Foreign this podcast is all about helping you book more clients. That's why it is called that in the title. And so one of the biggest things I love to talk about are things that you may be overlooking or mistakes that you might be making so that you can recognize those and then change your course of action. Fix these things and then that way you can get more inquiries and more bookings. And so today's episode episode is a fun one. I am going to talk about five tweaks that you can make to your social media accounts to convert more clients. But here's where all this came from. I recently did a ton of Instagram audits so inside of my fully booked method program that is like my A to Z strategy on how to become the go to photographer in your area and double your bookings. So we talk about everything in that program including pricing and marketing and understanding who your idle client is. But once they get to that marketing section they're having everything personally reviewed by me so they're getting personalized coaching. And I always do Instagram and Facebook audits for each photographer that goes through the program. And so I have compiled the like common five most common things that I'm seeing and that I'm repeating over and over and over again as I'm auditing people's bios and accounts. And so I thought it would be helpful and for you to be able to hear those things so that you can go look and see which ones you might be making and where you need to make some changes. So I'm sharing five simple tweaks that you can make to your social media right now that will help you convert the people who are already finding you. They just need to be convinced right to work with you so it doesn't have to be complicated and you don't need a new strategy. You don't even need like a brand new profile out. These are simple tweaks that you can make and it will make a significant difference for you. So let's dive into those five tweaks. Tweak number one is to use a username that is easy to remember and easy to type. This one sounds so small, but I promise you, it matters more than you think. If your username has a bunch of underscores, dots, random numbers, or a combination of all three, it's making it really hard for people to find you, tag you and refer you. So if possible, I want you to think about your username. If it looks complicated or it doesn't make sense, or it doesn't even have the word photo or photography in it, I want you to consider changing this. So I want you to think about it, right? If someone wants to post the beautiful photos that you did and they want to tag you, but they're getting caught up because they can't remember that there's underscores and there's like stars or there's periods or whatever it is in your username, they're just going to say, you know what, just forget it. I'm not even going to tag them. And they're going to move on. And that's hurting you because you want to, you want people to tag you and you want people to, you know, remember your username. That way they can get in contact with you, they can tag you, they can do all the things. So again, this one seems so minor, but I'm telling you, it definitely holds more weight than you think. Tweak number two. This one's all about your profile photo. Please stop using your logo and your client photos as your profile photo. That dates you back to 2017 and those days have passed. Okay, we need a photo that looks professional, that helps attract people to you. One where you are preferably smiling and holding your camera or something. Okay, it's okay to have like a, a different expression or a different pose, but it needs to be obvious that you are the photographer. Because people are booking you. They're not booking your logo, they're not booking your editing style. They are truly, truly booking you. So when someone lands on your account for the first time, see, seeing a real face helps build instant trust. It makes you feel welcome, it makes you feel approachable instead of corporate or cold. So use a clear, friendly photo of yourself, something that actually looks like you, not AI. Please stop using AI for your profile photos. I just think that is like the most insane thing to say to the photography industry. I totally understand, like having some fun with it, but please don't try to use it as your professional profile photo. Get a picture that looks like you, that is you, okay? That looks professional, that looks friendly and approachable and represents your brand.

The most simplest swap you could make that holds such a big difference. Tweak number three. I want you to include SEO keywords in your name and your bio. This one is a game changer and so many of you are missing out on it. Did you know that Instagram and Facebook actually have a search function and it pulls from your name field and your bio. So the words that you're putting there when people are searching for, for example, Dallas Newborn Photographer, if you have those words in your name and or your bio, then Instagram is going to pull that and so is Facebook when people are trying to search for a photographer and it's going to pull that same thing for Google. Google is using those words and it could pop up in page one or two of Google, which is huge for you. So if your name field just has your name or just your photography name and no one knows who you are, and the best example of this is if you have a photography business that is not your name. So mine is Brooke Janae Photography. That's my first and middle name and people know that's very recognizable. But if my photography name was natural light photography, nobody knows who that is, right? They're not out there searching for natural light photography. They might be out there searching for my name because maybe they've heard someone say my name and so it's going to pop up easier, but they have no idea what natural light photography is. So this is really, really important for those of you that have names or have photography business names that don't have your name is to make sure that you are using SEO keywords to your full advantage. You want to be discoverable. So here's what I want you to do. Go into your profile and add keywords to your name field. So I'm just going to give a random example here. Something like Sarah and then the divider line, Oklahoma wedding photographer, or maybe it's Sarah Divider line, Dallas Senior and family photos, something like that, where you're getting some of those keywords. And then in your bio, I want you to get specific to tell us who you serve, where you're located, maybe some credibility about you, how many years you've been in business, how many happy clients you have, etc. Etc. That way, when someone searches for a specific photographer in your city, you have a better chance at now popping up. So go add those SEO keywords to your social media accounts. Tweak number four. And this one is a really big one. This one is when I actually feel bad sometimes giving this feedback. But here's the deal. And I always, always say this to people who hire me, especially those of my students who want my honest feedback. You didn't invest in me to pump you up and, like, not hurt your feelings. Right? It's not intentional. And you hired me or invested in me because you want the real honest feedback. You want to know why people are not booking you. And so here's one. All right. And it does have to go back to your editing style. Every now and again, I come across a profile and I look at their feed and I look at all their photos, and it just looks amateur. Okay? Your feed on both your Facebook and your Instagram is like your portfolio. It's the first thing that people see when someone lands on your page. They're scrolling for a couple seconds and they're making that decision whether to stay or leave your page literally in, like, micro seconds. And so if it's scattered, if it's inconsistent, if it's a feed that just looks junked up with, like, a mixture of graphics, or maybe just they have no idea what your editing style is because nothing looks cohesive, then they're going to go the other way. They're not going to want to book you. This doesn't mean that every single session needs to look the exact same, but there should be a sense of cohesiveness, right?

I should be able to look at your photos, even just looking at the last nine photos you've posted. And I should be able to describe your editing style in three words. And if I can't do that, then you've got to go back to your editing and work on that first. You have to, because people are not going to invest in someone that they're just unsure of what they're going to get. It doesn't mean you're a bad photographer. It just means that people are looking for someone that has similar tones, similar vibes, and a consistent look that they can actually name and describe. Right? And so make sure that you feel very confident in. In your style. So if you're posting bright, airy images one week and then dark and moody edits the next week, that causes confusion. Pick a style that you love and that you can stick to and then carry that out and make it look consistent. When your feed looks like A real portfolio, then people can envision themselves in your work and that's when they're going to DM you or click your booking link or whatever the case may be. So I want you to do a little audit on your feed and see if you would describe yourself as consistent and cohesive. And last but not least, tweak number five is to show up in your stories at least four times a week. This is the one that I really want you to hear. Your stories are acting as your I'm open sign, right? Like hey, I'm in business. Hey I am here. Like I am active, I am open. So I want you to think about it as if you had a storefront in your town. If you walk by and the lights are off and you don't see the open sign, you just assume they're closed. You don't try the door, you just kind of walk off and you're on to the next. And your Instagram stories work the same way when I go audit photographers bios and even when I'll give you a non photographer example, even when I'm looking to hire someone in my business for something, whether it's a website designer or maybe it's a va, it could be a plethora of things. I'm going to tell you that the people that are active in their stories where I can get a better sense of who they are and what their day to day looks like, I'm more likely to then reach out and inquire with them about their services. And I know that sounds silly. It doesn't mean they can't take a day off. It doesn't mean that just because it's not active in that 24 hour period of time that I won't reach out to them. But I'm telling you I'm looking for the people that have active stories that are actively open. So I want you to think about that in your own social media. And I am preaching to the choir. This is the busiest I've ever been since July 1st of last year because I went back to a full time job on top of running this, the podcast, my own business, all the things, right? And so I'm doing marketing all the time. It's just sometimes my marketing falls through the cracks because my full time job is being a marketing director. And so I've got clients and 200 and something businesses that I'm helping market for and it's a lot. And so all of that being said, there's grace for you. If you're just in a season where you're like, oh, I just don't know if I can do that. But I really want to encourage you to try. Really want to do that. So just think about showing up a little more in your stories. It could be a behind the scenes clip. It could just be a simple picture of your morning coffee and you saying happy Monday. It could be a poll. It could be whatever you want it to be. If you want to get on camera and talk to camera, it's something that I would love for you to build up to. But I realize that not everybody's going to do that from the get go. So here are the five tweaks one more time. Tweak number one is to have a username that is easy to remember. Tweak number two is to have a profile photo that looks like you, that is you, that is friendly and approachable. Tweak number three is to make sure you're using SEO keywords in your social media names and your bio. Tweak number four is a consistent feed and a cohesive editing style. And tweak number five is to show up in your stories and have that active colored ring around your profile photo that says I'm open. So there you have it. Five tweaks and none of them are super complicated. All of them are worth doing this week. You can do every single one of these. And again, these are all things that I have seen in real time.
