Mindy Thomas
Mission. Get ready for an adventure of magnificent proportion.
Dennis
I don't know what you've been told we're in a golden age so many discoveries that are jumping off the page While in the world While in the world While in the world While in the world While in the world While in the world While in the world Science indeed.
Mindy Thomas
A better way.
Guy Raz
Houston.
Mindy Thomas
The desert. A harsh, barren landscape of sand and rock and wind and dust and sand. Oh, yeah. And sagebrush. Thanks, Reg. My crew and I have been wandering this desolate area of Nevada for hours now, and we.
Dennis
Wait, wait, wait. Hold on, Mindy, did you say Nevada? We're not in Nevada. We're in your backyard.
Mindy Thomas
Yeah, I know we're not in Nevada, but we're just pretending, remember? Come on, play along.
Reggie
Well, does it have to be so measurable?
Mindy Thomas
Yeah.
Dennis
Can't we just pretend we're on a nice, pleasant hike through the basin of.
Thomas Fingerling
Nevada and remind us. Why are we pretending to be on a hike in Nevada, Mindy?
Mindy Thomas
Because, Guy Raz, West Union Canyon in Nevada is where those mysterious bones were found by that group of paleontologists, remember?
Thomas Fingerling
Oh, right, right.
Guy Raz
Wait, what'd she say? An alien florist?
Thomas Fingerling
She said paleontologists. You know, scientists that study fossils and bones.
Mindy Thomas
Anywho, can we get back into it?
Dennis
Fine, but make it nice this time.
Reggie
Hey, Mandy, quit being so dramatic.
Mindy Thomas
It was a beautiful day. My friends and I were having a lovely hike near the West Union Canyon in Nevada.
Reggie
Now this is more like it.
Guy Raz
So much better.
Mindy Thomas
Thanks, everyone, for coming on this hike with me.
Dennis
Well, now. It's too hot.
Mindy Thomas
Dennis.
Dennis
What?
Thomas Fingerling
He is right.
Mindy Thomas
Fine. Here, take this water flask.
Dennis
Hooray. Imaginary Water flask.
Mindy Thomas
Now, can we, please?
Thomas Fingerling
Mindy, are you okay?
Mindy Thomas
Yeah, I'm okay, Guy Raz. I just tripped over something. Luckily, I had my marshmallow knee pads on.
Thomas Fingerling
Here, let me give you a hand.
Mindy Thomas
Wait a minute, Guy Raz.
Thomas Fingerling
What is it?
Mindy Thomas
That thing I tripped over?
Thomas Fingerling
What is that, Mindy?
Mindy Thomas
I think it's some sort of bone.
Thomas Fingerling
That is a huge bone, Mindy. Who could it possibly belong to?
Dennis
Well, ooh, maybe a giant dog buried it.
Guy Raz
Like Clifford?
Dennis
Yeah, like Clifford.
Reggie
I reckon it's from one of them big animals with the trunks.
Guy Raz
All right. What are those things called again?
Thomas Fingerling
You mean an elephant?
Reggie
No, that's not it.
Mindy Thomas
No, no, no, you're all wrong. What we have here is a dinosaur bone.
Guy Raz
Oh, well, well, what a mystery.
Dennis
We should call Detective Mindy and Inspector Guy. Private Eye.
Thomas Fingerling
No, I don't think we need to.
Mindy Thomas
Yes, great idea, Dennis.
Thomas Fingerling
O.
Dennis
Detective Lily and kind Private eyes.
Mindy Thomas
So what have we got there, Detective Raz? Another case of a dinosaur being in the wrong place at the wrong time? I've seen it a million times before.
Thomas Fingerling
I'm afraid it's a little bit more complicated than that, Detective Mindy.
Mindy Thomas
What do you mean?
Thomas Fingerling
Well, it's not a dinosaur.
Mindy Thomas
What?
Thomas Fingerling
Technically, this skeleton belongs to a massive reptile.
Mindy Thomas
Uh, right.
Thomas Fingerling
Ahem. Dinosaurs and reptiles are different species.
Mindy Thomas
Really?
Thomas Fingerling
Yes.
Mindy Thomas
But if it looks like a dinosaur and walks like a dinosaur, doesn't that make it a dinosaur? I'm afraid not, Detective Bunker Ball, Jr. Detective Dennis. What do you make of this?
Dennis
Hmm, let me see.
Thomas Fingerling
Wait. Dennis is a detective now?
Dennis
That's Junior Detective to you.
Mindy Thomas
Yeah, Detective Guy Raz. Let me introduce you to Junior Detective Dennis.
Dennis
Mindy gave me a bat.
Reggie
Oh, so fancy.
Guy Raz
Wow, A real life detective.
Mindy Thomas
No, a junior detective. It's sort of like an internship.
Dennis
I'm paid in experience.
Guy Raz
Pretty cool.
Mindy Thomas
He'll be shadowing me today, Detective Guy Raz. Hope you don't mind.
Thomas Fingerling
Not at all.
Mindy Thomas
So why don't you tell me a bit more about what's going on here?
Thomas Fingerling
Well, for starters, there's more than one creature here.
Mindy Thomas
What do you mean?
Dennis
Yeah, what do you mean?
Thomas Fingerling
Well, I mean, look, I can see more bones scattered around the area.
Mindy Thomas
So what is this? Some sort of dinosaur graveyard?
Thomas Fingerling
Again, not a dinosaur.
Mindy Thomas
Whatever.
Thomas Fingerling
But yes, it seems to be some sort of graveyard.
Dennis
Wow. A giant reptile graveyard. So interesting.
Thomas Fingerling
That's not even the most interesting part.
Dennis
It's not?
Thomas Fingerling
Nope.
Mindy Thomas
Well, then what is the most interesting part?
Thomas Fingerling
These prehistoric reptiles were swimmers. Whoa.
Dennis
Prehistoric swimming reptiles?
Mindy Thomas
Yep. How is that even possible? We're in the middle of the desert? Yeah.
Dennis
Guy, Private eye. We're in the middle of a desert.
Guy Raz
Oh, this mystery's getting good.
Reggie
Real good.
Thomas Fingerling
Well, we've heard from reliable sources that this whole area was a Shallow Sea about 230 million years ago.
Mindy Thomas
Hmm. A shallow sea, you say?
Thomas Fingerling
Yeah, this whole canyon was about 300ft underwater.
Mindy Thomas
Whoa. But it's so dry now.
Dennis
Interesting deduction. Is that all, Detective Roz?
Mindy Thomas
Ugh. Dennis, that's my line. Oh, sorry. Is that all, Detective Ross?
Thomas Fingerling
Well, there is one more thing.
Mindy Thomas
What else you got?
Thomas Fingerling
We got a match on what species this was.
Mindy Thomas
Tell me more.
Thomas Fingerling
Well, here's the analysis.
Guy Raz
Well, hold on now. Where'd he get that?
Reggie
Who cares? Fingerling, we gotta move this mystery along.
Guy Raz
Yeah, I suppose.
Dennis
Oh, a piece of paper. Gimme, gimme, gimme, gimme, gimme, gimme, gimme.
Thomas Fingerling
Janice.
Dennis
Okay, let me see here. These skeletons belong to a species known as Ichithiosaur. What? That's a horrible name.
Thomas Fingerling
Ichthyosaurs. They were called ichthyosaurs.
Dennis
Oh, ichthyosaurs. Got it.
Mindy Thomas
Well, well, well. This mystery keeps going deeper and deeper.
Dennis
Agreed. Deeper and deeper.
Mindy Thomas
I think it's time we talk to the investigators.
Guy Raz
What? Who are the investigators?
Reggie
Yeah, who are the alligators?
Mindy Thomas
I'm talking about you two. You're the investigators.
Guy Raz
All right, I knew that.
Reggie
Well, well, well, if it isn't Detective what's his name and Special Agent what's her.
Guy Raz
And their intern.
Dennis
Hello, Inspectors.
Mindy Thomas
We're trying to solve the mystery of these reptile bones and how they ended up here in the middle of Nevada.
Thomas Fingerling
That's right. What information do you have for us, inspectors?
Reggie
Well, I got this.
Thomas Fingerling
Ow.
Reggie
And that.
Mindy Thomas
Ow.
Reggie
And that.
Thomas Fingerling
Grandma G Force. Stop throwing rocks at me.
Reggie
I wasn't throwing them at you. I was throwing them to you.
Guy Raz
And those ain't no rocks, fella.
Reggie
Uh, they aren't no Stop.
Mindy Thomas
Well, if they're not rocks, then what are they?
Guy Raz
They're soil samples.
Thomas Fingerling
Soil samples?
Guy Raz
Yeah, we think there's clues hidden in that there soil. Take these samples back to your lab and get a closer look.
Thomas Fingerling
You know, Mindy, that's not a bad idea. Soil samples like these can tell us a lot about what the environment was like millions of years ago. There might be some clues in here that tell us how these prehistoric aquatic reptiles died out.
Mindy Thomas
Nice work, inspectors.
Reggie
I'm the best at this.
Guy Raz
Yeah, looks like our work here is done.
Mindy Thomas
Actually, not quite. What?
Guy Raz
What?
Mindy Thomas
I need you to see if any other bones have been dug up from this area before.
Reggie
And just how do you want us to do that, Ms. E?
Mindy Thomas
I don't know. Go visit some universities or museums. You know, those kinds of places.
Guy Raz
Well, which ones?
Mindy Thomas
All of them. Now scram.
Reggie
Ah, hush puppies.
Guy Raz
It's gonna take forever. Grumble, grumble.
Mindy Thomas
Inspector Guy Raz, Jr. Detective Dennis. Let's get back to the lab and analyze these soil samples, shall we?
Dennis
Huzzah.
Thomas Fingerling
All right.
Mindy Thomas
Run, run, run, run, run. Special Agent Reggie, how are those soil samples coming along? Excellent. Let me know when you finish the analysis.
Thomas Fingerling
Well, what are we gonna do while we wait? Mindy?
Mindy Thomas
Em.
Thomas Fingerling
Oh, sorry. I mean, Detective Mindy.
Mindy Thomas
Thank you. Yes, I have been going over the clues of this mystery and have come up with a few leading theories. Wanna hear? Em.
Thomas Fingerling
Of course.
Mindy Thomas
All right, just wait right here. Walk, walk, walk, walk, walk, walk, walk.
Reggie
Push, push, push, push, push.
Thomas Fingerling
There we go. Detective Mindy, is that a blackboard balancing on a pair of rollerblades?
Mindy Thomas
Yes. Now, if you'll kindly give me your attention, I will start my presentation.
Thomas Fingerling
Of course. Proceed. Detective Mindy.
Mindy Thomas
My first theory is a mass stranding event.
Thomas Fingerling
Oh, a mass stranding event. You mean like the kind of thing that we see with whales sometimes where a whole group of them wash up on shore?
Mindy Thomas
Exact oritos, Detective Guy Raz.
Thomas Fingerling
So you think these creatures might have been traveling as a group and somehow got confused, stranding themselves on a beach, unable to get back into the water?
Mindy Thomas
That's the theory. What is it? Special Agent Reggie. I see.
Thomas Fingerling
What is it?
Mindy Thomas
Well, Reggie says that he analyzed those soil samples that G Force gave to you.
Thomas Fingerling
You mean threw at me?
Mindy Thomas
Right. He says that he analyzed those samples, and it turns out you were right. There was no beach in that location. 230 million years ago, that whole area would have been about 300ft underwater.
Thomas Fingerling
Right. So I guess that eliminates that theory.
Mindy Thomas
Yeah, better cross that one out.
Dennis
So what's your next leading theory, Detective Mindy?
Mindy Thomas
Okay, theory number two is poison.
Dennis
Poison?
Mindy Thomas
Yeah.
Thomas Fingerling
You think someone poisoned the fish that these prehistoric reptiles were eating?
Mindy Thomas
Well, not exactly, Guy Raz. I think it was the air that was poisoned.
Thomas Fingerling
You think the air. Air was poisoned?
Mindy Thomas
Yeah, I mean, this was actually a pretty common way for animals to die back in the day.
Dennis
It was?
Thomas Fingerling
How?
Mindy Thomas
Well, for example, a volcano would erupt. Oh, no. Spew huge amounts of chemicals like sulfur into the air, and every living thing around it would die.
Thomas Fingerling
Because of the poisoned air.
Mindy Thomas
Yeah, yikes. I know.
Dennis
What did you find now, Reggie? I mean, Inspector Reggie. I mean, Special Agent Reggie.
Mindy Thomas
Huh?
Thomas Fingerling
What is it?
Mindy Thomas
Well, Special Agent Reggie says that there is no evidence of volcanic Eruptions in those soil samples either.
Thomas Fingerling
So it seems unlikely that poison is the cause of these deaths too. Yeah, plus if it was a volcano or something, wouldn't we see a whole bunch of animal skeletons everywhere, not just these ichthyosaur bones?
Mindy Thomas
Hmm, that's a good point, Detective Guy Raz.
Thomas Fingerling
So I guess theory 2 is also off the table.
Mindy Thomas
Well, looks like it. Crossing out theory number two.
Thomas Fingerling
So what's theory number three, Detective Mindy?
Mindy Thomas
Well, theory number three is nothing.
Thomas Fingerling
Nothing?
Mindy Thomas
Yeah, I'm all out of ideas, Detective Guy Raz.
Thomas Fingerling
So we still have no idea what happened to these ichthyosaurs even after all of this work?
Dennis
Oh no.
Mindy Thomas
A dead end, I'm afraid. So unless investigators G Force and Fingerling come up with anything, it looks like this case is remaining cold. Oh, speaking of which. Jello. Uh huh. Really? Hmm, that's very interesting. Okay, we'll be right there.
Thomas Fingerling
What is it, Mindy?
Mindy Thomas
That was investigators G Force and Fingerling. And they found something. And we're about to find out what it is. Hooray.
Dennis
The case is back on.
Mindy Thomas
Come on. Run, run, run, run, run.
Thomas Fingerling
So where are we now, Detective Mindy?
Dennis
Yeah, Detective Mindy, where are we now?
Mindy Thomas
We're at the museum. Inspectors G Force and Fingerling have found something here.
Thomas Fingerling
Really? This doesn't look like any museum I've seen before.
Mindy Thomas
Well, technically, we're underneath the museum that the public usually sees. We're in a place called the Archives.
Thomas Fingerling
The Archives?
Mindy Thomas
Yeah, this is where the museum keeps all the stuff it can't put on display.
Thomas Fingerling
Huh. And this is where GeForce and Fingerling wanted to meet us.
Mindy Thomas
Yeah, that's what they said.
Dennis
Well, where are they?
Mindy Thomas
Hmm.
Reggie
There y'all are. Hey, Fingerling, wake up. They're here.
Guy Raz
Boy, I wasn't sleeping.
Thomas Fingerling
Investigators G Force and Fingerling, Good to see you again.
Guy Raz
Yeah, I guess.
Reggie
Eh, took you long enough.
Mindy Thomas
So what have you got for us?
Guy Raz
Well, take a look here. G Force, help me dramatically pull this cloth off that. What's in here?
Reggie
Oh, ran off. All right, hold your horses.
Dennis
Oh, what is it?
Thomas Fingerling
Is that.
Guy Raz
Yep. It's the skeleton of another one of them swimming prehistoric reptiles.
Reggie
It's called an itchy lizard, Fingerling.
Guy Raz
Well, if you say so.
Thomas Fingerling
Okay, so you found another ichthyosaurus. What's the big deal?
Reggie
Well, big deal? Big deal number one is that it came from the same place as all them other bones you were looking at before.
Thomas Fingerling
Uh huh.
Mindy Thomas
And what's big deal number two?
Reggie
Well, why don't you get a closer look at that there skeleton's belly and you tell me.
Mindy Thomas
It's belly.
Reggie
That's what I said, didn't I?
Thomas Fingerling
Let me just see here. Whoa. Wait a minute. Detective Mindy, take a look at this.
Mindy Thomas
What is it, Detective Guy Raz?
Thomas Fingerling
Inside the belly of this ichthyosaur, does.
Mindy Thomas
That look like another smaller skeleton?
Thomas Fingerling
Yeah.
Mindy Thomas
What in the wow is going on here?
Guy Raz
Well, it's pretty obvious, isn't it?
Reggie
Uh, this. This creature was pregnant with another little baby of its own.
Mindy Thomas
Huh?
Thomas Fingerling
Detective Mindy. I've got it.
Dennis
Got what?
Thomas Fingerling
I've solved the mystery. I know why all of those bones were found in that one spot in the middle of the desert.
Mindy Thomas
You do?
Dennis
You do?
Thomas Fingerling
Yes.
Mindy Thomas
Well, what are you waiting for, Detective Guy Raz? Spit it out.
Thomas Fingerling
Birthing grounds.
Mindy Thomas
Birthing grounds.
Thomas Fingerling
Yes. We see, animals like whales do it all the time. They travel huge distances, often to somewhere where the water is shallow.
Mindy Thomas
Like it would have been in that canyon 230 million years ago.
Thomas Fingerling
Exactly. I think that these creatures travel to this place to give birth. And some of the creatures didn't survive. And then the rest of the pack swam back out to sea.
Mindy Thomas
And that would explain why just this one species of ichthyosaur was found in this one very specific area.
Dennis
Hmm. Very interesting.
Thomas Fingerling
So what do you think, Detective Mindy?
Mindy Thomas
Well, I think we might have just solved our mystery, Detective Guy Raz. These prehistoric aquatic reptiles must have swam to these shallow waters to give birth and then headed back out to sea, only to return the next year and.
Thomas Fingerling
The year after that, each year, leaving behind those that didn't make it.
Mindy Thomas
Consider this case cracked, Detective Guy Raz. Great work.
Dennis
Hooray. We did it. We did it. We did it. We did it. We did it. We did it.
Mindy Thomas
We did it.
Dennis
We did it.
Mindy Thomas
Over the minutes.
Dennis
What?
Reggie
One more thing.
Mindy Thomas
What is it, Investigator G Force.
Reggie
The museum boss wanted us to give you this.
Mindy Thomas
What is it?
Reggie
How am I supposed to know? It's in an envelope. What am I, X ray vision man or something?
Mindy Thomas
Good point. Opening the envelope, reading what's inside. Huh?
Thomas Fingerling
What does it say, Detective?
Dennis
Yeah, what does it say, Detective?
Mindy Thomas
It says here that there is a bigger mystery afoot here with the ichthyosaurs. Yeah?
Thomas Fingerling
Well, what is it?
Mindy Thomas
Apparently, this specific species went extinct tens of millions of before the dinosaurs on land did.
Thomas Fingerling
And nobody knows why.
Mindy Thomas
Nobody knows why.
Dennis
Oh, my.
Thomas Fingerling
Well, Detective, sounds like we just got our next case.
Mindy Thomas
It sure does, Detective Guy Raz. Who's with us?
Dennis
Oh, me.
Reggie
I'll think about it.
Guy Raz
I'm tired of playing mystery. I want to play mini golf and ride Go Karts Ooh, yeah.
Dennis
Now I want to do that.

As the team navigates the harsh Nevada landscape, Mindy accidentally trips over what appears to be a massive reptile bone. This startling discovery sparks the central mystery of the episode: identifying the origin and significance of these prehistoric remains.
Notable Quotes:
Timestamp: [06:12]
The team adopts detective personas, with Mindy as Detective Mindy and Guy as Detective Guy Raz. They gather insights from their junior detective, Dennis, and colleague Reggie, who provide critical information about the ichthyosaurs—the mysterious aquatic reptiles found in the desert.
Notable Quotes:
Timestamp: [11:16] – [14:30]
Detective Mindy presents several theories to explain the presence of ichthyosaur bones in Nevada:
Theory 1: Mass Stranding Event
Theory 2: Poisoned Environment
Theory 3: Nothing
Notable Quotes:
Timestamp: [15:14] – [19:43]
The investigation takes a pivotal turn when the team visits the museum's Archives, where additional ichthyosaur skeletons are discovered. A critical observation reveals that one skeleton contains a smaller skeleton inside its belly, suggesting these creatures engaged in birthing practices similar to modern marine animals like whales.
Notable Quotes:
Timestamp: [18:10] – [19:43]
Dennis unveils the solution: the ichthyosaurs used the shallow waters of West Union Canyon as birthing grounds. This explains the concentration of ichthyosaur bones in the desert, as these areas served as safe havens for giving birth before the adults returned to deeper waters. The team celebrates their discovery, but a mysterious envelope hints at a larger, unresolved mystery regarding the extinction of this ichthyosaur species.
Notable Quotes:
