We fish on the weekend we wow on the weak fish Fish week on the weak fish. Cause this is how we fish on the weekend. Catfish, mackerel mein veggie sea bass mackerel white no I Said mackerel twice. Whatever. We fish on the weak Fish.
Reggie
Yeah.
Dennis
Fish wow on the fish. Fish. Paw paw fish. Fish on the fish end. Cause this is how we fish on the fish.
Reggie
Fish.
Dennis
Hello and welcome to Wee Wow on the Weekend. I'm your host, Dennis, and this is my co host, Reggie the giant fish. I know you're not a giant fish fish, Reggie. This is just for the fish theme, okay? This is the show where we hang out in my mother's basement, chit chat and listen to episodes of my favorite tinkercast podcasts. And this weekend, we're listening to a two parter about fish and eating fish and being swallowed by fish. That's right, Reggie. It's a fishy weekend. So, Reggie, if you were a fish, what kind of fish would you be? A parrot fish. What? Well, why wouldn't you want to be a pigeon fish? Oh, there's no such thing as a pigeon fish. Well, there should be. Everything else gets to be fish. Cats, gold and stars. Okay, so what does a parrot fish look like?
Reggie
Whoa.
Dennis
It's so colorful, like a parrot. Okay, now what fish would I be? Well, is there a fish that's super cool and talented and has a podcast? A clown fish, Reggie? No, I don't want to be a clown fish. I want to be a Dennis fish.
Reggie
Yay.
Dennis
Dennis fish. Dennis fish. Dennis fish. Yeah. Okay, let's get to our first segment, Dishing it Up with Dennis. Ahem. Dish it up on a dish. Anything that you wish. Take a bite. That's delish. Dishing it up with Dennis and Reggie. Today on Dishing it up with Dennis, we're making a fish cake. No, not the fish cakes you put in soup. I don't know how to make those. I'm talking about a three layer birthday cake made out of fish. Okay, I've got my cake pan here. And for the first layer, let's do some tuna fish. Just gonna open this up. Oh, that smells fishy. Trust the process, Reggie. Okay, now a layer of fr. And by frosting, I mean mayonnaise. And we'll just slather a nice even layer on there. There we go. Next up is some leftover shrimp scampi. What do you mean? Shrimp isn't a fish, Reggie, if it lives in the ocean, it's a fish crustacean. Then whatever. Sheesh. Don't be so technical. Now more mayo frosting. That looks good. And for the top layer, sushi I got from a gas station. Beautiful. Now let's just. What's that sound? Ah, Mindy's Sleigh cats. No. Debbie. Donna.
Reggie
Pam.
Dennis
Ms. Dixon. How'd you even get in here? No, no, no, no, no, no, no. Get away from my cat. Give it back.
Guy Raz
Give it back.
Dennis
Reggie, stop them. Well, let's move on. Next is a little segment I like to call Inside Tinkercast Studios.
Movie Advertiser
Ahem.
Dennis
Inside Tinkercast Studios. This is the part where we revisit an episode of one of my favorite Tinkercast shows. And today we're listening to wow in the World, season two, episode 23 called Something Smells Fishy in Here, part two. In part one of this special two part episode, Guy Raz has a cooking show on the Neanderthal Network, which leads to a conversation on how fish is good for intelligence and sleep. Which reminds me, Reggie, do you have a subscription to the Neanderthal Network? Can I have your login? No. Reggie. Oh, whatever. Mindy and Guy then jump on Reggie the Giant password hogging pigeon and fly to a mysterious location. And now prepare yourselves for the stunning conclusion of Something Smells Fishy in Here. Okay, here we go. And Play Wee.
Reggie
Wow.
Mindy Thomas
Will be right back. Grown Ups, this message is for you.
Guy Raz
Hey, Wowzer fams. It's Guy Raz and Mindy here. And Mindy, can you believe we have our very own wow in the World stem toys?

Reggie
Wow in the World.
Dennis
Previously on wow in the World.
Mindy Thomas
Zoodle, what exactly are omega 3s?
Guy Raz
Mindy and Guy Raz discovered just how.
Dennis
Powerful omega 3s in fish are.
Mindy Thomas
Guy Raz, are you sleep talking?
Guy Raz
Yes, Professor. If we subtract the square root of.
Mindy Thomas
How do fish make omega 3 polyunsaturated fatty acids anyway?
Guy Raz
You know, I'm not entirely sure, but I bet we could find out. And now we join Mindy and Guy.
Dennis
Raz as they prepare for their adventure. Into the belly of a fish.
Mindy Thomas
Inside the belly of a fish. What no way. Yes way. Reggie.
Reggie
Reggie.
Guy Raz
Mindy, I thought you said Reggie was here in the garage.
Mindy Thomas
Hmm. Well, he did say he was going out for tacos, but I thought he'd be back by now. Oh, wait, I think he's back. Reggie. Aw, Reg, you brought tacos for all of us.
Guy Raz
And, Mindy, not just any tacos. Reggie brought us fish tacos.
Mindy Thomas
Fish tacos. You know what that means, Guy Raz?
Guy Raz
I think I do. And a one, and a two and a. It's raining fish tacos from out in the sky.
Mindy Thomas
Fish tacos.
Guy Raz
No need to ask why. Just open your mouth and close your eyes. It's raining fish tacos.
Mindy Thomas
You like that, Reg?
Guy Raz
And the best thing about these fish tacos are the actual fish.
Mindy Thomas
Mmm. Is that salmon I smell or just my fish scented deodorant?
Guy Raz
Hey, Reg, did you get these at Jorge's? Loco tacos? Well, if they're from Jorge's, then this salmon is wild and sustainably fished from the cold waters of Alaska.
Mindy Thomas
Sustainably fished. You know what that means, Guy Raz?
Guy Raz
It's raining sustainably fish tacos, Guy Raz. Sustainably fish tacos.
Mindy Thomas
No, no, it doesn't mean that. It actually means that the fish in these tacos aren't overfished. That's all it means.
Guy Raz
Ah, yes, because too many fish around the world, like cod and halibut and tuna, are overfished. And when too many fish are caught by fishing boats, it means there aren't enough fish left in the oceans.
Mindy Thomas
And then it becomes harder for them, those fish left in the oceans, to make more fish.
Guy Raz
Which means that if we don't stop overfishing in our oceans, we may not have any more fish at all one day.
Mindy Thomas
Which means no more fish tacos.
Guy Raz
Imagine a world without fish tacos.
Mindy Thomas
I can't even.
Guy Raz
But there are ways that we can help Mindy.
Mindy Thomas
Guy Raz. I will literally do anything to help save the fish tacos.
Guy Raz
Well, for starters, one way is by being really careful with the kind of fish you eat. So, for example, sardines and anchovies and mackerel are all great choices because they're not as overfished as other species of fish.
Mindy Thomas
So I guess we should all learn about what kinds of fish are sustainable.
Guy Raz
Exactly. Which is why wild Alaskan salmon is a good option. Because back in 1973, the state of Alaska created a special law that protects the salmon from too many fishing boats. And plus, Alaska protects the places where the salmon swim and lay their eggs. And all of this is what allows the salmon to Grow and thrive.
Mindy Thomas
So that's why Alaskan salmon is sustainable.
Guy Raz
Exact oritos.
Mindy Thomas
Hey, that's my. Not a word.
Guy Raz
Oh, sorry.
Mindy Thomas
Anywho, enough with the talking about salmon. Let's eat some salmon fish tacos.
Guy Raz
I'm ready. Let me just place this cloth napkin on my lap. And here is my finest porcelain plate. And my polished silverware is all laid out on the table here. I've got my lyggy old knife and.
Mindy Thomas
All right, Guy Raz. Yes, we are eating fish tacos.
Dennis
I know.
Guy Raz
I'm so excited.
Mindy Thomas
Who eats fish tacos with cloth napkins and polished silverware?
Guy Raz
Doesn't everybody?
Mindy Thomas
No, little buddy, they don't. Here, let me show you the proper way to eat a fish taco.
Guy Raz
Okay, well, you know me, Mindy. I'm always up for learning new things.
Mindy Thomas
So first, you grab one of these little tacos and you hold it from the bottom like a baby. Okay?
Guy Raz
Like. Like this. You mean with my hands?
Mindy Thomas
No, with your feet. Yes, of course your hands.
Guy Raz
Okay, and what's next?
Mindy Thomas
Well, then you just move this little taco baby towards your open mouth.
Guy Raz
O. Are you sure about this?
Mindy Thomas
Yes, of course. I'm not sure about this, Guy Raz. Oh, okay, now, just as you open your jaws, I want you to close your eyes. And then. Mmm. And there you have it, folks. I'll look at a fish platter.
Guy Raz
Okay, but your face is a mess.
Mindy Thomas
Garage, we'll place it. My face was a mess long before the fish taco came waltzing along. Anywho, that's the whole point of eating fish tacos, Guy Raz. If we want to find out how fish produce omega 3s and how those omega 3s are turned into fish oil, we gotta gobble up these tacos fast.
Guy Raz
Well, what's the rush?
Mindy Thomas
Well, if Reggie's gonna fly us down to the Southern Pacific Ocean to find some fish, we've only got a small window of time before he has to get to his medieval jousting class.
Guy Raz
Wait, Reggie's learning mediev Jousting?
Mindy Thomas
Just eat your fish taco, Guy Raz.
Guy Raz
Uh, okay. Well, then, here goes nothing.
Reggie
Okay, little buddy, come on. Come on, Guy Raz. You can do it.
Mindy Thomas
Only a dozen more to go. Just eat those little taco babies. You got it.
Reggie
Come on. Woo. Yay, Guy Raz, you did it. Yay. So what did you think?
Guy Raz
You're right, Mindy. It's so much easier to eat a taco with your hands. I'm never going back to a fork and knife again.
Mindy Thomas
I know, right? Once you get Used to eating tacos with your hands. You can eat pretty much anything with your hands. Ice cream, cereal, soup.
Guy Raz
I don't know if.
Mindy Thomas
Anywho, you ready to go?
Guy Raz
I think.
Mindy Thomas
Hey, Reg, you ready? All right. Saddle up, partner. Cause next stop, the Pacific Ocean, right off the coast of Peru.
Guy Raz
Peru? Why Peru?
Mindy Thomas
Well, all that fish taco talk got me in the mood for some Peruvian chicken. But the other reason why is that Peru is where you can find lot lots and lots of fish oil factories.
Guy Raz
Wow. How come?
Mindy Thomas
Well, a lot of the fish oil that ends up in our fish oil capsules and tablets comes from smaller fish like sardines and anchovies and even mackerel. And while those fish can be found all around the world, a lot of them really love swimming in the Pacific Ocean near Peru.
Guy Raz
Okay then. Well, I guess it's time to say aqui.
Mindy Thomas
Oh, I see what you just did there. Okay, you ready?
Guy Raz
Ready.
Mindy Thomas
Akimos.
Guy Raz
Reggie, according to my cartographical map, we should be here. Let's glide down Shedley and find a spot, too. Reggie, when I said water landing, I. I was thinking we'd stay dry. I soaked.
Mindy Thomas
Oh, don't worry about that, Guy Raz. Because I brought this.
Guy Raz
Maybe you brought a giant turbine with you.
Mindy Thomas
Yeah, never leave home without it. Here, let me just turn this puppy on.
Guy Raz
Okay, Mindy, I think it's.
Mindy Thomas
That's good.
Guy Raz
You can turn it off now.
Reggie
What? Guy, run. I can't hear you.
Mindy Thomas
Because I'm drying you off with my wind turbine.
Guy Raz
Yes, I know. That's what I'm trying to tell you. Please turn it off.
Mindy Thomas
Turn it up.
Reggie
Okay.
Mindy Thomas
Sorry, I'm having a little trouble hearing you, Guyron.
Reggie
Oh, that thing. Hang on a second, man.
Mindy Thomas
You don't have to raise your voice, Guy Raz. So here we are, floating in the Pacific Ocean, just off the coast of Peru. So, is our plan still on?
Guy Raz
Well, if we really want to learn about how fish produce omega 3s and then how fish oil is produced from those same fish, we gotta go into the belly of the beast.
Mindy Thomas
Literally.
Guy Raz
And to do that, there's only one option.
Mindy Thomas
Shrink ourselves down small enough to be swallowed by a sardine.
Guy Raz
So, did you bring your shrink wand?
Mindy Thomas
Oh, you know I did. All right, let me just see here. Nope, no, that's my anvil.
Reggie
Ah, more rats.
Mindy Thomas
Aw, my tuba. I was wondering where that was. Let me see here. Nope, it's my old cell phone from 2002. Oh, here it is. The shrink wand. Wait, disguised as a turkey baster.
Guy Raz
And just to be sure, we don't drive each other. Bonker balls. I brought the voice unshrinker.
Mindy Thomas
Good plan. So, you ready?
Guy Raz
I think so.
Mindy Thomas
All right. And a one, and a two, and a.
Guy Raz
It's raining fish time.
Mindy Thomas
Nope. Alecaboochie caliber Schnoz. Use this ray to shrink Guy Raz.
Reggie
Mindy.
Mindy Thomas
Whoops. Forgot to shrink myself. Um. Alakabindi Oompa Luscindy. Use this ray to shrink Mindy.
Reggie
Mandy. Over here. Guy Raz. I'm at the path of Reggie near his hair feathers.
Mindy Thomas
Okay, I'm heading over there. Just sing a little bit so I can follow your voice to where you are. Okay.
Reggie
Here goes nothing. Oo ee oo ah ah Ting tang walla walla goo bang. Hey, Mindy. Okay, you can stop now.
Mindy Thomas
I found you.
Reggie
Oh, hey, Guy Raz.
Mindy Thomas
Did you like my song? I loved it. But can I unshrink our voices? No.
Reggie
Mandy. Just kidding.
Guy Raz
Much better.
Dennis
Yes, much better.
Guy Raz
Oops. I might have set the dial a little too much to the giant voice setting. Hang on, let me make some adjustments here. Strange, because it only seemed to affect your voice. And back to normal.
Mindy Thomas
Whatever that means. At least our voices are back to normal. The rest of our bodies are still shrunken down and micro sized and ready to get swallowed up by a sardine.
Guy Raz
The only problem we didn't anticipate, Mindy, is how are we gonna survive once we're inside the sardine?
Mindy Thomas
Ah, so glad you asked, little buddy. Because me and Reg have working on a secret project and it's time to unveil this beaut right here, right now.
Guy Raz
A secret project?
Mindy Thomas
Yep. Ever since you suggested that we go to a fish to find the source of its powerful Omega 3 packed oil, we thought we would design a special pod to travel in style.
Guy Raz
A pod?
Mindy Thomas
Yep. Reggie's been hiding it like an egg under his belly. Hey, Reg. Time for you to lay that egg.
Reggie
Whoa.
Guy Raz
Whoa.
Mindy Thomas
Pretty impressive, huh?
Guy Raz
Wow. Mindy.
Mindy Thomas
Here, come inside, I'll show you.
Guy Raz
Wow. Look at all these buttons. And a 360 degree view of the ocean.
Mindy Thomas
I designed it in the shape of a sphere specifically to allow us to get a view from any direction.
Guy Raz
You mean a perfect ball shape?
Mindy Thomas
You know it, Guy Raz. And from inside this sealed aquatic rover, we will be able to explore the deepest depths of any sea creature we want.
Guy Raz
I love it.
Mindy Thomas
This baby packs a super hyperdrive hydrogen cell engine that can go from 0 to 60 in under 2.5 seconds.
Guy Raz
Whoa.
Mindy Thomas
Plus Plus plus it has state of the art air filtration unit, a self driving option an all digital color display. And the best part, the best part, it has a push button instant pancake maker.
Guy Raz
Wow, you designed a push button pancake maker for this thing?
Mindy Thomas
No, that I borrowed from a Holiday Inn Express.
Guy Raz
Well, I guess it's time for us to test this deep water orb out. All we need to do now is just go underwater and find a sardine to swallow us.
Mindy Thomas
All right.
Guy Raz
Uh, Mindy, what are you doing? And why does it smell so fishy all of a sudden?
Mindy Thomas
Oh, I'm just spritzing a little room spray that I made out of plankton and microalgae.
Guy Raz
But now our whole pod stinks like. Well, like stinky fish.
Mindy Thomas
That's kind of the idea, Guy Raz. So sardines eat plankton, which are these microscopic shrimp like creatures, and they also eat microalgae, which is a kind of sea vegetable. So I figured if our pod smells like these two things, better chance we'll be swallowed.
Guy Raz
Good thinking.
Mindy Thomas
Yeah. So you ready to dive this pod down into the ocean?
Guy Raz
Let's get.
Mindy Thomas
That's how you do it. Kairaz. Kairazi. Alright, little buddy.
Guy Raz
I think so. Where are we?
Mindy Thomas
Oh, I'd estimate at this point probably 20,000 leagues under the sea. Huh, we're deep enough now. I'm hoping we can find some schools of fish down here.
Guy Raz
I hope they're good students.
Mindy Thomas
Is that a joke, Guy Raz?
Guy Raz
Yeah, get it. Schools of fish. Studying hard.
Mindy Thomas
Yep, I got it. Anywho, Guy Raz, what we're looking for down here is a sardine. So if you see one swimming around. Oh wait, check it out. Two o'clock.
Guy Raz
Oh, there. Yes, I see them. Mindy, I believe we are approaching a school of sardines. And I'm hoping that right about now one of these fishies smells lunch.
Mindy Thomas
Or rather my professor proprietary parfum de plankton algae spray.
Guy Raz
Hey, by the way, why do you have this giant countdown clock ticking the seconds away?
Mindy Thomas
Oh, that's to remind us that we've got a limited amount of minutes before we gotta get back so Reggie can make his jousting class on time.
Guy Raz
Oh, right. Got it. It appears as if we're swimming right into this school of.
Mindy Thomas
Ah, Guy Raz, I think one of the sardines is starting to suck us in. Hold on tight. Might get a little bumpy.
Reggie
This is awesome sardines.
Mindy Thomas
Guy Raz. Guy Raz. Mindy, I think we made it.
Guy Raz
Where are we?
Mindy Thomas
Well, if my calculations are correct, we're somewhere inside this sardine's stomach. And look what's Floating all around us.
Guy Raz
Whoa. Is that what I think it is?
Mindy Thomas
Well, if what you're thinking is fish food, then that's exactly what you're looking at.
Guy Raz
Plankton and microalgae. The very foods that fish like sardines eat.
Mindy Thomas
And the kinds of foods that sardines convert into super healthy omega 3s.
Guy Raz
The same omega 3s that may be connected to why those kids in China who ate fish at least once a week seem to do better on tests at school.
Mindy Thomas
Yeah, those are the ones.
Guy Raz
But now, of course, we need to get this sardine to a fish oil factory to find out exactly how the omega 3 fish oil is squeezed out of them.
Mindy Thomas
Well, Guy Raz, I think our plans are about to get real. Because if that sounds the sound I think it is, then we're about to get fished by a big old fishing boat.
Guy Raz
Yeah, it feels like we're about to get scooped up.
Dennis
Hoist those nets, lads.
Mindy Thomas
Ah, looks good. Spin them over and release.
Guy Raz
Ah, you done good, lads.
Dennis
Quit talking like that. You're not Irish or Scottish.
Guy Raz
No, I know. Glad you put in those seatbelts.
Mindy Thomas
They're almost as important as that push button pancake maker I installed. Which, by the way, I can kind of go for one right now. You?
Guy Raz
No thanks.
Mindy Thomas
Suit yourself.
Guy Raz
Mindy, this is no time for pancakes. We need to figure out whether we're gonna be safe inside this sardine once it gets to the fish oil factory.
Mindy Thomas
Well, then I guess it's a good thing I brought my pocket guidebook to how fish oil is made.
Guy Raz
You have a pocket guidebook to how fish oil is made?
Mindy Thomas
Oh, yeah, I never leave home without it.
Guy Raz
And your wind turbine. And your tuba. And your anvil.
Mindy Thomas
And don't forget your cat, Alice.
Guy Raz
You brought Alice with you?
Reggie
Surprise.
Mindy Thomas
She's an adventure cat, like me. Right, Alice? See how happy she is to be here? Oh, hey, check this out.
Guy Raz
What?
Mindy Thomas
Here in my pocket. Guidebook to how fish oil is made. Read here on page one.
Guy Raz
Let's see here, step one. Raw fish enters the process his chopped up into pieces, cooked using steam. Mindy, we're gonna die.
Mindy Thomas
Hold yourself together, man.
Reggie
We're gonna be chopped up in season.
Mindy Thomas
Guy Raz, look at me. Look at me in the eyes. It's going to be okay. Okay?
Guy Raz
Okay. How's is it gonna be okay?
Mindy Thomas
Because your best friend, AKA me, AKA Mindy, AKA the Minster, AKA Minditty, has equipped this underwater pod with a special hardened reinforced titanium and diamond dust coating.
Guy Raz
Which means what?
Mindy Thomas
Which means this little tin can is so strong that nothing can chop us or steam us or even crush us.
Guy Raz
Oh, well, that's the second best piece of news I've heard all day.
Mindy Thomas
Oh, well, what was the first?
Guy Raz
When I found out that Uranus actually smells like rotten eggs.
Mindy Thomas
Well, I mean, it is a gas giant, so.
Guy Raz
Yeah, it turns out that Uranus clouds are made of hydrogen sulfide, which is the same molecule that gives rotten eggs their sulfurous smell.
Mindy Thomas
Guy Raz, we're about to be dumped off this boat and thrown into a fish oil factory. And this is what's on your mind?
Guy Raz
Uh, yeah.
Mindy Thomas
Oh, boy. Guy Raz, do you hear that?
Guy Raz
By the sounds of it, Mindy, I think we've reached the port.
Mindy Thomas
Oh, yeah, I think you're right. And that can only mean one thing.
Guy Raz
His it's raining fish tacos.
Reggie
No.
Mindy Thomas
No.
Guy Raz
Oh, sorry.
Mindy Thomas
Okay, now if my little guidebook here is correct, then after we enter the processing plant, well, let's just say that these little sardines, including the one that we're in right now, are sentenced to be chopped and sliced. So hold on tight.
Guy Raz
I think we're about to go.
Reggie
Hey, Raz, you see that? It's working.
Mindy Thomas
My protective shield is keeping us safe.
Guy Raz
Now it sounds like we're about to go through the steamer.
Mindy Thomas
Uh, yeah, I think you're right. And according to my guidebook here, this little sardine we're inside is about to have the oil squeezed out of it. So get ready for pressing.
Guy Raz
I think we're about to go down this pipe over here with all the oil. Mindy.
Mindy Thomas
This is the craziest adventure we've ever been on.
Reggie
Guy Raz.
Guy Raz
And look, now the oil seems to be separating from the water.
Mindy Thomas
Oh, yeah, that's supposed to happen. It's because the oil is heavier than the water.
Guy Raz
Okay, I think we're on the final stages now. I think we're about to.
Mindy Thomas
Here it comes. The final step to take this liquid fish oil to tiny little capsules. What was that? Do you think it happened?
Guy Raz
Yeah, I think we're inside a capsule. I think we've been turned into a fish oil tablet.
Mindy Thomas
Oh, man.
Guy Raz
Yeah, I wonder if we're gonna be sold at a store.
Mindy Thomas
You think? Hang on, let me peek through the window.
Guy Raz
What do you see out there?
Mindy Thomas
Well, it looks like we're just surrounded by a bunch of caramel colored fish oil tablets.
Guy Raz
Where do you think we're headed?
Mindy Thomas
I don't know. Probably the gift shop.
Guy Raz
Oh, man, I hope someone buys our bottle soon so we can get back to Reggie in time.
Mindy Thomas
Oish, you hear that? Is that Reggie. Oh, please, Reggie. Please buy us. Reggie, please hear us.
Reggie
Please buy us.
Mindy Thomas
Buy our bottle of fish oil.
Guy Raz
Mandy. I think he's buying our bottle.
Mindy Thomas
Garag. He's opening us up. Uh oh. It looks like he's about to grab two tablets with his beak. Guy Raz.
Reggie
Wait, wait, don't swallow.
Mindy Thomas
Yeah. Guy Raz. Mindy, um, I think we might be inside Reggie's belly.
Guy Raz
What are we gonna do? I mean, we can't wait until Reggie, you know.
Mindy Thomas
You know what?
Guy Raz
Well, we can't wait until he.
Mindy Thomas
Until he what?
Guy Raz
Well, we can't wait until he.
Mindy Thomas
Until he what? Just say it. Guy Raz.
Guy Raz
Until he poops us out.
Mindy Thomas
Okay, stay calm. I've got a plan.
Guy Raz
What are we gonna do?
Mindy Thomas
Um, here, let me take the controls.
Guy Raz
Controls?
Mindy Thomas
Yeah, I built some seriously powerful reverse thrusters in this pod. And once I fire these babies up, we'll shoot right up Reggie's tummy, through his throat and out of his mouth.
Guy Raz
You can. You can make Reggie barf us out.
Mindy Thomas
Mm. Yeah, we'll be bird barf.
Guy Raz
Are you sure this is gonna work?
Mindy Thomas
Yes, of course. I'm not sure this is going to work. Guy Raz, you ready?
Guy Raz
Do we have a choice?
Mindy Thomas
Reverse thrusters activate.
Reggie
And.
Guy Raz
Oh, no.
Reggie
Fire.
Mindy Thomas
Guy Raz.
Guy Raz
Yes?
Mindy Thomas
You okay?
Guy Raz
I think so.
Mindy Thomas
Okay, let me unshrink us so that Reggie knows we're here. Alicabuchi calibatates. Make this reverse shrink wand activate.
Guy Raz
Ah, much better.
Mindy Thomas
I can't believe we were just barfed up by a bird. Guy Raz. Hey, Reg, how you feeling?
Guy Raz
Yeah, I thought that fish oil would do the trick.
Mindy Thomas
Ready to fly back for your jousting class? All right, Guy Raz, saddle up, because here we.

Wow in the World Episode: WeWow on the Weekend (April 13, 2025)
Hosts: Mindy Thomas and Guy Raz
Produced by: Tinkercast | Wondery
The episode of Wow in the World titled "WeWow on the Weekend" seamlessly blends educational content with engaging storytelling, all while maintaining its signature playful tone. Hosted by Mindy Thomas and Guy Raz, the show delves into the fascinating world of omega-3 fatty acids, their production in marine life, and the critical importance of sustainable fishing practices.
The episode kicks off with Mindy Thomas sharing exciting news about the upcoming live Bonkerballs competition game show in Seattle. This event invites kids to showcase their wildest and most innovative ideas by turning them into jaw-dropping inventions on stage. Mindy enthusiastically states,
“It's time to make It Wow. [...] kids turn their wildest and weirdest ideas into jaw-dropping inventions live on stage.” ([00:00])
Before diving into the main scientific discussion, the episode features a humorous interlude titled "Wee Wow on the Weekend," hosted by Dennis and his co-host, Reggie the Giant Fish. This segment serves as a light-hearted break, filled with playful banter and quirky activities.
Fish-Themed Antics: Dennis and Reggie engage in creating a bizarre "three-layer fish birthday cake," blending humor with the fish theme. Dennis humorously narrates the process:
“Next up is some leftover shrimp scampi. What do you mean? Shrimp isn't a fish, Reggie...” ([04:36])
Revisiting Wow in the World Episodes: They also reminisce about past episodes of Wow in the World, with Dennis highlighting a two-part episode about fish:
“In part one of this special two-part episode, Guy Raz has a cooking show on the Neanderthal Network, which leads to a conversation on how fish is good for intelligence and sleep.” ([06:33])
This segment not only entertains but also subtly reinforces the educational themes of the main show.
Returning to the core content, Mindy and Guy delve into the science of omega-3 fatty acids—essential nutrients found in fish that are crucial for brain health and cognitive function.
Understanding Omega-3s: Mindy prompts the discussion by asking:
“Zoodle, what exactly are omega 3s?” ([08:46])
Guy Raz responds with detailed insights:
“Fish produce omega 3s through the consumption of plankton and microalgae, which are then converted into fish oil.” ([09:05])
Sustainable Fishing Practices: A significant portion of the episode emphasizes the importance of sustainable fishing to prevent overfishing and maintain healthy marine ecosystems.
Mindy explains:
“So that's why Alaskan salmon is sustainable.” ([12:30])
Guy adds a critical warning:
“If we don't stop overfishing in our oceans, we may not have any more fish at all one day.” ([11:15])
These discussions highlight the delicate balance required to ensure that fish populations remain robust and ecosystems thrive.
To illustrate the process of fish oil extraction and its significance, Mindy and Guy embark on a creative and imaginative adventure inside a sardine.
Miniaturization and Exploration: Using a "shrink wand," they shrink themselves to explore the interior of a sardine’s stomach, providing listeners with an immersive experience of the fish oil production process.
Mindy narrates:
“Inside the belly of a fish. What? No way. Yes way.” ([09:17])
Observing Omega-3 Production: As they navigate through the sardine, they observe how plankton and microalgae are converted into omega-3 fatty acids:
“These are the microalgae, which is a kind of sea vegetable. So, sardines convert these into super healthy omega 3s.” ([25:21])
Challenges Faced: Their adventure takes a dramatic turn as they face the looming threat of being processed into fish oil capsules. Mindy reassures Guy:
“It's going to be okay.” ([28:10])
Ingenious Escape: Using reverse thrusters in their specially designed pod, Mindy and Guy manage to escape just in time, highlighting themes of innovation and problem-solving:
“And all we have to do is just go underwater and find a sardine to swallow us.” ([22:29])
“Reverse thrusters activate.” ([33:01])
Importance of Omega-3s: Omega-3 fatty acids are essential for brain health, impacting cognitive functions and academic performance in children.
Sustainable Fishing: Maintaining sustainable fishing practices is crucial to prevent overfishing, ensuring that fish populations remain healthy and marine ecosystems are preserved for future generations.
Innovation and Problem-Solving: The creative escape from the fish oil factory serves as a metaphor for overcoming challenges through ingenuity and teamwork.
Mindy Thomas:
“So that's why Alaskan salmon is sustainable.” ([12:30])
Guy Raz:
“Imagine a world without fish tacos.” ([11:01])
“If we don't stop overfishing in our oceans, we may not have any more fish at all one day.” ([11:15])
Dennis:
“We fish on the weekend, we wow on the weak fish.” ([02:43])
The "WeWow on the Weekend" episode of Wow in the World masterfully combines humor, adventure, and science to educate listeners about the vital role of omega-3 fatty acids and the importance of sustainable fishing practices. By embedding scientific discussions within an imaginative narrative, Mindy Thomas and Guy Raz create an engaging and informative experience that resonates with both kids and their grown-up companions.
Listeners are left with a deeper understanding of marine biology, the environmental impact of human activities on ocean ecosystems, and the significance of maintaining sustainable practices to ensure the availability of essential nutrients like omega-3s for future generations.
