Members Reviews: Above average character development in a shoot 'em up Keep an eye on Nate Johnson. He is walking paths tread before by David Drake, Gordon Dickson and Robert Heinlein, telling stories of future wars and the men who will fight them, and he is doing it well. His aliens feel alien. His principal characters are fleshed out. Well done! Best read of my year This is the most refreshing read I've had in a long time. You love the characters, and the action is constant. I specially enjoyed the character interaction. This is just a good old fashion sci-fi story. Going on to download his other book, Intrepid. An exciting story of Marine action and duty done. An exciting story of Marine action and duty done. This is a rapidly paced military science fiction novel that follows the path and good fortune that we wish all assignments could achieve. Looking for pure space opera? If you love space opera, then this book's for you. If you also love romance novels, you'll like it even better. Reminded me a bit of "Skylark of Space" (which tells you my age), or a more realistic version of "Flash Gordon." Personally, I'd just as soon lose the romances, because I think they detract from the rest of the story. Easy, Old Fashion Type Read The plot, storyline is not unique â aliens invade human world and humans counter attack. Author spends a lot of time w characters, easy to identify, empathize with characters. Simple storyline so no confusion, easy n lazy character driven read. Thereâs not a lot of technology here. Stuff just works and itâs not overly complicated nor outrageous. The Military part was okay to good. Not a lot of detailing the action of the space battles. It worked. Samey same w ground side but author demonstrates and provides more detail on TO & E of marines â how organized, squad, plt, Co + â and covers basic equipment, wpns. Would have liked more but author knew more mil than 97% of genre authors. Grenade launchers at sq, plt level , more punch at plt level, ....

Interesting Gives a satisfying divergence. Characters well developed and interesting. Different situation but same old challenges. Give it a read. Good book. A good story. A decent story, but not quite his best work. Great read. Go ahead and plunge into this tale of morals, conscience and freedom... and wake up to the new world..PJF writes like no other... great read. Quick and interesting. Good reading. Just sorry it wasn't longer PJF never disappoints

But after a mention that this classic was actually quite entertaining, I decided to finally pick it up. And they were right, because I actually found myself having a lot of fun while readingÂThe Invisible Man. Not only is the prose quite easy to read, but the plot itself is both intriguing and entertaining as things start escalating. The character development has been really well done and shows the effects being invisible can have on a man... If you are looking for an accessible and entertaining classic to read,ÂThe Invisible Man is the choice for you. Insightful Read this book for an English class and I thought it was very insightful. It gave very convincing theories on human nature and what possibly could lay ahead of us in the future. to me this book gave the illusion of mystery by not giving some people names. This mystery exemplified the imagery the time travler gave about the future. the ending heightened the mystery seven fold. I was left wanting more, wanting to know more, and wanting to go back to the future with the time traveler. Made me really think about how the time travelers theories are thought out and could potentially actually happen. Definitely a thought invoking read A Great Old War!! This is a good old fashioned yarn. I read the book through in one or two sittings. HG created a sense of menace and despair through the book, which I loved. His descriptions were evocative of the times, and I could almost visualize the destruction taking place, as the book weaved along. The writing is, for our times, old fashioned, yet timeless. The almost forgotten craft of writing is something that was displayed through the book. I lost the part where the Martians were 'destroyed'. It would have been really nice to have had a nice description of this, but you can't have everything in life! If you want a good book to read by the fireside, then this is one I can recommend. Classic Still Has the Attraction and Impact of A Fresh Story! The Time Machine, like all of H.G. Well's works, are classics.

Members Reviews: Stronger than book 1. Would you consider the audio edition of Marooned on the Conestoga to be better than the print version? Yes the audio version is superior, and is enhanced by the listening experience. What other book might you compare Marooned on the Conestoga to and why? None spring to mind, I find this series to be unique and original. Would you listen to another book narrated by Paul Hikari? Maybe, his performance in this book was in places a little harsh and grating. But I would still try another book narrated by him - if it was a book that was on my list to read. Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry? No I found this book neither sad or funny. Any additional comments? Second book in the series - and the action and story are hotting up. The series is going from strength to strength and I have already started on book 3. I received a free copy at my own request and have voluntarily left this honest review. Dont you dare give up. When I got this book I was troubled that there was a new narrator, and when I first started listening I didnt think I liked his voice. But I love this series so much I couldnt stop listening. By the end of the book I couldnt believe I thought I didnt like Paul Hilaris voice. As for the book, it is a wonderful continuation of the conestoga series. Good book, but narrator is irritating As a fan of John Thornton's books, I appreciate his gift of writing. But he (or whoever chooses narrators), should really give some serious thought as to who narrates his books. It was painful getting through books one and two. THEN..."Eureka!"... just as I was about to give up on the series, I listened to book 3 and this beautiful, professional actress stole my heart! I was so happy that Thornton finally found a great narrator. After I finished book 3, I was equally thrilled to hear the same narrator on book four. But, alas, for whatever reason, Lauren Holladay, the narrator disappeared from the rest of the books after book 4. If the narrators are grating on your nerves, stay with it at least through book 4. I'm ditching the series after that unless he gets some decent talent to narrate his books. What a pity. Another great read. Any additional comments? This does start of slow but it does pick up as the story progresses. The narrator does help. He really makes the characters come out.

Where do Malcador's true loyalties lie? Members Reviews: Good production values, but not the best WH40K Short First, it is a very short CD. Second, the story did not fit with Warhammer 40K canon. The secret society that the protagonist was inducted into does not exist in the current, post-Horus Heresy, literature. Also, the Emperor did not go into the web ways to battle while everyone else stayed on the outside. According to other WH Canon, he fought using his psychic powers through the Golden Throne. The voice acting was very good. The CD could have used some additional love on the mix down. The sound effects competed in a bad way with the narrative. I had to rewind and listen five or six times to hear some parts. The Sigilite - more than a butler, less than a king. Not a bad 40K tale. "A pair of massive golden doors......" Loved this CD. Great story. It starts off seemingly very benign, but ends up being grand in scope. A squad of elite commandos are tasked with a clandestine mission to recover a captured artifact of some kind. Their leader, Kaled Hassan, is called before Malcador The Sigillite, to report on their mission. He is a legendary figure and one of the most powerful psykers in the history of Mankind. Hassani believes he is there to explain their mission failure, but there is much more going on here. ** SPOILER ALERT ** Malcador takes him on a tour of what lies beneath the Imperial Palace. A world unto itself filled with secrets and mystery. There is where he learns that the Horus Heresy is just a prelude. The true battle for the souls of mankind is revealed to him. It's on a scale that is beyond human understanding. That's where the big payoff for this story unfolds. Great ending to very good story. The sound and voice effects are top of the line. I highly recommend it. Another excellent work With Toby Longworth doing another outstanding job of reading, this audio book continues the story of the Malcador the Sigilite recruiting his acolytes (Garro and others) during the Horus Heresy. The dialogue is just how you would expect the characters to speak. Excellent writing. The story is really in two parts: the first about Hassan and his mission. Then the ending illuminates the ongoing sadness of the Horus Heresy. You could listen to this before the Garro titles, but they all tie together. My only complaint is that 75 minutes leaves me wanting more. Okay. It's a pretty short story. I was hoping that it would shed some light on Malcadors' past. But it doesn't at all. So not to spoil it all I will say is good story, but not what I was after.

Members Reviews: The grim darkness of 40K and The Dark Angels. This Warhammer 40,000 (40K) audio drama certainly evokes "the grim darkness of the far future" better than some others. The story is tight and well-written and unlike some Black Library stories it has a definitive ending without a bunch of unanswered questions or major story elements that are left open at the end. It's not easy to write a review of this story without any spoilers, but I will try. Some familiarity with 40K lore and characters, particularly The Dark Angels is necessary to understand one of the characters and the consequences of contact with that character within the story. The story focuses on a particular Imperial Guard veteran who is considered the hero of a battle that took place long ago. He's the elderly and lone survivor of a conflict that saved his city from a Chaos Cultist incursion. Yet, there's a bit of mystery surrounding the circumstances of the battle and his survival. One of the Dark Angels Space Marines who arrived to mop up at the end of that battle visits the celebration honoring the venerated Guardsman. As is often the case with the Dark Angels the threat of an ulterior motive hangs about like a dark cloud. There's a bit of mystery and intrigue as well as some good 40K battle action sequences told in flashback sequences. The characters were interesting and the voice acting entertaining. As with other 40K audio dramas, this is a story of approximately one hour in length that was written specifically to be performed like an old time radio show with sound effects, music and voice acting. It is not a novel being read to you by a narrator, it is a play being performed by actors and it is one of the better 40K audio dramas in my opinion. Spoiler Alert: This part of the review gives away a little bit so don't read further if you're concerned about spoilers. Games Workshop has carefully sculpted the human part of their 40K universe to be as they say "the most oppressive regime in human history" and this story does not shy away in pointing that out. I've always said there are no good guys in the 40K universe except the ordinary humans trying to survive under that oppressive Dark Ages style regime and alien onslaughts and this story relies heavily on that. I've also said that The Dark Angels are horrible people who put their own fanatical motives ahead of the people and Imperium they supposedly protect and this story is certainly proof of that (though I still like my Dark Angels model collection, the models for sinister armies are some of the best looking). I really enjoyed this audio drama for its mystery and characters as well as the action, though I wouldn't listen to it on a day I needed cheering up.
