I was in that. And then he had his own little experience, which he'll tell you about. But then I was just traveling the world and got a call while I was in like the hills of Colombia being like, do you want to do this reality show? And I was like, okay, sure. Like, I don't really know what this is about, but it was super fun. Something that didn't involve my heart. Like, I was in such a good place where I didn't even want a relationship.

And that's when.

That's when it happened.

And then, like, I walked out on the beach and I see him in his little, like, flowery blue shirt and I'm like, why do you look so familiar? He's like, I'm from the Bachelorette. Yeah. Like, big Blake smile. And that was it.

I never get sick of hearing that story. I'll tell you what. Yeah. Cause I mean, I was in a similar situation. I came off getting dumped. Not at the altar, but, you know, during the proposal.

And I was also like, not really. You know, I came, then I went on to paradise. Didn't have a great time and it didn't work out. And same thing. I was like, I don't want to do any more reality TV unless it's a challenge.

So I got the call from the All Stars shore and then I remember freaking out in the hotel and because a lot of the. It was a big personalities from people all over the world and I was like, what am I getting myself into? Like, I'm like, bunch of crazies in here. Yeah.

I'm boring.

I'm a boring ABC guy, you know, I mean, I'm not this, like crazy.

We were furniture.

I walked down and. Yeah, well, I was down there already. And she came. No, you were down there. That's right. You were down there. And I was like. I remember seeing her being like, she's cute. Like, thank God she's cute. Somebody that I can, you know, maybe flirt with a little. And then by the. Yeah. Or second day, it was like over, so.

And then the producers were like. Yeah.

Mad at us.

They're like, you guys, this is not.

Over three years later, engaged with a ten month old boy.

Literal goals. Literal goals. Okay, tell me about the engagement. Did you know this is my. Yeah. This is where you take.

No idea.

Yeah, I did my best too. I tried so hard to say.

On that. You were kind of surprised, right? Yes. I mean, she knew it was coming.

Obviously, because he asked me randomly, like two years ago. He goes, what kind of ring do you want?

I was like, ready?

Yes. I literally hyperventilated and I was like, what?

What do you mean? Yeah, because at this point you're only, what, like a year in. Barely about a year and a half. Yeah.

Before I got pregnant, you asked me what kind of ring I wanted and.

Size and all of that kind of stuff.

So you knew.

Yeah, I did. And then obviously, you know, we got pregnant and then had a baby. And so it was just like, you know what? Let's. We're on our own schedule.

Yeah. I wanted just to take one thing at a time. And I didn't know how I was going to feel during my pregnancy. You know, you hear all these like, horror stories about like, ah, it was the worst time ever. And I'll never want. I loved it. Like, I want to have like an entire basketball team.

Oh, my God.

Yeah. Like just starting five or the whole squad starting five.

Easy. To be clear. And I mean, at the. You know, in hindsight I would have been. I should have been like, you know, just do it whenever you want. But I wanted to feel like me also. Like, nothing has ever been the way that I pictured it, which has been way better than what's actually happened. But for the proposal, I was like, listen, I had this one experience and I just want to be able to feel like how I've always pictured.

Yeah.

I felt and and he did a beautiful job at making all my dreams come true.

Yeah. And I think that's like what people kind of forget is like, I've picked out a ring before, you know, on national television. You, you know, you've been in a wedding dress on television. So it was like we wanted it instead of like, you know, feeling more or less rushed or like doing it not the way we imagined. So we kind of just took our time and I planned it. I knew she wanted to get engaged overseas. And so of course. Of course I was gonna say if you've ever met G, you know that.

Yeah.

So, yeah, I kind of like was in cahoots with her family, texting them.

In Madrid, which I wasn't expecting texts.

We were in Madrid.

[Trixie Mattel]

I knew it was gonna be after I gave birth. And we travel a lot, we just. We're always on the move. And I was like, okay, it's gonna be in one of these fun spots. Just. Cause he's a hopeless romantic and I know that he would wanna do something like that. And it never happened. It never happened. It didn't happen. And I kept doing my nails. Like the French manicure, the symphony, the bridal.

No Shocking pink. No. Bright red. Yeah.

[Trixie Mattel]

Just to be ready. Exactly. For like six months. And you know, I was starting to just be like, listen, when it happens, it happens. And in Madrid, I've been there, my family lives there. So it's something that's. It's a place that's very close to my heart, but we don't have any connections there. And I know that he knows what I like and all that stuff. So I was like, it's probably not gonna be there just because, like, how. How is he going to. How's he going to pull it off? Yeah, he was texting my family behind my back.

Like, and there's a language barrier there, so there's a lot of like Google Translate going on.

You were wonderful. It worked out fantastic.

This beautiful park, what is it called? Right.

Parque del Retiro. So it's like the Central park of Madrid, essentially. Yeah.

So we found this beautiful spot and it was really cool to be able to have Heath there. That was my favorite that we'll be able to go back to, you know? Yeah.

Honestly, the photos popped up on. On your Instagram and I about threw my phone out the window. I was like, this is the most stunning. And like the Heath there, like, everything was just so, like, poetic and like romantic and it just felt so intimate. And, like, perfectly timed. Like, I don't know how I can gather all that from social media, but I'm looking at it. I'm like, this is stunning.

He's the best thing that's ever happened to me in my entire life. Like, I was meant to be a mom.

I don't know how I like not tearing up right now, because usually every single time, I'm just like, I love being a mom. Heath is wonderful, and he's just like. It was always him. I don't know how to explain it, but, like, as soon as. Like, I was, you know, carrying him, and as soon as I saw him, I was just like this. It was always you.

I'm not gonna make it.

Oh. So one thing that I haven't really said, I don't think even to you was. I don't know if you felt it after I gave birth, there's, like, this super blissful period where you're just, like, so serene, and you fall so deep in love. Oh, God. I can't keep it together.

We're gonna be a wreck to bring the tissues.

Shut. I just fell, like, so much deeper in love with him. And then my baby is, like, the spitting image of him. And just the fact that I see them together and just. Yeah.

No, it is special. It's something. Yeah. It's hard to put into words, for sure.

Yeah. It's fantastic. And it's also really hard. It's super hard. You know, you. Like, whether you know it or not, like, you have certain expectations of how you're gonna feel, how you're gonna, you know, bond or. Or work together, and. And, you know, having a child is so challenging. And then navigating, you know, we had Heath at two years into our relationship, so like, still, like, learning about each other and growing together. And then now we have this little baby that's just fully dependent on you, and it was super challenging. Honestly, one of the hardest, most rewarding years of my life. Yeah.

It's a good way to put it. Yeah. Hardest thing, but the best thing.

And how's G as a mom? Are you?

Yeah, I mean, she was. She said earlier, literally born to be a mother. Like, literally born. And I didn't really. When I first met her, I didn't really know that, but, like, as soon as she got pregnant and, like, she started carrying him, it was like, you. Like. Because she had such a beautiful pregnancy, like, I didn't expect that. I'll be honest. I was a little scared.

He was waiting for me. I was waiting for him to have, like, a gremlin.

I was waiting for the shoe job. But she enjoyed being pregnant so much. And then it was like. Like I said, it was like, it's. It was like, you're born to be a mom, and it's been beautiful to watch. And he loves her so much. Little mama's boy.

I was like, he's an eggplant now. Like, don't you care? Like, no. Why don't you?

Yeah, exactly. I was like, oh, that's. Yeah, that's cool. But, like, so I was really worried. I was like, am I gonna feel those expectations? Yeah, I was like, am I gonna feel that immediate, like, connection? And I did. I'm not. Not everybody does sometimes. It takes time. But, like, I. The second I saw him, I was like, oh, well, this is my life now. This is all I want. Like, you know, that's so. It's special. It's really.

I love that. What would you say is, like, your best parenting advice now?

The first thing I'll say, like, as a father, because the. You know, the child is so dependent on the mom those first few months, like, you're literally just there. Like, there's not much you can do, right? You can change the diapers. You can do that. But she's. She has the milk. She has. I mean, they literally. I read somewhere, they literally, like, for six months, they still think they're, like, a part of you. So the biggest thing I'll say out there for, like, fathers to be is, like, do everything you can to support the mom, because you can't really help too much with the baby itself. You know what I mean? You can feed it when you pump and things like that, but otherwise, it's like, whatever the mom needs because she's the one doing 99% of the work.

Those first few months.

Six, seven, eight months. So that's the biggest piece of advice I can say. Whatever the mom needs. What? Because it's crazy to watch how much. Yeah, mom needs.

Yeah, because you just want to protect them and nothing bad in the world can ever touch them. Like, no girl is ever gonna say no to him. Adults.

But I think now, you know, after just realizing how much I love him and how much I want to protect him, I also don't want to. And you've had this fear forever. Like, he thinks I'm gonna be, like, this helicopter mom to, like, bubble boy him and all this stuff. And that instinct is there, that urge is there. But kids are washable is the best thing that I've heard. And so I'm kind of applying that to a blanket of things. You know, whether it's like he falls and he gets hurt or he wants to, you know, just shove his hand in the spaghetti or the food. And like, typically that would just kind of give you anxiety and a lot of different stages of life. But as long as I have that in my head, kids are washable.

It's been. It's been honestly, like, a little.

So it's five years of it being released. It's seven years I filmed. Okay. So I filmed in 2018. So I've been in this like, first of all, I was in limbo for two years, and then after it got released, 2020, I think that was just such a blessing and a curse at the same time, because it. A lot of people watched it that didn't. That weren't going to watch it.

And then everybody dated the same exact way, which was a real Truman show momentum. Oh, my God. Like, am I really. Yeah, it's like a simulation. Yeah.

So, you know, after I wrapped my head around that, I think just the way that it's evolved is I didn't think that it was going to work past my season. Yeah. I couldn't really quite put my finger on it. And then it's been, you know, duplicated and things have, you know, expanded to Japan and Germany, Brazil, uk everywhere. And I didn't think anybody was gonna watch it.

I'm literally just in shock. Like, whoa. So just in that scale itself, like, I. I'm so honored to be a part of something that's just like, captured a lot of people and to see people believe in it. Not just, like, in the audience, but people actually being married. Yeah.

But a lot of the men on my season were the same way.

As women and if they're getting their information from like TikTok and Instagram. Yeah. That's no wonder why everyone's coming out. Like you, you are in a relationship and you just doing this for clout and you're just trying to get famous. It's just like.

That didn't get taken away from me and I didn't become bitter. I just think that now I've just evolved so much into the person that I always wanted to be always. And. And that's a huge blessing. But it. It didn't come without, like, scars and trial and tribulation and just like me, like, literally in the fetal position just being like, why? Like, why, why, why? And so I just think that that girl that walked into the pods did everything that she ever wanted to.

Oh, my God. I really appreciate you being so vulnerable. I really do. Because I can relate in so many ways. And, like, I'm not as far out, but I just remember walking in and like, everyone's like, so, do you think you're gonna get married? I'm like, yeah. So optimistic. No, without a doubt. I was like, I've seen it work. People are married. People are still married. And I'm like, why not me? Like, I was so. I'm like, yeah, 100%. There was no doubt in my head that I wasn't getting married until I wasn't getting married. I just. And, like, that part of me is still there, but I'm wiser. I'm still optimistic, and I'm still very hopeful, but I'm not as innocent. Like, I feel like it takes a part of your, like, innocence away in a sense where you're like, I'm gonna go into things a little bit more guarded, a little more sheltered, a little more careful. So I can relate to you. But I am proud of that girl. I'm so proud of her.

I've always just kind of veered left. And if this were to come up now, while it's, you know, as big as it is. Yeah, I would have done it. Yeah. I would have had the time of my life. I would have known, like, what the outcome could have been. But I don't think that would have scared me.

If anything, I probably just would have asked, like, deeper questions because. Yeah. By the end, by the time I met Damien, I was like, oh, yeah, maybe I should have asked you that. Yeah.

A lot of things happened where, like, just in general, if. If you have, you know, friends in your circle that get married and are at different life stages or this or that, like, you don't really relate.

And with us, it was. It became such a close, close friendship. And then I think as soon as everyone got paired off and started dealing with their own things, it just kind of didn't mesh as much as it did before. But I still, like everybody. I've talked to everybody still to this day.

I was gonna say, I think it's one of those things where, like, when you're in the room with them again, it's like, no time is fine.

Like, I couldn't connect with, you know, other people that have gone married and all that stuff because they weren't in a. You know, to my knowledge, they weren't in a toxic relationship for two years afterwards and got told not at the altar. Like, it got very isolating.

I literally, I was told flat out, like, I don't trust you. And I was like, okay, so. So this just worked. This just worked for me. Because we have the same sense of humor too. So like we can, we can just joke about everything. And it's not said with, you know, a hidden intention. It's not jealousy or hidden feelings or anything like that. Like. No, like, I genuinely understand.

And, like, you see it? Like, you see it. Yeah, we were. Yeah. And he asked me to be his girlfriend on the show.

I'll never forget. When I was going, so I, like, grabbed her hands, right? We, like, planned this whole thing, me and all the other housemates.

It was really cute. You know, we had rose petals and all kinds of stuff. And I walk her down. Or. No, my friend walks like. He's Chris Harrison.

And so I grab her hands and her face, like, low key, like, goes white for a second.

Yeah, I panicked.

I feel like she had, like, PTSD of, like, is he gonna ask me? You know?

Yeah, yeah, yeah.

And so I had this whole speech planned out, and I saw her face. I was like, I'm just gonna cut to the Spanish parts. Like, I don't want her to pass out. So I kind of like, yeah, I kind of sped it up, and I was like, no, no, no, don't ask, girlfriend. You know what I mean? And then, yeah, that's gonna be my girlfriend.

And you can literally see it in my face. I go.

[Katya Zamolodchikova]

She's like, yeah. She's like, yes. Yeah, yeah. It was, like, a really funny moment. Another one we can look back at.

[Giannina Gibelli]

Yeah, but you, like, had a moment after Bachelor in Paradise, and you opened up about some mental health issues and things that you were struggling with. I would love to talk more about that and why it was so important for you too.

[Katya Zamolodchikova]

Yeah, that would have been summer of 2019, so about four, five years ago, which is crazy to think. Come a long way since then. I think G, the word she used earlier was isolated. And I think coming off these shows, you feel very isolated and you feel very alone, and you feel like the whole world has watched and you guys kind of did 190 countries is crazy. But mine, you know, is just like, you know, this rapid fan bachelor nation in, you know, the United States, and. But it feels like the real world is just crumbling around you. And I had a terrible experience, and I remember for ours is a little different because once the show's over, I probably only waited, like, two weeks before it aired. Thank God.

[Giannina Gibelli]

That's insane.

[Katya Zamolodchikova]

Yeah, it was. It's such a fast turnover for us. But I just remember, like, I was literally in the fetal position. You know, I didn't leave my apartment for my condo for probably, God, I would say close to two and a half months, three months, because I was just so terrified. I literally was so in my own head that I thought I was gonna walk out the door and people were gonna, like, throw drinks at me, you know, you're just in such a deep depression, and it was hard to get out of that. You know, I have an incredible family and incredible support system, and they helped a ton. But even sometimes it's hard to relate to them, right? It's like, you know, and even if they try to understand, you're like, you don't understand what it's like. Like, I'm trending number one on Twitter, and it's not good. You know what I mean? Like, it's not a good thing. And so it takes a while to kind of crawl out of that hole. And I was down there. And I always say, like, everybody has a rock bottom, right? Everybody has a rock bottom. Somebody's rock bottoms are deeper than others. But everybody's hit it. And so, you know, everybody has found their way out, no matter how deep it is. And so I found my way out. You know, I started therapy, which I always kind of scoffed at. Therapy. And then, you know, you hit rock bottom, you go on reality tv, and it's like. Like, it has saved. You know, it saved me in more ways than one. I still go to therapy, so that was just. It was a hard time in my life. And I think kind of what she said earlier, like, kind of have to go through that, right? You got to get those scars, build that scar tissue to become who you are. And I was very jaded. Like, I trusted nobody because I was similar to her. I was. I had such a good experience on the Bachelor. I got my heart broken, everything. But, like, I had a really good experience. So I wanted paradise, like, all walls down.

[Giannina Gibelli]

Yeah.

[Katya Zamolodchikova]

I was just like, this is gonna be great. I'm gonna have so much fun. And then it was just, like, didn't. It was the complete opposite. And so I was very jaded towards tv, reality tv, towards people, towards friends. I was just like, you all. Like, you all backstabbed me.

[Giannina Gibelli]

Yeah.

[Katya Zamolodchikova]

So that was. It was a hard time. And I think meeting these Incredible people in my life. And meeting G. And just being able to have that experience on another show where it was a good experience was healing.

[Giannina Gibelli]

Yeah.

[Katya Zamolodchikova]

For me, you know, it was very healing. And so I kind of came out of that, like, with a new, like, lease on life. I was like, oh, like, it can be good, you know, and I can meet somebody great off of it. And it's not all people, like, trying to get ahead, you know, there for the right reasons, quote, unquote. Not to be too bad. Sure. But, yeah, so it was a hard time in my life, but, you know, I made it out. And I. Whenever people ask about it, I always say, you know, like, therapy is probably what saved me, saved my life. And so I highly recommend that stuff for everybody. And.

Yeah, big therapy advocate over here.

[Katya Zamolodchikova]

Yes, yes, yes.

I'm also in therapy.

[Katya Zamolodchikova]

Yeah.

And it takes time. People always think, like, one therapy session is gonna heal. It's like, no, you. Not only. You got to find the right therapist. I went through three or four until I found the right one. And then she's fantastic. And, you know, and then it just. You kind of slits a slow. A slow ride to get back to where you feel like yourself again. But, yeah, I mean, it's. It's. I'm glad I went through all of that, because here I am and got a beautiful family and everything, and.

[Giannina Gibelli]

And you're a DJ now.

[Katya Zamolodchikova]

DJ now I've got my dream job. And that honestly never would have happened if it wasn't for paradise, because I think that was like. Like, what are you gonna do now? You know? And I was like, I had this love for music, and I had this love for DJing, and I was like, I'm gonna do it. Cause if I came out, you know, quote unquote, like, in a relationship or anything like that, like, I probably wouldn't have taken that leap.

[Giannina Gibelli]

Yeah.

[Katya Zamolodchikova]

Now, you know, I got my dream career, dream job, dream girl, dream family living. Yeah, exactly.

[Giannina Gibelli]

I know that's right. Dream, dream, dreams.

Of course. I get some ptsd. I don't watch Paradise. Don't watch paradise anymore. It's a ptsd. But.

I remember I was with. I was with Hannah Berner, and we were. We were hanging out, went on her podcast, and she was going through, like, her villain era. If you will on her show. And I told her, I was like, listen, like audience out there, like, you always gotta remember your king, your queen. The best person, person you love isn't as good as you think. And the villain, the person you hate isn't as bad as you think. Like, we're all human. We all make mistakes. We're all right there in the middle somewhere. Like, nobody's perfect and nobody's this perfect villain. You know what I mean? So I always say that, like, try and just keep level headed as an audience person.

I always try to give that advice too. Like whenever I get the chance. They're like, do you want to tell the people anything? I'm like, please be nice. Yeah, we all go home and cry at night. Like, we're all fighting for our fucking lives.

The paradise where we film the, like, resort, if you will. It is, and I think it's as well known, but like, there's no air conditioning. It's open air. We're all dying. We're. We're drinking dehydrated. We're sweating. There's, you know, there's monkeys and Snakes in our beds. Like. Like.

No, crazy.

[Katya Zamolodchikova]

Like we would be sleeping in the middle of the night and there'd be a monkey run across.

[Giannina Gibelli]

No, we all pop up.

[Katya Zamolodchikova]

You know what I mean? So that's another thing is, like, when we're in that weird bubble, it's like we are not ourselves.

[Giannina Gibelli]

You're trying to fall in love and.

[Katya Zamolodchikova]

There'S monkeys over there and you're not sleeping. You know what I mean? So it's a very strange environment. So I think I always say, like, give people grace because you have no idea what the environment is like. It's crazy. It's crazy.

Wait, no, that's insane. That's a great one.

And I think from what I've heard, they might be moving paradise to a new location. I don't know that's true or not, but that location that was filmed for six seasons was a lot.

There's no glass anywhere. It's all open air. And it was hot. June in Mexico. Brutal.

Snakes. Was there ever personally a snake in your bed?

Not a snake, no. Crabs. Lots of crabs in the beds.

So moving past the animals, do you have any secrets to I. That won't land you in blind prison?

[Trixie Mattel]

I don't know if this is really a secret, but I don't. I don't know. Maybe you can let me know if. If this sort of thing happened to you. So I always say that it was presented to me like a social experiment, and I felt it through and through like a social experiment. So when I was in the pods and no one's talked about this, when I was in the pods, I really felt like I was just. I had epiphanies. I had outer body experiences, I had anxiety attacks. Like, I was mentally going through a lot of just realizations. And I felt so in tune with my body. I was connected to everything. Like, I felt your energy. I could. I could see auras. I went through some crazy spiritual awakenings in there. And I was just taken out of my environment and put into something. And just everything around me really just vacuum sealed me. And I literally look back at that moment of those nine days in there and just being like, I reached enlightenment in the pods. It was insane.

[Giannina Gibelli]

Yeah. You know why? Because there's no way to prep anyone for that sequester. Sequester. Yeah, that if, like that sequester. You don't. They're like, oh, we're gonna take your phones and your Tablets and blah, blah. And you're just like, okay, whatever. A few days without my phone, I'll survive. No, no, no. You don't have your tablet in your phone, but you have your thoughts and you have everything.

[Katya Zamolodchikova]

You.

Then you have other people's thoughts, like, from the pods in the lounge. And you're sitting there and you're like, what the Is actually going on? And you guys, correct me if I'm wrong, you didn't, like. Like, where did y'all stay?

So we stayed.

Okay, careful.

Yeah, careful, careful. We ended up staying in a hotel. Yes.

I like liter alarm clock. You know those retro ones with the radio. I like, they thought they were so slick. They took, like, the antenna and, like, taped it down, and I'm like, I'm. Surely I can get a signal. I, like, untaped it. I taped it to the wall. And I'm listening to, like, country music in the morning. Like, I couldn't find a station, but I just needed something. No one ever knows. Knew that story. But, yeah, if there's a secret alarm in there, play some music, because you're. You're literally there with just your thoughts, your imagination. And then you go to, like, the lounges the next day, and someone's telling you a story about how they love your man. And you're like, right, the man that I just dreamed about all night. Like, it's the most insane. Yeah, I can see. Yeah.

[Trixie Mattel]

And then at the end of the day, you're also develop in my. You know, developing the sixth sense that you can, like, connect with this person through a wall. And so it was just. Just like, you open up so much, and. And if you don't, it's not gonna work, but if you do.

[Giannina Gibelli]

Yeah, I leaned into it heavy. Yeah.

[Katya Zamolodchikova]

That's what you got to do. I always say that, like, you can go in being like, oh, maybe I'll fall in love, but you gotta go in, like, ready to fall walls down. We were three months without a phone. Isn't that wild? We were three months. So talk about enlightenment.

I remember writing, like, this is weird to say, but, like, I was writing my proposal and being like, damn, I'm smart. Cause I was Like, I. You know, I was just so in it. Yeah, just so. And I had a moment like that, too, where we were in the gym in. God, I think I was in the Bahamas, maybe. We were in a gym. We get, like, gym time. And the treadmill had WI fi. Got onto Facebook, and I DMed my mom.

I was like, mom, you aren't safe.
