A lot of people are probably looking at the situation in Iran right now and thinking, should I be buying my airfare or should I wait?
A
That's CNBC personal finance reporter Greg Iacursi.
B
There's a lot of uncertainty. We don't know where jet fuel prices are going to go. We don't know where airfare is going to go. But travel experts say don't wait. If it's within your budget, just book it now and don't sit on it because really you're taking a gamble.
A
The gamble is it's just going to cost you more.
B
Prices have been trending up, and the longer you wait, the greater the odds that it's just going to keep going up. We don't know what's going to happen in Iran. We don't know when or if the conflict is going to end. So really, you're just taking a bet if you wait. It's also important to note that typically fares only continue to go up the closer you get to your departure date. The longer you wait, the more prices are going to continue to creep upwards.

Episode Title: Buy Plane Tickets Now 6/1/26
Host: Jessica Ettinger (CNBC)
Date: June 1, 2026
Duration: ~1 minute
Main Theme: Why now may be the best time to buy summer airfare amidst global uncertainty and rising prices.
This episode crisply addresses summer travelers' dilemma: is it better to buy plane tickets now or wait? Despite geopolitical and price uncertainties—especially surrounding the situation in Iran and jet fuel costs—experts and CNBC’s Jessica Ettinger and Greg Iacursi urge listeners not to delay. Fares are trending up, and waiting is akin to gambling that prices will come down; historically, they only go higher as your travel date approaches. The prudent move: if it fits your budget, book your trip now and avoid paying more later. For deeper analysis, check out Greg Iacursi's coverage on CNBC.com.
