This is Scott Becker with the Becker's Healthcare Podcast. This is going to be a very short podcast. We go through seven quick stories. First, another state has adopted the title Physician Associate for pas. And this is only noteworthy because the where we're going to is PAs and nurses are going to provide the vast majority of primary care within a few years, within at least five to 10 years, if not sooner. Second, we're producing six to seven times more nurses a year in our nation than doctors within 10 years. My guess is that 90% of primary care is going to be done by nurses. I wonder if at that point if all the remaining PCPs will be concierge or highly leveraged to oversee a new means of largely providing primary care. I just don't see any way around this. At the end of the day, we're producing 170,000 nurses a year. We're producing 25,000 doctors a year, but only about 5 to 8 or 10,000 of those are actually primary care physicians. So we're just, we're going to run out of primary care physicians compared to our population. Third, Baylor St. Luke's reports they formed the first fully robotic heart transplant, the first in the U.S. just fantastic. Fourth, U.S. vaccine programs critically weakened, say former ACIP members. I think they're probably right. Fifth, the new University of Miami Health System CEO doubles down on access and outcomes. Congratulations to Dr. Deepak Parak. Sixth, Purdue Pharma, which is a $7.5 billion settlement with the United States. That's an insane number, but well deserved. They should be paying more than that. Finally. Seventh, Ascension to acquire Amsearch. Am Search, of course, is the second largest ASC company in the country with 250 ASCs in 34 states. The largest is USPI tenant. Again, congratulations to Ascension who is really rebuilding themselves and rewarding themselves. Thank you so much for listening to this brief episode of the Beckers Healthcare podcast. Thank you.

Becker delves into the critical issue of workforce supply in primary care. He emphasizes the disproportionate growth in nursing graduates compared to doctors:
