Ryan
Workplace question. How do I politely tell a co worker who is trying to do stuff outside of work to f off.
Adam
I'm gonna assume this is strictly platonic. Where are you going?
Ryan
He's got isis knee. He's got a pee.
Adam
He's limping bad by the way.
Chris
He's always running. He's fine. He can play.
Adam
I'm gonna assume this is strictly. That would be funny. He turns the corner, forgets there's a window there. Yes. Is like he's just fine. He did.
Chris
He took off the corner.
Ryan
He had a little limp.
Adam
This is a strictly platonic relationship, I'm guessing.
Ryan
Yeah. Sounds like.
Adam
Cuz doing stuff outside of work could be like hand stuff, you know. But I'm going to guess it's he.
Chris
Only wants to do hand stuff at work. No. No hand stuff. No.
Adam
Outside of work.
Chris
Yeah. He doesn't want to do. He only wants to do it at work, not outside.
Adam
Yeah.
Ryan
Keep work at work.
Adam
Yeah. You got to feel the situation out. Cuz there's a certain type of person that no matter what excuse you come up with, like they'll always ask, you know, because you have, you have some friends that you invite him to enough stuff. Eventually you're like, why do. Let's just not even invite him. He's not going to show up anyways. And you just, you just don't ask.
Chris
Him to do get taken off the roster.
Adam
This guy feels like he's gonna keep him on the roster at all times. I think you gotta weigh it out. Right. So I think we've had a similar question like this before and I think some of my advice was go hang out with them and be such a terrible time.
Chris
Yeah.
Adam
That you don't get asked again. So that's one option. I think another option is, is you really got to go. All right. If I just tell him, no, I don't want to hang out and you take that off the chin. Right. It's going to be absolute three minutes of just sheer uncomfortableness. Is that worth not getting asked again? Can I endure three minutes of pain?
Chris
But it's three minutes of pain every time you see them from there on out.
Adam
But you could say it in a way that it doesn't linger.
Derek
You can still be cordial too.
Ryan
Yeah.
Derek
It's not like you have to quit saying hi.
Adam
But what's kind of funny, you, you, he's, he's being nice to you. You're annoyed about it. So then you eventually go like you put your foot down. Like dude, I, I just don't really want to hang out. And then it flips because then after that, every time at work you are trying to be nice to him.
Ryan
Yeah.
Adam
While he's being annoyed of you.
Ryan
He's got leverage. Almost.
Adam
Yeah. So it actually is kind of a win win for you. Now not only do you not have to hang out with this guy, you now get to annoy this guy who's annoyed you for.
Ryan
So you feel bad. You can ask him to hang out.
Chris
With you and he'll say no. And then it's a cycle.
Adam
No. Then when he says no, you're like, we're even.
Ryan
Yep.
Adam
Can we start over?
Ryan
Deal done.
Adam
And like pull out a contract. Like, neither of us will ask each other to hang out ever. Both sign it. Be good.
Derek
Yeah. Or just tell them your wife won't let you be. Like, my wife's. My wife knows a little bit about you and she isn't a huge fan and she won't let me.
Ryan
Total.
Adam
Yeah. Just talk shit about your wife.
Ryan
Yeah.
Derek
Just throw the blame on her. Throwback on someone else if you like. If you do not want to say no.
Ryan
Yeah.
Adam
That's actually maybe a good product we could put out as a company is just excuses book. And we can have expansion packs because eventually people are going to run out of them. Right. Like let's say we come up with a thousand excuses and put them on a little flip book. Kind of like the flip book for Christmas. For Christmas. Responses to getting gifts. Just excuses for not wanting to hang out.
Derek
Yeah.
Adam
And you just flip through them and like, okay, you've done a thousand of them. You buy the. You betcha expansion pack and you could even buy them with themes. You know, if it's like he keeps asking you to go to trivia night, we'd have a whole trivia themed excuses.
Ryan
I've never seen Harry Potter before.
Adam
I've never seen Harry Potter.
Chris
That's a really good one for Harry Potter trivia.
Adam
It is. Yeah. I've never seen the lady in the Tramp.
Ryan
You know, it's like 50 of them right there. Yeah.
Adam
It's like just every Disney movie. I've never seen Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. So kind of a hole in my Harry Potter game.
Ryan
See the rest of them, but I.
Adam
See the rest of them. They're good. But I just never got around to number five. Didn't make the Goblet of Fire. I'm not a big goblet guy, you.
Derek
Know, I've only seen the first 10 seasons of Grey's Anatomy, so I'M not super touched up on the last people.
Chris
That would actually be fucked with like 40 seasons.
Adam
I'm actually kind of a Gray Anatomy purist and I think these late seasons are kind of bullshit. So. Yeah, I just, I'm kind of not that useful. I'm mostly dead weight, you know? These are the type of excuses you're going to get from the you bet you excuse book. Yeah. And you can buy it at. Oh, you betcha.com. you have two days to get that on the website, Ryan. Yeah.
Derek
Okay. Digital copies coming your way.
Adam
PDFs made by chat, GPT coming your way.
Ryan
And audiobooks that won't be that hard.
Adam
We kind of have a fun brainstorm session. Yeah, guys, we've done all these excuses before. Come on, let's come up with something good. We've done diarrhea, We've done. I don't know them.
Chris
I'm tired. I can't think of anymore.
Adam
Right. Put that down.
Ryan
Enough excuses out of you.
Derek
Wait, we've done all these excuses? Yeah, I've already been to Gray's Anatomy trivia. I don't need to go a second time.
Ryan
Yeah, that's the sequel.
Adam
Yeah. I got rid of Hulu or whatever it's called.
Derek
Yeah.
Adam
So, yeah, get yourself. You bet you excuse book.
Chris
You have no excuse.
Adam
You have no excuse. Yeah, they're going to respond, be like, oh, you know, I, I, I don't have any cash on me right now. Great excuse. They're gonna give excuses to us on why not to buy excuse book.
Derek
Yeah, that's good, guys.
