Dr. Becky Tirabassi

Doctor Becky is convinced that the practice of prayer in a believer's life is an incredible, virtually untapped power source. Not only is she convinced because of her personal experience, but because the lives of many who have been committed to the discipline of daily prayer during and before our present day validate that she am not alone in her discovery. In the following pages of her book, Let Prayer Change Your Life, she prays they will serve as an inspiration and motivation to each of you to consider the power of prayer through a daily appointment with God as an essential and integral part of every day. Stories, sermon excerpts, prayers and quotes from powerhouses such as Peter Marshall, George Mueller, Andrew Murray, and many others will be a constant source of encouragement and exhortation for you to hold on to when your resistance gets low and your endurance in prayer wavers. Prayer... is for anyone who wants to know God better. Prayer... is personal and relational, rather than mystical or unintelligible. Prayer... is where your purpose unfolds and answers are received. Prayer... is where your fears are diminished and your soul is comforted. Prayer... is the place where the human and divine connect. In Dr. Tirabassi’s final chapter of her dissertation, A Call To Burdened Leaders to Pray Alone, Alongside…Until, Becky suggests that it is critical, at those junctures when the answer to your intercessory prayer has still not come, to review the lives of historical or biblical leaders burdened with similar challenges. Through them, you will see how they displayed perseverance and courage in the face of their adversaries to sustain their God-given assignment alongside other like-minded believers. And finally, to remember, there is no special secret to perseverance in prayer other than to keep praying, stay the course, and stand firm until God answers. And above all, be the persevering prayer leader in your sphere of influence. Join Dr. Becky as she continues in her dissertation with Chapter 6: A Scriptural View of a Burdened Leader's Life of Prayer. Scripture provides numerous examples of burden leaders who engage in and rely on the same three traits as prescribed in this dissertation- personal, intercessory, and persevering prayer- to overcome outsmart and outlast their opposition. Importantly, their lives demonstrate to today's leaders that when burden leaders pray, it is not simply theoretical. Prayer releases a divinely imbued agent of change that, over time- and sometimes, even immediately- effectively transforms a situation, person, culture, community or country, thus, pointing to God is the reason for success against their relentless and fierce enemies. In Part 2 of Chapter 4, The Purpose of Intercessory Prayer, Dr. Becky Tirabassi reminds today's burdened leaders that those who lead—parents, pastors, professors—must also cultivate and model a life devoted to God in prayer. Not just any prayer, but the kind of prayer that has the divine power and strength to intercede for others and is capable of overcoming evil. In Chapter 4, The Purpose of Intercessory Prayer Part 1, Dr. Becky Tirabassi describes the practice of intercessory prayer in the lives of the burdened leaders, illuminating the singular similarity between these exceptional men and women. It was not necessarily a shared theological background or political persuasion that compelled them to pray together. They united in intercessory prayer, as the following pages will reveal, because they shared a common belief in the power of united prayer. In Dr. Tirabassi’s dissertation, A Call to Burdened Leaders to Pray, Chapter 3, Part 2, reveals how historical leaders, burdened by their cause, were compelled and convicted to pray privately, diligently, and even desperately, asking for God’s help. Their published diaries, written prayers, and eyewitness testimonies of those who witnessed their tenacity and dependence on prayer confirm that they made a notable difference, not only in their generation but also beyond their lifespans and expectations. Yet, in almost every case, the call of God came at a personal cost. Therefore, I’m convinced that it is through dedicated hours alone with God in prayer that burdened leaders not only receive God’s call upon their lives but also the courage to fulfill it.
