. She's like, this one could be good.
Beck Bennett
She's got. She got. And she's got the hair that she's always had. She's got the ring.
Kyle Mooney
And so many thoughts are going through her mind right now. She's like, wait, did I.
Beck Bennett
What did I.
Kyle Mooney
Did I move the wash over the dryer? Yeah.
Beck Bennett
Leave my front door open.

John Daly
Give us one more chance. Okay, One more chance.
Beck Bennett
Last one. This is worth 3.
Kyle Mooney
This is worth 10 points.
Rochelle Chen
Who was the inaugural winner of the Masked Singer?
John Daly
Oh, God. Ken Jeong. Buzz.
Kyle Mooney
I actually do think I watched the first season of the Masked Singer.
John Daly
Oh, man. Jim Caviezel, the Christian actor.
Kyle Mooney
I know T. Pain did well on it, but I think that was like, the second season.
John Daly
Kristen Chenoweth.
Kyle Mooney
Oh, I feel like maybe Rumor Willis was on there.
John Daly
It's a rumor, dude.
Rochelle Chen
Oh,
Kyle Mooney

Beck Bennett
Yeah.
Rochelle Chen
Has been said.
John Daly
Wait, the name has been said or
Beck Bennett
in response to the question? Buzz.
Kyle Mooney
T. Pain.
Beck Bennett
Yeah. Oh, you got T. Pain.
John Daly
Damn. Way to phrase it.
Beck Bennett
Nice, dude.
John Daly
That's kind of.
Beck Bennett
That's awesome.
John Daly
That nobody could tell it was T. Pain then that he was disguising.
Kyle Mooney
Well, it was like everybody, you know, associates him with the auto tune. Oh, that's singing purely naturally. And he has a beautiful voice without the help of technology.
John Daly
Right.
Beck Bennett
Shout out to T Pain Shout out to T. Pain. I'm gonna track with him coming out in February. Check that out? Yeah.

John Daly
Killer.
Kyle Mooney
Check that out.
Beck Bennett
But so do we have any other trivia that we want to trivia about? I mean, I just think it's really great to sit here and just, like, go over facts and talk about the world with you guys.
John Daly
Yeah, this is great. Who was. Who's the. The guy that did the. Who died in Deadwood. The famous Deadwood death. This is a horrible question. I did. I just took five minutes.
Kyle Mooney
Now we're just doing, like, now we're doing Billy General trivia. We're asking.
John Daly
Not Billy the Kid, but it's. This is the actor Billy Crudup.
Kyle Mooney
Yep.
John Daly
No, it's Wild Bill.
Beck Bennett
Wild Bill Hick. Wild Bill.
Kyle Mooney
Wild Bill Hillcock.
John Daly
That was the dumbest question I've ever.
Beck Bennett
No, it's good.
Kyle Mooney
No, no, no. Here's a little trivia.
Beck Bennett
Here's a little trivia.
Kyle Mooney
Our freshman year, we had a sketch show. The very first. We had a sketch show every semester for our group, Comedus Interruptus. And I wrote a sketch called. I think we. We called it Cowboy Come.
John Daly
Yep.
Kyle Mooney
And it was about a cowboy who collected.
Beck Bennett
It was about a bar or. No. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Wasn't it a bar or.
Kyle Mooney
It was a bar. And, like, I think one of the cowboys said, I want a protein chef that.
Beck Bennett
Yeah.
Kyle Mooney
And. And the bartender has, like, a collection of samples of ejaculate of famous cowboys. And Wild Bill Hickok was one of them.
Beck Bennett
Oh, wow.
John Daly
Yeah.
Beck Bennett
That's how I first learned about Wild Bill Hickok. And there was these cowboys, these tough cowboys drinking come at a bar.
Kyle Mooney
We had to say, I don't. I feel like the sketch didn't perform that well.
John Daly
Yeah.
Beck Bennett
I don't know.
Kyle Mooney
My writing did progress. I feel like those first few sketches I wrote were really bad.
John Daly
This sounds really good.
Beck Bennett
It sounds awesome, man. Protein shake and stuff. Yeah.
John Daly
That was the first name of the Jake Gyllenhaal Heath Ledger film.
Beck Bennett
Oh, yeah. The guys. The guys in the tent.
John Daly
Come, Cowboy. The first name was Cowboy Come.
Beck Bennett
Wow.
John Daly
Yeah. Ang Lee was like, no, we gotta call it Goodwill. No good.
Beck Bennett
Guys, wait. Yes, we. We're gonna find this. Let's find this tribute together. Poison around.
John Daly
Silly, silly.
Beck Bennett
Really good.
John Daly
Roping, roping ropes.
Beck Bennett
Rope. Yeah. Roping, roping, roping. Guys, guys. What is the.
John Daly
What's the movie. That is the gay Cowboy Movie for real.
Kyle Mooney
Brokeback Mountain,
John Daly
first name of Brokeback Mountain was, interestingly.
Kyle Mooney
Cowboy Come.
Beck Bennett
Okay. Cowboy Come. Got it. Well, you guys, is that our time here at trivia?
John Daly
This was phenomenal, I think.
Kyle Mooney
Let's go. Rochelle, can you take us out with one more?
John Daly
Yeah, let's go.
Beck Bennett
Yeah, one more.
John Daly
This is 12 points.
Beck Bennett
I think we could. You know, I really think this could be a. Sometimes I say this. It could be our podcast, but I could. I could easily see this being a segment regularly.
John Daly
Yeah, just some.
Beck Bennett
We're just gonna do some trivia. We're gonna do five minutes, lightning round.
Kyle Mooney
I got a question for the trivia crew right now.
Beck Bennett
Before.
John Daly
Yeah.
Kyle Mooney
While Rochelle finds a question. I feel like I have specialties, so, like, this sector of trivia I could do well at. What do you think you would be best at in terms of. Of this type of trivia? Could be, like, music, could be film. Could be probably sports, maybe film. Yeah.
Beck Bennett
Probably TV and film.
John Daly
Like, we're all kind of like cinephiles, right?
Beck Bennett
Yeah. We'd probably all be good at film to some degree. Yeah. Yeah.
John Daly
Pittsburgh comedy. I'd be good at.
Kyle Mooney
Who and who are those?
John Daly
John Daly.
Beck Bennett
I'd be great at John Daley trivia.
John Daly
I don't know. Like, sports. No. Like world history, maybe. Yeah, that. Not that I know a lot, but I know the things that they add. Sometimes I'm like, you know, the Battle of Hastings, 1066, and it's Jeopardy.
Beck Bennett
So cool.
John Daly
Always on Jeopardy.
Beck Bennett
Yeah. I gotta beef up on my trivia. I. I don't know. I mean, yeah. Tv, film, that. General pop culture, I guess.
John Daly
Yeah. They do the. There's a. There's a pop culture trivia, right?
Beck Bennett
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Kyle Mooney
Joe's hosts. Joe did.
Beck Bennett
Oh, yeah, yeah.
Kyle Mooney
There was a show on VH1 in the late 90s, early 2000s called Rock and Roll Jeopardy.
John Daly
Really?
Kyle Mooney
Yeah. And I love this. Sometimes I'll watch it on YouTube. That was. That was a fun.
John Daly
I bet I could do well on rock.
Kyle Mooney
I bet you would.
Beck Bennett
Yeah.
Kyle Mooney
Watch it on YouTube.
Beck Bennett
You like rock?
John Daly
Maybe a rocking question.
Beck Bennett
Yeah. Do you have a rocking question?
John Daly
You gotta. Yeah.
Beck Bennett
Look up rock and roll, trivia, music, trivia.
John Daly
What's been the closest thing to being integrated into the show permanently besides the bag on the head?
Beck Bennett
I mean, there have been concepts. Yeah. Where I've. I've said this before. I'm like, I could see this being a part of the show. Fashion boys talking about fashion. I actually did have the idea to maybe get a stylist, stylus, for an episode.
John Daly
That'd be fun.
Beck Bennett
And it's like a brand sponsored thing, but it's like she can style however she wants.
John Daly
Yeah.
Beck Bennett
And it could kind of be ridiculous, but we'll see.
John Daly
Yeah, you gotta like when people style you. It's. It feels. You're like, this is cool. And then people are like, wow, you look great.
Beck Bennett
And I'm like, right, all right.
John Daly
I feel weird.
Beck Bennett
Yeah, yeah.
John Daly
But I do like it. I like fashion and to look cool.
Beck Bennett
Oh, it's great. Stylists know what they're doing. I try to do it by myself and it never works.
John Daly
I do not listen.
Beck Bennett
Especially when you try to take your photo on anything of the press stuff and it's like, damn, that looks like I pulled it out of my closet and did not know how to put it together with.
John Daly
Oh, yeah, I've biffed a bunch of red carpets and I had to make like a personal list. I'm never going to do this again. Because I look at the. I looked at the things. I'm just like, wow. It really is important.
Beck Bennett
Yeah.
John Daly
They know what they're doing.
Kyle Mooney
Unfortunately, that's. That's one of the cornerstones of our industry.
Beck Bennett
Yeah.
John Daly
Red carpets.
Beck Bennett
What do you got? Red carpets, man.
Rochelle Chen
What? Friends. Actor jumps on stage to dance a with Bruce Spring scene Buzz.
Kyle Mooney
Courtney Cox.
John Daly
Oh, damn. Damn. All right, one more, one more, one more, one more.
Rochelle Chen
In Risky Business, what song did Tom Cruise lip sync to?
Beck Bennett
Buzz.
Kyle Mooney
Old time rock and roll.
Beck Bennett
Damn. Wow, that's good. That's good.
John Daly
All right, this guy's got.
Beck Bennett
He's going to. He's going to the pubs. He's staying fresh. He's rocking out to me with the chicken quesadilla.
Kyle Mooney
Just take two old rectors off the shelves. You know, we know about Little Elf.
Beck Bennett
Oh, is that right?
John Daly
Tom Cruise has got the underwear on
Beck Bennett
now and the shirts hanging off his shoulders.
John Daly
Oh, boy.
Kyle Mooney
And then he did other movies like Days of Thunder and Eyes Wide Shot two.
John Daly
And then it did a little movie called Top Gun too.
Kyle Mooney
And now he's walking over to you.
Beck Bennett
That is great.
Kyle Mooney
Tom Cruise is cruising.
Beck Bennett
Mission Impossible is John's favorite movie. Yeah, he's got those shades on and those pearly whites are smiling. Ring the gong.
Kyle Mooney
And his name is not Bradley. No, his name is Tom.
John Daly
He's the bomb.
Kyle Mooney
And if you didn't know, this was our podcast trivia show. Oh, this was a podcast trivia show.
Beck Bennett
This one, a podcast. Drew the road.
Kyle Mooney
And if you don't like it, you can blow your load.
Beck Bennett
This is our podcast trivia Show Perfect.
John Daly
Hell yeah.
Beck Bennett
We good?
Kyle Mooney
All right.
Beck Bennett
We good.
Kyle Mooney
That was, that was such a. An incredible suggestion.
John Daly
Thank you so much. Yeah, trivia is fun and it's just. You can do. It's. It's a. It's something.
Beck Bennett
Yeah.
Kyle Mooney
I feel like we did get the promise of the premise. You know, we got to learn a little bit about each of us and we got some general trivia.
John Daly
Yeah, we riffed on it and learned things about ourselves. Yeah, Trivia, trivia. Cast. This could be a good. Yeah, this could be a good cast.
Kyle Mooney
And like you said, if. Even if it's not the full podcast, at the very least a fun segment.
John Daly
Right?
Beck Bennett
Yeah, we could do it at the end. We just like, you know, a little alarm bell could go off. I like that. Like, oh, you know what that sound is? It's time for a five minute lightning round with our guest. Oh, that in the, in the podcast.
John Daly
Yeah.
Beck Bennett
People be like, oh, yes. Buzz randomly.
John Daly
Lightning round.
Beck Bennett
Lightning round. Yeah, we just go through it real quick.
Kyle Mooney
Quick.
Beck Bennett
I honestly could see that being a part of the show. So. Thank you. That was, it was a way to get to know.
John Daly
Right.
Beck Bennett
About all of us. But.
John Daly
But it's better to just keep doing different stuff, right? Yeah, yeah.
Beck Bennett
Like, like, like. What do you mean? Like, as far as people bringing harsh
John Daly
ideas, I think just keep doing ideas or are you eventually going to stick to something?
Beck Bennett
I don't think so. We were talking about.
Kyle Mooney
No, no, we're having. Yeah, I feel like. I think, I feel like we need to have this conversation with each other or with you guys.
John Daly
Got to get real about this.
Beck Bennett
I know. Like, I, I mean, I. It is like just the pursuit of it and it's obviously just like, like people bring an idea and we don't know what's going to happen. But I do think that with these ideas there are. It's like in the same way that we like make a joke and incorporate it or like bring up a character and make it part of other episodes. Well, that is like you can be like, oh, let's do like a little bit of that. That's something we've never.
Kyle Mooney
Yes, that's a really. I like that idea. Cuz I feel like recently we've had some good pitches, like trivia. That maybe that's what it is. Maybe it's like, like not that the whole show becomes this thing, but they become segments. You know, I think of like come part of the. Karen did the like first impressions. I think we had a lot of fun doing that. You know what I mean?
John Daly
Or you have a guest that's like. You have Ken Jennings and it's like, of course we're gonna do it.
Kyle Mooney
Yes.
John Daly
By the way, he'd be a great guest.
Kyle Mooney
That would be amazing. That'd be incredible.
Beck Bennett
Dude. I'm sure you're listening. We'd love to have you on Reach out to the show. Right. Just type that into your computer.
Rochelle Chen
Yeah.
Kyle Mooney
Well, what do you. You got fallout. Anything else? Our folks should check out Stand up Fallout.
John Daly
Checking me out. Stand up. I'm performing all. All over town, Los Angeles. And check. You check out Margo's got Money Troubles. That's coming out soon. That's gonna be insane.
Beck Bennett
What is. What is that?
John Daly
It's a new show with Elle Fanning and Michelle Pfeiffer and Nicole Kidman and Nick Offerman is gonna be amazing on it.
Beck Bennett
Wow. Wow. Cool.
John Daly
And I'm in it and exciting.
Beck Bennett
That's.
John Daly
It is. That's cool. And then. Yeah. Follow me on Instagram, John Daly, Graham, and check out the. Yeah, check out Fallout season two.
Beck Bennett
Well, yeah, I mean, I will say I. I asked. I don't know if we'll probably keep it in the show. I asked you that non question earlier, but my question was kind of like, you. I've known you for creating all these amazing things on your own, but now you're in this. You're in the. Like, I just see you being plucked up and being a part of other people's projects because you are so funny.
John Daly
Yeah.
Beck Bennett
And I don't know. That's just. It's exciting to see that because I think it's like, I can't wait the. For as many people as possible to, you know, fall in love with you and your work.
John Daly
I'm in love with you. And I'm in love with you.
Kyle Mooney
It's been. Yeah. I'm in love with you.
Beck Bennett
I'm in love with you. No, really. Thank you so truly.
Kyle Mooney
I. I feel like. I feel like we've. I've said versions of this all the time, but this is. What is nice about this sort of thing is I don't. We've gotten to hang out, but, like, I've never spent in whatever, an hour and a half with you just getting to talk, maybe.
John Daly
Yeah. Yeah.
Kyle Mooney
So it's true.
John Daly
This is wonderful.
Beck Bennett
Yeah, man.
John Daly
Thank you so much.
Kyle Mooney
Thank you so much.
Beck Bennett
I had a great time. All right.
John Daly
This rocks.
Beck Bennett
This rocks.
Kyle Mooney
And take your old records off. See you guys next time in the back.
John Daly
Hell, yeah.

In this episode, Beck Bennett and Kyle Mooney are joined by comedian and actor Jon Daly for a wild, freewheeling conversation. The trio explores the “what should our podcast actually be about?” format by letting Jon pitch a trivia-based episode. Amid irreverent banter, they delve into trivia games, comedy war stories, music fandom, formative theater experiences, and Jon’s current projects. The result is an engaging mix of nostalgia, comic energy, and a surprising amount of random knowledge.

Notable Moments:
This episode of What's Our Podcast? is a rollicking, multi-layered hang between three deeply funny friends. Jon Daly fits seamlessly into Beck and Kyle’s oddball rhythm, sharing both silly and introspective moments—from the “red milk provider” fever dream to heartfelt reminiscing about comedy legacies and trivia showdowns. The trivia theme—always undercut with meta-comedy—endures as a strong candidate for the podcast’s identity, or at least a beloved recurring segment. It’s a perfect showcase of why Beck, Kyle, and Jon are beloved by comedy nerds: irreverent, generous, and always up for a game.
