Welcome to Woo Woo with Rachel Dratch, the podcast that explores the unexplained with humor and curiosity.
Hello and welcome to Woo Woo with Rachel Dratch, here with my pal, Irene Bremis. Hi, Irene.
Irene Bremis
Hello there, sweetie.
Rachel Dratch
Hello there, sweetie. Well, Irene, today we have a pal of mine who I've been traipsing around Maine with lately, improvising in the woods. And you might know him from Second City in Chicago where we both started out. He was a little behind me since I'm older than he is, but he's also a Second City dude and he's been in sitcoms such as Cougar Town, Good Place, and Beyond. Please welcome Brad Morris. Hi, Brad.
Irene Bremis
Hi, Brad.
Brad Morris
Rachel. Irene. I'm so happy to be here. I almost called you Rachie. Cause on the episode I listened to recently, Irene called you Rachie. And it made me happy.
Rachel Dratch
You can call me Rachie.
Brad Morris
We'll see how it goes. Yeah, I just like the. I like the idea of the familiarity just like, right at the top like that. Yeah.
Rachel Dratch
I mean, we've. We've traveled Maine together, so we have. We're like this.
Brad Morris
I like. I like the idea of improvising in the woods. It makes it sound like very summer camp, you know, like an arts camp. Like a theater camp.
Rachel Dratch
Yeah.
Brad Morris
And in a way, it is our version of that because we're sort of all just together out there and doing our thing. Yeah.
Rachel Dratch
So.
Brad Morris
Yeah.
Rachel Dratch
So, I mean, I knew Brad anyway because we did a pilot together way back when with less than 1.
Brad Morris
See, that would have been the one I would have been the most excited to talk about, had not turned into a series, and instead it just turns into another fun, fun thing I got to do. But we did meet on Salem Rogers. It was an Amazon pilot back when Amazon was just starting to make shows and they had this thing where you, like, voted. People could vote on their two favorite pilots, and somehow those were the shows that would get picked up, which felt so democratic and egalitarian and beautiful and, like, the weird showbiz world. And then the more I think about it, I'm like, it hurts even more. It's not like the execs just said no. People actually watched it and were like.
Rachel Dratch
We choose that one instead. No, it was us and Leslie Bib.
Brad Morris
Leslie Bibb.
Rachel Dratch
And.
Brad Morris
And Harry Hamlin.
Rachel Dratch
Harry Hamlin.
Irene Bremis
Harry Hamlin.
Rachel Dratch
Jane Kacmark. Jane Kazmark.
Brad Morris
Yeah, Kazmark. Sorry. Yes.
Rachel Dratch
However you say.
Brad Morris
Okay, I added more syllables.
Rachel Dratch
No one's ever gonna see it, so I guess it doesn't matter. But that's how I really met you.
Brad Morris
And it is how we met. Yep.
Rachel Dratch
And now I occasionally sit in on this little improv group of Chicago dudes. And I did last year. I've done a few dates now. First it was called Chicago Legendary Improv. First it was called Meadows and Friends because it was Tim Meadows. Now I feel in When Tim Meadows Can't Be There. Then once it was like, Dratch and Friends. Then it was Dratch Walsh and Friends because Matt Walsh was. And then it turned into Chicago Legendary Improv. And then it became Bluebird.
Brad Morris
Bluebird.
Rachel Dratch
Bluebird Improv, which is a name.
Brad Morris
Rachel. Rachel getting annoyed about the name of it. She and Mark Evan Jackson, who also is part of this group. And by the way, Rachel downplays it. Like, this is how it really works. At some point we realize, like, there's times when Tim or Rachel or Matt might be filming. And if there's already a date scheduled, it's hard to say it's Rachel Dratch and Friends if Rachel suddenly has to go shoot a show or something. So we. We had to come up with a placeholder name, like, quickly for a show that was coming up. And I take full blame for it. I'm sorry. I don't know. I know. I'm sorry. No, no, it wasn't a vote. It was literally like, oh, no. I threw it out to Tim and Matt, and they were like, yeah, I.
Rachel Dratch
Feel like an ass now.
Brad Morris
Oh, it's really okay. So it's sort of like how you give a new pet, like, a name. You're like, this isn't the actual name. And sometimes you're like, I guess our dog's name is Doug. Cause I just called it Doug for the first four months. I think the name will change again. But it's funny because Rachel Irene is Very. She and Mark are both, like, on the road. We'll be like, having ice cream or dinner or something after a fun show. And then she'll just go like, so what's going on with this name? I mean, Bluebird. And then Mark will feel like, okay, it's safe for me to faces.
Rachel Dratch
No, I saw the other way. Cause I didn't dare say anything. But then I heard Mark saying, this doesn't.
Brad Morris
Oh, my God.
Rachel Dratch
And then I dared to jump in. Cause I was like, bluebird doesn't really tell us anything. And then I was joking around that we need a name that says, like, we're a goofy improv tube. So I was joking, like, the most cliche name. And I was like, you know, like mixed nuts. So then. Which I was totally joking, but now I'm only referring to this tube as mixed Nuts.
Brad Morris
In my mind. It is. It's permanently now mixed nuts. And I can only envision, like, marketing materials that. Where it's like mixed nuts. And it's almost like. It's like the joke peanut can where the snake comes out and our heads are.
Rachel Dratch
But it's our heads.
Brad Morris
That's what it is.
Rachel Dratch
Now this says to me, comedy. And now I need this to happen.
Brad Morris
It's just. It's great. I'm going to get that made no matter what happens from here. And I saw Mark. I saw Mark yesterday. And Mark. I don't know. Irene, if you know Mark, you should have Mark on. I'm sure he's got some stories. He'd be amazing. But Mark is one of these guys who is, like, so put together. I literally, when we were in Cape Cod at the end of the tour, Rachel wasn't at that show. Like, I have pictures of Mark down at the beach at my friend. At my friend's place. My friend has got, you know, a bathing, like, surfboard shorts on, tattoos everywhere, all over his arms and clay that he grabs from the cliff and rubs all over his whole body. And then Mark is next to him wearing a tennis. A white tennis sweater, like, ties, collared shirt, perfectly pressed khaki shorts. He is, as Mark. Oh, Mark. Self described verbose dandy. Which is a great name for a book or a. He needs. That needs to be the name of his book. He's amazing. I think he used to do a show with maybe Paul F. Tompkins. And it was like they had a name. It was like excellently dressed gentleman or something like that. But it's like. So the idea of like Rachel thinking mixed nuts is great. Kind of as A half bit, but also a little bit serious. And then Mark is like, that's actually not a terrible idea for a man. I'm like, come on, man, you don't really. Yeah. So anyway. Okay.
Rachel Dratch
Now we have to be Mixed Nuts next year anyway. I don't know. You guys have a show coming up, by the way, that I'm not gonna be at in October somewhere like in the Midwest, right?
Brad Morris
There's some shows in October, there's some shows in November. There'll be some shows.
Rachel Dratch
What is now called Bluebird Improv.
Brad Morris
Let's call it temporarily known as tka.
Rachel Dratch
Bluebird Improv.
Brad Morris
Improv.
Rachel Dratch
Coming to what town in October? I'll do the plug at the beginning.
Brad Morris
Omaha, October 19th. If this comes out before that, probably it will, because you guys are a well oil machine. Red wing. Minnesota, I think.
Rachel Dratch
Minnesota.
Brad Morris
Omaha, Minnesota.
Rachel Dratch
Keep your eyes peeled. Check out Brad's Instagram.
Brad Morris
Keep your eyes peeled for mixed nuts on the road.
Rachel Dratch
Okay.
Irene Bremis
Awesome.
Rachel Dratch
Okay, now that that's out of the way, Brad, I don't. I don't remember if I even asked you how woo woo you are, but when I texted you. Cause I was in a pinch. I've gone through my Rolodex, Brad, of like, people I see a lot. I don't mean to mean that, like, you're not on my A list.
Progressive Insurance Announcer
No, no, no.
Brad Morris
You guys are now.
Rachel Dratch
You are. Now that we've been in the weeds together.
Brad Morris
We've been in the weeds. We've been in the woods. Turnabout's fair play, though. Just so you know that I do a podcast with my buddy Mike o', Brien, who I think you maybe crossed over with for a little at SNL maybe or whatever. I definitely know another city buddy from my era and we do a really dumb podcast called Business Trips. And now you guys will have to make yourself available when it's. It's really Stupid. It's an improvised thing where we play these two guys that are a lot like ourselves who met in college and thought everyone's got a podcast and we should do ours about how to, like, do business trips in the most fun, like, hacks, but it's people coming on and being characters. So, like, it's really dumb and weird and doesn't make any sense. And it's a half hour and I think you can find it where you find your podcast.
Rachel Dratch
And it's called Business Trips.
Brad Morris
It's fun and it's really dumb. It's called Business Trips and it's very stupid. Here's how. Woo woo.
Rachel Dratch
I am oh yeah, okay, let me just say something funny. So I texted you and I said, hey, is there any chance you could do this? I don't even know if you have any stories, but let me know. And then you wrote back to say, well, I do have a ghost named Brenda. And I thought that was a joke. And then at the end you were like, I can think of some other.
Stories, but I thought, I didn't even.
Know there really is a ghost named Brenda, which I'm very excited about.

I'm excited to tell you guys about it and I will tell you that my woo woo context is that you know I grew up in Chicago in an old house. It was a really old house. It was like maybe a hundred year old house.
Rachel Dratch
Perfect.
Brad Morris
And that was like the main house I grew up in. And you know, like my room faced out down towards the street and DePaul is this college that's in the neighborhood. And my house is between Clark street and Lincoln Avenue where people would finish drinking like college kids would finish drinking on Lincoln when the bars would close at 1. And there was a bar called Ravens which maybe Rachel, you might even know this. There was like a four o' clock bar. And I as a little kid would hear in. I thought it was dreams until I was old enough to understand what it was like voices and things and. And it was really just drunk college kids that were starting very far away and then getting closer and sometimes they would like stop and pee in front of that. I didn't know what was happening until I was old enough to understand. But in my mind I was like, these are ghosts. I'm constantly, every night, like Thursday through Thursday through Sunday ghosts arrive. You know, in my mind that's not what it was then I moved into this place a couple years ago and it's old. I don't know if it's that old, but I started.
Rachel Dratch
This is in LA.
Brad Morris
I'm in LA now. Yeah, I've been here for 15 years. And so I, I wouldn't say I was like a. A woo woo naysayer or skeptic per se, but I was like, I don't know that I'm always in tune with that stuff. And then I was in this house and I think at some point my girlfriend was over and she said I get it. And she's very in tune with all this stuff. And she's like this is a really old house. And I said yeah, it's pretty old. And she said I feel like I need to come and burn some sage. And I was kind of like, hey, like great. It was early days. I was like, I don't really know her that well. This may be a fun activity. Crazy. This could be a lot of fun. And, and so she's like saged the place or whatever. And I was asking her like, tell me about burning sage. In my mind it's just this kind of cleansing ritual that's meant to sort of. And she's like, yeah, but also like you might find that you're going to be coexisting with spirits that are in this house and this is a way to like sort of let them know. And I'm now I'm leaning in and really Curious about all of it. And a little while later, home alone, weeks later, maybe I started noticing she had said, like, I feel something in this. Like, there, there, there are. And I would say, well, yeah, like the door will close or something, you know, once in a while. But I think it's also just like wind and you know, not that I'm a great scientist either, but I was a little skeptical.
Rachel Dratch
Yeah.
Brad Morris
And so anyway, at some point we were. One night she came over and we like ordered pizza and she, we were. She was saying, like, are you, are you. So have you started to like, feel any of the things that I have felt when I've been at the house? And I said, I don't know. I don't really know. Like, maybe. I don't really know. And she was making a. This is the first thing that happened. The first thing that happened was. Oh. I said, I called one day and said, you know, my lights are flickering in my house in one room. And she said, well, that's, that's, that's probably someone like a ghost. And I said, okay, I'll keep an eye on it. And then a few days later, it happened again. Same lights. Then like a week after that, my tv, like, did a weird, like, not a full on poltergeisty thing, but it like just kind of like did a weird flicking. And then like, the image was nothing more than like a floating, like, like a, like a line, like a ribbon that would just move across. So I called her again and I said, like, all right, there's weird stuff happening and I don't really know what it is. And she said, you need to let the ghost know that you're okay living with the ghost. It's. The ghost is trying to like, check in and see how you feel about cohabitating with like a spirit. I mean, honestly, at that point I was kind of like, I'm done with it. Well, this relationship is gonna work. This is really. This is a bridge too far.
Rachel Dratch
Like, weren't you like, can't this just be bad wiring? Like, that's what I would think.
Brad Morris
Yes, that's what it was. I was like, no, this is an old house and the wires are old and there's rats probably chewing on it.
Rachel Dratch
This is over.
Brad Morris
I was like, ah, this can't, this can't be. And so she's like, you should do that. And here's the really crazy thing. And then there's another part to it. After I, like, I had to really check in with myself and go like, are you really, like, can you do this? Like, can you do this? And I'll tell you later about another woo woo thing that I did that was a big leap for me before that. But, like, I was like, I guess I should just. Why not? I was alone. I don't think I could have done it with her around. And I waited, and I just. At some point, I just said, oh. I called the cable company because I was like, this is crazy. This has happened now a couple times. And while it was on the line and your wait time is 48 minutes, and I thought like, oh, this is terrible. I'm like, all right. Hey, ghost. You know, whatever. And, you know, like, can you, like, let's talk. Like, I want to just introduce myself. And nothing happened. And I texted Annie and I said, hey, like, no dice. I tried, you know, and she goes, well, what. What did you name the ghost? Now, Rachel, you know that I am not great at naming things. First of all, I let my. I let my daughters name the dog that we adopted, and they named the dog Jordan Irene. Not a cool name. And I said, like, you girls, you're 10 years old. I'm giving you the coolest kid gift of all time, which is you get to name a dog forever. How did you arrive at Jordan? This is, like, not a cool name. And they were like, it's just a cool girl's name. And I'm like, it's a unisex name. It's fine. I feel like we might have cousin's name Jordan or something. Feels like a Jewish person's name. I don't really know. So I'm like, oh, name the ghost. All right. Hang up. And then I don't know why, I was like, it's a female ghost. And I just was like, listen, Brenda, I want to introduce myself. I moved in here a couple years ago. I want to welcome you to sharing this space with me or thank you for allowing me to be in this space. And I don't want to get rid of you, but I want you to, like, help me out when stuff like this is happening. I want you to help me out with it. I am not kidding you. Within 30 seconds, the TV fixed itself. I hung up the phone. The lights have flickered a bit after that. Not as much when they have. I once had a. A camp friend over, and, like, he was a counselor of mine when I was a kid. He came over. My daughters were there, and the lights were flickering, and I was like, Brenda, like, got company over. Like, that. He did not think it was cool. And by the way the light stopped flickering. But the very best of all is that she, Annie, was over and was making. Shaking like a martini or something, like making a martini in a shaker. And I watched it happen, and she watched it happen. We were not talking about ghosts or Brenda or anything else. I'm so embarrassed that I'm sharing this.
Rachel Dratch
I'm really enjoying this story.
Brad Morris
The top, the top little thingy on the. Of the shaker that you take off and it's like an antiquey shaker and you take the top off. Whatever. Maybe she had made the drink and it was just sitting there and we were talking, and the little top popped up, did one rotation of a flip, and went back onto the top of the thing. We hadn't been drinking yet. I was totally sober. And I said, did you just see that happen? And she said, I did. And I said, that's really weird. And she's like. She didn't say that's Brenda or this or whatever, but she kind of looked at me like, this is. You can't explain that in any other way. And in my mind, I'm thinking like, well, yeah, like, there's pressure. The temperature was changing. The top flipped.
Rachel Dratch
Oh, yeah.
Brad Morris
But it would have felt somehow less woo woo had it, like, just popped off and like, like fallen off the counter.
Rachel Dratch
Right.
Brad Morris
The fact that it, like, did a little. It seemed like a, Like a thing you would see in a movie. Like, CGI kind of thing.
Irene Bremis
Yes.
Brad Morris
Or like a, like, you know, what was the Witches of Eastwick or something. I was like, this is crazy. That's my woo woo stuff. And I, I can't believe that I, I, I guess I do sort of. I'm like, there's something weird about the lights and the TV and the fact that if I, I mean, probably it's me just timing, like, the thing would dissipate or resolve itself on its own, but maybe I'm a believer now, you guys. Yeah.
Irene Bremis
And, Brenda.
Rachel Dratch
Well, if you've been listening to the podcast for any amount of time, then you've surely heard me talking about my dog, Ruffles. Brad Morris
And once when I had went through a period where I guess I still technically have alopecia, but I lost all my hair and I didn't know what to do and I was like seeing all these specialists and I went to an ayurvedic healer and that was. I've never been to a psychic, but I went to an ayurvedic healer and she like did a reading with me where she just talked to me and like held my wrists or something. And it was very relaxing just to even have like this really wise, magical woman. Like just, you know, she's like Colombian. I loved her. She was like Colombian, name was Marta. She would hold my wrists and she would talk to me, but she had this Colombian accent. The best part was after our session, I went downstairs and they were like checking me out and there was just like this kind of middle aged Jewish guy that looked like he could have been like my uncle from when I was a kid. And he was like, from Boston. And he was like, how did you have a good time? And I'm like, who's this guy? Is Martha's husband. And it took it to a whole other level. I was like, I'm so happy. But she, she took me through this thing. And I don't know if you guys know about ayurvedic stuff, but like, there's, there's this thinking that people are one of four types, right? It's. And so. And so they take you. It's like Kappa something. Pitta is one of them. When she described to me just in holding my wrists like, and talking to me like, oh, you're a pitta person. Like, that's the. She just goes, boom. This is who you are. And she starts describing was like a person that runs a little hot, that can get like kind of spun up or passionate about things like good or Bad. A little bit, like, has that capacity. Because of that, there's this need for, like, space. Like, so I'm a. What is it? An in. Extroverted introvert. Like, I'm a person that I like to be around people, but I also really need, like, alone space.
Irene Bremis
Yes.
Brad Morris
Pittas need, like, cool. Like, I'll get really hot when I sleep. They say, like, Pittas need space and light and, like, air, and they can't feel like they're being, you know, sort of cramped. Right. That is really me. It's really me. And this is a woman who. There's no questionnaire ahead of time. It's just a person holding your wrists and talking to you and listening to you. More listening than talking. So I guess I'm.
Rachel Dratch
Woo.
Brad Morris
I'm full on. Woo. Woo. I don't know. And it's. None of this happened until I was. I just turned 50, I guess. I. I don't know. Maybe in my 40s. I just. Maybe part of it is, like, you just get older and you go, like. I guess I'm open to learning about all kinds of stuff and maybe about myself and I don't know.
Rachel Dratch
I have a question about the ayurvedic healing thing. I'm sort of curious because we haven't really talked about that on here, and I was wondering. You went in for the alopecia because you were looking for, like, alternate.
Brad Morris
It did not heal. It did not. No, it was not effective in healing that. But you know what? The most difficult thing to kind of overcome was for me with that, which is similar to maybe with improvising. Like, in early days, something that I found really challenging was. And maybe you did too, Rachel. And I don't know if Irene, if you have that background too, but, like.
Irene Bremis
Stand up.
Brad Morris
Yeah, stand up.
Irene Bremis
Yeah.
Brad Morris
Yeah. So, but, like, this feeling of. Especially with improv culture, when you're, like, doing the classes, there's, like, a lot of what's being asked of you. And I didn't do theater in college or anything. Like, there's a lot of, like, being as vulnerable and naked and weird and open to really accepting all of what that is that's coming at you. And it ended up being so important to me. And I try and, like, give this to my kids, and it's a work in progress. But this idea of, like, vulnerability is a strength. It's not a, like, a thing to fear. Right. So the more you can wrestle with it and get comfortable with it, like, the better results you'll have in a lot of parts. Of your life. So it's an ongoing never ending thing. Right. But with the ayurvedic thing, there was this. There was like. I feel like there was. There was a lot of different components to it. It was like an immersive four day thing. I was like, I'm not spending all this money on this thing. It was go in for five hours. First you do a cleanse. That was kind of gross because you like are drinking just like ghee, like liquefied. Like you're just like. Yeah. There's a lot of gi. Related elements to the ayurvedic thing that I was not aware of. And so it was. A friend had recommended it, but it was like the idea of like resetting yourself entirely. Ghee, like clean out. Not only my first enema at that ayurvedic place, but also my second, third, fourth, fifth and sixth over the course of four days, all with different. Whoa. What do you call it? Toppings? Yeah. I don't know.
Irene Bremis
Probably like herbs.
Brad Morris
Yeah. It was the Chadwicks of enemas.
Rachel Dratch
For those that need to know. Chadwick's is an ice cream place that I worked at that I have talked about at great length. Anyways, Chadwicks of enemas. Go ahead.
Brad Morris
Chadwick of Enemas. It was Shout out to Dorman's, Dairy Dream and Rocklink. Anyway, yeah, it was. They were, you know, day one, it was like, this is a chloroform enema. And I'm like, guys, I'll be honest with you. It's all really new to me. And again, vulnerability. I don't know where it's leading. I have to stay open to it, you know. And then there was like a coffee one. There was a.
Irene Bremis
Coffee's a big one.
Brad Morris
Different things. And they explained what the. But there was this other thing where they would. I mean, you're literally like wrapped only ever while you're there for all those. They also feed you the most amazing, delicious. I'm sure it's also because you're. You're starving when you go there. You're so hungry because you kind of are fasting, you know, for a day or something beforehand. But they feed you the diet that is best suited for your type. So you're getting the pitta stuff, which was like this really delicious, like lentily soup and then this and that. Anyway, there was a thing where they. Yeah, you're almost always kind of like you're just in a little like a sheet kind of. And then they're moving you around and there's people. There's one point. There's like, two people. Like, two ladies giving you, like, a massage at the same time. And it's not like a deep tissue massage. It's like. There's music. I'll be honest with you guys, the music thing was the hardest for me because it somehow made it feel comedic to me. Like, it's a thing that will happen to me in those vulnerable moments where I'm like, I'm supposed to take this seriously, but there's some part of me that just wants to laugh.
Rachel Dratch
Well, because it was extreme. It's extreme.
Brad Morris
So then you're like, just to make.
Rachel Dratch
A sketch like how everyone says over the top. When people go like, this would make a good sketch. And it usually wouldn't, but that probably would.
Brad Morris
That one would. And it was. It is the part of me where I'm. Yeah, I think, like, you know, when you have, like, a. That part of your brain that's always, like, automatically gonna laugh at something, it's just very hard to do an intensive thing like that where you're being asked to just open yourself up to it. So that was very challenging and in some ways, way more challenging. Cause it was so intensive than, you know, naming my ghost Brenda. And again, what a terrible. Why Brenda? It's not.
Rachel Dratch
Cause it came to you.
Brad Morris
I mean, maybe that was from.
Rachel Dratch
Maybe her name really was Brenda.
Irene Bremis
A ghost named. It sounds like an 80s sitcom.
Rachel Dratch
Oh, yeah. A Ghost Named Brenda might be the name of this episode, by the way. But anyways. Wait, but another question. So you're. So you go through this ayurvedic thing.
Brad Morris
And then when did feel great after, by the way?
Rachel Dratch
That's what I was gonna ask you when you were all done.
Brad Morris
Amazing.
Rachel Dratch
You liked the experience.
Brad Morris
It was, like, out of, like, a house. It was very la. It was the most LA thing I've ever done. And it was. Now I think she does it out of a hotel somewhere, but which I'm sure feels more normal because there was something about. It seemed like a house. It was like a McMansiony thing. Like, that just felt odd.
Rachel Dratch
Like they didn't have a business license.
Brad Morris
I mean, they did, but. Yes, that's how it felt. Like, it felt like you were. Yeah. You were going into, like, the house of a guy who. Or like, did you ever see Wild Wild Country? Like, you know, it felt like a cult y house, sort of just because of the way it was. Like, you'd see these, like, faux Italianate structural pieces, and then suddenly there would just be, like, a woman in robes coming down and like, you know, beads, and you're like, this is. None of this really fits together. And I will tell you, if I can find a photo, I'll send it to you guys and you can decide if you want to do anything with it. I think it might be weird out of context, but you might just enjoy it as humans because you're doing. But it's like me, totally like a hairless cat. Oh my God, I really do look like I'm glowing. My skin looks amazing. Which I guess is what happens if they pump different liquids into your butt for four days and you get massages and there's like this music that's sort of, you know, entrancing. But yeah, you do feel really good.
Rachel Dratch

But those are the woo woo things for me.
Rachel Dratch
Okay.
Brad Morris
I think I'm just kind of like, one of them was forced. One of them was not forced. One of them was. I was. I was looking for something. I was like, maybe this will help me.
Rachel Dratch
I'm open to ayurvedic.
Brad Morris
I'm open to the Eastern version of healing.
Rachel Dratch
Yeah, you'll have to listen to Irene's episode. You're gonna. It's gonna knock your socks off. But she had this whole natural heal.
Irene Bremis
Recently, and ayurvedic medicine is, like, up. It's the best medicine ever, hands down. Is Ayurvedic.
Brad Morris
I am a believer. I need to. I need to figure out how to kind of incorporate it in my life in a way that it, like, kind of works for me because.
Irene Bremis
Yeah, I mean, you can't go and get flushed out. You can't have enemas 24. 7. Also for your alopecia, Astaxanthin's really good. I'll send it to Rachel, and she'll.
Brad Morris
Send it to you. Rachel, I want to know. I always want to know.
Rachel Dratch
Wait, what's that?
Irene Bremis
Astaxanthin is, like, something that's found in salmon, and I have some forms of it that's very absorbable, and it's really great for skin and hair. But it's excellent. Absolutely excellent.
Brad Morris
I love that. And I've learned so much about things through this process, having alopecia. Also, my mom is a big believer in all the natural things that you can do. She also likes the Western. She'll. She'll. If she's got an opportunity to go get a just exploratory surgery, she's there.
Irene Bremis
You know what I mean?
Brad Morris
She's like, let's take a look at that. I'm like, what, Mom? No.
Irene Bremis
Alopecia is an autoimmune. So anything that beeps up your autoimmune, like, there's a lot of stuff. I'm gonna send stuff for Rachel to Rachel, and she'll send it to you.
Brad Morris
Some people would say rubbing, like, hot peppers on your head because it, like, makes. Makes things, you know, circulation.
Rachel Dratch
Did you try that at the time?
Brad Morris
Maybe one day. I did. I did. Yeah.
Rachel Dratch
But wait, so your hair is back? Yeah, I have some hair.
Irene Bremis
Your hair is back. Look at you, baby.
Brad Morris
I have hair. But it's. But that is in large part because of western medicine, so I have to be very honest. There was a drug trial that just happened to be happening Right when I was starting, I tried a few different things. The things that they offer and especially what they did offer years ago was like shooting up your every part of your scalp with like steroids or red blood cell platelets or something. Just very like painful, time consuming, expensive, whatever. And there was a drug trial that this doctor said, do you want to try this thing? And I was like, yeah, sure, why not? In part because. In part because as like a middle aged dude, I don't. The not having hair thing really wasn't bothering me so so much. It was an adjustment. The eyebrow thing was a big one because they're still not back in a real heavy way. But like that was a tough thing. So I started wearing like, like Irene, you've got cool glasses on. I, I bought like fashion glasses, cvs, sweetie. You know what I mean? Yeah, that were, you know what I mean? Like fake. They weren't real because it helped me feel like I had a frame to my face. But yeah, I went on this drug trial and it did work. And now, and oh, I was gonna say in part it was like, but with daughters and knowing that part of the alopecia thing is like you really can only get it if you have like genetic setup for asthma and eczema autoimmune and those things. And because I did and one of my daughters has it, I was like, I want to do this drug trial because let's just say that she finds herself. For a young woman, it's a whole different story. For a kid, it's a different story. I grew up with a kid. With a kid, a friend who had alopecia from birth. And so, so I was like, yeah, I'll participate in this. But now there's like four different drug companies make something similar. And it's actually a drug that was developed for arthritis. It's a rheumat.
Irene Bremis
Rheumatological Rheumatoid arthritis.
Brad Morris
Yeah. And called Zeljanz that they realized through those drug trials was. Happened to be regrowing hair in people with alopecia. So that's what it is. But if I stop taking it, which I could, I think like within a month I would be back.
Rachel Dratch
Whoa, whoa.
Irene Bremis
Oh, well, we gotta get you on turkey tail.
Brad Morris
I gotta get on turkey tail. I gotta get on. What was the other one that you mentioned?
Irene Bremis
Then I'm gonna shoot over all the immune building and regulating. Cause you don't want to build your immune to the point that it starts attacking itself, you know what I mean?
Brad Morris
So you want that regulation that's what you're talking about.
Irene Bremis
Yeah, that's right.
Rachel Dratch
Well, just so you know, we haven't really talked much about natural healing. And we have to stress that we do believe in doctors and medicine. It's just a coincidence and we'll go into it after. It's a coincidence that when you hear Irene's story, that we were just talking about this and she happened to have a big success story with this, but. Yeah. So we're, you know, dabblers in all the medicinal arts, I guess.
Brad Morris
But do you think dabblers could be a good name for our group?
Rachel Dratch
It could. As long as we still have the caricatures with the heads coming out.
Brad Morris
Coming out of the cabinet. Dabblers.
Rachel Dratch
I like dabblers and mixed nuts.
Brad Morris
Dabblers. Mixed nuts. What was it? Bits and pieces. Yeah.
Rachel Dratch
Yeah.
Brad Morris
Irene, we're taking pitches. So you think on it. Yeah.
Irene Bremis
You know what? I'm loving the mixed nuts. Mixed nuts.
Brad Morris
I think we see the more she says it.
Irene Bremis
Hard to beat.
Brad Morris
It goes from being like. It goes from being like a bit to being like. You know what.
Rachel Dratch
It says a lot.
Brad Morris
It sticks with you.
Irene Bremis
Yeah.
Rachel Dratch
Well, Brad, thanks. We do a pendulum reading. Did we tell you that?
Brad Morris
Part of it, yeah. So I think I understand it.
Rachel Dratch
You just think of a yes or no question, and then we'll give you the answer, and then you reveal what it was, and Irene will do it, too. So do you have a question in mind?
Irene Bremis
I'm still getting the gauge. Okay.
Brad Morris
Is the gauge getting set? Wait, I didn't even get to ask you. Do you think I have. You're the experts. Do I have a ghost here? Like.
Rachel Dratch
Oh, that's a great ask. Yes, we can ask that, too.
Brad Morris
I can ask that.
Irene Bremis
I mean, normally we don't. We take the. The. The question later, but I think this is safe. Let's go, Rachel.
WhatsApp Announcer
Ready?
Progressive Insurance Announcer
Okay.
Rachel Dratch
Okay.
I got an instant answer.
Irene Bremis
Me, too. Can I just see. Wait, hold on a second.
Rachel Dratch
That means she got a no and she's trying it again.
Irene Bremis
No, no, no. I got a yes.
Rachel Dratch
Actually, I got a yes.
Irene Bremis
I got a yes. I just needed to double check to make sure it was a yes.
Brad Morris
Yes.
Irene Bremis
In terms of yes, Brenda, you are for reals, baby.
Rachel Dratch
Oh, look, I just asked Brenda if her name was Brenda.
Brad Morris
That's better.
Rachel Dratch
Question said no. It said no.
Irene Bremis
Okay, see, maybe she doesn't like the name.
Brad Morris
Ask if Jordan's name is Jordan or not. For me. Can you ask if the dog's name is really supposed to be that? That's probably.
Rachel Dratch
Yeah, I Got.
I got a yes for that.
Irene Bremis
Wait, hold on a second. Jordan. Let's ask that one.
Rachel Dratch
The dog's name. Sorry.
Irene Bremis
I got a yes on Jordan. I got a yes on Jordan, too.
Brad Morris
Double, double yes.
Rachel Dratch
Double yes. Okay. So, Brett, what is your question that you're gonna think and not tell us? And then we'll ask and then we'll give you answer.
Brad Morris
Okay?
Rachel Dratch
Okay. Okay. Are you thinking of it?
Brad Morris
Yeah. Okay. Yeah.
Rachel Dratch
Okay, ready? Here we go. Okay, I got my answer right away.
Irene Bremis
Okay, I got it. It was instant. It's a yes.
Rachel Dratch
I got a yes, too.
Brad Morris
Okay.
Rachel Dratch
Oh, look at his eyes.
Oh, he didn't.
He didn't want it yet. He didn't want it yet. Look at his eyes.
They're wide.
Abercrombie Kids Announcer
What is it?
Irene Bremis
They're wide as hell.
Brad Morris
No.
Rachel Dratch
Brat.
Irene Bremis
What's going on here?
Brad Morris
I just wanted to know if I was gonna be still living in Los Angeles in 10 years. And I don't think that's the answer that I necessarily. I'm ready for a change. Maybe ready for change in a little bit, but it's okay. It's all right. It's not the end of the world.
Rachel Dratch
And I. Yeah, also, Irene doesn't like when I say this, but the pendulum isn't always right. There's room for.
Irene Bremis
Have to give him some comfort in heart.
Rachel Dratch
There's room for.
Brad Morris
Well, I'm open to. I'm open to everything.
Irene Bremis
And also Will over Penji. Will over Penji.
Rachel Dratch
Brad, thank you so much for joining us and thank you for introducing us to Brenda and it was great to see you and chat with you and I'll see you at the next. Next Mixed Nuts show.

Rachel Dratch

Good point.
Irene Bremis
Awesome.

Episode: Brad Morris: A Ghost Named Brenda
Date: September 10, 2025
Host: Rachel Dratch
Co-host: Irene Bremis
Guest: Brad Morris
In this episode, Rachel Dratch and Irene Bremis welcome actor, comedian, and fellow improviser Brad Morris. The trio dives into Brad’s personal encounters with the supernatural—most notably, his story of cohabiting with a ghost named Brenda in his Los Angeles home. They blend heartfelt curiosity and classic comic banter, discussing the spectrum of woo woo—from burning sage and naming spirits to ayurvedic healing retreats and pendulum readings. The episode explores how openness to the unexplained can shift with age, and how vulnerability and humor can transform even the spookiest of situations.
| Timestamp | Segment | |-------------|--------------------------------------------------------------| | 01:08 | Rachel introduces Brad & improviser backstory | | 03:27–07:56 | The saga of naming the improv troupe; “Mixed Nuts” origins | | 11:51 | Brad’s childhood “ghost” stories; segue into LA supernatural | | 13:12–16:37 | Skepticism vs. strange events: flickering, TV glitches | | 18:00–21:36 | Communicating with “Brenda”; martini shaker incident | | 25:07 | Openness to the unexplained, embracing “woo woo” | | 27:15–35:03 | Ayurvedic retreat experience | | 38:13–41:13 | Autoimmune, alopecia, natural vs. Western med discussion | | 42:13–44:51 | Troupe names redux; group pendulum reading |
The episode glides between skepticism and belief, highlighting how woo woo moments can sneak up on even the most rational among us—especially with good company and a sense of humor. Brad’s story of the ghost named Brenda serves as both a spooky anecdote and a metaphor for opening up to life’s mysteries (sometimes literally inviting them in by name!). The honest discussion of alternative healing, medical journeys, and the interplay between Eastern and Western approaches is as down-to-earth as it is quirky and curious.

“We never want to be seen as total wackadoos. But then when you just open yourself up and you’re like, what if...ghost named Brenda!”
