Carters. I just finished the most satisfying book I can't wait for you to get your hands on. Boat Baby. It's a memoir following Vicky Nguyen from boat refugee to NBC reporter. It's about resilience and grit and what the promise of America can be. Vicki's family escapes Communist Vietnam and makes her way here, but that's only part of the story. With heart and humor, Vicki shares childhood misadventures and talks honestly about combating stereotyping and the struggle to be a dutiful daughter. Boat Baby available wherever books are sold. Also with that fire.
Culap Vilaisak
Boy.
Elizabeth Lame
Wait.
Culap Vilaisak
Welcome to another episode of Add to Cart. I'm your Auntie Culott Vilaisak.
Sujin Pak
And I'm your other auntie, Sukin park, otherwise known as Sushi Poo or Sujin Pak.
Culap Vilaisak
Veteran MTV journalist, American icon, voice of Cribs. Lest you forget.
Sujin Pak
I think we should just drop that in. We'll keep that every intro. We're just gonna have Tony just drop that in there. I mean, it's pretty much cemented.
Culap Vilaisak
But there was a new thing that you've added today. I never called you Pooh. And so now that I know that's available to us all, it's just noted it's filed.
Sujin Pak
Yeah, yeah. Between Culap Vilaisak and Su Chin Pak. Man, we could really win Wheel of Fortun. What other game where words are flipped around letters? You know, that's the cross we bear.
Culap Vilaisak
It's true. It's true. Sue, our guest today. Oh, boy, oh, boy. First and foremost, she is gorgeous. All caps, all caps, all caps. I mean, she could have been good at math, but she realized early on that her good looks meant she didn't have to be.
Sujin Pak
This is what I tell my daughter every day.
Culap Vilaisak
Keep working on that skin.
Sujin Pak
Yeah, yeah, yeah. Don't work so hard.
Culap Vilaisak
Don't work so hard. She's also a podcaster TV writer and producer, most recently having been on the ABC drama A Million Little Things. Her podcast have been enjoyed by tens over the last 15 years. And right now you can hear her and her hilarious husband Andy on their weekly show nobody's Listening, Right. Where they truly talk like no one's listening. And their new daily news show, which is number 40. They have charted 40 in Daily News podcast called Nobody's News, where they discuss the soft hitting news. Sue. Soft hitting news.
Sujin Pak
That's all I want from around the globe.
Culap Vilaisak
Soft, gentle, precious, fluffy. Okay, this is the stuff that no one else is talking about. Please add to cart. My dear friend, the one, the only, Elizabeth Lay.
Elizabeth Lame
Oh, my gosh, I am so honored to be here. And I was craving that co op slash Oprah intro, so thank you so much.
Culap Vilaisak
It's truly bizarre and unexplainable. Why you haven't been on the podcast, I don't know. I don't know.
Sujin Pak
We needed to be seasoned, okay. And burnt to a crisp in the best of ways.
Culap Vilaisak
Yes, we. You're a vegetarian, but we are beef jerky, so choo choo, choo, chew on us.
Sujin Pak
And so we just wanted to be right. Ready to set the table correctly.
Elizabeth Lame
Yeah, this does feel like the right time for me to be here because I honestly am not like a huge consumer, but lately I've fallen in love with some things. So when I got to make my list of products and things that I'm into, it was so exciting. Okay. Okay.
Culap Vilaisak
Wow, Brizzy. Before we get to that, though, you're an OG podcaster.
Elizabeth Lame
Yeah.
Culap Vilaisak
I mean, totally lame. When was that? 15 years ago.
Elizabeth Lame
2010.
Culap Vilaisak
2010. She's been doing this. She did this before Conan, before cereal even.
Elizabeth Lame
And yet still relatively unknown. It's wild.
Sujin Pak
It's wild, but I feel like that's on purpose. I feel like you do that on purpose.
Elizabeth Lame
You're mysterious, sleeper hit, long game. You know what I mean?
Sujin Pak
Just when they want to pin you down, you're like, no, I'm going to go here, talk about stuff nobody is talking about or wants to hear about.
Elizabeth Lame
Suchin. Yeah, that is. Or wants to hear about is the key thing that all of our podcasts have focused on over the last decade and a half. Oh, we know. I mean, we sit here. You can't stay away.
Culap Vilaisak
Can't stay away. The flame, of course, is this microphone in front of me.
Elizabeth Lame
Mm. And we are moths.
Culap Vilaisak
Yeah.
Sujin Pak
Nobody invited us. Nobody's asking. And yet here we sit in this circle.
Culap Vilaisak
We give ourselves permission. Masu Jinpak. I know you're wondering, how did you and Elizabeth meet? How did we meet? I know you're like, how did you guys meet? How, how, how? Well, we met through comedy, I think through podcasting.
Elizabeth Lame
Yeah. I was gonna say, did you come on totally lame. Was that possibly, like, one of the first meetings? You're so significant in my life. I'm shocked that I don't know this. But then also, there's been astrology.
Culap Vilaisak
Well, see, where we got deep, deep.
Elizabeth Lame
Deep is when up in each other's.
Culap Vilaisak
Guts, up in the guts, up in our proverbial guts was when Elizabeth and I were at Heidi Rose Robbins, a former guest of the pod. We were at her woman's retreat.
Sujin Pak
I've heard about this woman's retreat.
Culap Vilaisak
Oh, yeah.
Elizabeth Lame
A retreat that I left after. I don't know, it was a couple days and came home and I was dehydrated from losing so much tear. And also, literally, my arms were sore from holding and being held like.
Sujin Pak
This. Shoulders.
Elizabeth Lame
My chest.
Culap Vilaisak
I was just going to say that, too.
Sujin Pak
This sounds like my absolute personal health. Like, the thought that your arms could be sore from hugging and holding. I can't even step into that darkness because I will not come out of that. Of how terrifying that sounds.
Culap Vilaisak
You don't want to enter the womb of femininity. You don't want to.
Sujin Pak
I've been trying to exit that womb for 49 years. Like, get me out of this hellhole.
Elizabeth Lame
It was uncomfortable for everyone, and so you kind of just had to surrender. Surrender. I mean, you had to sink into the biceps of whoever was in front of you.
Culap Vilaisak
Biceps of so many different ages, so many different textures of biceps. Yeah, it was an intense experience, but from that intense day forged a friendship for sure. And we play weekly. Yeah, probably weekly or every two weeks, we play mahjong. She's part of the mahjong.
Sujin Pak
Oh, my goodness. You buried the headline mahjong thing.
Culap Vilaisak
I'm a storyteller. I'm a storyteller.
Sujin Pak
What is going on?
Elizabeth Lame
Suchin. It's my entire life, and entertainment, obviously, has been hit hard. It is. My income right now is winning these $2 hands in mahjong. And when it's not weekly, my whole orbit feels like thrown into flux. It's very important. And Coolop is like my right hand gal. Have you noticed that we've frequently been positioned where I'm on your left, you're on my right.
Culap Vilaisak
Oh, wow.
Elizabeth Lame
Have you thought about that?
Culap Vilaisak
I mean, I guess so. I guess, you know, I feel safer.
Elizabeth Lame
In that configuration when, like, Things are going to go my way and your way, but my way mostly.
Culap Vilaisak
I mean, it's tough, though, because the last couple games that we've played, it hasn't. Elizabeth is a major threat. Know that first and foremost. But they've gone more my way and less Riz's way. And now just because of that.
Elizabeth Lame
And how are we sitting? How were we sitting?
Culap Vilaisak
Just to bring up the name of another former guest and friend, Daniel Schneider, Suchin Pak. Daniel Schneider, for her birthday this year, received from Matt Besser, or maybe it was for Christmas from her husband, Matt Besser. One of those fancy mah jong tables, the automated ones that, like a robot in the table shuffles it and spits it out. Like, have you seen these on Instagram, Sue?
Sujin Pak
I mean, I don't need to see it because I can visualize it very, very clearly. And I just. I don't know. How do you feel about the. The level that you guys are going on? I thought pickleball was kind of kooky and fun and quirky. And this is like, I'm just gonna. Hands up. You know what I mean? Because I. I don't know where to even get in.
Elizabeth Lame
I don't question.
Sujin Pak
I don't even know how far this can go because I think you guys are just in the beginning stages of this lifestyle.
Elizabeth Lame
I hope you're right. God, I hope you're right.
Sujin Pak
Cause I see in the future you guys are doing retreats, you're doing well.
Culap Vilaisak
That future is. You know what I mean? You're traveling. The future is this week. In a couple days, we are going to a friend's vacation home and to play mahjong together for more time than we do.
Elizabeth Lame
I'm so curious how our eyes and brains are gonna handle this weekend away, because we're getting there at, like, 11:30. Gaming starts at noon. You know, we're in. And by the way, Suchin, these are all, like, very close friends. Obviously, we all love each other. There's not that much, like, catching up. I just randomly heard, like, one of my friends booked a role. I had no idea. I've spent more time with her recently than in all of my other years combined. And we just get down to the tiles.
Culap Vilaisak
We just get down to the tiles. And sue, we are not our best selves. To be clear, we as collectively yet individually regress in such a way and snipe at each other.
Sujin Pak
And so you decided that these weekly snipings and tearing down wasn't enough, that what you were going to do, sequester Yourself, unhydrated, unhinged, out in the desert.
Elizabeth Lame
You nailed it. It sounds like heaven.
Sujin Pak
Really not even have brakes poking at each other. If this isn't friendship, get out.
Elizabeth Lame
That's exactly right. I'm making a ranch dip with ruffles have ridges. We'll have that tableside, you know, so we can sustain ourselves as we go.
Culap Vilaisak
Nibblings. Yes, nibbles and such. Yeah, I know, Sue, I know. And I'd loved. I'd love to teach you the game, Sue. I'd love for you get into this. Yeah, I think you could do it. I think you'd be great at it. No, she's shaking her head and her shake was almost primal, like it came from within, like from her root chakra out.
Sujin Pak
We don't have enough time to. For me to list the ways in which this is not for me. And I say that because I honor what you guys are doing. And me even trying to contemplate, oh, could I, you know, pop in and out is just going to piss everybody off.
Culap Vilaisak
I think you're right. Yeah, I think you're right. I think you're right. I actually hear June Dayan Rayfield's voice right now. And yeah, I think you're right.
Sujin Pak
Mostly I'm picturing June.
Culap Vilaisak
And that's fair. I think that's fair.
Elizabeth Lame
That is fair. June is the barrier to entry. Like, to get into the game, you have to face June Diane Rayfield teaching you. And it's not for the faint of heart. Like, it's. It's very hardcore. So I think that she's popping up into all of our minds for good reason.
Culap Vilaisak
All right, let's get off of mahjong because we're gonna get on it in a few days. Me and Elizabeth, we like to ask our guests when they come on, how do you add to cart? You had mentioned you generally don't consume that much. Can you speak more on that?
Elizabeth Lame
Yeah, we have a very small house here and I'm a double Virgo and I like to have everything in its place and I like to like get my kind of go tos down and keep it very minimal. So I feel like what I buy I established like years ago in my life and I just kind of re up on it as I go for like products and stuff like that. But I, like every other red blooded American woman, use Amazon. Yes. But I am trying to buy more stuff, you know, off that sweet easy train. And so some of the things on my cart are Amazon and some things are small businesses that I'm stoked to support. And also, as I mentioned, mahjong is my source of income, which while fruitful for me has not been bountiful. Yes. For the accounts, you know, the way things were going. And then the way things have been going, there was a shift. So I'm trying to keep things, you know, on the tight and right. Yes. Vaginal financial rejuvenation. Keeping it tight and right.
Culap Vilaisak
Well, that's the title of this episode. Thank you, Elizabeth. Lame.
Sujin Pak
And we're done. That's all we needed from you.
Culap Vilaisak
And you've delivered.
Elizabeth Lame
Retreat. This is wonderful.

Sujin Pak
Yeah.
Culap Vilaisak
Okay, let's start off with what I assume is they're all add to carts. These are all things you've added. There's nothing you've said, no thank you.
Sujin Pak
Just a positive gal.
Elizabeth Lame
Yeah.
Culap Vilaisak
Okay. Okay, so let's start.
Elizabeth Lame
I want to add, let's go with.
Culap Vilaisak
Glassed over candle in Tara.
Elizabeth Lame
I've got it going right here.
Culap Vilaisak
Gorgeous.
Elizabeth Lame
It is the best smelling candle I've ever encountered.
Culap Vilaisak
Wow.
Sujin Pak
Okay, tell us about it.
Culap Vilaisak
I've not heard of glassed over candles. How did you come across this?
Elizabeth Lame
So I have a cabin that we are trying to sell and our real estate agent up there did such a fantastic job of staging it and looking at like very, very stylish people live there and faking people out. It hasn't sold so I don't know how if the candle's pulling its weight. But when we were there Last I was like, I'm just going to light these candles and try to feel like the people who live like this might feel. And boy, oh, boy, it delivered. It is such a great smell. It's a wax soy candle made in California from recycled wine bottles. So you can feel real good about that. And I just love it. So I'd like everyone to have one.
Sujin Pak
The notes are sandalwood, violet, black cypress. It's an earthy musk scent. It's supposed to be calming grounding. And for you and your real estate agent, luxurious, because that's where the money is going to come in.
Elizabeth Lame
I really feel that in feeding the swag, it's so hard to describe, but it is all of those things. It is. It really is. They nailed it.
Culap Vilaisak
I love it.
Sujin Pak
32 bucks.
Culap Vilaisak
32 bucks.
Sujin Pak
You know how much candles are going for with these notes these days? Stop. I mean, it's literally burning money.
Culap Vilaisak
80 hours time. And then.
Sujin Pak
Have you tried? Because I haven't. And I'm very excited. Elizabeth. I'm building my own she shed.
Culap Vilaisak
She's moving away from her family. I mean, it's nice it's on this property, but I am moving.
Elizabeth Lame
Oh, congratulations.
Sujin Pak
And my husband move in day. I mean, like, the whole language has changed and nobody has even batted. And I. Yeah. Because the shift happened. This thing has been in the making for years. And in my.
Elizabeth Lame
Surely you'll visit, like, from time to time.
Sujin Pak
You'll visit, of course, because nobody's allowed to visit there. What's open my window right now is outdoor dog gates, because dogs and children will not be allowed back there. Children maybe on occasion, with permission, but that's not the point. The point is about this candle. I'm excited. Have you tried those candle warmer lamps?
Elizabeth Lame
No.
Sujin Pak
Do you know about this?
Culap Vilaisak
Yeah.
Sujin Pak
Because I want to get one of those from my she shed and then get this.
Elizabeth Lame
Oh, you absolutely should. I don't know what it is, but it sounds perfect.
Culap Vilaisak
Rizzi, when I describe this to you, you might. You might add the scarf because you can use it a number of ways.
Sujin Pak
Yeah.
Elizabeth Lame
So.
Sujin Pak
And this candle will last you, you know, much longer.
Elizabeth Lame
Yes.
Culap Vilaisak
So instead of like lighting your candle, you're putting sort of a. It looks just like a little lamp. It's an overhead heat lamp so that it kind of like it melts it at a really even. And so the smell wafts. You don't have to deal with, like any type of fire. But then the other pieces. What if you have some queso, you need to warm up.
Elizabeth Lame
Oh, I didn't see that warm. It's like at the restaurant, those heat lamps.
Culap Vilaisak
That's not why they made it, but that's. That's awesome. It's a little off book. It's a little hack. I've been seeing this on Instagram. You want to warm up your queso, you know, push that candle out, then.
Elizabeth Lame
Your house, your little healthy queso.
Sujin Pak
Smell like queso?
Culap Vilaisak
Not if you eat it fast.
Elizabeth Lame
And what is wrong with that?
Sujin Pak
And what is wrong with that? Well, Elizabeth, I don't see you burning queso candles, so I'm gonna have to call that out for what it is. But listen, we're saving money. We're making the things that we love last longer. I hear you when you say that. This is how you've always been. This is how I aspire to be. So, anyway, I just bring that up. I haven't tried it.
Elizabeth Lame
I think that's great.
Sujin Pak
I guess brought it on as, like, game changers. So I'm ready for that.
Elizabeth Lame
I'll be honest. Like, I'm newly entering that candle life. This broke me to the other side because I'm actually very sensitive to scents as well. But I love a nice. I do love a nice scent. Cool up. You always smell great. Thank you. You're very good at scent. And so I am gonna get one of those lamps also. I don't know if you guys know this, but open flames can be tough here.
Culap Vilaisak
Yeah, yeah. It's come up. It's come up late. All of January.
Sujin Pak
Ladies, ladies. We are moved into the new year. Oh, let's just for now, at this moment in time.
Elizabeth Lame
Yeah, okay. Anyway, yes, I will be adding that to cart.
Sujin Pak
Thank you.
Culap Vilaisak
I am excited to talk about this next add to Cart because I know I need a deep dive because as Elizabeth mentioned, we don't really talk to one another while we play mahjong. But it has also come up that Elizabeth is God level at Tetris. So what is Tetris effect connected for PS5?
Elizabeth Lame
Oh, my God. I am so excited to introduce you and your listeners to this. If you don't have it. So it's Tetris, but it's Tetris on steroids. It's a Tetris we know and love from childhood. But on PS5, they have the new player. What's that called? The things you hold.
Culap Vilaisak
Controller.
Elizabeth Lame
Controller. Thank you. And it vibrates now when the blocks lock into place and, like, cool graphics are happening. And the sound. I mean, you will fall asleep with the blocks dropping and the sound playing. And it's scientifically proven to help lessen the effects of ptsd.
Sujin Pak
Tetris.
Elizabeth Lame
Look this up, it will blow your mind. And so it makes it okay to play a lot because.
Sujin Pak
Did the study say that, too? At the end, then all of them got together and say, quote, it's okay to play a lot.
Elizabeth Lame
Now, those are the technical terms.
Culap Vilaisak
Ptsd.
Sujin Pak
We all have ptsd.
Culap Vilaisak
All right. Sorry.
Sujin Pak
We're women.
Elizabeth Lame
Yes, exactly. It's unpacked.
Sujin Pak
Yeah. But DNA passed on like cows who shall not approach the electric fence.
Elizabeth Lame
You know, that's exactly right. And so I am healing generational trauma, Correct? That's right. By my copious amounts of Tetris playing, it has become a source of tension in our home. Okay. My husband and I do like to play it. Typically, we'll play it after dinner. I am really, really, really, really good at it to the degree that Andy, my husband, has nominated himself to be my coach to take me all the way. I'm sorry.
Culap Vilaisak
I'm so sorry. Oh, my God.
Sujin Pak
Wait, for real, though, there has to be a Tetris tournament. I mean, I think this mahjong. We talked about finances. We talked about tightening up our vaginal finances.
Elizabeth Lame
Yes. Yes.
Culap Vilaisak
I mean, yeah. Is there a Vegas tournament?
Elizabeth Lame
There is. The issue is that the way that those people play is very different from this Tetris effect. Connected. Now, June, Dianne Raphael has already approached me about becoming a twitch player. Yes. Like, repping me on twitch.
Culap Vilaisak
I mean, June is like, She's. She always has at least sort of, like, ghostly shoulder pads on if she's not wearing a blazer. Like, this is a boss bitch.
Sujin Pak
Yeah. The second question is, what's the business here? But, Elizabeth, I mean, if you should at all feel inclined, I would love it if I could see this in action. Just even, like, 15 seconds of what it looks like when a professional plays Tetris. Connected for PS5. Like, I want to see.
Elizabeth Lame
You got it. Like, you've just. You have no idea how overjoyed I am to get this footage to you, because it is. My personal best is that I have cleared 254 lines. Now, that is, from what I've seen, world record territory.
Culap Vilaisak
Okay. Thank you for that. I didn't know. I don't know.
Sujin Pak
Again, he's taken her all the way. Okay.
Elizabeth Lame
He's taken me all the way. That's at a level 24.
Culap Vilaisak
When you had two patients in our household, did you expect that he.
Elizabeth Lame
Oh, no. The tension is with our children. So I'm looking at it like we're teaching Them shared suffering is very bonding for siblings and they both hate that. I play this with a passion and when I'm like, I'm getting on Tetris, they're like. And get very annoyed and I'm like, it's so weird that that's the time they need attention most. But I explained this is mommy's time. I'm healing generational trauma.
Sujin Pak
This is mommy's training. This is how she made it for.
Culap Vilaisak
She said, I think I need a she shed.
Sujin Pak
Yeah, you need a Tetris shed. I'm excited. I mean, just when you said your husband wants to take you all the way there, I was like, oh, I need to like this isn't just like a ha ha. She can fill out a crossword. And I have a feeling this footage is going to blow my mind.
Elizabeth Lame
I hope it does. I don't know how it will read. I really want you both to play it.
Culap Vilaisak
Okay.
Elizabeth Lame
So that you can have an understanding of just how good I am.
Culap Vilaisak
Oh, so we are to play it and suck so that in.
Elizabeth Lame
In the dark we see the light.
Sujin Pak
You know, is in world record territory. I mean it just is. You know, you are healing all of our traumas that the rate that you're going, it's through osmosis or something. I'm plugged in, you know what I mean? Through your game playing. I may be healing as we speak, just in your presence.
Elizabeth Lame
Oh, I love that. Okay. So I've kind of stocked over stored healing.
Sujin Pak
Yeah, it's just. You're that good. You know the thing is, is I'm not a game person on any level. So I love hearing about. And your friend, this whole group of people.
Elizabeth Lame
Yeah.
Sujin Pak
Are competitive AF game players. And that's just. I go really kind of doll eyes blank when any game is mentioned. So this is very exciting for me to watch. I love watching people get really into it.
Elizabeth Lame
You might love it. You actually might love it. Yeah. Because it's a unique beast. Tetris.
Culap Vilaisak
Elizabeth, you're a talented writer and if you were looking for, you know, your version of Million Dollar Baby, it's a.
Elizabeth Lame
Middle aged perimenopausal woman who is going to take the Tetris world by storm and dark. Night of the soul is when like my children custody might be taken away momentarily. But I'll come back from it, you know, neglect from hours of Tetris.
Culap Vilaisak
Well, obviously they would be the voice of God.
Elizabeth Lame
Yes. They're saying my mom at first, what I thought was terrible. This is them. Years later we see the whole Flashbacks.
Sujin Pak
Yeah, it's told. You find out from their point of view and you know you've passed on. That's going to be sort of like the, you know, the shocker in the end, knowing that this is being told from the future about the past.
Culap Vilaisak
That's right.
Elizabeth Lame
And the way my daughter connects with me is, to her surprise, through playing.
Culap Vilaisak
Tetris, all the pieces fit together. Oh, gosh.
Sujin Pak
In the end, the movie poster.
Elizabeth Lame
Pieces to pieces. Pieces to pieces. I just got chills.
Culap Vilaisak
First, maybe you do the documentary, then that. Then you've got ip, then you do the feature.
Elizabeth Lame
This is what you have to do out here in these streets.
Culap Vilaisak
You gotta hustle, baby.
Elizabeth Lame
Yes.
Culap Vilaisak
No.
Sujin Pak
I was in a writer's room today.
Elizabeth Lame
This is what it takes.
Culap Vilaisak
This is what it takes. Okay, let's talk about the very, I'm gonna guess, super double Virgo item. Appointed day planner.
Elizabeth Lame
Oh, yeah. Oh, I left mine over there. Is my entire life in one book. Like, I can't do digital. That's how sue is. Oh, Sue.
Sujin Pak
Nothing is digital in my life.
Elizabeth Lame
Unfortunately, it's hard. I now have to because my husband, he's forcing me to put things into our shared calendar just so that we don't get lines crossed and stuff. But if I lost this appointed day planner, like, my entire everything is bye, bye.
Sujin Pak
Oh, yeah.
Elizabeth Lame
And in some ways, that's liberating. Like, what if I lost it? I'm a blank page, baby.
Sujin Pak
Then it just makes sense.
Culap Vilaisak
So you want me to steal it? Are you asking for me to?
Sujin Pak
Kind of.
Elizabeth Lame
Maybe if I text you porcupine, can you arrange, you know, if I reach. That's like, rock bottom.
Sujin Pak
It's interesting that you say that because I too am a planner person. That, like, as I move into middle age and, like, intense brain fog and kind of. I never thought about this, but this is my brain in spiral notebook form. Like, if I lost and I started blank slate tomorrow, it would literally have to be a blank slate. Like, it couldn't be me being like, okay, let me fill in what I lost. It's like, no, I'm starting over. My name is. Here's my birthday. Here's my phone number. Let's start here.
Elizabeth Lame
Yes, absolutely. So another thing about it, this company makes beautiful notebooks and stuff like that. And I mean, I'll flash to, like, here's this week. I love a post it note. I throw them in there constantly. But here's the thing is appointed, these come out every year and they have a bunch of different colors. And last year was a hard Year for me and many. I made a huge mistake. And I got like, a chocolate brown. And Andy said, huh? Like, that's an interesting color. Like when I got it. And I was like, it's different, but it's cool. Well, I think that set the stage for the whole poopy year. I don't.
Culap Vilaisak
Please don't take that on.
Elizabeth Lame
No, no, it's right. And then this year, I got a beautiful lavender. Now, we haven't gotten to the lavender fields part of this year yet, but it's off in the distance. This waiting.
Sujin Pak
It's this weekend. You're about to start the lavender field.
Elizabeth Lame
Yes.
Sujin Pak
Era.
Culap Vilaisak
I just kind of want to drill down a little bit just so our listeners get to understand, because I think a weekend seems normal. These old bitties are doing it Thursday through Saturday. Like, we're leaving on Saturday and Elizabeth leaving on Friday. So it's a midweek. It's a midweek chant. It's not.
Sujin Pak
Yeah, it's work week. Yeah, you guys are really working.
Elizabeth Lame
Clocking in, clocking in, clocking out. Yes, indeed.
Culap Vilaisak
The minds. The mahjong minds.
Sujin Pak
I love that. Like, I never even thought about the color that. That. Because it's with you for the whole year.
Elizabeth Lame
It is. It's with you for the whole year. And I love how stiff it is that. The beginning and then by the end. And I know this sounds sexual, and it is. By the end, it's. Yeah. It's like, got some life to it. It's a little beat up. You can get them monogrammed. So I just love this company. Appointed.
Culap Vilaisak
Appointed. I was not familiar with it right now. It's normally $40. It's $32 for the 20, 25.
Elizabeth Lame
That makes sense. We're a third into the year.
Sujin Pak
I would say that discount is not enough.
Elizabeth Lame
I would agree.
Culap Vilaisak
It's American made. It really is very gorgeous. And this would also be such a good gift, a good Christmas gift. Don't you think, Sue?
Sujin Pak
I think I'm not talking about Christmas at this point in time.
Culap Vilaisak
I tried to trick her. Rizzy. I tried to trick her.
Elizabeth Lame
That's what you just witnessed. I love it.
Culap Vilaisak
I wanted her to walk into my trap.
Elizabeth Lame
Cue is Christmas.
Culap Vilaisak
She didn't do it. She didn't do it. Okay, we're gonna take another break. This is our second break, if you've been counting. And we'll be right back with Elizabeth Lame Carters. I'm so excited to share this incredible book I just finished with you. Boat Baby is a memoir about family, resilience and the promise of what America can be. As you follow Vicky Nguyen's unlikely journey from refugee to NBC News anchor and correspondent, Vicki and her family were among Vietnam's boat people families fleeing the communist government in search of freedom. But leaving Vietnam to start a new life in America is only half the story. Figuring out how to be American is the other. With heart and humor, Vicky celebrates her parents grit and resilience, shares childhood misadventures and talks openly about combating stereotyping throughout her career and her struggle to be a dutiful daughter. Olivia Munn calls Boat Baby a love letter to all immigrant families. And Hoda Kotb says it reads like a thriller and a love story and a how to on finding your voice. Boat Baby available wherever books are sold.

We are back on Add to Cart. I'm your auntie Cuckoo. What's your name, Auntie?
Sujin Pak
Auntie Shushu.
Culap Vilaisak
And we're with what's your name? Rizzy.
Elizabeth Lame
Auntie Rizrus.
Sujin Pak
Champion of the world.
Culap Vilaisak
Oh, yeah. Undefeated. Let's manifest this.
Sujin Pak
That's what I imagine that the game is sounding like. No, stop.
Elizabeth Lame
Oh, no. But.
Sujin Pak
Well, then forget it. I'm not interested in the footage.
Elizabeth Lame
No, but you'll, you're like not that far off. But I'm sending you footage. Don't worry. I'm sending you.
Culap Vilaisak
Yeah. After we record, I'll put us on a text chain and so we'll be getting that asap.
Elizabeth Lame
Yes, asap.
Culap Vilaisak
Let's talk about another item that you are adding to cart. And this is the Malixir lip butter.
Elizabeth Lame
Correct.
Sujin Pak
She's holding it in her hand kids.
Elizabeth Lame
I love this shit. So I have like almost every color. Oh, I have dry lips. I'll admit it. And thank you for being vulnerable. I've done so much work on Tetris to be able to admit this. I love this stuff. I believe it's a Korean company. We know they know skincare and it's moisturizing and it gives you just the right amount of color but it's not like thick or heavy or drying. It's very. It's your like throw on for the day and I love it.
Culap Vilaisak
This is a vegan lip butter. It's $15. Wow.
Sujin Pak
No petroleum, no beeswax. And it uses highlighting, agave and shea butter.
Culap Vilaisak
Wow, wow, wow.
Elizabeth Lame
All the good stuff. It's really great.
Sujin Pak
Now, Elizabeth, I am slowly but surely working my way through all of my lip products, some which have been with me since TRL to go.
Elizabeth Lame
Yeah, that would be the early aughts.
Culap Vilaisak
If anyone else was keeping track.
Sujin Pak
Go just with my lip products to go non toxic because I feel I'm just everything else, I have less problem.
Elizabeth Lame
Talks it up.
Sujin Pak
Yeah, talks it up. But it's just like the eating of it. I feel like I'm literally eating my lipsticks.
Elizabeth Lame
It's a great place to start.
Sujin Pak
This is kind of an amazing place to start.
Elizabeth Lame
Suchin you will love this stuff. I am telling you. You both must be annoyed with guests coming on and I now feel like I'm trying to sell.
Culap Vilaisak
No, no, no. I love this. This is what I want.
Elizabeth Lame
This is the dream of the podcast, this stuff. I think I was looking for like vegan or no animal cruelty. Lips balms, color lip balms because Kiehl's ran out of the ones that they discontinued the one I used to use and I found this and it is so much better than Kiehl's and now I'm just obsessed with it getting the word out. So go for it. And it's inexpensive. You can buy like every color and figure out what works for you. It's 15 bucks for a thing that lasts for a very long time and it's really great.
Culap Vilaisak
I am so down. Wow. And you said you have a lot of colors.
Elizabeth Lame
Yeah, I think I have almost all the colors except for the clear because I do use Kiehl's just clear lip balm. But I haven't done too much heavy lifting to make sure it's a good company. But it seems like it is based on just the information.
Sujin Pak
The font, the design tells you a lot.
Elizabeth Lame
The packaging design is just tells me A lot.
Culap Vilaisak
Now you sound like me.
Sujin Pak
You are right. It is. Let's see. I just read about their packaging. It's. It's a very environmentally friendly packaging is.
Elizabeth Lame
What I read about it.
Sujin Pak
Now I can't find what. Where I found that, but it is great. This is good journalism happening in real time.
Elizabeth Lame
We're all really in real time getting the answers.
Culap Vilaisak
Well, here I found it immediately when I looked at it. It said, our packaging is made with 25% PCR. Post consumer recycled plastic to minimize environmental impact by reusing plastic waste. That's right. And there you go.
Sujin Pak
AAPI founder, Hannah Lee.
Culap Vilaisak
Okay, great.
Sujin Pak
We're basically the boxes.
Elizabeth Lame
It would be criminal not to buy this product. Like, you're hurting the earth if you don't buy this.
Sujin Pak
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Culap Vilaisak
Wow. Okay. This is amazing. Adding to cart, adding to cart. Adding to cart. Rizzy. What's your skincare? I'm just curious. Like, are we.
Elizabeth Lame
I do tretinoin at night, which is a prescription retinol or something. And then I do. I like La Roche. Just like regular moisturizer. I keep it pretty simple. So it's Tret La Roche. I almost included this in my thing. Trader Joe's makes a sunscreen that comes in a yellow box. They make a few, but you need this one. And it's like a goop dupe, and it's really silky. It's almost like a makeup primer is what it feels like. And so I use that every morning, and that's kind of it.
Sujin Pak
And then your vegan lip butter.
Elizabeth Lame
Yeah, I throw this on. I do like a YSL Touche Clat, like light eye thing, some mascara, and that's really it.
Sujin Pak
It's red carpet.
Elizabeth Lame
Red carpet, I think very French.
Culap Vilaisak
You know, you could throw a cat eye in there, maybe a little bit of eyeliner, and then you're done.
Elizabeth Lame
I would love that. I did just add to cart some frownies because I'm starting to.
Sujin Pak
What's a frowny?
Elizabeth Lame
It's like this piece of tape that you pay more for, and then you put it on where your wrinkle is.
Sujin Pak
And so it keeps you from getting those 11s.
Elizabeth Lame
Yes. So I've got them and I'm trying to, like, reverse engineer my skin by taping it at night. It hasn't taken yet, but I hope it will.
Sujin Pak
I've seen that, of course, but, like. And I know it would be very strange to be walking around with tape during the day, but wouldn't it make more sense to have it on during the day when you're actually making those.
Elizabeth Lame
Frownies, you would look absolutely batshit crazy. Like, it is kind of a big red piece of tape.
Culap Vilaisak
It's red.
Elizabeth Lame
Yeah, that stuff. Last night, there was a neighbor's truck was on fire. Okay, keep going. This is at like 2:30am and so I. There was a fire truck. And, you know, a lot of hullabaloo happening. And I guess when a truck burns, like, the horn goes off for a very long time. So it was very weird. The horn was going off. So I went outside forgetting that I had a death whale. Yes. Forgetting I had all this tape all over my face. And I must have looked. Now, I think they had other priorities at the time and probably weren't too concerned with your red tape.
Culap Vilaisak
More about the red flames. Yeah, sure.
Elizabeth Lame
Yeah. But I did. When I came back in, I was like, oh, my gosh, I look absolute. I also was in pajama pants and socks and flip flops and all of that. Everyone's okay, but careful with those flames. Everyone should get a heat candle lamp.
Culap Vilaisak
Yeah, that's right. If only that truck was parked underneath the candle warmer.
Sujin Pak
And that's the lesson that we three are giving to.
Culap Vilaisak
That's our TED Talk.
Sujin Pak
That's our TED Talk. Put it under a heat lamp.
Culap Vilaisak
Put it under a heat lamp.
Sujin Pak
Yeah.
Culap Vilaisak
Put down those matches.
Sujin Pak
Yeah.
Elizabeth Lame
Yes.
Culap Vilaisak
Rizzi, let's talk about this beverage we love. Aunties love a beverage. And you have brought to us Trader Joe's Ginger Lime Sparkling Apple Cider Vinegar beverage.
Elizabeth Lame
Thank you for saying it that way. Cause that's how it should be said. Have y'all had this?
Culap Vilaisak
No. And it sounds delicious.
Elizabeth Lame
It is so fucking good.
Culap Vilaisak
Really.
Elizabeth Lame
It's so refreshing. It has, like, the vinegar makes it almost like a mocktail. So I do have it around, like, 5:00 when I'm starting to cook dinner. And I. What I really want is a cocktail. But I don't usually drink during the week. And so I just throw one of these on ice. And it is so, so delicious. And I think that you can convince yourself, similar to the packaging on this lip balm, that it's healthy. Like, because there's vinegar.
Sujin Pak
Yeah.
Elizabeth Lame
Apple cider. The mother. You know the mother of apple cider vinegar?
Culap Vilaisak
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Sujin Pak
No, I'm reading it. And there's no sugar. There's no added sugar in it. It's all coming from fruit. And you've got to be drinking the mother at least once a day, if not three times a day.
Culap Vilaisak
They're shrubs, which is an Old English word for a drink. That incorporates some zany vinegar, which is great for the. The gut, the microbiome.
Sujin Pak
But I like the way that you're thinking about this, which is, hey, great, have a glass of wine here and there. But if you're trying to cut back a little and you still need that something, a mocktail, to have this in the afternoon for that, you know, just to let you know that you're still alive and you're still fun.
Elizabeth Lame
Yes, you're still fun. And I think the first time we had this was our friend, my Andy has cut back on drinking, which I find annoying. Just kidding. I think it's great. But he. At a friend's house, they offered him this. And it is a really nice thing to have if you have friends who don't drink or are sober to have something that is fun and delightful. And they need to have fun too.
Culap Vilaisak
They need flavor.
Elizabeth Lame
They need flavor.
Culap Vilaisak
This is a hot tip. This is a hosting tip.
Elizabeth Lame
It is.
Culap Vilaisak
Now, your husband used to have a beverage podcast. Is that still up and running?
Elizabeth Lame
No, it's not. You went on that, didn't you, Kulab?
Culap Vilaisak
I did.
Elizabeth Lame
That was such a fun show. Totally. Beverages and sometimes hot sauce. Had a good run a couple years. But I think things crashed and burned when me and his co host, Josh's wife, Carol went on and we did a breast milk shootout taste test to see if we could guess whose was whose. All four of us tried it.
Culap Vilaisak
Oh, God.
Sujin Pak
I need a frowny tape for my face right now. Just thinking about that. I need it all over my face. I need the full mask. And that was the last episode.
Elizabeth Lame
No, no, they kept going. But I think that once you've done that, like, where did you go?
Culap Vilaisak
Yeah, that's jumping the kitty shark all.
Sujin Pak
The way to the top.
Elizabeth Lame
Yes.
Sujin Pak
You took it there.
Elizabeth Lame
You took it there.
Sujin Pak
Wow.
Elizabeth Lame
Tony saying, who won? Well, I'll tell you, this was awkward. Now, we were indifferent. My kid was older, you know, I had like an eight month old. And Carol had a brand new little guy. One was pretty funky and one was. I think we described it as like country club.
Sujin Pak
Ew.
Elizabeth Lame
And I was. I knew the whole time. I was like, mine's the funky one. Mine's. And then it turns out I was country club, so.
Culap Vilaisak
Well, yours is vintage.
Sujin Pak
Yours is one champ. She's been drinking the mother. You don't think that her juice is.
Elizabeth Lame
Gonna be country club.
Sujin Pak
When you're sipping on Mother sue, we.
Culap Vilaisak
Talk about what the juice of life is.
Sujin Pak
And Elizabeth, I don't want to do that.
Elizabeth Lame
What is it?
Sujin Pak
It's not that.
Culap Vilaisak
It's not. It's her titty milk. She's got. It's in her.
Sujin Pak
Ew.
Elizabeth Lame
Oh, yeah. That's the juice of life. That's. I mean, really.
Sujin Pak
Please, let's not belabor this.
Culap Vilaisak
Wow. On that note, that's our show.
Sujin Pak
On that let you know.
Elizabeth Lame
Let's not belabor. This is the title of this episode.
Sujin Pak
God, I actually do feel a little nauseous. So good.
Elizabeth Lame
Sorry, Sue. What a journey we've had.
Culap Vilaisak
Oh God, what a show. What a party. Elizabeth, where can we find and follow you?

Culap Vilaisak
The end of edge in Trump's America?
Sujin Pak
Sure, sure, sure, sure, sure. Let's make America not what that ending was.
Culap Vilaisak
Bye bye, bye.
