Nick Kroll
This is a Headgun podcast.
Beck Bennett
Wow.
Kyle Mooney
Yay. Another episode of what's our Podcast. But first, a little special announcement from Becky and Kyle.
Beck Bennett
This is very big. This is.
Kyle Mooney
It's very huge and big.
Beck Bennett
I think this is life changing for me.
Kyle Mooney
Yeah. That's the way I feel. As long as it goes well.
Beck Bennett
Well, even if it doesn't, it is altering my life.
Kyle Mooney
Yeah, it already has.
Beck Bennett
The big announcement is we are starting a patreon.
Kyle Mooney
Yes. You're saying to yourself, oh, yes, it was.
Beck Bennett
You know, it was a risk. It was a swing to even start a podcast together back.
Kyle Mooney
Yes, it was.
Beck Bennett
We didn't know what it is. We still are finding out what it is every single week when we come together with our guests. And when you and I sort of
Kyle Mooney
mess around on the microphone, let's tell them what it is. For the first tier, Rocco, Basic tier.
Beck Bennett
It's five bucks a month. You're gonna get a bonus episode every week. No guest. Okay. It's just Beck and I doing what we've been doing Since September of 2003 when we first met each other.
Kyle Mooney
For that tier, we have slopping out, which is just the two of us hanging out.
Beck Bennett
It's like our intro to our show.
Kyle Mooney
Yeah. But it's longer. We can go into bits longer.
Beck Bennett
We can also be earnest. Learn about each other's lives.
Kyle Mooney
Yes. Catch up for longer. Or we also have what's yous Podcast, where we take ideas from our Patreon members.
Beck Bennett
Yes.
Kyle Mooney
At a certain tier, at the $10 tier, which is the next tier. We take your ideas and we try that podcast out. Right, but you can pitch those ideas at the $10 tier.
Beck Bennett
Yes. Once you get to the $10 tier, premium rock, which we're calling Rocco Premium.
Kyle Mooney
Rocco Premium.
Beck Bennett
That's where you actually get to pitch the ideas that we will do on our podcast. You're also gonna get access to an exclusive chat. A chat room.
Kyle Mooney
Yes.
Beck Bennett
The Discord. The Rocco Discord, where you can talk with other fans, other listeners. Probably kind of do your own little bits. Make some friends. Maybe. Maybe you can grab. Grab dinner or coffee with one of them sometime.
Kyle Mooney
Also with the $10 tier, you get access to. You get to see our. What we're calling our sillies. Yes.
Beck Bennett
These are little videos. You know, we came up making videos together. Full circle. Because now you and I are just gonna make a little video we already started. Get a little iPhone, make a little video, play some characters, do some bits.
Kyle Mooney
Just come up with an idea and pop it right off and just shoot it.
Beck Bennett
Yeah. We don't need to labor over it.
Nick Kroll
Yeah, exactly.
Kyle Mooney
We just kind of have fun and pump it out to our Rocco's. You know what I mean?
Beck Bennett
I know exactly what you mean. I love it.
Kyle Mooney
Yes.
Beck Bennett
For 15 bucks, you get all that stuff. Plus you get free access to our new ticketed live stream. So, like, we will talk to you directly. You can ask us questions. We'll be doing these quarterly throughout the year.
Kyle Mooney
We might do poppers there. We don't know yet. It's only going to be legal stuff. But we're going to have fun to do poppers. Yes. And here's the thing for Rocket supreme, if you sign up for a full year, you'll get a side headshot of me and Kyle. We don't know, but it's going to be an amazing family heirloom that you get and you can, you know, frame it and put above the fireplace or something or something like that.
Beck Bennett
It is really going to be fun. I think it's going to be a place to see some really weird, wild and crazy stuff where we just get
Kyle Mooney
to do whatever we want without really caring. So. Yeah. So go to patreon.com what's our podcast and join today, please.
Beck Bennett
That's patreon.com what's our Podcast? And be in the Rocco Club with all your fellow Roccos.
Kyle Mooney
What's our podcast? What's it gonna be all about? Tell us what's our podcast? What should we talk about with Beck and Kyle?
Beck Bennett
Oh, oh, Susanna, you're. You're, you're digging up my dirt. And if you don't come over here, I, I think I'm gonna hurt.
Kyle Mooney
Really cool.
Nick Kroll
Kyle.
Kyle Mooney
That was like an original oh Susanna from Kyle.
Beck Bennett
Yeah, that's sort of, that's kind of what I'm getting into. I'm taking like old little tunes and rhymes and melodies and sort of like making them a little more current, a little more 20, 26.
Kyle Mooney
That's cool. You should take, you should like DJ like four year old birthday parties.
Beck Bennett
It's for grown ups. It's for grown ups.
Kyle Mooney
Oh.
Beck Bennett
Because it's a new modern spin on it. So it'll.
Kyle Mooney
Yeah, man, that's amazing.
Beck Bennett
Yeah, so it'll be like you put your left hand in, you take your left hand out, you put your left hand in and you listen to no Doubt.
Kyle Mooney
Oh, that's funny.
Beck Bennett
Yeah, stuff like that. But it's for grown ups.
Kyle Mooney
That would be fun to have at a party. Yeah, that's really cool. You're so. I mean, I really think you're so creative.
Beck Bennett
Oh, I appreciate it.
Kyle Mooney
Yeah. And you're always, like, coming up with something new that people would never even expect.
Nick Kroll
Yeah.
Beck Bennett
Yeah, thanks. I mean, it's. It is a fun little party thing. Mary had a little lamb Little lamb, little lamb Mary had a little lamb Whose fleece was full of.
Kyle Mooney
Say it. Just say it.
Beck Bennett
Nose.
Kyle Mooney
That is really. That's great. Yeah. No, I think you should do this. I think people. People would love to have you at their parties. Do you do it live or is it recordings and you DJ it?
Beck Bennett
I. I go into the studio. I. I record them. I go. I go into the studio and then I press it on vinyl and I bring my records and I mix it up. So it'll be like, Mary had a little lamb. Mary had a little lamb Whose fleece was white as nose.
Kyle Mooney
Well, you're listening to what's our Podcast. That's great, man. I can't wait to see how that progresses. This is what's Our Podcast with Beck and Kyle guest comes in and pitches
Beck Bennett
their idea for what our podcast should be about.
Kyle Mooney
That's exactly right. You remember? And we try it out and we see if it should be our podcast.
Beck Bennett
And. And we just did a. We just recorded a Patreon.
Kyle Mooney
Yes, we did.
Beck Bennett
Which our patreon is@www.patreon.com. what's our podcast? And you know, I did that thing, Beck, I went blue.
Kyle Mooney
Yes, you did. You got nasty boy. You went nasty boy. But as I said, you can get away with it. You're. There's something about you that people. You know, you're sweet.
Beck Bennett
You know, I saw one choice and then, like, I was like, well, that does. Is not that interesting. And so I.
Kyle Mooney
This makes me laugh. Yes. Yeah. But.
Beck Bennett
But it was. But I took. I took a choice that was Low Hanging fruit. Yeah, Low hanging calm, I would say.
Kyle Mooney
Yes. Low hanging calm. It's something. I actually went kind of blue first, but it was more. I would say it was more low hanging. More first thought yours was something that I would. Yeah, I don't think it's a trope of the world that we were in.
Beck Bennett
Yeah.
Kyle Mooney
So I think that's what made it work.
Beck Bennett
Great.
Kyle Mooney
Yeah. But, yeah, you should check out our Patreon.
Beck Bennett
There's always going to be something interesting happen. Sometimes we're making songs, sometimes we're just
Kyle Mooney
riffing, sometimes we're just talking.
Beck Bennett
Sometimes we're taking ideas from our. Our listeners. Like. Like this one. This was a pitch about dogs.
Kyle Mooney
Yes. Yes. Yes. No, but what's. What's going on The. The actual Real World weekend's coming.
Beck Bennett
It's, you know, it's Wednesday for you all, if you're listening, when this first releases. But I gotta say, we're recording this on a Friday, and, man, I am pumped. I remember the old school Fridays because I remember being in school knowing that the weekend was coming. I don't know if you remember that, but it was like we'd get out of school around 2:15.
Kyle Mooney
Around 2:15.
Beck Bennett
And then we'd get on the bikes,
Kyle Mooney
we'd do a show. We'd actually do an improv show around 12 o'. Clock.
Beck Bennett
Oh, you're thinking of college. I was thinking of, like, elementary school.
Kyle Mooney
Oh, elementary school.
Beck Bennett
Yes.
Kyle Mooney
Right.
Beck Bennett
But yeah, we would do our improv shows. One o'. Clock.
Kyle Mooney
Yeah. So I. But I didn't mean to derail you. What, at Friday after school?
Beck Bennett
And then I remember that. And then I feel like it was Saturday, Sunday, and then back on school on Monday.
Kyle Mooney
Yeah, yeah, that's. That was the same for me in Chicago.
Beck Bennett
Yeah. Okay, so that's interesting that, like, the districts lined up.
Kyle Mooney
Yeah. Because it's like you don't always start school and end school at the same time.
Beck Bennett
Right.
Kyle Mooney
In the year. But it's like. Yeah. And like, do we have the same days of the week in Chicago that you have?
Beck Bennett
In some people, Sunday is the beginning of the week. Have you heard this?
Kyle Mooney
I have not heard that.
Beck Bennett
Have you heard this, Rochelle, That Sunday is the beginning of the week?
Kyle Mooney
Yes.
Beck Bennett
Yeah.
Kyle Mooney
Wait, just in general, because I've heard the thing where, like, somebody might be, like, working a job and it's like, it's Sunday, and they're like, it's my Monday.
Beck Bennett
Yes. Right, right. Or, yeah. Or Wednesday. It's like, it's my Friday.
Kyle Mooney
Yeah. And you kind of go like, oh,
Beck Bennett
well, Sunday is, I believe, technically the start of the week.
Kyle Mooney
That is.
Beck Bennett
But I think it's, you know, it's maybe a religious thing that we. That's why we don't, you know, work or go to school on Sunday.
Kyle Mooney
Sure, I understand that, but I've never heard that Sunday is the beginning of the week.
Beck Bennett
Really?
Kyle Mooney
I've never heard this.
Beck Bennett
Yeah, it goes Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday.
Kyle Mooney
Is that correct?
Beck Bennett
Is that I was taught, yes. Monday is the beginning of the business week.
Kyle Mooney
See, you have the weekend. The end of the week.
Beck Bennett
Yes, I feel like.
Kyle Mooney
I know Saturday and Sunday.
Beck Bennett
Yes.
Kyle Mooney
So then the week, you start over with Monday. See, I just, I just think. I think. I think it's the start of the week is Monday.
Beck Bennett
I think you have a valid. You'd be making a valid point. And I think that. Yeah, a lot of places are closed on Sunday.
Kyle Mooney
Let's. Yeah, let's.
Beck Bennett
This is something I feel like we could talk to President Trump about.
Kyle Mooney
Yeah. Because it's like we're starting the week on Sunday when everybody's at church and everything's closed or temple or wherever or where you go, you know?
Beck Bennett
Yeah. Cave. Awkward. The church of awkwardness.
Kyle Mooney
Yeah, yeah.
Beck Bennett
At the cave.
Kyle Mooney
The temple of Kyle. In the cave. Of course, in the cave.
Beck Bennett
Whose fleece was white as a nose.
Kyle Mooney
That's really. Still really good. It hits. But yeah. Okay, weekend. What else? President Trump, we're going to talk to him about the week because I'm sure he'd be down to restructure.
Beck Bennett
Has he done any head gum?
Kyle Mooney
Yeah. Has Trump come in here yet?
Beck Bennett
No, Trump sucks.
Kyle Mooney
Yeah, yeah, that's true. See what he did to the. The pool? Painted it blue.
Beck Bennett
Painted the pool blue.
Kyle Mooney
Yeah, the old. What's that? Memorial. Oh, memorial. Memorial. Yeah. Yeah. Wow. Yeah, he's just like a. He's kind of like a. Like a graffiti artist.
Beck Bennett
Like Banksy.
Kyle Mooney
Yeah, he's kind of like Banksy, just like doing every. Destroying everything, but like not an artist.
Beck Bennett
Right.
Kyle Mooney
You know what I mean? Just kind of like a.
Beck Bennett
Yes. Yeah.
Kyle Mooney
Like a little punk.
Beck Bennett
Yeah, yeah.
Kyle Mooney
Just like destroying stuff.
Beck Bennett
Destroying around us.
Kyle Mooney
Yeah, yeah. And killing people and. But anyway, yeah, summer's coming. We have a great guest today.
Beck Bennett
Oh, my gosh.
Kyle Mooney
This is a big one. This is a big one.
Beck Bennett
This is one that I feel like it's been in the works for a little bit. I remember the first time he was supposed to be here, I had something come up and then you had run into him.
Kyle Mooney
Yes, I ran into him at Disneyland.
Beck Bennett
House of the Mouse, they say.
Kyle Mooney
Yeah, they do say that.
Beck Bennett
How you guys doing?
Kyle Mooney
Oh, hey, Mickey Gorsh.
Beck Bennett
We're not doing bad, Mickey Gorsh. We're on the. What's our podcast?
Kyle Mooney
Yuck. Whoa, Goofy, dude. Donald. The whole crew's here. You guys doing anything crazy this weekend?
Beck Bennett
Oh, well, yeah. Oh, we're gonna go. We're gonna go to the shooting range.
Kyle Mooney
Oh, the three of you, are you. Donald.
Beck Bennett
We're doing it safely, okay. In Vegas. It's part of Goofy's bachelor party.
Kyle Mooney
Oh, wow. Congrats, Goofy. You're getting married. Yeah. Wow. Okay, well, thanks for coming by, you guys. Good luck with the guns. But, yeah, we have an incredible guest. Nick Kroll. Yeah. Wonderful human being. Just like, he's done so many a
Beck Bennett
stand up Sketch performer, Show creator of. Writer. Yeah, creator.
Kyle Mooney
He's been on Broadway and off Broadway and he's created animated shows.
Beck Bennett
He really is like, Yes, I would say a jack of all trades.
Kyle Mooney
Yeah, he's really. And he's just so productive and creates incredibly funny, original, unique material. And he's also just a wonderful person to see around, and I feel like he tries to bring people into his projects and give people opportunities, and it's just a awesome, awesome person. I'm looking forward to talking to him.
Beck Bennett
That makes two of us.
Nick Kroll
Yeah.
Beck Bennett
We say we bring them in.
Kyle Mooney
I say we bring him in. Okay, here we go.
Beck Bennett
Nick Kroll, Have you ever had a thought that just wouldn't leave you alone? Something weird or dark or completely out of character that your brain kept throwing at you, no matter what you did to try to feel better? I've told you, Beck.
Kyle Mooney
Yes, I have thoughts.
Beck Bennett
I have intrusive thoughts. Yes, I. I have suffered from ocd. I've talked about it.
Kyle Mooney
Yes.
Beck Bennett
And I did go through no cd, which we're talking about right now, and it was awesome.
Kyle Mooney
That's great.
Beck Bennett
Yeah. And it. And, you know, had some exposure therapy, learned some things about myself. And these are things that stick with you and make everyday living a little easier. You're not getting necessarily hung up on, you know, these obsessions and compulsions.
Kyle Mooney
And when you. When you started doing it, were you like, I need to do something about this. It's so frustrating. It's getting in my way.
Beck Bennett
Yeah.
Kyle Mooney
Or. And then you found relief, or was it like, oh, I wonder if this will, like, help me at all?
Beck Bennett
I think I knew that there was a better life out there.
Kyle Mooney
Okay.
Beck Bennett
But. But I knew that I would have to do work.
Kyle Mooney
And you did.
Beck Bennett
And you need. And I. You need somebody on your side to help you get through that work.
Kyle Mooney
You know what I mean? Absolutely.
Beck Bennett
And because you got to get to the base. You know what I mean? The base of the problem. You can just cold turkey, try. Try that with anything, Right?
Kyle Mooney
Yeah.
Beck Bennett
But what is. What's really making this?
Kyle Mooney
You really got to understand it to help it go away. Well, I'm glad you figured it out.
Beck Bennett
Yeah, well, you know, I still suffer, but the thing is, I know that I have this resource whenever I need it.
Kyle Mooney
That's great.
Beck Bennett
And it's not as intense as it once was.
Kyle Mooney
That's good. Well, you know, just call me anytime. I'm here, too.
Beck Bennett
I do call you. And sometimes you don't answer. Real OCD is persistent, unwanted, intrusive, distressing thoughts that often get Stuck in your mind. They tend to latch onto the things you care about most, which can bring up a lot of guilt and shame. Then you feel driven to do certain behaviors to try to make those thoughts stop, even though that's not possible. But OCD is one of the most treatable mental health conditions out there. That's got to feel good to hear.
Kyle Mooney
If you suffer from ocd, absolutely. There's something you can do about it
Beck Bennett
if you get the right kind of specialized therapy. OCD needs erp, or exposure and responsive prevention, which has proven to be the most effective treatment. And that's where NOCD comes in, because this is something they can help with. NOCD is the world's leading provider of OCD treatment, and all of their licensed therapists specialize in ERP therapy. OCD is often improperly treated, but no. CD therapists go through extensive training led by leading experts in ocd, so they can know exactly what to look for and how to help. Therapy with OCD is 100% virtual and covered by insurance for over 138 million Americans. Can you imagine getting that help you need and being able to go out through your day in ways that you couldn't before?
Kyle Mooney
That'd be amazing.
Beck Bennett
It also includes support between sessions so you're never facing OCD alone. To learn more about starting OCD therapy with NOCD, visit nocd.com and book a free 15 minute call with their team. That's nocd.com.
Kyle Mooney
are there any 15 minutes? That's nothing. Do it today.
Beck Bennett
I know you can get done in 15 minutes.
Kyle Mooney
Yeah, like a NOCD call. Yeah. This podcast is brought to you by booking dot com. The other day I was sitting in traffic, LA traffic. And I was like, dude, get me out of this concrete jungle. You know, I'm on the freeway, the sun is blasting in my eyes. Really? Like, I don't want. I want to get out of this dry, sunny desert. I want some trees, I want some wet. I want some, like, rainforest.
Beck Bennett
Okay.
Kyle Mooney
And guess what I did because I was distracted. I was actually. I was thinking of Hawaii. Oh, wow. And I got on booking.com and I booked a trip for me and my wife, Jesse Hodges.
Beck Bennett
Oh, cool.
Kyle Mooney
To go to lanai. Nice on booking.com and I can't wait to be there. And I think that maybe if once I go there and I kind of scratch that itch, it's something I'm really excited about. And, you know, my whole excitement just peaked as soon as the trip was booked and I was ready to go.
Beck Bennett
Well, that's great that booking.com made it all happen.
Kyle Mooney
It wasn't even that hard. Just made it easy to do it now. Now I have something to look forward to and to get ready for. Hurry. Go to booking.com and you can book in any kind of vacation you want. Where you can go to a beach where there's food and drinks and you can have a good time.
Beck Bennett
Well, once somewhere gets into your head, Booking.com is a super easy way to get there. Go on, book that trip. It's easy. Booking.combooking.
Kyle Mooney
yeah. Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. Stop the ad read. Stop the ad read.
Beck Bennett
What's going on man?
Kyle Mooney
You look amazing.
Beck Bennett
Oh, thanks.
Kyle Mooney
You look like you feel amazing. It's a whole vibe.
Beck Bennett
Yeah, I feel good. What do you want me to say
Kyle Mooney
for the people who are listening to this? Kyle is wearing a. What I want to say is a matching linen pants and a button up shirt that are linen and they're matching and you look really, really cool.
Beck Bennett
Oh, thanks. Yeah. I just want to say one thing I love about summer is how easy everything feels. And I found myself reaching for the same comfortable going anywhere pieces again and again. That's why I keep coming back to quints. As you can see, they focus on well made essentials that naturally become those everyday staples you actually live in all season long. Quint's European linen pants and shirts are the perfect warm weather upgrade to add to your rotation. Starting at just $34, everything quince is priced 50 to 80% less than similar brands.
Kyle Mooney
Dude, you said said it so well.
Beck Bennett
Thanks man. Thanks.
Kyle Mooney
Yeah.
Beck Bennett
And it's not just clothing. Quince has become a trusted favorite for everything from home travel to everyday essentials.
Kyle Mooney
I gotta say man, like I've always thought you had amazing style.
Beck Bennett
Thanks so much.
Kyle Mooney
Vintage shirts and stuff. But now seeing you in this, do not wear the old this is me,
Beck Bennett
you know what I mean? This is like kind of who I am, man. I just want to say I appreciate you so much back. I appreciate your show. I appreciate you wet Ryan.
Kyle Mooney
It's great to be here on your journey of self discovery, you know what I mean? And like thanks man.
Beck Bennett
I appreciate you.
Kyle Mooney
I appreciate you, appreciate you.
Beck Bennett
I appreciate you. It's been a great, it's been a great life and I'm just happy to be able to do the podcasting thing. You know, I got the Rocco's out there and you know. Yeah, I'm feeling good, feeling easy breeze. You're.
Kyle Mooney
You're in a Quint set. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. You look amazing.
Beck Bennett
Thank you so much.
Kyle Mooney
Look, like I'm telling people right now, like, make your summer wardrobe easier, like Kyle. And go to quint.combackand Kyle for free shipping on your order and 365 day returns. Now available in Canada, too. Kyle. That's. That's Quint Q I N C.combeckand Kyle for free shipping and 365 day returns. Quince.combeckandkyle and you can look like Kyle. Go get the Kyle suit. Quince.
Beck Bennett
Is that what they're calling it now?
Kyle Mooney
I don't know if they're calling it on the website, but it's the Kyle Lennon suit. Go check it out. You're gonna look great. And you're gonna be turning a lot of heads at the next barbecue.
Beck Bennett
There's no reason to look backwards. Look forwards.
Kyle Mooney
Enj.
Nick Kroll
Are you. Do you want to shoot it out there?
Kyle Mooney
I think I thought it would be cool.
Nick Kroll
Kyle is kind of.
Beck Bennett
I don't know. I don't know what that would.
Kyle Mooney
How.
Beck Bennett
What that would do for you. Relle. In terms of, like, I don't think maybe shoot it on a single camera, right?
Nick Kroll
Where we just do it all. Go out there and. And just do this, you know, do
Kyle Mooney
this set one up over.
Nick Kroll
And then we'll, you know, we got all these.
Kyle Mooney
And we'll come up with.
Nick Kroll
Yeah, we'll come up over that.
Beck Bennett
Well, it seems like we figured out the coverage, so maybe we should just sort of, I mean, take these guys off the tripods.
Kyle Mooney
The tripods? Yeah.
Beck Bennett
What's the slang for the sticks? Take the cameras off the sticks.
Kyle Mooney
Yeah.
Nick Kroll
There you go.
Kyle Mooney
Yeah.
Beck Bennett
Yeah.
Kyle Mooney
I mean, that's. That's, you know, we've had a lot of guests, and not one of them has suggested moving all the equipment into the waiting area and doing it out there instead. But that's like, you have this creative brain. You're always thinking, you're always coming up with something.
Nick Kroll
Yeah. I'm always trying to control things.
Kyle Mooney
Yeah. Yeah. And make it. Make it your environment. That's incredible. That's incredible. Incredible. Yeah.
Beck Bennett
And this, by the way, it feels like now we're in it, right? You never know when it's starting. Of course.
Kyle Mooney
Started already. We did an intro. We already talked about you, but yeah.
Beck Bennett
Can I just say it? It's Nick Kroll.
Kyle Mooney
This is Nick Kroll.
Nick Kroll
Yeah.
Kyle Mooney
Yeah. Just in case you didn't know, he's sitting right here.
Nick Kroll
Hey, guys.
Kyle Mooney
Very excited to have you on. Yeah. And that's it. That's all we have to say about that.
Beck Bennett
I want to start back in the day, if I may, Nick, Unless there's. Unless. Is there something you're dying to get off your chest right now?
Nick Kroll
Uh, no, not. Not right now. I'm. I. I'd love to go back.
Kyle Mooney
Okay, great.
Beck Bennett
When?
Kyle Mooney
We'll go back.
Beck Bennett
When Beck and I, after college, we were in an improv or sketch group, rather, called Good Neighbor. We put out videos, and I feel like I first became aware of you, I think, via seeing you live. Nick Rutherford would host a show, the Basement of the Ramada.
Kyle Mooney
Oh, yeah, yeah.
Beck Bennett
It was called Trophy Room and Basement, I think, and. Or Basement Party. At some point he transitioned names.
Kyle Mooney
Yes.
Beck Bennett
Yeah.
Nick Kroll
So that's sort of the end of the anecdote.
Kyle Mooney
Yeah. Our buddy Nick.
Beck Bennett
I don't know. I don't know what era it was, if this is Basement party or trophy room.
Kyle Mooney
Sure.
Beck Bennett
But I saw you perform. You would come in every once in a while, and I'm thinking this is circa 2008. And it was really incredible to see somebody. I mean, I feel like things were happening for you. This is probably around the time of the caveman.
Nick Kroll
Yeah, Caveman was 2007. So it had come and gone.
Beck Bennett
But you were so funny. Confident on stage, owning it. It's like, it felt like. I feel like you're a slightly. A class. Slightly above us. And so, like, it's like, oh, this is what you want to aspire to be.
Nick Kroll
And it was really incredible because I'm 31 now.
Kyle Mooney
Yeah.
Beck Bennett
So.
Nick Kroll
So you guys were probably at the time, like, 27. 28. 27.
Beck Bennett
Okay. Record scratch moment. What the are you talking about? Are you dead serious that you're 31 right now?
Nick Kroll
Yeah, I'm 31 right now.
Kyle Mooney
Yeah. See, honestly, like, okay, because I'm four.
Beck Bennett
I'm almost 42. I was like, okay. Damn, you were older than me. Yes.
Nick Kroll
That's crazy, because I do remember meeting you in two. I mean.
Kyle Mooney
Yeah, that's crazy because sometimes when I see somebody who's like, so talented and. And amazing, I'm like. And self assured. I'm like, they have to be older. Yeah, but you were younger.
Nick Kroll
No, it sounds like I was probably, like 16ish at that point. That's crazy. That is crazy. We've known each other that long.
Kyle Mooney
That is why that is actually fucking insane. I don't know, Kyle. Can't even fucking deal with this. That's.
Nick Kroll
Yeah, I remember that body language from the crowd. You weren't.
Kyle Mooney
You weren't sold.
Nick Kroll
The confidence was feigned very successfully faint.
Beck Bennett
I mean, yeah, you're Faking it.
Nick Kroll
I was faking it. I don't know. I had this experience going to like open mics and starting in New York and then bringer shows in New York. Cause I had also had like a number of years in New York before I came to la. So I got to show up a little more fully formed than if you had been like with me at that open mic.
Beck Bennett
Sure.
Nick Kroll
You know what I mean?
Kyle Mooney
Yeah.
Nick Kroll
And I would like, my family would come to like the Gotham Comedy Club or the Boston Comedy Club, and I'd have to bring five to 10 people and they would all have to pay like 40, $50 for drinks to see
Kyle Mooney
and get two drinks and get two
Nick Kroll
drinks and to watch like truly the most terrible people in New York try to do standup. And then like Jessica Kirson hosting or Ed Helms hosting the bringer. And I would do those. And afterwards, my family or friends who'd come, they were like, they were always like, that one guy seems so uncomfortable. It was really a bummer to watch. And I was like, okay, well, I don't know if I'll be funny, but if I can present confidence, then I think, like, I'll be. I'll be able to survive this. Do you know what I mean? Interesting.
Kyle Mooney
So that hit early on, that hit
Nick Kroll
as an understanding of like, make the audience feel like it's going to be okay and then the chance that maybe you'll get a laugh goes up.
Beck Bennett
But you really don't think.
Nick Kroll
I think I was probably pretty confident at that point.
Kyle Mooney
I wasn't at that show. But we've talked about this and we were doing a show, maybe a. UCB. I forget what show it was. I don't know if we had a show, if it was like a spank show and you had just done an Ed Hardy, maybe. Yeah, boys.
Beck Bennett
Oh, yeah, yeah. It was like a comedy death ray sketch show or something.
Nick Kroll
Sure.
Kyle Mooney
Yeah. And was it just the video maybe? And you were talking.
Beck Bennett
Anyone else. Anyone out there remember CDR sketch?
Nick Kroll
Yeah. This is Priest comedy. Bang Bang. Obviously you guys know this is Aukerman bj. We're still. It doesn't matter. It's not at MBAR anymore. It's ucb, of course. Big time, baby.
Kyle Mooney
But that. We talk about that, seeing that and being like, yeah, you got you.
Nick Kroll
And who presented your.
Beck Bennett
It's like you presented your new video that was about to come out on Funny or Die.
Nick Kroll
Yes.
Beck Bennett
And it was. It was just a couple guys at the height of their powers and it was very fun to watch.
Nick Kroll
Well, and you guys felt similarly. There's. There's those funny people you see along the way who are like, you guys were making the good neighbor stuff and it's like, oh, you guys did feel a little younger than me and felt so funny and like doing your very specific thing. And I was like, oh, that's cool. That kind of. I don't know if it bums me out or not. That seems. Does seem actually cool.
Beck Bennett
That's nice of you.
Kyle Mooney
That's very sweet. That's very sweet.
Beck Bennett
Yeah. I don't want to shit. I feel awkward. Some awkward. I never feel awkward.
Kyle Mooney
Yeah, you never.
Beck Bennett
You're always.
Nick Kroll
When you don't present awkward, it's always
Beck Bennett
kind of like, like you should be on stage and be confident. I was like, oh, I do.
Nick Kroll
I felt like you were, if I'm being completely honest, so confidently awkward. And that's what is your. One of your great powers.
Beck Bennett
I think that, like, what I. What I love about you, and we don't need to just talk about career and professional, but like, I, I want to make sure you get your flowers because you deserve them. And like what I think is so amazing and incredible and awesome is that you do it all in terms of comedy. Like, you're a stand up, you're a sketch performer, an improv. I mean, like you started doing. Did you do improv at Georgetown?
Nick Kroll
Yeah, we were doing improv at Georgetown.
Beck Bennett
And that was with.
Nick Kroll
With originally with Birbiglia and a bunch of other guys who are all super funny. And, and, and then, and then Mulaney was a freshman when I was a senior, so we were doing, we were doing improv, but because we were like kind of the only game in town at like Georgetown, which wasn't. It wasn't like NYU or.
Kyle Mooney
Yeah.
Nick Kroll
Did you guys go to uc? Right? So like there were other people trying to do comedy already. Yeah, yeah, there were like, we had no other. So we had no con. So it was like any acapella fest we would host. You know what I mean? So we had like, we got stage time in a weird way because there was no one else putting their hand up for it.
Kyle Mooney
Got it.
Nick Kroll
You know, which was great.
Kyle Mooney
Were you doing comedy before that or.
Nick Kroll
No, when I got. No, no. I did like a little in, in high school and growing up, I was always like sniffing around it. But like me and my Andrew Goldberg, who I made big mouth with, he and I would like host the Purim talent show at our Jewish day school as like Wayne and Garth.
Beck Bennett
Yes.
Kyle Mooney
Okay.
Nick Kroll
You know what I mean?
Beck Bennett
And which one were you?
Nick Kroll
Sorry, I was Wayne.
Beck Bennett
Okay, so you kind of got to like you were sort of steering the ship.
Nick Kroll
Yeah, yeah, yeah. And Garth. And Andrew is Garth. And it's still like. It's still kind of Wayne and Garth vibes.
Beck Bennett
How is.
Nick Kroll
I mean, like, where Garth is actually the funny one.
Kyle Mooney
He's a little more quiet. Yeah.
Nick Kroll
And Wayne, right? Tries to write Garth out of Wayne's world too.
Kyle Mooney
Yeah, yeah.
Beck Bennett
Wayne got to say Zhang, right? Yeah.
Kyle Mooney
That was funny.
Beck Bennett
That was funny shit.
Kyle Mooney
That was funny. That was.
Nick Kroll
That was fucking funny ass movies.
Beck Bennett
Do you now, this is like a corny thing to ask, but, I mean, that must feel. I feel incredibly lucky and special that I met Beck doing improv in college in Rutherford and. And my friend Dave McCary, who I grew up with, to meet other persons, Bigly and Mulaney, who are like, you know, foundational in the current comedic landscape. Did you feel that in the moment where you're like, we got something fucking special, you know?
Nick Kroll
No, no, I don't think so because I had no point of reference at that point. But I think similar to you guys where you, like, meet and you're like, hey, you're fucking. You're funny and smart like I am. And I haven't really met anyone. I've met funny people and I met smart people, but I haven't met that comm yet everywhere, you know what I mean? Except with Andrew, who I truly knew since I was six years old, like, so I've known him my whole life. And then we sort of went our separate ways for many years. But when I got to college and like, I remember we did like a sketch. A sketch show. That's where Bigly cast me in a sketch show. At the end of my freshman year, I hadn't been in the improv group and I remember going to that, like, read through of sketches and was like, oh, I'm done. Like, this is. You know what I mean? I went in and like, reading funny voice characters and was like, oh, let's fucking go. Like, you know what I mean? Literally from that day forward was like, let's go. And I feel like the advantage of finding other people like you to do that with is so foundational to it.
Kyle Mooney
It really is.
Nick Kroll
But it is crazy that specifically John and Mike particularly are such foundational people in what current comedy is. So it's because they both were really into racism early.
Kyle Mooney
That's great. Yeah, you need that comfort, you know, behind closed doors where people are willing to say certain things.
Beck Bennett
Yeah, right.
Kyle Mooney
Come on.
Nick Kroll
Yeah, you Guys, you guys made friends.
Kyle Mooney
Safe space. Yes.
Beck Bennett
Yeah, we up a couple times.
Kyle Mooney
We take some videos down off the Internet, but it's all good. Yeah, but I feel like. Yeah, I, I don't know if this is what you're feeling as well, but having you here, it is like, you know, talking about the first time. It's like, that's Nick Row. I know. We'll take about the first time that we, you know, saw you perform or doing shows with you. Like we were talking about you before you got in here and talking about like all the stuff you've done. You've created so many high quality, amazing things in so many different genres.
Nick Kroll
Thank you.
Kyle Mooney
Over the years and also have been like, I mean, I, I. Other people say this as well. Just such a, like, what's the word? Like a leader. Like you give people opportunities, you're nice to people. You like, you're kind of like this, like you, you know, cuz you are older than us. Like this big brother sort of thing
Nick Kroll
where it's like, let's be clear, let's be clear.
Kyle Mooney
He's older, we're younger.
Nick Kroll
That was a bit.
Beck Bennett
That was a bit.
Kyle Mooney
But like you're, I mean, it's like so exciting to have you here and be able to talk to you because you are like that older brother who's like, he's like, he's the, he's the guy figured out.
Beck Bennett
Consider you are.
Kyle Mooney
I do say that you're my brother.
Nick Kroll
Yeah. No, and that's why like the bullying stuff I did with you is more like fun. It's all, I'm your older brother. I got to give you.
Kyle Mooney
You got it. I mean, yeah, you would like at ucb, you'd put our head in the toilet. Like cut her nut sacks a little bit. Yeah.
Nick Kroll
Shove shit in her face on the neck. I appreciate that. It's funny because like I am, I'm the youngest of four, so in my mind I've always felt like the little brother. Like that's how I sort of see myself. But now this many years into a career and having sort of done stuff where I have organized people to like make things. It is a. I guess it is an older brother or it is more of that. But it's weird because I am like, I still feel like my sibling's little brother.
Beck Bennett
Right.
Nick Kroll
You know what I mean?
Kyle Mooney
Yeah, absolutely.
Beck Bennett
How do you. Because yes. I mean, like going off the top of my head, some of the amazing things you've worked on Crawl show Big mouth. The other, the big mouth cartoon human Resource.
Kyle Mooney
The other dating season. Oh, the new resources.
Nick Kroll
Yes, yes.
Kyle Mooney
Oh, hello. Show.
Nick Kroll
Oh, man.
Beck Bennett
Oh, hello. Wow.
Nick Kroll
Classics.
Kyle Mooney
Yeah, fucking classics. Bobby Bottle service classics, though. You joking? Rich dicks got me so.
Nick Kroll
Rich dicks.
Beck Bennett
I'm curious, like, you have a family and as. As people.
Nick Kroll
I.
Kyle Mooney
Do
Beck Bennett
people not know about that?
Nick Kroll
Wait, do I? Yeah. Well, no, it's.
Kyle Mooney
It makes sense that you. Because it's like, you're so busy. Like, how do you have time for them? You probably don't even know they exist.
Nick Kroll
I'm happy to acknowledge my family. I'm happy to know my family.
Kyle Mooney
Okay, we can.
Nick Kroll
We can say on the right.
Beck Bennett
Admit there are people out there who are not right.
Nick Kroll
Yes.
Beck Bennett
If you want to be like, sort
Nick Kroll
of like,
Beck Bennett
I am curious. My question is, like, do you like them day to day? Like, are you. How are you, like, every day, like, trying to come up with shit? Are you, like, pretty. Okay, I've got my new project, sort of now I'm just going to put my focus on that. How. How much is the brain working towards material?
Nick Kroll
It's kind of. I have. I really like just going back to college and high school. Like, I was quite a disorganized, like, student. I was not a very passionate student or very organized. Like, I wasn't incompetent, but I was like, not a very productive or, you know, but as I started doing comedy, literally. But from that table read of sketches on, it was like, all right, slowly learning how to organize myself and organize around generating stuff. And so now this many years in, I think I have things at different stages that I am concurrently working on. And I work best in, like, sort of chunks, you know what I mean? Where I'm like, okay, let's talk to. I'm gonna talk to this writer about for two hours now, like, Gabe Liedman, who. I'm writing the show right now that we're about to make.
Beck Bennett
And that's the one with Vanessa.
Nick Kroll
Yeah, with Vanessa Baer, Jason Mandukas and Sam Richardson and me. Yeah, 100%.
Kyle Mooney
100%.
Nick Kroll
And so we're like, well, I don't know, we've been working on that for three years or something. And then we. We got it greenlit at Netflix. And so then that becomes the, like, all right, as much of my day as possible is doing that. But then there's always things that are kind of like at different levels of like, I'm working with a comedian right now on a show idea that we've been slowly crack. You know what I mean?
Kyle Mooney
You're, like chipping away at it.
Nick Kroll
Chipping away. And so I find myself, if I chip away at different levels of involvement on that, there's always something that is. That I can like, really get do.
Kyle Mooney
Yeah, that makes sense.
Nick Kroll
It's not a. You're like, yeah, that's called working.
Kyle Mooney
Well, no, but. No, I mean, like. But Kyle, you're able to handle a lot of things. Like, you've written movies, created shows. And like, we. We started working on something just like very briefly. But you. Like, I thought about it because you were like, let's set this up and talk about it and sort of chip away at it. And we're not like, actively working on it, but that it does, like, just move things forward a little bit.
Nick Kroll
You just kind of keep moving shit down the field. And I work best almost where I'm not solely focused on one thing. Like, if I can have something that I'm really engaged with, but that I am still chipping away at other things.
Beck Bennett
I think I'm the same.
Nick Kroll
My brain works better that way creatively. Because I get exhausted after too much time on one thing, but I'm not exhausted to then talk about something else.
Beck Bennett
I also feel like. And this could be wrong, but like, keep a lot of things going. You never know what is going to be the thing.
Nick Kroll
That's the thing.
Beck Bennett
If you focus too hard on that one thing.
Nick Kroll
Yeah. Like, the first thing I ever did was like, the first, like. I don't know. I graduated. We all went to Georgetown. I graduated, but bigly was like, immediately on Letterman. You know what I mean?
Kyle Mooney
Like, it was just like.
Nick Kroll
And had an office. It was like, what the.
Kyle Mooney
He's set. Yeah, he got the one.
Nick Kroll
He got. He got us, but he got the one. Some. But I was just like. He was like, touring and I was like, what is. You know what I mean? And I booked like a mtv. You know, it was in the days in New York in those early 2000s, like, MTV VH1 was all just like prank shows. Like, cheap. Like, hey, around with someone. But we. I booked it and it was to go down to MTV Spring break.
Kyle Mooney
Remember when it was like, my God,
Nick Kroll
it was cool at that point. Yeah, it was post like, Eric Nice. But like, you know, whatever. It was cool. And we went down to shoot like a prank show. And I did a few pranks and they went like, bad. They were pretty boring and bland and, like, didn't really work. Yeah, it was like, you're an asshole bouncer outside of a club in Miami, and it's like, no matter what I say, if Like, a bouncer can just be mean to people, and they're just like, fair enough. Right. They really just sort of take it, you know? And anyway, I shot it and I wrote an email to, like, everyone I knew being, like, FYI, not even a big deal, but I'm probably going to be on MTV spring break this weekend. You might want to check it out.
Kyle Mooney
Great.
Nick Kroll
And I was driving back down to Georgetown with, like, the little man. The improv group that I had been with, we had all graduated, moved to New York, and we're doing improv in New York, going back down for, like, a Georgetown, like, reunion show at their, like, improv fest.
Kyle Mooney
Yeah.
Nick Kroll
And I got the call from the producer or whatever that all of my. My bids had been cut.
Kyle Mooney
It's all gone. It's all gone. None of it.
Nick Kroll
We even deleted the files. Like, it's gone. And I just remember one just feeling so deeply embarrassed and so pissed off about it. And then also just, like, nothing is done until it's out and done.
Kyle Mooney
Right.
Nick Kroll
And so, like, you have to keep multiple things moving because you can never bet that the thing you have is
Kyle Mooney
gonna, like, do anything for you. I mean, but that's, like, it's really healthy because we talked about this. Like, when you have something that you're excited about, you know, and, like, whether it's a sketch every week at SNL or something that you're in or something you made, it's like, it's rarely going to do the thing that you have. The fantasy that you have in your mind, like, this is gonna open a lot of doors and make everything easier for me. Like, no, it might just.
Beck Bennett
I'm about to go fucking viral.
Nick Kroll
I can't believe.
Kyle Mooney
Yeah, I can't believe it.
Beck Bennett
In two days, I'm gonna be viral.
Nick Kroll
Totally. Yeah. And it tends when I think that you're gonna also genuinely go viral there.
Beck Bennett
Right. I mean, like, also, I feel like you touched upon this. But. And we've talked about versions of this, too, but, like, seeing your friends succeed, it's always that funny thing of, like, you know, you're. You're seeing Birbiglia get this job. Like, you sort of have to balance that thing of being happy, but also, like, you're probably jealous inside. You know what I mean? Yeah. And, like, kind of how that.
Kyle Mooney
What are the chances that we're both going to do well and succeed, have a career?
Nick Kroll
Sure. But also, like, I will say, you know, having people. Someone described it to me recently as like, my. I think it was my wife who I Acknowledge publicly.
Kyle Mooney
That was. That's brave, actually.
Beck Bennett
Really fucking cool.
Nick Kroll
So. But my wife Lily was like, being like, like, who are your running partners? Like, who are you running with? Like, and like, you know, to like, who you'd be keeping pace with. So, like, it is crazy to, in the case of like, John and Mike, you know, and John and I also really, having worked closely together, to be like, have that be your fucking running partner.
Kyle Mooney
Yeah, that's crazy.
Nick Kroll
And I'm setting pace for you. And I feel like the same for you guys. Even though you're in a group together, you just, like, you always just want to. You want to be as funny as the person you're working with. And so it makes you. If you're the person you work with closely on anything is funny. Same with like, absolutely. When I was doing those things with Daily where I was like, jesus, when we're doing Ed Hardy Boys or Rich Sticks, we were like this, you know, this is funny. So, like, I have to figure out how to also be good. It's not like competition, but it is. It is like, I gotta get better.
Kyle Mooney
Yeah, it is. That is a really smart thing to just surround yourself with funny people and keep up with them always. As opposed to being like, I'm the funniest. And what I think is funny is.
Nick Kroll
No, I've always tried to. You tried to gather funnier people than me.
Kyle Mooney
Oh, I think that's. That's part of the reason why people, like, I don't know, see you as a leader or like, you are so funny because you bring people around you. You, maybe you learn from them. But there's something, some random thing I saw on Wikipedia, which maybe you're asked
Nick Kroll
about pod tellers as a pod teller.
Kyle Mooney
Oh, I like that a lot. Yeah.
Beck Bennett
Sorry, but that could be on your wiki too. Yeah, yeah.
Nick Kroll
Pod teller.
Kyle Mooney
You said that Cave. The. The caveman show. What is. What was it called?
Nick Kroll
It's called Cavemen.
Kyle Mooney
You said that was the most important professional experience of your life. Uh huh. Is that serious? I mean, because I could see that being true.
Nick Kroll
I mean, I think, like, similar to the story about the MTV thing, Caveman was like, you know, I had started coming to LA to like go on auditions. Like, I came for a pilot season. I lived in the Oak woods with all the kids in like the, you know, the complex and all that stuff.
Kyle Mooney
Yeah. I thought it was only families and kids.
Beck Bennett
Like, it was.
Kyle Mooney
Yeah.
Nick Kroll
And then they. They let me live there for a little while. I weirdly did sublet my apartment in the. From A cruise ship comedian. Oh, and you're not allowed to own. He somehow was not allowed to sublet, but he had. He lived in the Oakwoods full time.
Kyle Mooney
Wow.
Nick Kroll
Except when he wasn't doing cruise ship comedy.
Kyle Mooney
Right.
Nick Kroll
He was kind of a dick. And I eventually was, like, mad at him because I couldn't. My door would lock. And he's like, you can't go to the front desk to get a key because you're illegally subletting. So I would, like, crawl up the balcony on Barham, you know, like, the Oak woods are on Barham, so it's just like soot covered balcony climbing up to get into my thing. And I was like, so pissed.
Kyle Mooney
Because you lost your key or something.
Nick Kroll
Yeah, because I lost my key. You can't go to the front desk. So anyway, I came to LA for that pilot season and I went on. You know, I'd finally gotten an agent to, like, put me out of shit. Went for a bunch of stuff, and then, like, the last thing I went on was Cavemen.
Kyle Mooney
Yeah.
Nick Kroll
And. And I booked it. And that same audition, like, that's where I met, like, Ike Barinholtz. Like, he and I were both in, like, the callback for it and both, like, in this, like, crazy prosthetic. And. And I booked that show and we shot the pilot and whatever. And so that was like. That was like. To go to the. The time when, like, up fronts were, you know, like, you'd go to up fronts, you go pilots and then you would go to up fronts, then you start shooting it.
Beck Bennett
Are you in makeup or out of makeup at the upfront?
Nick Kroll
I was not in makeup at the upfronts, I don't think. Thank fucking God. But I shot that show. It was. It was. It was the hardest job. Just because it was fucking brutal. Like, four hours of makeup every morning, every, every day. And they were shooting it like purely single camera. Not like, we'll shoot it, you know, like. Like the Office hadn't come out yet, so there wasn't the idea that, like, we could cover a lot of shit at once. You know what I mean? So we were just doing like 90 hour weeks, and I had no idea that TV didn't have to be that. You know what I mean? So I just. You just. And we had a. It was like a 13 episode. We had one hiatus week and it was great. And I learned how to act. I mean, I just, like, learned how to act every day. I'd never been. Until that point. I'd been in, like, commercials for a day or Two or the shit that we were making ourselves. But, like, you know, even the first time you get on, like, a set and you're like, oh, this is how this works every day.
Kyle Mooney
Right?
Nick Kroll
There's a lot to learn.
Kyle Mooney
Yeah.
Nick Kroll
But also, I'm so glad it was the first job because it would have. I don't know. How do you guys. How did you guys take prosthetics on snl?
Kyle Mooney
Pretty. Pretty well. I feel like prosthetics were fine. The hair bothered me.
Nick Kroll
Yeah, well, you got a fucking head like that, it's hard to hide it.
Kyle Mooney
Yeah.
Nick Kroll
You know what I mean?
Kyle Mooney
Really hard to hide it.
Nick Kroll
You got to talk to modern mammals because I feel like Pete Holmes might bring you in to do some collabs on that shampoo.
Kyle Mooney
I would love to collab on modern mammals. I love shampoo. I love hair, and I love just, you know, like, being a part of the community and getting people products.
Nick Kroll
The hair community or.
Kyle Mooney
Yeah, the hair.
Beck Bennett
And I just want. I want to shout out, my boy is being very earnest. Right? Like, he actually is really into this shit. So please, modern mammals. We would love that for my boy.
Kyle Mooney
Yeah. And Kyle, like, he's got luscious locks, but, you know, he. He's more. He likes it. He likes to talk about the pubes a little bit more. And so, like, you know, maybe you could get on some of that stuff.
Beck Bennett
Yeah, maybe I could do some more pube stuff.
Nick Kroll
Yeah. What is the story with your pubes? Do they.
Kyle Mooney
What is this? Yeah.
Beck Bennett
Will you tell us?
Nick Kroll
No, no, let's go with your pews.
Beck Bennett
Well, there's Tiny Tim. Yeah.
Kyle Mooney
They all have names. Yeah. Curly Cube.
Nick Kroll
That's. Yeah, they're all ingrown. They're all infected.
Beck Bennett
No, no, they're. They're. They're a funny bunch.
Kyle Mooney
They're a funny bunch of pews.
Beck Bennett
I'm still finding them around all the time.
Kyle Mooney
Yeah.
Beck Bennett
I don't know what. I don't know what to say about it. I. I immediately thought about the fact that, like, I am hair, I am hairy. And like, my daughter is. She still uses a straight razor, a pacifier, in the. In the evening. That's cool. And, like, she's constantly finding hair. She's like, I got hair.
Nick Kroll
And I'm like. And is it you? Right.
Beck Bennett
I think it's probably.
Nick Kroll
Yeah. I think it might be yours.
Beck Bennett
Yeah. Do you brush your hair seldomly to get out knots?
Nick Kroll
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. You ever did.
Beck Bennett
You had long. I feel like I've seen pictures of.
Nick Kroll
No, no.
Beck Bennett
Did you ever have dreadlocks I did for a movie. Like, slight, like.
Nick Kroll
Okay.
Kyle Mooney
But not. Not on your own. In. In the old. In your.
Beck Bennett
Yes.
Kyle Mooney
Yeah.
Beck Bennett
But no, I never, like, fully committed to.
Nick Kroll
I did for 10, 15 years. You had dreadlocks from 7 to 17.
Beck Bennett
7.
Kyle Mooney
He's out of here. Real dreadlocks. Yeah.
Nick Kroll
Like, I dreaded my hair when I was seven years old. I was the coolest kid in my.
Kyle Mooney
I mean, I believe. I believe that back in the day it would be.
Nick Kroll
It was like a 7 year old at Solomon Schechter. I got a full head of dress. I was the. I was the youngest. I was the fourth. So I was exposed to all different
Kyle Mooney
kinds of stuff, you know. Incredible.
Nick Kroll
Yeah, but I was. I mean. Yeah. My. My brother. It's so funny, I think about, like, being young in the 80s, and like, my brother was in like classic rock. Like, you know, he was. He had so, like Led Zeppelin, like, like that era of like. And I was. This is a weird tangent, but I was. That was like 1988. I was like 10 years old.
Kyle Mooney
Yeah.
Nick Kroll
And he was listening to like, the Doors or like, you know, the Beatles. Yeah. Putting out music 20 years before.
Kyle Mooney
Yeah.
Nick Kroll
And I was like. And that was classic rock. And I'm now, like, realizing that, like, Britney Spears and all of those bands came out longer ago than when I was listening to that classic rock.
Beck Bennett
Yeah.
Nick Kroll
Does that make sense?
Kyle Mooney
Yes. Yeah.
Nick Kroll
And it was like, that's crazy that that's what we got.
Beck Bennett
Well, it's like. Yeah. There are so many people who could say more articulate and interesting things based on that idea. But, like, I feel like the evolution between, like the 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s, it's like once we get into like the early to mid aughts, like, there hasn't been much movement.
Kyle Mooney
Yes, correct.
Beck Bennett
So it doesn't feel as far away
Nick Kroll
to like, hey, man, the hippies. Yeah.
Beck Bennett
You know, that felt like a whole nother thing. Totally.
Nick Kroll
Versus, like, no music. Kind of feels like it kind of stopped around 2000, like on some level.
Kyle Mooney
Right.
Nick Kroll
Like, there's been no major innovations. And you could argue Even the 90s, like, even like grunge, maybe like proper rap, hip hop evolved into like a proper
Kyle Mooney
new art form. Yeah. Well, I mean, is it just because there's like so many different styles and artists and they're, you know, put out in so many different ways that there's not like one style that has having such a major.
Beck Bennett
Yeah. Tell us how.
Kyle Mooney
Yeah. Is it because of the Internet and technology? We're like.
Nick Kroll
Yeah. No, I actually think That's a great way to describe it. It's like, just based on and the Internet and, like, what that's provided. And Napster really changed the game in a big way.
Kyle Mooney
I mean, like, think about all the music.
Nick Kroll
I know. No, it is crazy when you think about all of it so much. Are you guys psyched about the Spotify thumbnail rebrand?
Kyle Mooney
I don't know about it.
Beck Bennett
It looks like. Is it a balloon?
Nick Kroll
It looks like a. When I realize it's a disco ball, but it's unclear what it is, I
Beck Bennett
kept on seeing it as, like, a foil balloon celebrating its birthday.
Kyle Mooney
Yes, it's foil balloon.
Nick Kroll
Yeah. Yeah. Foil balloon.
Kyle Mooney
Yeah.
Beck Bennett
I'm feeling like it's temporary.
Nick Kroll
It is. I saw an article that said they're already retreating.
Kyle Mooney
Thank God I wrote it.
Nick Kroll
Well, I programmed. I get a prompt to AI to write it for Collider.
Kyle Mooney
Did you. Wow. That you're so prolific.
Beck Bennett
I'm just trying to, like.
Nick Kroll
I'm just like. I just can't stop, you know?
Kyle Mooney
Is that what's next for you is writing AI articles?
Nick Kroll
AI articles for content farms.
Kyle Mooney
Yeah. That's amazing.
Nick Kroll
So it's just a great way to keep them brain moving and stay active and part of the community.
Kyle Mooney
Yeah. That's really cool.
Beck Bennett
Cool.
Kyle Mooney
I did think of a question for you that I haven't asked because we're trying to figure out what our podcast should be about.
Nick Kroll
Yeah.
Kyle Mooney
And you're somebody who have a lot of things figured out. I was wondering if there's anything in your life that you're trying to figure out. Oh. Like if you're like, I can't really figure this thing out. It could be small, too.
Nick Kroll
Yeah. I mean, I guess, like, finding some modicum of peace.
Beck Bennett
Yeah.
Kyle Mooney
Yeah.
Nick Kroll
Peace within yourself or within myself, you know, but also the world around me. It'd be great if we could.
Kyle Mooney
And so I don't want to get too specific. I don't want to invade your personal space too much, but is that like balancing personal with work? Is that just like sort of an existential dread based on everything that's happening?
Nick Kroll
I mean, it's the. The. There is the existential dread for every the way where we are in the world, which I would say everything feels more crackly right now than in any time in my life. Like, I'd say, generally speaking, though, everyone seems to be operating at a frequency well above what they've ever felt just in their vibe.
Kyle Mooney
Yeah.
Nick Kroll
So that. Yes. That sort of. I'm. I'm. I'm sort of thinking about that Sometimes.
Kyle Mooney
So, yeah, that comes every day.
Nick Kroll
So that kind of comes up for me.
Kyle Mooney
Anytime I have some sort of accomplishment, I'm like, doesn't matter, because we're all not going to.
Nick Kroll
It's all going to be gone or feeling good and. Yeah.
Kyle Mooney
And then you look at your children, you're like, I guess jobs aren't going to exist. They're older. Yeah.
Nick Kroll
I mean, I can think about college, but, like, what will college or life
Kyle Mooney
be for when we don't have water?
Nick Kroll
Yeah.
Beck Bennett
Yeah. Yeah.
Nick Kroll
So sometimes I think about that or I look into other people's eyes and I see that fear and sadness in their eyes. So sometimes I think about that.
Kyle Mooney
Well, I hope you figure that out.
Beck Bennett
Do you have a hobby to combat those feelings?
Nick Kroll
You know, I don't have any real hobbies, and so it's something that I've probably thought about that should be helpful. Like, I was watching basketball last night, and I was like, oh, that. That felt good to like, yeah. Like, I mean, we're in the middle of the playoffs, but I was like, oh, that felt actually very useful, which I kind of fell off of. Watching Sports for Leisure, I just got
Kyle Mooney
back into it watching the Bears.
Beck Bennett
Got back into it a few after. After snl, I got. I finally, like, kind of had.
Nick Kroll
I felt like I. Yeah, you don't have. I mean, I don't feel like I have space for it, except that I'm like, no. It might just be a time to like. Because I feel like when you have kids and you're working, you just. You're cranking from the beginning of the day till the end of the day, doing one or the other.
Kyle Mooney
Right.
Nick Kroll
How it feels.
Kyle Mooney
And it feels like the. The. The time I do have available, it's like, well, how can I make his life better?
Nick Kroll
Yeah.
Kyle Mooney
Or how can I be a better parent? Like, what? Kind of like, you know, oh, I've
Nick Kroll
never thought about it. Or like.
Kyle Mooney
Like doing something. Like, I'm doing, like, something in my garage and making it, like a. Like a play space for him. And you know what I mean? It's like, then my brain goes there, but it's like, that's not like a hobby. That's just more work.
Nick Kroll
Yeah. That's just more things to think about and do.
Kyle Mooney
Kyle's good about having hobbies and, like, giving his.
Nick Kroll
Kyle's good about just completely blocking out, like, what his family's experience is.
Beck Bennett
Yeah, I'm sure people have said that. Yeah. Yeah. I was going to suggest.
Kyle Mooney
Yeah. I said, that's what you did yesterday at Coffee.
Beck Bennett
I was going to say we could do. You know, we don't. We. Beck and I do occasionally with Nick Rutherford and Dave sometimes.
Kyle Mooney
Yeah.
Beck Bennett
But we go to the Los Feliz Three.
Nick Kroll
Oh, yeah.
Beck Bennett
A little part.
Kyle Mooney
A little part three.
Beck Bennett
I don't golf, but that's. Yeah, that's probably the only time I golf and. Or play golf, I should say.
Nick Kroll
But you just like walk around for.
Beck Bennett
Yeah. You catch up and if you want, sometimes you can sneak a talking.
Kyle Mooney
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Beck Bennett
That's a good leisure activity.
Nick Kroll
That is a nice idea. I. I feel like you want to
Beck Bennett
go out with us.
Nick Kroll
I would love. I genuinely love to.
Kyle Mooney
That'd be a lot of swinger style.
Nick Kroll
Well, yeah.
Kyle Mooney
Maybe they go there in the movie Swingers. They do, yeah. Yeah. We say like, you're so money, baby. And like, how many days do you wait to call your baby?
Nick Kroll
Yeah, no, I love. And I. That's why. That's why I started working at the Dresden. Because they shot the Dresden there. So I've worked. That's why I started busing tables there.
Kyle Mooney
That is so incredible.
Nick Kroll
Like, congratulations. I still haven't run into Vince, not even once.
Beck Bennett
You're still there.
Kyle Mooney
I don't still there that.
Beck Bennett
I feel like that's one thing you could take off your plate.
Kyle Mooney
You think so? Yeah.
Nick Kroll
But I love the vibe there. It's just like. It's like swingers.
Kyle Mooney
Yeah.
Beck Bennett
It's similar to Swingers.
Kyle Mooney
It's so fun for your family when you're going to cheer shift and. Yeah, I gotta go. I can't be here for dinner.
Nick Kroll
Yeah. I'm not there for bedtime or dinner or any of it because I'm just, you know, I'm over there and I'm. And I'm not again. I'm still sort of volunteering. I'm interning there. So I'm not getting even paying for it. But. But it's been a great place to network and meet people who also love the movie Swingers.
Kyle Mooney
That's. I. That makes perfect sense.
Nick Kroll
It is such. So that, I guess is my hobby. I guess that's it. I did wash dishes for a couple summers when I was younger, which was.
Kyle Mooney
Did you really?
Nick Kroll
Yeah. Which was not fun. Couldn't charm. Can't charm a dish. Cannot.
Kyle Mooney
Kitchen vibe. Kitchen cultures can be intense.
Nick Kroll
You guys. You know what show you gotta watch is the Bear.
Kyle Mooney
Oh, yeah.
Beck Bennett
Yes, I know that guy.
Nick Kroll
It's a bunch of people working a
Kyle Mooney
restaurant and it gets pretty intense. Yeah.
Nick Kroll
No, that's the thing. What you don't know is when you go back.
Kyle Mooney
Yeah. Shit gets crazy back and I'm like, it's just food, right?
Nick Kroll
No, but it's like, it's like these people are obsessed with it.
Kyle Mooney
Yeah. They get all upset and anxious.
Beck Bennett
I'm sorry, what is this show?
Nick Kroll
It's called the Bear. It's not the Bear.
Kyle Mooney
It's called the Bear.
Nick Kroll
Yeah.
Kyle Mooney
Yeah.
Nick Kroll
So you should check it out. Because it's like. Because we go to restaurants. Right. But like, we've never, like, always eating. I know. So then you're like, but what's it like?
Beck Bennett
What's, what is the. Holy shit.
Nick Kroll
Check it out, though.
Kyle Mooney
Check out the Bear on fx. None of us are involved in it.
Nick Kroll
Truly. And so genuinely pissed about it.
Kyle Mooney
Yeah, absolutely pissed.
Beck Bennett
Shout out everybody involved in the.
Nick Kroll
Everyone involved.
Kyle Mooney
Shout out everybody.
Nick Kroll
Shout out, by the way. Everybody. Everywhere. For real. So I'd like to find some modicum of peace. I'd love to play A Part 3. Sounds fun. That sounds like a fun. I need a. Because I would love to have an activity that I don't care about how I do.
Beck Bennett
Yes. That is the secret.
Nick Kroll
Yeah. And I feel like on that small of a course, like, you can't, you can't.
Kyle Mooney
Yeah.
Nick Kroll
You can't slice it to high hell.
Kyle Mooney
Every show there's trees everywhere. So it's not like, yeah, and you.
Beck Bennett
And you. But you also improve. Do you know what I'm saying?
Kyle Mooney
Yeah.
Beck Bennett
And like, that is the difficult thing with doing what we do. Like, you, you have these perfectionistic attitudes of like, it needs to be here. Like, that set wasn't as good as this set or whatever. But like, when you're fucking truly shitty at something you only can build and it's, it actually has a similar level of excitement as like, I had a good show last night.
Nick Kroll
Yeah, yeah, Yeah.
Beck Bennett
I did good.
Nick Kroll
I fucking played pretty well today. Yeah, I, I, I would, I do, I guess hike. But I've really, honestly, like, I feel like I used to have a lot more freedom to have, like, that time to be, to do out. And I'm like, that is the crazy thing about being a parent is like, you just have to figure out how to schedule your time in just such
Kyle Mooney
a different way and finding it's like pockets of time to do nothing.
Nick Kroll
Yes.
Kyle Mooney
And sort of like allow your brain to be like. Just come up with, like, what. How do I want to spend my time?
Nick Kroll
Yeah.
Kyle Mooney
In a way that is not necessarily productive.
Nick Kroll
Yeah. Or fucking Jazz off to the Knicks.
Kyle Mooney
Yeah. Yeah. Jazz. Yeah.
Beck Bennett
That's your team.
Nick Kroll
Yeah, that's my team. I'm a Knick fan. I jazz off to the Knicks.
Kyle Mooney
Oh, it's confusing because there's a. There's a jazz.
Beck Bennett
Utah Jazz. And you like jazz.
Nick Kroll
I love jazz and I genuinely love jazz music. And there's the Utah Jazz. Yes, but I like to jazz.
Kyle Mooney
You like to jazz off to the Knicks.
Nick Kroll
To the Knicks.
Kyle Mooney
Which is my nickname written for your team.
Nick Kroll
Yes. And we put the K from Kroll at the front.
Kyle Mooney
Oh, so that's the Knicks.
Nick Kroll
That's how I came up with the name.
Kyle Mooney
That's incredible.
Nick Kroll
Yeah. And I jazz off to that a lot.
Kyle Mooney
That's incred. Jazz. You keep saying jazz off. It sounds like you're doing something. Like you're. I mean, obviously, I don't want to put words in your mouth, but it sounds like you're talking about jerking off to the Knicks.
Nick Kroll
Yeah, exactly.
Kyle Mooney
Okay.
Nick Kroll
Because it is like.
Beck Bennett
So it is that.
Nick Kroll
It is jerking off. I was like, it sounds like he's talking about jerking off.
Kyle Mooney
Yeah.
Nick Kroll
While Coltrane is blasting. So I am listening to jazz as well.
Kyle Mooney
And you're basically jerking off to yourself.
Nick Kroll
To myself.
Kyle Mooney
To the Knicks.
Nick Kroll
To the music. The larger music that we're all coming up with together.
Kyle Mooney
And are you doing this by yourself or.
Nick Kroll
Yeah, yeah, I'm doing it. Mainly that. Or sometimes I'll go to The Los Feliz 5. The movie theater.
Kyle Mooney
Yes.
Nick Kroll
And I'll go jazz off there to the Knicks. I'll watch it loud on my phone while they're like a neon film is playing.
Kyle Mooney
Incredible. So creative. Always break boundaries.
Beck Bennett
And I've heard. I've heard of people doing this. And you're a leader.
Kyle Mooney
Like I said, you know, you're kind of like.
Nick Kroll
Well, it's like, no. And it's like. Because I think, you know, we used to have those theaters where people would go jazz off together. And now, like, with the Internet, that's gone.
Kyle Mooney
I know we're all in our house.
Nick Kroll
People are not going to. Yeah, we're all at our houses. Nobody. They're on their devices. Nobody's going to the movie theaters to support pornography in the theater.
Kyle Mooney
I remember when we went to go see one of the Harry Potter movies and we were jerking off to stuff on our phones in the back.
Beck Bennett
Well, we didn't have. The Jaz component wasn't there. That was just like a straight up.
Kyle Mooney
Let's. Right.
Nick Kroll
Yeah.
Kyle Mooney
Rub the jazz. That's why I said jerking off. Excuse me.
Beck Bennett
A letting a wedding, for instance.
Nick Kroll
A wedding. A wedding. Or like a seed letting.
Kyle Mooney
Yeah. Yes.
Beck Bennett
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Kyle Mooney
It is okay to jerk off when you're at a wedding. Like at the.
Nick Kroll
I think so.
Kyle Mooney
Yeah.
Nick Kroll
It's kind of beautiful. Look at this.
Beck Bennett
I disagree because.
Kyle Mooney
Because I. That. That's the kind of thing that gets me off, actually.
Nick Kroll
Sure.
Kyle Mooney
Is love not.
Nick Kroll
Of course. It's not even gross. It's something that's beautiful.
Kyle Mooney
Yeah.
Beck Bennett
I had this. I had this conversation with my friend. I think it's disrespectful.
Nick Kroll
Really?
Beck Bennett
Yes. I think that, like, it's. I think that really. I think that day is dedicated to whomever is getting married, and I think that jerking off at the wedding is selfish, and that's how I feel, and I will stand by that. And I'm. And I'm sorry if that fucking pisses off any of our listeners, but I will not jerk off at any wedding.
Kyle Mooney
All right, well, that's. You. You know, and we respect.
Beck Bennett
I respect your work and.
Nick Kroll
Well. And I respect your work, and I respect that you let me jack off at your wedding.
Beck Bennett
Better.
Kyle Mooney
Yes.
Beck Bennett
And I would be down for all of us to jack off here.
Kyle Mooney
This is.
Beck Bennett
I feel comfortable.
Kyle Mooney
I mean, I don't. I would rather. I would rather not.
Nick Kroll
You'd rather.
Beck Bennett
What if we.
Nick Kroll
What if we committed ourselves to each other? Would that. For a lifelong commitment of love, would
Kyle Mooney
that probably start going. Yeah. Start rubbing around to me. That.
Beck Bennett
To me. And I'm gonna be very sincere. The issue is getting hard in this moment.
Kyle Mooney
Yeah.
Beck Bennett
Okay.
Kyle Mooney
I can't get hard with a camera.
Nick Kroll
Not with the camera.
Kyle Mooney
I'm not a professional.
Nick Kroll
Yeah, yeah, yeah. No, and that's. That's brings me back to, you know, seeing it in the theater. It's just different. You know what I mean?
Kyle Mooney
So it hits different.
Nick Kroll
It hits.
Kyle Mooney
Couldn't agree more. Well, you know, I feel like we've come around.
Beck Bennett
Come around.
Kyle Mooney
We've come around. We've come on the time to ask you what you think our podcast should be about. I think.
Nick Kroll
Yeah.
Kyle Mooney
Unless. Unless I'm rushing.
Beck Bennett
Yeah. I feel like you're actually in the right. You're in the perfect amount of time. I. I had one thought that I wanted to see what Nick had to say about it, but I also. I. We were never good. Kind of just saying, like, it's time to move to the next.
Kyle Mooney
I know. I know, but. And it's also. Nick's here, so you want to ask.
Beck Bennett
May I?
Kyle Mooney
Yeah, please.
Beck Bennett
Okay.
Nick Kroll
Do you guys want to shoot this part outside?
Kyle Mooney
I would. Can we do it Kyle's.
Beck Bennett
Can we talk to the logistics of shooting outside? Rochelle, I would really prefer if we stayed in Here. Okay.
Nick Kroll
Okay, great.
Kyle Mooney
There you go.
Nick Kroll
That's all we need.
Kyle Mooney
Professional letting us know it's better to stay in the studio.
Beck Bennett
I don't know if this was like an Instagram post you did years ago, but it's at some. Or maybe it was one of your late night appearances, which are always so funny, but it's a photo. It's a prom photo of you and you have, I feel like hair like mine.
Nick Kroll
Yes, yes.
Beck Bennett
And I remember you saying that, like, after your prom date, you went to see live jazz in New York City.
Nick Kroll
Yes, yes. So I had hair up. Your length was probably a little shorter because yours, if you. I'm sure when it's wet, it's like, I bet it's long as.
Beck Bennett
Dude, dude, I ain't say nothing, but I keep going, so.
Nick Kroll
But I kind of was not entirely comfortable with the curls. Like, I wanted it straighter. It's a separate thing, but I just remember, like, putting it in a ponytail, thinking it would get straighter if I put it in a ponytail.
Beck Bennett
17, 18.
Nick Kroll
Yeah, like 17, 18. Yes. Like senior and senior in high school.
Kyle Mooney
Yeah, yeah.
Nick Kroll
But had finally grown my hair out, like, finally, by eight, was like, I'm doing it.
Kyle Mooney
Yeah.
Nick Kroll
And so I did have long hair and we went to the prom and then afterwards, like, nobody was throwing a party, so I was like, we're going to the Iridium, which is a jazz club in. In. In New York City, like, across street from Lincoln center. And we saw McCoy Tyner was playing that guy who's like one of the great piano jazz pianists of. And he played with, like, Coltrane and a bunch of other folks, and he was playing and we, I and many of my friends who had no better plans decided to go also. And I feel like everyone then got there, was like, oh, what are we doing here? And I was like, yeah. And they're like, sir, please keep it down. Yeah, McCoy Tyler's trying to just do that.
Kyle Mooney
You can't scout me. Yeah, yeah.
Nick Kroll
But I did get. I got up, like, inched up real close to him and. And watched. It was. It was. I had a great time.
Beck Bennett
Such a fun thing to think about. Like, whenever you're like, yes, you're 17, and I feel you've done such a great work of sort of portraying these parts of these times in our lives where we're, like, awkward, but, like, to be McCoy Tyner, like, looking down on this little kid, like, it is cringy.
Nick Kroll
Oh, totally. But, like, McCoy Tyner has spent many years looking at, like, rich white kids wanting to seem deep by liking jazz in high school and college, who were like coming to watch him for years,
Kyle Mooney
being like, yeah, baby, yeah, we're the same. I.
Nick Kroll
Yeah. So I think it wasn't the first time that he had to witness that. But I, But I also did. I really, I did love it. That was a good hobby back when I had like, when I was in high school and college, like we did. I go. I went to see like jazz in New York a lot.
Beck Bennett
Yeah.
Nick Kroll
Went to like Smalls and a bunch of those clubs and fucking loved it.
Beck Bennett
That is the. Yeah. That was one of my favorite parts about being in the city.
Nick Kroll
It really was. I mean, that's what is the New York feels like that. That you could just pop in and see a great show and see a fucking great show. And then I had my hair long for a while and then I finally cut it and never grew it that long again.
Beck Bennett
Yeah. Well, you have such a great look and.
Kyle Mooney
Yeah. Incredible look. And it continues to evolve perfectly. But no, wait now this is a little question. And I think we should end it. That's all he wanted. You have a great look, dude.
Beck Bennett
You're happy though.
Kyle Mooney
I don't know if he's heard this enough.
Beck Bennett
Yes. Yes.
Kyle Mooney
We got a thumbs up.
Beck Bennett
He's happy.
Kyle Mooney
Wow. Dude.
Beck Bennett
Nick is on the couch.
Kyle Mooney
He seems to be doing well.
Beck Bennett
That's all that he needed. You got a great look.
Kyle Mooney
Yeah. I love your clothes. I love your hair. Everything is just like.
Beck Bennett
We got a lot of thumbs up. And the prayer ends.
Kyle Mooney
Wow. You're welcome.
Nick Kroll
Honestly though, thank you. It means. Yeah, it means a lot to me.
Kyle Mooney
Just a little question. This is like. This feels like a bad question, but Kyle brought up your late night appearances. Your 70s 70s eater. Eater. Yeah. So funny.
Nick Kroll
Thank you.
Kyle Mooney
And I. And too much tuna. Is there like there's food humor in your life? Is there. Is there like a specific person or you know, situation? Like some. Where is there a place that comes from in your personal life? Somebody that you saw or like. I mean, just probably just like being around food like we all are as human beings. But I'm.
Nick Kroll
That's interesting. I mean, I think like 70 Zener, which we. And then. And too much tuna. Like all that. Oh, hello. Like that is an aesthetic that, that like diner aesthetic. It feels something that I really. It feels very New York and very rich. Like cinematically and also in my life. Life from in those years. Like diners.
Kyle Mooney
Yeah.
Nick Kroll
Like it, you know, it's like. Yeah. It's just flicking. You know, it's casual.
Kyle Mooney
Yeah.
Nick Kroll
You know, eating that way, but also then being at them or like too much tuna. Being like a huge plate of tuna fish. You know, like, just feels like. That does feel like a very familiar aesthetic.
Kyle Mooney
Yeah.
Nick Kroll
That I. I feel like.
Beck Bennett
I bet. I wonder. I mean, maybe I'm forcing a connection here, but like, similar to like being in the body of a 17 year old and feeling more mature, like going to like jazz shows. I bet. Like, like having access to diners as a teenager is something that feels like grown up and cool.
Nick Kroll
Yeah. Do you guys. Did you guys have diner. Did you guys.
Kyle Mooney
Like some of my buddies in high school, we would go to this diner and they. You were allowed to smoke? Yeah. And they would like go there. They would smoke and like.
Nick Kroll
You didn't smoke?
Kyle Mooney
I didn't smoke. Get patty melts.
Nick Kroll
Yeah.
Kyle Mooney
And like.
Nick Kroll
Yeah, totally.
Kyle Mooney
Yeah. And fries.
Nick Kroll
Yeah.
Kyle Mooney
That was like pretty much most days after school.
Nick Kroll
I grew up in Westchester and it was like every town basically there was like the Mama Diner, the Portchester Diner, and like, like, you know, other ones. You know, like each town had that. Their classic.
Kyle Mooney
Yeah.
Nick Kroll
Diner. And I, I did love it. And you did feel kind of older there. And now like you can't hang out too.
Kyle Mooney
Yeah. It's like a place to just be.
Nick Kroll
It's a weird thing now with like a kid, like when my, like I'll take, you know, you take your kid to the diner because they can get them like a grilled cheese and a milkshake or something.
Kyle Mooney
Yeah.
Nick Kroll
And so you go to a diner now as a dad and then you see the like 17 year old, like stoner kids walking in to go to the diner and you're like like cats in the cradle, my friend.
Kyle Mooney
You know what I mean? Yeah, yeah. Right. But yeah, we don't know what our podcast is.
Nick Kroll
Okay, great.
Kyle Mooney
So we would love for you to tell us.
Nick Kroll
Okay, great. You know. Okay. I think the podcast should be about. Because I saw you there. I think our. Your podcast should be about Disneyland being like Disneyland going to Disneyland.
Kyle Mooney
Great.
Beck Bennett
Great.
Kyle Mooney
We'll be right back with Disneyland.
Beck Bennett
See you in a second.
Kyle Mooney
Hi, I'm Beck Bennett.
Beck Bennett
I thought I was Beck Bennett.
Kyle Mooney
No, no, no, no.
Beck Bennett

Kyle Mooney
Yes. Sorry about that. Exactly. No, all good. All good.
Beck Bennett

Kyle Mooney
Yeah. And we host the show what's our podcast here on Headgum.

Beck Bennett
It's just all, well, it's like, oh, do I need to go to, like. Do I need another type of website to, like, find the right pictures or, like, another type of website to upload?
Kyle Mooney
You know, it's all in one place.
Beck Bennett
The video or the audio or, like. No, I want. It makes it easy. Make it easy on me, please.

Nick Kroll
You actually do have, like, a little.
Kyle Mooney
You have a little bit of yellow.
Nick Kroll
I don't know if you had, like, an over easy this morning, but there does seem to be, like, a little yellow crust.
Kyle Mooney
Yeah, it's been there the whole day. I haven't said anything because I just didn't feel comfortable telling you.
Beck Bennett
Really? You don't feel comfortable saying something like that?
Kyle Mooney
No. I see egg on your face. I'm not gonna tell you.
Nick Kroll
No?
Beck Bennett
No.
Kyle Mooney
Okay.
Beck Bennett
Is the egg gone?
Nick Kroll
Yeah.
Beck Bennett
How you doing, B?
Kyle Mooney
Oh, I'm great. I'm great. So stoked to be back here talking to you about what we love the most.
Beck Bennett
Yeah, man. You know, I just. I really. Sometimes I. I feel like I. I enter sort of a dark place.
Kyle Mooney
Yeah.
Beck Bennett
And, you know, I sort of. There are a few environments that can, like, sort of bring that joy back into my life, and one of them is located in Anaheim, California.
Kyle Mooney
That's right. Disneyland podcast. That's what it's all about. You told us Disneyland is our podcast. That's what we'll talk about with Beck and Kyle. Yes. The Happiest place on earth. I'm. I'm glad that it can fix things inside of you, you know, I will say.
Beck Bennett
And before. Before we introduce our guest. Boy, did we. Did we luck out.
Kyle Mooney
Oh, my God. How do we get him?
Beck Bennett
Yeah, it's like, oh, he's.
Kyle Mooney
He's doing some pantomime right now. Can't tell. His lips are zipped. If you're listening, he just zipped his lips and threw away the zipper or the key, I think.
Beck Bennett
And then I do. I do.
Kyle Mooney
Now he's eating the key. It's incredible. You're going to have to go to
Beck Bennett
kind of Marcel Marceau situation.
Kyle Mooney
He's, like, looking around like, who did that?
Beck Bennett
He's being naughty.
Kyle Mooney
So was that a mustache?
Beck Bennett
Maybe. Yeah.
Kyle Mooney
Who knows? But you were gonna say before we get to our guests.
Beck Bennett
I was gonna start. I was gonna say something dark that, like, maybe is not a good. Maybe it's not a good way to set things off.
Kyle Mooney
No, I think you should.
Beck Bennett
But actually, I will be honest. There was a moment in my life where I was not. I was unhappy.
Kyle Mooney
Oh, no.
Beck Bennett
And I had family going down to Disneyland, and I was like, okay, you know what? This is a place that always brings me joy.
Kyle Mooney
Yeah. Yeah.
Beck Bennett
And maybe this will uplift my spirits. And we had a great day at Disneyland. Oh, great.
Kyle Mooney
Great.
Beck Bennett
But I. I remained depressed.
Kyle Mooney
Oh, cool story. Well, that's awesome. Yeah. It didn't work. Well, this is our guest, Nick Kroll. Thank you for being here.
Nick Kroll
So thrilled to be here.
Kyle Mooney
Yeah. Have you ever been, like, really depressed and then tried to solve it by going to Disneyland? I have. Yeah.
Nick Kroll
I just went with my family.
Kyle Mooney
Yes. I actually just saw you there. Yeah. And not in the park. Outside of the park. We were kind of ships in the night. It would have been cool to do it together.
Nick Kroll
Yeah. We. That's why I thought, if I'm being completely honest.
Kyle Mooney
Yeah. Pull back the curtain. Let's see behind. Yeah.
Nick Kroll
That it would seem like something that we had would have in common.
Kyle Mooney
Yeah.
Nick Kroll
What I don't have in common is just, like, this depression issue that you were dealing with.
Beck Bennett
Well, I'm over it.
Kyle Mooney
Oh, so you did fix it.
Beck Bennett
Okay.
Nick Kroll
You did fix it.
Beck Bennett
Yo. Yes.
Nick Kroll
So where did you go? Magic Mountain. How'd you fix it?
Beck Bennett
Yeah, I went on X2 at Magic Mountain.
Kyle Mooney
Oh, that's great. So it's just. And for any of our listeners, if you're feeling down and you don't know how to fix it. X2.
Beck Bennett
Yeah. Or hire a professional. Like, talk to somebody.
Nick Kroll
Yeah, talk to somebody. And that's why Better Help has been such a great part of this show.
Kyle Mooney
Yeah.
Beck Bennett
Right.
Kyle Mooney
Yeah.
Beck Bennett
How many times have you.
Nick Kroll
I've only been. I've been to Disneyland, I now realize twice in my life.
Kyle Mooney
Oh, that's it. Wow.
Nick Kroll
Yeah. Cause I'm not. I'm like, not a Southern California kid. So I went when I was like, I found my mom. Send us a picture. When we went, I was like, probably like, five, six, and my sister was eight. And. But then I went back with my. And in my head, even then, I was like, disney World's the better one. I don't know why was that? The common feeling was that that was.
Kyle Mooney
I mean, I had never been to Disneyland. I went to Disney World growing up, but to me, it was like, Disney World has everything.
Nick Kroll
Yes.
Kyle Mooney
And Disneyland is just one fourth of what Disney World has.
Nick Kroll
That's. I think I felt like that.
Kyle Mooney
Yes.
Nick Kroll
And I never went to. So I was like, I guess I'm going to Disneyland, but I have no real memory of it. But I. I. But I think I had. I remember peeing in a bottle on the drive there.
Kyle Mooney
Oh, that's cool.
Nick Kroll
Yeah, yeah. Like, you know, you're, like, on one of those long drives.
Kyle Mooney
Yeah, yeah. And you got to pee in a bottle with your family.
Beck Bennett
The dumb and dumber scene where they. Where he's pissing in the bottles.
Kyle Mooney
Amazing.
Beck Bennett
Just like another. Sorry. Pop culture poly.
Kyle Mooney
Yeah. Yeah.
Nick Kroll
And we are psyched, by the way. I know you guys are also looking for a form for your podcast.
Kyle Mooney
Yeah.
Nick Kroll
If you want to do a rewatch thing of just, like, all of Jeff Daniels comedy movies.
Kyle Mooney
Yeah. That's amazing. And now. Did you say Jeff Daniels? Yeah. Okay. But that. Were you talking about Jeff Daniels or another. Okay, great. I just. I didn't mean to put you on the spot.
Nick Kroll
No, no, no. I meant to say those two names, those two words.
Kyle Mooney
I do like Jeff Daniels. I love his work.
Beck Bennett
Yeah.
Kyle Mooney
But, yeah, we can maybe do that.
Nick Kroll
Do I have egg on my face?
Kyle Mooney
No, you're.
Nick Kroll
Is it Jeff?
Kyle Mooney
Perfect.
Nick Kroll
What's his name? Jeff Probst.
Kyle Mooney
Jeff Probst, the Survivor guy?
Beck Bennett
Didn't he famously have egg on his face?
Kyle Mooney
Yeah.
Nick Kroll
All these survivors are like, like, oh, God. You know, and he's just coming from a little buffet.
Kyle Mooney
He's got a little something right here. Got some beef.
Nick Kroll
You would not. You would not believe. You got the beef tenderloin?
Kyle Mooney
I'm getting.
Nick Kroll
I got beef deep in the buffet. Hard.
Kyle Mooney
That is the thing I've never heard.
Nick Kroll
Did you hit the buffet hard at Disney? At the hotel at Disneyland.
Kyle Mooney
I hit it. O. I hit it already. But I'm Californian. I. Yes. And I went to the buffet. That's what we were about to.
Beck Bennett
Were you staying there as well?
Nick Kroll
I came in. We did it in one day. And you. I ran into you and your family, and you guys were on, like, day two or. It felt like like three.
Kyle Mooney
We were about to leave. We were doing the character brunch on our way out. And it was fun. We saw some characters. But I. You know, I. It's. It's. I don't know. The stuff in the buffet. It never really. There's so many options.
Beck Bennett
Do they have Mickey pancakes?
Kyle Mooney
They had Mickey pancakes. I wasn't interested.
Nick Kroll
He's my friend. Mickey pancakes.
Beck Bennett
Dick Tracy characters. Mickey pancakes
Nick Kroll
him. Right?
Kyle Mooney
Yeah. He was stealing people's pancakes and eating them. You know.
Beck Bennett
And I'm Charlie.
Kyle Mooney
Charlie Cock wasn't there. I think he comes out at night. That's kind of.
Nick Kroll
But what. I didn't think it was weird that I. We didn't have any characters. Characters don't walk around.
Kyle Mooney
Yeah.
Nick Kroll
And I thought Disneyland was like, USA in the mid-2000s. Characters welcome.
Kyle Mooney
Right.
Nick Kroll
But it's. It was weird. Like, I thought I would. I didn't. I felt like Pluto or.
Beck Bennett
I will say I go a lot.
Nick Kroll
You do?
Kyle Mooney
Where are they?
Beck Bennett
I have a pass. Well, you sort of. There are spots where they're going to be.
Kyle Mooney
You have to go on the. Yeah.
Beck Bennett
It's less roaming and it's more like.
Nick Kroll
Copy that.
Beck Bennett
Oh, they're gonna be in front of Carthay Circle.
Nick Kroll
Okay.
Beck Bennett
They're gonna be at Centennial Park.
Nick Kroll
Okay.
Beck Bennett
So it's. Yeah. Yeah. A lot of it is sort of figuring out. Daisy Duck will appear at 11:45 in this place.
Nick Kroll
Always.
Kyle Mooney
Is it.
Nick Kroll
Are you always scouting to find where Daisy's gonna be?
Kyle Mooney
Yeah. It seems like you kind of got Daisy on the mind.
Beck Bennett
All right. Sorry. Top.
Kyle Mooney
I'll tell you, she is fine.
Beck Bennett
She has. If you. I watch all these.
Nick Kroll
Make no mistake.
Beck Bennett
She is also, like. There's this thing. I don't.
Nick Kroll
I don't want.
Beck Bennett
There's just video.
Nick Kroll
You can.
Kyle Mooney
There's a lot of videos online. You kind of just make them yourself.
Nick Kroll
And you just make them yourself now.
Kyle Mooney
Yeah. Yeah. That's great. Yeah.
Beck Bennett
All right. All right.
Kyle Mooney
Kyle's lots of hobbies, and that's one of them.
Nick Kroll
Yeah.
Beck Bennett
Donald is stupid.
Kyle Mooney
Yes.
Beck Bennett
He's.
Kyle Mooney
And, like, Donald's a fool. Daisy is present like an angry fool.
Beck Bennett
She has, like, hot girl energy.
Kyle Mooney
Yes. Yeah. Yeah, yeah.
Nick Kroll
For sure. Yes. And Donald make no mistake. Is a fucking angry fool.
Kyle Mooney
So what you're saying. Are you saying Donald doesn't deserve her and you do?
Beck Bennett
I do think Daisy has a sexy quality to it.
Nick Kroll
Yes. I would agree. What's crazy is, you know, she almost. She was gonna marry Donald or Mickey. Pancakes.
Kyle Mooney
Come here, come here, come here.
Nick Kroll
Give me a little smooch.
Kyle Mooney
Give me pancakes before you go, baby. I don't think she.
Beck Bennett
I think she could do better. March in.
Kyle Mooney
Well, of course she went with Charlie Cock. Of course. How could you not.
Beck Bennett
Did you have a favorite ride when you were young?
Nick Kroll
I had a least favorite ride.
Kyle Mooney
Okay, what was it?
Nick Kroll
I went to the. We went to the Guardians of the Galaxy with no context of what it
Kyle Mooney
was with the children.
Nick Kroll
With my. My five year old son.
Beck Bennett
Oh no.
Nick Kroll
And my grand. My father in law.
Kyle Mooney
Oh.
Nick Kroll
And the three of us went on and my father in law loved it and my son and I.
Beck Bennett
Can I ask you one question before you go into.
Nick Kroll
Please.
Beck Bennett
Did you get. Did they've changed this but did you get to hear rocket raccoons say we need. You're gonna scan your hands.
Nick Kroll
No, I did not hear that. But it's possible that it was there somewhere.
Kyle Mooney
There's a lot happening. A lot of stuff.
Nick Kroll
There's a. A lot happening. Including Preparing my. My 5 year old for a ride that I was not sure what it was. I just saw that the height of that building. I was like look at this. That looks like the movie. Holy smokes.
Kyle Mooney
Right?
Nick Kroll
So I went. We went on it. And then you walk in and if it's one of those like it's one
Kyle Mooney
of these, you know, like up and down. Up and down.
Nick Kroll
Yeah. And my body hated it. My body hated it. And my son's body hated it.
Kyle Mooney
Yeah.
Nick Kroll
So deeply. And I, I felt awful then. That was sort of the, the like the end of the day.
Beck Bennett
Yes.
Nick Kroll
But he took it like. I was shocked. Cuz we've gone on. He like we've gone on a few like little roller but I. We went on the Matador.
Beck Bennett
I would say that is the most. Most intense the mor.
Nick Kroll
The mor.
Beck Bennett
The most intense ride.
Kyle Mooney
The most intense Jeff Daniels you'll ever see in your life.
Nick Kroll
That ride is weird. And then we did the Matter Horn and Space Mountain.
Kyle Mooney
Yeah.
Nick Kroll
And my kid loves. Loved this like he got to shoot like Spider Man. He got to shoot Spider man. And. And also the Buzz Lightyear one. Yes.
Kyle Mooney
Yeah. Yeah.
Beck Bennett
Shooting.
Nick Kroll
Yeah. What else did I like? I don't know.
Kyle Mooney
Did you do the, the cars?
Nick Kroll
That was the one my kid at that moment, like, kind of short circuited and was like, I don't want to go on this ride. And I was like, oh, I think we're. I think we're about to miss, like, the. The fucking funnest ride. But he just couldn't understand, you know, like, he just hit that point where he's like, short circuiting. And so then we went to the other cars ride the, like, the little Tony Shalhoub.
Kyle Mooney
Hey. I'm the only fallen voice in the movies that was closed down.
Beck Bennett
Luigi's roadster.
Kyle Mooney
Yes. Yes.
Nick Kroll
But we hit a ton of. And then we drove home that same night back to la. And I truly felt like I got home, I was fine the whole day. And then I got home that night and woke up the next morning and felt like I had had a stroke.
Kyle Mooney
Really?
Nick Kroll
You know what I mean?
Kyle Mooney
Body was sore.
Nick Kroll
Body sore. Brain, like, truly fried.
Beck Bennett
What was. How was the weather?
Nick Kroll
The weather was beautiful. It was like, not. I mean, you were there at similar time, right? So it was like, perfect.
Kyle Mooney
It was perfect.
Nick Kroll
It was like, not too hot.
Kyle Mooney
Yeah.
Beck Bennett
That's what you want.
Nick Kroll
Yeah. But I was scared. I just was so kind of scared of it.
Beck Bennett
Yes.
Nick Kroll
Cause I had no real context for it.
Kyle Mooney
Yeah.
Beck Bennett
Of the ride or just the whole experience?
Kyle Mooney
Being in the sun, waiting in lines. You're like, how are they gonna handle this?
Nick Kroll
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Kyle Mooney
It is like the thing about Disneyland that a lot of people don't understand that you really appreciate you. Like, I feel like you just like hanging out there, like, being in the world of.
Beck Bennett
To me in my, like, 30s, I feel like when we would take hiatuses from SNL, like, I treated it like a large beer garden, essentially.
Nick Kroll
Oh, for fun. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. And you just go to the Sunglass Hut or Sephora and just check shit out.
Beck Bennett
Yeah.
Kyle Mooney
Downtown Disney. Yeah. Yeah. But, like, it is for kids that, like, there's so much to look at.
Nick Kroll
Yes.
Kyle Mooney
You know, and it's just like walking from one ride to the next can be really exciting for them. Yeah.
Nick Kroll
And it's just. I mean, it's like, again, I had, like, weirdly, like, I don't like doing research about anything before I do stuff. Like, I'm just. There are people who are like, oh, I'm gonna know.
Kyle Mooney
I'm gonna figure this out.
Nick Kroll
It's all gonna figure it out. I'm gonna. And I'm gonna have this mapped out and also, like. And I also just throw money at. I'm just. Yeah. Those problems.
Kyle Mooney
Yeah.
Nick Kroll
So I'm just like, please someone. Deal with this. So I can show up and be. Take. I have that luxury. But I also, in my heart, don't want to do any research. So I was. Everything felt like completely new to me.
Beck Bennett
Wait, so did you have a guide?
Nick Kroll
Yes, we had a guide, and we went to, like, for example, like, Small World. I was like, oh, this is what a small world is. Like, I have no idea any of it's.
Kyle Mooney
It's interesting, the Small World. Right.
Nick Kroll
It was. It's like a. It feels like a relic of a bi. Like, it feels sort of racist, but you can't put your finger on it.
Beck Bennett
Right.
Nick Kroll
But it just feels a little. Everything feels a little from the past.
Kyle Mooney
Yes.
Nick Kroll
And. But it's not overtly so. So it doesn't.
Beck Bennett
The messaging is sort of the opposite.
Nick Kroll
Yes. The messaging is the opposite, but the presentation just somehow.
Beck Bennett
Well, yes.
Kyle Mooney
Yes.
Nick Kroll
And then, you know what kind of blew me away was Pirates of the Caribbean.
Kyle Mooney
Yeah.
Nick Kroll
I weirdly was like, oh, my kid. Really? Yeah. I was like, whoa. I was like, I get why they made a movie of this now.
Kyle Mooney
What. What was it? The. The puppetry or whatever, the animatronic stuff? I mean, because those guys are a little creepy. It's creepy. Was it, like, the darkness of it? Was it the story?
Nick Kroll
I think it was. I think it was the progression of storytelling from, like, space to space that I do feel like. And they got one that looks like Johnny Depp.
Kyle Mooney
I know. I'm like, is that an accident? How did they do that? How do they get that?
Nick Kroll
Because they made the ride before the movie.
Kyle Mooney
Right.
Nick Kroll
And then they made the movie.
Kyle Mooney
I know. And then. Right. And then you go on the ride, and it's like, what came first, the movie or the ride? The ride came first. There's a guy.
Beck Bennett
This was the reaction you were having.
Nick Kroll
I was on. Yeah. I was on methadone throughout the whole day.
Kyle Mooney
I was like, like, you know, kind of like, you know, at Disneyland, which is something me and Kyle did once.
Nick Kroll
Mushrooms.
Kyle Mooney
Mushrooms. Oh, bad idea.
Nick Kroll
Bad idea.
Kyle Mooney
Really bad idea. Because you're in lines, you're surrounded by metal. You're on concrete with, like, screaming kids. It was. It was.
Nick Kroll
And you're seeing families. Like, you can't look too closely at other groups of people.
Kyle Mooney
No.
Beck Bennett
For.
Kyle Mooney
For me, it hit. It clicked in when we went into the family bathroom.
Beck Bennett
Yes.
Kyle Mooney
Same when we went into. Into the park, and they're just like kids screaming, like, hand dryers going off. And I was like, this is it sound. This is bad.
Beck Bennett
Same. It felt like a. Like some sort of up Factory.
Kyle Mooney
Pull up your band.
Nick Kroll
Like.
Beck Bennett
Yes, I. And I don't. I think that was probably the first time I'd ever done mush.
Kyle Mooney
Yes, it was. It was a little bit like, sure. This is.
Beck Bennett
Everybody, like, had to take care of me that day, which is also its own thing. That's sort of a bummer. You know what I mean?
Nick Kroll
But that's kind of always how it works. Sort of. You're always kind of the one who's.
Beck Bennett
Oh, just generally.
Nick Kroll
Yeah. Generally speaking, I'm little.
Beck Bennett
I need your help.
Kyle Mooney
You guys are both the babies.
Beck Bennett
That's probably true.
Nick Kroll
You know what else I liked? Or I. We went to that. The Harry Potter section thing was pretty cool. No, not Harry Potter. No. Hold on. I'm sorry. Genuine fear in his eyes when I said that.
Kyle Mooney
Genuine.
Nick Kroll
That's it. I went separately to Universal Studios with my. With my brother, came to town and we went there and I was impressed. At Universal Studios with Harry. The Harry Potter situation.
Kyle Mooney
I haven't been. I have not been to Universal Studios ever.
Nick Kroll
It's fun. I don't know. It's fun. I thought that was fun, too. I mean, it's like, again, it's like you're. You just. You're taking your. I truly had, like. I didn't have a ton of judgment about Disneyland. I wasn't like, what the fuck? You know? And, like. And if you're a Disney adult, like, hit us up, check in.
Kyle Mooney
Yeah. Let us know how you feel.
Nick Kroll
Yeah. If we nailed it. Disneyland as a subject matter for an entire podcast.
Kyle Mooney
Yeah. Or if we left any stone unturned, let us know.
Beck Bennett
Well, I'll say we've covered it. Also, I think the one thing I'll add, what I think is special, specifically about Disneyland, when you're talking about the Disneyland versus Disney World conversation, is that Walt Disney had something to do with this specific amusement park, and he did, like, essentially build it from. From the ground up. So there's some, like, link there to,
Nick Kroll
like, Disney World was Disneyland first.
Beck Bennett
Yes.
Kyle Mooney
Yeah. Yeah.
Nick Kroll
And then they made Disney World later and they made it bigger and better.
Kyle Mooney
Yes.
Nick Kroll
And does that hurt to know that as, like, someone from Southern California who clearly has a strong affinity for Disney?
Beck Bennett
I don't. I actually think a lot of people prefer Disneyland to be more manageable. But I had my bachelor party at Disney World.
Nick Kroll
Really?
Kyle Mooney
Yeah, yeah, yeah. It was wild.
Nick Kroll
How many days? Days.
Beck Bennett
One day at Disney World, one day at Universal.
Kyle Mooney
Three nights, two days.
Nick Kroll
That sounds genuinely fun.
Kyle Mooney
I got. I famously got off the ride. We were. What ride was it?
Beck Bennett
It's the. It was like a. It's a Three Caballeros ride. Like, at the Mexican, like, I don't know, Pavilion within Epcot Center.
Kyle Mooney
Yes. And it was like a little boat going through these little worlds. And I got off of the boat in the ride and, like, got on the scenery and just, like, walked for a second, got back in the boat.
Beck Bennett
It was the very first ride we did, I think.
Kyle Mooney
I think so. Yeah. And apparently, like, that is the type of stuff that can get you, like, kicked out of Disneyland forever.
Nick Kroll
Were you drunk?
Kyle Mooney
No, I don't think so.
Nick Kroll
You're just hyped at your boy's bachelor party.
Kyle Mooney
Disney World. Do something crazy.
Nick Kroll
I want to do this. Yeah.
Beck Bennett
But I do remember, yeah. Personally having the reaction like, ah, Beck, please don't do that, man.
Kyle Mooney
You almost ruined this whole thing.
Nick Kroll
But that's. That's what happens when you roll with B.
Beck Bennett
No, no. But when we have the story and, like, nobody said a single, single thing. Yeah, a single thing.
Kyle Mooney
Said a single thing.
Nick Kroll
Single thing. I like that. I'm trying to remember the other. I now haven't thought that's how I feel about parenting, but this is the podcast. There's no other podcast to refer to.
Kyle Mooney
Right.
Nick Kroll
Is I have a goldfish brain. For, like, we did that. We went to Disneyland. We did it. It was amazing and intense. And then for, like, two or three days, I told people about it.
Beck Bennett
It.
Nick Kroll
And then now it's. Now it's, like, fully been removed from my.
Beck Bennett
Right.
Nick Kroll
My. My entire court.
Kyle Mooney
The memories.
Nick Kroll
The memories are like. I was like. And now I'm like, oh, right. I didn't like this, and I like that.
Kyle Mooney
Yeah.
Nick Kroll
I ate a church. I ate some churros that I liked.
Kyle Mooney
Churros are so good. That was huge. Just like, grabbing a churro everywhere. The kids love the churros.
Nick Kroll
Yeah. I was. I felt like I was. We got pizzas, we got churros, we got burgers, we got, like, ice creams. The coldest ice cream from, like, one of those, like, ice cream carts. It was like.
Kyle Mooney
Yeah.
Nick Kroll
They warned us. They're like, your child may lick it, and it may get stuck to your child's tongue because it's like, you know, fruit pops or whatever.
Kyle Mooney
Yeah. And.
Nick Kroll
But it was like, clearly there's something about, like, they must keep everything at a certain temperature so there's not a chance that anything could melt. And it's like they've decided it's better for your child to get your, like, tongue stuck to it, like, Christmas story style than to have Something that has gone possibly bad.
Kyle Mooney
Interesting. Good to know. It's really cold. I guess I will say. As far as little treats. Disneyland treats. This is a new thing.
Nick Kroll
As far as little treats.
Kyle Mooney
As far as.
Nick Kroll
You guys look great today.
Beck Bennett
We got a great look.
Kyle Mooney
You have a great look. By the way, the.
Beck Bennett
The.
Kyle Mooney
The candy store in Downtown Disney is a magical experience.
Nick Kroll
Really not.
Beck Bennett
There's one on Main Street. Not the one on Main Street. On Downtown Disney.
Kyle Mooney
Did go Downtown Disney.
Beck Bennett
Okay, Ruby.
Kyle Mooney
My son got a Mickey shaped Rice Krispie treat covered in chocolate with M and M's on it. Like, and it was like, I think something he'll remember forever. Yeah, they have, like. They have, like, creations that you wouldn't find anywhere else.
Nick Kroll
Talk about wanting to jazz off.
Kyle Mooney
Yeah, I know, Mickey.
Nick Kroll
Rice Krispie treats.
Kyle Mooney
Yeah. And you can take. You can. You can do whatever you want with them.
Nick Kroll
You can coat your own.
Kyle Mooney
Yeah, I think that's a perfect place to end the podcast. You can go. You can coat your own. Make it your own.
Beck Bennett
Thanks for having me.
Kyle Mooney
Oh, Mickey. Hey, thanks for making me.
Beck Bennett
Oh, yeah, no problem. I just heard you guys talking about coming on.
Nick Kroll
Yeah, I thought I'd come by.
Beck Bennett
Come by Disneyland anytime you'd like to.
Kyle Mooney
Thanks, man. Appreciate it.
Beck Bennett
I wouldn't mind if you came by too.
Kyle Mooney
Whoa. Goofy. Oh, Donald. Yes, Daisy Here. Wow. Damn. I can hardly keep it in my pants.
Nick Kroll
Excuse me.
Kyle Mooney
Don't hold up, though. Yes. Yeah. Where are you going?
Nick Kroll
What's up?
Beck Bennett
I'm just waddling around.
Kyle Mooney
Oh, yeah, waddling around. You got that. Donald doesn't.
Nick Kroll
Hey, Donald doesn't treat you right.
Kyle Mooney
Yeah, you deserve better.
Nick Kroll
You deserve better. He's angry and he's stupid.
Beck Bennett
Yeah, you're Nick Kroll.
Nick Kroll
Yeah, I made it.
Kyle Mooney
Hardy Boys. Speaking of Hardy Boys.
Beck Bennett
Well, enjoy your podcasting. I'm gonna be hanging right there, actually.
Nick Kroll
Yeah, well, I'm right here.
Beck Bennett
My phone number or something.
Kyle Mooney
Mike, that's. Dude, that was amazing.
Beck Bennett
I don't want to do that,
Nick Kroll
but what a good hack for Donald. It like, it really gives you the essence of Donald without having to do it.
Beck Bennett
My daughter loves all the characters and I've been trying. I've not put the actual. Yeah, you could probably do it,
Kyle Mooney
but
Nick Kroll
I can't talk like him. You can talk like you can hit,
Beck Bennett
but I'm not doing it. Yeah, I feel like I'm not doing it from the side of him mouth.
Kyle Mooney
Yeah, we get. We do really good duck here. Duck. Causing problems again.
Nick Kroll
You are dicking out my wife.
Kyle Mooney
It's hard to do, but you get it. It's dog.
Beck Bennett
Well, thank you so much, Nick. Thanks for being here on our Disneyland podcast.
Kyle Mooney
Yeah. See you at Disney next time.
Nick Kroll
See you at Disney next time.
Beck Bennett
Well, Nick, truly such an honor. Thanks for the Disneyland pitch.
Kyle Mooney
Yeah. There was a lot of good stuff in there.
Beck Bennett
Yeah. I feel like we could go on for another five, six hours.
Nick Kroll
I mean, so that is going to be the podcast now, officially?
Kyle Mooney
I think so. Yeah. We're going to talk about it and check in.
Beck Bennett
We have to check in with Relle back there.
Kyle Mooney
Yeah, we're going to see.
Beck Bennett
Do we have a take as to whether we're going to just roll with that for the rest of time? I think you guys found it.
Kyle Mooney
Oh, that's. Thank you so much.
Nick Kroll
That is honestly thrilling to be a third partner in this.
Beck Bennett
Well, that's not how it works. Exactly.
Kyle Mooney
Yeah, we own the idea. We like it.
Beck Bennett
Along with head gum.
Nick Kroll
But I haven't. I don't think I've signed anything yet. Right. So I don't.
Beck Bennett
That's the thing. You haven't signed any.
Nick Kroll
Right.
Kyle Mooney
Right.
Nick Kroll
So here we are.
Beck Bennett
Oh, touche.
Nick Kroll
How do I get so much done?
Kyle Mooney
Wow, dude.
Nick Kroll
I absolutely gank people.
Beck Bennett
Time to gank.
Kyle Mooney
Time to gang.
Beck Bennett
Another day of ganking for n. Gang pranks.
Nick Kroll
Welcome back to South Beach.
Kyle Mooney
I would love to go to south beach with you guys and prank some people.
Nick Kroll
Dude, I would gank some. I would gank hard in south beach with you boys. Dude.
Kyle Mooney
All right.
Beck Bennett
Yeah.
Nick Kroll
What do you.
Beck Bennett
What do you got coming up?
Nick Kroll
Oh, what do I got? Mating Season on Netflix streaming right now.
Kyle Mooney
Yes. Which. Go ahead.
Nick Kroll
You were going to say something. Just. It's a team from Big Mouth. It's our new animated show called Mating Season about animals dating and falling in love and. Absolutely. In the woods.
Kyle Mooney
Yes, yes. It's very funny. I've read a little bit of it because I was in an episode. I play a goat.
Nick Kroll
You play a broat. A hardcore goat.
Beck Bennett
Do you remember the name of your goat? Do you know the name of the goat?
Nick Kroll
I'm trying to remember his name.
Kyle Mooney
Trevor.
Nick Kroll
Maybe it's something Trevor asked.
Kyle Mooney
You do like a bat.
Nick Kroll
You do like a funny. Like a.
Kyle Mooney
Like a. Like a laugh.
Nick Kroll
You do. Yeah. Like, you have.
Kyle Mooney
I'm like. It's, like, not warmed up right now, but. Yeah, yeah, yeah, you got to watch the show. No, no.
Nick Kroll
By the way, speaking of, has Brewer come down to do the show yet? Has Jim come through to do the pod yet?
Kyle Mooney
He hasn't, but I think after this, we should ask him.
Nick Kroll
I mean, I feel like you guys Would have snl. You'd have SNL to talk about all that stuff.
Kyle Mooney
Yeah, yeah.
Nick Kroll
You could do goat boy or whatever. You guys can do the goat guys together. Would you do a goat character as well?
Beck Bennett
I. I wouldn't want to do it in his presence. I would be nervous.
Kyle Mooney
Maybe you could play a goat like this.
Beck Bennett
Always good to see him.
Kyle Mooney
Check out Mating season and everything else that Nick does. Everywhere.
Nick Kroll
Always.
Kyle Mooney
Everywhere. Always. Adults.
Nick Kroll
Oh yeah. Adults coming out. It'll. And yeah.
Beck Bennett
And when can we expect the new show?
Nick Kroll
A hundred percent will be sometime probably, I think early next year. Well, yeah, I'm not sure exactly.
Kyle Mooney
We're.
Nick Kroll
We're about to start shooting it.
Beck Bennett
That's so exciting.
Kyle Mooney
Yeah, I can't wait for that incredible picture.
Beck Bennett
The premise or.
Nick Kroll
No, yeah, it's.
Kyle Mooney
It's.
Nick Kroll
It's a show about like the world of like, self help gurus, thought leader, you know, TED talk, wellness influencer, podcasting space. And it's. Yeah, it's sort of. It's kind of about that kind of world.
Beck Bennett
That's so rad. That's such a awesome cast.
Nick Kroll
It's a killer. Yeah.
Beck Bennett
So much. You've not started shooting.
Nick Kroll
We are about to start shooting. It's me, Jason Manzuka, Sam Richardson.
Kyle Mooney
Richardson.
Nick Kroll
Sam Richardson. And Vanessa Bayer, who you guys know very well. Man. Your guys video, you and Vanessa singing that song, like, really is so funny. She dug it up, you guys. I'll just say equally, you guys. It's funny because you go on someone's podcast and they have to be nice to you and promote your stuff. But you guys are. Oh, have always been funny, both of you, individually and collectively.
Kyle Mooney
Thank you.
Nick Kroll
And you were a little younger and I watched you guys doing good neighbor and being so funny and then both getting SNL and both like doing great work on that show, you know, together and individually. And I was like, it was someone not being on SNL being like, good, the right people are getting it, you know. Cause you don't always feel that way about people who get that opportunity.
Beck Bennett
Oh, that's very nice.
Nick Kroll
So it was a. And everything you guys do is always fucking funny and smart. And so it's too bad that this pod was an exception to the rule.
Kyle Mooney
Yeah, yeah, yeah. Well, you know, you always have to. You always have to work on yourself. But thank you. That means a lot coming from. Absolutely. Yeah. True.
Beck Bennett
Thank you so much. And yeah, like, let's just like keep
Kyle Mooney
on making good ass doing this podcast together. Let's do it.
Nick Kroll
Let's do the podcast. And if I had a Suggestion.
Beck Bennett
Can we do a second take generally? Of the whole thing?
Nick Kroll
Yeah.
Kyle Mooney
But yes, of the whole podcast generally.
Nick Kroll
I do have another idea for just the next. If you guys are going to do another podcast.
Kyle Mooney
Yeah. Great.
Nick Kroll
Have you thought about a podcast about, like, Topsiders?
Kyle Mooney
I. I haven't.
Beck Bennett
Well, we did slip ons.
Kyle Mooney
You did slip ons? Yeah. So this is. I. I was wondering if you were going to call this out when I was putting these on, because Kyle wears them 24 7. 24 7. I occasionally wear mine, and I'm glad you noticed.
Nick Kroll
Meanwhile, I'm just a classic man in an old red wing. It's not a big deal.
Kyle Mooney
Bigger balls than us, for sure. Tougher guy.
Nick Kroll
Absolutely zero treading on the bottom.
Kyle Mooney
Yeah.
Nick Kroll
So terrible in. In a. On a cold day.
Kyle Mooney
Yeah. Flipping around.
Nick Kroll
Like, flipping around. Slipping around a mountain town.
Kyle Mooney
And slippy boots. Absolutely.
Nick Kroll
Slipping around in boots.
Beck Bennett
It's a handsome pair of shoes.
Nick Kroll
Those are great.
Kyle Mooney
You have an incredible look. Oh, he's vomiting now. Well, we got to clean this up.
Beck Bennett
Thank you.
Kyle Mooney
Oh, fuck. We do need some help. Thank you so much for coming, brother.
Beck Bennett
He's fine. He's. He's giving us thumbs. Up, up. He's good.
Kyle Mooney
It sounds. I've never seen somebody dry heave this much at the end of a podcast.
Beck Bennett
He's turning his face to the mic, so he's. He wants.
Kyle Mooney
Well, thanks for joining us. He's saying he's good. He's going to be okay. All right, thanks, guys.

What's Our Podcast? with Beck Bennett and Kyle Mooney (Headgum) – July 29, 2026
In this lively, sprawling episode, Beck Bennett and Kyle Mooney welcome comedian, writer, and all-around multi-hyphenate Nick Kroll. The show’s meta premise remains intact: Beck and Kyle are still trying to figure out “what’s our podcast about?”—turning to their guests for inspiration and, in this case, indulging in a hilarious, reflective, and sometimes surprisingly sincere conversation with Kroll.
The episode weaves career reminiscence, absurd jokes, bits about hobbies, existential crises, Disneyland rehashes, and genuine camaraderie. It’s equal parts silly and earnest, with several running gags and affectionate ribbing.

For listeners who enjoy Beck and Kyle’s particular brand of absurdity, affectionate digs, as well as behind-the-scenes comedy talk, this episode is a feast. Nick Kroll is a fitting guest—effortlessly oscillating from big bit energy to heartfelt introspection. Did the show find its true purpose? Maybe, maybe not—but in the process, it delivers plenty of laughs, some real talk, and a few surprisingly touching moments.
