You need to do that for yourself. If there are things that you're saying, man, I wish I had time for that. We'll go make time for that. You might have to sacrifice Something like that is the hard truth welcome to the God in Growth Show. I'm your host, Brooke Jefferson. I'm a wife, mom to two, photographer and business coach. If you love Jesus and know you are called to build a profitable and impactful business, you're in the right place. There is no perfection here, just real and raw conversations about navigating life and growing your business by Putting God first. I've been in the business world for over a decade and I've learned that true success comes from putting God at the center of it all. The verse I live by is Matthew 6:33 but seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. If you're ready for your next level, pull up a seat and dive in. If you feel like you are being pulled in a million directions and time is not on your side, you don't want to skip today's episode. Every day probably feels like a constant battle between being present for your family, growing your business, and spending time doing things you enjoy, like drinking a hot cup of coffee or making it to the gym or or taking that nap you crave so badly. Time seems to be the top excuse to why you just can't reach your goals and enjoy more of your life. I want to give you three strategies that will help you rein your focus in so you feel proud of yourself at the end of the day. Here we go. I want you to know that I haven't always been as organized and on top of my time as I am now, but I have always had a Type A personality. I love to organize. I love to plan my days, my weeks, my months, and before the pandemic even, I love to plan like five years out. But I have not always managed my priorities or myself well. So yes, I've always been Type A. I've always loved to organize things and I've. I've loved to be a planner. Like I am just a planner, naturally. However, I never planned the correct things all of the time. It's something that has taken me a while, so it has taken me some time and some outside help, but I feel like I'm finally in a place where I truly control my day and not the other way around. Before I give you my top three tips to help you take control of your time, I want to give a shout out to some incredible women who have each had their fair share of influence on me and the time management and routine space. So the first person that I want to shout out is Chelsea Jo Moore with Systemize youe Life. The number one skill that she has taught me is to use time blocking to look at everything that I have going on in my day and group all the tasks that go together. So that way, I am truly moving more smoothly throughout my day. So if you've never heard of time blocking or you want to learn more, go listen to the Systemize your Life podcast with Chelsea Jo Moore. The second person that has really just inspired me. These. These next two people I just stumbled upon this year, and I'm obsessed, like, borderline stalkerish. Kelly Lierden with Walk Like Warriors. Oh, my goodness. Can we just give Kelly a shout out? Not only does she keep it extremely real over on Instagram, but she has just really challenged me to. To look at categorizing the things that I do in my business and really assign them a day. So, for example, she teaches that every day could be a theme in your business. And that way, you know, like, every Monday you're doing this, every Tuesday you're doing this, et cetera, et cetera. So if you want to learn more about that, definitely go check her out. She will teach you how to batch things in your business. She will teach you how to really figure out. Okay, wait a second. How can I actually feel like a CEO and not like somebody who is just scrambling around trying to figure it all out? So I absolutely love Kelly. You can find her on Instagram at Walk Like Warriors. The third and final person that I just want to give a shout out to again, that has really just encouraged me and inspired me so much, and she probably has no idea who I am, and that is totally fine, is Jess Massey with Hustle Sanely. She owns a planner company, and she creates these amazing planners in these journals. And there's just something about watching her walk you through her day, every single day on Instagram that just really inspires me to have no more excuses. There's no reason that you can't do life, business, and things that you actually enjoy. And so all three of these women have definitely helped me in some way. Now, obviously, organization, time management, all, you know, that category in general, it's not a new concept. It's not like these three people just were born and they taught us something extremely brand new. But what I love, and this is kind of a side tangent here, but I really want you to hear me is that while all three of these people and all three of these women, they play a role in a very similar niche because they're all speaking to women, all three of these are Christians, and all three of these women have something to do with the time management and planning space. But what I love is that they all have their unique spin to time management, and that is truly what has attracted me to each and every one of them. They all three have taught me something so unique. And so I want you to remember that in your own business, I don't care if there is a hundred thousand other women doing exactly what you're doing, you are never the same. There's no way you guys have the exact same way of teaching and the exact same products, offers, et cetera, because you are unique and we are all called to our nation, to our businesses for a purpose. And so I know that was a side tangent, but again, these three women, I'm just so thankful that they literally quiet the noise and they stay in their lane and they change women's lives every single day. So if you're not following these people, go find them, go follow them, go stalk them and see how they can impact your life. Okay? So while these three women are so inspiring and I can thank them all day and I could do a whole podcast episode on each person, maybe one day we can have all three on the God and Growth show. So I will go put that on my vision board. But I hope to also be a sense of inspiration for you, truly. I don't want my content to ever just be fluff. I want you to find value in every single thing that I put out into this world. Because that's why I do it. That's why I do it. Okay, so here are my top three tips or strategies, whatever you want to call them, for managing your time. Number one is I want you to plan your week out on a calendar. Whether it is a digital Google calendar or it is a paper planner, that part doesn't matter. But planning everything out where you can see it and where you can see where there is space to fill in things that you need to get done, that is key. If you don't plan for something, it's not going to happen. Ask me how I know. If you don't plan in that time for you to go to the gym, you're not going to do it. If you don't plan for that slow morning for you to get up an hour before everybody else does so you can truly have your quiet time, drink your hot coffee, uninterrupted it's not going to happen. Now, while your calendar should give you basically a foundation for your week so that you know where to show up, how to show up, and when to show up so that you can truly crush your goals in all areas of your life. That's why we plan everything out. But you also have the ability to be flexible. So if something needs to change, you can look ahead and you can say, what can I swap out? What can I throw to next week? What can I take out of my calendar to create space for this? So number one is to plan your week out. Now, I choose on Sundays to sit down and I'm actually recording this on a Sunday. So I take time on Sunday to really plan out my week ahead because I want to see it, because it calms any anxiety or fear that I have coming up for the week. It helps me to see, okay, I have given myself the opportunity to be successful and hit goals in every single area. So that is, number one is you've got to have this weekly sit down to plan your week out. Number two, figure out a schedule that works best for you. A daily and a weekly schedule. No one else's schedule is going to be the same as yours. There's just no way. We all have different things going on. You might homeschool, you might have school drop off and pick up at public school. You might work a full time job. You might work from home. Your husband might have an on call schedule like mine does. Your husband might just work a 9 to 5 and everything is routine. Your children might be in other activities. You might be involved in other things outside of the home. So as you can see, it's never going to be the same. So what you need to do is you need to figure out at the end of your day what activities, tasks, routines, et cetera are going to make you feel at peace and make you feel like you truly had a productive and joyful day. So this is where you need to kind of step back and you need to figure out what has to get done in my business, what has to get done in my life, what habits and routines do I want to throw in my schedule for myself? You literally have to build your day for you or your day will run. You remember at the, you know, a few minutes ago when I started the podcast, I told you that I feel like I'm in a place now where I'm in control of my day. My day doesn't control me, I control it. I already know what's coming. I already Know that I have 24 hours a day. What am I doing, when am I sleeping, when am I eating, when am I exercising, when am I working on my business, when am I spending time with the Lord, when am I spending time with my family, when am I relaxing, et cetera, et cetera. And so you need to do that for yourself. If there are things that you are saying, man, I wish I had time for that. We will go make time for that. You might have to sacrifice something. That is the hard truth. And sometimes you might want to do something and this is just not the season or the year for it. And so you might have to really put that on a vision board and say, man, I can't wait until that becomes my reality. But part of making your I wish statements and making part of your dreams a reality is literally doing something tangible in the reality that you live in. And that's where calendar planning really comes into place. So figure out a schedule. Figure out what needs to happen day in and day out. What are your daily routines? What are your weekly routines? What are your monthly routines? So that way you are in control of your time. Okay, so the third and the final one is to focus on your top three work tasks each day and do them. One of the things I truly hear from you all the time is I just don't know when to work on my business or man, I am just so busy that I just, I keep skipping it or I'm not actually doing things that move the needle. And so here's what I want you to do. How you figure out your top three is by setting goals. And we will have other podcast episodes about this. But when you set goals and then you work them backwards, you're able to see exactly what you need to work on and when. So let's just say that you have a goal of making $5,000 in the month of November. Amazing. Okay, so that's the goal. Let's work backwards. First of all, you need to know what you're selling. Then you need to know how you're selling it. Then you need to make sure you have back end systems set up so that when you do sell it, everything runs smoothly. It's that client experience and you just keep working it backwards. What is your marketing plan? How are you talking to people? How many people a day do you need to do? You need to pitch your offer to. And I don't say any of that in a, in a negative way or like, oh, I'm just gonna cold DM everybody. That's not what we're talking about here. I'm just using sales terms because that's what it is. How many people need to see your offer per day and what can you do to make that happen? So you're working it backwards. So you need to figure out what are those top three work tasks I need to do every single day. And those are the only three things you're focused on. It's not scrolling Instagram, it's not updating your website, it's not going to a branding shoot unless that really is your top task of the workday. Your business will always have a running to do list. It literally will never stop having something for you to do, something for you to try, a project that you need to work on. It's always going to continue to add to do's to your list. But your focus needs to be on the most important three tasks in order to move the needle forward. So if you have two hours to work every day that you choose to work, what are those top three things each day that you are going to actually fill your time with that will result in leads, sales and happy clients? That's it. If you're working on stuff that is not resulting in leads, sales and happy clients, you probably don't need to be doing it now. Obviously you do need to set aside time to do like back end things. Like you're gonna have to build a system, but the system results in happy clients. You also need to track your finances, which is also directly related to to sales. You need to be working on marketing because that's how you get leads. So hopefully you can see the gist of everything. Okay, let me recap my top three tips for managing your time and then what I want you to do while you need to do all three of these, and I really did tell you all three of these in the order that they need to be done. Focus on number one. That is your only homework. Go have a sit down. I don't care if you're listening to this on a Thursday, a Friday, a Saturday, whatever day, it doesn't matter, have your sit down right now and start looking ahead to plan the next week. Number one, plan your week out in your calendar. Number two, figure out a daily and weekly schedule that works for you. What are those things that you need to make time for every single day and every single week in order to literally fill your cup. And number three, focus on your top three work tasks each day. That's it. That's it. Those are. These three are game changers. This will literally change the course of your business, it will change the course of your life. And you are no longer going to tell me, oh my goodness, I don't have time for this. I don't know what I'm doing. I feel unproductive. At the end of the day, this is your solution right here. Podcast Summary: "Don't Have Enough Time? 3 Life-Changing Time Management Tips For You"
In the latest episode of the Book More Photography Clients Podcast, hosted by Brooke Jefferson—a seasoned Oklahoma family photographer and business coach—listeners are equipped with transformative time management strategies tailored to help photographers and entrepreneurs streamline their workflows, enhance productivity, and achieve their business aspirations. Titled "Don't Have Enough Time? 3 Life-Changing Time Management Tips For You," this episode delves deep into practical methods to reclaim time and foster business growth.
Brooke opens the discussion by sharing her personal journey with time management. Despite having a natural inclination toward organization and planning, she admits, "I never planned the correct things all of the time" (02:15). Her candid acknowledgment highlights that even those who love planning can struggle without the right strategies in place.
To enhance her approach, Brooke credits three influential women in the time management and planning arena. Their unique methodologies have significantly shaped her strategies:
Chelsea Jo Moore – Systemize Your Life
Chelsea introduced Brooke to time blocking, a technique that involves grouping similar tasks together to create a smooth and efficient workflow. Brooke emphasizes, "Using time blocking helps me move more smoothly throughout my day" (05:40). This method minimizes downtime and maximizes productivity by ensuring that each segment of the day is purposefully allocated.
Kelly Lierden – Walk Like Warriors
Kelly's strategy revolves around categorizing daily business activities by assigning specific themes to each day. For instance, dedicating Mondays to marketing efforts and Tuesdays to client outreach ensures focused and organized operations. Brooke notes, "Every Monday you're doing this, every Tuesday you're doing this" (09:20). This thematic approach prevents task overlap and fosters a structured routine.
Jess Massey – Hustle Sanely
Jess champions the use of planners and journals to maintain a balanced and excuse-free life. Brooke shares, "There's no reason that you can't do life, business, and things that you actually enjoy" (12:10). Jess's emphasis on intentional planning inspires individuals to integrate personal well-being with professional responsibilities seamlessly.
Building upon these inspirations, Brooke delineates her three essential time management strategies designed to help listeners gain control over their schedules and achieve their goals:
Brooke underscores the importance of weekly planning, advocating for the use of either digital calendars like Google Calendar or traditional paper planners. She asserts, "If you don't plan for something, it's not going to happen" (15:05). By scheduling all tasks and activities in advance, individuals can visualize their week, allocate appropriate time slots, and ensure that critical tasks are prioritized. Brooke personally dedicates Sundays to map out her upcoming week, a practice that alleviates anxiety and sets a clear roadmap for success.
Recognizing that no two schedules are alike, Brooke advises listeners to create a customized schedule that aligns with their unique responsibilities and lifestyles. Whether juggling homeschooling, managing a full-time job, or coordinating with an on-call spouse, the key is to identify and incorporate essential activities that foster both productivity and personal fulfillment. She emphasizes, "You have to build your day for you or your day will run" (18:45). This personalized approach ensures that individuals remain in control of their time rather than being dictated by external demands.
To combat the overwhelming nature of endless to-do lists, Brooke introduces the concept of prioritizing the top three tasks that directly contribute to business growth. She recommends setting clear goals and working backward to identify the tasks that will achieve these objectives. "Focus on your top three work tasks each day" (22:30) becomes a mantra for listeners aiming to maximize their daily productivity. By concentrating on tasks that generate leads, sales, and client satisfaction, individuals can make significant strides without getting bogged down by less impactful activities.
Brooke encourages immediate action, urging listeners to begin planning their weeks without delay. She reiterates the transformative power of these strategies, stating, "These three are game changers. This will literally change the course of your business, it will change the course of your life" (25:00). By committing to weekly planning, personalized scheduling, and daily task prioritization, individuals can overcome common productivity pitfalls and achieve a balanced, fulfilling professional and personal life.
Brooke Jefferson's episode provides a comprehensive and actionable framework for effective time management, specifically tailored for photographers and entrepreneurs striving to optimize their workflows. By integrating weekly planning, personalized scheduling, and focused daily tasks, listeners are empowered to take control of their time, reduce stress, and propel their businesses toward sustained success.
