I do Multipurpose entertainer. Mikayla and I were in the cast of Rocky Horror together. Mikayla left. She was already gonna leave at the end of June, so we miss her terribly. We're there every night missing Mikayla. I miss you. But Mikayla played Columbia in Rocky Horror, and so that's how I met you. That's when I first crossed your path. And we went through the whole rehearsal process. It was kind of like summer theater camp sort of. Right. It was very Kumbaya.

Yeah. And Mikayla really does do it all. She's a singer, dancer, and also. Well, I know you were on Pose and Lute and many other things, but anyway. And then we're going to hear potentially some woo woo stories from you.

I saw your performance, and you were, as the children say, fire. Sweetie.

[A]

Thank you. Thank you. I will take the fuego any day. I will take the fire. I. So I have to say, from the beginning to the very end, Rachel has this. And you know this because, I mean, like, y' all roll so deep. I mean, the roots are rooted. Like, her energy. Her energy is just so infectious. And she doesn't even have to do that much. And that's the best part about it. And also, she does the best and the most, and we love the most and we appreciate it as well. So, like, thank you, Rachel, for having me, and thank you also for having me. And this is amazing to be on because I have a woo woo to share with you.

Oh, my gosh. Oh, well, also, Mikayla and I would have. I'm just remembering we have our little. We had our little pre show moment where, like, speaking of positive energy, I didn't get to really see much of the cast much in the show because I was kind of off to the side. But we would always cross paths before the show, and you just exude positivity. I just loved having my little pre show check in with you backstage, but. So this was your Broadway debut?

[B]

Yeah, Rocky Horror.

[A]

Yeah, this is my first Broadway debut. And what a show to do a Broadway debut. Like, it was wild and the best wild ride you could ever be on. Like, I feel like I told Sam, I said, I think this was one of, like, the biggest highlights of my life. Completely.

Yeah, we have good energy. We had it with you too.

[A]

Yes, we do.

[D]

So I usually just kind of ask how. When we have an actor, like, how did you kind of get into the whole acting thing? Were you like the little kid that was always hamming it up, or were we always singing, dancing, or, like, and then was pose kind of your big break or what was it like? Just walk us through you and the whole acting world. Because usually there's some magic sprinkled in those stories, too.

There is. There is. I like to believe that Whitney Houston left her, like, essence in me after she decided to transition and go to another plane. But, like, so it all started in Newark, like, between Newark and Jackson, New Jersey, because, like, for a good part of my life, I was, like, in. In Jackson, New Jersey, but it all started in Newark, New Jersey. Born and raised there. Moved to Jackson, New Jersey when I was four. My mom noticed I could sing when I was like, one. But when I started, like, forming words was around, like, the time she started noticing, like, I had something. So she put me in the classes when I. When we moved to Jackson, New Jersey, and I remember singing the Greatest Love of All by the one and only Whitney Houston.

Yes.

[A]

And my mom was like, oh, no, we have to put her in. We have to put her in classes. We have to, you know. So she put me in classes, vocal classes and everything. The years of Jackson, New Jersey had passed me. We moved back to Newark, New Jersey, and that's where I feel like the magic and the permeating soup was happening. And my mom saw that, and she was like, I'm putting her in New Jersey Performing Arts Center. I think this would be a great place for her. My mom had friends there already who were working as faculty, and I stayed there for like, eight years until I was like, 18. Like, that was, like, where, like, it all happened. I got Camp Broadway out of. Out of New Jersey Performing Arts Center. I've worked with Tony Danza and Kathy Lee Gifford throughout of the New Jersey Performing Arts Center. I did my first recording session when I was 12, I think through New Jersey Performing Arts center, and I think some program with Camp Broadway. So all of it, like, happens at a very young age. And I just carried on with it. I was always a kid, like you said, hamming it up and being silly and stupid and funny and. But I had, like. It's funny. I never had dreams of being an actress or even in musicals. I had this idea of being, like, pop star, super pop star. So I went to music. I went to Berkeley College of Music. Did you know, the thing? And songwriting and all those things. And then crazy enough, I went back for, like, my last year at New Jersey Performing Arts center with a woman named Cynthia Merrill. Cynthia Merrill was the head of the program at New Jersey Performing Arts center. And she was in theater. She was like. She was the one that, like, helped put me in the know. Freddie Walker Brown, who was the original Joanna friend. She came to see it and that's how like, my musical theater life started. And I got an offer. Excuse me. I have five auditions. Sorry, that was a strenuous one. Five auditions to play angel. And got angel off Broadway. And that's how this whirlwind of acting, music and theater came into play.

Wait, you got angel in what show?

[A]

Sorry, in rent. Yes, 2011. I did the 2011 Off Broadway production of Rent.

[D]

Okay, okay. And so that was kind of your. Well, I mean, Berkeley is a huge achievement, but. But that was like your first kind of professional, like, stepping stone, big move as Rent.

[A]

I left Berkeley for Rent. I was in my first semester and left.

[D]

Oh my gosh, I love the. So we just had Taran Killam on and he started at UCLA and then he got cast his freshman year for Mad tv. I'm always amazed at, like, people that just launch so young and so like, have such a meteoric rise, you know. It's always impressive to me.

[A]

It's fun too.

[D]

So wait, one more little question. New Jersey Performing Arts, was that sort of like an extracurricular thing? Or was that like a high school where it was your day to day school? Or is that like. Did you go to Performing Arts high School?

[A]

Oh, yeah, I did. I did. I. I went to a school called Art, literally Arts High School. It's one of the top schools in Newark. And that was where I like had all of my four years of like classical training, media training, all of that. That's where they had all of those programs. There's extracurricular was like doing fashion, like fashion sketches, but like the majors were like vocals and dance and media. Media. And they had you build sets. This guy named Mr. Warning, he worked in like, he actually worked in theater. I think he was on Broadway for. For like a moment. And his wife was like, so, yeah, went to Arts high School. The arts was definitely running through my blood and all around me.

I love that your mom spotted this talent in you and really fostered it and really propelled you into all the training and everything, which you clearly love too. It wasn't like some sort of like stage month, but you were like so. You know, it's funny, there's a moment in Rocky Horror that I never told you this, but when you're in the time warp, there's that moment where you were doing the tap dancing up on the table and the faces you make. It always remind me of like a little kid in the living room performing for their parents, having fun and hamming it up in that little like, you channel, this inner little kid. I never tell you, but it's funny because now you're talking about this sort of.

But that is, that is who I am. Literally like all if I think you Met my best friend, Rayvon Rachel. He would, like, come upstairs sometime. He said hello. And then we went over to a group of people and they were like, oh, how do you get your voice so high? Like, how do you do the high pitch thing? And before I could say anything, because that's what best friends do. They cut you off. He said, oh, she's been playing in that voice for so damn long, that girl. I tell you, she's been. And I'm just like, oh, so you're just gonna give my secrets away? Just like that.

But yeah, I love that you said that. Because Irene and I cut each other up constantly. People give us for it. Absolutely.

We've known each other in the comments. They get mad at us. But it's that, it's. We've known each other for so long. It's like we're of one mind.

I did that on purpose. That's why I married you. Okay, and so then you're working in New York and then was pose your first big TV thing or was there

something that was like my first. That was my first big television breakout star thing. I had done like guest appearances.

Yeah.

On television before, but I had never, like, had number one on the costume before. That was crazy to me. I was just like, oh, okay. You put a lot of trust in me. Thank you for the trust. Hopefully I can carry this thing the way I need to carry it.

And I just saw, by the way, doing my scanty research. You won a Golden Globe winner.

[B]

I did.

I won a Golden Globe. I did.

It was fantastic.

That was the highlight. That was a huge highlight. That was during the COVID Like the COVID of it all. And I wasn't able to go to the ceremony, but it was so worth it still because, like, that felt like it was like otherworldly situation.

Yeah. Well, now, speaking of all this career stuff, and we're going to get to your woo woo thing in a moment, but we'll just little transition here of like how. How woo woo are you as a person? Because I think I remember you saying you had psychic moments as a kid or something like that. But also, did you. Did you ever do any sort of manifesting in all this? Like, are you someone that like, puts it out to the universe, that kind of thing?

I mean, obviously this is all the training this Is a natural trajectory that you would have such success.

It's natural.

And also throwing that in there.

Your mom was such a. She cultivated your career as an agent too. Maybe she was manifesting too.

[A]

I think she definitely. Oh my God, she was totally manifesting. Even when I probably wasn't hearing. I know she probably was like in the room, like just. I hope she gets this, like.

Wait, I just. I just remember you also said you used to watch Rocky Horror as a family every Christmas.

[B]

Enough.

Yes. So manifested that. Anyway. Sorry. Continue. Continue.

Insane how. It's insane how all of that. That plays out. But yes, like she. I feel like the whole family has this kind of in tuned, connected kind of. It's weird. Like one consciousness and we believe that there's like this kind of like divine ebbs and flowing kind of like consciousness that like gives us answers, gives us words, gives us questions. It's. And when we receive them, we receive them. And when it's time to not receive them, it's time not receive them. That's how I feel like it happens. But it's definitely been in our family for a long time. I would say so. And it's wild to think sometimes because it's sometimes so accurate that it's almost eerie. I remember my mom when she. When we were living at our old house or it was like a townhouse and there was a lot of activity there that she would experience. And there were times when I just did not want to believe it because I hadn't been experiencing it. But I was also at school while she was experiencing it, or I would sleep while she was experiencing it, but never took like notice in to it until it was happening to me in the same space. And then I was just like, oh, okay, so this is. This is real. It's just like it's so intangible because it's not. Sometimes it's not visual. Like you sometimes can't see it. Sometimes it's physical without. Without visuals.

Like, do you mean like. Do I dare use the word haunted? But do you mean like, like those kind of experiences or.

[A]

It was kind of like that, you know, like kind of. It was. There were times when she would be downstairs, my mom and like would experience wind, coldness. There was one specific, specific story I overheard her saying to my cousin one day that she was downstairs reading the newspaper and like a spirit came to her and told her, or excuse me, not told her, asked her, did you see me in the obituary today? And I. I'll never forget that. I'll never forget that ever. And it was just I run into this day. I don't think she remembers that. And sometimes like those instances you don't. Some of them you do very specifically. But yeah, that was very specific for me and it freaked me out. And then I started feeling in also seeing things in that house and realized, oh okay, this is not like just something that she's fathoming. This is real.

Was there any sort of a historical, some history with that house at all? Did you ever look into the history, the historical timeline to see if trying to remember?

[A]

I think she did, but I can't. We haven't even talked about that house in so long I can't remember. I do remember her speaking about like the soil that it was on before it was built, but I can't remember anything else.

and then did you say that you guys had like psychic sort of, or did I make that up? I wasn't sure if time. In just a quick chat, you said that you had sort of psychic moments or did I. Did I create that out of thin air?

No, you didn't. I have definitely had some psychic moments. A lot of them have. They happen like it's. It's not mild, nor is it not severe. You would say it's moderate. But like, there have been instances that I've either dreamed that have happened. There have been instances that I felt that I will tell you guys about and if this is the time to talk about it, I can tell you about that.

But I remember in the time of COVID when we were all locked in our homes, we had a lot of time to ourselves. So a lot of people were either playing video games all the time, cooking, singing, learning new hobbies, doing new things. I for one, was meditating because I like to meditate. It makes me feel good and it makes me feel centered and it makes me feel more than anything in tune and connected with the most powerful and all high, like higher being. So I did that a lot. And in the time of doing that in Covid, and this was like around 20, this was in 21, and I think it was like nearing towards the end of lockdown. And I had been getting a lot of vivid dreams. Some of them came which came to full fruition now, and some that I'M still, like, trying to make out to this, like, very day, to this very moment. Anyways, October 29th of 2021. I had been feeling kind of off, and I think it had been because I was staying up all night and, like, drinking these matcha drinks and trying to really rationale, like, what was going on in the world in regards to Covid and how I was trying to center myself with meditating in the morning and not letting my brain get the best of me and also trying to rationale these dreams. And then just one night, I remember telling Steven I was upstairs, and I was just like, I'm not feeling right. Like, I just don't feel good. Like, something just does not feel feel right. I can't put my finger on it. I don't know what it is. And he said, are you sure it's not those matcha spritz peach drinks that you're drinking? And I said, please, not today. Like, this is not the time to find a joke in this. Okay, yes, I've been drinking those matcha drinks, and it has definitely been doing a number on me. Yes, I've stayed up two days straight. Sorry about it. Playing the Sims. Don't judge me for it. So I'm annoyed with him. I go downstairs and my mom and my best friend Rayvon are having a conversation. And I'm like, jittery. I had actually just had one of those matcha peach sparkly sprucey drinks. And it didn't make the feelings or the claim of what I was feeling better because they didn't really believe me. But I think this was 29th night. I go downstairs and I tell my mother and Rayvon, I said, something bad I feel is about to happen. And I just don't know what. Where to put my finger on it, but it's drawing to you. And I pointed to my mom. She said, me and Rayvon was like, girl, I don't know what you're talking about. And she said, no, stop, Rayvon, continue. And I said, I just don't know. It feels uncomfortable. And I feel. I don't. I don't know how to place words to it, but it's not a good feeling, and it hurts. So I remember her saying, go upstairs, girl. You've had too many of those peach sparkling matcha drinks. You've been drinking them every single day. You've stayed up two days straight. You are probably just, like, on a caffeine high, and you're just jittery, and you're probably just, like, overthinking And I said, no, you guys, you just don't understand. Like, it's. This is. I feel this. I really feel this. So I go upstairs and I tell Steven I said, I just don't believe anything I say. I'm just having a moment for myself because I'm a Capricorn and we're very. You know, we can be hard headed sometimes. So we go to sleep that night. I have a dream. I wake up and I'm in one of my old childhood friends apartments. His name is Christopher. I'll say, christopher, go for this. Christopher go. I was in his old childhood apartment, but it was distorted because I don't think that was the reasoning for the dream. I leave, there's a whole bunch of kids in the room. I don't know what it means. I'm waking up and I'm like, all these kids in this room. And where is Chris? Why is he not here? So I leave the room. When I leave the room, there's a long table. And the table has like 12 seats. And everyone's in those seats. And then there are like specific people in those seats, some celebrities. And I'm like, what are y' all doing in here? And this is a kitchen. Like, it's a kitchen mixed with a family room. It's long. It's really weird and distorted. Like dreams are. So I look and I walk and I go, yeah, I don't think there's a reason for this. And I'm very, very cognizant and very aware when it comes to dreams. I'm very. Even with lucid dreams, when I'm feeling something, I'm feeling it. When there's a tear on my face, I feel the tear. Like that's how real it is for me. So I'm very, very hyper aware. And I'm just like, no, this is. This is not for me. But hey, y'. All. So I walk past the table, walk out of this apartment, this dream ap And I stand outside and it's pretty cold, it's kind of frigid. And I turn away from the door and I'm like talking to myself. Like, what does this mean? Like, why the hell am I here? This is me. No sense why I'm here. And I turn and another friend of mine named Chris, who, God rest his soul, he committed suicide, he comes to me and I turned and I said, chris, what are you doing here? I was just in another Christmas room. It makes no sense. He was like, oh, that was a reason. That was a reasoning for you to be led to me. And I'm sitting there, and I'm like, okay, well, what. What's the reasoning? He said, I just want to let you know that I'm okay. I was just like, where do I go from here? He says, you always thinking. You're always doing too much. And I get frustrated, as I usually do, and I go, you know, I'm not even talking to you right now because you just get me. And he used to actually get me, like, flustered. And he used to like to get me flustered. So I think he did that. And I just turned around and started, like, going off and funny, like it wasn't serious. And I turn around, and he's not there anymore. Oh, sorry. Excuse me. Missed a really big, big important part of the story. He. Before he goes and before I have that moment, he said before he left, who has Covid? That's what he said. He said, who's Covid? And I said, who are you talking about? Who has covet? And that's when I got, like, frustrated and, like, turned around. And then I turned back around. He's not there. Person who walks back is my cousin Kevin with milk in his hand. And he walks in. I look at that. At that point, everything goes black. And I wake up from the dream, right? So now it is the next day, and I wake up from this dream, and I always shake my boyfriend up, like, to tell him the dream. He hates it. I feel like he wants to just, like, yell at me and, like. And I. I have to get it out because if I don't same, it's gone. So I'm telling him, like, Chris came to me in a dream. You wouldn't believe it. I just. He told me he's okay, but he also told me someone has Covid Steven. And you wouldn't believe. I start smelling. I sniff and I say, steven, do you smell that? He says, smell wet. Next thing you know, the fire alarm is going off. I'm like, that's smoke. The fire along is. Alarm is ringing loud. I'm like, what is. What is going on? So I'm freaking out now. I go downstairs. I run downstairs. My best friend is in the room that I'm actually in right now. I run past that room and I run downstairs and I see a fire in the corner over by our stove. And I see my mother grabbing the food that was once in there and trying to put it out. And as I see her grabbing it, I see dripping off of her face. That was skin coming off her face. She had gotten burned and she had, like, I would say, second degree burns from this fire. And I came downstairs and I look and I go, oh, my God. My best friend Rayvon comes down. He said, what's wrong? Stops and literally in the middle of him saying anything, and he. Our language is like, bitch, bitch, bitch.

Ours too, actually.

Okay, so you understand, He. He goes, he says to me, bitch. Is that what you were talking about yesterday? You were right. And as I look at him and I said, I told you. I told you. I knew something. I knew something was going to happen. I knew it was going to happen to her. So I. We're talking, like under our breath, almost like it's out of a movie. And then I go, mommy, let's go. Let's take you into the bathroom and let's, like, clean you off. And like, let's call the hospital. And I mean, we didn't need the hospital at that point. And she's fine. But, like, I think I freaked her out a little bit with what I told her yesterday. Also me being freaked out that that had just happened in front of me. And Rayvon handles her, takes her upstairs, cleans her off. I go upstairs, I tell Steven everything that just transpired. We take a moment for the day and we, like, relax that whole day. We just relax that whole day. Because that was a full day. Well, half of that day, in the middle of the day, my mom gets a call, and it comes out that my Uncle Sam, God rest his soul, he had Covid. So, like, I had a feeling the day before something bad was going to happen. And then I had a dream that night about COVID And my friend Chris tells me, who has Covid? And I think he was, like, being joking. Like, it's like, who has Covid? And I was like, and then that very next day, it happens to my mom, and also my uncle contracts Covid, that very same, like, moment. So it was just all of that happening. I was just like, huh? Why am I getting all of this? Like, what is this influx of information? Why did I get all of this influx of information right now? It's not small, obviously. It's pretty huge. But like, on the grand scheme of things, why. Why a fire and. And me knowing about it happened? Like, what was the reasoning for that? That was my whole questioning of all of that and how that happened. Wow.

I so believe in dreams. In fact, Rachel and I were talking about dreams right before we did the show. But I feel like there were little clues in your dream, if you don't mind me trying to Crack the code for five seconds. Okay. The. The milk I think was symbolic of your mother, maybe like mother's milk.

Mm.

Right. Because that seemed like it was kind of a. And then, I mean, I'm going to go here. I always go here. And we don't. We can cut this out, sweetie. I'm just very curious. Are you religious at all? Like, are you Catholic or what you're. Or do you have any affiliation or do you not believe in anything or.

I'm more spiritual than anything. Okay, But I was a Baptist. I was Baptist.

Okay, so now you have. Okay, so here's what I saw. I saw like, just because I was raised Greek Orthodox, the 12 seats, the 12 apostles type of thing. Like, and then you have celebrities, so you're getting like these con. Like almost like not conflicting but dueling type of like, you know, like something that was you. An upbringing of some sort or something that you were. And something that you are or we're becoming and now are right. And, and just even Chris, like the two different Chris's, you know, Christ center or deity or whatever, you know, and saying that. I mean, I don't even know.

She understands. Yeah, the two Christ, one being here and the other one kind of like saying everything's going to be okay. So there's the person that lived and the person that then as, you know, ascended or whatever. And. And that's like everything's going to be okay. So that was your message of everything was going to be okay. Yeah, that's what I'm getting here at the. At. In Dream Central. I mean, it wouldn't make any sense at all. But the fact that you were Baptist, it kind of like maybe make sense.

No, like you're. I think you're spot on because one of the. One of the. Not even. I think you are spot on. One of the people that was sitting at the table was. She's a well known gospel artist. Very well known gospel artist. The reason why I mentioned the table is because I saw her there and I was like, what is she doing here? Of all dreams, why is she here? Like, why is she sitting here? And it was. Was odd. It was very odd.

Because I see all these clues, I had to bring it up just to see if there was some sort of a background. But Rachel, every time I have a dream, I actually call sweetie over here. Because she's actually, actually very good at interpreting dreams. Actually she's the gifted one with the dreams, Sweetie, let's be honest. Okay. But I had to step in on

this one because like some archetypes. Archetypes happening.

Yeah, exactly. Archetypes. That's the exact word.

That's right. But I think. But like the, the whatever. What am I trying to say here? The crux of the whole story is you having this psychic moment. Like a kind of a one, two punch. Like you have this big overwhelming feeling that you feel so strongly that you actually tell your mom. Like to me, that sort of validates the whole thing. Like it was so strong that you told people about it. That's big.

It was so. It was giving me so much anxiety. If I didn't say it, I would have felt horrible not saying anything, even if it. Whatever the outcome. Yeah, I knew the outcome. Yeah, I knew the outcome. I knew it wasn't good. I told. I said it. I said it that day, but I just had to say it because I just, I guess, preparation, even though you're never really prepared. And she wasn't prepared for that.

No, but at least she was okay. Yeah, at least she was okay. And then the dream.

Wow.

Then the COVID dream. You had like a big psychic 24 hour burst, kind of. I mean, I'm sure you've had others too, but it sounds like that was a big burst.

[A]

That was a big burst I had there. I've had many, many that have happened in times of like you said, when there's like sorrow, that's usually the time with a lot of it happens. Or complete bliss and heighteness or when they're happening at the same time. Yeah, and I've had them happen a lot. I don't want. I feel like I. I'd talk too much if I told you the other instance. But like.

Wait, would you tell us the other one?

[A]

Of course.

Okay.

[A]

This is about manifestation. So, like, I've had very, very, like, forthcoming, very, like, psychic, if you will, or clairvoyant instances. But I've also had instances where manifestation was a very real thing, and I did not realize it completely until this moment. So this is in the height of third season of post. We had been really pounding the pavement. We're trying to put out really good episodes and trying to get that Emmy. And this was right around the time when I had gotten the Emmy nomination for leading actress in a television film. And I hadn't known yet. I hadn't heard anything. So I had just, I think, finished filming a third season, and I had gotten invited to the Cannes Film Festival for the first time to walk the red carpet over the Kansas Film Festival. And I said, yes. My uncle at the time had been dealing with diabetes and also, like, underlying ailments in regards to hiv, but he was, like, kicking. And I had just flown back from la. The night had came to an end, and I just, like, went downstairs to my uncle's room, like how I always do, and I just spoke to him and chatted with him, and sometimes I would give him a little bit of, you know, mary Jane, we both share the same initials, so why not share in the same libations? And he. I remember him saying, light the cigarette. And I lit the cigarette, and he said, open this Dr. Pepper for me. And I opened the Dr. Pepper, and we had a long conversation about traveling to Germany and traveling overseas. And I was just like, I can't believe I'm traveling overseas for the first time in my life, you know, well, not. Well, this wasn't for the first time in my life. This was the first time over in the south of France, okay? And he told me, enjoy it. Revel in it. It's one of the most beautiful places you'll ever be. When I was over in the military and, you know, I was out, I traveled as much as I could. So I want you to do it and. And love it and enjoy it. I said, but, oh, my God, like, I don't know if I can enjoy it, because, like, the Emmys is right around the corner. Like, it's just happening and all of this is happening all at the same time. And I'm just like, I asked for all of this, but I just didn't expect for all of it to happen. Like, what's going on, Uncle? And he was just like, just take it with. You know, just take it in strides. So I lit his cigarette, and I went upstairs and went to sleep. Woke up the next morning, we went downstairs, we saw him, gave him kisses. We got on the flight. Me, my mom, my godmother, my boyfriend. And we went over to the south of France, but we had to, like, make a stop in Lisbon before we went to the south. South of France, because that's, like, how. How it works. So we get to Lisbon, and we get to the. The. The. The conveyor belt where they, like, give all of our stuff back and everything. And my mom gets a call, and I hear her scream. And my uncle had just passed away, right? So we're in Lisbon, and my mom, like, her closest brother, she only has two, just passed away, literally right before we, like, we just had just saw him the day before talking to him. I just spoke to him the night before, and I just, like, stood in Lisbon and was like, for me, death is a very. This is just like a little segue. Death for me is not very scary, but she's very intriguing, especially how she happens sometimes. Most times for me, actually. So I thought it was very ironic to me that he passed away before all of this, almost as if he were just ready and he knew that there was something that was happening in any ways. So he passes away. My mom goes into a state of just like, you know, shuts down. Doesn't really. Like, she had. Didn't really talk for most of that part of the trip. I call. I'm talking to my manager. I call him, and I said, I'm not going to the south of France. I'm not. I'm not walking the red carpet. I'm sorry. And he was just like, are you. Are you sure? And I was like, yep, I'm not walking. He was like, but you have to. This is the first time they've ever had a trans woman on the red carpet. This is the first time you have to do it. Like, and how would your uncle feel? And I just was like, listen, you are lucky I love you enough to hear you say that. Because I wouldn't usually hear people say that to me. But, like, I really appreciate you for saying that, because he told me right before he left. Go. So I walked. I walked the red carpet. But that wasn't enough for me. I had still been down, and I needed, like, two weeks to really gather myself because I didn't know how to deal with grief because all of this crazy stuff was happening. So I go to Nice. Two weeks of a break, and we take a good break. I'm talking about, we have good food, this tasty lasagna, walking down the streets of France, going into blue, clean, crystal clear, warm water. You.

We did it. You name it, we did it. For the last couple of days, I had been telling my mom and my godmother I wanted to go to this little kid store. And I wanted to go. It was a cute little, like, it had this, like, balloon. These little balloons that you could light, and they, like, go up and they have, like, these cute little cars for, like, little toddies. And I wanted to get one for, like, my cousin. And I was just like, I want to go there. So as we're walking and I'm telling my mom and my godmother and my boyfriend, I want to go there. My mom looks at a ring and she goes, can you get me that? And something triggered me. And I was just like, no, mommy. Like, no. Every single time. Blah, blah, blah. Like, I just, like, something triggered me. And I didn't think in that moment that she was, like, dealing with grief. Like, and I should have been thinking about that. Like, I should have been really considerate of that. But I guess my grief and my trauma trigger something where it was just, like, the wrong response. Totally wrong response. And it shut her down again. So we go home that night, and I'm just, like, down and out. And my godmother says, here, I want you to listen to this song. And I was just like, who is this? And she said, it's Gregory Porter. You'll love him. He's a really good artist. Does jazz music, also does R and B. He's fantastic. And I was like. So I just turned him on. And I just. At that moment, I completely became enthralled with who he was, the artistry, and just, like, how his sheer, like, talent, raw talent. And I just could not stop playing him, Especially this one specific song. Next day, I play him on repeat. I get my boyfriend hooked onto him. My godmother comes to me and she says, oh, you're playing him still? Wow. Didn't know I could get him hooked onto you like that. One day, just one day. One day I'll go to one of his concerts. I've been to him before, but I'll go to one of his concerts. And I'm like, oh, really? Yeah, Someday, click, play. Listen to him on repeat. The very next day, still have him on repeat playing him. I remember reminding my godmother that very next day, I want to go to this. This kid's store. I really want this balloon. I really want this freaking balloon. Like, I just want to light that candle. I light that match and just see her soar into the sky. Little did I know that balloon didn't mean nothing. Going to that child door meant something. So we're in, like, the kitchen area was a really nice home. And she was like, okay, well, let me just get ready, go downstairs and check on your mom. So I go downstairs and I check on my mom and I'm like, are you coming? And she said, no, unfortunately I'm not. I'm still dealing with, you know, just Alan being gone. I was like, that's fine, Mommy. I totally get it. So we all get together, and right before I leave, I just put on my headphones and I start playing Gregory Porter. And we're riding, we're driving, we take a stop to get some food, and then we wind up getting to the kids store. And Steven and my godmother get caught up looking at the cars that I said I had wanted to get for one of my cousins. And I walk into the store and I look to my right and who's there? Gregory Porter. And mind you, we're. We're. We're not in New York or la. Like, you're not. We're not. Not even in, like, you know, Canada. We're in Nice. And I'm just like, what are the odds? What are the odds that I play this? Me and him, Stephen, play this. We talk about him. My godmother says she wants to meet him. So I turn to him and I said, you wouldn't believe. You wouldn't believe the things that I've just been through, this thus far, and now you. And he says, you now me? What did I do? And I was like, you didn't do anything. I've just been talking about you the whole night, and you wouldn't believe. He cuts me off in the middle of my sentence and goes, wait, you're that girl. And I was like, what girl?

What girl?

[A]

You don't know me. He says, no, you're that girl from that show from Pose. He said, come over here and take a picture with me. So I was just like, okay. So I'm taking a picture with him, and who trails in? My boyfriend and my godmother. And she freaks and she goes, we were talking about you yesterday. We were talking about you for three days. And it was just like a moment where we had to sit down, take a breath, and go, what? What are the odds? What are the odds? So that's not where it ends. That happens. A day goes by and I'm laying in bed, I call my girlfriends, I Tell them about it. And I also, like, kind of vent. And this was the time I was like, venting and crying about just my uncle passing away and all of this stuff happening. Like, he liked Gregory Porter too. Like, my mom would play the music for him in his room and we would play it outside together. So I just was like going through this kind of like, I don't know. I don't know what to put. I don't know where to put through it to it aside, except, excuse me for grief. But the very next day was a big day. It was tone, it was, excuse me, it was Emmys. It was the day where, you know, they list the names for people. And I just was like, this doesn't make sense. Like, secret reporter. My uncle passes away. Like, what is this him? Is this. It's gotta be. No, that day, that day I got the nomination for leading actress. And I, at that moment, I was just like, no, no, this wouldn't happen randomly like this. Now I know when people say this wasn't like, it takes a village. Like, you are not. You never really do this alone. You can really never do it alone. Like, that's what made me understand what that meant. Like, you're never really. You're never really alone. Like, you really are. And I think my uncle, before they say you. This is what they say. You have 40 days here.

Yes, yes, that's. That's exactly right. The 40 days.

Yeah, yeah, 40 days here. And I do believe that first day he said, I've got something for you. I'm gonna show you better than I could tell you. And he showed me better than I could tell myself. And after that, I was just like, okay. All of the things that I've experienced, all of the things that I have in envisioned were never a lie. The family members that I have in my family who are four seers, who are, whether you consider mediums, four seers, clairvoyant psychics. It's real profits. It's so real. And I just. I'm one thankful for the. The signs. I'm glad that I can see them and I'm glad that I follow them the way I need to follow them.
