Welcome to the Book More Clients Photography Podcast. You can stop spending hours on Google and YouTube because you just found your number one resource for growing a profitable and sustainable photography business. Hi, I'm Brooke Jefferson. I'm a believer wife, mama to two and Oklahoma family photographer. I left the classroom in 2018 to pursue my photography career full time. Now I'm here to help you do the same. In this podcast we're covering the most asked about topics including pricing, marketing, client experience, and all things systems and workflows. You won't find any fluff or BS here. Just tried and true strategy. Are you ready? Grab your kids some snacks and charge those camera batteries. It's time to jump in. Foreign is going to be a little spicy, but of course always in a loving way. Because I want to talk about one simple marketing move that you are ignoring and it's costing you clients. It's not costing you likes or views or saves, but it is costing you actual paying clients. And the crazy part, it has nothing to do with algorithms or or hashtags or posting more. So if you're ready, let's dive in. Right now we are living in a world where content is being pumped out at lightning speed. And worse than that, it's being created by chat GPT and then copied by hundreds of people. Chat GPT captions, AI reels, canva templates, steal this hook, post and listen. I use some of these tools too. They're not bad. But here is the issue that I'm seeing across the board. This is the number one issue I saw when I was doing social media audits for all of the photographers that joined the market. Like a tog membership, that was the bonus that they got. And so I was combing through the social media of their choice and going through it. And the number one issue that I saw is that everyone's content is starting to sound the same. If you scroll your apps for 10 seconds, you'll start to see the same themes, the same trends, all with similar headlines and hooks, and it's all starting to blur together. There's nothing that is helping you stand out. So when your ideal client is scrolling, they're not thinking, oh my God, I need to book her. This is the photographer for me. They're skipping over your content, they're not stopping their scroll and they might even be thinking, haven't I seen this before? And that is the real problem, that is the root of the issue here. So let's talk about one simple move and here is what you are ignoring. Be a real human Be interactive and be seen. It simply goes back to, you need to show up as a human first and foremost in any type of marketing that you're doing. That's the secret sauce. It truly is that simple. You don't need to be perfect. You don't need to be polished. I just want you to show up and immerse yourself in your content. Because people, they don't connect to just captions alone. They connect to people. They don't connect to just pretty images. They connect to the stories behind, behind them. They want to know answers to questions like, who are you? What do you care about? What do you stand for? What does it feel like to work with you? And my favorite question, they are always asking, what's in it for me? And if all they ever see from you are these faceless graphics and nothing but your photography images, they don't feel anything. They start to become immune. I think about this when I think about if you start taking a certain supplement or you start taking, you know, a certain medication, your body eventually becomes immune to it if it is overused. And that is how people are starting to feel when they are approaching your social media and your websites. They're just, they're becoming immune. Like they've seen it a thousand times. There's nothing in it that makes them go, yeah, this is who I want to work with. So maybe you're guilty of doing some of these things. You post a reel with trending audio, but you never show your face. You write educational captions, but you never share your opinion. It might sound like what to wear to your session. You share tips, but you never share your story. You re share your post to your Instagram story. But again, you. You're never showing your face. So you are showing up online. You're being present, but you are not being relatable. And that is where you are missing. So many clients that would probably end up booking you if they could just connect to you. So why is this costing you clients? It's because when people don't feel connected to you or to a business or to a brand, they delay. They might see your content and think, I really do need to book a session, but they'll just tell themselves, I'll just reach out later. There's no urgency there. There's not enough FOMO there for them to think, okay, I need to book this right now. You might have a lead that comes across your Instagram profile and they scroll your feed to learn more about your business and look at more of your photography work. When they can't find anything personal or it doesn't look like you've been active in a really long time, they're probably going to exit out and go pick a different photographer. You might have someone that find your website from Google, but when they get on your website and they start scrolling and looking at what you have to offer, it looks like every other wedding photographer out there. So instead of you standing out and really drawing them in, you're blending in and getting glanced over or even forgotten. But when someone comes to your social media and your website and all your marketing avenues and they feel like they know you or they're able to hook on to a connection point, they're going to keep coming back to your account, interacting with your content, filling out your contact form, which is going to help them book faster, trust you easier, and then choose you over another photographer. That connection is what is helping them build confidence and trust in you as a business owner. It is going to help them start to feel confident in investing their money with you. And so that is why you have to be human. You have to show who you are. So let's talk about some practical examples of what this can look like. So instead of putting posting a mini session graphic that says spring minis now booking, try showing your face in a quick reel or a quick video on your stories where you're explaining, hey, I just opened up three spring mini session spots and I'm so excited about these because last year one of these moms were crying when she was scrolling her gallery. If you've been wanting updated family photos, this is for, for you. Do you see how like way more personable that is than just having a graphic that you think someone is going to latch on to and go, yeah, I need to do that. You want them to go, oh my goodness, yes. Like I need to have that reaction or seeing this, hearing this photographer's voice and watching them on their stories and feel more connected to this person and that is going to increase the chance of them booking with you. Another example, instead of just posting a carousel that says why you should book family photos this season, maybe you can share a behind the scenes clip from a session and then saying, you know, this is what your kids will remember. It's not about the outfits, it's not about the poses, it's about this moment right here. And then you could show a super sweet clip of one of your families or your clients interacting. That goes so much further. And the last example, instead of posting a perfectly curated grid photo with a generic caption like now booking 20, 26 seniors. You could try a selfie video talking about why you love senior sessions and the kind of experience you create and who they're perfect for. And I want to give you one more example to where you can, you know, take that up a notch. If you're a senior photographer and you have a senior rep team or you have a senior team of kind, what's going to go even further is doing a video where you are interviewing them, like just in a fun, casual way. And that way you're able to have them talk about your experience with you on camera and they're going to see that relationship that you formed with your senior. So that's going to take it even to the highest level of connection and trust building. When people can see you and they can hear you and they can connect to you, you're no longer just another face on the Internet. You become their photographer. And that's where the true magic sauce is. So I don't want you to rely on ChatGPT for every piece of your content because it is going to fail miserably. I can sniff that from a mile away. So can Everybody else. About two years ago, ChatGPT was, was newer on the scene and not everybody was using it. But today everybody is using it. Whether they use it for personal reasons or business reasons or marketing reasons, everybody is dabbling in Chat GPT. I even saw a reel last night when I was scrolling Instagram of this three year old telling his dad, I'm on Chat GPT. And he was like, what? And he said, yeah. And he was like typing in words. Obviously he couldn't like read or anything, but it was just crazy how that has become such a common tool. So while again, all these tools that I talked about in the very beginning, having Chat GPT help you using, you know, templated reels, using templates, all those things, all are good tools. But if you are not putting your flavor on it, it is going to fail miserably. So I want you to book more clients by showing your face, showing your personality, you know, immersing yourself into your content. And this is actually what I teach inside the market, like a tog membership. I know you've heard me talk about this all month long. That is what February is dedicated to because I launched this on February 1st and I'm so excited. These photographers are phenomenal. I think we have 17 or 18 photographers in this membership and it's been so fun getting to look at their content and answer their coaching questions and all the things so I know that you don't just need this motivation I'm giving you in this episode. You need structure, you need ideas, support, accountability. And that's exactly what you're going to get inside of this membership. So if you're in a place where you're like, yes, this is exactly what I need. You're going to get monthly content calendar with ideas. You're going to get real ideas with super scripts. You're going to get caption prompts that don't sound like AI. And I'm going to show you how to put your own flavor on it. That is probably the best part of this membership is that during that coaching call, I go through and I answer people's questions both live and pre submitted. And I'm showing them how, for their particular niche and business, how they can create the prompt and use it in their own business. You will also get some real time feedback so you are never guessing. And then there's a really cool bonus too. And you can check out all of this, you can find all of the details and come join us over@brookejefferson.com membership. So here is your biggest takeaway from today. What is costing you clients is the fact that you are not putting enough human interaction and you're not putting enough of your self into your content. Your edge is not your camera. Your edge is not your editing style. Your edge is simply you. And I know that is cheesy, it really, really is. But that is the difference. Just think about your favorite content creators on the Internet. You don't keep following them because you're not connected to them. You keep following them because you feel like you know them. You feel connected to them, whether they make you laugh, whether they entertain you, whether it's a really good place to go to get educated. So I want you to start showing up, showing your face, sharing your personality, saying what you actually think and believe in, all the things. And again, I'm not trying to get you to read between the lines. You can show up as a business personality and you can also bring in, you know, sprinkle in your, your personal personality. And what I mean is like some of you don't want to share a lot life and that's okay, you don't have to. But you do need to show up. We need to see some personality. That's the biggest thing that I can tell you. That's like my biggest tip for you in your marketing. If you truly want to see it start, you know, working, just look at your content. Does it sound bland? If it sounds bland, then you need every bit of what I'm talking about. But if you're getting on there and you're like, oh, no, like I hear my voice and this sounds like me and I, I am immersing myself in my content, then you're probably on the right track. So that is the simple move that you've been ignoring. And that is the secret to what is going to change everything for you. Increase your leads, increase your bookings. And again, it's just, it's going to help you do exactly what you have set out to do, which is have an insanely profitable and sustainable photography business. So I hope you found value in today's conversation. I hope it was just enough tough love to get you to realize where you could be stronger and how you can improve on your marketing. And I will see you on our next episode and we're going to continue this marketing theme all month long. All right, I will see you on the next one. Sam.
