I'm flipping my pillow every 10 minutes to find the cool side and eventually I just end up with one foot in and one foot out to regulate my body. But I recently realized that it's not just me, it's also my bedding. Heat trapping sheets and duvets are a recipe for a restless night. And no matter how tired you are, I cannot get jiggy. Witty. Somewhere along the line, very early in life, actually, most of us were taught that celebration had to be earned. But what if that celebratory joy was a form of self respect and not a reward? We've been taught that celebration is reserved for highlight reel moments. The things that take time, take effort, take sacrifice and patience to accomplish the degree, the ring, the new job, the perfect body. And we wait until the world claps before we let ourselves feel proud. But what if you decide to clap for yourself now? What if joy wasn't something that you had to earn, but something you simply allowed to happen? What about that Tuesday when you woke up and you chose peace? The Thursdays when you made your favorite matcha just right? Or the quiet nights when you caught yourself smiling for no reason at all other than you were happy? For me, life is always about the sprinkles on top, not just the big cake moments. And I'll admit I wasn't always like this. But now I believe in lighting the good candle, even if no one is coming over. Come on, somebody. I also believe in buying myself flowers. Not from a man, not for an event. Just because it's Wednesday and I am alive. I believe in dancing in the kitchen while something is baking. Just because the moment deserves a little music. Because if we're always waiting for something big to validate our joy, we miss the life we're already living. And that life deserves a little confetti. Too powerful. Few things are as powerful. What is up, beautiful people? Welcome back to another pep talk Wednesday. I am Tyra the creative, your host and virtual cheerleader for the day, delivering a midweek pick me up that you have been craving. So get ready for some encouraging words and a dose of inspiration to brighten your day. Ready? Okay. When you walk into a restaurant, the first thing the hostess asks before you sit down is, what are we celebrating today? And you almost feel like you need to make something up if there's not a birthday or a graduation or a promotion on the table. But what if the celebration is just you? You waking up and choosing yourself again today. You showing up when you didn't feel like it. You laughing out loud for the first time in a week. You cooking a full meal instead of skipping dinner or eating chips on the couch. What if that stuff was the reason? We've been conditioned to treat celebration like a prize at the end of a long race. Like it has to be earned. Like we have to prove our productivity, prove our progress. Check a box. But let me tell you, celebration is not a reward. It's a rhythm. It's a mindset. It's a form of honoring who you are and how far you've come in your journey, even if you can't measure it on a piece of paper. We live in a world that will constantly tell you to wait for the big moment. Maybe people don't say that out loud, but subconsciously, that is very much so. The narrative big moments like the engagement, the job offer, the six figure milestone. But what if you stopped outsourcing your joy to milestones that take up time and energy and a thousand things to line up? What if that joy becomes a daily practice instead of a once in a while permission slip? I think of celebration like seasoning is what brings flavor to your life. And just like salt or cinnamon, it doesn't need a holiday to be added to the mix. I mean, I know we eat a lot of cinnamon during the holiday season. Christmas, Thanksgiving, y' all know. But y' all know what I mean. For me, life is all about the sprinkles and the things that make an ordinary moment feel sacred and full of joy. Like a walk outside when it's super sunny and the sun beaming on your face. Fresh flowers in your kitchen. A new playlist saying yes to some dessert. These small, intentional joys remind me that I'm not just surviving. No matter where I am in my journey, I am living. And I am living well. So if you've been waiting for a reason to smile big or to even toast to yourself, take this as your sign. The moment you're in right now, it's enough. And you're enough. Let that be the celebration. You don't need any other reason to celebrate. Okay, y' all, so I have a confession to make. As the treasurer for the Itty Bitty Titty Committee, I Want to let y' all know that I gave up on regular bras a long time ago because they were always so uncomfortable. Either the straps would dig in or the cups would have that weird gap that really got on my nerves. Now, while I said I do have a smaller chest and bad bralettes aren't exempt from this criticism either, I just always wanted something that felt good on my body. Something that worked for me instead of against me. Amen. Now I'm pretty sure I want to last people to try skims. But baby, why didn't y' all tell me that the scoop bralette from the Fits Everybody collection was so freaking good? I don't think I ever experienced fabric like this. It's buttery, soft and it's smoothing. It's like melt into your skin soft. But it still provides that support and that secure feeling without digging or pinching or weird gapping. Okay. And there are also no weirdly placed seams. And y' all know what I'm talking about. You know that over the nipple seam that pokes through your shirt, especially if you got a small chest. I absolutely hate that. But y' all, I love this bralette. It's lightweight and it moves with me, which means I can go all day without even thinking about it. And I got it in two colors and I wear them under everything. Now listen, this part is important. Shop Skims Fits Everybody Collection and more@skims.com after you place your order, be sure to let them know we sent you select podcast in the survey and be sure to select our show affirmations for black girls in the drop down menu that follows. Okay, y' all, here's what I have recently learned. Celebration doesn't have to be loud. It doesn't have to be expensive. It doesn't have to be over the top. It just has to be intentional. It has to be something that you want to do. Because for some of us, especially those of us who have spent years just trying to survive, baby, just trying to survive, celebration might not come easy to you. It might feel like it is a luxury or even a little silly or just completely uncomfortable to do. When you're not where you want to be in life. You might be thinking, I ain't got time to throw myself a party. I'm trying to pay my rent. Or I don't want to make a big deal out of nothing. Because what if people think I'm doing too much? But first of all, stop worrying about those other people. Stop worrying about if they think you're doing too much. And secondly, if you do not celebrate yourself, who will? Who will? That is your job, not nobody else's. And listen, I will be the first person to say external validation. And having people show up for you does soothe the soul, and there is no denying that. But here is the truth. You've probably gone your whole life being told to shrink again. Maybe people haven't said that directly to you, but that is the narrative in the world we live in. They have told you to tone it down, to wait your turn, to hustle first and reward will come later. So of course, celebrating yourself feels foreign, and you've never been taught how to do it without guilt or let alone seeing your loved ones do it without guilt. And that's why I've started viewing celebration as a practice and not just a personality trait or a reward. You don't need to be the life of the party. You don't need to throw confetti every time you do laundry. Unless you want to, which I fully support. Because baby, sometimes my laundry be all, yeah, y' all, we not even about to get into that. But sometimes the laundry be laundrying. Okay, and it deserves some confetti. But anyways, y' all, it can be as simple as lighting a forever mood candle when you complete a hard task or a task that you've been putting off, or a task that just took a lot out of you energetically and you need a pickme up. It can be taking yourself out for breakfast after a tough week, or even a very good week because you felt so good that you wanted to keep on celebrating, or even wearing your favorite lipstick on a random Thursday just because it makes you feel like that girl put it like this. Celebration is about interrupting your autopilot. That pattern of pushing through without pausing and saying, wait, let me honor myself for a second. Let me pour into me. And that can look a lot of different ways. It might look like journaling. It might look like a long shower with your favorite playlist blasting. And lately for me, that playlist has been the Cowboy Carter album. Yes, I Went to concert here in Los Angeles, or even my Vibe With Jesus playlist, which, y' all, I absolutely love it and I don't think I've shared it with y' all. So I'm gonna link it down below in the show notes if you want to check it out. But anyways, it could look like texting your best friend, hey, I just did something hard, girl, let's celebrate. Even if it's just a FaceTime call and a lot of us are still learning how to celebrate. And even for myself, like I'm constantly reminding myself, tyra, you have to celebrate. But if you're just getting into the mindset of celebrating without a reason, the easiest thing to do is start small. Ask yourself at the end of the day, what am I proud of today? Just start there. And don't worry about a guidebook or the right way to do it. Because, baby, there is not a right way to do it. You are not shallow for wanting to enjoy your life. You are not ungrateful for celebrating where you are while still working towards more. And you are allowed to clap for yourself now. Not when XYZ happens, but right now. Because celebration is a muscle that we all should flex a little more often. And the more you use it, the more natural it becomes. Now, you guys know every pep talk Wednesday has a challenge of the week. And I think you guys can already guess what this week's challenge will be. But for this week, I want you guys to celebrate something that no one else can see but you and celebrate it in a way that you have never done or haven't done in a long time. And that celebration doesn't have to involve spending money. Maybe. Maybe you're celebrating your consistency. Maybe you're celebrating your emotional growth. Or maybe it's just getting out of bed when you really didn't feel like it and celebrate it in a way that makes sense to you. Again, celebration don't have to take a lot of money. It can be you turning on your playlist and you jamming out for a good 30 minutes or even five minutes, it don't matter. Taking a walk and getting an ice cream or an acai bowl, baby, like sitting in the park. Okay, to making time to sniff the flowers outside. Maybe you walking down the street and you see a dog that you really like and you say, you know what? I'm treat myself today. I'm a bend over and I'm going to pet this dog. Of course, if you ask people, hey, can I pet your dog? But you guys know what I mean. But whatever it is, just honor it and mark the moment and make that moment yours. And when you do, if you can post your celebration on your story or on your Instagram feed and tag it and tag us at Affirmations for black Girls so we can cheer you on, too, because the little wins count, y' all. You do not need a reason to be joyful. Joy is the reason for the season. Amen. You don't need permission. You don't need a whole bunch of people to party with. And you don't need the perfect moment to celebrate. You just need to remember that your life is worth honoring right now. Because as we all know, we don't know how many days we have and our days are numbered. And that softness and celebration and that safety that we want to feel, they're not things that you earn after the hustle. They are your birthright. So when you light that candle, when you take that walk, when you pet that dog, when you wear that outfit, or when you look in the mirror and smile, you're teaching your nervous system that peace is allowed to live here. That rest belongs here. That delight has room in your life now, not just someday in the future. Celebrating yourself is not extra. It is essential to life. So go out and be extra, whatever that looks like for you. It could be extra big, but it can also be small. The bottom line is you deserve it. And with that being said, y' all, I hope you enjoyed this Pep Talk Wednesday. I hope you enjoy the style of it. I really want our Pep Talk Wednesdays to feel like a little pep talk, a little pick me up. That was the whole purpose behind adding in these midweek episodes. Softness and celebration are your birthright. You don't have to wait until you've hustled hard. Joy is the reason for the season. It truly is. And celebrating yourself is not extra. And you do not have to wait for other people to celebrate you, baby. That is your job. Because if we wait for somebody else to celebrate us, we'll be waiting all day. And we'll probably almost always be disappointed in the timing or in the way that they do it. So take this as your sign to celebrate yourself in a small way today. Thank y' all so much. I love y' all so much. And I'll see y' all again on next Monday. This is Affirmations for Black Girls.

Podcast Summary: Affirmations for Black Girls
Episode 417: "You Deserve to Be Celebrated. Making Joy A Habit & Celebrating Without Reason | Pep Talk Wednesdays"
Host: Tyra The Creative
Release Date: June 4, 2025
In this uplifting episode of Affirmations for Black Girls, host Tyra The Creative delves into the transformative concept of celebrating oneself without the need for traditional milestones. Breaking away from the societal norm that celebration must be earned through significant achievements, Tyra encourages listeners to incorporate joy and self-recognition into their daily lives.
Tyra [04:35]: "What if joy wasn't something that you had to earn, but something you simply allowed to happen?"
Tyra opens the discussion by questioning the ingrained belief that celebrations should be reserved for major life events—such as promotions, engagements, or personal milestones. She emphasizes that this mindset often delays self-praise and diminishes everyday joys.
Tyra [05:10]: "We've been taught that celebration is reserved for highlight reel moments."
Shifting the focus to everyday moments, Tyra shares personal anecdotes and relatable scenarios that highlight the importance of finding reasons to celebrate in the mundane. Whether it's choosing peace on a stressful day, perfecting a favorite recipe, or simply smiling without a specific reason, Tyra illustrates how these small acts contribute to overall well-being.
Tyra [07:00]: "Life is always about the sprinkles on top, not just the big cake moments."
To aid listeners in adopting this celebratory mindset, Tyra offers actionable strategies:
Intentional Acknowledgment: Recognize and honor your daily accomplishments, no matter how small.
Self-Gifting: Engage in self-care activities like buying yourself flowers or dancing in the kitchen to foster self-love.
Disrupting Autopilot: Interrupt the routine by celebrating moments intentionally, thereby creating new, positive habits.
Tyra [12:15]: "Celebration is about interrupting your autopilot. That pattern of pushing through without pausing and saying, wait, let me honor myself for a second."
Acknowledging that for many, especially those who have been conditioned to prioritize survival over self-care, celebrating oneself can feel uncomfortable or even unworthy. Tyra addresses these barriers by encouraging listeners to disregard external judgments and internalized narratives that undermine their right to joy.
Tyra [14:45]: "If you do not celebrate yourself, who will? That is your job, not nobody else's."
In line with the episode's theme, Tyra introduces the week's challenge: to celebrate something personal that others may not see. Whether it's emotional growth, consistency, or simply getting out of bed on a tough day, listeners are encouraged to honor these victories in unique and meaningful ways.
Tyra [16:30]: "For this week, I want you guys to celebrate something that no one else can see but you and celebrate it in a way that you have never done or haven't done in a long time."
Wrapping up the episode, Tyra reinforces the idea that joy and celebration are inherent rights, not rewards contingent on achievement. By adopting this perspective, listeners can cultivate a more fulfilling and resilient mindset, embracing life’s moments with grace and gratitude.
Tyra [20:10]: "Celebrating yourself is not extra. It is essential to life."
