This is Scott Becker with the Becker's Healthcare Podcast. We're going to quickly walk through about eight stories that we're currently following in healthcare that tell part of the story of where healthcare is at and also give some highlights on some news in the healthcare environment. First, Tennessee approves a $900 million hospital for Regional One Health. So Regional One Health will be building a new hospital. And again, this is again the story of healthcare in America. Right now, 60% of health systems have some margin. 40% do not. It is that 60% that's able to build and do some of the things that are needed to be done like this. So congratulations to Regional One Health. But it also tells a deeper story of haves and have nots in health care. Second, Kelly Gooch reports on the increasing complexity of the role of the chief operating officer. Many of us view the chief operating officer role as very, very important. Some places have tried to lean that out. We think that's largely a mistake. Third, there's news of a deal Lumina Healthcare Joins ECG Management Consultants ECG Management Consultants is really a phenomenal leading consulting firm, often working with academic medical centers and a lot of other types of health systems and hospitals and providers. Magnificent firm Lumina Healthcare Joins ECG Management Consultants Fourth, Jeffrey Flax, the great CEO at Hartford Healthcare, says that it's really the best time to be in health care with all the challenges, all the things that are going on. Jeff happens to be a remarkable leader. A great article where he talks about being the best time to be in healthcare even though there are so many challenges in healthcare. He and his predecessor and whole entire Hartford Healthcare team have built a tremendous system at Hartford Healthcare. Fifth, Fitch upgrades University of Colorado Health's rating to aa. That's University of Colorado Health. That's a terrific upgrade. Very positive news. 6th saw today the announcement that Mark Clement, the brilliant leader at Tri Health, will retire at the end of this fiscal year. Again, Tri Health, a great system. Mark Clement's been there for 11 years, has just done a fantastic job. Another leader from the systems taking over that role. Also a fantastic leader. So that's sixth with with the Tri Health system. Seventh a judge orders the Leapfrog group to remove grades from several hospitals, saying that the methodology they used wasn't fair to hospitals. In fact, what they did in some places was if hospital didn't respond, they got negative ratings, which isn't really fair because you don't really know how that hospital would have done on those different stats and so forth. Finally, ace, one of the highlights of my week was having a chance to hear an interview by Micheline Davis of National medical fellowships of Dr. Kelvin Wheeler. Dr. Kelvin Wheeler is about an 80 year old pediatric physician at Kaiser Permanente. The interview that I had the chance to be at in person for National Medical Fellowships where I serve on the board discussed Dr. Wheeler's history in growing up in a segregated world and becoming a doctor. It was a tremendously inspiring and awesome discussion with Dr. Wheeler, who's this just remarkable physician leader, about his history of growing up and becoming a leading physician in the country. Just a remarkable story of living through segregation in the 50s and 60s. And still with us now to so brilliantly and eloquently tell the story of his career and his profession. So that was that was the highlight of my week. In any event, these are eight of the stories that we're following today at Beckers Healthcare. Thank you so much for listening to the Beckers Healthcare podcast.
