Lemonada.

Also with that fire boy.
Sujin Pak
Bling Ling, you forgot your bling bling. Wait.
Kulap Vilaysack
Welcome to another episode of Add to Cart, the podcast where we discuss what we buy and buy into and what it says about who we are. I'm your auntie Culap v Lysak.
Sujin Pak
And I'm your other auntie. Today's episode is so near and dear to my heart, but my heart is a pitter patter a bit. I'm a little bit petrified. You're scared because. Yeah, we are having one of my bf's on the show. And Khu, this woman goes so far back with me that she know where all the bodies are buried. Yeah, she was there before the NDAs had to be signed.
Carol Lim
Yeah.
Sujin Pak
You know what I mean? She's got that original BTS footage.
Kulap Vilaysack
Yeah, footage. You know, I. I asked her guest to share embarrassing stories about sue and she said what happened in the early years of New York and Jamaica maybe needs to stay there. Well, folks, I know that I'm at the edge of my seat.
Sujin Pak
First of all, let me say that's loyalty, okay? We got young folks listening that don't know how to be friends. This is right here. When someone asks you to tell you a funny story about your friend, you say, what happened in New York and Jamaica stays in New York and Jamaica. And she said, Jamaica. Need I say more? Yeah, that's all. I'm just leaving it right there.
Kulap Vilaysack
I mean, I'm assuming you both were in boderic beads, but go ahead, top.
Sujin Pak
To bottom, you know what I'm talking about. It is my honor to introduce our guest to the stage tonight. I mean, this woman is a fashion icon, capital I, a New York legend A curator of bespoke snacks, she is one half of the creative duo behind global fashion and culture making brand opening ceremony. She is a philanthropist, a champion of equity and justice. She is a woman who knows never to leave a party early, even though I'm waiting in the car with the heat on. And she said goodbye to everyone twice in the room. Still at the party. Somebody bring this woman a cape. Please add to cart. Carol Lim, everyone.
Kulap Vilaysack
Wow, an absolute champion. Welcome, Carol.
Carol Lim
Oh, my God, you guys. I mean, I'm so nervous. This is like a dream come true. I've been listening since episode one. And when sue said, oh, I'm starting this, I like, this is the most genius concept. And I gaggle and laugh and my husband comes in, he's like, what are you listening to? I'm like, oh, I'm listening to my favorite podcast because I feel like I'm having a three way conversation with you guys and I'm right there.
Sujin Pak
Well, you are always right there. That's the thing. Literally, sometimes we have guests. I don't know who these people are, but I end up loving them. But you sitting here, you're always right there. And it's so rare that we're going to get a guest on the show, someone who's been boots on the ground with me in a few global countries because it's usually just me. And I do believe half of our audience is like, this can't actually be true. She must be exaggerating. I want to paint the picture just a light wash. What's it like to be on the ground with us? You know, what's on the agenda? What are we getting up to? What's the vibe when we travel together?
Carol Lim
Oh, my God. I mean, look, I think the beauty of traveling with you is we can splurge. Like, we can go high end, right? Like, we know where, like, we need to pamper ourselves. But we can also go really low. We're like as low to save for something that will splurge. I mean, this is. There's always a reason why we're doing in the Yang. Exactly. And I find that that for me especially now, is a type of traveler. I mean, friendships aside, when I travel, I need that kind of flexibility. Like, you know, sure, I have friends at different parts of their career, life, stage, but to be with someone that can go both ways is really key.
Sujin Pak
So I appreciate that you're so generous because I generally just go one way and we all know what way that is.
Kulap Vilaysack
That's what I wanted to follow up.
Sujin Pak
With the Thing is, is that Carol. God, it's really hard to just sum up a woman as complex and accomplished as Carol. But one of her traits is that she will take something that you're into, for example, or a way of being or a lifestyle. Okay. And then she takes that and she just burrows one more deeper. That's the beauty of traveling to me, with Carol. It's like, I thought I was at the clearance rack, and she's like, oh, this is.
Carol Lim
Oh, yeah. Oh, no.
Sujin Pak
I'm like, what?
Kulap Vilaysack
You're like, be even more discounted.
Carol Lim
Yes. Yeah. Because the discounters have to go somewhere else. Right. Because where are they getting.
Sujin Pak
She's going wholesale.
Carol Lim
I'm going. They get it.
Sujin Pak
This is what it's like to travel with opening ceremony.
Kulap Vilaysack
Okay.
Sujin Pak
She's made a career out of finding out where are they getting their gems. So it's very rare. Very rare. Unless there's a medical emergency. And that's happened recently that she's like, hey, I'm going here. Do you want to come? I don't care where it is, because you will never get a version of that place with anybody else other than with her.
Kulap Vilaysack
Wow. Wow.
Sujin Pak
True.
Kulap Vilaysack
That's amazing. And I do recall you guys went on a trip, and within the last couple years, when you guys went to Europe and then you did a side. Side journey.
Carol Lim
Is this a salted story?
Sujin Pak
Yes.
Carol Lim
Oh, yeah.
Kulap Vilaysack
I mean, that's where I'm going.
Sujin Pak
I forgot about that trip.
Carol Lim
Oh, my God. I mean, so this is a good example of, you know, I was there for work, and the company that I was working for graciously let us stay at their villa. So again, luxury, like, high end. And we went to the market and we had this grand idea of we were going to go meet another friend and we were going to cook this elaborate dinner, but time got the best of us, and we were in the house, and so we didn't buy certain things that we would need. The basics, oil, salt, and suchin. After, you know, I'm like, God, how are we going to do this? We have nothing. We have no oil. We don't even have salt. And she's like, oh, my God. And she ran upstairs so quickly, she came back with a Ziploc bag of salt. At that point, I was like, wow. Like, you know, after knowing MacGyver, knowing her for this long, put a ring.
Sujin Pak
On it, right, Carol?
Carol Lim
Yes. I was like, wow.
Kulap Vilaysack
And that I could still surprise you.
Carol Lim
Exactly.
Sujin Pak
And that's hard to do.
Carol Lim
That's hard to do.
Sujin Pak
And both of you guys, both of you guys. A no mountain high enough. It is hard to impress or surprise or delight or horrify either one of you, because you've seen and been around it all. And every once in a while, pull out a crumpled Ziploc full of Peruvian's finest salt.
Carol Lim
It saved us. It was great. And actually, I learned from that. And I feel like when I'm traveling and I know that I'll be in a house or an Airbnb, I have a little to go set of seasoning now because of you.
Kulap Vilaysack
Wow. Wow. See, that's interesting. Again, what I'm hearing, though, is sue, of course, that salt was in a reused Ziploc bag that probably had slices of ham three days prior to the salt again.
Sujin Pak
But what Carol is tastier. It's cured.
Kulap Vilaysack
It's cured.
Sujin Pak
Cured salt.
Kulap Vilaysack
Carol was like. Let me get. I'm gonna guess. A very fantastic.
Sujin Pak
Exactly.
Carol Lim
Yes.
Kulap Vilaysack
And she's got sets of seasonings.
Carol Lim
I have these little containers that are like little plexiglass that have dividers that you could put it in because you need it to be clean or. Yeah, you hear that, too. So.
Sujin Pak
Yes, I hear it. I'm taking it in, and I'm trashing it.
Carol Lim
This is where we will deviate.
Kulap Vilaysack
I see that you diverge in that.
Carol Lim
Road, and then I will one up it, because it is really key. I mean, I was like, this is really important, but I want it to be an acute container.
Sujin Pak
Yes, that's the other. Very, very, very Carolism. Yeah.
Kulap Vilaysack
Let's get into how Carol adds to cart. So ahead of the show, Carol shared with us, and I'm quoting her, because I must, because I do think. You know, I don't know if you're looking to be anyone's guru, but I have this feeling that I'm putting you.
Sujin Pak
Up on a pedestal. You have sense of it. See, you already know this.
Kulap Vilaysack
Coo.
Sujin Pak
You get the vibe. Yeah. No, no, no. Where she goes, we all follow. Yeah. Your feet. Yeah.
Kulap Vilaysack
Okay. That's where I am prostrating myself. I'll wash your feet. You know what I'm saying? That's where I'm at. Yes. And so I'm quoting my guru, and she said that my philosophy around adding Descartes centers around three pillars. Now, these are in order of gifting, eating, and buying the best functional, yet beautifully designed item.
Sujin Pak
I mean, Carol, could you please speak more on this?
Carol Lim
Well, okay. So I feel like in this chapter of my life, which is I've moved to la. I have aging parents. I have young kids. I've been married now for 12 plus years. I think about what brings me happiness and I'm seeing myself turn into my mom, which she had this corner in the closet of just gifts. Like random a plate or a Tupperware set or you know, her version of what she would just have in case someone came over and they brought you a gift. You would freak out because Koreans have to do this like never ending gift exchange. So she'd always have that. And I'm like, why do you have all this crap in here? So cut now to myself and I'm fully that person. My own version. And so I'm always on the hunt for a gift. I mean and it could be for me, right? One for me, one for you. I always look like I'm looking at your background right now. Ku and I know you're crystal like the decoration. Like I know the sets. Like I think you're hosting a lot. How do you not get drinks mixed up? Like what are the little things that might bring you joy? So I have to, I think about it because you know, most people now in our age group and friend group, they can probably buy what they need and like. But that's a little thing where they don't have time to think about oh, a nice salt container for my purse. Like you don't have time. Sujin would never buy that for herself. She never. But you know, that could be a nice gift. And so I often when I'm with people, think about it and I will buy it and hold it and then so I just have a little stockpile of things that I'm always giving.
Kulap Vilaysack
Gift vault.
Carol Lim
I have a gift vault.
Kulap Vilaysack
Okay, wow, wow, wow. Okay. So I'm wrapping my head around it. See I have sort of the janky version whereas I'm given a lot of things and so I just, I kind of have like this excess of skincare and just random stuff that if I let I'll donate what I don't like. But if I think maybe it's good stuff, I'll dip into that for gifts. But what you're doing is of course higher level. What I'm describing sort of a stock, a stock area in a closet. But what you're describing is a gift shop.
Carol Lim
A gift shop. And I have to forbid my kids from going in there because you know there's stuff in there. It goes ranges from kids so newborns to our parents age. Right. Because if I'm going to meet someone's parents or they're visiting, what would a 75 year old like? You know, and so what would a.
Sujin Pak
75 year old like, for example, I.
Carol Lim
Would say right now I'm into Manuka Honey products. I have a friend who is launching an incredible Manuka Honey and the medicinal properties. So there's a sal. You know, Koreans also when they read it, like there's a craze in Asia with Manuka honey. It's used actually in hospitals. Right. Like it's an actual FDA approved ingredient used on burn victims. So it's ingestible, it's a pliable. There's a whole thing around that. But I was like, this is a good gift to have. I can't do, I can't buy too much of that because you want to get it fresh. But there's a salve that I thought, okay, this is nice. I bought one, my friend sent me one. And now that's going to be part of the treasure trove.
Kulap Vilaysack
And how are we, just for my benefit, how are you organizing it? Are you doing it by age? Is there any sense of organization in your little vault?
Carol Lim
Yeah, so there's a kids section, there's like a mom or friend section and then there's like a little food section or like perishables.
Kulap Vilaysack
Gotta like love to get my eyes on that.
Carol Lim
I mean Sujin knows she, I've employed her like when she went to Japan. I have the salt that and then she's given me new salts that I've not tried before. So it starts to spark new kinds of curiosity. So a salt and sauces like soy sauce, sesame oil, perilla oil and then a nice accompanying vestibule, like a jar. Like I found this Japanese hand blown like soy sauce holder. So just the two, it's like a beautiful object and something you would use because that's the other thing. We get a lot of things we don't use, but generally things we that you use for cooking you'll try out. You're going to open it and maybe it's not for you, but you tried it. And so I like to think of those things together.
Sujin Pak
Wow.
Kulap Vilaysack
Okay, well, I'm really excited to dive into your cart. We're going to take a quick break and we'll be right back with Carol's cart.
Julia Louis-Dreyfus
Hey, Julia, Louis Dreyfus here. If you listen to me on my Wiser Than Me podcast, you probably already know that I'm an investor and an evangelist for the mill food recycler. There are a lot of reasons to love mill, but for me it's all about the impact. Keeping food out of the garbage is one of the most powerful things we can do to help the planet every single day. We're talking banana peels, carrot tops, old takeout. When that stuff heads to the landfill, it becomes a huge driver of climate change. If you already compost, great. But of course there's the smell. The flies, the running to the curb every day with a little leaking compost bag made of cornstarch. That's where mill comes in. It makes keeping food out of the trash as easy as dropping it in. It can handle nearly anything from a turkey carcass to like 20 avocado pits. It works automatically while you sleep. You can keep filling it for weeks and it never ends. Ever smells. Mill makes dry, nutrient rich grounds that you can use in your garden, add to your compost, feed to your chickens. Or mill can get them back to a small farm for you. But you kind of have to live with Mill to really get it. And that's why they offer a risk free trial. Go to mill.com wiser for an exclusive offer.

And we are back on Add to Cart. Carol Suchin's best friend One of her Day one Ride or dies.
Sujin Pak
Day one.
Kulap Vilaysack
Yeah, let's dive in. I'm gonna assume that everything that you have shared with us are are add to carts and not none of them are removed from cards.
Carol Lim
Correct. Because I have spent the last two weeks where we were on spring break. I've purged and gotten rid of a lot of things. And so any of this stuff is add to cart. And I do it thoughtfully with people in mind. Like there are specific things. So yes, all add to cart.
Kulap Vilaysack
I'm so excited.
Sujin Pak
Classes in session.
Kulap Vilaysack
Exciting.
Sujin Pak
Because gifting, you know, Carol, all three of us, gifting is our love language. That is our love language. So I don't know for anybody else listening, if your pits are as sweaty as mine are right now and excited.
Kulap Vilaysack
Okay, let's start with the Alessi pillbox.
Carol Lim
Okay.
Sujin Pak
Clicking on the link. Clicking on the. What is oh, so sensual looking, doesn't it?
Carol Lim
It's supposed to be the shape of a chestnut. And this was inspired by my friend Ann, who I recently traveled with and she works at a non profit called Core and she is traveling probably eight months out of the year and always needs to keep her immunity up. And so when we were traveling to Mexico, she opened this little Altoids tin and she was like, here, pop some cardamom, like fresh cardamom seeds. Like, she buys the pods, you peel it open and it's used, I think, in a lot of Indian desserts. And it's an ingredient that is used often. But when you chew just the cardamom directly, it helps with your breath with nausea. And just it became something where I was like, oh, this doesn't fit into my salt and pepper spice jar. But she would appreciate to be able to put some of these cardamom pods into a nice pill box because they're just thrown in there and they're banging around. This felt like a Nice gift for me and for her.
Kulap Vilaysack
That is lovely. It's silver. It's $35.
Sujin Pak
Easy.
Kulap Vilaysack
Gorgeous.
Sujin Pak
Right.
Kulap Vilaysack
Now, what is your take? Since, as we all know, you just put your pills and pods in your. In your jeans pocket.
Sujin Pak
Correct. I mean, Carol, I'm sure you're not surprised to find that out. You know, I take a handful of lint with every, with every pill I take, and that's how I absorb it. But this little pillbox, even though it's not my lifestyle, I understand and I really appreciate making just your everyday mundane things a moment of ritual, self care, luxury, whatever you want to call it. And it's just that moment, it's like taking a breath and opening. Rather than opening up a used Altoid tin or fishing in that little side pocket in your front pocket for your vitamin C, you pull out this beautifully designed Italian, I believe, Alessi.
Kulap Vilaysack
Yeah.
Sujin Pak
Chestnut sterling silver pillbox.
Kulap Vilaysack
The chestnut shape is unexpected.
Sujin Pak
It's unexpected.
Carol Lim
The Altoids in, by the way, is fine and works. It's functional. But she's too busy in her life. So if I could, I saw and every day she was opening and closing it, it was like banging around in her bag. And I was like, what? I want to put this in a nice thing for you. And then I found that and I was like, well, this seems perfect.
Kulap Vilaysack
I love it.
Sujin Pak
So thoughtful. Love it.
Kulap Vilaysack
I love it, I love that. Let's move on to a pair of Clark's shoes. Oh, wow. This is so.
Sujin Pak
Carol.
Carol Lim
Wow.
Sujin Pak
This is not a gift, Carol. This has to be for you.
Carol Lim
Yes.
Sujin Pak
Okay, so tell everyone what it is.
Kulap Vilaysack
Martine Rose tour view, women's black leather. Tell us about the shoe.
Carol Lim
What I mean, so Martine Rose is one of my all time favorite designers based in London, has just an amazing point of view. She's designed for things with Nike. I mean, she did Kendrick Lamar's jacket for the last halftime show for the Super Bowl. Like, she's amazing. Also a mother and just I feel like she's pushing the envelope in design. And so she has this long term partnership with Clarks. And so Clarks, as we all know, is classic shoe. They make the little wallaby. They, they're just known and very comfortable. And so when you marry something like that, to me as now I don't wear heels or I definitely can't put an uncomfortable shoe on when I see things like this. It piques my interest. And so I definitely try to keep one foot in. In fashion at all times. And this is something that I would buy and actually wear. I think that's important for me. I have a closet full of things that, you know, I don't have occasions necessarily to wear them to, but I keep them. And occasionally you want something new, you need to bring joy. You also need to be part of the conversation. You know, I can't be wearing, you know, Repetto ballerina flats forever. Like, although I have them. But this, to me is like, okay, it's current, it's cool, it's functional. So this is like that third pillar of buying something beautiful and functional that I will wear.
Kulap Vilaysack
And to me, I look at this and I don't see it as, like a fad or fast in any way that you could wear for years. Years and years. Exactly.
Carol Lim
It's something that you'll keep. And yeah, I don't want to buy things that are disposable. I feel like this, to me, will only be disposed of when it falls apart from wearing it too much.
Sujin Pak
I.
Kulap Vilaysack
What a beautiful death.
Sujin Pak
What a beautiful death. That's how we all want to die. Just tattered at the end to the finish line. Bare, put away wet. Exactly. I just bought my first pair of Clarks last year. This is a brand that's been around forever. I saw a little collab with a Japanese brand. I love them. I wear them all the time. They're black suede. And then I inserted a New Zealand sheep's wool foot pad.
Kulap Vilaysack
Whoa.
Sujin Pak
In it because I don't know, I just was like, wow, how can I take this to the next level? And it's just like, the perfect shoe. I do feel like Clarks are entering the arena once again.
Kulap Vilaysack
And I just keep saying I didn't know. Oh, I knew, like, guys. Guys I grew up with always wore Clarks in lieu of coffee.
Sujin Pak
Yeah.
Kulap Vilaysack
A dress shoe or something like that.
Carol Lim
Yeah, yeah, Clarks. If you think about Birkenstock Crocs, like, all these kind of function, like, they're created from a functional need of comfort. I think people want that. And so they're catching on and they're trying to find people to give it some kind of narrative edge because, you know, the Clark shoe is classic. And yes, men always worn it. But, like, for women, they want to capture women shopping it as well. And so sometimes you need a slightly different material or shape. And so I think that's a smart.
Sujin Pak
So smart.
Carol Lim
Yeah, yeah. Love it.
Kulap Vilaysack
I love it. Okay, let's talk about two add to carts that go fresh milled rice and a rice gift set.
Sujin Pak
What?
Carol Lim
Okay, so there are many sites that deliver Asian groceries and Snacks to you. This one is called Kimsi Market, based in New York. They do a bunch of different sauces, but they actually mill their own rice. So when you order a pack of rice from them and it comes in 5, 10, 12 pound, however you want, you can specify if you want it from brown to white, and then anything in between, like 30% milled, 50% milled, 70% milled, and then 100% milled, which would be white rice. And it's real, it's expensive, it's definitely like a special occasion. But the taste of this rice is pretty phenomenal. It's. And they only mill it once you order it, so it's in small batches. And they have this pot that you can again do as a set where you can make your rice in, or obviously you just make it at your. Your rice cooker. But this is again, something maybe you wouldn't buy for yourself, but if someone sent it to you, you'd be like, wow, that's a nice gift. And it's. There's a story from the farm and from the area where it's from in Korea. I like finding things like this where there's specialty sites that focus on specific thing. And the guy that started this actually started this journey because someone in his family got sick and he really went deep into what kinds of foods do we need to put in our body. And I think when people start things from that kind of passion, good things come out of it because it starts from a personal place.
Kulap Vilaysack
The pot and rice gift set is $149. It's a beautiful clay pot, black, matte black, and 2 pounds of 100% off brand freshly milled white rice. But I think you can choose the variation if you want. Let me just double check.
Carol Lim
I think you can. Yeah.
Kulap Vilaysack
Okay. That's great. Wow, this is so, what a wonderful gift. And I think a good price point for a certain type of person.
Carol Lim
Yeah. And on that site are also sauce, other things that you could find that would be equally as fun for someone to receive, like, specific. A lot of stuff from Jeju island, which is an island off of Korea. So things that are made from farms there. And so there's a story about each product. And I feel like you feel good knowing where it comes from.
Kulap Vilaysack
Sue, are you familiar with kimchi?
Sujin Pak
No, I'm sorry, I'm here on the show, but I'm not here on the show.
Kulap Vilaysack
I felt that sense that you were.
Sujin Pak
Shining like, wow, I'm looking at these kimchi bundles. She's too scary. I'm coming from a Korean food desert here in Santa Barbara, California. So anytime I see something that's Korean food, because, listen, I love a wee delivery, but it's not gonna be super high quality. You know what I mean? Like, it'll be fine. It's like what you find in a typical Korean grocery store. But, you know, you want to have things that are. If they can be well sourced and all that, and you can splurge a little bit. Like, to me, the amount of rice that we eat in our family, like, obviously, this isn't going to be our main rice. I mean, could maybe be our main rice. I mean.
Carol Lim
I'm open.
Sujin Pak
I'm open to cut some salt products from Japan. You know, cut that budget and move it into the rice budget. Because if it's something like this that my kids are eating at least once, if not twice a day, I'm looking, you know, I'm looking for the Kim. What is the best rice version? All of that. I think it's. It does really matter.
Carol Lim
It does. I mean, honestly, at this point, it's like, for me, I would choose to pay for these types of products because all we have is our health. Like, we don't know. I mean, we were talking about the prediction of the earthquake and the tsunami. We don't know what's going to happen. So if I can't spend that extra 20% on rice that I know it hasn't been processed and pesticide or whatever, and gochujang, by the way, which has all these additives that you have to specifically now look at the ingredient. All these things that we just take for granted are like, these are the sauces that we use. But actually, you know, there's some not great things in everything that we eat. And just to do that one step of, like, I'm gonna put my money here. I don't need to buy these three outfits. I'm gonna buy this fresh, fresh milled rice.
Sujin Pak
Well, Carol, like a guest, Tracy Thomas, she brought a game changer to the show. And I haven't been able to stop thinking about it, which is like, don't get me a gift that won't disappear. Don't do it. Yeah, it could be a product. It could be something you eat. But at this age in my life, do not bring me something I put in my house, something I wear, because all of those things I've already got or I know what I want.
Carol Lim
So.
Sujin Pak
So to me, this fits in that category of, like, it's something that you could get for someone or yourself. That will disappear.
Carol Lim
Yeah.
Sujin Pak
You're not left with it.
Carol Lim
I love that. That's exact. I feel the same way.
Kulap Vilaysack
I'm really interested in this next item. It's a gauze nightgown from Priamo, which is a us made luxury nightgown, robes and pajamas for women and men.
Carol Lim
I mean, have you ever heard of them? No. Yeah, exactly. So when we had opening ceremony, one of the things that Umbrita and I really prided ourselves on, and also just because we love the hunt of this is we would try to find the source, like, who was making. Like, we did this thing with Pendleton because we wanted to do a flannel shirt in our collection. So very early on, like 2004 or 5, we approached them and they were so confused. They're like, we don't sell to your kind of store. We only sell to outdoor stores. No. And we kept going back to the salesperson to be like, no, we really want to buy your shirts. He's like, okay, I'm only going to sell you six. Because I don't think, you know, you can't. It's not going to sell. And of course, you know, it sold. And we did this whole collaboration with them because we knew that they were the original source of making the Pendleton wool and the whole backstory. And so Priamo is another good example when we're like, we want to make some nightgowns. And they do so many different kinds. And I. We were really into this lace inset that they did and they're like, okay, we can embroider your name in here. And. And so we just like them because they've been around forever. They haven't changed. I mean, if you even go on their website, it kind of could maybe look like it's a fake, fraudulent website. I think the customer service is like, email me@hotmail.com but that's how it was, you know, 15 years ago. That's how it's been. And I love brands like that. Like, they're just doing what they do and they have amazing quality. And if you need a nightgown. And this is another thing, maybe that contradicts that last point of if it doesn't disappear. I feel like this is another category that maybe people don't buy for themselves. You're just. Especially if you are a young parent, you're just wearing whatever. But if you could find a comfortable thing in the style of a friend that would like it, this is. They're a great company and they have great quality and they've just Been around forever.
Kulap Vilaysack
I mean, I am in they. This looks great.
Carol Lim
She's.
Sujin Pak
We've lost her now to the Matrix. I was thinking of the last one.
Carol Lim
I was. Oh, I could see her. And, like, there's a robe set. Like, there's different things where I was.
Kulap Vilaysack
Like, oh, yeah, I'm a. We need a shorty.
Sujin Pak
Yeah, she needs a little shorty. Nightgown.
Kulap Vilaysack
I love the look of this. This is very classic. This is a great Casey Rose Wilson gift. Actually, a lot of girlfriends who, like. Sometimes. Yeah, sometimes there's just, like, schlumpy and, like, sweet Fredericks of Hollywood. Like, it's just nice to have a. You know, like, just a beautiful.
Carol Lim
Yes.
Kulap Vilaysack
Nice. Something you want to actually sleep in.
Carol Lim
Yeah, it needs to be comfortable, but you don't want to look frumpy. So this. And you also don't want to be sexy, where it's like the strap, like, you lean over and it, like, rips off. Like, it needs to be functional but beautiful.
Kulap Vilaysack
I love this. This is great for me.
Sujin Pak
Whenever I have a sleepover at Carol's, she's always in some gauzy, gorgeous, cottony, billowy nightgown.
Kulap Vilaysack
And, sue, what are you wearing?
Carol Lim
Three blankets.
Sujin Pak
I'm wearing exactly what I wore that day, only with two more layers on top.
Carol Lim
Wow. Yeah.
Sujin Pak
Huh. Tucked into a wool sock. That's what I'm wearing. And so it's the yin and the yang that work with us.
Kulap Vilaysack
You know, you've always said that, like, you know, with your. Your core group of friends, that they're these. How would you put it? Usually these Amazons. These.
Sujin Pak
Yeah, these bougie bitches, where I get to plus one on these journeys, mental, emotional and physical, you know, like, I collect. I collect purveyors, connoisseurs, editors, curators. Before that was a word. Carol and Umberto were doing that. So I collect these people. I see the value early, and I get them early. You know what I mean? Before they become the shit. It's like a talent scout.
Kulap Vilaysack
Yeah, exactly.
Sujin Pak
And then I tag along, you know, and I eat all their leftovers and I sleep in all their villas that I haven't personally been invited to by the owner, but plus one, you know what I'm saying? It's a lifestyle that is not for the dumb or the faint hearted. No, you have to be smart. You gotta be quick, you gotta be flexible. Okay? And I'm all those things.
Kulap Vilaysack
Like a rat. Hey.
Sujin Pak
Wolverine, rat, raccoon, badger, badger. All of it.
Kulap Vilaysack
Yeah, yeah.
Sujin Pak
Pile of it.
Kulap Vilaysack
And I say that with respect.
Sujin Pak
And I take it with respect.
Kulap Vilaysack
Okay, we are agreed. Okay. So Bold Carol's coming in next with simply lemon juice.
Carol Lim
Okay. So one of the things also when I travel with my spice, along with my spice, I mean, this is not always, but I like to have a portable little jar of lemon juice. Because I drink lemon juice with water every morning, like I'm sure many people do. And so I just thought this is. This is the brand that I buy. If I need to take it with me where I think I'm not going to have a market nearby. This is just a absolute must. Along with my vitamins, I take it with me and it's a lifesaver.
Kulap Vilaysack
So this is the Tuscanini 100% Sicilian lemon juice. Not from concentrate.
Carol Lim
Yes.
Kulap Vilaysack
So it's like a 6.7 ounce lemon shaped squeeze bottle and it's a product of Italy and it's certified kosher.
Sujin Pak
How did you land on this? Because, you know, that's the story. That's the journey she took to get there.
Carol Lim
Okay. So I've tried a lot of different kinds. A lot of them have water in them, so it's not pure. And then it's a flavor. A flavor. Some have a little bit of sugar. So this is 100% lemon juice. And it's the flavor that I like. I don't know how to describe it. I don't know how they can have different tastes, but some of them do.
Kulap Vilaysack
It's Sicilian.
Carol Lim
It's Sicilian.
Kulap Vilaysack
Percent Sicilian lemon juice. Okay.
Carol Lim
Yeah. And it's kosher. I mean, it's got many benefits.
Kulap Vilaysack
It's $5.79.
Sujin Pak
I never even thought about this because I. When I travel, I just go without. I mean, I often bring a lemon in my snack bag that I'll use throughout the trip. I'll just keep cutting it and squeezing it. But there's something about the convenience of this that you don't have to think about it. And you can have that squeeze of lemon juice whenever and wherever you want.
Kulap Vilaysack
It's pretty genius.
Carol Lim
It's just like.
Sujin Pak
It's a little thing. It's just a little thing that makes traveling, you know, it's like the older you get, the more you travel, et cetera. I know the point is to discover new things and new versions of yourself. But I'm not at. I passed that station. I went through it. I did that. And I am at my true form. I don't care if I'm in Spain, Mexico City, Korea. I am going to continue in my truest form. Am I Interested in different versions? I mean, small variations, you know. Am I on a. On a bicycle traversing Paris? Yes, but am I traveling with salt? Do I have all my supplements? Do I have my matcha frother for the 11 o' clock matcha, but also my hojucha for my 9am Ho chucha? Two different matcha powders.
Kulap Vilaysack
That's right.
Carol Lim
But that's. This is all foundational. Like, I think there's still room to evolve. Look, we have many chapters left right, in our lives. We have many things that I feel.
Kulap Vilaysack
Oh, wow, counterpoint here.
Carol Lim
That's great. I feel very hopeful, Sujin, that there might be another metamorphosis yet. Just let's watch. Cool. Op. Like, I think.
Kulap Vilaysack
Let's watch. Okay. Okay.
Carol Lim
I think that she's gonna surprise us.
Kulap Vilaysack
Well, Carol, I think that you're a futurist. You've made a career and seeing things before other people do. Do you have an inkling of what this evolution could be?
Sujin Pak
And if you don't have an inkling, is it good?
Carol Lim
It's definitely good. It's 100% good.
Sujin Pak
Like, is there a house and a family left?
Carol Lim
Yes, there's all of that shed.
Sujin Pak
Okay.
Carol Lim
The kids are doing their thing. Mike is having, you know, you remember I have this credit system with my husband. I don't know if I've explained that to you cool up yet, but you know, okay, so you have your life before you get married, you have your life before kids. And so there are things that you would do that would feed your soul that you grow as a person. And a lot of that stuff has to go on the back burner as you become a family unit. And I think as you know, like your child gets older and you can leave and you feel like, okay, their, their schedules are going. I really felt the need to take these trips either alone or with friends. And I think it's really important. And I just kind of brought it up one year to my husband. I was like, okay, what do we think about a 10 day credit system a year where I could go anywhere I want and you could then choose 10 days or split it up five here, five there, and you could go wherever you want. And he was into it. I have friends where I've talked about this and, you know, one person's like, well, I don't need that. I don't want to go anywhere else without my partner. And I'm like, what? Like, wow. Like that's. Wow. Like that's, that's really different. Like, because I think it's really great for to go through these things and then come back and like talk about, like, what things you ate, what you discovered. Funny anecdotal stories that just keep us interested in. And it makes me less impatient. I'm happy to be home. So you have to recharge. And so that's right. This is when I say sujin. And this like. I don't know, I feel like there's going to be something with this traveling, like, I don't know. I feel very excited about what that stage will be.
Kulap Vilaysack
You've been very committed to it too.
Sujin Pak
Oh, yeah. I told Kulap at the beginning of the year that I'm not here and apologized for that already. So I already said it right from the get go. So people could just get off this train if they weren't happy with it. She's like, go. I say distance makes the heart grow fonder. And more distance makes it more fonder. Okay. You see what I'm saying? And I don't need to do the math for you.
Kulap Vilaysack
Sure.
Sujin Pak
Okay. It doesn't take a calculator to figure out where this sentence goes. And that's the truth.
Kulap Vilaysack
That's the truth.
Sujin Pak
That's the truth for sure. For me.
Kulap Vilaysack
Look. And you've got balance. This is the year that you will be at Zoe's birthday.
Carol Lim
Wait, where were you?
Sujin Pak
Were I missed her birthday two years in a row. Carol forgot.
Carol Lim
Oh, my God.
Sujin Pak
And Carol knows. She's trembling in fear because she not only knows my daughter, but she's got two. Two of her own. And can you imagine?
Carol Lim
No, I cannot.
Sujin Pak
Because imagine missing. Missing twice. Once I was like, ooh, okay. And she was like, okay, I guess. And I just came back with a suitcase from Paris just for her. I didn't buy one thing for me just for her. And she was okay. The second year.
Kulap Vilaysack
What happened the second year?
Sujin Pak
Where were you To Palm Springs. I didn't even. It wasn't even like a.
Kulap Vilaysack
Because that's really close. It is so close. Could have drove back and.
Sujin Pak
Yeah, anyway, so I really have, you know, I'm paying the price. And it's for her, the warden to decide when the price has been paid, when my sentence is up. But every year.
Kulap Vilaysack
Well, to be fair, this year for her birthday, you are throwing her a decoud in party because of Carol.
Sujin Pak
Carol took us, the girls, all of us to this cafe. And so we had so much fun that now I am hosting this crazy decadent charm party for her for her birthday. And with a menu, you know, of course this girl has to have a menu, of course.
Carol Lim
Wait, so is this the launch of our Santa Barbara chapter? Because we want to open this decadent cafe.
Sujin Pak
That's the other thing about grocery store.
Carol Lim
Slash, whatever else you want to.
Sujin Pak
This girl is so slippery. She's a slippery otter because at every turn, she wants to start a business, and unlike you and me, cool up.
Kulap Vilaysack
She actually will do it.
Sujin Pak
And that's what's so scary. That's why you gotta hold on tight. You can't let her out of your sight, because before you know it, she's already called the sending out invoices.
Kulap Vilaysack
Yes, baby.
Sujin Pak
No. That's not how we do businesses. You know, that's not how cool up and I do. But we do businesses that don't make any money, that we don't want to do, that we give away right at the gate and complain the entire way. But so you gotta. You gotta hold on. So it is not. Carol. The launch of our decadent cafe, slash Asian market here in Santa Barbara. It is just over the top notebook shop.
Carol Lim
Mm.
Sujin Pak
What if it's a Rice Miller?
Carol Lim
What if it's got a window display for your Christmas scene where you can have the Christmas village?
Sujin Pak
What is this store? And is anything for sale?
Kulap Vilaysack
Finally, all of the tonnage of blue and white striped shirts she got in Paris will have a home.
Carol Lim
True.
Kulap Vilaysack
She's never worn more than two. Ever.
Sujin Pak
Or all the pants, Carol, every single pair of pants I've ever bought in a different country is a size and a half too small in America. What the fuck?
Kulap Vilaysack
Cause I know you tried them on.
Sujin Pak
Well, of course I tried them on. I walked around, blah, blah, blah. I'm like, these are loose. These are baggy. This is gonna be perfect. I get here. The buttons. I have so many things that the butters don't even touch.
Carol Lim
Does your dryer shrink everything?
Sujin Pak
No, it's just. I don't know, in the frenzy of what? Of traveling, of biking, of e biking, of. Of motor scooting, of not eating, of not sleeping, of having espresso in the morning. All of that is. I'm a completely different size.
Kulap Vilaysack
Yeah, you are a different creature when you leave.
Sujin Pak
It is true. And again, I delight and surprise the best of them.
Kulap Vilaysack
Well, I think Carol's right in terms of your next evolution. I think you know it too, because you make it such a point of, like, I gotta get out. I gotta travel. I gotta. You know, this makes me human. This makes me, like, feel in touch with myself. So, like, really, dare I say, lean in more?
Sujin Pak
I shall.
Kulap Vilaysack
We need more.
Sujin Pak
Permission granted.
Kulap Vilaysack
Let's take a quick break. Our final break. And we will be back with Carolyn Carters. The temps are getting hotter, but we gotta still keep our budgets cool in this economy. Kulap Vilaysack
Welcome back to add to cart. Carol, let us get back in. Let's dive back into the cart. And we're still talking about travel. I want to hear about this cordless hair iron that you take with you.
Carol Lim
Okay, So I just added this. So I haven't received it, but I feel that this is the tool that I've been looking for for my baby hair. So it's a travel iron that is small enough to fit in your purse. It comes with the cap. You charge it through usb. You turn it on if you need an under curl if you want. I think there's two types of curls you can do. You can kind of create a wave, but you can do your bangs. It just just creates a more polished look. Because I'm very lazy. I don't do anything to my hair. But sometimes you need that extra zhuzh because, you know, let's be honest, I'm 50 now and I need to put in a little bit more effort, like when it comes to when I travel and whatnot. I just want to have this tool for home, too, not even just for travel. So I just thought it's very reasonably priced. It's from Japan.
Sujin Pak
The thing that I love about this and what I think that you love about it is that it can fit in your purse.
Carol Lim
Exactly that.
Sujin Pak
It's a tiny little thing because you want it to be on the go, in the car, on a plane, you know, at a hotel. I'm all about this. I recently discovered Carol, a cordless, also portable USB charger hair curler, which you'll be seeing when I come to your house later this week. Game changer again. Those days you need a little shush. It does one style of hair and one style of hair only. But it's the style of hair that is fine for me and I don't have to Think about it anymore. And so, like, a little thing like, this is a game changer if it works. And it. It's effective having something where you don't have to think about your hair.
Carol Lim
Yes.
Sujin Pak
That's my. What did they call it? My Trojan horse? My Gilian empire.
Kulap Vilaysack
Yeah, I thought you were gonna say kink.
Sujin Pak
Kink. Kink. That is the thing that I lust after and think about the most. Like, what can I do that just puts this. Set it and forget it.
Carol Lim
For me, like, now, at my age, my hair. If I can't create what I need, I instantly look like I'm hanging out with my mom and her friends. Like, before, I felt like, oh, I could just kind of get away with it.
Sujin Pak
Yeah.
Carol Lim
Now it's a little bit like, you're right. No, you've entered into the danger zone where the hair needs to be considered. And it, you know, I get right. Do you know what I mean?
Kulap Vilaysack
Like, yeah, My husband sends me these photos of me and my daughter, and he's sending it because it's like, oh.
Carol Lim
You guys are so cute.
Kulap Vilaysack
Your little faces are together. And I'm looking at my hair, like.
Carol Lim
Do I have a bald spot?
Kulap Vilaysack
Like, what is that in the back of my head? Like, what's happening?
Carol Lim
That's that little flat part back there. This iron, I hope, is gonna help just straighten that out, because it, like, does this weird spread and. No, my mom has it. It's like, obviously. And it's natural. It happens. But no, I have to consider that because, you know, my husband actually, we have this ring camera, and he's like, oh, I saw you. He's like, I saw you there, but I thought you were away. And I was like, that wasn't me. That was my mom, because we were both wearing the same sun hat. And he's like, oh, sorry. And that's the thing. The ajumma hat isn't ironic anymore. Like, it's not like, I'm 25, and you wear that, and you're like, oh, my God, Cute. So the hair is important.
Sujin Pak
And I'm gonna say. And I didn't think about this until we all sat down here. Three ajumas. Is that because as you get older, you wear less makeup, your clothes start to take a burlap shape, and you're wearing Clarks. Okay, that's three strikes, baby. Now, if your hair is bedraggled and balding. Yeah. Yeah. So it's actually the only thing. It's the scaffolding keeping us in, you know, society. So, like, that has been my Struggle. That has been my Roman Empire. Like, what do I do about this hair that is so unkempt? The rest of it, who cares? I'm not putting on glosses and false eyelashes and getting my nails. I'm not doing any of that. So the hair has to at least just. Just be fine. Red carpet ready. So that's why I'm so passionate about a cordless hair iron. For you.
Kulap Vilaysack
Yeah. This is pretty great. And I think this is also a fantastic gift for the friend that travels a lot. Like, it looks nice and just that it can go in your bag. Like it. It's such a good idea.
Carol Lim
Yeah.
Sujin Pak
Done.
Kulap Vilaysack
I love it. I love it. Now let's get into some. Some snacks.
Sujin Pak
Let's never end this episode. I know.
Kulap Vilaysack
This has been so great. These are, like, all, like, game changers.
Sujin Pak
No, never end this episode. Okay, go.
Carol Lim
Actually, so the next one and then the last one. The sardine forks and the smoked salmon by Fishwise. The Fly by Jing version. Those really should go together.
Kulap Vilaysack
Oh, my God, these are so cute. Oh, my God, they're so cute.
Sujin Pak
Describe, describe, describe everybody.
Kulap Vilaysack
Oh, my God, they're so cute. Oh, my God.
Sujin Pak
Please, Carol.
Carol Lim
So it's a tin of sardines. What you think are sardines, but they're little metal forks or pokers that you can use for olives. You can use, I mean, for anything, really. And it's in a shape of a sardine, and they're so cute.
Sujin Pak
And it comes in a sardine can. People, are you vintage style? Are you awake? Are you listening? Is the blood pumping 25 alive? 26.75 for a set of 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6.
Kulap Vilaysack
Stainless dishwasher.
Sujin Pak
Safe stainless dishwasher. Tiny, tiny little set of sardine aperitif picks in the shape of.
Carol Lim
You could do fruit with it. I mean, it can really work for a number of different finger foods.
Sujin Pak
It's just.
Kulap Vilaysack
This is such a good gift.
Sujin Pak
Every bone in my body.
Carol Lim
Okay, but then if you go to Balvi, the company, they have other shapes. There's a salmon one. Like, there's all. They have a bunch of novelty, fun, other things. But this sardine one is my favorite.
Kulap Vilaysack
Okay, Housewarming gift.
Sujin Pak
Carolyn, wait, wait. But wait, wait. She's gonna take it. What did I tell you?
Kulap Vilaysack
Make it a sack in bitch.
Sujin Pak
She's gonna take that thing that you are excited about, passionate about, and then she's gonna fucking turn it like a dominatrix. Yeah. She's gonna turn it just so the heat is on a little harder. What is then you pair it with what?
Carol Lim
Okay. Speaking of heat, click on the smoked salmon fish Wife, their Fly By Jane collaboration that they do. So they have a smoked salmon tin that you can get, but then they did one with Fly by Jane Chili Crisp. So my friend Jane, who is part of my ajuma crew, we were camping and you know, as you do like you're sitting at post hike, everyone brings a little spread of snacks. And she brought this. She opened it? No, she had little crackers and some little laughing cows. She had this tiny knife and she was spreading it like, okay, here, try this. And I was like, what is this? Like, I literally was like trying to like lick the tin. It's so delicious. It's got. It's not that spicy. It's got the right heat. And so this at your next party for your friends who like to host with the sardine things. Oh, my God. Come on. Disappear. This will disappear.
Sujin Pak
Hello.
Kulap Vilaysack
I also want to give your friend Jane just props of also pairing this with laughing cow.
Carol Lim
Right. Wow. Laughing cow.
Sujin Pak
The little triangle laughing cow is such a deserving and yet unmentioned hero. God, I love it. I love the laughing cow.
Carol Lim
Me too. Me too. Is it an Asian thing, you think? You guys, I don't.
Kulap Vilaysack
No.
Sujin Pak
Because I haven't had a laughing cow in a long time. Because I get the other one, which is still good. The one that's in the wax, the round baby bells, which my girl loves. But I gotta get my girl a laughing cow today.
Carol Lim
Today.
Sujin Pak
Today I have a grocery run. I gotta get her cream cheese for her gluten free bagel. And I'm gonna get my baby girl a laughing cow and blow her mind. Okay. Anyway.
Kulap Vilaysack
Okay, so this is.
Sujin Pak
And it's a three pack. Cause I thought one tin for $40. Cause, you know, of course, this brand is so chic. Yeah.
Kulap Vilaysack
The packaging is fantastic.
Sujin Pak
So you're gonna get the best. But I realized it was a three pack. It's a three pack, so take that.
Kulap Vilaysack
This is so good. And I. I'm gonna be honest. I haven't really, you know, tinned fish is Divagal. But I'm like, I don't know. I don't know. But this looks really good.
Sujin Pak
Yeah. Cause a smoked salmon is not a tinned fish.
Kulap Vilaysack
Yeah.
Sujin Pak
You know what I mean? A smoked salmon, that's just a Sunday brunch. But now you've taken it. You know what I mean?
Kulap Vilaysack
Elevated it up a notch.
Sujin Pak
Yeah, yeah.
Kulap Vilaysack
I'm into this. Okay. Wow. I really don't want to let her go. I know she wants to go the last item. So intrigued.
Carol Lim
Okay.
Sujin Pak
So intrigued. What is eye gloss? Never even heard of eye gloss.
Carol Lim
So this is one of my, I don't wear much makeup, but addiction. Tokyo is one of my new all time favorite makeup brands out of Japan. And they, this is also limited edition, but they had over Christmas like this black kind of eye gloss. And I was at the store in Santa Anita and they're like, oh, you put it on and it creates a little sheen on top of your eyes. If you have like eyeshadow on, they put it on. I had no eyeshadow on, by the way. They just put it on and it created a little kind of glossy look that I was really into. And so I have this, I use it if I'm gonna go out. Like, I'll probably use it on Friday when we go out. If you have. Yeah, it's just something that creates a.
Kulap Vilaysack
Little bit of grubby hands in her pot.
Sujin Pak
Oh, yeah. No, I, I, I've discovered so many things, but I, the last time I was there, I used your Victoria Beckham kajal also. Oh, yeah, Major.
Carol Lim
I should give that to you because I never even.
Sujin Pak
It's so good.
Carol Lim
It is really good. She's known for that.
Sujin Pak
It's, it's.
Kulap Vilaysack
Wait, what is it?
Sujin Pak
It's an eyeliner, but they call it a kajal. I don't know why. It must be some sort of like type of eyeliner. What's crazy about it is that. So it's very soft and it goes on, but it doesn't smudge. And you're like, I don't quite. I don't understand the science of it because that's really the true test. And that's why I generally only stick with like Asian brand eyeliners because they just know with these salmon lids what it's going to do. But the Victoria Beckham midnight blue, and I discovered it in her bathroom. Yeah, but because it doesn't read blue, it just reads navy. It's like a lighter black.
Kulap Vilaysack
I've never fucked with that. Gorge. Gorgeous. That's so cool.
Sujin Pak
Gorgeous because it's not blue. Because I have to hang that up here in the year 2025. I gotta hang up the blue eyeliner. But this is a navy. Anyway, so she'll hang it up, but.
Kulap Vilaysack
She won't throw it away. She'll still keep.
Sujin Pak
No, of course not. I have so many.
Kulap Vilaysack
That's in the she shed right now.
Sujin Pak
So the eye gloss and you're. What is this? It's like a. What is this color? So that people know this is a clear.
Carol Lim
A clear color. So you put it.
Sujin Pak
So are you wearing it with no eyeshadow?
Carol Lim
Well, you can put eyeshadow and eyeliner on, and it's like the last thing that you put on top to kind of imagine. If you, like, spritz your face and you set it to give the dewy look, it's kind of giving that to your eye, but it's not giving you. I do it when I kind of go more of a matte skin. Like, you know, generally, I have lots of sunscreen. My skin is shiny, like, you know, but when I go out, I kind of like to tone that down. And this just creates another kind of dimension to your eye. If I'm wearing mascara and I do have eyeliner on, so.
Sujin Pak
And what's the smudge? The smudge factor? None. It doesn't move.
Carol Lim
No, no.
Sujin Pak
What?
Kulap Vilaysack
This is fascinating.
Sujin Pak
Yeah, I know.
Kulap Vilaysack
Because this is kind of what we were talking about with Mahondra Sue. How about we're not supposed to put a powder on us ourselves anymore, on our eyes at our age, supposedly. This is a rule. I didn't realize until she brought it up, Carol. Yeah, but this would be if you didn't want to do, like, the Stila one that she mentioned.
Sujin Pak
Yeah. Which was, like. Because that has more of a shimmer to it.
Kulap Vilaysack
Right.
Sujin Pak
And I'm a little afraid of the shimmer. So, you know, it's a very fine line. Very fine line for a mature woman to not go to Euphoria Fair.
Kulap Vilaysack
Yeah.
Sujin Pak
You know, you want to go sophisticated, Kate Moss chic. You don't want to go where the kids are raving. You know.
Kulap Vilaysack
What else have you liked from Addiction? Tokyo. I'm so interested. I've never heard of them before.
Carol Lim
All the lipsticks are great, actually. I mean, they're cheek. I mean, the nail polish. I got nail polish for my girls. It's just really good quality. And it.
Sujin Pak
It's.
Carol Lim
Keep an eye on it. It's gonna really blow. It's already blown up. But they just do interesting things. And I think because it's Asian, like, the formulation, like, I just. It feels good. It goes on smooth.
Sujin Pak
Say it. It's better.
Kulap Vilaysack
Just say it's better. It's okay.
Sujin Pak
I mean, it's our month. We can say this with complete, you know, authority.
Carol Lim
Better.
Sujin Pak
It's just better.
Kulap Vilaysack
Oh, Carol, thank you so much for joining us. I'm sorry I kept you long. I just. I needed. I wanted to squeeze every drop I could get.
Carol Lim
Oh, my God.
Sujin Pak
That's right. Yes.
Carol Lim
So, so fun. Oh gosh, so good.
Sujin Pak
Can't wait to have you again. We're gonna have to do like a whole travel episode of like going into her suitcase. Okay, before we go, core memory. Cause you know Carol, she's like Mary Poppins. You know what she's gonna pull out of her bag. Okay. I have a core memory. Carol. I've never even told you this. The last time we went to Korea, we stayed in the same like, kind of air. We have the same exact situation. She was maybe a floor down or a floor up. Went to her place and I noticed her charging station. This bitch. I can't even describe it to you. Pulap. She has a charging station. It's a stick that's like maybe a foot long. And any cord, you can potentially imagine. Any cord, any cord that the world has invented and maybe beyond. Like, maybe there's like an empty socket that one day you can pop in a new socket. And all of her devices were very organized and popped into this charger that was so like utilitarian. Beautiful.
Kulap Vilaysack
Wow.
Sujin Pak
And I shoved that down into the gray matter of my brain and I said, God damn it. I aspire.
Kulap Vilaysack
Please email me the link.
Carol Lim
Yes, yes, thank you. Well, that is. I mean, our modern day problem. Too many damn chargers with different USB.
Sujin Pak
C. She has it figured out. She's got. So anyway, we gotta have her back to unpack her suitcase. Cause I mean, that's a whole other.
Carol Lim
Sub pod and we need to get clearance. Suchin. On one story that we can reveal on air.
Kulap Vilaysack
Oh, wow.
Sujin Pak
I.
Kulap Vilaysack
You know what? Oh my God.
Sujin Pak
I don't know if that's free. I don't know if that's free. I think you gotta pay for that.
Kulap Vilaysack
You trick me with these game changers and my normal personhood would be to grind you both down to tell me stories. And here we are at the very end and I got nothing because I was too.
Sujin Pak
You weren't reporting, Cece. You weren't reporting. You weren't on the job.
Kulap Vilaysack
I want to give you night.
Sujin Pak
You were behind the news desk. This is why you're an amateur.
Kulap Vilaysack
Yeah, I guess so. I guess so.
Carol Lim
Next time I have. I have a couple. I'll have. It could just be an episode dedicated to different stories that we click on links. Sorry, Suchin. Anyways, Kulafal, there's many different versions of Sujin. Yeah, even one.
Sujin Pak
She's seen them recently, but she's seen because people don't understand. Carol and I went to the same college, so she's seen the team version. I mean, she's seen every iteration of.
Kulap Vilaysack
Me at some point of you, and she's so. She's seen you change and she knows there's more to come. So you are not at your final form.
Carol Lim
No.
Kulap Vilaysack
You still will discover a new vein.
Sujin Pak
So that I haven't been all tapped out, I guess.
Carol Lim
Guess not.
Sujin Pak
Who knows? Guess not.
Kulap Vilaysack
Carol, where. Where can people follow you on social media?
Carol Lim
I am on Instagram @CaroliM. Double L, C A R O L L I M. That's it.
Kulap Vilaysack
Thank you so much.
Carol Lim
Oh, wait, one last thing. I started a kids camp.
Sujin Pak
This is what came up. This girl, she had an idea. Now it's been here. Okay, okay.
Kulap Vilaysack
Tell everybody about it.
Carol Lim
Just summer, we are launching year one. Year one. It's called Momo Camp, and it's a language and culture camp in Seoul, Korea, where your kids can come. So anyone who's interested in Korean culture language can come Grades one through eighth grade. But next year, we'll probably go through high school. And we're working with an amazing team of educators to create a really interesting curriculum and just to do fun projects. And the main differentiating feature is we're going to have local buddies so the campers will be able to interact with local Korean kids who are also learning English just so that they can actually build friendships. Because most of the other camps that I've sent my kids to, you know, you just do it in that camp, right? And so you end up kind of having interactions with other kids from America.
Kulap Vilaysack
It's temporary.
Carol Lim
Yeah, temporary. But this, I think, fosters a different kind of relationship. And hopefully the kids will stay friends with their buddies. And so that's what's happening. And that's called Momo Camp. And you can check it out on Instagram @Momocamp.
Kulap Vilaysack
That's a great idea.
Sujin Pak
And, you know, listen, we'll be there year one. So you get the bonus. You get the bonus. Drop your kids off and then you can get on the clearance train and we'll take you around all the corners.
Kulap Vilaysack
Search for hash browns and slime.
Sujin Pak
No, because I already know all the spots. Don't worry, I got you.
Kulap Vilaysack
Carol, thank you so much.
Sujin Pak
Thank you.
Carol Lim
Thank you.
Sujin Pak
Bye.
Kulap Vilaysack
Bye.
