Sujin Pak
Also with that fire boy. Wait.
Kulap V. Lysack
Welcome to another episode of add to cart. I'm your auntie Kulap V. Lysock.
Sujin Pak
And I'm your other auntie, second Pook.
Kulap V. Lysack
Second Pook Suk.
Sujin Pak
What?
Kulap V. Lysack
I mean, I'd like you to lead. Lots of things have been happening in your life.
Sujin Pak
It's been a weird year.
Kulap V. Lysack
Yeah.
Sujin Pak
Because I really, I was like the 50s and I. And they are gonna be. The 50s are gonna be the greatest because I've had decade over decade. When I turned 30, I was like, oh, this is so much better than my 20s. And when I turned 40, I was like, 30s sucked. The 40s are amazing. And then when I was approaching 50, I was like, this is it. It's just like gonna get exponentially. I mean there's just gonna be. It's just a bloom. I'm in my bloom.
Kulap V. Lysack
You are in your bloom.
Sujin Pak
Full cherry blossom bloom. So it's not to say that I'm not blooming, but man, I've had a weird year.
Kulap V. Lysack
Yeah. But here's the thing. That's where you're at. That's at your bloom. But you're dealing with other people whom you are caretaker of that are in different stages. That's the thing. You know what I mean?
Sujin Pak
That's the thing. That's the thing. And again, I will not stop saying this for a full calendar year. I had a spider in my ear.
Kulap V. Lysack
And I think people keep forgetting. People keep forgetting.
Sujin Pak
The other day I was walking out of my parents house and they've got a bush that's kind of in the walkway and I passed by it and there was just probably like a bee or a fly and it just buzzed and. And my whole body, it went limp. Like, I almost lost full muscle control.
Kulap V. Lysack
You have insect trauma.
Sujin Pak
I didn't even register the sound. Like my body went like it was second. Second, you know, limp. First.
Kulap V. Lysack
It was more like you were like, what is happening? And then you put it together.
Sujin Pak
Yeah, and then I put it together. Yes. I was a detective. And so then I was like, wow, that's crazy. For. For those that are new to this, you can listen to the episode where the worst thing ever happened to me, which was a spider jumped into my ear. So then what we're talking about, I
Kulap V. Lysack
jumped into her ear and set up shop for an entire day.
Sujin Pak
We don't need to.
Kulap V. Lysack
All right, go ahead.
Sujin Pak
And then I saw a psychic, and the psychic said, it's a message. And the message was relax.
Kulap V. Lysack
And it's not that you don't want to relax, just things have been happening. I mean, if anything like that, you're hoping to, but just the hits keep hitting.
Sujin Pak
I was planning on it, clear my calendar. I mean, you know, there was a few things that were happening. And I said, you know, the end of the year. For those with school age children, May is intense. I would say September and May are the most intense months of the school year to me. So you're onboarding your kids and then you're offboarding your kids. And if you have one that's like graduating or doing something, you know, kind of special, like my gal is graduating sixth grade, going to a new school. Oh, oh, oh, there's. There's end of the year, you know, the ceremonies, graduation awards, you know. And so I was like, I'm going to really just be very good to myself. It's been a rocky start of the year. Let me just, like, clear it. I got a little midweek girls trip planned. I really am taking care of myself. And then my sweet, sweet boy, my labradoodle son got into a bike accident and he has broken three bones. So now in the school year, we are now at six bones.
Kulap V. Lysack
He.
Sujin Pak
And the crazy thing is the day before school started for his new school, he broke his foot in three places. So that was a crazy way to start junior high, let's just say. Not fun.
Kulap V. Lysack
Yeah.
Sujin Pak
For him, for anyone. I was so worried and it was so stressful. Besides the physical healing, just like him starting off a school year, new kids, new classes, new everything, and having to go to the nurse's office for lunch, you know, not participating in any after school activities, all of that stuff. Just got a real slow start. It's fine. He's coasting now. He's Mr. Campus. And then just a few weeks before the end of the year, he breaks three bones.
Kulap V. Lysack
He bookends the year.
Sujin Pak
He bookends the year.
Kulap V. Lysack
You make a plan. And unfortunately, life happens.
Sujin Pak
We've been planning this for a year. Since last summer, he has a huge surfing trip with his cousins to Hawaii. I mean, going to the homeland for many reasons. Him being hapa and him being a surfer. He's never been to Hawaii as a surfer. He's been to Hawaii as just a tourist shoot. That ain't happening.
Kulap V. Lysack
That ain't happening.
Sujin Pak
And so, anywho, it's been weird. I mean, I can't even feel bad about his injury. Of course, the first initial, you say, it's not an Asian thing. Thank goodness. Cause I thought maybe it was our culture to bear. My first instinct was just so much rage at, like, how could you do this? Like, what were you thinking?
Kulap V. Lysack
Sometimes it's not crage. Sometimes it's just rage.
Sujin Pak
Yes. I, as you can imagine, can't tell the difference. I'm blind to that. I'm blind to that.
Kulap V. Lysack
Defining any rage for you is crage in a way.
Sujin Pak
Correct. Because my kids would say there's normal rage, and then there's my mom's rage, where, you know, it can be very alarming. And so after I kind of got through that, I was like, I can't even be upset because he didn't break his neck.
Kulap V. Lysack
Yes, of course.
Sujin Pak
Every time I look at him and I see two places in his collarbone broken in two places so close to the neck.
Kulap V. Lysack
Oh, I didn't realize it was the collarbone.
Sujin Pak
So close to the neck, I can't even be upset. So now I'm, like, swallowing this crage. I'm, like, constipated. I can't sleep. I think my hair is falling out. Just because I can't even be mad at anyone.
Kulap V. Lysack
Yeah, just cover it in the gravy of gratitude.
Sujin Pak
And this is what self help is. I realize it's just gaslighting yourself.
Kulap V. Lysack
That's right. That's right.
Sujin Pak
24 7.
Kulap V. Lysack
Making it until you make it or you forget it. Set it and forget it.
Sujin Pak
Yes, set it and forget it. Possible title of F. That is my 50s. You're right. I'm gonna set it, then forget it because. Wow. I don't know what to do with it. And the thing is, again, he's my labradoodle. He's the best. You couldn't ask for a better kid. And yet, all day long, I just want to strangle him, you know? Mama.
Kulap V. Lysack
Mom.
Sujin Pak
Mom. Hey, Mom. Mom, Mom, Mom. I'm like, o. Okay, just one second. And I'm used to having all this time to be on my own, to do my walks, to do my work, to do all of the things just by myself. That's why I moved here.
Kulap V. Lysack
So I went. Come a knocking. That's why I moved. Come have lunch with me. Come having an Asian style slo.
Sujin Pak
Exactly. I built a house shaped coffin in the coastal area of Santa Barbara. And so all day long. And he can't do anything for himself. He can't move. He can't sit in a chair and get up.
Kulap V. Lysack
Oh, my God. I swow. Wow.
Sujin Pak
Again. It's all coagulating in my intestines because I can't.
Kulap V. Lysack
I can't be upset.
Sujin Pak
I'm like coming. You know that. Okay. Where I'm just singing everything. Okay, just a minute. Does that sound like singing? That sounds like a horror movie now.
Kulap V. Lysack
I was just gonna say that, like,
Sujin Pak
that is in my headphones.
Kulap V. Lysack
For the first time, I know what's behind it. You know, you're not Mrs. Doubtfire to me. And especially what you're doing with your face. And I. Because I know you was. It was chill. It was like, no, I'm too scared to watch it. But that's what I assume that clown sounds like.
Sujin Pak
It's so off key. You know what I mean? Like, there's not one note that hits. Yeah, it's jagged. It's jagged. It's not on key. But anyway, again, though, get that gravy. Gratitude.
Kulap V. Lysack
Yeah. Yep.
Sujin Pak
He will heal, you know, even if he has to have surgery.
Kulap V. Lysack
That's a possibility.
Sujin Pak
He will still. That's a possibility. He will still heal. He will walk.
Kulap V. Lysack
This is what also is happening for some reason. And my zoom is not doing this.
Sujin Pak
That's my zoom.
Kulap V. Lysack
Your zoom is like.
Sujin Pak
I don't know.
Kulap V. Lysack
It is choosing times to zoom into your face and pull out.
Sujin Pak
And I'm like, just will at will. Some weird AI upgrade to only my zoom. You guys can't see it visually for both of us. It's unsettling. It's like I'm on a dolly. I am on a dolly. Not even a camera. And someone is pulling me to and from the lens. It's disconcerting. And I don't know how to make it stop. I don't know even know how it turned out. Is this like a new.
Kulap V. Lysack
Yeah, it must be a feature where they're like, upgrade. I'm not upgrading my zoom because tripping me out. And she's like a Moving background of Hawaii in the ocean. So I'm just like, what is going on?
Sujin Pak
I thought I was. I'm trying to. Again, I'm trying to dress for the part summer. When this comes. Get it? This comes. When you hear this, we are going to be just at the. At the. What do you call it when you.
Kulap V. Lysack
The precipice launch.
Sujin Pak
The precipice of a gorgeous summer. So I set this island background. But anyway, enough about me. What the hell is going on with you?
Kulap V. Lysack
I don't know if you're noticing something. If I'm striking you. My face is like.
Sujin Pak
You're like, well, is it your brows, girl?
Kulap V. Lysack
Yes.
Sujin Pak
Wait, no.
Kulap V. Lysack
Girl, yes.
Sujin Pak
Wait, what?
Kulap V. Lysack
Because.
Sujin Pak
Wait, wait, my brows right now.
Kulap V. Lysack
I've been trying to do brows.
Sujin Pak
Yeah.
Kulap V. Lysack
And that's also tripping me out. I'm letting you know. I'm like. Because I was going to bring it up to you, but then it like shifts around and they're moving. I'm like, okay, this is AI too. Like everything's happening now.
Sujin Pak
The zoom browse. I did. I was just messing around one day and. And I have zoom browse. You guys again.
Kulap V. Lysack
Can't see.
Sujin Pak
I realize that, but you're with us, right? But when I. When she was logging on, just setting up her audio, I was looking, I was like, does she have zoom browse on?
Kulap V. Lysack
Girl, girl, this is a game changer. Game changer.
Sujin Pak
Okay, let's get into it. Let's get into it.
Kulap V. Lysack
Do you remember when I did my colors? Yes, of course, Esther.
Sujin Pak
I can't. I refer back to that stupid video whenever I'm like, gift giving time. I'm like, what were her colors again? Cool. But then there's like black, but what? And I have to sit through that fucking three minute video to like remember your colors. I'm like, no, okay, no, cool black, but. But warm jewel tone warm. I'm like, this is all contradictory. But go on towards the end of
Kulap V. Lysack
that video and maybe I'll post it again so you guys remember it too. She was like, I like the shape of your eyebrows, but they need to be thicker. And so from that point on, I was like, okay, I'm gonna do something. I was considering Strike this place my friend goes to in Beverly Hills. But it's a thing where they want like six to eight weeks of growth and then you go in and you never touch your brows. They tend to. Is so hard for me. I live in Los Angeles. For those of you who aren't familiar, it's so hard for me to go west of La Brea. And that's even being generous, I stick to the east side of la. It's a sprawling city. So the idea of going there to take care of my brows. Just my brows, it's a no. So then I wasn't really into the idea of.
Sujin Pak
What is it? Blading.
Kulap V. Lysack
You've heard of that, right, Sue?
Sujin Pak
Yes. I did that in Korea.
Kulap V. Lysack
You know, I mean, I have tattoos, so obviously I'm not against, like, putting ink in my body, but I still was like, I don't. It doesn't feel right.
Sujin Pak
Yeah.
Kulap V. Lysack
So I have met this amazing woman. Her name is Wendy Nguyen. She's friends with my cousin Susandra Sumato,
Sujin Pak
who is the Asian network.
Kulap V. Lysack
Dana Dang, my niece's, you know, aunt. Like, throw another Asian.
Sujin Pak
Get in there, man.
Kulap V. Lysack
Get in there. So she. I wanted to glow up for my birthday, and I talked about it last show, and we were gonna do the balayage, and then we settled on that. That wasn't realistic for me for what I was willing to do in terms of upkeep. And so instead, for my hair, we did a gloss. Like a silver gloss.
Sujin Pak
Right.
Kulap V. Lysack
And. Which makes my blacks look blacker. I'm, like, loving this good vibe. Okay. I mean, you can tell, right? Cause I'm.
Sujin Pak
I can 100% tell. Because I thought. Oh, at first I thought, it's just the lighting. Again, you're a matte black girl, so her background is matte black, so it's hard to say. So I was like, oh, her hair looks darker, but it could be just the background. But now it is actually your hair.
Kulap V. Lysack
It's a little. Yeah, it's temporary, but it's a little shine. A little, you know? Yeah. And then she was like, let's. Let's do, like, a brow. What about a brow? Lamination and tint. Lamination. What is it? It's essentially a permit. It's a perm. It's a Something to make. It's, you know, it's not perm. Curly. But all it is my own brows.
Sujin Pak
Oh, you have to have brows. That's way.
Kulap V. Lysack
Way. But I didn't. When you see the between. This is why I think maybe this is for you too.
Sujin Pak
Yeah. Because I don't have brows.
Kulap V. Lysack
I don't have brows. I don't have lashes. We also did a lash.
Sujin Pak
Same.
Kulap V. Lysack
Okay. Lash perm. I will send you a photo suit. Again, I don't have a lot, but you can. It looks. It's an improvement. It's a curl improvement for so little.
Sujin Pak
How long did that take, though. Cause I've seen that I can't long. Oh, not long at all. No. Okay.
Kulap V. Lysack
Not at long at all.
Sujin Pak
Because anything around my eyelashes for more than a second really gives me. I get very claustrophobic.
Kulap V. Lysack
I mean, I get that. And also, I think maybe you also have some trauma maybe around that area as well, so.
Sujin Pak
Oh, yeah.
Kulap V. Lysack
Okay, let's talk about this. Let's. Gravy, Gratitude. Gravy.
Sujin Pak
Gratitude, gravy.
Kulap V. Lysack
Gratitude, gravy. Gratitude, gravy. Let's stick with the brows.
Sujin Pak
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Kulap V. Lysack
Sis, this has been a game changer.
Sujin Pak
Now, can you break down the process? What is that?
Kulap V. Lysack
Of course. So I'm just lying down, and we like that already. But what I understand is she's probably taping off and making sure it's a good shape, but she's taking what little of my brows and then essentially combing them up and laminating them in the shape that fits, you know? And then after that lamination is completed, she's adding tint to it.
Sujin Pak
Okay.
Kulap V. Lysack
And it's not permanent.
Sujin Pak
In person, does it look like. Like a block of color, or does it actually look like you have.
Kulap V. Lysack
I'm going to send you photos now. It looks like hair. It doesn't look like a block of color.
Sujin Pak
Yeah, because you've seen that, and I've seen that look where I'm like. I mean, in photos, it looks amazing, but in person, you look insane.
Kulap V. Lysack
Yeah. So I. Sue, I'm texting you. You have your phone up right now. I'm sending you, like, basically, what is the cost?
Sujin Pak
I need to know the cost. Let's get real.
Kulap V. Lysack
It's under. I'll look up right now. Cause she did. We were doing a bunch of different stuff, so I also got my nails done. Okay, Soochen, I am sending you. This is, like, so necessary. We're not even gonna do a show anymore. I'm just, like, showing her things that she needs to know. Okay. Look at how little brows I have in this photo.
Sujin Pak
Okay. Yes.
Kulap V. Lysack
Now when I'm showing you when it was completed, it's darker. Cause it had to fade down a little bit. And it faded down with, like, pretty quickly. But I was kind of, like, unsure. I'm like, oh, God, I look like Michael Jackson. But I also knew that it looked right. Oh, and then.
Sujin Pak
Whoa, wait, it looks like individual hair.
Kulap V. Lysack
Yes, because it's my hair. How did she do that? Yeah, it's, like, filling it in. That's why I'm saying. And so this is, like, days later. This is maybe Two days later, I didn't take a shower for, like, you know. Cause I want. I wanted. It's. I wanted to fade, but I also wanted to stick.
Sujin Pak
Yeah.
Kulap V. Lysack
Do you know what I mean? Like, and so that's days later. And this is where we are, almost a week later. And I love it.
Sujin Pak
If you didn't show me the before picture, I would say, well, that's. Cause you have eyebrow hair.
Kulap V. Lysack
No, I don't. And they. And thickened it up. And she came to my house.
Sujin Pak
Text her. I need to know the price.
Kulap V. Lysack
No, I'll tell you. Let me find it right now.
Sujin Pak
Sorry, guys. I know we're recording a show. I will say that the times I've been to Korea, the only thing I've ever done consistently there is this brow thing. Because it was such a game changer, especially if you've never had brows. And then because the skin stuff is amazing, but you really gotta commit. Minimum six month.
Kulap V. Lysack
Yes, of course.
Sujin Pak
So I was like, the skin stuff, it's not as satisfying because if I'm only going once a year at most. But the eyebrow stuff. So this gives me a full so
Kulap V. Lysack
for the brow lamination, shaping and tint, 120.
Sujin Pak
Oh, God, I love the Asian.
Kulap V. Lysack
So you're coming. You're coming in my house.
Sujin Pak
Network. It's actually cheaper or very close. But cheaper than what I pay in Korea.
Kulap V. Lysack
Yeah, Yeah. I.
Sujin Pak
Well, not for lamination, but I mean, I'm doing a much more extensive thing. But still, just to get the effect of. Of eyebrows. I don't care how they do it, Sue.
Kulap V. Lysack
I've never had this life. I've never had this life.
Sujin Pak
I feel.
Kulap V. Lysack
I don't know. I feel. Now, of course, you know, I have to have a spoolie.
Sujin Pak
Oh, don't you love a tool? I have to go up. Cause otherwise they look intriguing.
Kulap V. Lysack
Like, I can do this. And they'll spike like this. So I have to, like, spoolie it up and then shape it down. Otherwise it can just like, be spiky like this.
Sujin Pak
Because it's a lifestyle.
Kulap V. Lysack
Cause it's a lifestyle. She's basically just spread my hair out, basically.
Sujin Pak
Okay.
Kulap V. Lysack
And then, like, filled it in. You're in.
Sujin Pak
So you're in. I'm in. I'm in also because it's temporary. So it's temporary. If you love it, great, keep it up. If not, move on.
Kulap V. Lysack
But the second. Keep up. More so than when I was doing lash extensions. Lash extensions. What were happening is as my eyelashes were growing, getting heavy, they would pull what little I had and then I would have these gaps. God, did it look amazing for a week or two weeks. You know what I mean? But this is like, this I can. I'm on board with. And I think this is. This, sue, is a lifestyle change. Okay.
Sujin Pak
All right. I'm in for it. If I hadn't had this experience, I'd be like, I mean, eyebrows, they really make that much of a difference, you know, but they really do. It's a very subtle thing, I think also, as you get older, for me at least, not only do I not. I never had a lot eyebrows, but now I have, like, patchy.
Kulap V. Lysack
Yeah.
Sujin Pak
You know, where I'm like, well, that's a weird place for that to grow. And so I think that this would be nice. Yeah. It's such a subtle difference. And you know what? Probably someone who. Who met you or certainly someone who just met you, but someone who hasn't doesn't see your face on a regular basis. Like, I see cool ops face close up on a camera on a regular basis. So I noticed, but wouldn't notice. But that's not the point. The point is, is that you're looking at your face every single day. And it is such a game changer when you've got your eyebrows just really well done.
Kulap V. Lysack
Really well done. Sometimes I don't even like it when makeup people do my eyebrows because it looks not cartoony, but it's like, it's too dark.
Sujin Pak
Too dark.
Kulap V. Lysack
It's too dark. Something about. I'm like, and this is not quite it. But now I look like a femme. Peter Gallagher from the O.C.
Sujin Pak
are you.
Kulap V. Lysack
You know exactly who I'm talking about. And I mean that complimentary to myself.
Sujin Pak
Is there a little swag in your step? You know how sometimes.
Kulap V. Lysack
Because I always focus on my lips because I have big, luscious lips. And so that's where the smoke and mirrors are. But now I feel like my face is more balanced. We're strong, and it's a nice bookend in my face.
Sujin Pak
God, what a. What an achievement at this stage in life.
Kulap V. Lysack
Thank you so much.
Sujin Pak
What an achievement at this stage in our life. I love it, I love it, I love it, I love it. I can't wait to do it at your house.

Speaking of lips and I want to gate keep this. I really want to gatekeep this. This was a gift from my sister Alyssa Vilasak. It's lipstick but I want to gatekeep it because it's so good and I want to gift other people but it's like I can't. That's not what add to cart's about.
Sujin Pak
I know, but I gatekeep all the time though, because of this reason. A lot of times it's like something I want to buy you in the future and I'll be like, oh, I can't show her that one. Like in another episode that we're working on I was like what do I do? Because a lot of this is on my co op list.
Kulap V. Lysack
We just hope that because we're all paramedic, menopausal or menopausal that we forget that's, that's what I'm banking on, you know, like that's it.
Sujin Pak
And by the way, the only thing in the year of 2026 that you can bank on it, that is 100% that check will cash. You will forget it. I will forget it.
Kulap V. Lysack
And listeners may forget it too. Yeah.
Sujin Pak
Yes, I think so.
Kulap V. Lysack
We're all aging together, you know. Now, are you familiar with the. I don't even know how to say it. Guerlain. It's Guerlain. Guerlain. Guerlain. The rouge.
Sujin Pak
Let me tell you, I've been gatekeeping this one.
Kulap V. Lysack
You've been gatekeeping this?
Sujin Pak
But somebody already. Great. Somebody gifted it.
Kulap V. Lysack
My sister, for my birthday, got me the Guerlain rouge with case. And the case itself is exquisite. It is a case that also has a mirror attached to it.
Sujin Pak
It's so very, like, art deco, you know, just classic, very chic.
Kulap V. Lysack
And she had it personalized with my name on it. And my sister Alyssa was with me for my colors, and she found me a gorgeous shade. She did a lot of TikTok research to find me a nice, like, shade that I could like an everyday shade.
Sujin Pak
Ugh. And with the brows, honey, you're giving at the top and you're given at the bottom.
Kulap V. Lysack
I was like, she's outdone herself. Those are the best gifts she's ever given me. And she gives me good gifts.
Sujin Pak
Ooh, it's so good. And then assuming that you can refill the lipstick. Yes.
Kulap V. Lysack
Correct assumption. But they also have very. They also have really pretty different types of cases too. So you can mix it up. I wouldn't.
Sujin Pak
I'm good with this one.
Kulap V. Lysack
It's black with gold.
Sujin Pak
Good luck getting. It's out of stock. No.
Kulap V. Lysack
Wow. It.
Sujin Pak
These go out of stock a lot. So I. Maybe because Mother's Day just happened. Maybe they just had a run. That's what it is. I bet.
Kulap V. Lysack
I bet. But it'll come back. It'll.
Sujin Pak
Yeah, they always come back. They always come back.
Kulap V. Lysack
So, Sue, I want to. And I may have to. I think I've talked about these two people before, but if you are in the LA area, I highly recommend my friend, my dear friend, who is a home baker. Her name is Kat Sang Surajan, but she goes by Kat's Mac and Treats. She's on Instagram. And basically almost every birthday cake I'm getting, you know, every birthday cake, every. When I have a holiday party, that's where I'm getting sweets from. She makes the best. Max. I don't even like macarons. I don't. Except for hers, because hers. Not too sweet. Not too sweet.
Sujin Pak
It's so important anti compliment.
Kulap V. Lysack
Not too sweet. It melts in the mouth. She also does like Asian flavors. Like, she'll do Mexican chocolate, but then she'll also do black sesame. She's doing Thai tea. She's doing like, she's. And so my last birthday My friend Lara got me a cake from Kat. And it's gorgeous. And it's just so, so pretty. It's green with pink frosting. She add little gems to it. And it was inside. It was a dark chocolate, which I don't like. Milk chocolate. I love dark chocolate. It's the best case I've ever had. It's moist.
Sujin Pak
I mean, it's so beautiful. This should be a piece of jewelry that you wear around your neck.
Kulap V. Lysack
Yes. It's so beautiful. And my friend Laura got me a birthday cake for her birthday in April. I got her one from Kat. And all I said to Kat, I was like, okay, these are the things she liked. It was complete word salad. Like, I was like Mondrian, David Bowie, Basquiat, Keith Haring. And so if you hit the link to Laura's cake, you can kind of see what Cat did. I mean, this is cat freehanding. She's a literal genius.
Sujin Pak
I mean, it is like a. Like an art cake. Oh, this is. This is. The cake is art.
Kulap V. Lysack
That's right.
Sujin Pak
The cake is art, you guys. Okay, we're gonna share these on.
Kulap V. Lysack
We're gonna share this. Yes. If you are in the dice of these photos, I'll share the photos. Yes. Go to Cats Max and Treats. And then. So she's Lao American. I met her through Los Angeles. This next person I'm going to talk about is one of my Los Angeles brothers. For my birthday, he catered a Lao dinner. His name is Tip on Instagram. He is eatyumslut. And he has a really popular pop up that happens in la. And if you scroll, sue, you can see the menu he created for us on my birthday. And it was so delicious. It was such a fun, cool experience. And I got to share with my pals like, Lao food. I mean, it wasn't as spicy because they're my friends and I know what they can take, but it was absolutely delicious.
Sujin Pak
Wow. Wait, I'm confused. You went to a restaurant?
Kulap V. Lysack
No, this is all at my house.
Sujin Pak
So he came to your house and he cooked this food?
Kulap V. Lysack
Yes. This was a. Sorry, I'll back up. It was a catered dinner made at my house, and it was just my friend Tip and my new friend Darnie, and they just. They made everything and walked us through all of the courses.
Sujin Pak
What a treat for everyone there.
Kulap V. Lysack
It was amazing. The appetizers were three different versions of sort of like a lettuce wrap. One is saku, and it's filled with mushrooms, peanuts, and aromatics. And the Nem Khao he made was. This is one of my favorite Lao dishes. It's a crispy coconut rice ball. It's crumbled up, it's mixed with herbs. Oftentimes it's sour pork, but this time he did it with fermented fish. Very tangy, very crunchy, very fresh bite. And then he also did paan Pa, where you make your own wrap with seasoned fish and herbs. Light, perfect. And then we got into our mains and like the best chicken you've ever had dressed in like lemongrass, garlic, Lao spices. We had sayua, which is a Lao sausage. It's very garlicky. That's pork bursting with flavor. He did a salad, a sour mango salad or unripe mango salad, and we call it mango. We had a mokba, which is like steamed fish, very herbaceous with dill wrapped in a banana leaf. And then a sort of like almost kind of a version of ceviche. We call it yum. It's like mixed seafood salad tossed in the spicy lime dressing. And then we had the Lao, the. The dish of Lao, which is of Laos, which is la. And we. He added beef. It was like he did like a sliced steak version, all served with sticky rice and then a non alcoholic beverage as well, which was this beautiful violet because of the pea flour, coconut water, lemonade. It was a feast. So much.
Sujin Pak
I mean, this is how you do it, you know, as a mature lady Auntie, you invite your friends over, you give the gift, okay? You give the gift and you feed everyone in your home. Everyone leaves at a decent hour. You're back in your mumu, rolling on the couch like nothing ever happened.
Kulap V. Lysack
I think I'm realizing basically all four things I'm talking about. Never left my house. Never left it once.
Sujin Pak
And that's.
Kulap V. Lysack
Yeah, it came to me.
Sujin Pak
That's peak aspirational auntie behavior.
Kulap V. Lysack
This is Taurus to a T. Beauty,
Sujin Pak
surface food, comfort, home. This is my daughter. Yes, it is. I see my daughter's future. This is all she wants to do. She just wants to dig into her home. Never wants to leave camp. Couldn't pay her to go to a camp. Yeah, she's fine. I don't see her. She's not bugging me. She is pitter pattering, doing her own thing. And she just is in there just stinking up, getting her ducktail feathers all perfectly warm in that. Yeah, this is all she wants to do.
Kulap V. Lysack
Yeah, it's a great life.
Sujin Pak
It's a great life. It is an absolutely great life. Wow, wow, wow. That is a birthday I was going
Kulap V. Lysack
to invite you but I knew you weren't gonna come. I thought about it and that's to me. But I knew you were never gonna come.
Sujin Pak
That's the gift to me.
Kulap V. Lysack
Yeah, that's right. Your happy birthday. Cool up Sujin.
Sujin Pak
You say I I'm going to give the gift to all my friends. This wonderful meal. And what shall I give my pod wife as a gift on my birthday? Right? A non invitation invitation. God I love those.
Kulap V. Lysack
Let's take a break and we'll be right back and dive into Suchin's cart.

Kulap V. Lysack
We're back on add to cart. I'm Auntie Cuckoo.
Sujin Pak
And I'm Auntie Poo Poo.
Kulap V. Lysack
That's right, Auntie Poo Poo. What's in your cart?
Sujin Pak
Yeah, my cart is an ad to Q. Good old ad to Q. Ooh, let's
Kulap V. Lysack
hear that theme song.
Sujin Pak
Do we have a theme song again? Set it. Forget it.
Kulap V. Lysack
We do. All right. What it was. Add to cue. Add to cues. When it's TV shows, it's. It's music. It's music.
Sujin Pak
Anything that you consume in that way, something media, I guess, related. Yeah. So I'm gonna hit all your senses first. I'm gonna hit your books, girl. Have you heard of the Book Outlet?
Kulap V. Lysack
No.
Sujin Pak
Am I the last person on the planet? I am inadvertently, and I support it wholly, your brave Amazon protest.
Kulap V. Lysack
Let me come clean. Let me come clean. Let me come clean. No, give me a second to come clean. Because I've told this to Suchin, but I have not told the listeners around Eastern Easter is when I started purchasing from Amazon again to fill Emmy's and her best friend Ezzy's. Yes, I'm blaming the children, the eggs for their Easter basket. And it is a slippery slope. And like a coward, I'm hiding behind the fact that I have not downloaded
Sujin Pak
it on my phone not to be dismissed. Cause so much of this happens in the carpool line where you're like, all right, that's right. Add. Add, add.
Kulap V. Lysack
So I'm doing it desktop only. And like a coward under my husband's name.
Sujin Pak
Why else do we marry white men? I guess so. I guess so.
Kulap V. Lysack
I'm using him as send them to the front line. That's right.
Sujin Pak
Put your body on the line for us. For us as women of color. Listen, there is absolutely zero judgment. The fact that we are even attempting this and I inadvertently. I've told you since the beginning of the year, it's not that I'm a no buy, but I'm kind of like only in person by. And I've really doubled down on it has to be not new. So that's been kind of my own shackles that I've chained myself to. So the book Outlet could be. Could be a. Could be a answer to this. Now, does Amazon own Book Outlet? Maybe.
Kulap V. Lysack
Don't tell us, guys. Just don't tell us.
Sujin Pak
Don't tell us. Let me live in this fantasy of Book Outlet. I did a light Google search, didn't come up with anything. But the Book Outlet is basically a website where they source publisher overstocks and remaindered inventory that did not sell in traditional bookstores. And they are cheap. It's like they are very close to going to your thrift store and getting a $3 paperback. Cheap. And they sometimes have the latest, and then they often have, you know, obviously the greatest hits from past. It's kind of a mishmash, but the inventory is massive. Anytime I have the urge to read a book, I go there first. And then I've been buying my books there, and I would say 90% of them for me, you're finding it. I'm finding, especially my kids stuff because, you know, my son is just getting into Lord of the Rings. My daughter just started Anne of Green Gables. Like, that's all gonna, of course, be on Book Outlet because those have been in print for so long. And I'm gonna recommend a book I bought on Book Outlet called Mercury Pictures. It was just a random find. That's the other thing. Because of the price is so low. You're also willing to sort of pick up a book that maybe you don't know anything about, but kind of, you know, you're willing to take the chance because you're not spending $25, $26, $15, whatever. This book was five bucks. And a hardcover, too. It's Mercury Pictures Presents by Anthony Mara. When did this come out? I don't even know when it came out. But anyway, it's such a New York Times bestseller. It was so fun, and it was such a great read. This is a book you're gonna. You are gonna love, especially. It's set in, like, I forget the 40s, 50s, Hollywood. I forget it. That doesn't matter. That's sort of the vague background.
Kulap V. Lysack
It's just 1940s.
Sujin Pak
40s, yes. And it's just so good. There's Asian American sort of like identity woven through, even though the book is told through the perspective of an Italian immigrant. So it has a little bit of interior Chinatown esque to it. Another book, by the way, if add to Q if you have not read so good. So it's just. It's modern, it's nostalgic. I don't know. There were some moments in there where I was just like, wow. There was a quote in there that like, the book is so dog eared, I'm gonna. It's not an exact quote because I don't have the book in front of me, but it's something to the effect where the mom of the main character, she's an Italian immigrant and her daughter becomes quite successful and she looks at her daughter and she says something to the effect of, you know, isn't it every immigrant parent's dream to watch your child have problems that are so out of your depth to solve, you know, that she's climbed so high that even her problems, you could marvel in the fact. I just like that kind of choked me up, you know, in a way that I was like, wow. So anyway, Book Outlet and Mercury Pictures, I highly recommend Add to Q. You, you have to check out this website.
Kulap V. Lysack
This is incredible.
Sujin Pak
Especially for kids. I mean, you're buying so many books for kids. They're going through them so fast. So this is a great resource too for you. My next Add to Q is a YouTube channel that I am obsessed with.
Kulap V. Lysack
Do tell.
Sujin Pak
So it's these, It's a married content creator. A married couple that creates these travel videos, Ray and Nick. Ray is spelled R H E A and Nick. And they're two. They're a married couple. They are high school sweethearts. They lived in New York and then one of them lost their jobs and they were like, fuck it, let's just travel the world and see how this goes. And they started this content channel. Now I consume a lot of YouTube and specifically travel videos on YouTube. It's just in my background. It's what's on when I'm doing the dishes or whatever. I would say I have maybe they're like one of three that I've discovered in terms of travel content where it's not like, you know what I'm talking about, like, hey, I'm in Hong Kong and I'm having the, you know, the fluffy pancake and it's just the same old shit. And it's a montage of gorgeous, aesthetically pleasing filtered video. Like, I, I'm not interested in that. I don't want to see, you know, a 16 year old's version of her, you know, Pinterest board. That's not what I want to see.
Kulap V. Lysack
Yeah, or somebody going to Bali.
Sujin Pak
I want you down and dirty. I want you to tell me where to eat. I don't want to go to the touristy spots, but I don't also want to be eating like the foot of an animal. You know what I mean?
Kulap V. Lysack
That's just me.
Sujin Pak
So somewhere in between. They have so much personality. They're hilarious. Again, another big thing lacking in this genre. You know, you don't need a lot of personality and humor. If what you're showing are some of the most, you know, gorgeous sights in the world. That's what you're clicking on the video for. But for me, I like my gorgeous videos with a sense of humor and personality. They're very New York. They're very much friends that I had in New York that we have in la. It's just. They feel like they're one of us. It's just. They're fantastic.
Kulap V. Lysack
You guys check them out. Definitely new to me. This is so cool.
Sujin Pak
Oh, no. Yeah, they just started not, I think.
Kulap V. Lysack
Oh, really?
Sujin Pak
I think they've been maybe a year now on the road and so I've. I adore them and they're so fun and entertaining and it's just like if you're into travel videos or even if you're not, but you want to travel to some of the cities that they've been to, they'll give you a guide that may be more relatable than like asmr cream puffs.
Kulap V. Lysack
Yeah, yeah.
Sujin Pak
You know.
Kulap V. Lysack
Okay, good.
Sujin Pak
And then my final ad to Q. Have you seen Legends on Netflix?
Kulap V. Lysack
I have not.
Sujin Pak
You think a few customs officers can
Kulap V. Lysack
take on the biggest drug gangs in Britain? Absolutely.
Sujin Pak
It's a new series that launched in May. It's starring Steven Coogan. He's so good. You feel good. I love him. There's something about him. Right. He's kind of sexy.
Kulap V. Lysack
Sexy. Smarmy.
Sujin Pak
Smarmy. Sexy. Dry.
Kulap V. Lysack
Dry. But also like there's. He plays pithy really well too.
Sujin Pak
Yes. And God love, in this day and age, an aging Hollywood actor that just looks normal. Okay. That can't be overlooked. So it's a six episode British crime drama on Netflix and it's based on true events. Okay. And the story is. I haven't gotten through it all because I'm just savoring each episode. So I don't know what happens, but it's about a team of just plain old customs officers in the early 1990s who go undercover to infiltrate the heroin smuggling rings in the uk. And it seems so outlandish that this happened, but I love this tickles. Every little tiny cartilage in my body. I love a British crime. Cerebral, nostalgic. It's great if it's based on a little bit of. Of history. You know, I love A black doves. I love this. I love. You know, what was that one? There was something. Q department Q was another great one. Those are three great British crime genre in the past, like few years that I've loved. So I just. I'm so bummed that it's only six episodes.
Kulap V. Lysack
You loved it.
Sujin Pak
I loved it. Add to cue that. Oh, it's so fun.
Kulap V. Lysack
Does he get to be a little funny? Oh, yeah.
Sujin Pak
That's the thing, why I love British crime dramas generally. They're not going to be as gory as they are either, really. You know, dark humor or cerebral. You know, so I'm not into the crime dramas that maybe, you know, there's like a. A dead body and a lot of graphic things on screen. So that's maybe why I tend slow horses. I love slow horses. Watched every single.
Kulap V. Lysack
Yeah, it's pretty great.
Sujin Pak
Yeah, it's that again, this is sort of very much in that realm and I'm always looking for this genre. So if you guys know of any. Any in the past that I've missed, please write it in the comments on our Instagram post.
Kulap V. Lysack
Wow. These are. These are.
Sujin Pak
This is.
Kulap V. Lysack
These are some hot tips. Some great tips.
Sujin Pak
Imagine what happens when you don't shop as much. Okay.
Kulap V. Lysack
There's a couple things I want to say.
Sujin Pak
Yeah.
Kulap V. Lysack
I commend you for Nusu who dis. And I think it's. It's really because of your daughter. I think you saw something in the monster that you created that really. It made you change the direction of your ship, if you will.
Sujin Pak
And that ship has sailed because I'm terrified of her. So I can't hold. And so I. Now you're right. Because when you said that, you know how that there's like a triangle bell of truth that sometimes rings.
Kulap V. Lysack
Ding.
Sujin Pak
It's at a Hertz that just reverberates. Yeah. Through your entire scalp. And. And it did it.
Kulap V. Lysack
A singing bowl, if you will.
Sujin Pak
It's a singing bowl. My singing bowl. Sung when you said that. Because this is the beast that I have created. Some would say nurture. I would say nature, because she was born this way.
Kulap V. Lysack
Well, she's a Taurus and we've already
Sujin Pak
established that she was born Shapin. And you're right.
Kulap V. Lysack
I think it's both nature and nurture. Yeah. And it's. It's.
Sujin Pak
She is on her way to becoming. What is that? Worm in the dune. Uh huh huh. Yeah. I can't.
Kulap V. Lysack
I don't have it right now, but I know and I see it and
Sujin Pak
I'm talking You know what I'm talking about. It's just all hole and mouth and it's an endless. It's an endless pit and you can just keep throwing, I mean, grown men, motorcycles, giant aircraft carriers. Like when you see the head towards the middle of the mouth of the worm, it's teeny tiny. It's just a pin. And that gives you the sense of scale.
Kulap V. Lysack
Yeah. Yes.
Sujin Pak
And so, yeah, that has again, the grasshopper becoming the teacher. I see myself and I. I don't like it.
Kulap V. Lysack

Episode: Set It and Forget It
Date: June 5, 2026
In this spirited episode of Add to Cart, Kulap Vilaysack and SuChin Pak reflect on the curveballs life throws at them and the “set it and forget it” philosophy that sometimes takes over in adulthood. The episode dives deep into feelings of stress and gratitude, personal grooming game-changers (think brows and lashes!), aspirational gifts, delicious local recommendations, budget-friendly reading tips, and media suggestions. With their signature blend of honesty, humor, and auntie energy, Kulap and SuChin take listeners through what’s in — and sometimes out — of their literal and metaphorical carts.
| Timestamp | Segment | | --- | --- | | 01:25 – 08:12 | SuChin’s year of chaos; spider trauma; parenting; “crage”; gratitude & gaslighting | | 12:03 – 22:31 | Kulap’s brow and lash journey: lamination, tinting, before/after, cost, photos | | 25:10 – 27:54 | Gift gatekeeping; Guerlain personalized lipstick; gifting as love language | | 28:01 – 35:17 | Local food recs: Cat’s Mac and Treats; Lao pop-up chef Tip (eatyumslut); birthday celebrations at home | | 38:07 – 49:50 | SuChin’s Add to Q: Book Outlet, Mercury Pictures Presents, Ray and Nick (YouTube), “Legends” (Netflix) | | 50:00 – 52:56 | Reflecting on raising “the beast”; acceptance of homebody tendencies; closing affirmations |
Throughout the episode, Kulap and SuChin lean into both the absurdity and beauty of modern life. They balance heartfelt vulnerability (injuries, stress, family quirks) with lighthearted product shilling, self-deprecating humor, and the pleasure of finding new hacks, gifts, and self-care rituals. Whether you’re a homebody, a beauty product lover, or just looking for your next bingeable series, this episode packs the recs — and heart — you’ve come to love from your favorite podcast aunties.
