Now y' all know whenever I go home to Louisiana, family time is everything to me. When we're all together, I'm always so grateful for that quality time. It always reminds me to take care of myself so that I can keep making memories with the people I love for years to come. And I'm ready to get even more serious about that. So I just learned about TRU Diagnostic and their True age Truhealth test, y'. All. This Ain't nothing like a grade school test. Okay, but the more research I do on it, the more I'm interested. Did you know that a single painless finger prick at home can lead you to over 180 personalized insights into your health and how you're aging? On one hand, TruHealth runs tests to look over 100 biomarkers, which is stuff like your vitamin levels and nutrient balance, your immune system, and even stuff like gut and cognitive health. On the other hand, truage goes even deeper, y'. All. Their test shows your biological age, which is the pace of your aging. And it shows how important organs and systems like your heart, your brain, your liver, and your immune system are aging. Which means I'm 30 years old, and my biological age could be more than 30, or it can even be less than 30 years old. And this test will help to show me where I'm at. So this is a full snapshot of how your body's really doing on the inside. And with an easy to read report and personalized recommendations, I honestly feel like this is a tool that can help me actually stay on top of my health and put energy into the right habits where I'm not just guessing all the time. So if you want to dig a little deeper, and if you're serious about living healthier and longer, visit truediagnostic.com and use my code affirmations for 20% off your entire order or subscription. Y' all want to know what blows my mind every single week? No matter how I feel, when it's time to hop on this microphone and talk to y', all, I get reminded that this community is just as much of the heartbeat of this podcast as I am. Y' all always share your reflections, your wins, and even your struggles after every episode. And it reminds me that this isn't just Tyra's journey. This is our journey as a community. And I am so grateful for each and every one of y'.
All.
What is going on? Beautiful people, welcome back to another pep Talk Wednesday. I am Tyra the creative, your host and virtual cheerleader for the day, delivering a midweek pick me up that you have been craving. So get ready for some encouraging words and a dose of inspiration to brighten your day.
Ready?
Okay. Now, y', all, this week's pep talk is very special. I just. I've been doing this podcast for what, three, four years now? Technically, four years, not four full years. But I started it four years ago in 2021. And this week's pep talk is extra special because it's not just my words. This week, I really wanted to take some time to share some of the things that some of you guys have been sharing with me. I wanted to just do an episode a very quick, you know, I didn't want be too much, you know what I. What I'm saying? But I wanted to do a quick episode about what this community has taught us, you know, what we have learned. And I'm going to share that through some of the very dope messages that I have gotten from you guys. So I recognize that not every DM or email or story reply or comment gets a reply because I'm just one person, y', all, and I know that you guys know that, but know that I see them and I truly appreciate them. And I always encourage you guys to continue to share whatever your thoughts are. That's why I always say that whatever part of the episode, when I want to hear your thoughts, always say, leave us a comment on, like, our social media DM us email@affirmations for black girls gmail.com because I do see them, even though I may not be able to get back to everybody in a way like I would love, because the AFBG family, we are robust, baby. Okay? We are robust. And I'm just so excited to see this little idea grow into something so amazing. But I just wanted to let y' all know that I see them and I appreciate each and every message that you guys send me. So I want to kick things off with a few reflections from the community. I found these either, you know, in a DM or an email. So I just want to go through some of them and share, because the reason that I want to do this episode, in case you're like, okay, this is just. I don't know if I want to listen to this week's pep talk. I'm sharing this because I want you guys to know just how in sync we all truly are, just how often we have the same types of experiences. So I urge you to listen through to this entire pep talk. Okay, so here's the first one. This is from Jakari. Hey, Tyra. I'm a listener from MD PG County, Maryland. Um, I've listened to your podcast for like a year now on Apple Podcasts. There are so many things that I'm like, yes, always something I needed to hear. I want to comment, but don't have the ability to do that. Just saying thanks from Afar. Love your podcast and wishing you the best, Jacari. Thank you so much. And I totally, I totally get it. Like you all, sometimes we, we want to say something or we're listening to the podcast while we're commuting or we can't, you know, get a message out total understand that and podcasts in general don't make it easy to respond directly to the thing. That's why I tell y' all to go send me an email and all of that. I think they need to add like a comment feature or something under the actual episodes. I think that'll make it so much easier for people to, like, talk about what's going on. But thank you for listening. From Marilyn Jakari. Okay, the next one is from Meline. Or Meline. I think it's Madeline. Hello, Tyra. I just recently found your podcast these last two weeks and from coming in on the most recent podcast to some of the ones I've went back and listened to, baby, you are life. Everything you are saying up into today's podcast is literally me to a T. Oh, girl, stop. I just want to say thank you. I'm heading into a journey of finding myself again and my place in this world again. And you are helping me along the way. I thank you. Thank you, you. And I appreciate you, Meline. Thank you so much. Oh my gosh. I love when someone finds the podcast and then goes and listens to previous episodes. Because one thing that has always been super important for me is to make sure that the podcast is evergreen. There's a lot of things that we can always go back and listen to. So I urge you, if you found the podcast even last year, the year before that, go back and listen to some of the older episodes. Like just scroll through, read through the titles and pick and choose what you think you can get something from. Something that can fill your cup even to this day, because I just really pride myself on having a evergreen show. Now this last one is from someone who is in her 60s. Oh my gosh. Her name is Melody. Melody says, I'm reaching out to say thank you. Your podcast helps me in ways that I cannot fully express. I'll just say that I recognize that that wisdom comes from our juniors as well as our seniors. Oh, wow. And you have helped this 60 year old sister with some of life's challenging issues. I'm very grateful for you. Keep up the outstanding work and may the creator continue to bless you. Melody, thank you so much for listening. I would never imagine that older ladies are more wise and our more seasoned sisters would enjoy the podcast as much as they do and it honestly makes my day. Anytime someone who is more seasoned in life than me says thank you, I really learned something from you because I In my head I'm just a 30 year old girl who just be talking about her experience and it has just been so fulfilling to see how my experiences have helped so many people. No matter if you're in your teens, 20s, 30s, 40s, 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s, it has just truly been such a rewarding experience and I thank each and every one of y'. All.
Now y' all know I love the host, right? So a few weeks ago I turned my apartment into an ice cream parlor and I named my ice cream parlor Honey Child.
And listen y', all, when I host.
Stuff, I do not play small, okay? I ordered a whole slushy machine and an ice cream maker which were obviously non negotiables for this event. Add in the grocery bills, the festive cups, the little details like sprinkle decals on the wall baby. It started to add up quick. But all of those purchases weren't just for one afternoon of fun. They were also helping me invest in my future thanks to the Chime Credit Builder Secured Visa Credit card. Chime understands that every dollar counts. When you set up direct deposit, you get access to fee free features like getting paid up to two days early and access to over 47,000 fee free ATMs. Every swipe I made for this party was actually helping me build my credit score. Ok. Now it feels great knowing that.
Something as simple as hosting my friends.
Can also contribute to my long term stability. Chime honestly lets me have it all y'. All. I get to live my life fully in the moment and take small steps towards a future where my credit is sure, strong and I feel secure. So whether you're planning your own party, stocking up for the back to school season, or just making your very regular degular runs to the grocery store, don't sleep on how the little things can add up. So if you're ready to make your everyday purchases count and start working on your financial goals, listen up. Make everyday purchases count with Chime's Secured Credit Builder Visa Credit Card. Work on your financial goals through Chime. Today open an account@chime.com affirmations that's chime.com affirmations Chime feels like progress. Chime is a financial technology company, not a bank. Listen, meal prepping is hard. And don't even get me started about how expensive it is to hire a nutritionist just to fig out what you should be eating.
My goal is always to eat right.
But I refuse to sacrifice flavor, baby. And sometimes I fall off. I do hit workouts, boxing and even run the occasional 5k, but when I don't fuel my body properly, I can feel it. I'll mess around and get overwhelmed, start skipping meals and then wonder why I'm dragging through the day. And as I'm getting older, it is even more important to nourish my body properly so I don't hurt myself.
So Green Chef has Lowkey been a game changer, y'?
All. Now, I know y' all have been hearing me talk about it lately, but it's basically like having a food coach in a box. Everything I need for a nutritious meal arrives at my door with properly packaged, fresh organic ingredients. And the meals are balanced, but they are never boring. I actually have loved every single one that I've tried. Now I love being able to switch it up, play with ingredients that I don't usually buy, and actually get back into enjoying the process again. And getting the four person plan leaves plenty of leftovers for easy meal prep for me. That's the one I like to get. Now what I'm loving most is that Green Chef helps me stay consistent even when I'm visiting family in Louisiana with a bunch of picky eaters, my mom and my brother. Everybody's happy because there's always something flavorful to try. It feels good knowing that I'm nourishing my body, but also enjoying the food and sharing it with the people I love. You where you are. So I gave you guys a little bit of of shorter dms or emails, but I wanted to take some time to read through a couple of the longer ones. I literally have two of them that I want to take a second to read through because I want to slow it down and hear some of the longer stories from our community. Because sometimes the deepest lessons come when we really sit with someone's journey or when we personally journal our thoughts out. So I wanted to use this moment to illustrate that through these longer, you can call them journal entries, even though they're messages to me, these journal entries from some listeners. So, first, we have one from Melissa. She says, first, I want to say that I love, love, love your podcast. I usually leave your podcast feeling inspired and motivated for change. But listen in all caps. The last episode I played completely moved me to the point where I was challenged to immediately process some of my limiting beliefs. On the Overcoming Overwhelm through Self Assessment and Reflections episode, you asked the prompt, how did you get over your first love? I quickly blurted out the words, I haven't. And then, in disbelief, I tried to rationalize with myself as to why I would have said that, even though I felt like I did get over him. I am sure I will still be processing this into next week, but for now, that was a practical start and a step forward. I hope that you can pull pieces of my story and use it for yourself, too. Thank you so much for being so obedient, open, authentic, and transparent in your podcast. I feel that God led me to this specific platform and episode to start my wholeness journey. Ooh. I appreciate you and the messages you share. Alyssa. Alyssa, baby, baby girl. We need to go out for coffee or for lunch or something and unpack this. I am so happy that that was a seed that just helped you blossom into this new journey of learning who you are in the world again. Like, I am so excited to see what your. What your process is like and where. Where you go from here. I'm just. I literally, y', all, I just be a lot at a loss for words because I, in my head, I just be talking, I just be sharing my thoughts. I just be sharing my experiences. And I am just so blessed to have each and every one of y' all support into me in this way as I pour into you, because we can't truly have a community if I'm also not getting poured into. And I've talked about this on the podcast before. I have to make sure that I filling my cup because week after week, I'm showing up for you guys. And this. These messages from y' all help me in a way that I did not know that they would, because when I started this, I was like, oh, yeah, I got a little podcast I'm just gonna, you know, talk about. I don't know whatever comes to mind. And it has just become something that a lot of you have told me that you do not want to live without. Something that has really become a safe haven for you, something that has become a practice in your whole this journey. And I'm just so excited to be a part of that. So if you haven't listened to the Overcoming Overwhelm through Self Assessment episode, I really urge you to listen to it. I just ask you a lot of prompts and those are the questions and those are the things that you use as a self assessment to see where you need to focus your attention on in your life personally. So Alyssa, thank you so much for sharing that because I probably said this in an episode. I've been there. I've been there and I know a lot of us have been there. And oh thank you so much for your message. Thank you, thank you. So we are also be hearing from another lady. Her name is Issa and Issa says hi, my name is Isadis. I think I want to say it. Please don't. If I say it wrong. I'm so sorry Isadis, but people also know me as Issa. I'm a beautiful black Puerto Rican girl living in Ohio. Hey girl. And I'm writing to say thank you. AFBG has been the boost that motivated me to take care of myself mindfully. Oh, I love that. Living far away from home and trying to pursue my dreams have been hard. I'm telling you, hard in all caps. But at the same time, I'm so proud of myself. This summer has been challenging because it was my first time not being a college student and I have been feeling stuck and frustrated for some reason. I would say it is because I'm not working in my dream job or something related to it. I've been receiving a lot of no's. I'm a big person about representation and I just want to be a good representation of a black Latina Puerto Rican woman. All these frustrating feelings affected me a lot and one day I found your podcast on Spotify. Let me tell you that for the entire month of August I have been listening from the beginning to you and writing in my journal like crazy. And even though life is still giving me some hard times, I feel a little more ready for it. Thanks to your advice and your content. It has been a life changer for me and for that I am so grateful. Thank you Tyra. Issa, girl, I am wishing you so much luck in your career field. You know you said that this is your first year not being a College student. Baby trouble don't last always. Okay, you got it. You. One thing that I definitely want to say to you is don't compare yourself to other people's journey. Don't think that you are behind because, baby, you are not. Okay? There is always time. But I wish you so much luck, especially living out there in Ohio. I really wonder where. Where you from? Are you from Puerto Rico? Are you. Did you grow up somewhere else in the States and move to Ohio? I really want to know because as you know from listening to my podcast, I grew up in the deep south, small town. And then I moved to. Well, I moved to the east coast first and then now I live in Los Angeles and I've been living in Los Angeles for seven years. But I totally relate to everything that you have been saying. I've been feeling stuck and frustrated in some areas of my life. And something that I have realized is when you are feeling that discomfort, something in your atmosphere has to change. And that could either be something that you physically change or something that is going to change on its own or something that God is going to change in your life. So just open your mind to whatever can happen in those situations. But there is so much success and so much opportunity on the other side of discomfort. So don't view that, that discomfort as a wall or something that you have to just stop at, right? Just view it as a time where things get hard or things get uncomfortable. Right before the good comes. Think about it like you have a big stone ball. This is what I always envision in my head when I'm going through things or I feel like I'm hitting the wall or I'm stuck. Think about when, like a picture of somebody rolling a big steel, I mean a big steel rolling a big boulder up a hill. You know, the last little bit, when you get all the way up the hill to the tip, the last little bit is the hardest to push it over. And then it's smooth sailing on the way down. That's what I. That's how I like to view my challenging times in life or the times where I'm feeling stuck and frustrated. I view it as the tip of that mountain. And then I have to overcome one last hurdle and then the goodness is going to overflow. So that's what I really wanted to say there too. I absolutely love that we have some Latinas listen to listening to the podcast. I'm so glad that you are here, baby girl. I'm so glad. And you Are you saying I'm a big person about representation. And I just want to be a good representation of a black Latina Puerto Rican woman. Baby, that statement alone makes me know that you are doing your due diligence. So kudos to you, Issa, and and thank you so much for listening to the podcast. So as you guys know, we always have a Challenge of the Week for our pep talks. And this week I really want you to celebrate your own growth by sharing one of your biggest wins or your takeaways from the podcast. It could be sending a podcast, sending, you know, one of my podcast episodes to a friend who needs some encouragement or journaling about a lesson that you've carried into your life. This week's challenge is all about paying it forward. So for some bonus points, don't just keep it to yourself. Post about your favorite episode. It could be from way back from 2021, 2022, 2023. Baby, it could be from any time. Post about your favorite episode and tag us at Affirmations for Black Girls. Or on Instagram, or on TikTok@AFBG underscore podcast. The point here for this Challenge of the Week isn't to just share, it's to recognize how far you've come and how to speak it out loud and encourage someone else to grow too. Maybe they can start their wellness journey or their wholeness journey just from seeing you post about it. The more we share our stories, the more this community grows. Oh y'. All. As we wrap up this different type of Pep Talk Wednesday episode, I just really want to say thank you. I will never stop saying this. This community is powerful because of each and every one of you listening. Every story, every comment, every DM reminds me that we are all in this together. We're all in this together. Every time I say something like that, I literally high school music pops into my head. But it's true. We are all in this together. And even though we have our own separate experiences, a lot of us are living in a lot of the same lived experiences. Our lives overlap in ways that we never knew that they could. We experience the the same things. We have a lot of the same thoughts. It may be in different seasons of life, but a lot. We go through the same seasons of life at different times times in our lives. So I want you guys to take some time to notice your progress and celebrate it as a form of self love and as something that you deserve. Because this podcast would not be what it is without y'.
All.
Without each and every one of y'. All. So I want to shout everyone out who tunes in, Especially our book club Warriors, y'. All. Y' all are thick over there. The book club, if you're not a part of the book club and you would like to be a part of it, is always linked down in the show notes of each episode. But the book club is thick. I also want to shout out the ones who engage on all of our socials and those who share these sweet words with us. I want to do more episodes like this just so we can see where we overlap in this life. My life looked so different compared to where and who I was when I started this podcast. And yalls growth inspires me just as much as I just. I hope this show inspires you. And I always want you guys to remember we're all learning, we're all stumbling, we're all taking on life together. We're all figuring it out and that's what makes this community so powerful. Keep leaning into your wins, no matter how small they are, and keep showing up for yourselves and each other. And with that being said, y', all, I want to thank you for listening to this week's pep talk. I really hope you got a little bit of something out of this or at least said, oh, wow, I was going through that too. Or, oh wow, I definitely want to go back and listen from the beginning or listen to the self assessment episode that was mentioned. I really hope you guys learned something. If you loved hearing from our community today, don't forget to share your own reflections with us. That can be in a DM on the Affirmations of Black Girls Instagram or Affirmations for black girls gmail.com and of course, make sure you are subscribed to the podcast on YouTube at Affirmations for Black Girls or following us on your favorite listening platform. I am just so excited. I'm elated, honestly, y'. All. I. I love each and every one of y' all and I'm just so glad that y' all show up week after week and listen to the words that be coming out of my mouth because I be feeling like I just be bumping my gums. But I really wanted to create a space where it feels like you're just talking to a friend and we're just getting through life together one step at a time. So thank you guys so much and make sure you are subscribed to the podcast so you never miss a midweek pep talk. Thank you guys so much for listening. This is Affirmations for Black Girls.
