Hello and welcome to Woo Woo with Rachel Dratch, here with my pal and co host, Irene Bremes. Hi, Irene.
Jill Dearman
Hello, sweetie.
Rachel Dratch
Hello, Irene. It feels like it's been ages, but it's probably been like two days.
Irene Bremes
But that's the DTS.
Rachel Dratch
We get the DTs when we're not with each other. Well, we're excited to have. Oh my gosh, a Woo Woo expert. I'm gonna call you an expert, but we have writer, astrologer, teacher. Yes. And all around one with the spirits. There, I said it. Please welcome Jill Dearman to the show. Hi, Jill.
Jill Dearman
Oh, hello. Hello. Thanks for having me.
Rachel Dratch
So, Jill, I heard about you because you have a new book out called Superpowered Astrology. And I heard about you through our friend and past guest Jeff Hiller. And very excited to talk about this book. Got to look through it and okay, here's what I love about your book. And then I want to know first of all how the book came to be, but also your connection to astrology. And you talk about tarot and Kabbalah and astrology, how they're all interrelated. So I want to know how you first came into all this and all that. But what I love about your book, just to put it out there, is it's a very good sort of like, I don't know much about astrology except about my own sign and a few other signs. But it's a really good sort of basic intro if you're not familiar at all with astrology. And then it goes deep too. It doesn't remain on a basic level, but it's a great intro and it talks about how you can use astrology for your own life, which is what I love. It's almost like a how to and go guide for life through astrology, but a fun read too. So there I've cropped up the book in all honest, honest accolades, that's all from the heart. We've gotten that right out the bat. You gotta go get superpowered astrology. But Jill, tell us about, I guess
Sponsor/Ad Voice
we should start with your origin story.
Rachel Dratch
Tell us how you first whatever were introduced or became into astrology and all the woo woo arts.
Jill Dearman
Well, I guess When I was 11, I became interested in astrology. My mother and sister were obsessed with this book you might have heard of, called Linda Goodman's Sun Signs. It's kind of the first big commercial astrology book and really still really great. And so they were yapping about it all the time and I read it and I read about my own sign and then I found it very fascinating immediately. And then I really wanted to go deeper. So honestly from adolescence, teenager onward, I really self studied, I read a lot, I practiced on family and friends. Then I went to college at undergrad at SUNY Purchase. It was a swing in art school back in the day and I purchased Mafia and all that and I, my roommate was the editor of the school paper and asked me if I would write a horoscope. So I started writing a horoscope for our paper. People were very into it. And then honestly, after college, I always sort of balanced being kind of a counselor and an astrologer writer. So after college, the AIDS Crisis was. The 90s was in full gear. Really terrible time. So I was working in aids. You're doing research, counseling, but always doing astrology on the side, seeing clients and whatnot. And then at a certain point, I was writing columns for, I guess, a gay club rag back in the day called HX Homo Extra. And it was like a free magazine you'd get when you go out clubbing with the gays. And that became very popular. And then I ended up writing Queer Astrology for men, Queer astrology for women, St. Martin's and went on to write for the women's magazines. They no longer exist, but Ladies Home Journal, Red Book, all of those. It was funny kind of going back and forth between those two audiences because it would be like, okay, you're gonna be bottoming with a Sagittarius tonight to like when your husband complains about picking up the kids. So. And then I.
Rachel Dratch
Hilarious.
Jill Dearman
I kind of took a step back. I was always self studying. And honestly, from the get go, I just, I had a real savant for this language. I just understood intuitively and could communicate the language of astrology, as you hopefully saw from the book to the regular person. You know, I grew up working class Queens, so. But after 9 11, I kind of stepped back. You know, it was a very dark time. And I fell into this job teaching at nyu. Like I'm a writer and editor, so I was teaching, editing. The magazines had dried up. I kind of fell into being a writing coach, doing writing workshops, wrote a book called Bang the Keys for Writers, wrote some novels. You know, time passes and then. And here, here comes the woo woo part. Circa 2021, late 2021, you know, after Covid, but still during COVID I really had one of those downloads from the universe. I woke up in the middle of the night. I mean, this is not unusual for me to be. You know, I always journal, connect with the spirits. It's not unusual, but this download was pretty much like succinct marching orders telling me, look, it's great that you write fiction, but what the world needs from you is your one super talent, which is astrology. And they're gonna need a book from you to help them navigate the world. I think any astrologer hearing this would probably understand right away what I thought, which was, I knew as an astrologer that come 2025, there was gonna be a big astrological Shift huge of Pluto, planet of self transformation and collective transformation, moving into Aquarius, which is a sign of all of us working together, being inventive, detached, all the old systems that were in play during Pluto in Capricorn that are broken, falling away. And yeah, I just, I kind of got like, okay, this is what you need to do. I was working on a novel at the time and again the spirits kind of said. Cause I thought in my more human mind, like what about my novel? Blah, blah, blah. And the spirits were pretty much like, make it a novella, like make it short, get it out so you could work on this book. And then, you know, here we are.
Irene Bremes
Wow, wow, wow. I love that the universe is like an agent for you. Like it's giving you clear direction, which is amazing.
Jill Dearman
So clear. And I'm not alone in this. This is, I think in the book you kind of get the gist that anyone can. Just like in Ratatouille, anyone can cook. You know, like anyone can connect with the universe.
Rachel Dratch
Yeah, yeah.

Okay, so I have questions about the book, but I also have questions. Well, they kind of overlap, but astrology in general, I guess I want to know. I mean, I very much identify with my sign and all that. So that kind of sells me on astrology, but there's a part of me that doesn't understand as the layperson, like, how do you, like, let's say I'm a total skeptic. How do you tell a person that knows nothing about this? How the planets determine who you are when born and what might happen this Year or whatever. Just for the Dummies 101 astrology.
Jill Dearman
Sure. I mean, I don't think what's gonna happen this year so much because I kind of follow a character as destiny model, meaning, you know, wherever you go, there you are, that you're. You have self determination. But I would say, to put it simply, when we're born, our natal chart, our birth chart is kind of set as, okay, here is a map, an imprint of your personality and the world as it was at the time that you were born. And how I like to look at it is like, think of astrology as a language. So the same way you wouldn't say, I don't believe in Mandarin, you know, it's like you wouldn't say, I don't believe in astrology because it's more like a tool that you use, a language, and if you want to learn how to speak it, you can. You certainly don't have to. But I see the chart as like a. Think of it like a musical composition where the planets are the instruments, the players are us humans in our signs. And then the houses are kind of like the journey that we go on, you know, the tour we go on through this life. And the goal that we aspire to is harmony. And perfect harmony is not. I don't think it's possible in human form, but it's certainly worth striving for. So, yeah, I see it.
Rachel Dratch
I like that.
Jill Dearman
And the same way, I guess, I think there was a time and this was true. I think during that. Linda Goodman sun signs in the earlier era in astrology where there were a lot of skeptics and we have to prove this scientifically and, and I think actually astrologers at that time, and I may have, you know, if I had been, you know, grown up and cooking during that time, maybe I would have been the same way. I think got very defensive, like, well, we have to prove this scientifically. And to be honest, you know, I don't know that this is provable. The same way that, like music, love, therapy, you know, these are not so quantifiable by your typical, you know, very tight, you know, scientific terms. I think the planets, you know, they've been observed since, you know, time immemorial, you know, so since ancient times, you know, people have observed, oh, well, this, you know, the influence. I think that's been documented. And then I think, as you see in the book, and I think a lot of people are in this groove. Astrology kind of communicates through archetypes. You know, the Same way maybe like as a New Yorker, you know, your certain archetype as a New York Jew, you know, as a Gen Z. But I think what astrologers do, and this is. I think what's so wonderful is it's less about the horoscopes, you know, sun sign horoscopes, it's more about synthesizing all the different elements to communicate, you know, very subtle and usable material.
Irene Bremes
Yes. To everything that you said. I've never heard it so eloquently put. Especially like when you said that the journey is going through the houses, which is amazing. And also the archetypes are very important because I think I never heard that before, but it is true because that kind of sets the tone for, like, the type of person you are, the journey that you're going to have, how you're going to be reactionary, the reaction that you're going to have to certain things. It's almost like when Rachel, when Nadia was talking about the human design, you know, like, we respond differently to certain things and we put a lot of pressure on ourselves sometimes to have, like, a different reaction when that's not really in our composition and who we are. So that's amazing. I just love that.
Jill Dearman
Oh, good.
Rachel Dratch
And then how did you connect with Tarot and Kabbalah? Like, how do the. Cause we just had someone else on, by the way. Who? Audrey Allison. She's a medium, but she talked about Tarot and astrology. She uses both, like, in concert with each other. So how did you come about to use Tarot as well?
Jill Dearman
Well, when I literally, I think it was my freshman orientation weekend at college, a friend who read Tarot read my cards, and of course, I was blown away. And then I saw, because I knew astrology, like, oh, in every Tarot card there's astrological symbols. Also later, kabbalistic symbols. So, anyway, I just started to study Tarot and pract on friends. What I discovered there is, first of all, knowing astrology. You could certainly read Tarot without knowing astrology because I think it is very intuitive. And it's using the symbols to see kind of what comes through. It's almost like the spirits can come through these symbols. And then the Tarot reader is like the channel that communicates. But as an astrologer, I saw all the astrological symbols in there. I kind of studied that, and it really seemed like two sides of the same coin. Something that's interesting is, I guess also when I was about 18, I started seeing an astrologer who passed away in 2006. Her name was Maria Napoli. She was kind of the astrologer to the whole fashionista community. Isaac Mizrahi, his film Preta Porter and. But she said, just as a side note, she was this great, like, New Yorker, lived in a tiny, rent controlled Upper west side apartment, you know, filled with books, no space, dusty. You'd ring her bell. She was booked, you know, from, you know, dawn until dusk. And you would hear this little dog barking and her saying, fluffy, be quiet. And once a Fluffy died, you know, she'd replace with another Fluffy. But anyway, she was, you know, I certainly went to her for years and she was a great, you know, someone I really looked up to. But she said, oh, I don't believe in tarot at all. Because I think she felt like tarot is all psychic and with astrology you don't need the psychic stuff. You know, I'm much more like the middle path where, at least for me personally, and I see this a lot, I think both are used. There's a wonderful astrologer who passed away recently, Geoffrey Cornelius, who wrote about how. Yeah, that there's basically. This wasn't the title, but it was sort of in defense of channeling that. Yes. What's wrong with. We use the symbols in the chart and we do use psychic ability, intuitive ability, along with knowing the language the same way, like someone could be sitting down at the piano playing a Beethoven symphony. They have the expertise of being able to play the music. But, you know, someone playing the same symphony may sound different with each pianist because they're channeling something. So, you know, I think I just understand the. I think I just have an intuitive understanding of these matters and an openness to learning. And then in terms of Kabbalah, I think circa 2000, probably the Madonna years.
Irene Bremes
Yes, yes, Kabbalah, Madonna.
Rachel Dratch
Love her red string around her wrist. Yes, that's right.
Sponsor/Ad Voice
Sisters.
Jill Dearman
Yeah, but no, but I also, I've been raised like most New York Jews, very agnostic. You know, I really didn't know anything, you know, about the religion. And I wasn't so interested in the austere, you know, the sort of conservative aspects of Jewish religion or any religion, you know, very patriarchal, blah, blah, blah. But I was, since I was always basically a mystic of sorts. Yeah, I was very interested in that element. And so, you know, the Kabbalah is like the mystic, you know, Jewish mystic interpretation of the Talmud. So I started going to classes on again, Upper west side. Shout out to. There was a wonderful rabbi, Simon Jacobson, who would do Monday night Classes. And I would go there, and he would basically sort of go through these Talmud stories and Torah stories and, you know, like, teach about the. How Kabbalah works. What I found, like, my way in, specifically, was in Kabbalah, they use the Hebrew letters, which I don't speak Hebrew, but I'm familiar. You know, I've educated myself about all the Hebrew letters. Each one, there's 22, plus, some say a 23rd, like the silent or letter, but figure there's 22 letters, and each has a primordial meaning. So, for instance, you know, I just bought this house in Woodstock. And part of the goal here is I want to do these astrology retreats and salons. And I called the place. I'm calling the place House of Signs. And I use a symbol. It's the second letter of the Hebrew Alphabet bet, which means home, or more deeply, a spiritual home. So it's kind of like that anyway. So I think just a lot of what I do is just kind of take all these things. And I don't know if you remember that scene from with Russell Crowe, Beautiful Mind, where he's got, like, all the symbols on the blackboard. It's like, this is Keyser Soze at the end of Mutual Suspects, too. It's like seeing all these symbols, and it's basically, are you a genius or are you crazy? Who knows? But I really just. I think I just have a gift for putting all these symbols and languages together.
Rachel Dratch
Wow.

Rachel Dratch
Are there other times in your life where this has served you in a way that makes you go, oh my gosh, like, that's amazing? Or is it more just like a steady meditation sort of thing?
Jill Dearman
I mean, I think it's steady, but I will say this, that after I think the book was already in the can, like it was going to be published soon, I again woke up in the middle of the night. An easy way to do this also, ladies, is if you want to get these downloads from the universe, drink a lot of water and don't pee before bed. You're going to wake up. It really works. So anyway, but I woke up in the middle of the night and I kept seeing this letter bet, this Hebrew letter. And you know, my father, he was a New York City cab driver, but he and I were very close. He was very quiet, but he had been raised like super, super working class, like first, you know, first generation, grew up in the Bronx. But we would. And he was a weekend dad, divorced dad, dad. But we would like take these long rides in the city, you know, and just have these talks that were like exploring, you know, the Torah. And I do feel like if he had had a different upbringing, like if he had been born into an upper middle class family or something, he would have studied and known all this stuff. But he had enough knowledge just from being first generation from his family to I think really understand, you know, Kabbalah, you know, on some level and transmit it to me. So I always feel like my father is sort of part of this Kabbalistic communication. But anyway, I woke up in the middle of night, saw the symbol bet and I wrote it down. I drew it and I felt like the message I was getting is to create a house of wisdom, like a home, a spiritual home. In the past, I had thought about, well, maybe someday I'll open up. You know, like, they have the Kabbalah center and all these different centers, you know, open center, maybe I can open up something like that. But I always had this feeling because I'm very homey, like, well, it'd be really nice to, like, open up my own home. And then it all just sort of fell into place. This Woodstock home came up. I named it the House of Signs. And really, you know, and Woodstock is very. I was really looking for community, like a lot of us right now. And it's very much a community here. So, yeah, I think just the. This message, you know, came to me. So. Yeah, and I will just say also as a side note, you know, often when doing. I don't know if you guys have had this, if you've had your chart done, but sometimes when you're sitting down as astrologer, sitting down with a client for 90 minutes, it's like things come up that there's an actress, very well known and wonderful supporting actress, who wrote to me years ago saying, you know, you did my chart years ago and you said I was going to get really famous in my 50s. And she did. So things happen ahead of time. That happens a lot. I'm sure you hear that a lot.
Sponsor/Ad Voice
That's cool.
Rachel Dratch
So turning to your book, first of all, one thing that I. Okay, so you start out about this new age that we're in with Pluto and talking about how that's shifting everything. So I want to ask about that, but then it's almost like a how to. Like how to use astrology in your life. And I love the last section about sort of these exercises you can do or practices. And I'm realizing, just hearing you talk like a lot of them. Because you said you drew your letter, the symbol. Yeah, a lot of the stuff. It's very sort of practical exercises in terms of, I'm realizing, connecting things to your body. Like, it's do this action, do this drawing. You know, a lot of it is stuff to actually feel or manifest physically, which I think is really cool. Sort of intro to, whether it's kind of manifesting or picturing who you want to be or who you're going to be. But I'll let you talk about that. So anyway, I don't know if you want to just talk a little bit about the book.
Jill Dearman
Sure. So. And yeah, I think Your assessment is, is right on. And it's interesting just before I jump into that, you know, how books like the Body Keeps the Score, you know, have become like, who would have thought growing up that a book like that would be a bestseller, you know. But now it's like just like the way acupuncture seem like wild and out there in our parents era now it's like everyone does acupuncture. So I think the world is kind of ready to work with their nervous systems more. Everyone does this in some way, even just in regular therapy, I think. Anyway, so for the book, it's set up as four steps. Step one is learning about the Pluto in Aquarius era. It's sort of like when you go to the movies and you hear, you know, their previews and they say in a world, you know, so it's kind of like in the world of Pluto in Aquarius. So I kind of explain the terrain almost like as if you landed. It doesn't even have to be another planet. Like, let's say you've never lived in Japan and you land there and you have to kind of just learn the culture. So it's like, what is Pluto in Aquarius about? And in a nutshell, it's Pluto's, as I mentioned before, self transformation, collective transformation. And Aquarius is all about invention and innovation and forget the old stuff. It's done, it's over. And if it's not, it's gonna be over very quickly. What we need is optimism to invent a new way. So I kind of lay that out. Step two is your superhero, your astrological superhero identity and your superpower. I don't know if you want me to run through them, but okay, so Aries. Oh, and just as a prelude to say, we all know, let's say Aries the ram, Gemini the twins. And I'm not saying those bodies in the sky don't exist on. In terms of astronomy. But what I am saying is it gets repetitive. Like you're Pisces the fish, right? You're Sagittarius the archer. What does that mean? What kind of came to me because I love superheroes and comic books, was really trying to identify what each sign superhero identity is and superpower. So Aries the warrior, the power to take action. Taurus, the maker, the power to build. To take something that didn't exist before and create it in the real world. Gemini the messenger, the power to communicate. So we live in a time of information, not transformation. So Gemini really is being called upon to communicate essential messages. Of the times. Cancer, the guardian. The power to protect, to take. What do you already have that's valuable? Your family, your community. And what do you need to do to protect that? Leo, the leader. The power to inspire. We all need people to look up to, and Leo fills that role. Virgo, the gardener. The power to cultivate. Virgo has this reputation as being a perfectionist, and that may be so some of the time, but think about what a gardener does. It's like there's no nature is perfect, humans are not. But a good gardener can cultivate and make the garden grow and get rid of the weeds and just cultivate what's a little messy into something that's just more towards as it's meant to be. Libra, the artist. The power to harmonize. You see, we live in such a polarized world. So I think that diplomacy of Libra and the ability to see beauty in both sides is really kind of library superpower. Scorpio the shaman. The power to transform. Scorpio is not afraid of darkness and can take what seems terrifying to everyone else and transform kind of like the poison into the cure. Sagittarius, the traveler. The power to explore. Certainly Sagittarians can travel the world, but they don't have to be traveling the world literally every minute. Sagittarians have such great curiosity about what does this mean and what's this culture about? And why did you say this? And just always learning, learning, learning and then teaching. And Capricorn the Planner. The power to strategize. A lot of us have our heads up our asses during this time, running around with our phones and just really not very organized. Capricorn is really great at seeing what's the end game, how do we get there and staying on track and using structure. And Aquarius is the visionary with the power to invent. Aquarians see things like, I think they really can see the future and see what hasn't been tried before. And they invent new things that then become old hat but very, very important and aren't afraid to break new ground. And then PIs the dreamer. The power of creativity to create. You know, I think Pisces really has this ability, much like, let's say like when we're children, it's just like go draw or go play and can play pretend. I think Pisces really has this great ability to open the heart and be in touch with a childlike part and just suspend disbelief. Could just be for an hour playing or talking to someone and, you know, create something, you know, Brand new. So those are the signs of their powers. The third part is, or step three is collaborating with your High Vibe tribe. So how I define that is a lot of people these days know about their big three or in recent years, this term big three has been thrown around, which is basically your sun sign, your moon sign and your rising sign. And the, you know, you may go to a cocktail party and you know, say, oh yeah, my sun moon rising is this. But what does it mean? What do you do with that? I see the High Vibe tribe, the, our individual big three as kind of like an internal friend group. You can almost think of it like the, in the wizard of Oz, like the scarecrow, the Tin man, the lion. The sun sign is about our mind. So when you. And this comes later in these exercises. But let's say you have to make a practical decision or career decision. You could turn to your sun sign to kind of dialogue and figure it out. Your moon sign is about your heart, your emotional needs. When you're going through something, let's say in a relationship or just like a deep bout of the dark night of the soul, you could turn to your moon sign for help the way you would turn to a friend. And then your rising sign is about your body, the physical world. But also you could turn to your rising sign. When you're dealing just with day to day stuff that's a little hard to handle. Something that I think will be big in years to come. We're already hearing a lot about is there's this term self talk, how we all have these conversations in our head. I think the more we train ourselves to talk to ourselves kindly and use our own internal helpers rather than critics, I think things are going to get much better in the world. So finally step four is, you know, exercise how to put all this, put it all together and you know, put this into practical use. So there's exercises, meditations, mantras and. Yeah, that's the book.

Yeah.
Irene Bremes
Wow, that's amazing.
Rachel Dratch
Do you have any questions?
Irene Bremes
I have so many questions, but I will start with first of all, I've never heard. I love the way that you explain things. I'm going to tell you, I'm madly in love with the way that you're explaining everything.
Jill Dearman
Thank you.
Irene Bremes
Like just the whole archetype in the. I already said that. But also just now, the way you said that the High Vibe tribe, like you, you likened it to the wizard of Oz. I love that because that pretty much encapsulates exactly what it's like because I was Always kind of befuddled with how they connect. You know, I was always taught that the moon sign was who you really truly are, you know, but it's more about what you truly need. And I love that they can actually connect. You know, I always thought of them as separate entities when they should be working as a team.
Jill Dearman
Exactly, yes.
Irene Bremes
You know, so anyway, so I find that fascinating. And I guess my other question is, like, do you ever, like, are there certain signs? Do you ever see that certain signs shouldn't be around? Certain signs at all? Like, you ever do this astrology where people are so deeply incompatible? Is there some, like, is there some astrological science backing that up up? Like, are there certain.
Jill Dearman
In terms of incompatibility? I think most astrologers, I think, believe we need to get beyond the sun signs for that. Although I will say, just as a side note, let's say, for instance, Taurus and Aquarius are seemingly incompatible, sun sign wise, but yet I often find there's this va, va voom kind of draw fascination between them. That's just, just, you know, stories anecdotal. But I've seen some heat, you know, so. But I, I think, yeah, we're more than just our sun signs. And you know, there might be. Even if you have two sun signs that seemingly are incompatible, there's. If they're connecting, there are probably things in their chart that really do mesh together.

Rachel Dratch
In terms of the high vibe tribe, which I love.
Irene Bremes
Me too.
Rachel Dratch
Could you explain a little bit about how, like, you rely on. Let's say you have this relationship question, so you want to kind of ask your moon sign. Is this how it goes? Like, you kind of want to rely on your moon sign to guide you. So what would that look like? If your moon sign is different from your sign that you think of yourself? And then how does one work that.
Jill Dearman
Okay, well, like, let's say, I mean, I threw your charts in the hopper and I know you have a ton of Pisces Rachel, so I will use Irene just to start with. Because you have sun and sag and moon in Capricorn, right? Yeah, yeah. So let's say, yeah, like, let's say a Sagittarius with moon in Capricorn going through a relationship issue. Let's say it's with romantic partner, sibling, whatever it is. So one thought is, okay, something that I do that I think everyone could do. It's very practical. You take a journal, just kind of meditate for a minute. Like, just breathe, quiet your mind. And then just start a dialogue on the page. Just like IB for your initials. And then you could just say Mississippi for moon sign. So you just write it as a dialogue and you ask your moon sign, what do I do about this person? I really love them, but they're driving me crazy right now. And I really kind of want to pull away, but I need them. Whatever. And so then probably moon in Capricorn would say, okay, honey, first of all, take a breath. You're saying ten things at once. This may be your monkey mind talking. Capricorn is very good at planning and strategizing. So maybe like the moon in Capricorn would say, and this is individual would come from you. But just as an example, maybe the moon in Capricorn, your moon in Capricorn would say, look, why don't you give this a deadline like three months from now. Watch and wait. See what happens and make notes. Just make you know, just. Just make note in. In your mind, like, oh, this seems to be getting better, or maybe this person is just moody, you know, during these times or these circumstances, you know, so. So things like. Like that. So again, it's really just about. We have. Not only do we. Are we kind of like our own, like superheroes, you know, in terms of our sun signs, but in terms of this high Vibe tribe. It really is like, it's. We live in, like, such. Such confusing times because friend groups, like that term came into vogue, I don't know, I guess, around social media. And I see with the kids it's all about friend groups, but yet we're so disconnected from each other, also with technology and yada yada. But yet, even if, let's say our friends aren't right there to call, we have this internal friend group we can turn to that really wants to help us. And each one has a different task. Like the sun, I'm in charge of your mind and kind of mental decisions. Your moon, I'm going to help you with your emotional issues that come up. Your rising sign, I'm going to help you with physical issues and also just day to day stuff. So it's kind of like, again, sort of like the wizard of Oz. You've had these powers all along. They've been inside of you all along.
Irene Bremes
I love it. And I love that each Vibe tribe has this. They have like this superpower, like you said. So they all have this incredible power that can help each other, you know, like when you mix and match, which is amazing. Yeah.
Rachel Dratch
Yes.
Jill Dearman
I mean the same way, like, you know, like, again, if we just forget astrology, we're going through some problem, we might call up three friends. They're gonna have also, like, three different. Like, even if you're having, like, let's say, the relationship problem, you don't have to just turn to the moon. In Capricorn, you can also talk to your sun sign. Sort of like you might give the detached version of, let's say, sun in Sagittarius, like, okay, I'm having this relationship issue, you know, the things I made up before. Maybe your sun in Sagittarius would say, well, what are you curious about? Let's turn this to curiosity. And what do you want to learn about this person? And what's just kind of like fun and wild about this person, which Sagittarius always very into. And then if your rising sign is Taurus, the Taurus might say, how do you feel in your body? Do you feel safe? You know, with this person, pay attention to that. So yeah, it's like they're all, it really is like have like our friends.
Irene Bremes
Yeah.
Rachel Dratch
And the like you said in the part four of your book, it's a lot about sort of, you know, self actualizing, like, like exercises, you know, talking to your future self, who do you want to be, all that kind of stuff. So I liked that it gave you actual practical stuff to do.
Sponsor/Ad Voice
Yeah.
Jill Dearman
And I think also like. I'm sorry.
Rachel Dratch
No, go ahead.
Jill Dearman
Just you know, because of all the like doom scrolling and things, you know, ways that it's like, well, we're using our time, how about using it kind of more productively and just tuning in. It's really about like if we could all tune inward a little bit more and be in touch with ourselves and our needs and help ourselves then you know, I think we'd all be a lot calmer and then, you know, could help each other, you know, et cetera. Let the sun shine in, what can
Rachel Dratch
I say, age of Aquarius. I mean we gotta save something for the people to buy the book too. But no, but I was just wondering like, you know, in these times everything's just so precarious and uncertain. But what do the stars show us about the shift that we're in, at least in this country and the world? And what about. I don't know if you have any higher.
Jill Dearman
I mean I do. And again, I think this is something a lot of astrologers are on the same page about because what's going on now, it's like the strokes are so broad that it's sort of hard to miss.
Rachel Dratch
So.
Jill Dearman
So Pluto went into Aquarius at the beginning of 2025. It's going to be transiting so moving through the degrees of the sign till 2044. So basically a whole generation. That's also why I kind of wrote this book. Because I thought if it's just something that's a transit for a couple of years, it's not so relevant. But 19, 20 years, that's a long time. So here's the thing. I think we need to change our mindsets and open up to believing. So one thing that I think will help is literally right now we're in summer of recording this at the end of July, it'll come up in August. There's wonderful aspects going on astrologically right now where the three outermost planets, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto are all basically super simpatico with each other. They're experiencing, two of them are experiencing a trine aspect and another is sextiling right in the middle. We'll get into all the technical, but it's very positive. It's as if, like, let's say, I don't know, world leaders, I mean, forget the ones we have now, but let's say world leaders, new world leaders were going on a retreat to talk about, well, how can we make the world a better place? I think that's the concept.
Rachel Dratch
Imagine that.
Irene Bremes
Imagine that, sweetie.
Rachel Dratch
Imagine world leaders thinking, how can we make the world a better place? I mean, that alone seems like fantasy right now. But anyway, we can make it a reality in a world where we're leaders thinking about making the world a better place.
Jill Dearman
Well, so here's, here's a way to think about this. You know, we each have responsibility for ourselves. So it's like there's the Kabbalistic saying or Hebrew saying, you know, tikkun Alam, you know, heal oneself, heal the world. So let's say if, if each of us takes Pluto in Aquarius just as an example, like if you're curious, as inspiration to say, you know what, Pluto, I'm gonna look at what's dark within myself. What am I ashamed of within myself? Pluto is very about going to the darkness and letting it out. It's interesting that all these secrets are coming out in the world right now and there's gonna be more like more of these crazy revelations because an old time is ending. So again, all these horrible people who are in charge now, it's like, this is not gonna go on forever. We're in a transitional time. So I think as hard as it is, people need to let go of what they're ashamed of, speak it, forgive themselves, forgive other people, and then go towards Pluto and Aquarius. The Aquarius part, which is okay, now we're in a totally. It's a clean slate. How do we know we're in a clean slate? We don't. There's no way to quantify that. So we each just have to say, you know what? This is a clean slate time. And imagine if we all do that collectively and think about, okay, the old ways have not worked. Rather than, I think, a big problem in the world and this is on us. It's not just these crazy leaders is like, why keep beating a dead horse? You know, these systems are broken. So stop trying to fix what's broken and stop complaining constantly and doom scrolling. We all do this. And that's not on, you know, these crazy leaders. That's on us. So what if instead we said universe, you know, or Just my mind, you know, give me an idea. How can we create something new that's very Aquarian, to invent a new system that works. Then the other thing that's going on is Uranus, which is a planet that's all about sudden change. And Uranus rules Aquarius. So it sounds a little similar to talking about Aquarius, but Uranus is sudden change. Like, okay, let's say you're on a plane, you're supposed to be landing in, I don't know, in Italy, and then you end up in Beijing. It's like, okay, that's it, that's where you are. You're in Beijing. So it's a sudden change you weren't expecting. Uranus is in Gemini, which is the communicator, the messenger. Think about, okay, well, why am I here? Why did I land here? Each of us in our own lives. I know everybody just from my own life, and everyone I know and work with, everybody's going through this thing of like, what the hell? How did I end up here? How did my life get here? Things are personally kind of confusing. So what if we kind of ask ourselves, well, okay, what's the message? Like, rather than saying, why is this happening to me? Ask why is this happening for me? Like, you know how in life sometimes you're going through something, could be a breakup, could be getting fired from a job, and you think, oh, why? Why is this happening to me? And then later you're like, oh, thank God that happened to me.
Irene Bremes
Exactly. It's like a positive takeaway from a negative situation.
Jill Dearman
Exactly. And nothing is just like, let's say, like, Aquarius is a very detached sign. And let's say the same way, you know, money as an example and technology as another example are neutral. Like, money doesn't feel anything, Technology doesn't feel anything. And I don't believe, like, AI is conscious, you know, so we, if we say, oh, you know, money is terrible. It's like someone next door may say, you're in great shape. So it's all our, you know, perspective. And then the final planet to mention is Neptune. Pisces ruler is like the mystic has the ability to kind of tune into all the invisible things. Which again, love is invisible too. It's not just all woo, woo. And Neptune is an Aries. Aries is very much about being a pioneer, you know, it's a warrior. So it's kind of like, you know what? Instead of being a sheep, ram sheep, you know, and saying, well, no, no, no, everyone's saying this. It's like, how about self directing? If you get this, you know, instinct, impulse intuition from the universe. How about you be the leader, follow your mystic intuitions. Other people will follow you. You be the example. And you could ask your higher self, like, okay, what would help me? Or your future self? Like, okay, imagine the future you who's got it all together. It's like the wise version of yourself. They've accomplished whatever it is you want to accomplish. You could just simply ask them, what's the next step I could take? Or how did you get here? Or meditate. And you don't have to. Meditation doesn't have to be a big deal. Close your eyes. I'm a laying down, falling asleep, meditator. I'm not so official, but, you know, you could just imagine. Close your eyes. Imagine your higher self. You're talking to them. What's the vibe they put out and how are they different from you? They're you. You know, it's. It's you. But yet somehow they're kind of the better version, probably because they're more like. When I lead people through, through meditations like this often, they feel like, oh, well, my higher self, what are they? Like, kind of more confident, more calm. So, yeah, so, I mean, I think, yeah, it does really all start from within. And bringing it back to astrology and the archetypes, it's like, I can't, you know, one book can't do everyone's intricate chart. But the idea was hopefully this is enough to get people going, you know, pretty strongly.
Rachel Dratch
I also loved the reminder in your book and just talking to you about sort of the download, because it's something that I forget about, like in I just. In writing comedy, sometimes you do get that download idea, like just, you can't force it and you just get this like, boop. Like, bolt from the blue is kind of how it feels. But then just in life, like, I kind of forget to do that, to be open and, you know, like, kind of the answer is out there somewhere and can you tune your frequency into it for personal matters? And yeah, yeah, that's a good reminder for us all.
Jill Dearman
And one thing that everybody can do. And again, this is the thing. It's like, it really is like everyone can cook ratatouille, that everyone can say, okay, I need to calm myself down for a moment, just breathe for 10 seconds and go within and ask oneself for a message, for an answer. It really is. It's almost like think about the universe and the spirits. I definitely, definitely communicate with dead people, you know, probably like a lot of your guests and you guys like, so they're there wanting. Imagine it this way, they want to help. We just have to kind of ask for the help, you know. Yeah.
Irene Bremes

Okay, here's the question. This is very little teeny question. What if someone's like supposed their due date? Like my son, his due date was at the end of September, but then he was born like one hour into Virgo. Like what if someone's like due date and their actual date is different? What? Is there anything relating to what they should have been or is it just like you go strictly with their birthday?
Irene Bremes
Good question. Sweetie.
Jill Dearman
No, I think yes.
Irene Bremes
That's a good one.
Jill Dearman
Yeah it is. It's such a good one. You know, I too. I would. Was supposed to be a Libra and was born Scorpio. And I think this does happen a lot. And even when there's, let's say, a caesarean. So it's not necessarily nature, but I think the being. I think the child chooses when it wants to be born. I think there's still. It comes to life. The child comes to life from his or her first breath. So that's kind of when the chart is set. But, you know, there's stuff going on. It's probably picking up on things from the parents, from the world, and maybe, you know, just deciding this is what I want to be. I think we do choose, you know, our side. So. Yeah, I think if someone. Yeah, that's what I thought.
Rachel Dratch
Okay.
Jill Dearman
Clearly your son wanted to be a Virgo.
Rachel Dratch
I guess. So that was just a little tidbit question. Okay, sorry. We can go ahead.
Jill Dearman
Okay. So. Well, who should I start with? You guys pick.
Rachel Dratch
You can start with Irene. I feel like we always start with me.
Jill Dearman
Okay, so Irene. So you know, your. So what I was also kind of looking at is kind of what's coming up. You know, we had talked earlier about, like, again, I don't think what's going to happen is predicted in someone's chart. But think of the planets as, like, these are influences, like the weather, like what's going on culturally somewhere. So it's just kind of like knowing those things helps one to make decisions. Okay, so you are Sagittarius, your high vibe. You have Sagittarius in. Sorry, I'm looking at a small screen. 12, 11, 10, 9, 8. Okay, you have. You have Sagittarius conjunct, meaning you have sun in Sagittarius conjunct, Venus in Sagittarius in the eighth house. And just to say something about that, conjunct means same sign at a close degree. So your sun and Venus are always, throughout life, traveling very closely together. So even though Sagittarius is kind of a light sign and fun and wild and adventurous, is the eighth house, is the house of marriage. It's also house of kind of like our deep, dark secrets and traumas. So you have the kind of chart with that sun conjunct, Venus in Sagittarius, that I would say being in the right relationship is very, very key and healing for you. So it's like, even though I've talked a lot about go within, go within. And absolutely behind that, people have charts where it's like who they're with plays a huge role, much more so than other People in their destiny. So I don't know if that resonates. And then you have, oh, so Taurus rising. So first of all, sometimes I just kind of free associate. So I would ask myself if I were doing your chart, like, or what would just kind of immediately come is okay. What does Sagittarius and Taurus have in common? The first thing that comes to mind is both signs can get kind of down and dirty.
Irene Bremes
Just come to my house with my husband, sweetie. My husband's a Taurus, I'm a Sag, and we throw down, sweetie. Whoa.
Jill Dearman
The truth comes out.
Irene Bremes
Yeah.
Jill Dearman
So that says to me that even like that you have the ability with that sun in Sagittarius, which is very light, adventurous, doesn't like to stay stuck in the past, combined with Taurus, very earthy, could potentially want to stay safe and stuck in the past that together, like probably your secret weapon. And I know this sound cliche, but is being able to laugh at oneself, at being able to kind of teach other people how to laugh at themselves. Taurus rising in particular. Like, if I were doing your chart, I would. And what I often say, like a. A starting. You know, when I start someone's chart is that our chart starts with the rising sign. So, like, if you were to look at a chart, the rising sign is kind of like where 9 o' clock is on a clock. So that's kind of the point in the circle. So that's where everyone's rising sign is yours in Taurus. So our rising sign has a lot to do with how people perceive us. It might not have anything to do with what we're really like on the inside, but we're human, relational creatures. So what I find often happens is that people will treat us like our rising sign. So, for instance, having Taurus rising, even though you're a wild Sagittarius who loves freedom, everybody else wants to kind of have you safe, you know, have you, like, keep them safe, be very steady. And it could be kind of oppressive sometimes and the onus is kind of on you. I would say to let other people know. Let look, I need more space. I need more freedom. Or I need a girls trip or whatever it is, because they're not gonna give it to you. They want you there, making them feel safe. And then your moon in Capricorn, 12, 11, 10, 9. You have moon in Capricorn in your ninth house. It's interesting. This happens in a lot of people's charts where there's mirroring the ninth house is the house of Travel, adventure, also teaching and learning. The ninth house. This is a little tiny astrology lesson. Each house in the chart is associated. Let's say you didn't put any birth information in. It's just the template. The first house is always associated with matters related to the first sign Aries. The second house is always associated with second sign Taurus. So when we get to the ninth house, the ninth house has a Sagittarian vibe. It's about travel, adventure, teaching, learning, exploring, you having your moon, your emotional nature in Capricorn. Very good at planning the long term in that ninth house would suggest. Here's my and I'll tell you what's coming up. But I would say my more bigger archetypal prediction for you would be you being very much a late bloomer. I'm actually the same year as you guys. We're all the same age. So even though know Nobody's, you know, 21, it's still like you have, you are going to come into your own even more. Like there's going to be more iterations of you where you get more like kind of like respect kind of looked at for your wisdom. You know, even more than just, you know, your, your lovable, you know, more obvious qualities, you know, personality qualities. Like really your wisdom is something that I think people you're going to be known for. So and in terms of what's coming up, I'll just say this, I'll give you each kind of one tidbit.
Rachel Dratch
Oh, awesome.
Jill Dearman
So in your chart, Irene Uranus, Planet of sudden change, newness, invention is transiting your second house, which is money and home, home and property. And it's going to be moving through there for the next seven years. So to 2033. So this is what I would say especially if you're doing your little journaling and asking for downloads, you definitely have this huge potential to make a lot of money creating a new business of your own. That and it doesn't have to be like in contrast to what you're doing now. I think it'll all flow in a very related way. But creating something new that people really need and then using I think become rich from it. So I don't know if you want to write a book or if you want to start a business. I'm getting chills. This involves Rachel. Oh great. And just the last thing to say is just with the sign Gemini, remember the archetype of the superhero of Gemini is the messenger. It's power. It's the power of communication. If you can cull whatever you're thinking about your ideas. If you could call it down to one simple universal message. Nothing that can't be too vague, but it can't be too specific. But that just really resonates at this time in the world for people. And just keep like. I hate the expression staying on message, but stay on message. You know, I think it's bada bing, bada boom. I think it's all comes together.

Jill Dearman
Well, good. I feel it too.
Rachel Dratch
Well, I mean, move to Manhattan. That's. I'll leave that later. Okay.

trying to get her closer. Trying to get her closer. So we can go up for Marx at a moment's notice instead of a long drive. Okay. That's one for the stars. That's for the stars to answer. Okay.
Jill Dearman
Okay. So looking at your chart, Rachel, so you know you've got like, everything in Pisces.
Rachel Dratch
I do.
Jill Dearman
So let me see. Kind of like what's. What is kind of unique here. Oh, okay. Oh, okay. So maybe something you haven't heard before.
Rachel Dratch
Like, tell me something I don't know. No, I'm just kidding. No, because I don't. I don't really know about astrology. As I've said. I'm just joking.
Sponsor/Ad Voice
Okay.
Jill Dearman
But I'm going to try and bring this, like, not get. Not get too esoteric with this, but I will say this. Okay, so prelude is okay, in your first house, the beginning of your chart. Because you are sun in Pisces, but you also have Pisces rising and then moon in Pisces. But if we start your chart, like everybody's chart starts at that rising sign. Your first house, which is ruled by Pisces, is full, like a bazillion planets in Pisces. Okay. But then the place, like, if we look across to the opposite house, which is the seventh, the first house is the house of self. It's like self development. So I would say that so much Pisces in your chart, It would behoove you to be like, I know you're doing woo woo, and it's amazing. And you're helping all these Other people, the more you could kind of honor your own inner mystic for real. Just kind of like, you know what? I'm Rachel, I am psychic. I am intuitive. I can communicate with the spirits and just own it, girl. Oh, and might I say right now it's 11:11. Go crazy over that.
Irene Bremes
Yes.
Jill Dearman
Oh my God. Okay, so you know, so, so that is a huge thing is that self knowledge is because you have such a full first house. You have the kind of chart where you know, do therapy, do spirituality, do cryogenics. Like I'm do it all because.
Rachel Dratch
Yes, I'm gonna go freeze my head.
Jill Dearman
Okay, go freeze your head tonight. I demand it. But do it all because there is going within and studying oneself. It's not self indulgent at all. It's like the more the better in your chart. And then your seventh house has some key outer planets. The seventh house is the house of relationships. And you have.
Rachel Dratch
That's a zero. Anyway, go ahead. No, it's not. Now remember, there's no, there's no planets there. What happened? The planets have self imploded.
Sponsor/Ad Voice
Okay.
Jill Dearman
Sorry. Well, no, no. Yeah, yeah. So Uranus and Pluto are both in Virgo in your seventh house. The gist of it is this Virgo is an Earth sign. It's very work oriented, as you probably know. It would not be surprising if the great love that comes to you that it comes through work in some ways and, but or through physical, you know, might be like you're, yeah, you're taking karate or you're, you know, in the gym or you know, whatever, Horseback riding, you know, the gym.
Rachel Dratch
What's that? What's that?
Jill Dearman
Okay, sweetie, that's an aunt's old wives tale that there's a gym. There's no gym. There's no gym. There's no gym. But here's the thing, the big takeaway of this is sometimes Pisces as you know, can be very vague or hard to pin down. So you, I would suggest the more you can kind of set deadline like micro deadlines for yourself, for your own progress so that you're not spinning your wheels and think about relationships, about what is your ideal relationship. You know, do the Pinterest board, you know, put it all there. Like you don't have to share it with anybody, but really own that. Like that would be something lovely. And the more you manifest it in your imaginary world, the more likely it is to manifest in the real world. And you don't have to do anything to control it. You don't have to like, well, how How, How. Don't worry about any of that. Just do the fantasizing. Love.
Rachel Dratch
I love. Okay.
Irene Bremes
I love that. Yes, yes.
Jill Dearman
That's beautiful. And then in terms of what's coming up for. Oh, so Aquarius. So Pluto's in Aquarius, and it's going to be transiting your 12th house, which is the Pisces house. Like 12th sign Pisces. I'll tell you specifically what the 12th house is about, but it's gonna be transiting your house through 2044. So. So the 12th house is all about endings and new beginnings. So I would almost say, like, if you can get into this habit, or maybe Irene, your bestie, you know, will remind you that to just keep asking yourself and say it out loud. Because sometimes speaking words, it's like, you know, there's a reason they call it spelling. It's like we're casting a spell speaking. The vibration of speaking out loud. You know, just keep saying to yourself, I want to or I am letting go of blank. Doesn't always have to be the same thing, but it's probably a few themes and I am welcoming in whatever. Because you don't want to stay stuck if you keep identifying as the old you. That's who you're going to be. And you'll have the same old experiences, but there's a new you. And think about it this way. When I look at at just the template of a chart, the 12th house is closest to the first house. We go from 12 to 1. It's similar to the way, you know how a very, very old person and a newborn infant, they kind of have more in common than everybody else in the middle because they're so physically helpless, dependent, but have a lot of wisdom. Old people have lived a long time. They've learned so much and empathy through getting some knocks throughout life.
Rachel Dratch
Life.
Jill Dearman
An infant comes in with like knowledge of everything. And then it kind of gets, you know, programmed out of them. So let the, you know, don't be afraid to cross over into like rebirth.
Sponsor/Ad Voice
Wow.
Jill Dearman
That's what I gotta say.
Sponsor/Ad Voice
Love.
Jill Dearman
That's beautiful.
Rachel Dratch
Wow. So the last thing you said about letting go of this, I'm welcoming this. Like that could. That could be great for anybody. Totally. I mean, in a good way. In a good way, Absolutely. Yeah.
Jill Dearman
I think for you though, it's really like. I think I would put a certain amount of like, don't think I. It's not pressure, but maybe it is pressure. You know what? A lot of good things in life come from applying some pressure. Put some Pressure on yourself with emotional deadlines of, like, I can't. You know, when I reach this point, I can't keep saying this, you know, maybe give yourself three months to, like. You know, it's like quitting cigarettes or something. But then. And if you slip, you know, if you have a slip, so what? It's still like you wake up the next day and you try again. But I think letting go of that old, like, well, this is life, this is me, and this is it, and nothing's gonna change, you know?
Rachel Dratch
Okay. Thank you so much.
Jill Dearman
You're welcome.
Rachel Dratch
Wow. I just wanna remind everyone to go get the book, Superpowered Astrology. And it's not only, like we've said, informative, but also a how to as well. So it's a lot of fun. You know, we do this pendulum reading. Jill, do you know that we do this? And I always feel funny doing it. For a practitioner, it's like the student trying to guide the master here. But. But anyway, do you have a question for the pendulum? A yes or no that you don't mind asking? And then think, think on it. Irene, do you have your pengi going?
Irene Bremes
Yes, I got it right here.
Jill Dearman
Here.
Rachel Dratch
All right, well, I'm getting yes right away.
Irene Bremes
Me too.
Rachel Dratch
Wildly swinging. Yes.
Irene Bremes
Yep. Me too. Yes.
Jill Dearman
Okay.
Irene Bremes
Yes.
Rachel Dratch
What was your question?
Jill Dearman
Question was, will I do any international traveling over the next year?
Irene Bremes
Okay, bags.
Sponsor/Ad Voice

Rachel Dratch

Host: Rachel Dratch
Co-host: Irene Bremis
Date: August 5, 2026
In this episode, comedian Rachel Dratch and co-host Irene Bremis welcome writer, astrologer, and teacher Jill Dearman. The episode explores astrology as a practical and empowering tool for personal growth, featuring stories of intuition, spiritual downloads, and how archetypes from astrology, tarot, and Kabbalah can support transformation in everyday life. Jill discusses her new book, “Superpowered Astrology,” which offers readers both accessible guidance and deep dives into using astrology to tap into their unique superpowers. The tone is equal parts irreverent, practical, and genuinely mystical—inviting skepticism and curiosity alike.
“I read about my own sign and I found it very fascinating immediately...from adolescence on I really self-studied.” (04:50)
“It was funny kind of going back and forth between those two audiences...from ‘you’re gonna be bottoming with a Sagittarius’ to ‘when your husband complains about picking up the kids.’” (07:01)
“I woke up in the middle of the night...it was pretty much succinct marching orders telling me...what the world needs from you is your one super talent, which is astrology.” (08:00)
“Think of astrology as a language...the same way you wouldn’t say, ‘I don’t believe in Mandarin.’” (14:23)
“I see the chart as like a musical composition where the planets are the instruments, the players are us humans in our signs. The houses are the journey we go on.” (14:23) Emphasizes that astrology is less about prediction, more about understanding character and destiny.
“The Tarot reader is like the channel that communicates...it’s two sides of the same coin.” (18:20)
“I always feel like my father is sort of part of this Kabbalistic communication.” (26:12)
Step 1: Pluto in Aquarius Era
Step 2: Your Astrological Superpowers
Each sign has a superhero identity and superpower:
“It gets repetitive...What I am saying is...really trying to identify what each sign’s superhero identity is and superpower.” (30:14)
Step 3: The High Vibe Tribe—Your Sun, Moon, and Rising
“Think of it like...an internal friend group. You can almost think of it like...the scarecrow, the Tin Man, the Lion.” (34:38)
Step 4: Exercises, Mantras, Practices
“A lot of the stuff...it’s very practical exercises...to actually feel or manifest physically.” (29:09)
Jill offers brief, intuitive readings for both hosts:
For Irene Bremis (60:02–68:09)
For Rachel Dratch (68:27–75:49)
For anyone new to astrology, this episode offers humor, clarity, and practical inspiration for using astrological archetypes to navigate both uncertain times and personal journeys. Jill’s approach is open, empowering, and invites everyone to find their inner “superpower”—no prior “woo woo” experience necessary.
