And I think that made me realize just because you feel fine is not the same as being fine. But we're not here to freak anyone out. We're here to gently but firmly remind you that Function Health has got you.
Kulat Vilaisak
Listen. Most of us are familiar with the basic cholesterol check at our annual physical, but that's only a small part of the story. There are tests to count particles in your blood that can build up, there are genetic factors that can be tested for, and almost no doctor includes systemic inflammatory markers in an annual exam.
Sujin Pak
And this is where Function fills in those blanks. They offer 160 plus lab tests a year, including the cardiovascular markers that tell a more complete story about where your heart health actually stands. Because knowing what's actually going on inside your body is the first step to getting ahead of any health problems. Check your health the way I do. Kulat Vilaisak
Welcome to another episode of Add to cart. I'm your Auntie Cuckoo Vilaisak.
Sujin Pak
And I'm your other Auntie Susu park and. Yeah, it's just another episode. Listen, before we get into our episode, I do want to say, reminded me the last time we sat down is that you need to go to add to Cart World. It is our website. We are business owners. Small business owners. We are shantrepreneurs. What do they call them? Femtrepreneurs.
Kulat Vilaisak
What was the shanta part like? Shonda Rams.
Sujin Pak
Like she.
Kulat Vilaisak
And sorry.
Sujin Pak
We are small business owners.
Kulat Vilaisak
Yes.
Sujin Pak
You know, we're always cooking up something in the lab and the product, who knows when it'll be released. But we're working on things. So we want to make sure you're supporting us.
Kulat Vilaisak
And I mean, we're definitely thinking about working on things.
Sujin Pak
We are thinking about working on thinking about things.
Kulat Vilaisak
We ideate the way that we ideate.
Sujin Pak
Yes. What we do is we have a half hour brainstorm meeting, lots of ideas, and then we go back to our corners.
Kulat Vilaisak
That's right.
Sujin Pak
And we hibernate. And by hibernate, I mean out of
Kulat Vilaisak
sight, out of mind.
Sujin Pak
And then we come back. So what I'm saying. But I do have to say, while this process makes sense to no one, it has produced some pretty great things for us and for Carter's.
Kulat Vilaisak
And that's true.
Sujin Pak
We've done live shows.
Kulat Vilaisak
Remember that? We did that one live shows. We're not doing them again. And sure, we don't use the term said it and forget it correctly as it was made, but those words do apply to us.
Sujin Pak
So all to say, if you love us, you want to support us, put your little email. It costs you nothing. That's the other thing us aunties are all about.
Kulat Vilaisak
We don't want.
Sujin Pak
We're not asking you to put something down that's valuable. Just put your email down there on add to Cart World and you're going to be the first to know. Once we set it and forget it and remember it, you'll be the first to know and we appreciate it. Okay. So I just wanted to say that that's important. Done one of those.
Kulat Vilaisak
That's really important.
Sujin Pak
Okay, let's get into you. Let's go in. Should we get into your cart first?
Kulat Vilaisak
Great.
Sujin Pak
We left people last week on a cliffhanger. She cool op entered the world of auction items and it came out pretty strong. But you did hint that in the next episode, which is this episode, that you were gonna look a little askew, if you will. Your wig wasn't gonna be on straight for this ep, Am I correct? Yes.
Kulat Vilaisak
And I. These are sometimes I Enter fugue states and you such and pocket, I will rely on you and your experience in investigative reporting as to why. As to why, why, why have I done this, you know? And I will answer to my best abilities. But the answers, they're not gonna. They're really not gonna make a lot of sense.
Sujin Pak
No, it's ephemeral. It's a feeling. It's an in the moment thing that happened. It's a confluence of trauma, of our age, of all the things that make up who we are that get us to make some of these decisions in our life that don't make sense to anyone else.
Kulat Vilaisak
Okay, go ahead. So the site that I am auctioning at is called rlsphere. And it's essentially they're like a liquidation firm, businesses that are going out of business or wardrobe houses for the many studios that are nearby. They may need to get rid of a bunch of wardrobe, make room for other stuff. I've gotten into this maybe for at least a year, you know, and there have been many things that I've bid on and I thank to God I didn't win. Like, my first thing that I bid on was like, like a really, really large painting of the Golden Girls. Like, where was that gonna go?
Sujin Pak
Cool up.
Kulat Vilaisak
Like, it was huge, Huge. You could. I kind of go, okay, that's kind of funny. Like, you put it in your office or like in the bathroom. If it was like an 8 by 10, this was like. This was a method. Very big canvas. And thank God. And I probably bid on that like twice. It's just these things, you know, like, there's just what's happening, what's going on in the moment. Right, right, right in the moment. Okay, so this is the auction I'm going to talk about right now. Major motion picture studio costume wardrobe department sale.
Sujin Pak
Okay. Love it.
Kulat Vilaisak
And so things that you need to know about me before I describe how I bid in one two sacks of brooches. Two sacks. Okay. Of costume. It's a sort of vintage and miscellaneous costume brooches. Is that when I'm on Etsy, I am looking for brooches. You know that, Sue.
Sujin Pak
Oh, my God. It's probably the number one category that I have.
Kulat Vilaisak
I'm looking at brooches. I'm seeing what's available because I'm looking at this coot.
Sujin Pak
You've shown me a picture of what you bid on, and I'm not seeing crazy. So maybe I'm not the right person to. To judge. Continue.
Kulat Vilaisak
Okay, so look, I bid on just random custom brooches and I won for two. Two. Two lots. So two. Two sacks. That's what I received. Two sacks that were $137. 50.
Sujin Pak
Wait, for both sacks?
Kulat Vilaisak
No, each sack.
Sujin Pak
Okay, got it.
Kulat Vilaisak
But still each sack.
Sujin Pak
But each Sack. There's like 30 to 50 brooches in each sack.
Kulat Vilaisak
Easily, easily, easily. But yeah, what am I doing? But when I go all the way up to Culver City, that's in la Miles. Not a lot in LA time in quite a long time. Especially when I can't find the entrance and I have to go around twice to get there, and I find myself there and I'm given two sacks of brooches. And then cut to later when I'm laying out said brooches. And there's a lot of trash. There's a lot of trash. At least half, I think, are trash. And then here's a story that I told myself is that I'm gonna do a craft project with some on a lays. I'm gonna do some sort of crafting project, like, I'm gonna make for Christmas. I'm gonna make a brooch wreath with the discards. That's never going to happen. But as I lay out all of these many brooches, and there are some that I like, I was just like, I don't think this was worth it. Like, as I bought it, I was like, well, well, I mean, it would make sense if, like, I had, like, a thrift shop or like a Etsy shop myself, and then I could turn around.
Sujin Pak
I guess we're setting up an Etsy shop.
Kulat Vilaisak
What? No, I'm not. I'm never going to do that. I'm never gonna do that. I don't want to deal with shipping.
Sujin Pak
I know she's got two stacks of brooches.
Kulat Vilaisak
So I did take the time and I will show the photos and I divided them and I looked at them and I did a pass of things that I would keep or gift, which is this sack.
Sujin Pak
That's a lot.
Kulat Vilaisak
And then. Which I have will craft with. Yeah, this sack. And I mean, it's a lot. It's a lot.
Sujin Pak
Okay. And why did I do that?
Kulat Vilaisak
Sue, can you actually, this is why.
Sujin Pak
This is why. And because I've done this and everyone listening has done this at some point is what you've done is you've bought a dream. And the dream could be, I'm a baker now. I can bake that. That seems pretty easy. This person on this video makes it look so easy. I'm a DIY crafter. I'M I sure I could. Poshmark. These are dreams, and what you've bought is a dream. And God forbid that in this time that we should tap into the dreamer in all of us every once in a while. And you tapped into that. You tapped into this version, this whimsy of a DIY crafter, something cute coming
Kulat Vilaisak
out of somebody who owns a shop. And I, in my head was like, I'm competing against.
Sujin Pak
Yeah, you're competing against someone who. Shop owners. Real people who need to put milk and butter on the table.
Kulat Vilaisak
That's right. And I. And you and I.
Sujin Pak
That's right.
Kulat Vilaisak
I am a. A wolf in sheep's clothing.
Sujin Pak
That's great.
Kulat Vilaisak
I'm. And I'm neither.
Sujin Pak
This is. That's what this is.
Kulat Vilaisak
I got caught up in a fantasy.
Sujin Pak
I got caught up in a fantasy. And that's what you bought.
Kulat Vilaisak
It's look, part of me is like, there. There is enough brooches that I will wear that make one of the sacks worth it. And a lot of my friends are going to be receiving brooches. Your birthday is coming up. You don't think you're going to get at least two to three brooches, by the way.
Sujin Pak
Receiving them with joy. Receiving them with joy.
Kulat Vilaisak
But there was just this moment as I sat on the ground and I surveyed all of these brooches and, well,
Sujin Pak
that's the part of, you know, you buy into a dream and then you have to deal with the reality of what. What life did is. Which is not a dream.
Kulat Vilaisak
So let's move on.
Sujin Pak
Okay. Okay. I'm now seeing the photo of what's coming. And I see that the brooches were what we call an amuse bouche. That was like, I don't know. I could see myself doing that. Here is where I love you and I leave you.
Kulat Vilaisak
This is where, much like that famous poem, where the roads diverge.
Sujin Pak
That's right. Three kisses. Bisou, Bisou. I will see you at the next stop. This is where you have completely lost me. Please tell the audience what you bid on. And would you bid on. And I assume you had to get your ass to wherever to pick these up.
Kulat Vilaisak
Same place.
Sujin Pak
Okay. Culver said. What did you bid on?
Kulat Vilaisak
Well, okay, so I bid on this. And I. And I lost it. And I'm kind of. Which is crazy about this one.
Sujin Pak
God, you lost it.
Kulat Vilaisak
No, wait. I'm sad about losing it.
Sujin Pak
Okay. Again. Wow. Road diverged once more.
Kulat Vilaisak
A one piece gingerbread walk around character costume.
Sujin Pak
Oh, my Lord.
Kulat Vilaisak
And of course, that does make sense. For my lifestyle.
Sujin Pak
Who's. Scott's not wearing that.
Kulat Vilaisak
No, but what if it was like some sort of penalty during the Jamie Aukerman Reindeer Games or it was part of the Reindeer Games where one person has to wear it the entire day?
Sujin Pak
Right, right, right, right, right, right, right. That's a good one.
Kulat Vilaisak
Possibly, possibly. But then what did I win? I won. What did I win?
Sujin Pak
And now this is.
Kulat Vilaisak
Here's what's so sad about the brooches. Now, these brooches were mindful purchases where I like, for weeks. I was like, I'm gonna. This is cool. These are brooches. And it was mindful.
Sujin Pak
And I was like, this is thinking about it.
Kulat Vilaisak
I thought about it. Now, as this auction was winding down, I just decided to do a last minute scan of things that I could possibly get. So what? I won? What I'm about to tell you I won.
Sujin Pak
So she lost the gingerbread full size human size costume at the last minute. Okay. Some other crazy, crazy person got that?
Kulat Vilaisak
Yes. These two things are their impulse purchases, I would say.
Sujin Pak
I certainly hope so, because if this has been your Roman Empire, then I. I would be concerned. You won.
Kulat Vilaisak
Can I just preface.
Sujin Pak
Please do. Because my daughter's favorite.
Kulat Vilaisak
My daughter's favorite animals are elephants and pink pigs.
Sujin Pak
Okay, okay. Because of the books.
Kulat Vilaisak
But even she likes those books. But she also, like, if we're at the zoo or these experiences, this is what she likes. Okay. So that could be in part where this insanity was seeded. I'm not saying it's her fault. I'm just saying I'm giving you context.
Sujin Pak
Okay.
Kulat Vilaisak
I bid and won a four piece piggy walk around character costume. Four pieces, you say? Yeah. A head, a set of shoes, set of gloves, and a jumpsuit. Okay, I got it for $38.89, which, when you see the size of this thing, is actually kind of a deal.
Sujin Pak
Wait, so someone has to go in this?
Kulat Vilaisak
Obviously, yeah, someone has to go in this and.
Sujin Pak
Wait, the shoes are. What are the shoes?
Kulat Vilaisak
The shoes just. I mean, it looks like this piggy can play basketball.
Sujin Pak
He's sort of wearing like a green velour sneaker. Okay, sorry. I digress.
Kulat Vilaisak
Now, the two people that have seen it had the very same reaction. And their reaction was, wow, have you lost your mind? They simply. It is in it no malice. It is almost just why? Why? And then when I sort of dance and explain. Emmy, Emmy likes pink pigs. They're all both like, well, I hope she likes them for a while.
Sujin Pak
But, like, what were you thinking? You were going to like, is this for her birthday?
Kulat Vilaisak
That's an idea. She goes crazy for mascots and for, like, if we're character, like, Disney characters that you can take pictures with. Like, she goes nuts for that. So, yeah, that's also in my.
Sujin Pak
It's just also like, this. This pig is not like a. It's not a pig. Okay, so the gingerbread. You're like, the gingerbread man can. Or it's Christmas, or there's. There's like a cultural reference to it. This pig is. I'm not sure, like, where this pig is from. Like, it could be a pig from, like, will blow your house down. But the pig is wearing brown velour basketball shorts and green velour basketball shoes. I feel that it's a teen.
Kulat Vilaisak
It's a teen. It's a teen pig. No shirt.
Sujin Pak
It's a teen pig.
Kulat Vilaisak
It's a teen pig. Or maybe it's. It's a. The uncle that lives with you.
Sujin Pak
But that's not. That's not a thing.
Kulat Vilaisak
Okay, Susan, let me take down the mask real quick. Okay. When I went to Culver City and they handed me a box with this pig's head, the feeling of shame and like, just like, what are you doing?
Sujin Pak
Cool up.
Kulat Vilaisak
What led you here? What led you here? That you have this, like, where are you putting this? Where are you putting this? Are you gonna get it out?
Sujin Pak
Yes.
Kulat Vilaisak
I'm like. And I'm having to push this, like, cart to my car with. With this. This, like, this head. This head and two sacks of garbage. Brooches. Like, what?
Sujin Pak
Why? Why'd you do this?
Kulat Vilaisak
Why?
Sujin Pak
Why?
Kulat Vilaisak
And then having to, like, try to sell it to other people and them saying, why? Back at me. It's not great,
Sujin Pak
this one. Unfortunately, you're gonna just have to. You know how sometimes you buy something and you're like, okay, this was. This is gonna take some creative rethinking. And it sits in your closet for a minute, and you're like, what am I going to do with a, you know, a floor length lace dress?
Kulat Vilaisak
Yeah, it's like that. Except this is a pig costume.
Sujin Pak
You just want to do, like, a reset, which is you get a big garbage bag, you put that in there, and you drop it off at the Salvation army and you never, ever remember it again.
Kulat Vilaisak
No, I gotta wear it. Show the.
Sujin Pak
No, you can't.
Kulat Vilaisak
Wait, why? You have to clean it.
Sujin Pak
You have to pay to clean it.
Kulat Vilaisak
Okay, here's the thing. The other thing I want to say is that I put it on and I put it on once. The head.
Sujin Pak
Oh, no.
Kulat Vilaisak
And there's a video. It doesn't stay up very well. Like, you have to hold it. Like, it falls off.
Sujin Pak
As we mentioned before, this is a naked. What we think could be an adolescent male pig costume with basketball shorts. And she's. You're going to have to dress this pig up because what is she gonna
Kulat Vilaisak
be like, hey, happy birthday, Emmy.
Sujin Pak
I'm adolescent pig wearing basketball pickup, putting shorts on.
Kulat Vilaisak
It really, like, makes the top nudity clear. Where there was no shorts, then you could just kind of go, it's just a smooth, androgynous pig. Yeah.
Sponsor/Ad Voice
Wait.
Kulat Vilaisak
It's like.
Sujin Pak
It's like a natural history museum pig.
Kulat Vilaisak
Like, it's so realistic, but you have to.
Sujin Pak
Now you have to put brooches on it. And it's gonna have to be antique pig. Or you can dress it up and it can be grandma pig, but you gotta put more work. You gotta clean it. And then you got to.
Kulat Vilaisak
You gotta jush it. I've shoved it in a closet. Yeah. I've shoved it in the guest closet.
Sujin Pak
Yeah. That sometimes I. I have been known. I can. You know, when I make those mistakes, I literally open the box, don't even take it out, put it back in the trunk of my car, where I have a box of donations that's always constantly being filled. And then it's as if it never happened. Like, it. And for me, it has to happen very quickly. Like, I can't even bring it into the house.
Kulat Vilaisak
Just want to show you some. Just some photos. This was.
Sujin Pak
I mean, I knew that's what you had to walk. Everyone is being like, that's the woman that bought the Adam's naked pig.
Kulat Vilaisak
It's just. It's just.
Sujin Pak
You guys, these photos are gonna go up on our Instagram. It's hard to understand the gravity of what the heck of her mistake until you actually see what. Oh, no, the head doesn't even stay on. It does not stay on what she's done. And so we'll post this photo and these fit this video up. And it is. It is a reckoning.
Kulat Vilaisak
It's a reckoning.
Sujin Pak
It's a reckoning. It's a reckoning. I mean, and we've all been there. We've all been there.
Kulat Vilaisak
Yeah. Because even if I wanna. I'm a member of SAG AFTRA and a performer, I am able to do physical comedy. And even if I were to take on the Persona of a teen pig, a teen pig is gonna want to, especially with basketball shorts and tennis shoes, gonna want to jump around and you know, really? Like really, you know, because the head will fall. You can't be BO pops off.
Sujin Pak
So yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Kulat Vilaisak
Let's take a break and we'll be back with Suchin's card. If like us, gifting is your love language, then stop blindly picking out wines at the supermarket and hoping for the best. First Leaf is going to match the gifting queen energy that you are bringing to every occasion.
Sujin Pak
Ku, you know what I did this year to thank all of my daughter's teachers, right? These teachers working so hard, so hard. I got a box of six curated white wines. You know, I answered a bunch of questions about how sweet or dry I wanted them, what flavor profiles. I mean, everything from vanilla to fruity to nutty. It was so fun. And then bam. Delivered to my door and handed out to the teachers, right? That's what they want. They want a crisp glass of wine after a hard year's work.
Kulat Vilaisak
I hope you gave them each six.
Sujin Pak
That would be great.
Kulat Vilaisak
That's what they deserved.
Sujin Pak
Yes, they actually did deserve that.
Kulat Vilaisak
You're right.
Sujin Pak
Next year. Next year. Mental note.
Kulat Vilaisak

Sujin Pak
And that's anti math. And plus, summer is all about getting dressed right? And it's two words. Easy, breezy. You want simple, classy and sweat free options.
Kulat Vilaisak

Kulat Vilaisak
Oh, Suchin, if I could tell you all that I've been doing. If you could know all the bedding, you brought up European linen. Yeah, I know. Let me throw. I also got some bamboo sheets for Emmy. Okay. Kulat Vilaisak
I just, I.
Sujin Pak
It's been a while since I've made a doozy like that and I was
Kulat Vilaisak
like, oh, God, this is. Oh, I really.
Sujin Pak
I mean, the good news, you didn't spend. I mean, it was, you know, an insignificant amount of money, but so that's the good news. It's not like you bought. You know what I mean? Like, we're talking hundreds. Which is why for me, for me, when I make those kinds of mistakes, it like doesn't even. It just. It's like a. It's like a revolving door. It doesn't even come in. It just swings right back out again. And because I don't want to. I don't want to think about it. I don't want to address it.
Kulat Vilaisak
It's just funny because my instinct is, because of my immigrant status is that I will figure out how to make the most use of it.
Sujin Pak
Of course you're going to use it. Yeah. And you're going to spend. You're going to put good money after bad. You're going to do an event, and it's gonna be a luau.
Kulat Vilaisak
Yeah.
Sujin Pak
And you're gonna put a lei around it and a grass skirt. And you're gonna get a private chef to bring a. A pork. A pig to roast on a pit.
Kulat Vilaisak
Yes. Yeah.
Sujin Pak
And you're gonna have a summer luau.
Kulat Vilaisak
Yeah.
Sujin Pak
And everyone's gonna be like, whoa, my God. That's crazy. She hired somebody.
Kulat Vilaisak
Oh, my God.
Sujin Pak
There's a pig walking around passing out appetizers.
Kulat Vilaisak
No, he can't. The head will fall off. He's gonna have to sit still. Okay,
Sujin Pak
there's a pig sitting. An adolescent pig. Let's have naked sitting still.
Sponsor/Ad Voice
Oh, my God.
Sujin Pak
The food is delicious. But what was up with that adolescent half naked pig guy? What was that? I guess. I guess I kind of get it. You know, it was like a lua. And you're gonna.
Kulat Vilaisak
You can.
Sujin Pak
And you are. Your head held high. You aren't even head held high.
Kulat Vilaisak
Like, look. Yeah, guys, I want to tell you, the pigs on the payroll. The pigs on the payroll. From now until the end of time, the pigs on the payroll.
Sujin Pak
This is like, when I make those mistakes and I have to live with them. And then for like 10 years, I'm wearing, you know, whatever a junior Amazon sweats for boys, and I'm like, yeah. And.
Kulat Vilaisak
Yeah.
Sujin Pak
Yeah. And I like it like that. That's how it is. It's fashion. I like it. I like it riding a little bit high. It's like a Capri. But it's not like you're going to be that way with the pig.
Kulat Vilaisak
I pooped and I'm shoving my face in it. Yeah, shoving. Then this is how I'll learn.
Sujin Pak
Yeah.
Kulat Vilaisak
Soojin, what's in your cart?
Sujin Pak
Oh, God, I don't even. Do we care about my cart? My cart is so, so benign.
Kulat Vilaisak
Remember when I showed up and I scared the living daylights out of Mike Bender to the point where he had to touch grass and ground himself after I left? I am going to scare him with it. I'm gonna roll up.
Sujin Pak
Yeah, well, you can't move very much. You'll just have to stand could. Because the head will pop.
Kulat Vilaisak
Let me ask you this. Can you get me into the rv?
Sujin Pak
And then, I mean, I can get you in, but you sweating in that velour suit with the head bopping in and out. I wouldn't do that.
Kulat Vilaisak
When you get me in the rv, I'll wait there headless. Then you sound an air horn. Then I know
Sujin Pak
you Shove him inside.
Kulat Vilaisak
When the crow.
Sujin Pak
Crow flies north betwixt the. Betwixt the moon. Then you put the pig's head on for four seconds before it pops off again. No. I will not do such a thing to you or my husband.
Kulat Vilaisak
Damn it. Damn it. All right, well, let's not. She's still thinking completely to bed.
Sujin Pak
She's not those. Her eyes are fully activated.
Kulat Vilaisak
She.
Sujin Pak
Her. She's still in brainstorming. She has not given this up.
Kulat Vilaisak
I, along with tall Joan Schrader and Paul Scheer, do various pranks.
Sujin Pak
Yes, yes.
Kulat Vilaisak
This will go in my prank kit.
Sujin Pak
Yeah, but you just want to know that the prank has to include a headless pig.
Kulat Vilaisak
Yeah, right, right, right, right. Yeah.
Sujin Pak
It has to be some sort of a thing where it's like a bloody murder of a pig and the head rolls off. Yeah, sure, if you want to. Now put good money after bad, drag in seven grown men. Adults into this mistake you've made, of course, to hide this shame. Do it. What else are they good for?
Kulat Vilaisak
Violent. It's violent, what I'm doing. Much like when we set up. We set up a buddy, the elf, on Rob Huebel's front yard.
Sujin Pak
Yeah.
Kulat Vilaisak
Now, we will do a variation of that with a headless. Maybe. Maybe I'll hold the pig, she will wear the outfit. I'll put the head on, she will wear the bottom costume.
Sujin Pak
Yeah.
Kulat Vilaisak
And we'll coordinate something.
Sujin Pak
Right? Yeah. Or you can just keep going back to the auction and look for two other pigs so that you can be the three pigs.
Kulat Vilaisak
Great. Christmas pigs.
Sujin Pak
Yeah. Yeah. Christmas pigs.
Kulat Vilaisak
Just keep.
Sujin Pak
Just keep thinking. Just. I see the light in your eyes. It's still bright. None of it is out. She is in full brainstorming mode on how to make this pig on her payroll justify his living expenses.
Kulat Vilaisak
The space. The space that he's taking. That's what I mean. In my life. Yeah.
Sujin Pak
Very coveted, expensive real estate. Square footage. It's a lot, that home.
Kulat Vilaisak
So I will force it to bring me joy. Do you understand?
Sujin Pak
Of course.
Kulat Vilaisak
I know I am. Everybody knows Marie Kondo.
Sujin Pak
Violence. There will be violence.
Kulat Vilaisak
Sue, enough about me and my pig. What about you?
Sujin Pak
I mean, this is. It's hard to follow that. Do we even wanna get into this card? I guess. Okay.
Kulat Vilaisak
I do. I do.
Sujin Pak
So I have been on the past three months. I've been now to Palm Springs three times, and I have not been to Palm Springs in many years. I used to love going there for some reason.
Kulat Vilaisak
It just.
Sujin Pak
It happened to be. And I have fallen in love with the City again. Now the thought of Palm Springs in July for most people is a no go. In fact, half the city is closed. It's so hot.
Kulat Vilaisak
We're triple digits.
Sujin Pak
Yeah, I, and, and, and I get that. And yet that is also a version of Palm Springs that I love. I don't like going to Palm Springs. And it's cold to me. Palm Springs, you should fry an egg on a sidewalk. The hot desert wind should dry your eyes out. It should not be safe to go out before noon. I like dipping into that, into weather. You know, being from California in, you know, this is our California city.
Kulat Vilaisak
Yes. You're going skiing.
Sujin Pak
That's right.
Kulat Vilaisak
In the winter. And you can go to Palm Springs.
Sujin Pak
Yeah. In the desert in the summer. Now what I was like, oh, I've been here now three times. I thought I would just give you a two, three day max itinerary. And this is an itinerary for non hikers. It is itinerary potentially for families. And it is an itinerary for lazy people who like to drink matcha and sit in bodies of water.
Kulat Vilaisak
So a Suchin Pok special.
Sujin Pak
Yeah. So the first thing you're going to do is you're going to get in your car and you're going to put in your navigation system outlets.
Kulat Vilaisak
We're talking cabazon.
Sujin Pak
We're talking desert hells Premium. Yeah, there's. Because there's two outlets there. So you want to go to the premium outlet. Are they side by side?
Kulat Vilaisak
They are side by side.
Sujin Pak
Okay. So you want to go to the premium side. You just go straight there.
Kulat Vilaisak
There's Gucci, there's Prada. Prada.
Sujin Pak
There's Loewe. There's all the premium.
Kulat Vilaisak
Yeah.
Sujin Pak
Givenchy. They're all there. Now are outlets a scam? Yes. Is this outlet still worth it? I think so.
Kulat Vilaisak
Last time I was there, I think in April, I got a deal at Stuart Weitzman.
Sujin Pak
I got so some. Yeah. There still can be deals.
Kulat Vilaisak
I got a pair of amazing boots for like $150.
Sujin Pak
There are those, but most of it is just expensive designer shit. But it's all in a mall setting and you go from store to store and it's lovely to browse. And it's lovely if you have that budget to shop. And it's worth it. And you're gonna, you know, start off early, so your room isn't ready. So that's where you go first. A quick hour or two there, tops. And then you stay at the Drift Hotel. You're gonna love this hotel.
Sponsor/Ad Voice
Koo.
Kulat Vilaisak
I'M not familiar.
Sujin Pak
Yes, it is a newish hotel. It is beautifully designed forward. It's very, like, desert chic. They're all apartments with full kitchens.
Kulat Vilaisak
Wow.
Sujin Pak
And they're all bedrooms. So you can get one bedroom, two bedrooms, up to four bedrooms, really.
Kulat Vilaisak
I think there's also one in Santa
Sujin Pak
Barbara too, but it's not the same. They don't have, like, a kitchen.
Kulat Vilaisak
Got it.
Sujin Pak
Like, the Drift in Palm Springs is. It's so great. And it's like one of those hotels where, like, you get a text and then they're like, this is the code to your room. If you needed someone, I think you could call or text. There isn't necessarily a lobby. There's a really nice restaurant there that's open for dinner, but other than that, it's like, pretty much like they just leave you alone. And it's a gorgeous hotel.
Kulat Vilaisak
They have a little pool.
Sujin Pak
Yeah.
Kulat Vilaisak
I'm looking at the site.
Sujin Pak
It looks.
Kulat Vilaisak
The pool looks fantastic.
Sujin Pak
This is great for families. This is great for a girls trip.
Kulat Vilaisak
Bachelorettes. Yeah.
Sujin Pak
You're not gonna get, like Four Seasons, poolside lobster, but you're gonna get a gorgeous four bedroom, you know, hotel room.
Kulat Vilaisak
They're saying it's equal parts home and hotel, and that's what it looks like.
Sujin Pak
Yeah. So that's the place that we stay whenever we go.
Kulat Vilaisak
Okay. This is a find. I think it's great. Mm.
Sujin Pak
And, like, you know, for us, and especially for you, because it's quite a drive for me. But for you, you know, it can be a weekend, you know, and you're there and you're staying at this nice hotel. Sure, it's hot, but then you're in the water most of the time.
Kulat Vilaisak
Yeah.
Sujin Pak
And then, you know, with little kids, like, it's not like you. You have to be out that much. So anyway, so the Drift Hotel is fantastic. And then I'm. I'll put these links down. These are the. There's so many great restaurants. These are the three restaurants that I eat at all the time. There's a tiny hole in the wall in a strip mall called Palm Greens Cafe that's just got really healthy salads. And, you know, if you're a vegan or vegetarian, they have tons of that. They have Sherman's Deli, which, where I'm coming from in Santa Barbara, there's not a Jewish deli for miles, which is bizarre to me. So I can get my Jewish deli New York style fixed. And then there's a fantastic sort of Asian fusion restaurant called Rooster and the Pig. And the rooster and the pig is. You can walk there from the Drift Hotel. So I will put those links up so you can have access to that. And then they've got this new like matcha coffee shop called Mintosa.
Kulat Vilaisak
Okay.
Sujin Pak
And outside of Japan, it is hands down the best matcha I've ever had, which is bizarre. In the middle of Palm Springs. It's a very strange thing to say. And then the best thing is, is this coffee shop is attached to this place called the Mojave Flea Trading Post, which is a giant warehouse, multi brand indie, a lot of it indie.
Kulat Vilaisak
I'm like shopping Goosebumps.
Sujin Pak
Gorgeous shopping. And they've got everything from like vintage in there to like, I don't even know, like little brands to handmade. It also in there is like this crazy Japanese, what do you call it, like, stationary section. It's just like, what? Very well curated. Wow. So you get your matcha, you shop around and then if you want to do vintage, obviously Palm Springs is known for that. So I'm only going to give you one recommendation that I love. And it's this place called Melody Note Vintage. And she's just like an institution there. It's a small shop, but the prices are super reasonable and. And she's a great resource. So like the last time we were there she. We were shopping and we were like, oh, where, where should we go next? And she was like, I'm going to give you the tea. There's a place down the road, they're retiring. And so the entire place is 60% off at this point. And so you bet your bottom dollar we scooted on over there. I bought two gorgeous pieces of art. I know, Framed.
Kulat Vilaisak
Will you take photos?
Sujin Pak
I will take photos and I will send them to you. Fantastic. So cheap.
Kulat Vilaisak
God, these are. I mean, this is, this is. Oh, God. This is you being in the foot of a mountain in Italy. This is me getting stools from an auction site. It's just like when things. I'm really sorry that businesses close, but when you're at the right place at the right time, it feels so nice.
Sujin Pak
There was one piece of art I was like, you know, because I knew I was coming back and I just didn't quite make it there because they're all different trips I'm taking, which was kind of cool. I took a girlfriend trip. We did a lot of shopping. I took a mic trip. We did no shopping. And then by the time this comes out, I will have taken a kids trip and I'll tell you about that. So then When Mike and I went, he's all about the mineral soaks. Have you done mineral soaks there? Like, there's, like, Two Bunch Palms, which is a really nice place. Like, there's. There's a lot of places. And so we were just doing day passes, and so I've stayed at Two Bunch Palms, and it's fantastic. But they were all booked for day passes, and so we went to a few. This was the one during the trip that I liked the most, but there could be others. But this was a fantastic one. It's called Azure Palm Springs Resort, and it's $70 for the day pass. And it has, like, big grounds, and so you can get, like, little individual soaking tubs for you and a friend, and that probably fit comfortably. Three to four, tops, people, you know, and then they've got the big pool in the middle, and then they've got all these different hot soaks. And then they've got a Himalayan salt room. They have a fantastic restaurant on site, a cafe, Got great lunch there. Like, these are all things that, like, I wanted because we went to a place that was really nice but didn't have a restaurant. And so, like, halfway through, I was like, I gotta leave. I'm starving. So this one was the one I would recommend. But again, if you have the chance to go to Twentynine Palms, that's also fantastic. But anyway, so that's a great thing to do if you're just an adults only. And the mineral tubs, I mean, we are big mineral soakers. So, like, your skin just feels amazing. Like, it's so healing. It's just. It's. I. I love it. I mean, I'm Korean. This is. It was just a giant.
Kulat Vilaisak
So this is why people gym.
Sujin Pak
Korean. Yeah. Yeah. That's what Mike was like. So we went to the first place, which was nice. And then way out, he was like, tomorrow, we're going. Let's try another spot. And he went in and did the tour. He came out, he was like, jim. Jim Bong.
Kulat Vilaisak
Yeah.
Sujin Pak
So I was like, okay, we'll come here tomorrow. And it was great. Now, the best discovery with the kids. So if you have an active kid and it's 110 degrees, you know, Palm Springs doesn't sound fun, but it does if you're at the surf club.
Kulat Vilaisak
I didn't know that there was a surf club.
Sujin Pak
Thank you very much. Neither did I. And it's a. It's.
Kulat Vilaisak
Thank God. I know. He couldn't go to that Hawaii trip with his cousins.
Sujin Pak
He did go, but he didn't surf. Oh, so it was.
Kulat Vilaisak
I mean, as he said.
Sujin Pak
I know, I know. I'm like, but you'll be in Hawaii, not surfing. Is that worse? I don't know. So this is called the Surf Club in Palm Springs. And it. Let me tell you, if you've been to, like, Great Wolf. Don't, don't. I'm telling you, you would hate it. But it's like most water slide places that you take your kids to. It's pretty disgusting, but you just, like, do it because your kids are like, they are in heaven. They just love it so much. This place. Whoever designed it. Thank you. Has to be a parent. It is a good, gorgeously chic designed water slide park. It has a lazy river. It has this very beautiful restaurant that overlooks everything. So you could just be having a cocktail or a salad and then watching your kids play. There's a lazy river that goes around. There's water slides, and then they have a wave machine where you can surf. This is so great, Sue.
Kulat Vilaisak
Like this. This is such a great travel. Because the only thing that you've brought up to me that I was aware of was Sherman's Deli, because it's pretty famous. You know, I've had. I've had brunch there, but everything else is, like, brand new.
Sujin Pak
Yeah, no, I'm.
Kulat Vilaisak
I don't know. I mean, yeah. And I've been. I can't tell you how many times I've been to Palm Springs.
Sujin Pak
And no, I know I haven't been there in years. I have. I haven't been before this. I hadn't been in years. I went with my friend Diana and I was like, okay. I guess the. You know, because Mike and I had a few days while the kids were in Hawaii, and we're like, where should we go? And he wanted to be out in the desert and do mineral springs. I was like, palm Springs. So then we did that. That version of it. Then we heard. I saw this surf thing and we went. Mike and I went just to go check it out. And I was like, this is gorgeous. I think they're four years open, but it feels like they opened yesterday. Brand new facilities, spanking clean. And. And like, how many water slide park things, hotels have we been in where I'm like, again, you're like, let's just pretend.
Kulat Vilaisak
Oh, yeah.
Sujin Pak
Like raising waters of the places. No, this is like five star hotel level. You know, facilities, like, everything is clean.
Kulat Vilaisak
I mean, and it's. I don't think I've ever seen a Surfing waveform pool before? No, I'm trying to think. I mean, I'm like, of course it exists.
Sujin Pak
No, it exists, but very rare. It's not common. Yeah, you can book to your level. They even, by the way, for 20 bucks, you can just boogie board.
Kulat Vilaisak
That's so crazy.
Sujin Pak
And then on top of it, we did a instructor because, I mean, my kids surf, so it's kind of like I was a friend of mine who has like a baseball kid was like, oh, it's like batting cages. Like you have to get an instructor because like, you're never going to catch that many waves in an hour and have someone really correct your technique. So if you have a surfer or you ever wanted to surf, they. That's all available. I'm just saying that, like, if it's a hundred ten degree boiling hot, but it's dry heat and you're in water, you don't notice it.
Kulat Vilaisak
No.
Sujin Pak
As you would think. Springs to me, that's, to me, that's what I'm saying. To me, I'm a summer Palm Springs gal now. The downside is, but to me it's an upside. Is, is the, the city's empty because it's their low season. Well, that's perfect for the city is closed. So for me, like when we went to the, the surf club, there were maybe five families there.
Kulat Vilaisak
Wow.
Sujin Pak
And the entire facility.
Kulat Vilaisak
That's nice.
Sujin Pak
What I'm saying is don't put it out of reach. Like, don't be intimidated by the heat. There's just so much more to do there. I mean, it just obviously it's, you know, people keep opening new stuff, but I just was thinking about you and I was like, this is it May, maybe like mid July is too hot for Emmy, but like a May, a June, like, it's gorgeous morning time is, is chill and, and you know what's really fun is like, what I love about the desert is that. Or just somewhere, anywhere hot. It's like after dinner you're like, go swimming. And the kids are like, What? Yeah, it's 9 o'.
Kulat Vilaisak
Clock.
Sujin Pak
You're like, yeah, let's go swimming. It's 100 degrees out. I don't know. There's just. To me, it's like dipping into extreme weather like that. It's fun.
Kulat Vilaisak
Yes.
Sujin Pak
Even if it's like, you're not, like I said, you're not hiking in this weather. No, no, no, you're not.
Kulat Vilaisak
And sue, you're not hiking in any weather. I don't know what we're talking about.
Sujin Pak
Here I was talking about other people. I've heard you'll I've heard you'll walk people do this. I'll shop. You'll sure you'll walking involved in that. I consider that steps I still turn on my pedometer when I'm going around the Mojave Flea trading post again.
Kulat Vilaisak
God, I'm really excited about that. That is so good.
Sujin Pak
I'm so excited about that so that I yeah I thought I would bring you guys sort of like Palm Springs newish. Maybe you haven't been in a while list.
Kulat Vilaisak
Yeah it's pretty great.

This is going to be a fun IG post that I'm going to make. I think suchin's Palm Springs. Suchin does Palm Springs.
Sujin Pak
If we have room after all the pig slides. And I need two posts and we need all the pig slides and the video of the head. Because you can't really get the full scope of it.
Kulat Vilaisak
You really can't? No, I certainly didn't till I got it and was just, just, you know, like, I know what you did last summer. You know what I mean? I was like looking at it like there's cause and effect. These were my actions.
Sujin Pak
This is how I started to get into. And pretty unsuccessfully, but I'm still doing it and buying it. Clothing dye, you know, you like, you get something at a vintage shop. I do a lot of vintage shopping online now. And you get it and you're like, huh, that color is not anything I can work with. Guess what? Dye it and have you have it. Okay, I have, I have. I've dyed it. Because what I will the fantasy I have is white shirt, butter yellow pants. You know what I'm talking about? Just like an easy breezy mom that doesn't have olive oil, avocado oil stains all over her and is sometimes tracking urine. It's like a linen pant, light colored pant. Like a poplin shirt that's not gonna get avocado.
Kulat Vilaisak
Helps with the urine covering. So that's good that you still.
Sujin Pak
And so then I'll get it. And I'm like, I'm never going to wear this. And so I bought like a set that's like a crisp white poplin, like kind of pajama Y, but like you could wear out. And it had like red piping. And I said, absolutely not. And so then I dyed it and it's cute. It's fine.
Kulat Vilaisak
Okay, I'm gonna need the photo. I need the photo.
Sujin Pak
It's fine, it's fine.
Kulat Vilaisak
It. What did you dye to? What color?
Sujin Pak
Well, I got an indigo dye, obviously. And so then, and then I bought. Okay. So while I was in Palm Springs, I went to a vintage shop and I bought a pair and I was like, oh, yeah. I mean, of course. And they were just like the brightest, tealiest turquoise pant.
Kulat Vilaisak
Okay. No, how do you dye that though? It's so dark.
Sujin Pak
I don't know. So I bought more indigo dye and I'll let you know. But by the way, the indigo dye thing, I mean, it's fine. Again, you and I, like, we have dye of being like DIYers. And so I've seen all the videos. I've been there. And I'm like, it's never it's never easy.
Kulat Vilaisak
Oh, you always have to do it multiple times.
Sujin Pak
And there's dye everywhere on every day.
Kulat Vilaisak
I mean, this is when you were talking last episode about manic panic.
Sujin Pak
It is everywhere. And like it's a multi step process, but you know, again, the alternative is to live with the shame. And do you know what that is sometimes called in psychology? It's called the ego death. And I'm not interested in dying. I'm interested in living. And so then I buy the Indigo fucking rit dye and I try to undo the mistake that I made in the heat of the moment thinking I was someone I was not.
Kulat Vilaisak
Okay, so dying clothing is your dying pig costume. I see. I see.
Sujin Pak
Now we all have our. We all have a pig in the closet.
Kulat Vilaisak
We all have a pig in the closet.
Sujin Pak
We'll have a pig head in the closet.
Kulat Vilaisak
Don't you on the payroll?
Sujin Pak
Do you, don't you fucking think, hey listeners, for a minute that you listening right now. Don't have a pig head in your closet. In the. Fuck you don't.
Kulat Vilaisak

Kulat Vilaisak

Kulat Vilaisak
Is it a pig?
Sujin Pak

Kulat Vilaisak
Is it a pig?
Sujin Pak

Kulat Vilaisak

Sujin Pak
Is it German sleeping pills?
Kulat Vilaisak

Sujin Pak
What is it? What is your pig head?
Kulat Vilaisak
What is it?
Sujin Pak
We've shown you what our pig head is. You sat here and I know that for our hardcore as you come back week again and again and again every week because you know what your pig head is.
Kulat Vilaisak
Yeah.
Sujin Pak
And it makes you feel like you are in community.
Kulat Vilaisak
This feels very Lord of the Flies, doesn't it?
Sujin Pak
Oh, are you still brainstorming? Because that sounds like another justification for that fucking costume. You're gonna have a Lord of the Flies costume party, obviously. October.
Kulat Vilaisak
Who wouldn't want to come to a Lord of the Flies dinner party at my house?
Sujin Pak
At the end I'll say, kill the pig. Kill the piggy. And then you come out in an adolescent half nude pig costume.
Kulat Vilaisak
Everyone's like, wait, look.
Sujin Pak
Cue space jam.
Kulat Vilaisak
Everybody get up. It's time to slam. Now.
Sujin Pak
They're like, wait, that's not the Lord of the Flies.
Kulat Vilaisak
Huh? And you.
Sujin Pak
And when that head pops off in two seconds, you look everyone in the eye. Everybody chin up. I dare you.
Kulat Vilaisak
I stand by this purchase.
Sujin Pak
I dare you to tell me that this isn't the right pig for this pig party. I dare you ball sheer. To tell me that this adolescent pig is not the right pig for this pig party.
Kulat Vilaisak
He's the only one I know will be on my side.
Sujin Pak
10,000 Hallmark cards. That's his pig.
Kulat Vilaisak
June is just like, cool up.
Sujin Pak
Does she have a pig? I feel like she's the only one maybe, that we've encountered that may not have a pig's head. Does she have a pig's head?
Kulat Vilaisak
What is it like?
Sujin Pak
Does she have.
Kulat Vilaisak
What's her stiletto.
Sujin Pak
Stiletto heels?
Kulat Vilaisak
I mean, is it. Is it simply mascara and her lack of removing it? Her layers of mascara. It might be her layers of mascara. She's very. She's a lady. She's a lady.
Sujin Pak
I mean, everyone that we've had on, I could name what their pig's head is, but she's. She's stumping.
Kulat Vilaisak
She has a pig's head.
Sujin Pak
Yeah.
Kulat Vilaisak
Casey has a pig's head for sure.
Sujin Pak
So many. Yeah.
Kulat Vilaisak
So many pigs.
Sujin Pak
So many pigs lately.
Kulat Vilaisak
Stickers. A lot of stickers lately.
Sujin Pak
Count. That would count in the volume that she's buying yet.
Kulat Vilaisak
I'm sure she got me this sticker that says,
Sujin Pak
oh, my God, full circle.
Kulat Vilaisak
Which is the sound you're gonna make.
Sujin Pak
Yeah.
Kulat Vilaisak
When you help me scare your husband.
Sujin Pak
Oh, my God.

Episode Title: Pig On The Payroll
Release Date: July 17, 2026
Hosts: Kulap Vilaysack & SuChin Pak
In this lively and candid episode, Kulap and SuChin dive into the sometimes wild, often whimsical world of the things we buy—and occasionally regret. Centered on the hilarious misadventures in auction bidding, “Pig On The Payroll” explores consumer fantasies, the emotional rollercoaster of impulse purchases, and the delightful (and cringe-worthy) aftermaths of chasing a dream via your shopping cart. The episode is packed with laugh-out-loud banter, personal anecdotes, and practical insights—including a lush travel guide to Palm Springs.
On Auction Impulses:
“What you’ve done is, you’ve bought a dream...and God forbid that in this time that we should tap into the dreamer in all of us every once in a while.”
– SuChin, 11:07
On the Pig Costume:
“I bid and won a four piece piggy walk around character costume. Four pieces, you say? Yeah. A head, a set of shoes, set of gloves, and a jumpsuit. Okay, I got it for $38.89, which, when you see the size of this thing, is actually kind of a deal.”
– Kulap, 16:34
“The two people that have seen it had the very same reaction. And their reaction was, wow, have you lost your mind?”
– Kulap, 17:13
On Post-Regret Coping:
“You just want to do, like, a reset, which is you get a big garbage bag, you put that in there, and you drop it off at the Salvation army and you never, ever remember it again.”
– SuChin, 20:20
On Making Joy from Regret:
“I will force it to bring me joy. Do you understand?”
– Kulap, 34:16
On Shared Human Experience:
“Now we all have our. We all have a pig in the closet.”
– SuChin, 56:52
Warm, witty, self-deprecating, and deeply relatable. Both Kulap and SuChin are unafraid to laugh at themselves, elevate the everyday, or share their vulnerabilities—inviting listeners to do the same and find community in their foibles.
“Pig On The Payroll” is a delightfully honest exploration of consumer mistakes, the hope and shame baked into every cart, and the creative ways we cope (or don’t) with our odd acquisitions. The Aunties’ banter offers comfort, laughter, and a reminder—to embrace your inner dreamer, even if it means a pig costume ends up in your closet.
