Okay, so Ku, do you remember earlier in the year I was looking for just a simple cotton pant? It was on my list. I know. It's like you realize that sometimes you just need the basics, you know, after you get through all the glitter and fluff. And so it hit me, where do I want to go for just simple, gorgeous basics that are super high quality without the sticker shock? It is Quince baby. And I check that right off my list last week.
Coolap Vila Isak
Wow. I mean, results. I already ranted about all the BS companies that are not getting that V stock money this year. And Quint makes it really easy to hold that line. Carter's. You know, these aunties love to nag about a good deal for a steal. And Quince does it ethically.
Soojin Pak
Don't get me started on their cashmere. Don't do that. You already know I scarf it, and that is ATC lore. But I also got this cutie I'm wearing today. Koo. It's a gorgeous ribbed chocolate cotton cashmere cardigan you can just throw in the wash.
Coolap Vila Isak
I mean, actually was going to tell you that I really like that cardigan on you. I didn't really like it.
Soojin Pak
This is so you. This is your color.
Coolap Vila Isak

My identity is a student. You know what I mean? I do the homework. So when Masterclass decided to come on board to help put this little show back on the tracks, I got my number two out and I started to really take note. I started the year with a mindfulness course from Jon Kabat Zinn. Highly recommend for a good reset. Now, the last thing, though, I watched was this incredible documentary on Patricia Field about fashion. And coo. This just sparked something in my brain, you know, it just. It's one of those delicious looks into fashion icon history. You have to watch it. Ooh.
Coolap Vila Isak
I didn't know that that was available to us on Masterclass. I mean, it makes sense because they're all about igniting curiosity. With plans Starting at just $10 a month, you can get unlimited access to over 200 classes taught by the best business leaders, writers, and creators in the world. Also, with that fire boy. Bling bling. You forgot your bling bling.
Coolap Vila Isak
Wait. Welcome to another episode of Add to Cart, the podcast about what we buy and what we buy into and what that says about who we are. I'm your auntie, Coolap Vila Isak.
Soojin Pak
And I'm your other auntie, Park Soojin. And I use my Korean government name for a reason, because my cart's all about it.
Coolap Vila Isak
Ooh, Preview.
Soojin Pak
All about the motherland.
Coolap Vila Isak
I love that. Yeah. And for you.
Soojin Pak
Yeah, just. That's what's on my mind. Should we get into it?
Coolap Vila Isak
Should we just dive straight in? Let's just, you know, why. Get warmed up. Just.
Soojin Pak
Oh, we'll get warmed up, Wim Hof just fine. We always get hot and bothered. That's not. That's a guarantee.
Coolap Vila Isak
That's our guarantee to you listeners.
Soojin Pak
Correct.
Coolap Vila Isak
All right, let's do it. Let's get into your cart. Sue.
Soojin Pak
I thought I would just do a quick. I have two things in my cart. A spring has sprung by the time this episode has aired, so I thought let's do a quick spring skin refresh. We haven't done that in a bit, so I'm gonna. Just a few products. Products I. Not any new products, by the way. Products that I've talked about. Products that I have been using. Products that carried me through winter and now are carrying me through spring. And I'm just using them in different ways. First order of business, good friend of the pod. Good light beauty. Breaking news is folding. David Yee, who's been on the pod, and he wrote this. I know, I know. Gorgeous article. Which I'll link up on Allure, giving you all the details. Why and it is all the details. You know, it's everything from tariffs. It's an amazing K Beauty brand. But K Beauty has become just bigger and bigger. I don't even think it's reached close to peak. And so competing as a new K Beauty brand with other K Beauty brands, ironically, is really difficult. That game is difficult. So anyway, that's just a few of the reasons these products are so good, they're so well priced. It makes a lot of sense that as things are getting more expensive and hectic in the world, just to create new product and fulfill and all of that was getting so difficult. So I say this, by the time this airs, I believe you'll have just about over a week to buy and stock up. And I've already done that. And if you're new to Good Light, you can do the starter kits and all of that. I'm just going to highlight the two favorites. For me, the first is going to be the thing that they launched with, which is this milky toning lotion. It looks like milk. It is a white liquid substance. You bathe your face in it. It is. It's so hydrating and I think perfect for spring. It's not heavy, it's not greasy. And the thing about K Beauty, which some of you may already know, it's all about the sandwiching and the layering. Like everything in K Beauty is very thin, very liquidy. It's about essences, it's about getting underneath
Coolap Vila Isak
the derm, it's about going. It's gotta penetrate. Yeah.
Soojin Pak
Yes. So that's your first layer. That's when you wake up in the morning and you do just a wash on your face, no soap, and then you bathe your face in this toning milk to get it ready for whatever moisturizer you're going to put on top of it. And this is morning or night. And then the cloud cream. Have you tried this cloud cream?
Coolap Vila Isak
I believe that I purchased it on your recommendation. Yeah.
Soojin Pak
Order of the Eclipse hyaluronic cream. I call it the cloud cream because that is a texture. It is marshmallow fluff texture. It is the perfect cream for someone who doesn't want something heavy because say you're living in a climate that's really hot or you have oily skin but it still has that weight. It's not just like a lotion. So I love it. Those are my two hero products from Good Light. We say Good Light, goodbye, end of one gorgeous era. And David, I'm sure will usher in another one. He's a great friend of the pod. So I love those two. And I think that spring is where Good Light beauty shines. Like their line is so about this kind of transitional. It's not too this, it's not too that, it's just right, perfect in between.
Coolap Vila Isak
I'm sad. I mean, yeah, I'm really sad to hear this. I purchased for my nephew for Christmas. He had put on his list like he wanted certain things. I was like, you know what? I'll get you a few items that you think that you need, but auntie is going to get you what I know you need. And it just makes me sad that I get it. I understand the pressures that David has been under and I actually have thought often about how he navigated when he was sued for a trademark over pimple patches, that he went through that and just all it takes to keep a business open in this country and we
Soojin Pak
know as two entrepreneurs as true auntie preneurs.
Coolap Vila Isak
God, there's no comparisons.
Soojin Pak
I know that was supposed to be very giant.
Coolap Vila Isak
It is a really funny joke in that. It is.
Soojin Pak
No, just the hyperbole in that. Just to even keep two old bitties on a mic has been so difficult for us.
Coolap Vila Isak
So difficult.
Soojin Pak
We struggled. Can you imagine dealing with investors? And also, like he launched it with this, you know, ethos and this kind of reframing of beauty beyond the binary, you know, that it wasn't just for a certain type of girly, that beauty was for everyone. That everyone is beautiful in whatever form and shape and identity and skin, texture, hair, it doesn't matter. So I think that he's always at the end of the day a storyteller.
Coolap Vila Isak
Yes.
Soojin Pak
And so it's true.
Coolap Vila Isak
I also own his book. So that story.
Soojin Pak
Yes. Which is so fun. Great add to cart, by the way. And so that in and of itself, I know, will continue in every iteration. But just as like a skincare fanatic to see something so well priced. Yeah. At this level of efficacy, you know, it's just a handful of brands that do it. I would say three. And he's one of them. And so I just think that it is a real shame. This is by the way, when you were saying it for Kai, this. But for all aunties and about to be aunties out there, this is a great product line for a young person just getting into skincare.
Coolap Vila Isak
Yeah.
Soojin Pak
Super simplified, clean ingredients, no fuss, effective. All of the above. So anyway, all of that to say is our job is to now get ours and also clean out good light to make sure. Yeah. It comes to the ones that really want it. So anyway, I say that that's my first add to carte in the spring skin. And then I just. I'm just obsessed with this new skincare line that launched and I talked about it when we first came back on Mike. It's Anu. This is that Manuka honey line I told you about.
Coolap Vila Isak
Yes. And honest, I meant to Purchase it. And I had forgotten it because it was holiday times when this was brought up.
Soojin Pak
Yeah.
Coolap Vila Isak
And now you bringing up again is like, okay, we'll definitely add to cart
Soojin Pak
and just add to cart. The essence. Just start there. And this whole line is about bringing medical grade Manuka honey into skincare. A lot of companies claim that they have it when they actually don't. And this is a company that has an exclusive relationship with someone that has the actual Manuka from New Zealand or Australia. I forget. It's just a fantastic line. But this essence, this is what spring is about. Spring is about that, like, mochi, bouncy sandwich. You know, you're coming out of, like, hibernation, crusty, dusty. How do you get that juice back into your skin? How do you get it? How do you.
Coolap Vila Isak
How do you get that juice?
Soojin Pak
How do you massage that dried jerky?
Coolap Vila Isak
How do you rehydrate? Rehydrate?
Soojin Pak
How do you plump up? That's right, you rehydrate. The first ingredient after water is Manuka honey. So, like, the efficacy and the amount of Manuka honey in these products is so high. Honey is a natural humectant. It's a natural antibacterial agent. It's antioxidant. It just. I just as that first base layer. So I've been using the milky toner in the morning, and then I use this at night. And then after that, you put on your serums and your moisturizers. That's how I been essence, you know, kind of toggling between the two.
Coolap Vila Isak
What she's describing is prepping the skin.
Soojin Pak
Prepping the skin. Getting that jerky skin to be a little bit more supple under these rock hard abs.
Coolap Vila Isak
I've already purchased it.
Soojin Pak
And that.
Coolap Vila Isak
I'm looking at the confirmation right now. Circle of our lives.
Soojin Pak
Our lives? Yeah, I was gonna say the circle of addiction, but.
Coolap Vila Isak
Oh, oh, oh. Right, right, right, right, right, right.
Soojin Pak
Let's not go there.
Coolap Vila Isak
Sure, sure, sure, sure, sure. Well, that's also sandwiched in.
Soojin Pak
That's also sandwiched in. Especially spring. You're coming out from a no buy beginning of the year, and you're charging it up.
Coolap Vila Isak
Charging it up. The way that you're describing the anu and the Manuka honey. And sue will. Sue will do the research. Sue will take a case up. She will open a file, and she will look at case studies and test studies. And for the most part, what I do is I rely on the work that she's done. And if not her, someone else. Someone else. And so there's a couple of products here, essentially supplements that I have inherited or I have learned from my trainer Eamon, who apparently now I talk about quite a bit. I mentioned that he again is in my wall of champions.
Soojin Pak
Rocky relationship, but a deep one.
Coolap Vila Isak
It was rocky at the beginning. That's what it's so many like all,
Soojin Pak
like, all meaningful relationships.
Coolap Vila Isak
All love stories, right?
Soojin Pak
Yeah, it's a fine line. Okay, go on.
Coolap Vila Isak
Yeah. Now he's just like, we are such pals. I adore look up to his wife, Constance. And Constance, he almost like, he's such a boy. But like, Constance is so particular. And she also does the research that basically anything that Constance is into, I'm like, oh, okay, great. Like, it's.
Soojin Pak
So she's your Mike Bender.
Coolap Vila Isak
What a relief to have people like you and Mike who have done the work. Like, why do I need to do double? Why don't I retread?
Soojin Pak
Cause you're not a dummy.
Coolap Vila Isak
No.
Soojin Pak
Oh, God, I hate double work.
Coolap Vila Isak
I'm not gonna do double work. And so these are things that my trainer is taking because his wife makes him. Yeah, that's the shortest way to put it. Okay, so the first thing is the quintessential essentials. 3.3 sachets. Okay. Basically all it is, is really is like a little purified sea water. I mean, the quickest way for me to get there, basically. And I take it in the morning. It's two tablespoons. I'm right. When I get up, I'm shooting it. And you guys know that I'm very worried about vertigo.
Soojin Pak
This is great for you.
Coolap Vila Isak
Yeah, yeah. And salt intake. So I just started taking it. It's basically a hydration supplement. I mean, I don't know how better to put it, but in its description, you know, it's also for muscle recovery, energy support. I need all that. I need all that. So it's 100% gravy potato with up to 78 minerals and trace elements. And it's ideal for fast acting hydration and mineral replenishment. So in general, I'm just. The medications I take. Dry, dry, dry, dry, dry, dry. I'm just so dry. So I've been taking this and I've been liking it so far. I'm about to get my second box. So of course, guys with everything, do your own research. But I've been feeling like it's helping.
Soojin Pak
Let me reaffirm your choice. Because Mike Bender is the other source in our lives that does all the research. You don't need to do any research. And we not only have this exact thing in our cabinet, and all of everyone takes it. We have the full range. The 0.9, the 0.225, 0.185 point, you know, 555. And depending on.
Coolap Vila Isak
So that I can ask you, what are the differences?
Soojin Pak
He's like, you're going to the auna, take the 0.9 and then the 3 point, you know, And I'm like, okay, just hand it to me. So he's gonna take it to a level nobody needs to take it to. But all that to say is that he is always researching, always talking to experts, and we have settled on this. We have, I think, every single hydration supplement under the sun we have tried. And so this has been our staple for the past, I don't know, year.
Coolap Vila Isak
What was that book? Remember you had a book that you suggested that was all about hydration and it made you eat whole fruits? Yes, because of it. What was it called again? Do you remember?
Soojin Pak
I have no recollection. I mean, I know the book.
Coolap Vila Isak
Yes, in the rear view.
Soojin Pak
It's in the rear view.
Coolap Vila Isak
Got it.
Soojin Pak
Yeah. That's so far erased. But all this stuff about just hydration. Hydration isn't just a. You know, it's great for your skin, it's great for your body. But, you know, just. You understand it on a cellular level that you have to hydrate and drink. Drinking tap water. Drinking water is not hydration. Like, that's the real bummer of it, is that you have to also, you know, think about the type of hydration, the type of cellular hydration, the way that you take it. I mean, it's complicated, but it's not. I think something like this is good for just about everyone. It's seawater, it has minerals. That's what we all need. Because our water is stripped of minerals, not to mention the contaminants beyond that. And most of us now, when we have filters, we have reverse osmosis, which is no minerals. There's nothing in it, Right? So then a lot of times, people, when I see women, like, carrying around like those giant Stanley things and I'm like, is that just filled with reverse osmosis water? Because now you're just draining your body of all the minerals.
Coolap Vila Isak
Oh, God. I need to pull Matthew McConkie into this. Like, he has June Diane Rayfield for Christmas one year, got him one of those maggots.
Soojin Pak
A gallon.
Coolap Vila Isak
A gallon.
Soojin Pak
I see people with that and I'm like, what is in there?
Coolap Vila Isak
The amount of water that Matt McConkey
Soojin Pak
drinks yeah, it can be bad. It can strip you of your minerals. It can keep you dehydrated way more than hydrated if you're not careful about the minerals in your water. Like, you need to have minerals in the water.
Coolap Vila Isak
Uh oh, Michael, Michael, tell Matt to listen to this. He's gonna be so pissed. The way that Matthew McConka drinks water, it's almost offensive how much water he drinks.
Soojin Pak
I want to stop people in the street and be like, I'm so sorry, it's none of my business, but what kind of water is in there? What are you drinking gallons of gallons of? I. I drink restaurant water. You know, like, fine, but I'm not drinking gallons of it every day. But anyway, you know, you can also spend way too much. I mean, like, do I think that you need to spend $50 a bottle on water, which we've done.
Coolap Vila Isak
No. Right, right.
Soojin Pak
I'm doubling down. I'm doubling down on this and reaffirming that we as well are drinking from this same well.
Coolap Vila Isak
Well,
Soojin Pak
The year of 2026 is a year I do less chores. It's just not in me anymore. I just have to fill my days with more than dishes and cooking and cleaning and repeating that whole process. Thankfully, Poplin has come with a solution. Poplin is going to take care of your laundry. And it's about as simple as it gets. You open the app, you schedule a pickup, and someone will take your hamper, wash your dirty laundry, dry it, fold it with the neatest corners, and bring it back to you, usually within 24 hours. And at first I was like, well, duh, this is a no brainer. But imagine all the times this is extra, extra helpful. For example, maybe your family is taking a big trip and you know you have a full day of laundry before you pack. Poplin can do that for you. And all you have to do is zip it into cubes, perfectly folded. Or I just used it for this. Say you have a large blanket, one that can't fit in your machine. How do you wash that? Apparently, Poplin is the answer. Go to Poplin Co to create an account and use code add to cart to get 25% off your first Pop Poplin order. Enjoy. Okay, so coo. And what is it? It's essentially. It's individual pouches. They're packets of vitamin C. It promotes collagen production, strengthens the immune system, supports healthy aging. But as you guys know, I have a toddler. I'm coughing right now because I have a toddler. So taking vitamin C, it, like, emergency does not do anything for me. It gives me nothing. And my trainer was like, this is what I take. Coming to find out, like, he. Part of the issue with him is that he won't take a pill. So this is how Constance is managing her husband, which I do respect. I've taken the pomo vitamin C before. It was another brand, and it tastes like ass. I had to, like, put it in water and shoot it back. You guys have probably had it before.
Soojin Pak
Is this different? Does this taste different?
Coolap Vila Isak
It tastes delicious.
Soojin Pak
Oh, this tastes okay. That was the rublicious on that.
Coolap Vila Isak
That was the rub. So that was liposomal. It was a different company, and it was disgusting. This is a orange vanilla flavor. That's delicious. And he's taking a magnesium supplement from them that he really enjoys. I take that by pill every night. I'm like, I'm not gonna double up on magnesium. That's not the area I need right now. But I am interested. They've got an NAD coming out, and I know you were once interested and I needed to follow up with you.
Soojin Pak
Yeah. Only because our dear friend, Dr. MD, MD. Mahondra, she was the first one that brought Nad into our consciousness on Add to Cart when she was talking about the injections.
Coolap Vila Isak
Yeah. So did you do anything? Did you try anything?
Soojin Pak
I mean, you know, there's nad. I mean, I don't know the full science of it, but there's all these, like, these, you know, they call them, like, the precursors that make nad. Da, da, da, da, da. You know what I mean? I've tried that. I've tried this. I have really streamlined my supplement process. As you know, I'm working with my doctor and doing, like, blood work every three months to, like, really target in. And so I've really cut back on all that. You know, I would say that with your supplements, obviously seek, you know, professional guidance, but you have to be kind of mindful with something like an NAD or any Supplement that. Like, when you supplement it, you can create imbalances, you know what I mean, in your body. So you just have to be a little bit careful.
Coolap Vila Isak
Right?
Soojin Pak
Like, just like a really simple one people know very well now is if you take vitamin D, it strips you of vitamin K, you know, so, which is why a lot of times, vitamin D and K are now together. Together. So, like, you just have to be a little bit mindful of that. Like, if you're dealing with, let's say, certain thyroid issues or you have adrenal fatigue, like, the right type of nad with the way that it's delivered is also important. You know what I mean? So you just have to kind of be aware of that.
Coolap Vila Isak
Yeah, that's a good point. These two things that I'm telling you guys about are on top of the many supplements my doctor has me on. So this will be a conversation undoubtedly of like, hey, I'm also taking.
Soojin Pak
Yeah, I'm curious about this nad. I mean, I'll get there once I get my baseline up with my doctor on. Like, okay, now what? Now that I've got rock hard abs, how do I get to genius level?
Coolap Vila Isak
Yeah, yeah, yeah. How do I live forever?
Soojin Pak
Yeah, sure.
Coolap Vila Isak
Now we're back to Huberman. How did we end up? How did we get back there?
Soojin Pak
Yeah, let's get off that.
Coolap Vila Isak
Let's get off that. Although I will say my niece Dana got me into Goop Kitchen, which when we order out, we tend to go there. There is right now this sort of, like, Andrew Huberman chili offering. Sue that I really like, and she got me into it. So basically I just have to describe it to you. So it's like a. It's like a turkey chili. But then the part that you are gonna enjoy is that it's a Japanese sweet potato that's been baked with, like, a little bit of nori on it and green scallions on top of it. And then it's just like pickled jalapeno, a type of special sour cream, a pickled red onion. Like, basically fixings, like a salad of cabbage. And you just basically. Yeah. And it's all meant to go on to the sweet potato. Right. And there's like white cheddar and like, I mean, it's. It's an easy meal to make at home, but man, oh, man, is it not satisfying.
Soojin Pak
Yeah. But did we need to put a Huberman brand on it? No, no. That's just an unfortunate side note. But that sounds. I love a Goop Kitchen order, and I haven't Even thought about them in so long. So I have to remember that next time I'll come over and we'll do a goop kitchen takeout.
Coolap Vila Isak
I would love that.
Soojin Pak
Okay, sue, what's in my cart is if you have school age children, by the time you listen to this, if you don't have your summer locked down, I don't want to alarm you. You know, I don't like it when coup in July starts to talk about Christmas. Okay. I feel that.
Coolap Vila Isak
I hear it every time I'm going to continue on, but go ahead.
Soojin Pak
Yeah. That can unduly raise adrenal gland and adrenal fatigue. But what I'm here to tell you is if you don't have your summer plans locked and you have school age children, I mean, you're kind of essentially. Because summer needs to be locked down. As soon as the Christmas tree gets put away, the summer needs to be locked down. Especially if you want travel involved.
Coolap Vila Isak
I still haven't really wrapped my head around that, I gotta say. I gotta say, because even me sitting around now, I don't know. I just don't know. You know, I, I don't have a handle. I gotta, I gotta start to orient my brain that way.
Soojin Pak
When you have school age kids, you realize you're like, damn it, you're on the school calendar. And so if you want to do like a big trip, a big international trip, you can't wait till spring break to plan that for the summer. I mean, I'm already through my summer plans. Like I'm on like a nice little pause. My spring break is already planned. My summer is planned. And now I'm like coasting until I have to start to think about holidays. That's, that's kind of where you want to be. But I'm going to let you guys in on a great add to cart. If you haven't booked anything and you really want like a memorable international trip, I'm going to add to card again what I did last summer. It's called Momo camp. And Momo camp is, if you'll remember our dear friend of the pod, one of my closest friends, Carol Lim, started this camp in Korea for mainly international families. Not Korean families from Korea, but like just international families. Korean Americans, Americans, whatever, that were interested in traveling to Korea, interested in the culture, you know, whatever it may be. And she selfishly needed that for her kids. And so started this camp because she's a very ambitious lady. And having done it, I just cannot sing the praises enough. It was the first time that I ever sent my kids to camp internationally. Like, some kids are really camp kids where you can just drop them off at the resort camp and they're fine. My kids have never been that way. And so camp has always been a struggle where I want them to do something in the summer. And especially my daughter has no interest. My son a little bit more interest. And so to say that my kids, Kai, had such an amazing summer and had such an incredible experience. And I'll tell you why this is an incredible experience. It is for a family that if you don't want to do any planning or scheduling for an international trip to Seoul, Korea, you don't have to do it. You literally just buy your plane ticket and show up. They do all of it. Adults and kids.
Coolap Vila Isak
Okay, that part. Adults too.
Soojin Pak
So you see what I'm saying? Like, that's what I didn't realize. The experience. Let me tell you what it is. You book ideally at the hotel they have a really, really good rate at. And you get an apartment. And you get an apartment in this hotel. And everybody stays in this hotel, ideally. And in the morning, you all meet downstairs in the. It's so cute. At the breakfast buffet. All the kids are there and their little T shirts and their tag parents are there barely awake with coffee mugs. You feed them. The bus shows up at the hotel, they whisk them away at like 8 o' clock and then you don't see them till 4 or 5 and they drop them off at the hotel. There's no commute. You don't have to figure out where to go. And this is what Carol wanted. Something just super easy, one stop shop. So once the kids are ushered off and they're doing things like. Because it's her and her connections, like last year they went to a set visit for like a huge K drama, the Queen of Tears. You know, they have K Pop. They have K Pop choreography.
Coolap Vila Isak
Yes. Sorry, was it specifically Queen of Tears? Yes, of course I've seen it.
Soojin Pak
Yes.
Coolap Vila Isak
It's huge.
Soojin Pak
But you know, she's one of the biggest ones. That's what I'm saying. You just got connects. You know, they had K Pop choreography. They do crafting, they do a field trip every single day. I mean, it's just so much fun. And now they've added this year an element for, I think the fifth through eighth graders. They're doing a sleep away camp where you're sleeping in the dorm. So the camp happens on this college. It's like a small, like, I think it's like an Arts college or something. And so that's where the camp is. But now they're taking over the dorms. And so they're adding this sleep away element. So you, if your kids are older, can be really hands free. So imagine you have pretty much 8am to 4pm on your own now. You can do with it what you want. You can get all the lasering, all the plucking and tucking, or you can, in the group chat will be like, okay, this is what we're doing today. Anyone want to go biking? This group is renting bikes and they're going to bike around here. This group is going to go shopping at like, indie brands in this neighborhood. We've booked a van here. There's always something to do if you want it, have your days planned for you. Because there's this group of people that are there in the same boat. And that's sort of like the feeling of it. That's the part that I didn't realize. So it just is unlike any camp experience that I've ever been a part of. I mean, I have friends who go, when they travel abroad, their kids are in camp for a certain number of it. I've never heard them speak of this experience where the adults are also kind of like, could be in some sort of tour camp as well, you know, so to speak. This is so great for families who are like, I really would love to see Korea, but I don't know anything about it. I don't know anyone there. It seems intimidating. It just is like the easiest way to travel with kids to Korea, hands down. You're never gonna get this kind of white glove, no planning if you don't want to experience. And that part of it, like, is what I wanted to come on mic and say, because I think you understand the camp part, you know, for kids, because that's pretty, you know, common and whatever. But it's that element of where the whole. And then the cute thing is, these kids are, you know, they're like becoming best friends. And so they'll come back from camp at 5 and they're like, I want to go with Juni to eat pizza. And so then one family be like, oh, I'm going to take a bunch of the, you know, sixth graders. We're going to go order pizza. And so then you're like, what? Okay, you know, that's taken care of for you. They have family nights where last year they bought a bunch of baseball tickets. And so that was an experience after camp. Do you know what I'm saying? For someone like me who is not a great planner, especially with kids trips, that is like a slog. Some people really are good at it and love it. I don't. And as many times as I've been to Korea, I haven't been that many times and I don't really know it. Like, I couldn't tell you where anything is, partly because I keep going with people that know Korea really well. And this is one of those things where I just kind of globbed on to whoever was doing something I was interested in or going to a restaurant that I wanted to see, and then I'm there. So it's such a low entry, non intimidating way to discover a place that is probably on your bucket list and to do it also with kids. I can't wait for Emmy to be old enough to experience this and for you to have this experience.
Coolap Vila Isak
Like, I mean, it sounds so fun. I would love to do this. I had no idea that that's what this is. And it's like, you know, and I know you get decision fatigue a lot. And I think it's also like, the fact that they want to hang out afterwards. Things are planned for you, for. For kids to do with each other. And that there's. Sometimes you don't even have to do it even after the camp is kind of incredible.
Soojin Pak
I probably didn't see Kai for like a week, you know, other than bedtime. You know, he would leave and then be at camp all day, and then he's like, oh, I'm gonna go with, you know, Daniel to go get hamburgers. I'm like, okay. And they all, you know, they all go together.
Coolap Vila Isak
It's so cool.
Soojin Pak
Yeah, it's a real experience that, like, I was like, wow, this is very unusual in the best way. So I, of course, so Carol.
Coolap Vila Isak
And curated by Carol.
Soojin Pak
It's so Carol. Which is why I did it and which is why I will continue to do it. You know, my kids unfortunately start to age out pretty fast, so I'm bummed that I didn't have, like years and years of this and didn't start when they were five. That would be the ideal to start them young. And then they have, like, their camp friends that they see every year for, you know, a few weeks, and they have this incredible experience. I don't know, it just. It's such a magical little thing, and I was not expecting that. This episode of Add to Cart is brought to you by Wild Grain.

Such as. Speaking of kids, my dear friend, the brilliant, hilarious, incredible Kate Micucci, a woman of so many talents, has a children's book, her first children's book out right now and it's called the Monster and Puppet Show. It's very cool because I'm sure you're familiar with Mo Willems.
Soojin Pak
Yes.
Coolap Vila Isak
And Elephant and Piggy, of course. So this is part of the Mo Willems Elephant and Piggy reading series. So it opens a message from Mo and you've got elephant and Piggy and they kind of essentially introduce the book within the book. So they're like, do you know what I love? And piggy says puppet shows. And elephant goes, yes. And that launches into this book within a book. A book within a book.
Soojin Pak
Momo Willems.
Coolap Vila Isak
Kate is an amazing writer and a wonderful illustrator. Again, it's called the Monster and Puppet show and it's so great. This is, you know, this is like an early reading book. It's like for kids ages 4 to 8. It's been so exciting in the last, I don't know, two, three years to see Kate, like, I mean, of course it's been before that, but she is really just like, she's such an amazing actress and writer and performer. But I think her art is so joyful and joy making and it's very contagious. And I'm sure you already know Kate, but please follow Kate Micucci if you aren't already and just see how she will put her art on trash that she finds in an alley. And she's been making merch. Emmy has a shirt. I have a shirt. When I saw her in New York, she gave us this little plushie that she made. It's sold out, but make sure you go to katemakuchi.com she's constantly putting up these like, you know, limited small batch drops of various different things. It's her makuchiku. It's got a cute little butt. It's just so adorable. And these are all original characters that comes out of Kate's weird little awesome brain. And it's just a gross. So it just came out. I think this is a great gift. I'm so proud of my friends and just to have like her words and her art under the banner of Mo Willems, but her standing so strong on her own, it's a definite add to cart for me.
Soojin Pak
Amazing. Well, you know, we're a big children's book family here, so I can't wait. Even though my kids are older, but Mike, because he's in this space, there's always picture books coming in and it's. I sort of love it, you know, because you just miss that and you're like, oh, my goodness. Anyway, so this is gonna be on the. Listen. What an interesting collab. What a powerful collab. I mean, it's for the children's book world. My goodness. This is heavy hitting. Collab.
Coolap Vila Isak
Heavy, heavy hitting. Okay, sue, let's just do Somatic hues. Are you a pit? Do you watch the Pit? Is that your. Is that your thing at all? I got into it. Yeah.
Soojin Pak
The thing is, is I. As you know, I'm very squeamish.
Coolap Vila Isak
Yeah.
Soojin Pak
So hospital procedurals, I have a really hard time, but I get it and I love it. The writing is great, the acting is great, and I've dipped in. But as soon as they get to that, like, you know, where they're showing some weird infection, I have to turn
Coolap Vila Isak
off, I mean, bone, body part. Like, I have to look away so often. I'm looking away often I'm like, nope, we're not, you know, oh, oh, someone got shit on. Like, that's the pit, and that's season one and this pit, season two. That's why people that change. Yeah. I love the show. I love the show. But you're absolutely right. The amount of times we're like, well, we're just not looking there now. Last season was all about being intubated over and over again. The fact that I can even say intubated so casually is because of the pit. That's hard. But this time there's just more. Just more. That's a motorcycle injury. Oh, brain. Like, brain head. Okay. Like a lot of that. So that part isn't my favorite, but I understand to be necessary for an ER show. The other thing that I just want to mention, you said that your kids got to go to the set of Queen of Tears, which blew my mind. I just sped through another K drama on Netflix called Can this Love Be Translated. And what I want from a rom com, a K drama, is, well, simply Asian people falling in and out of love and them having the agency to have all of the emotions to be a villain, to be the victim, to be love.
Soojin Pak
Drama. K drama.
Coolap Vila Isak
I love the drama. I don't love the trauma, but I take it. I understand. I understand you more now after watching so many K dramas. The angst that I think is the crage the crage. Yeah, simply the crage that I do believe flows through every Korean person's. Well, they're blood. Like in a sort of generational way. I do understand it more. Yeah.
Soojin Pak
Yep.
Coolap Vila Isak
But this one has got a lot of things for me. A guy who doesn't know how to talk about love or talk about his feelings is a brilliant language translator. And through, of course, a lot of circumstance and happenstance, finds himself in a situation with an actress who needs. Needs a translator for a traveling reality show that she's been cast in with a Japanese actor. And so he needs to pose. What? What's up?
Soojin Pak
Korean writers really building a world. You're not even halfway through the description. No, I'm not. Okay, so she.
Coolap Vila Isak
And I'm not.
Soojin Pak
So the actress is cast in this Korean reality travel show that needs. She needs a translator for.
Coolap Vila Isak
She needs a translator for.
Soojin Pak
Okay. And I assume they fall in love eventually.
Coolap Vila Isak
It's hard though, because he can sure translate other languages, but can he translate his feelings? Oh boy. Oh boy.
Soojin Pak
And then we're back to the grind, the old gristle mill.
Coolap Vila Isak
Well, the other thing that I think you haven't been able to grasp yet because I haven't told you, is that when they first meet, she is sort of an unknown actress. They meet, of course, happenstance situation where she's confronting which she thinks her ex boyfriend cheated on her with in Japan. And he's Korean, but he speaks so many languages and he saw her at sort of a shameful time. And at that point she is an actress who has not made it yet. And then she gets kind of a horror role where she plays the character Dora Mi and she's sort of this zombie killer. But during the filming of it, she. I don't know how to say this, she falls into a coma and the show must go on. And the movie while she's in this coma becomes this huge hit. So when she awakens.
Soojin Pak
Oh my God. God. This can only be from the unregulated mind of a Korean person.
Coolap Vila Isak
From a Korean. Of course, from a Korean woman. Be clear, it's one of the only times in that. That society where a woman can just dream unfettered. Yeah, exactly. Written by women for women. Like. Unfortunately, though, she of course has a past trauma and she begins to see the character do Re Mi in her life. So you know, that's also happening at the same time, this sort of zombie killer that is basically her subconscious negating her as she's trying to figure things out. So that's happening for her. And again we keep going back to the titra question. Can this love be translated?
Soojin Pak
Can it?
Coolap Vila Isak
Every episode we have.
Soojin Pak
And you won't. You won't. Till the very end, you won't.
Coolap Vila Isak
You won't. You have a suspicion because you understand what these types of shows are. But.
Soojin Pak
But how you get there is just as important.
Coolap Vila Isak
The show within the show. The show that he's translating for her again. She's Korean, and. And she's in this fake reality show where she may fall in love with this dreamy Japanese actor. They go to Canada and they go to Italy. So not only is this translator, he's doing Korean and Japanese, but he's also fluent English and fluent Italian.
Soojin Pak
Did they get the same voice actor to do all those? Is he speaking the languages?
Coolap Vila Isak
Yes, he is.
Soojin Pak
Okay.
Coolap Vila Isak
Yes, he is. And he's, you know, stronger in others.
Soojin Pak
You can tell. Got it.
Coolap Vila Isak
You know, as you would be. I mean, hey, in the real world.
Soojin Pak
As a translator. Yeah, yeah. This is based in Grounded.
Coolap Vila Isak
It's so Grounded.
Soojin Pak
So Grounded. Roots on the underground potato style of Grounded.
Coolap Vila Isak
So I'm getting, you know, you're getting a little bit of that supernatural drama. She believe her parents were killed under weird circumstances. He's got stuff going on.
Soojin Pak
She sounds like a Korean catch. I know. Maybe our non Korean listeners are like, wow, these are red flags. But not so much in Korea.
Coolap Vila Isak
Not so much in Korea.
Soojin Pak
No. These are like, hey, I can work with that psychosis. Sure.
Coolap Vila Isak
This Korean production, they find themselves in the wilderness of Canada. And how does hockey show up there? It's like I'm followed by hockey everywhere I go, and I'm like, Canada is on everybody's mind. Suchan, like, what's up? Like, well, this Canada in the zeitgeist
Soojin Pak
as America does it. Her thing.
Coolap Vila Isak
Yeah, you're right. Yeah, yeah, you're right.
Soojin Pak
It's like a staircase. Some go down and some go up.
Coolap Vila Isak
Yeah, yeah. What are you adding to qsu?
Soojin Pak
Okay, I have two quick things to add to Q to go along with your Korean theme and my Korean cart. Add to Q the latest season, Season five of Singles Inferno. Have you done this yet?
Coolap Vila Isak
I have not. I know people love it.
Soojin Pak
My sister loves it. Clear the calendar. So get through this because it will consume you. I watched season one, which was fine, and then I never returned because I was like, ugh, you know, this isn't my jam normally, but everybody kept saying, no, no, no, no, no. You have to. And now I'm in it, and I just can't recommend it enough. It is a wild ride. This is not a spoiler. They bring on two Korean Americans to this all Korean cast and let's just say bulls in a china shop, just stomp, stomp, stomp with our American, with being American. These two Americans, when I tell you they do the monster flipping of tables, you know, proverbially, spiritually to this show and to these poor Koreans. And it is just pure delight and entertainment. So add to cue that.
Coolap Vila Isak
Holy shit, I'm excited by this.
Soojin Pak
So you're going to love it. And then I have my add to Q is have you listened to Hayley Williams last solo album which came out at the end of the summer? We haven't talked about it. It's not my normal genre of music. But I love the story of who she was. So she's the front woman for Paramore, obviously, which we all know, and I didn't know this, at the age of 14 or 15, she signed a 20 year 360 contract with Atlantic Records. And yeah, what? I don't even know how that's legal, but I think the music industry we all know is disgusting.
Coolap Vila Isak
What?
Soojin Pak
So this record company has owned everything she's been a part of it has had creative say and decision making power in every part of her life. And last year or 2024, that contract finally ended and then she came out with no album. That's what I'm saying. And so I heard this story on another podcast and I like, well, I gotta listen to this album. So anyway, so that's the lore around it. So then she recorded this album under her own label which is called Post Atlantic because Haley Williams is a queen, is a fire horse. Skin to skin queen double fingers up. And so when I heard that, I was like, I gotta listen to this. Because she's obviously an incredible voice and an incredible artist and this album is so good. Paramore, I love their hits and their jams, but I wouldn't say is my genre of music. This is like akin to for me having only listened to Paramore. And then this album is like a little bit of like an Adele moment where like Adele was like the sidewalk, you know, pop singer. And then the next thing we knew, Adele was setting it on fire, you
Coolap Vila Isak
know, and so from chasing pavements to
Soojin Pak
yeah, Rolling in the deep or two different artists. Yeah, I just, I love the story. I love getting behind a woman, taking back her identity, her creative control. It just is such a good story. And the one song on that album I'll add to cue for you to start is Love Me different and you suck that no one's gonna love me like you did.
Coolap Vila Isak
And I know that you're probably right about that.
Soojin Pak
But someone's gonna love me different. And I want someone to love me different. It's just a sweet, poppy, lushy. Kind of reminds me of, like, the best moment in Gwen Stefani when she went solo. Cool. It just is. Yeah. And I'm saying add to Q. Hayley Williams and so happy to see another
Coolap Vila Isak
woman removed from cart. Gwen Stefani.
Soojin Pak
Well, I mean, it's sad, you know, you live long enough and these people just scratch themselves.
Coolap Vila Isak
Dude, her pushing that Christian app, it's like that Catholic app.
Soojin Pak
I don't know what's going on.
Coolap Vila Isak
This was wild stuff.
Soojin Pak
It's a wild stuff. It's wild stuff. But you live long enough, you'll see it. Maybe she'll come back into the fold and realize that turn wasn't the best for her.
Coolap Vila Isak
Or not.
Soojin Pak
Or not. No, of course. Or not. I'm hoping. Here's to hoping.
Coolap Vila Isak
I didn't know that. That's so funny because, like, I'm. When that album came out, I was, like, getting fed a lot about her, about how, much, like, black people love Haley and, like, you know, she was on Amy Poehler's podcast. So I have listened to the album a couple times, and it's the only time that I heard Paramore hits. But it wasn't. That wasn't my band. That wasn't something that I. I remember her. The song with Bob that she sang the hook on. But I didn't really know about Haley, but I was like, oh, I really love her voice and I love. I love this album. But I didn't know that she was with Atlantic for that time. That detail was unknown to me till MTV journalist Soo Chin Pak gave me and the listeners just a treat. It was as if we were in a time capsule.
Soojin Pak
10 to the hour.
Coolap Vila Isak
Wah wah.
Soojin Pak
For those that know. For the three people listening that remember. Ten to the hour.
Coolap Vila Isak
More of this than this Fire Horse year.
Soojin Pak
Suchin Pak, strip a little urine for 10 to the hour.
Coolap Vila Isak
Okay, this is just so crazy because, like, you don't listen to music yet,
Soojin Pak
and yet I heard this on a. I heard this on a podcast. Oh, yeah, it is true. I like music.
Coolap Vila Isak
This is crazy. When you started, I actually had to silence myself. When you started launching about an album and launch about Haley, I was like, is this happening? Am I asleep?
Soojin Pak
Well, but do you see the hook for me isn't the music.
Coolap Vila Isak
No, it's about a woman being unshackled.
Soojin Pak
That's right. Yeah, that's right. That's what hooked you in uncaging that vulture, let her fly and feed off the carcasses of the men that robbed her for 20 fucking years.
Coolap Vila Isak
Yeah.
Soojin Pak
360. I looked up, I was like, what is a 360 deal? 360 is it's everything album merch. It's everything she ever created and touched
Coolap Vila Isak
that's so up it like gives you signing.
Soojin Pak
When she was 15, maybe 14 even I some say 14 something 15. But can you imagine?
Coolap Vila Isak
Burn it all down.
Soojin Pak
Burn it all down.
Coolap Vila Isak
Burn it all down.
Soojin Pak
That's why. And then when I heard that story, I said, let me hear hear what a Woman Uncaged sounds like. And it's a fantastic album. She sounds happy and free, which in my fantasy she is.
Coolap Vila Isak
Let us all be as free as Hayley Williams. Unshackled, ready like the goddess Kali. To destroy, to purify, to just grind men underneath our talons.
Soojin Pak
Mealtime, girlies. It's time y'.
Coolap Vila Isak
