Katya Zamolodchikova
So we had.
Trixie Mattel
We had a date and we talked for seven hours. It felt like.
Katya Zamolodchikova
You know what would have made it better?
Trixie Mattel
Food.
Katya Zamolodchikova
If there was a wall between us.
A.D.
Love is one.
Trixie Mattel
Hilarious. Oh, my God, it's. You just got that. You just got that.
Katya Zamolodchikova
No, I knew that. I walked up.
A.D.
Oh, shit.
Trixie Mattel
I walked up and was like, okay, that's crazy, right?
A.D.
What's the reality?
Trixie Mattel
What's the reality?
Katya Zamolodchikova
Okay.
A.D.
Hi. Hi. Okay. I'm obviously very, very excited to be talking to both of you today.
Trixie Mattel
Thank you.
A.D.
Welcome to what's the Real.
Katya Zamolodchikova
Thank you.
Trixie Mattel
So glad to be here. Yes, we're very excited to talk to you, too.
A.D.
No joke.
Trixie Mattel
Yes, Beyond.
Katya Zamolodchikova
Oh, no. I just want to tell you, my wife, she will not really watch reality tv. There's, like, two shows. Love is Blind is one of them. And I was like, babes. And finally she got into it and she was, like, fangirling over you the entire season. She's like, AD Is my girl. Come on.
Trixie Mattel
You know what?
Katya Zamolodchikova
Yeah, no joke.
A.D.
Day mate. Interview over. That's all I needed to hear, really.
Trixie Mattel
Listen, I'm just gonna put the hat low. Fucks with AD Yeah, beyond the whole time.
A.D.
That makes me so happy.
Trixie Mattel
I feel like we would have gone to school together and have been friends.
A.D.
100%, because you were my friend while I was growing up. I'll take that literally. Best friends in my head. I'll take that fashionista. The coolest girl in school. Like you were.
Trixie Mattel
Aw, thank you.
A.D.
I was you, you were me.
Trixie Mattel
We would have been besties.
A.D.
Yeah.
Trixie Mattel
Yeah, for sure.
A.D.
100%.
Trixie Mattel
You would have been in the friend group too, babes. Don't worry.
Katya Zamolodchikova
I don't know. I may not have been. It's okay. I don't know.
A.D.
Before we go further, let's talk about our friends here.
Katya Zamolodchikova
Because I take these everywhere with me.
Trixie Mattel
So it's a little bit of a stress ball. It's, you know, very, very tactile. It helps for me to not pick my nails in the middle of an interview or when I start getting a little antsy. I can squeeze it. Okay. She has one that's a little bit softer and a gel insert. And then I didn't even know. I must be psychic, but brought you.
A.D.
A purple, my favorite color.
Katya Zamolodchikova
She knew we're going to have to.
A.D.
Get these on set because I didn't real. I am a fidgeter, and this is definitely feeling good in my head.
Katya Zamolodchikova
Problematic, though, a little bit, because I feel like one day someone is going to be like, that's really distracting.
A.D.
You need to stop.
Katya Zamolodchikova
I have them constantly on our show. I like, take them to other people's shows, and I'm always just kind of like, yeah, doing stuff like that. It's problematic.
Trixie Mattel
They have all different kinds in the house. That's crazy.
Katya Zamolodchikova
Yeah.
A.D.
Oh, my gosh. Okay, so we just expressed that we love love. We love. Love is blind.
Katya Zamolodchikova
Yes.
A.D.
Here on what's the Reality? That's my favorite topic. So I would love to hear you guys love story. How you met, how you looked at Miranda and was like, yep, that's my person. Like, walk me through this lesson.
Katya Zamolodchikova
We're just talking about this.
Trixie Mattel
The other day you started, babe, you're better at the story than I am.
A.D.
Okay, so karaoke was involved. I feel there was.
Trixie Mattel
Yeah.
Katya Zamolodchikova
We met in 2015. This is why we were talking about it, because we were like, wow, we've known each other for 10 years.
Trixie Mattel
Known each other for 10 years.
Katya Zamolodchikova
So we met in 2015, and Raven was hosting a karaoke night at this.
Trixie Mattel
Bar in the gay land.
Katya Zamolodchikova
In the gay land. And I just so happened to be there with a few of my friends, and we started talking. I remember just being at the bar itself, and you came up next to me, and I looked at her and she looked at me, and I had this overwhelming feeling in that moment, before we had even spoken, I was like, I'm going to know her. It was. It was very odd. And. And it wasn't like, oh, I know who. Like, oh, that's Raven Simone. Because I recognized her. But it was like, oh, I. Like, there's something deeper. There's something different.
Trixie Mattel
It was something.
Katya Zamolodchikova
It was a different hit. And we started talking and I think you invited me. Yeah, you invited me to your house party the following week.
Trixie Mattel
So I was leaving to go to the View and I had a house party in my house where sometimes if you meet the right people, they still talk. And I invited her to it. It's where all of my exes came, all of my old friends. Everybody was there.
A.D.
Are we having that party next year? This year?
Trixie Mattel
Honey, I'm not allowed. I'm married now. I don't do this.
A.D.
Oh, don't do the party yet.
Katya Zamolodchikova
That party was. It destroyed the house. Like, we were talking about this the other day because we just bought a new house. And I was like, we will never have a party like that at our home.
Trixie Mattel
It was so beautiful. It was so fantastic.
Katya Zamolodchikova
The toilets had to be replaced.
Trixie Mattel
Yes.
A.D.
Wait, was it beautiful or no?
Katya Zamolodchikova
She said the debauchery was beautiful.
Trixie Mattel
It was fantastic.
Katya Zamolodchikova
It was like Raven lost, like all her nails. Her.
Trixie Mattel
I had stiletto nails that were out to here because I was doing the view, and one popped all the way off because of what happened in the pool.
Katya Zamolodchikova
It was insane.
A.D.
I'm mad I missed this era.
Trixie Mattel
I'm mad you did too. I'm mad you did. It was fantastic.
Katya Zamolodchikova
But she invited me to that party and I said, yes, but before I come to your party, I'm going to need to have like a one on one date with you. Like, I'm gonna. I'm not just gonna come to this random party. And so we had a day date.
Trixie Mattel
And we parked in one of her favorite neighborhoods and I brought her like a bag of crayons because I'm a child. And we talked for seven hours. It felt like into the night where I invited her to a friend of mine's birthday party and we just stayed the whole day together.
Katya Zamolodchikova
It felt like seven hours, but it was actually ten. It was like we.
A.D.
In reality. Ten hours. Yeah.
Katya Zamolodchikova
No, it was crazy. We literally were in the car. It was a very hot day. And we were going to sit outside at the park at lacma, but it was too hot to sit outside. So we were in the car in the air conditioning from 2 to 10pm and then she was like, oh, my Friend's having this birthday party, just talking.
Trixie Mattel
And you know what that is?
Katya Zamolodchikova
It's like.
Trixie Mattel
I mean, you just talk and talk and. It wasn't a phone there. I turned my phone off. I'm very. I'm known for doing that and just learning about her and our traumas. We trama. Bond.
Katya Zamolodchikova
You know what would have made it better?
Trixie Mattel
Food.
Katya Zamolodchikova
If there was a wall between us.
Trixie Mattel
Hilarious.
A.D.
Love is blind, honey.
Trixie Mattel
Not all the time.
A.D.
Not all the time.
Katya Zamolodchikova
It's literally what you did, though.
A.D.
Literally what I did.
Katya Zamolodchikova
I sat for hours, talking.
A.D.
Hours. Hours. Some of the longest dates were like four hours.
Trixie Mattel
Do you still like to talk to people now that you've had that experience? Is it the same thing?
A.D.
Oh, my God. I'm fully engaged and I love talking to my fiance.
Katya Zamolodchikova
Yeah, I noticed that right away, by the way. And I was like, it's gorgeous.
A.D.
Thank you. Honey. He's racing. No, that's. That's Ollie. He did Love is Blind. Oh, my God.
Trixie Mattel
It's. You just got that? You just got that?
Katya Zamolodchikova
No, I knew that.
Trixie Mattel
I walked up and was like.
A.D.
Oh, shit.
Trixie Mattel
I walked up and was like, okay.
Katya Zamolodchikova
And I knew that before even. I'm just. You guys. Hi, Ollie.
Trixie Mattel
Oh, my gosh.
Katya Zamolodchikova
She's dead. Oh, my gosh.
Trixie Mattel
Got it.
A.D.
Yeah, that's him.
Trixie Mattel
That's crazy, right?
Katya Zamolodchikova
That's so cool.
Trixie Mattel
So cool. We're very happy. I'm having such a moment. Congratulations.
A.D.
Yes, of course. Yes, of course. Okay.
Katya Zamolodchikova
She's not. She's not gonna host the party, though. That would ruin everything, so don't worry.
A.D.
But you can give me the details of how to throw sex, period.
Trixie Mattel
I'll get you a really good bachelorette party. Better than the one that you had on tv.
A.D.
I know that was right.
Katya Zamolodchikova
That's for sure.
Trixie Mattel
I know that's right.
Katya Zamolodchikova
Oh, my God. Whoa.
A.D.
Yeah.
Katya Zamolodchikova
That was just such a weird moment of connectivity in my brain.
Trixie Mattel
My wife sometime. Buffers.
Katya Zamolodchikova
I was going to say I was really buffering. And now I'm fully. Helios.
Trixie Mattel
We're so excited. Okay, keep going.
A.D.
That makes me so happy.
Katya Zamolodchikova
Hey, Ollie. Hilarious.
A.D.
Okay. Now that we got him out the way, first of all, I'm never going to hear the end of that. He's going to be like, they know exactly who I am.
Katya Zamolodchikova
We.
A.D.
We know. We know.
Trixie Mattel
Only reality show. I watch that. In Love on the Spectrum.
A.D.
Oh, God.
Trixie Mattel
You have to.
A.D.
You have to literally finish.
Katya Zamolodchikova
We binged it real fast.
A.D.
Obviously. We're all love love lovers. We just love love. Did you guys ever imagine that you would find a love that looks like the love that you have right now. Is this something that you thought was possible for you?
Trixie Mattel
I did. I am a big believer in manifesting what you want and making a relationship match myself rather than what other people want me to. So gone through many ducklings to figure it out and to figure out myself. But I always knew I would marry someone that would make me better, that would take care of me, that I would love, that I would want to take care of, and someone that would help me become better in all aspects of my life. And when I met her, I was like, you're such a lesbian mom. I love you.
A.D.
What's a lesbian mom? Is it what it sounds like?
Trixie Mattel
It's kind of what it sounds like. But, like, for me, just for me. She's like my mom, you know, she's like.
Katya Zamolodchikova
She's referring to the innate, I think, maternal nurture, caretaking energy that I have.
A.D.
You always had that energy, or does she bring it out of you?
Katya Zamolodchikova
No, I feel like I've always kind of had it. I, from the time I was little, like, wanted to take care of babies, and I was a mom's helper. So, like, I literally, at the age of, like, 5 and 6, went around my neighborhood, and I was like, hi, can I be your mommy's helper? And I'd watch babies, you know, with the mom still in the house. And then when I started elementary school, I started to volunteer, which wasn't really volunteering. I was like seven, but I would, like, go sit at the daycare and then just play with the younger kids. So it was always in me. And I begged my mom to get pregnant. And then she did. I was like, I know. I had no idea, but I really wanted a baby. Yeah. And she had one for me, so that was sweet. And. Yeah. No, it's always kind of been.
A.D.
Yeah.
Katya Zamolodchikova
In my bones.
A.D.
Yeah. So tell me about the proposal.
Trixie Mattel
Oh, God.
A.D.
What?
Katya Zamolodchikova
Oh, God.
Trixie Mattel
Oh, God. Okay.
Katya Zamolodchikova
Such a story.
Trixie Mattel
Such a story.
Katya Zamolodchikova
Nothing like your proposal, I'm sure.
Trixie Mattel
No, not at all.
Katya Zamolodchikova
The one we saw and the one we didn't see.
Trixie Mattel
Okay. So I'm also a weirdo, which those of know. Those who know me, know me. So I. It was Covid.
A.D.
Okay.
Trixie Mattel
And so she's in the house, and I get this voice in my head. I swear it sounded like Barry White. He's like, marry her.
Katya Zamolodchikova
What?
Trixie Mattel
Very scary. I hear voices. It's another conversation. And I was like, okay, it's now or never. Because in my line of work and the way that I was raised, I Never thought that marriage would actually happen. I just fantasized about it and wanted to manifest it. But I never really had time to sit down and take that leap because work was always my number one lady. And so sitting at home, Covid already got a job. So, like, not worried about it. Really not trying to hustle. And I was like, okay, I'll listen to this voice. So I go on, David Yurman.
A.D.
We love some David.
Trixie Mattel
I love a David.
A.D.
I love a David.
Trixie Mattel
And then I was like, here's just a small thing. Yeah, I don't really want to go balls out because I'm cheap anyway. So I say, babes, let's get in the car. I put on a little outfit. She's, like, wrapped up or super cute. And I want to take you to this spot that I have been going to since I was younger. It's one of the most beautiful spots in California to me. It's off of Poa Road by Los Virginess, and it's all the way up there. So I'm driving. I'm driving. I'm like, look at that. Look at that. She's like, I've been here before. I'm like, yeah, but have you been in this spot? I go up there, and this day, it's the most overcasty, the most foggy. You cannot see the ocean as far as the eye can see. But I've already made up my mind, and I am not a quitter.
A.D.
This is happening. This is happening.
Trixie Mattel
So I get her out of the car and I say, look at the view.
Katya Zamolodchikova
And I said, I can't see shit. No, she said, you know, I really wish I could remember. I have a very good memory, and I really remember most of our life together. But this moment, I think I, like, blacked out because I don't remember exactly what she said, but what I do remember. What I do remember.
Trixie Mattel
No, you mean the love part. Yeah. I don't remember what I said, but the love part.
Katya Zamolodchikova
You spoke for a minute.
A.D.
No, you do black out. I definitely blacked out in mine as well.
Katya Zamolodchikova
Yeah.
Trixie Mattel
And I know what she does remember.
Katya Zamolodchikova
Is what I do remember is Raven said, and so I'm not gonna kneel. Cause I'm in Gucci. But will you marry me? She said, but will you marry me?
Trixie Mattel
But will you marry me?
Katya Zamolodchikova
And I'm not kidding. I look down, and she hands me the box, and I take the box, and I look up to say yes, and she's gone. I'm not kidding. I literally go, yeah.
Trixie Mattel
And I run across.
Katya Zamolodchikova
She runs Across.
Trixie Mattel
You guys don't ever do this. I run across, like, three lanes of traffic. Four lanes of traffic.
Katya Zamolodchikova
No, baby, it's a two.
Trixie Mattel
Well, it feels like three. Any, because you got a median. But it's two lanes of traffic. Okay. The two lanes of traffic, it felt like forever for me. And the reason I did that was because I have some mental issues. And I felt like I was in a dream. I didn't feel like I was. It was really happening. And I was like, well, let's test this world.
Katya Zamolodchikova
You're so crazy.
Trixie Mattel
I have issues. And so I ran back, and I'm still alive and we're here.
A.D.
So hold on, hold on, hold on, hold on.
Katya Zamolodchikova
I know.
A.D.
Hold on.
Trixie Mattel
It's weird.
A.D.
So you drive up to this beautiful overcasted view.
Trixie Mattel
Yeah.
A.D.
You say, step out and look.
Trixie Mattel
Yeah.
A.D.
Look at this beautiful world.
Trixie Mattel
It's just great.
A.D.
Say, I'm not going to kneel because I'm in Gucci. Will you marry me? Are you still running? While you're asking?
Katya Zamolodchikova
She didn't know.
Trixie Mattel
What I said I didn't know. But she said I was across the street. And she was like, yes. And I was like, great, I'm coming back. Aw.
A.D.
It's like you. Like when you send a risky text and you fling your phone.
Trixie Mattel
This is pretty much what just happened. Oh, my God. Like, in real life, I didn't have one of these.
A.D.
Yeah, yeah, yeah. I just had running.
Trixie Mattel
I took off running because it really didn't feel. I have some situations, but it really didn't feel like I was present or alive. I wasn't where my feet was.
Katya Zamolodchikova
It was also really scary because I know there was traffic confusion. It's one of those roads where it is just two lanes and the cars whip, they come fast. Like, the fact that she ran across that. If the timing had been any different, like, a car could have been coming around.
Trixie Mattel
Like, it was weird.
A.D.
It was weird.
Trixie Mattel
It was not in the right space.
Katya Zamolodchikova
No.
Trixie Mattel
But it's calmed down since.
A.D.
I love to hear that.
Trixie Mattel
And the universe wanted me to be here, I think.
A.D.
Thank you, universe.
Katya Zamolodchikova
Yeah.
A.D.
We're happy you're here.
Trixie Mattel
Thank you, universe. Thank you, universe.
A.D.
So this is not the David Yurman. No, this is not the David year.
Trixie Mattel
This is not. This is.
A.D.
That is.
Trixie Mattel
We made it past a few years. And every year I'm like, let's. Let's get a bigger one every year. Not every year.
Katya Zamolodchikova
Almost feels like I am the type of person who has never thought about their wedding. I was not. Like, I'm gonna be the girl to walk down the aisle in the dress and my dad and my mom and this. Never, ever thought about any of that. The only thing I ever thought about was my ring. So she gave me the David Yerman placeholder. I have to be careful how I say this, because I don't want to sound horrible, but it's like it was.
Trixie Mattel
Not the ring that she dreamed of. And I knew that, yeah, this was a ring that was a placeholder in Covid. My ultimate want was to take her to a jewelry store and pick it out. But we got married at the height of COVID and then as things progressed, coming out of lockdown, it was just really hard to get that world. So I was like, babes, you do your research online. I got you at every step of the way. So she's not crazy. I knew that she was going to go through that process.
Katya Zamolodchikova
Yeah. And we did. We had. We had such a ring journey because we worked with two jewelers. We had custom things made, and then, like, the first day that our rings arrived, ravens, like, diamonds fell out of her band. My ring, they had sized it. I couldn't even get it over my finger. We had really bad ring karma.
A.D.
Karma.
Katya Zamolodchikova
Yeah. It's really funny.
A.D.
But now we're great.
Trixie Mattel
How do you feel about your ring slash, the journey of getting a ring?
A.D.
Oh, such a good question. This is my dream ring.
Katya Zamolodchikova
So beautiful.
A.D.
He nailed it. We had conversations leading up to getting this ring. Yeah. I said this or nothing. To be completely honest. Like, I don't want anything less. But also, I was one of those girls. I didn't dream about my wedding dress. My wedding, like, whatever. So when I did that, Whatever. We'll call that from Love is Blind. That just was. That just happened to come together, you know, do you get to select or.
Katya Zamolodchikova
Have input in the ring that you get?
A.D.
No.
Katya Zamolodchikova
So the. The partner, the man just gets to choose it and present it for you.
A.D.
Yeah.
Katya Zamolodchikova
From a select. Pre.
Trixie Mattel
Selected, yeah. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. You need a new ring, girl.
A.D.
No, I hated it. This is.
Trixie Mattel
This is.
A.D.
He. He listened to everything I said, and I didn't say yes until he opened the box, just to be sure.
Katya Zamolodchikova
Okay.
A.D.
I don't think I said. I think I definitely blacked out. And thank God we have it recorded, because I still, to this day, I couldn't tell you exactly what he said. So I have to go watch it. And I'm like, did I even say yes? Did I? I don't know what happened.
Katya Zamolodchikova
It's a thing. It's a thing.
Trixie Mattel
It is yeah, because I feel that way, too.
Katya Zamolodchikova
Like, do you remember the vows that we said to each other on our wedding day?
Trixie Mattel
No, girl. No. I mean, I do remember our final song, though. Our final song, because we made our own playlist.
A.D.
Yeah.
Trixie Mattel
I got 99 problems but ain't one that hit me, hit me. That was what.
A.D.
Y'all are on to something.
Trixie Mattel
We're crazy.
A.D.
What was your first dance?
Trixie Mattel
99 problems but a bitch ain't 1. No.
Katya Zamolodchikova
You know what it was? It was Sinatra.
Trixie Mattel
Oh, yeah, that's right. That's right. You had Sinatra.
Katya Zamolodchikova
We went. It was Sinatra. And then we went into.
Trixie Mattel
Yeah, it was a.
Katya Zamolodchikova
It was a.
Trixie Mattel
It was a.
Katya Zamolodchikova
It was an unconventional wedding.
A.D.
Unconventional wedding just for us. You guys, like, chose to keep that pretty private and intimate.
Trixie Mattel
We were in the middle of COVID Yeah. Couldn't help it, right? You know, and.
Katya Zamolodchikova
Yeah, June 2020 is when we got married.
A.D.
So if it. If it weren't for Covid, do you think it would have been a bigger wedding, or did you.
Katya Zamolodchikova
Yes. I mean, I think that if we had. Had. Yes, because we would have wanted our family there. Like, my mom and dad weren't even there. My sister wasn't there.
Trixie Mattel
So they were on zoom.
Katya Zamolodchikova
Yeah, kind of.
A.D.
Kind of.
Katya Zamolodchikova
So I think that we absolutely would have wanted more people and closer friends. Like, there were. There were a lot of special people in our life who didn't get to be there, but we're gonna.
Trixie Mattel
But the one thing that I like about the way that our marriage has gone is we've gotten to display love and affection for ourselves and not the pomp and circumstance for others. Entertainment. I love that. So we now get to curate who's around us to renew a vow situation, and we know that that's gonna matter more. I love that. That that first union was just for us. And, like, the officiant. What's her name? I mean, not the offici. How do you say it? Sufficientator.
A.D.
Officiator.
Katya Zamolodchikova
Officiator.
Trixie Mattel
The officianator.
A.D.
Not the.
Katya Zamolodchikova
There's no.
Trixie Mattel
I like it. I like it. The way that is. The officiator was. Was there. And the person who let us use their house. Miss Debbie. Love you guys so much. And, like, two friends per person.
A.D.
Okay.
Trixie Mattel
And it was just enough. You know what I mean? So now we get to really go in and spend somebody else's money to make that happen.
A.D.
No, that's really beautiful. I think we're gonna do two weddings. Our first one is gonna be very small, courthouse style, very intimate, Just really close friends. Even if it's just us and like, parents or something like that. Very small. And then we'll probably do something bigger next year in London with more of his friends and family and stuff, so.
Trixie Mattel
Because it's nerve wracking, that first one.
A.D.
I can imagine.
Trixie Mattel
I mean, you know what it's like to even go through that moment. And every time she watches the show, she's like, I want to go dress shopping. I wanna go.
A.D.
You didn't do dress shop.
Katya Zamolodchikova
I bought her a Gucci. Honestly, love is blind was the thing that made me go, I want to. I want to go, like, try on a dress. It really was.
Trixie Mattel
Because it wasn't say yes to the dress.
Katya Zamolodchikova
No, it wasn't. And I used to watch say yes to the dress and it didn't hit me in the same way. I think I'm older now. I just was like, it's. That's a nice moment to feel that special and get to try on such beautiful fashion. Like, I just want the moment.
A.D.
What is your, like, ideal dress?
Katya Zamolodchikova
I don't even know. That's the thing. I want to look hot as fuck.
A.D.
I know. That's right.
Katya Zamolodchikova
That's it. Yeah, just like, ooh, yeah. Tight, like body boob. Let's go.
Trixie Mattel
Okay.
Katya Zamolodchikova
I have no ass.
Trixie Mattel
So you know you're working on it, babes.
Katya Zamolodchikova
I'm working on it.
Trixie Mattel
It's plumping up. It's pluffing up.
Katya Zamolodchikova
Yeah. I just want to feel like a princess.
A.D.
As you should.
Katya Zamolodchikova
Yeah.
A.D.
Yeah. So I just obviously recently got engaged and you guys have been married for a little bit.
Trixie Mattel
Five years.
A.D.
Five years.
Katya Zamolodchikova
Crazy.
A.D.
Praying for five. What is some advice that you guys would give to someone like me that's hoping to get to five years in a marriage? Like, what. What advice do you guys have?
Trixie Mattel
So our advice comes from a lesbian perspective. You have to also understand that there's a huge difference. I believe it's a little bit different. We both had cisgender relationships in our lives, so we'll definitely come from that aspect.
A.D.
But.
Trixie Mattel
But if I was to give you any advice, I would say, make sure you remember the reason you married him before you start asking to change stuff. And I feel like even we went through that moment. That's like the most universal thing. It's like, can you do this instead? Can you do this instead? And it's like, no, she. She did stuff that you love. That's why you married her. Don't try to conform it into what you feel you need in that one moment when you have a full life to lead.
A.D.
I can Appreciate that.
Katya Zamolodchikova
And I think that it's important to remember that when you're in a long term relationship, the style of love changes. So there literally is like passionate love and companionate love. And companionate love is what you enter in when you're in that longest term. And they say that around five years, you actually truly are in a space where you develop that best friendshipness. And I feel like Raven and I, and this is universal, but I feel like Raven and I are actually really in that space. We're entering that space like, like June will be five years for us. And I feel like we've had such a shift. I feel so much more secure. So I think remember that with companionate love, it doesn't mean like you maybe want to like jump someone's bones every five minutes. The love changes, but it's deeper and it's more honest and more pure in a way. And I think that just giving yourself room to be yourself also without judgment and let your relationship just have the hills and valleys.
Trixie Mattel
And don't compare your relationship to anybody else's either.
Katya Zamolodchikova
That's a big one. I mean, to not compare.
Trixie Mattel
But that's hard.
Katya Zamolodchikova
Marriage is a journey. It's a real journey. But I think that if you have found your mirror, that's the greatest gift in the world. And the mirror can be scary. Cause it can feel really honest. And don't forget about 50, 50, lean into that.
Trixie Mattel
And don't forget about 50 50.
Katya Zamolodchikova
Cause that's a gift. Yeah, 50, 50, 50, 50 is really.
Trixie Mattel
It'S like lean into it. The 5050 of it all.
Katya Zamolodchikova
Raven really loves 50 50. And her definition of 5050 is this. Babes, will you take out the trash? Raven will take out the trash. But I have to put the new bag in. Raven will be like 50, 50. Raven will be like, oh, I'm hungry. So she'll go to the fridge and she'll open the fridge door and she'll take the food out and she'll leave the fridge door open and she'll be like 50.
Trixie Mattel
But I bring that up real 50. I bring that up to say, kind of piggybacking of what she was saying before is like sometimes we go into relationships thinking that there are roles to be had. And as you start to become companions, you kind of have to let that go and say, you know what, we are in this life together. And sometimes I'm not going to close the refrigerator. Don't get mad at me if I don't just close it and love me. It's like that that's why I kind of interrupted you, babe. Because it's like. Goes hand in hand, even though I'm joking about. It's like after a while, yes, you're the guy. Yes, you should take the trash out. But then it's like, if he takes the trash out and he doesn't, it's okay. You can do it too sometimes. You know what I mean? It's. It's a companionship. It's a friendship at the end of the day with perks.
Katya Zamolodchikova
And I really think the biggest thing for people in relationships in general is to. And this is a. This was a hard one for me. So we all have messaging as we're growing up, and we have our friends telling us and leaving impressions on us as how do things should. How things should be. So I heard things a lot in my life, like, oh, well, if you stop having sex in your relationship, that means you're on the road to divorce. Oh, if he's not sleeping in bed with you and he's on the couch, that's the road to divorce. So I had all of these kind of things that I was looking for that would equal my biggest fear, and. Yeah. Which was a divorce. And I realized, like, those things are not universally true. If somebody. If you stop having sex in your relationship for a period of time, that's okay. There can be other reasons as to why it doesn't mean, oh, we're falling out of love. So I think that.
Trixie Mattel
But it also could be just check. Check the receipts.
Katya Zamolodchikova
Yeah, you.
Trixie Mattel
Exactly.
Katya Zamolodchikova
It's just. Exactly. And people will take certain things because those are. Have been true in the past. But I think my biggest marriage advice in regards to that is don't let outside influence impact you or dictate how you feel a relationship should be. And don't take old ideas, kind of like these. Historic. Historic.
A.D.
Historic.
Trixie Mattel
That is a mental health disorder.
Katya Zamolodchikova
I know, I know. That's why I'm. Don't take these, like, archaic. Don't take these archaic, archaic ways of. Of how a relationship or a marriage should be and then bring that into your world.
Trixie Mattel
Yeah. That ultimately were created by men because they were in charge of.
Katya Zamolodchikova
Yeah. Controlling the messaging. Yeah, exactly. That's been huge for me because I had a lot of fear initially. And as being an anxiously attached person, like, it was not. It was not fun for either of us.
A.D.
Yeah.
Trixie Mattel
How are you gonna step into your relationship in your marriage? Have you thought about it?
A.D.
I. I think about it every single day. Like. Cause I do kind of have preconceived notions of what a wife should be and what a husband should be. I really do. I can't even lie and say I don't. I just. I think something pretty special about Ali is he doesn't have any of those. He's very much like, this is a partnership. I'll do this, you do that. Now, does he leave every cabinet open? The refrigerator open, the toilet seat? He goes down now.
Trixie Mattel
No. Good for you.
A.D.
The trailer. He does go down, but, like, he's kind of like, oh, if the fridge is open, don't hate me for it. Like, he has that mindset where I'm just like, here we go. Another thing that I have to do. It's just like, I think I'm trying to come into this marriage and wipe away the things that I think should be. Because I don't know. I've never been in a marriage, and the marriages around me are not successful. They were not successful. So taking advice from them is not.
Trixie Mattel
It's always dangerous.
A.D.
Yeah, it's very dangerous. So I think. I think what you guys said is very powerful. Like, not listening to outside noise, creating our own environment, our own little world. Because in reality, it's just us.
Trixie Mattel
And you know what else happens, I think, a lot with women kind of like you expressed. Oh, I have to do everything. I have to do everything. And I was having this conversation with her and a writer that we were talking to, and I was like, that's our own misconception of having to do everything. Because if it does, he did it before you got there. Facts. He closed it beforehand. You know what I mean? He lived. He got this far without you.
A.D.
Very independent man.
Trixie Mattel
Very independent. So, like, you don't have to. To take things on. We choose to because we are feeding into what we think we should be.
A.D.
But then build resentment.
Trixie Mattel
And then build resentment. Just don't do it. Leave that open then.
Katya Zamolodchikova
Or just serious curiosity? I just have serious curiosity sometimes. Like, I came home the other day, and not just you, but we had someone else over. So it was not just you, but it was you. And another adult woman left our house and left with the doors open, and.
Trixie Mattel
I wasn't coming back.
Katya Zamolodchikova
After you had lunch and got gas. That's too long to leave the doors of our.
Trixie Mattel
Which door was open?
Katya Zamolodchikova
The back door and the front door.
Trixie Mattel
Was the gate closed? Was the gate closed? Was the gate.
Katya Zamolodchikova
And then you're gonna be secure. No, no, no. See, it's so hypocritical.
Trixie Mattel
Was the gate closed?
Katya Zamolodchikova
Because she's also, like, the biggest privacy.
Trixie Mattel
Security Person and spikes on my gate. But somebody on our gate. I love that, babes. Was the gate closed?
Katya Zamolodchikova
Our front door and our back door were wide open.
A.D.
Was the gate.
Trixie Mattel
Was the gate closed?
Katya Zamolodchikova
Yeah, the gate was closed.
Trixie Mattel
But our house.
Katya Zamolodchikova
And I'm just like, two adult women left a house like this. And it makes me worried about their. Their, how they survived before me. It does.
Trixie Mattel
Listen, I've only got robbed once, but I wasn't at the house when it happened. I closed everything. And then I think, how many times.
Katya Zamolodchikova
Have you lost your wallet?
Trixie Mattel
I have. I have problem. I.
Katya Zamolodchikova
How many with her license and credit cards?
Trixie Mattel
I've lost my wallet in my lifetime.
Katya Zamolodchikova
Probably around recognizable figure. Like someone has so many Simone licenses.
A.D.
Oh, no.
Trixie Mattel
Yeah, that's what I tell the dmv. Yeah, yeah, No, I do. I do. I do have. Absent mindedness was what she helps me with. And I think I left that door open because, yeah, I was absolute minded in that situation.
Katya Zamolodchikova
I know.
Trixie Mattel
But I also don't feel crazy about it because I. I closed the gate. If I'd have left the gate open and all that, I've been like, oh, my God, I need to get my life in order. But, like, if somebody comes over our gate.
A.D.
Yeah, they're going to. That a big deal for you? Like, did that turn into a big deal? Obviously, it's the first time you're hearing it, right?
Trixie Mattel
She's been doing very well.
Katya Zamolodchikova
No, I was just like, damn.
A.D.
Really? Like, it was just.
Katya Zamolodchikova
I was curious.
A.D.
He would have got a text immediately in all caps.
Katya Zamolodchikova
Yeah.
A.D.
Close the fucking door.
Trixie Mattel
Yeah, she does that too. This is just the first time she did that too.
Katya Zamolodchikova
No. Cause you haven't heard about any of the other shit. I just, I bury it now because I just love her through it. And you know what I mean, babes.
Trixie Mattel
I love you through it too.
Katya Zamolodchikova
You know what? I do. Thanks. That was such a cute declaration. You looked like you were coming out of the ground.
A.D.
You said that with your chest. You really.
Trixie Mattel
I love you too, Bess.
A.D.
You really did. It's the bird.
Katya Zamolodchikova
It's like a groundhog. I forgot what I. Oh. I could not get upset in that moment because nothing bad actually happened. It would be another story if, like, our dog was gone. Or it would be another story if, like, I walked into our house and there was a random stranger. You know, I'd be like, great, now I'm dying and it's my wife's fault. But, like, it didn't. It didn't. So I'm like, you know, next time I Just have to do more things and check when she leaves the house and. But 50, 50, 50, 50.
A.D.
I open it.
Katya Zamolodchikova
Yeah. She's like, I'm leaving the house. You got to lock it up.
Trixie Mattel
And you know what? If she opens it, I close it.
A.D.
Yeah.
Trixie Mattel
You know what I mean? Every time. Every, every time. That trash can.
Katya Zamolodchikova
That's intentional.
Trixie Mattel
Anyway. Any more?
A.D.
Yeah, I got a few more.

Trixie Mattel
I'm writing a book.
A.D.
Yes.
Trixie Mattel
It's going to be a whole memoir about that process and what I actually went through. It was an extremely crafted experience that has left scars that I know how to hide very well.
A.D.
Yeah, I can imagine.
Trixie Mattel
I would never put my children in the industry before the age of 18. And if they wanted to, I would be that parent and be like, you just need to go to school, learn your craft all the way through and through, and then you can go into the industry. Yeah, it's. It's hard. My journey was fulfilling, stressful, shiny and beautiful and traumatic. All of the things. It was a big old Gumbo.
A.D.
Yeah. I have such a random question. Please give it. If you actually were psychic and you could go back to 15 year old actual Raven yourself and you saw the way that your life was going to unfold today, would you continue that path or would you move things around for different.
Trixie Mattel
I would have come out earlier, saved myself some stress. I would have come out earlier, I would have gone to college sooner and I would have shifted gears. I would have taken the job to direct an episode of that's so Raven that I had that opportunity to do, but I felt like I was stressed. I had a lot of stuff going on and I couldn't direct, act and do it and deal with home life at the same time. So, yeah, there would have been some different choices that probably would have gotten me further in my career that I want to be that I didn't do. And I probably would have said no to some jobs after that. So, Raven, that I did that I was not okay with, but that's about it.
A.D.
Yeah. I watched your latest, you guys latest episode of the podcast and you guys are talking about success. And I just, I thought that was a beautiful conversation. One, because I feel like success is very singular and it kind of depends on your own experiences. I kind of want to dive into that a little bit. Do you feel successful?
Trixie Mattel
First of all, thanks for watching.
A.D.
Of course.
Trixie Mattel
Do I feel successful? I feel successful in certain aspects of my life. I got married. I'm not on any medication right now. Today, Today.
A.D.
One day at a time.
Trixie Mattel
Listen, that is a success story.
A.D.
Okay?
Trixie Mattel
I feel like Raven Simone has success. I feel like myself, which people are like, what? But Raven Simone is a brand that has been out there in the industry and then there's me who manipulates the brand. I feel like I have things and goals that I haven't reached because I knew I had to reach someone else's goals for the Raven Simone brand before I got to mine. And it kind of stunted what I wanted to do. But obviously I keep saying this, but since marrying her and helping each other grow, I will never not be grateful for the same that I gave to her, which is just the confidence to say, you know what? This is what I actually want. I'll be okay. And she was the only one rooting for me in. In a private setting, which is like in a corner. Go Ray.
Katya Zamolodchikova
Go ray.
Trixie Mattel
Not the 1990s hype up sound, but you know what I mean? And there's a lot of people in my industry and slash in my corner at the time of my change Was like, oh, this is dangerous. Be careful. You can't do this, you can't do that. And she didn't give me that anxiety. She was like, do what she wants to you and be fine. I was like, oh, okay, cool, thanks.
A.D.
And you feel the support and you just going now, full throttle. Yeah. Kind of piggybacking off of that. The media isn't always so graceful when it comes to, like young stars and especially black women in this industry. Do you feel that there's pressure to be perfect all the time? And if so, how do you push through that? Or did you ever feel that way?
Trixie Mattel
I did feel there was pressure to be perfect all the time, but I didn't get it from outside influences. I got it from inside influences that were influenced by outside. Because I would put something out there. Oh my God, they're talking about you. You have to stop doing this and this and this and this. And I'm like, but I don't care. Yeah, but you should. I'm like, but I don't really care.
A.D.
Right.
Trixie Mattel
So yes, I did feel that pressure many a times. Look at any outfit when I had on a corset and 70 chills and I was 15, like, right? Yes. Right now.
A.D.
Seven inch heels at 15 is insane.
Trixie Mattel
It's. It's crazy.
A.D.
I have a.
Trixie Mattel
Anyway, I have pictures and so now I do hear about that social in that social influence and social media influencing. And while I can see how that can be that way, I have learned from being in the industry before social media was popping, how to compartmentalize that crazy ass stuff.
A.D.
Yeah.
Trixie Mattel
And I'm not immune to it.
A.D.
Right.
Trixie Mattel
Mine hits more heavy when it's from personal people. I care more about what the people around me say rather than the people that I haven't met before.
A.D.
I wish I could be like that. I feel like at first I didn't really care about what other people said, but then when it comes by the hundreds and the thousands and the comments and you wake up every single day and it's. It's something else. I'm getting way better. Good for you for sure.
Trixie Mattel
But how are you getting better? What are you doing?
A.D.
I don't even read the comments anymore. I don't even look. I don't even look. I can't do it.
Trixie Mattel
Good, bad or ugly, I don't even do it.
Katya Zamolodchikova
You have to give yourself a lot of grace because the thing to remember is that people are not. We're not wired or taught or really, we don't know how to deal with hundreds and thousands of people giving us their. Yeah. It's so far from normal. You're used to having either, like your parents or your friends, you know, maybe three people at most kind of say something to you that doesn't feel good.
A.D.
Yeah.
Katya Zamolodchikova
But when you just are inundated, and I get that.
Trixie Mattel
Starting at an older age.
Katya Zamolodchikova
Yeah.
Trixie Mattel
Raised in it. So.
Katya Zamolodchikova
Yeah. I mean, that's different. Like, for me, being inundated with hate and being inundated with things that are so false from the person that I know that I am, it's very difficult to kind of, I don't know, make sense of it.
A.D.
It.
Katya Zamolodchikova
So you gotta tune it out. I'm glad you're not.
Trixie Mattel
I'm glad you're not reading it. It's unnecessary. What. What purpose does it give? None.
Katya Zamolodchikova
Yeah.
A.D.
Zero.
Katya Zamolodchikova
Yeah.
A.D.
Well, thank you. Do you have a least favorite project that you worked on?
Trixie Mattel
Yes. And I'm not gonna name it.
A.D.
Yeah.
Trixie Mattel
Because I still love the people that I worked with.
Katya Zamolodchikova
Yeah. Do you want me to name it?
Trixie Mattel
No. You don't even know what I'm gonna say. But I will say the reason I didn't enjoy it was because I felt extremely uncomfortable while I was filming it in my body. In the fact of the things that I had to do in that. In that film. It wasn't anything overly, overly sexual. It was just. I wasn't comfortable with myself. And I don't really like being in serious roles to be 100. I really don't. I like acting like a crazy person. And I'm really good at it.
A.D.
I love that for you.
Trixie Mattel
So I'm just gonna stay there.
Katya Zamolodchikova
I love that.
Trixie Mattel
Yeah. I mean, let Zoe Kravitz do the series.
A.D.
What was your experience? Experience like on the View. I loved watching you on the View, by the way.
Trixie Mattel
Thank you. It was interesting. I loved everyone that I worked with there. It's really hard to get your opinion across on live TV within 15 seconds.
A.D.
I noticed that.
Trixie Mattel
And, you know, I. I said some things that I was not able to explain fully because I had a shorter period of time. So it required me to make public apologies, which I do not regret. I understand how it could hurt people. There is conversations that need to be had, though, that I feel if I had more time, I could have gotten my point across to make sense and not hurt as many people's feelings.
A.D.
Do you see yourself doing more daytime?
Trixie Mattel
Hell, no. I'm on a podcast. That's enough. I can edit it. You know what I mean? Like, edit.
A.D.
You don't have to explain a damn thing. It's gone. I know that's right.
Trixie Mattel
I don't have time for that no more.
A.D.
Did you watch the View while she was on it?
Katya Zamolodchikova
She was there, I was there.
A.D.
You were there. How was it watching her knowing that she wasn't able to, like, kind of express or back up, like, knowing her true intentions on what she was saying? That had to be tough to watch.
Katya Zamolodchikova
It was funny because you don't. In the moment that something is said, you don't necessarily know what the response is gonna be. So on a few of the. During a few of the times that Raven got herself in trouble, we were, like, already away. Like, we were like. I remember one time we left the city and we drove up to Saratoga Springs, and then it was like we looked at our phones and it was like, oh, my God. You know? So it's just supporting her and helping navigate those moments. And I think knowing Raven and understanding who she is, it's like, yeah. Sometimes she says things she doesn't mean or she'll mess up her words, but her heart is pure.
Trixie Mattel
Sometimes I'll say things the wrong way.
Katya Zamolodchikova
Yeah.
Trixie Mattel
That I'm not getting across what I mean.
A.D.
And there's no time to clear it up.
Trixie Mattel
No time to clear it up.
Katya Zamolodchikova
And also, Raven is very, very smart. And Raven often sees things or says things that people.
Trixie Mattel
Too far.
Katya Zamolodchikova
Yeah. And so. And then because sometimes she maybe doesn't, like, fully articulate her thoughts, people will then just extrapolate.
Trixie Mattel
I'm sorry, babe. But sometimes even when I do articulate my thought, people extrapolate.
A.D.
There's some people that don't want to like you. It doesn't matter what you period.
Trixie Mattel
And I love those people. Please stop liking me. And please continue to hate on my post in the comments. And like the picture when you post, run it up. Thank you. Please continue.
Katya Zamolodchikova
They hate on me, not you.
Trixie Mattel
And please continue to hate on my wife. Don't send her no death threat. But you know what I mean? Like, the more love, the more hate. The more hate, the more love. That's just the world we live in right now.
A.D.
You came out later in life.
Trixie Mattel
Yeah.
A.D.
What was that moment like for you? Especially being in the public eye for so long.
Trixie Mattel
So I came out in my 20s, and I came out at a time where I was in retirement for myself, and I didn't think I was going to come back to the industry, so I didn't think it would matter.
A.D.
I did read that. Yeah, I did read that.
Trixie Mattel
I'm so glad I did. I'm so glad that I proved My inner circle wrong. That coming out as a lesbian was not going to ruin my career. It actually helped my career in a really cool way because I felt comfortable with myself. Yeah. You know, this is what I've learned. And, and people are like, obviously, but you're born in a particular year. Whatever's going on in that year was influenced by the year or two years beforehand. And as you grow up, the world changes and you have to change with the world. And a lot of the times when you are in the same class which surrounded by your peers, they expect you to act the same way for your entire life and that's never going to happen. You have to change with the times. You have to change with yourself. You have to change during marriage as relationships, relationships grow. And sometimes when you listen to the opinions of older generations that are not from the mindset of. Change is important, but change is difficult. It can keep you stagnant.
A.D.
Yeah. Hinder. It can hinder you. Yeah. Wow.
Trixie Mattel
Did I say that right?
Katya Zamolodchikova
Good job.
Trixie Mattel
Am I gonna get in trouble with that one?
Katya Zamolodchikova
No.
Trixie Mattel
Stop telling me what to do. Old people don't explain it.
A.D.
It's true. Times are different. And there is definitely the generation. AB is very. Not all of them, but can be very anti change very much. This is what I know. This is what got me here. Do it this way or no way. So I could see how coming out in a time where people didn't understand different exactly could be difficult.
Trixie Mattel
It's difficult.
A.D.
If you could sit down with younger Raven today, what advice would you give her about embracing who she is?
Trixie Mattel
I would say to little Raven, parents of tweens, if you're familiar with far off drop offs.
A.D.
Dad, stop.
Katya Zamolodchikova
Stop.
Trixie Mattel
Stop right here or get DMs about what's for dinner.
Katya Zamolodchikova
You may be experiencing tween milestones for.
Trixie Mattel
Your son or daughter.
Katya Zamolodchikova
These can start at age 9. HPV vaccination, a type of cancer prevention.
Trixie Mattel
Against certain HPV related cancers, can start then too. For most, HPV clears on its own. But for those who don't clear the virus, it can cause certain cancers later in life. Embrace this fear phase.

Trixie Mattel
Just stay right there. So let me explain. If you look at my first album, that's what Girls are Made of. I'm literally dressed the same way now. Then there was this period when I turned into like a little vixen. Like this weird trying to be sexy person that just was not me. And I wish that I did. Just. I remember I was dressing how Billie Eilish dresses now, and it was okay. You know what I mean? We came from that generation to where jade baggy clothes keep it hip hop. Yeah, hip hop, you know what I mean? And then it's just like it went away for me. So I would tell little Ray, just stay true. Don't try to be trendy. Don't look at Lindsay Lohan and Paris Hilton and think that you're a part of that crew because you're, you're in this, you're a peer, but you're in a different bracket. You know what I mean? And I probably. I would have kept JNKO alive longer. And I brought it back. JNCO jeans. You remember that? No. For those who remember it, let's comment down below. Whatever. And showing my age. But I would have brought that shit back earlier. But, yeah, I would just tell her, just, just stay, stay consistent. You'll be fine. You'll come back to yourself. I mean, you shouldn't have to come back to yourself.
A.D.
Yeah. Yeah. That's beautiful. How do you both navigate, like, being, like, representing queer love? How do you navigate that?
Trixie Mattel
You don't think about it. You just do.
A.D.
You just love.
Trixie Mattel
You just do it. Yeah, I think. And that's something that. I'm sorry, I should have let you talk first. But, you know, I've had this. You know, you're representing black females, you're representing, you know, lesbian females, you're representing this, you're representing that. When you start adding those bags of sand on your shoulders and that's. Each sand is a person and you're carrying all these people, you get bogged down. My calves aren't that strong. You know what I mean? Like, I can really only carry her, my dog and myself and maybe my mama and maybe your mama. You know what I mean? I love you, sis, but I can't carry all those people. I can only carry myself. And you will seem stronger when you have less Weight on you and more people can follow and learn from. But I can't carry you. But I will do my best to. I love present myself.
A.D.
I love that.
Trixie Mattel
You know what I mean?
A.D.
Yeah, I do love that. What about you?
Katya Zamolodchikova
She said it. Yeah, she said it.
A.D.
Come on, Raven. Taking over the mic.
Trixie Mattel
Listen, you guys, I'm learning words.
A.D.
Dang it.
Trixie Mattel
I'm really trying to articulate what I'm saying. Working.
Katya Zamolodchikova
Love it.
A.D.
So you guys have your own podcast.
Trixie Mattel
Tea time with Raven and Miranda.
A.D.
What's it been like working together?
Trixie Mattel
How is it working with me?
A.D.
How long have the podcast is over?
Trixie Mattel
Dream time.
Katya Zamolodchikova
How old is the podcast? Okay, so the podcast is.
A.D.
I felt that in my soul.
Katya Zamolodchikova
The podcast was like. It's been like four years of me trying to get this thing on goddamn feet.
Trixie Mattel
Yeah.
Katya Zamolodchikova
So I.
Trixie Mattel
The iteration that you've seen has been, like, a year.
Katya Zamolodchikova
So I came to Raven one day, and I was like, babes, let's start a podcast. It's been my dream. I tried to. I started two podcasts on my own, and nothing really happened. And I think you took pity on me. And she was kind of like, okay, I'll help you out. Happy life, Happy wife. Happy wife, happy life. She was like, I'll help you out. We can do this together. And I was like, also, just, if you look at the world, there are not in our age range, very many married lesbians interracial. And we're interracial. So I was like, okay, this is interesting. Like, we might fill a space that hasn't been filled, you know, and we're goofy and funny and married and, like, navigating life. Let's try it out.
Trixie Mattel
So working together with me.
Katya Zamolodchikova
Husband, continue the sentence.
A.D.
Great. Okay.
Trixie Mattel
Thank you.
A.D.
You.
Katya Zamolodchikova
Working together with me has been enlightening.
Trixie Mattel
I've worked with my family since I was 16 months old. That's all I've known. So getting into a marriage and working with my wife I thought was going to be complicated and kind of triggering.
Katya Zamolodchikova
And it has been a little bit. You're right, to be honest, period. But I had to learn that, too. I didn't. I didn't really. Sorry to interrupt you, but I don't.
Trixie Mattel
I don't care.
Katya Zamolodchikova
I. Well, the world does.
Trixie Mattel
I. I don't care.
Katya Zamolodchikova
I. I didn't fully understand her, and how could I, Right? Like, it was. I. I was empathetic towards the stories I heard, and. But I was like, we're different. Like, we're gonna take this on. And I had a background in the industry and entertainment and I was like, we can do this and we're gonna tackle it and, you know, produce and make and da da, da. But I didn't really understand the emotional element until later.
Trixie Mattel
So I bring that up to say working with her is enlighten because I was able to shift my brain space to allow for that space to happen for her success and my success and together success. I think there's three different scales there, you know, and with that, me learning how to say, okay, my wife is also my business partner and that's okay. I think that I've shifted as a human too. So it's enlightening for me and how I proceed in the world. And then it's also enlightening for me to see her grow into who she's become as a businesswoman and a producer. And working with her, we've definitely helped each other grow.
Katya Zamolodchikova
And I think I haven't really ever said this before or shared this in this way, but I believe that when you meet the right person, you can fulfill elements in each other's lives that you lack individually.
A.D.
Right.
Katya Zamolodchikova
Like, like some people say you have to be this whole complete person before you find your person. And I don't think that's necessarily true. And something for both Raven and I. When Raven and I met in 2015, I was working as a personal assistant for high profile actors. And I had a goal and my goal was always to write for tv. And my dad grew up working in the industry. I was like, this is going to be my thing. I'd studied it, I was going to do it. And. And then life happened like shit got in the way for me and I had to take leave of absence. I had to deal with some mental health issues. And then I came back to work and I was like, okay, I'm gonna just focus on writing. I was scattered career wise. And it was frustrating because I always knew I had potential and I was smart and I was intelligent and I went to work. I was the executive assistant to the president of Universal Studios. Like I was doing things. And when Raven and I then got married and decided to really start working together, I was like, okay, I have the security now, and not financially, but the emotional security. The person backing me and saying, you can do this to say, I'm gonna become the producer I always have known I wanted to be. I'm gonna start the YouTube channel I've always wanted. And I for her was able to give her foundation and security in saying, if you don't want to be the actress that you were always Told you had to be anymore. Don't be the director you know you want to be. So we. We fed each other in ways that were really necessary to our personal growth, and that's where I am today. And people. So people look at me and they're like, why is Miranda there? Why is Miranda talking? Why is Miranda, like, on her own podcast? And it's like, yeah, you don't know my history, but I've worked really hard to get here, and Raven has helped me, but I've also, like, always been trying to get here. I've just had blocks.
A.D.
Do you think working together has strengthened your personal, like, marriage and relationship, or do you kind of leave work at work and home at home?
Trixie Mattel
No, we don't have a separation yet. We still talk about work, but I think we do it in a way where it's not triggering for me. Like, when we'll watch a show, we dissect it together, and it's more like an exercise than anything. I think it shifted our relationship from, you know, just lovers and friends to lovers and respecting co workers and understanding our position. When we get into certain things, like if I'm directing and she's acting, then that's a different dynamic. Dynamic that we both have to kind of swallow our tongue with and then go home safe.
Katya Zamolodchikova
I love it.
A.D.
I love it, though.
Trixie Mattel
I love different day.
Katya Zamolodchikova
I love, love seeing her in her element.
A.D.
Yeah.
Katya Zamolodchikova
What are you talking about?
Trixie Mattel
That was hard.
Katya Zamolodchikova
What was hard? You've directed me once. Fresh paint.
A.D.
That was hard.
Katya Zamolodchikova
That was hard because I didn't know what I was doing. You were treating me like an actor, period. That would have been hard with anyone, though.
Trixie Mattel
No, no, no, no. It was hard because I wasn't treating you like the actors I'd normally work with. I was treating you like my wife who's an actor that I have to go home to. So that was me having to go through, like, 17 different filters and really real time and then also not tell her because I didn't want her to be in her head.
A.D.
Right, right.
Trixie Mattel
So that was hard. And it was, like, so sweet.
Katya Zamolodchikova
I don't do that. I just, like, am. No, seriously, I'm just am. I'm like, oh, she's directing. She's telling me what to do. But I didn't. Just didn't know how to do what you were asking.
Trixie Mattel
You did a very good job, babes.
A.D.
Is this fresh paint? Is this something out?
Trixie Mattel
No, it's not out. I did a short that I'm still editing. It's taking me two years to edit because it's my first single camera thing. But. But, yeah, she did a great job. It was very artistic. It's about a. A girl going through grief, losing one of her partners. I play the partner. She plays the main girl going through it. And it was an exercise in how to do single camera for myself. And we're tackling on other projects where I'll direct and she'll be in here and there acting just a little bit and just a little bit. And. But mostly we're producing partners, and I think that's where we really thrived. The way she breaks down a character, the way that I see it visually and coming together, that's what we practice on an everyday basis. And kind of for fun, you know, we have a very thick Rolodex of visual movies and television shows that we are constantly sucking into our consciousness. So as we move forward in our production company, I see pictures working with companies like the Disney. Walt Disney Co. And Hulu and all these. We are. We know how to communicate with each other in a different way. And also not afraid to show that we disagree in front of people because we don't always agree. And I think it's also important as. As a married couple that's in business together, to know that we will pick the best option no matter who gives it.
A.D.
Okay.
Trixie Mattel
You know?
Katya Zamolodchikova
Yeah. And I have to be honest that one of the things that I loved most about Raven was that we.
Trixie Mattel
I was an ed on the end of that. So what. What did I lose? You loved about me? What happened?
Katya Zamolodchikova
Oh, I was really confused about that.
A.D.
I was like.
Katya Zamolodchikova
I literally was like, she's talking about some kind of assistant director. I was like, wait, what? No, no. I just. One of the things that I really appreciated when we first met was that we both are children of the industry, and there's a different conversation that we could have that. Honestly, sometimes I missed with other people because, like, although she was in front of the camera on set, we both grew up on sets. I was just behind a camera. So it's like we just knew the world, and therefore, we could bond and talk over that or just understand it. And that was something that I also really liked because it was.
A.D.
It's formative, and it's a different perspective now. You're adults, and you have the control. You're not being shuffled around like children. You have the control. So I think that's also a very powerful thing as well. Okay, walk me through a typical date night. What does date night look like? Do we do date nights? Are we watching reality tv? I know we're watching Love is Blind Love. On the spectrum. What does it look like?
Trixie Mattel
Date nights? I think that I'm gonna be honest. And we were very solitary for a really long time, just the two of us. So date nights kind of went out the window because it was just like the same. Now we've integrated going out into the world and having times with our friends. So I think that there's two types of date night. There's just us. And that would be red light therapy on my wife from top to bottom. I'm in sweats and a hoodie. And like, that is not.
Katya Zamolodchikova
This is not a date night.
Trixie Mattel
This is just our life.
A.D.
This is Wednesday.
Katya Zamolodchikova
This is like, yeah, this was last night. What are you talking about?
Trixie Mattel
That's a date night. But a real date night would probably be getting dressed and going out with friends or doing something a little bit more communal in that way. Or we try to say that red carpets are date night because it's just us going out, looking good and getting dressed. But I will. I will put on the nights that we spend together in the same area and being cozy. We will put on, like, a television. She'll have all of her masks on her face, and I have my slippy slips on. And the dog is being thrown around the room because he's always here. And then she always wants to be here.
Katya Zamolodchikova
So it's like the fight came first.
Trixie Mattel
Yeah, it's like the fight.
A.D.
Exactly.
Trixie Mattel
Yeah.
Katya Zamolodchikova
Back up.
Trixie Mattel
Oh, Quint.
Katya Zamolodchikova
Yeah. Date nights, we were really good in the beginning. We would do them consistently and all, like, activity.
Trixie Mattel
We did tie dye.
Katya Zamolodchikova
Yeah. We would do, like, activity based date nights. But yeah.
A.D.
Do you have a favorite date night? A favorite date.
Katya Zamolodchikova
In our history of dates?
Trixie Mattel
We. I would say I do. Go ahead, Go ahead.
Katya Zamolodchikova
Okay. This was really good. This was our early, early dates.
Trixie Mattel
Like, first.
Katya Zamolodchikova
Yeah. In New York City. So Raven said, like, be ready at this time. We're doing something special tonight. She won't even remember. And I said, okay. And a car picked us up and we are going somewhere. I don't know where we go. And we get to Radio City. And it was to see Adele's concert, but it was a private. Not like a private. But it was an invitation only concert because it was her first again. This is like 20, 15, 16. It was one of her first times performing live again, getting herself geared up to, like, then go on tour.
Trixie Mattel
I think she had, like, surgery.
Katya Zamolodchikova
Yeah. Yeah. And she was really anxious and she expressed that, but, oh, my gosh, it Was phenomenal. It was amazing to see Adele, but then also in kind of the. This more intimate space. And it was just the best. And it was a total surprise. And we were totally like, quiet at that time. No, because I remember this. And we. We. So people didn't know we were together. And we were walking down the street and you kissed me at the crosswalk.
Trixie Mattel
Really?
Katya Zamolodchikova
Yes. And I was like, what was I drinking? Nothing.
A.D.
Why are we both hearing this story for the first time? Were you there or not?
Trixie Mattel
Who knows? I might have run across she liter.
Katya Zamolodchikova
It was the high from Adele and I was like, oh, wow. It was like the best night ever.
Trixie Mattel
You know what date night I really enjoyed? I love the times when like an activity. We went to go do pottery together and I was able to see her be crafty and in her element and get a little dirty. And she made the most in my element.
Katya Zamolodchikova
I struggled the whole fucking time. I was like this. My forearms are so.
A.D.
What?
Trixie Mattel
Not the forearms.
A.D.
It's so random.
Katya Zamolodchikova
Cuz the wheel, it was so.
A.D.
I have done it. But it does look like a hot mess. It does look like a mess.
Trixie Mattel
I love moments like that when you get to see your partner. I know the struggle kind of struggle to see how they deal with situations and to see if I can help them calm down during it. To see if we can actually work together. And I enjoyed it because she's like, I don't like it. I don't like it. I'm like, babes, you're fine. It makes me feel like I'm catering to her when she is. Is extremely independent and does everything herself. I like doing that. So whatever.
Katya Zamolodchikova
I was like, just fix it, babe.
Trixie Mattel
I suck.
Katya Zamolodchikova
You just like being in art mode because she's a really good artist. I'm not.
Trixie Mattel
You are a good artist, baby.
Katya Zamolodchikova
Y'all are so cute. Not like that, you know, not like me.
Trixie Mattel
But you're good. It's like, it would be like neat.
A.D.
You have your own kind of good art, whatever, something.
Trixie Mattel
It's just.
Katya Zamolodchikova
You just like date nights that like. Like stroke your ego in art world to show you that you're good at it.
Trixie Mattel
This is not true.
Katya Zamolodchikova
I'm like, I suck at stick figure drawing and you're.
Trixie Mattel
I like when you cook for me.
Katya Zamolodchikova
Well, yeah, I'm a great cook. Period. Yeah, period.
A.D.
What's your favorite thing to cook?
Trixie Mattel
O wait, what's her favorite thing? Or what's my favorite thing?
A.D.
What's your favorite thing for her to cook? And what is your favorite thing to cook?
Katya Zamolodchikova
Okay, what's your favorite thing?
Trixie Mattel
My favorite thing for her to cook.
A.D.
Is her tomato sauce.
Trixie Mattel
She loves it on it. I'll eat that on everything.
Katya Zamolodchikova
Yeah.
A.D.
From scratch.
Katya Zamolodchikova
Yes. And one of my favorite things, I really like making everything. It's really fun. Like, yesterday, I just made some shishito peppers for her, and I was playing around, but Raven is so much fun to cook for or bake for because she loves food so much and she gets so excited. I love it, and it was really sweet. I felt very wifey yesterday because I made her.
Trixie Mattel
You were wifey yesterday.
Katya Zamolodchikova
I made her a plate of shishito peppers, and I brought them into her. Her back house, like her art studio.
Trixie Mattel
And she sat down and ate them with me. But she's a really good baker. I would actually answer her questions, say one of her favorite things to make is anything that people like. If she gets good feedback for it, she'll make it over and over.
Katya Zamolodchikova
If y'all like validation, why not? Come on, now.
Trixie Mattel
I'm kind of like, what you make, girl?
A.D.
Ever since I got this ring, I've been in the kitchen.
Trixie Mattel
Yes, in the kitchen.
A.D.
No, because I didn't cook prior to being engaged, like, at all for him. Like, I didn't. I can cook. I'm really good at it. But we spent a lot of time in London and, like, kind of in his space and, like, so I wasn't really gonna, you know, run the kitchen and do the whole thing. Now we're here in my zone, in my kitchen, so whatever he wants, pretty much. What are you loving right now? He's loving a meatball sub. He's vegan, so everything I Cook is 100% vegan.
Trixie Mattel
She has to share a recipe with you.
Katya Zamolodchikova
Oh, yes, but it has cheese.
Trixie Mattel
You take it out. It's really good.
A.D.
Cheese alternatives. Yeah.
Katya Zamolodchikova
Do you know we went to London for a bit? And, Ollie, this is for you to hear as well. We were in London, and Raven was working, and she comes home one day, and she was like, oh, my God, I had the most amazing thing in my entire life. It was so delicious. I need to get more immediately. I was like, what did you have? She goes, a sausage roll. And I was like, oh, he loves.
Trixie Mattel
A sausage roll, yo.
A.D.
He found the vegan one somewhere. He loves the sausage. You guys got to come to the house.
Trixie Mattel
I found a place to sell sausage roll by the house.
Katya Zamolodchikova
She was obsessed. And literally on our way to the airport, she had this man trying to stop at places. It was too early.
Trixie Mattel
Everything was closed.
Katya Zamolodchikova
She was like, I need another sausage roll.
A.D.
Please.
Trixie Mattel
Let me tell you something about a sausage roll. It's like the better hot pocket. It's like a better hot dog in a bunch.
Katya Zamolodchikova
It's just like hot dog on a stick. No, no, no.
A.D.
It's just pastry.
Katya Zamolodchikova
No, I know.
A.D.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Trixie Mattel
But it's delicious.
A.D.
He loves the sausage roll.
Katya Zamolodchikova
Yeah.
Trixie Mattel
Switchy Wally.
A.D.
I love it. I'm crying. Okay.
Katya Zamolodchikova
He's like not vegan for the sausage roll.
Trixie Mattel
Exactly.
A.D.
Yeah, we gotta go vegan.
Trixie Mattel
Yeah, for sure.
Katya Zamolodchikova
We can definitely go to London together though, because I have family there and he's. Let's go. We're trying to get back.
A.D.
Yeah, yeah.
Trixie Mattel
What you cooking for us when you come over? What's the meal gonna be?
Katya Zamolodchikova
Why is she coming to us and then making her cook?
Trixie Mattel
Because I gotta get a massage roll from up the street.
Katya Zamolodchikova
Yeah, got it.
A.D.
That's all happening that period. Well, we could just get all the recipe and make it all together.
Trixie Mattel
I love this idea.
A.D.
That'll be so lit.
Trixie Mattel
I love this idea.
A.D.
Okay, let's switch gears a bit. Okay, let's have a little game time. Game time. So I'm gonna read a sentence and you have to finish it with the first thing that comes to your mind.
Trixie Mattel
Okay.
A.D.
The first thing that made me fall in love with you was your swag.
Katya Zamolodchikova
And the first thing that made me fall in love with you.
Trixie Mattel
Yeah.
Katya Zamolodchikova
My God.
Trixie Mattel
This is the one, two, three, game, baby.
Katya Zamolodchikova
I know.
Trixie Mattel
One, two, three.
Katya Zamolodchikova
I was like, you're freckle.
Trixie Mattel
There you go. One, two, three. Freckle. Cute.
A.D.
Okay, answer this as you're talking to each other.
Trixie Mattel
Okay.
A.D.
If we were stuck on an island together, what would I bring?
Katya Zamolodchikova
Sunscreen.
Trixie Mattel
Peanut butter. I'd bring peanut butter for her. And I'm not bringing sunscreen.
Katya Zamolodchikova
Oh, I'm so confused by how this game works.
A.D.
So I'm asking. Pretend that we're asking ourselves. You're asking each other this question.
Trixie Mattel
Yes.
A.D.
What would you bring? And she's answering for you.
Trixie Mattel
I bring peanut butter. Very good job, babes. Not on camera. Say something else.
A.D.
No, say. Say the real. What's the reality?
Trixie Mattel
Shrooms.
Katya Zamolodchikova
Yeah, shrooms, shrooms.
Trixie Mattel
And I bring peanut butter.
A.D.
Peanut butter. What a combo. Yeah, it's a dry ass island.
Katya Zamolodchikova
No joke. No joke.
Trixie Mattel
I want my son sunspring somewhere.
Katya Zamolodchikova
I want my sunscreen.
Trixie Mattel
You can sit underneath a leaf.
Katya Zamolodchikova
Oh, my God. You wouldn't die if you didn't have.
Trixie Mattel
Your peanut butter powder.
A.D.
The best thing about being in a relationship is.
Trixie Mattel
Confidence.
Katya Zamolodchikova
Friendship.
A.D.
Oh, that's cute. I like that. Okay, craziest thing we've ever done on.
Trixie Mattel
A date is driving the snow.
Katya Zamolodchikova
Yeah.
Trixie Mattel
Driving the snow in a smart car.
Katya Zamolodchikova
Yeah.
Trixie Mattel
Yeah, exactly.
A.D.
Yeah.
Trixie Mattel

Trixie Mattel
You see how short that was? But that's not the full story. That's not like I didn't almost kill you. Almost killed us.
Katya Zamolodchikova
Yeah, she always. Well, you were warmer than me. I was freezing and we were literally like negative 27 degrees.

Podcast Summary: "What's the Reality?" Episode: Raven-Symoné & Miranda Maday: That's SO Us Release Date: May 7, 2025 Host: A.D. (And Love Media)
The episode opens with a vibrant introduction featuring Trixie Mattel and Katya Zamolodchikova promoting their own podcast, "The Bald and the Beautiful." However, the main content begins when A.D., the host of "What's the Reality?," welcomes Raven-Symoné and Miranda Maday to discuss their love story, experiences in the public eye, and navigating their relationship both personally and professionally.
Raven-Symoné and Miranda Maday recount their serendipitous meeting in 2015 at a karaoke night hosted by Raven in "Gayland." Miranda describes an immediate, profound connection upon meeting Raven, saying, "I had this overwhelming feeling in that moment, before we had even spoken, I was like, I'm going to know her" ([04:18]). They quickly became friends, leading to Miranda's invitation to Raven's infamous house party, which was memorable for its wild atmosphere and the resulting chaos, such as “the toilets had to be replaced” ([05:38]).
Miranda shares a heartfelt and somewhat chaotic proposal story. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Raven decided to propose to Miranda at a scenic, albeit foggy, spot off Poa Road by Los Angeles. Despite the overcast weather limiting the view, Raven persisted with the proposal. Miranda recounts the intense moment: "Raven said, 'But will you marry me?'" ([13:24]). Overwhelmed by her mental state at the time, Miranda impulsively ran across two lanes of traffic in a panic, demonstrating the deep emotional and psychological impact of the proposal ([14:19]).
The couple delves into the dynamics of their marriage, emphasizing the importance of companionship and understanding how love evolves over time. Miranda highlights the transition from passionate to companionate love, stating, “companionate love is what you enter in when you're in that longest term. Around five years, you actually truly are in a space where you develop that best friendshipness” ([22:05]). They discuss maintaining a 50/50 partnership, sharing responsibilities, and avoiding traditional gender roles to prevent resentment ([24:05]).
Raven and Miranda offer insightful advice for sustaining a long-term relationship. They stress the significance of:
Miranda adds, “don’t let outside influence impact you or dictate how you feel a relationship should be” ([26:37]).
The couple discusses the importance of representing queer love authentically without feeling the need to carry the weight of societal expectations. Miranda emphasizes, “You just do it” ([48:40]), advocating for genuine expressions of love over performing for an audience. They acknowledge the challenges of being public figures but assert the importance of presenting their relationship as it is, rather than adhering to external pressures.
Raven and Miranda talk about their collaborative efforts in the entertainment industry, particularly their joint ventures into podcasting. They launched “Tea Time with Raven and Miranda,” aiming to fill a unique space by representing an interracial, married lesbian couple. Miranda shares the journey of starting the podcast, highlighting the support Raven provided and how their partnership has fostered both personal and professional growth ([50:15]).
The couple reminisces about their early dates and the evolution of their date nights. Initially, they engaged in planned activities like pottery classes and attending Adele's exclusive concert, which Miranda describes as "phenomenal" and "the best night ever" ([60:45]). As their relationship matured, date nights became more spontaneous and relaxed, often involving cozy nights in or shared hobbies. They also share humorous anecdotes about cooking together and their mutual love for vegan sausage rolls ([63:20]).
Raven and Miranda provide heartfelt advice for listeners aiming to build lasting relationships:
Miranda adds, “When you meet the right person, you can fulfill elements in each other's lives that you lack individually” ([52:58]).
In the final segment, the hosts wrap up the episode with a fun game segment, allowing Raven and Miranda to share more personal stories and anecdotes, highlighting the depth and authenticity of their relationship. A.D. thanks Raven and Miranda for their openness and insightful discussion, emphasizing the episode's theme of authentic love intersecting with reality TV culture.
