Ed Hurlihy
Brings you the Adventures of the Falcon, starring Les Damon. Hello?
Jeff Rogers
Yes, this is the Falcon speaking. Oh, Lyla, I'm glad you called. You'll have to count me out tonight, angel. I have to see a client who's going to make my fortune. Mm. This boy's a big shot. And he's gonna show me how to make a killing.
Ed Hurlihy
This is Ed Hurlihy, friends, inviting you on behalf of the Kraft Foods company to listen to the Adventures of the Falcon. You met the Falcon first in his best selling novels. Then you saw him in his thrilling motion picture series. Now join him on the air when the Falcon sol the case of the Harried Husband.
Pat Davis
Miracle Whip has a flavor so pleasing.
Ed Hurlihy
Miracle Whip.
Rita
It tastes so lively, so teasing.
Pat Davis
Miracle Whip, only one of its kind. Miracle Whip, best salad dressing you'll find.
Ed Hurlihy
Miracle Whip is the only one of its kind because it's a different type of salad dressing. Made from a secret craft recipe. Miracle Whip combines the best qualities of old fashioned boiled dressing and fine mayonnaise. So it's truly distinctive and delicious with a flavor millions of folks call just exactly right. Try it, won't you? One taste will tell you why It's America's favorite salad dressing. The one and only Miracle Whip. And now, the case of the harried husband. It is early Sunday evening in New York and a handsome boy named Jeff Rogers nonchalantly walks down the fourth floor corridor of the Hotel Maynard. It's obvious from Mr. Rogers attitude he thinks he doesn't have a care in the world. But when he opens the door to his room, he learns differently.
Rita
Hello, Jeff.
Ed Hurlihy
What?
Rita
Don't be frightened, darling. It's only me.
Barney Davis
How did you get in here, Rita?
Rita
I gave the desk clerk one of my prettiest smiles and 10 bucks.
Barney Davis
Well, you had no business.
Rita
Of course not, Jeff, but you're a hard man to see these days.
Barney Davis
Well, as a matter of fact, you.
Rita
Were just about to call me. Word of honor don't lie, honey. You do it very badly.
Barney Davis
Oh, now look, Rita.
Rita
Oh, don't take on so, Jeff. On the other hand, there are things you do exceptionally well. Which reminds me, how's Mrs. Davis?
Barney Davis
You mean Pat Davis?
Rita
Who else would I mean?
Barney Davis
You know what that is?
Rita
I know what it better be.
Barney Davis
Now, Rita, there's no reason for you to act like this.
Rita
Oh, sure, but then there's no reason for me to be nuts about you either. You're not the brightest guy in the world. No, and when it comes to looks, I've known prettier boys too.
Barney Davis
Still, you're crazy about me.
Rita
Heaven help me. And heaven help you if you got any ideas about this Pat Davis.
Barney Davis
I tell you, sweetheart, it's strictly business.
Rita
When does it pay off?
Barney Davis
Well, you know how it is. These things take time.
Rita
That's what you told me last week.
Barney Davis
Well, you just be patient, baby.
Rita
When are you going to see her again?
Barney Davis
Tonight at nine.
Rita
Is this tonight?
Barney Davis
Could be. How do I look?
Rita
Come here, you dog. You know I'll cut your heart out if you ever get any other ideas about another woman.
Barney Davis
Hey, is that clock right?
Rita
You've still got time for one more. I get to work.
Ed Hurlihy
Oh, good evening, Mr. Rogers.
Barney Davis
Hello, Charles. Is there lady? Where is she?
Ed Hurlihy
Follow me, please.
Barney Davis
She been waiting long?
Ed Hurlihy
Oh, ever since. 8:30.
Barney Davis
It'll do her good, Jeff.
Pat Davis
Well, Pat, I couldn't imagine what happened.
Barney Davis
I'm sorry. Sorry, baby, I was detained.
Jeff Rogers
Voila.
Ed Hurlihy
Would you care to order now, Monsieur Rogers?
Barney Davis
What do you say, Pat?
Pat Davis
Well, I'm not hungry at the moment.
Barney Davis
Okay, Charles. We'll call you when we're ready. Certain?
Ed Hurlihy
Very good, monsieur.
Barney Davis
How have you been, honey?
Pat Davis
A lot you care. You haven't called me in a week.
Barney Davis
That's because I've been working on a big deal.
Pat Davis
A big deal?
Barney Davis
Listen, sweetheart, if this thing goes through, we can kiss this town goodbye. You mean that, Jeff, would I lie to you?
Pat Davis
Well, what is it?
Barney Davis
I just got word from the boys at Hollywood park that they're ready to roll.
Pat Davis
I don't understand.
Barney Davis
Well, a friend of mine has got a race fixed for Monday. This nag will pay 50 to 1.
Pat Davis
You sure? Jeff, you know, I tell you, it can't miss but when it comes to horses.
Barney Davis
You think I don't know what I'm talking about?
Pat Davis
Of course not, darling.
Barney Davis
Okay, then. How much money can you raise?
Jeff Rogers
Me?
Barney Davis
Yeah.
Pat Davis
Well, I could manage a thousand chicken feet. But Jeff, that's all I have in the bank.
Barney Davis
What about your husband?
Pat Davis
My husband?
Barney Davis
Yeah, in a racket like his. He must keep a lot of cash on hand.
Pat Davis
Well.
Barney Davis
Well, doesn't he?
Pat Davis
I suppose so.
Barney Davis
What do you mean, you suppose so? If someone plays a number that hits, Barney has to pay him off right away.
Pat Davis
Well, I don't know much about Barney's business.
Barney Davis
Well, take it from me, it's strictly cash and carry. And policy in this town is heavy cash.
Pat Davis
Well, what do you want me to do?
Barney Davis
Find out where Barney keeps it. But don't worry, we're not going to take it with us. As soon as our horse comes in, you'll put it back. Then it's you and me for foreign shores.
Pat Davis
But supposing.
Barney Davis
Come on, sweetheart, make up your mind. They're not going to hold the boat for us.
Pat Davis
All right, Jeff, you can make the reservations.
Barney Davis
Come.
Rita
Hello, Jeff.
Barney Davis
You back again, Rita?
Rita
Evidently. I was wondering how you made out with Pat Davis.
Barney Davis
Not so hot.
Rita
What happened?
Barney Davis
I guess it just wasn't my night.
Rita
I can't believe it.
Barney Davis
It does seem incredible, doesn't it?
Rita
It does to me, honey, because you know, I think you're irresistible.
Barney Davis
You want my autograph?
Rita
Well, if it's on a picture, it might help. It would be a wonderful way to remember you.
Barney Davis
Come again?
Rita
Well, obviously I'm not going to have much more.
Barney Davis
What are you raving about?
Rita
I picked up this envelope at the desk.
Sergeant Corp
Give me that.
Rita
I've already opened it. And can you imagine my surprise? I didn't know you were going to Canada.
Barney Davis
Who says I am?
Rita
Oh, did you buy the ticket for a friend?
Barney Davis
Oh, now, Rita, baby, you don't think I'd run out on you?
Rita
Well, it doesn't make any difference. You know how I feel about you, Jeff. I would never stand in your way. But I wonder how Mrs. Davis'll take it. And what about Barney Davis?
Barney Davis
What about Barney Davis?
Rita
I was just wondering if he'll be able to bear up under his loss. Have a nice ride, geoff. I've had mine.
Vincent Scolari
41 left, 28 right. 14 left, 37 right. What the devil?
Ed Hurlihy
Yeah, what is it, Barney?
Vincent Scolari
You busy, Doc?
Ed Hurlihy
Well, I was just gonna take my vitamins.
Vincent Scolari
Well, take a double dose later. Come in here. I want to show you something.
Ed Hurlihy
What's cooking, Barney?
Vincent Scolari
Me? Take a look in that safe.
Ed Hurlihy
Hey, someone's been in there.
Vincent Scolari
Yeah. Hey.
Ed Hurlihy
Well, don't look at me, Barney. I don't know nothing about it.
Vincent Scolari
Are you sure, Doc? I swear there was over 50 grand in that till.
Ed Hurlihy
I ain't the only one who's got the combination. What about Tony Farrow? He left the place after I did last night.
Vincent Scolari
Get him.
Ed Hurlihy
He ain't here. He phoned this morning, say he wasn't coming in. No, no, he said he ate some Chinese food or something yesterday. He didn't feel so hot. If I told him once, I told him a million times with his ulcers, he oughtn't to mess around with stuff like that.
Vincent Scolari
And what do you recommend? In my case, I'm suffering from a loss of 50 grand.
Ed Hurlihy
Oh, well, maybe we ought to go up and see Tony.
Vincent Scolari
Say no more, Doc. That's one prescription I'm going to follow.
Tony Farrow
I don't know if I understand you.
Vincent Scolari
What's the matter, Tony? I thought I was speaking English.
Tony Farrow
Yeah, but I can't believe it. Who could have walked off with that?
Vincent Scolari
Though oddly enough, that's just the question I was going to ask you.
Tony Farrow
Well, what about Daki?
Ed Hurlihy
I left the office before you did.
Vincent Scolari
Well, I guess you're elected, Tony.
Tony Farrow
Who am I?
Vincent Scolari
That's the way it looks to me.
Tony Farrow
What about your missus, Pat? She knows a combination.
Vincent Scolari
Are you insignia?
Pat Davis
Yeah.
Vincent Scolari
Yeah, you take that back.
Ed Hurlihy
Let me go.
Vincent Scolari
Are you gonna take that back?
Jeff Rogers

You think you're smart? Well, let me tell you something, Mr. Davis, you're a sucker. If I told you what I know about Pat.
Vincent Scolari
What do you know about Pat?
Tony Farrow
Never mind.
Vincent Scolari
But I do mind. And if you're trying to keep a secret from me, I know just the thing to bring it out in the open.
Pat Davis
Who's there?
Vincent Scolari
Oh, it's only me, Pat.
Pat Davis
What's the matter, Barney? You look upset.
Vincent Scolari
I just got some distressing news.
Pat Davis
You want a drink?
Vincent Scolari
That might help.
Pat Davis
What happened?
Vincent Scolari
You know I don't like to bother you with my problems.
Pat Davis
You always treat me as though I were a child.
Vincent Scolari
I didn't mean it that way, honey. Well, here's to us.
Pat Davis
No, I won't drink with you unless you tell me what happened.
Vincent Scolari
Well, you know Tony Farrow who works for me?
Pat Davis
The one who's always walking around with all those pills?
Vincent Scolari
No, no, that's Doc Julian. Tony's the tall, good looking one of Course, he isn't so handsome right now.
Pat Davis
What do you mean?
Vincent Scolari
He said a couple of things about you.
Ed Hurlihy
What?
Vincent Scolari
Oh, it doesn't matter.
Pat Davis
What did he say?
Ed Hurlihy
That.
Vincent Scolari
That you were carrying on behind my back.
Pat Davis
How can you have the nerve to say a thing like that?
Vincent Scolari
Well, you asked me.
Pat Davis
I cannot listen to that horrible man who stood there while he attacked my character.
Vincent Scolari
I didn't stand there.
Pat Davis
You took his against mine.
Vincent Scolari
Where are you going?
Pat Davis
What do you care? You don't love me.
Vincent Scolari
Pat.
Sergeant Corp
Come back.
Ed Hurlihy
Pat. Order, please.
Barney Davis
This is Mr. Rogers in 412.
Ed Hurlihy
Yes, sir.
Barney Davis
What do I have to do to get a little service around here? This is the fourth time I've called for a bellboy.
Ed Hurlihy
I'm sorry, sir. I'll check.
Barney Davis
Never mind. He's here now. Just a second. Take it easy, will you? You got your. Hey, what's it?
Ed Hurlihy
I did.
Rita
Yes.
Sergeant Corp
You read a Shaman?
Rita
That's right.
Sergeant Corp
I was wondering whether you'd like to go out with me.
Rita
What?
Sergeant Corp
Actually, I'm just trying to be polite. Because you don't have much choice in the matter.
Rita
What are you babbling about?
Sergeant Corp
My name is Sergeant Corp and I'm with the Homicide Division.
Rita
So?
Sergeant Corp
So a boyfriend of yours got himself knocked off last night.
Rita
A boyfriend of mine?
Sergeant Corp
Didn't you used to run around with Jeff Rogers?
Rita
You mean Jeff?
Sergeant Corp
Yeah.
Rita
I don't believe you.
Sergeant Corp
Why would I lie to a pretty girl like you? Better pack a bag, honey. I think you're gonna be away for a long, long time.
Jeff Rogers
Just a second. Yeah?
Tony Farrow
You Mike Wearing the Falcon?
Jeff Rogers
That's right.
Tony Farrow
I'd like to talk to you.
Jeff Rogers
You think you're in any condition? What happened to your face?
Tony Farrow
I had an accident.
Jeff Rogers
He must have been a big boy.
Tony Farrow
It was not kind.
Jeff Rogers
Anything you say.
Tony Farrow
You don't believe me?
Jeff Rogers
What difference does it make? It's your face and your story. Mr. Scolari.
Tony Farrow
Vincent Scolari.
Jeff Rogers
Sit down.
Tony Farrow
Thanks.
Jeff Rogers
What's on your mind?
Tony Farrow
You read about that killing last night?
Jeff Rogers
Which one? This is New York, you know.
Tony Farrow
I'm in at the Maynard Hotel. We got a fellow named Jeff Rogers. Well, they're holding my wife for the murder.
Jeff Rogers
Your wife?
Tony Farrow
Rita Scheiman.
Jeff Rogers
And your name is. Kolari. Well, that figures.
Tony Farrow
That's Rita's maiden name. We're separated.
Jeff Rogers
Was this Jeff Rogers that caused?
Tony Farrow
Ah, it was my fault. Rita picked up with Jeff after I start horsing around. But she never killed him.
Jeff Rogers
And who did?
Tony Farrow
That's what I'm paying you to find out.
Jeff Rogers
Did you say paying?
Tony Farrow
Well, 500 bucks hold you for A.
Jeff Rogers
Spell and a little while longer.
Tony Farrow
1, 2, 3, 4, 5.
Jeff Rogers
Thanks.
Tony Farrow
I don't want you to bother Rita with this anymore. You have to.
Jeff Rogers
Well, I'll need certain information.
Tony Farrow
I can fill you in.
Jeff Rogers
Okay. What kind of a boy was this Jeff Rogers?
Tony Farrow
Real Casanova type dame. Soul went nuts about him.
Jeff Rogers
Who was the last one?
Tony Farrow
Dame named Pat Davis.
Jeff Rogers
Now who's she?
Tony Farrow
I don't know. But for those 500 bucks, maybe you can find out. I'll be seeing you, Waring.
Ed Hurlihy
This is Ed Hurley. He again. Friends, I have a little suggestion for you ladies who wonder what you're going to do for some interesting menu ideas. My suggestion is this. Just get a two pound loaf of Kraft Smooth melting pasteurized processed cheese food. Velveeta. You can melt Velveeta for smooth delicious cheese sauce that'll add extra goodness to vegetables or seafood or rice or just plain toast for a fine main dish. And it's such an easy sauce to make. All you do is melt a half pound of Velveeta in the top of your double boiler. Notice how smooth it melts without any lumps at all. Then slowly stir in a quarter of a cup of milk. Season to your taste. And there you have it. A delicious cheese sauce with a wonderful rich yet mild cheddar cheese flavor. A flavor that everyone, the youngsters and grandma included, will enjoy often. And it's a wholesome dish because Velveeta is so rich in important food values from milk. So whether you melt Velveeta for a swell cheese sauce or slice it thick for hearty sandwiches, you'll find Velveeta is a mighty handy helper. Mother, get a two pound loaf tomorrow, won't you? It's America's favorite cheese food. The one and only Velveeta, made by craft. Now back to the adventures of the Falcon. An hour has passed since Mike was retained by a Mr. Vincent Scolari to solve the murder of Jeff Rogers. And now as we find Mike, he's about to earn his retainer.
Pat Davis
Who is it?
Jeff Rogers
Telegram for Mrs. Pat Davis.
Pat Davis
Oh, just a minute.
Jeff Rogers
Hello.
Pat Davis
Well, you're not with Western Union.
Jeff Rogers
Well, I tried to enlist, but they wouldn't have me.
Pat Davis
What do you want?
Jeff Rogers
Awfully drafty out here. Well, I can assure you, Mrs. Davis, I'm perfectly respectable. I'm a second class scout in troop 87.
Pat Davis
Come in.
Jeff Rogers
Thanks.
Pat Davis
You don't look like a Boy Scout to me.
Jeff Rogers
Well, I'm kind of tall for my age.
Pat Davis
What's your name, Mr.
Jeff Rogers
Wearing.
Pat Davis
Just wearing.
Jeff Rogers
Well, there's a Mic that goes in front of it, but no one seems. What's the matter Mrs. Davis? Something burning?
Pat Davis
Why?
Jeff Rogers
Well, the way you wrinkled your nose when I mentioned my name, I thought maybe you smelled something offensive.
Pat Davis
Maybe I did.
Jeff Rogers
Huh?
Pat Davis
Falcon. Oh, what do you want?
Jeff Rogers
Well as I started to explain, in order to be a first class scout I have to pass map making. And my assignment is to locate all the Pat Davis's in New York.
Pat Davis
How are you doing?
Jeff Rogers
Well, not bad. Would you mind telling me a little about yourself? What kind of men do you prefer?
Pat Davis
Those who know where they're not wanted.
Jeff Rogers
Oh, they're hard to find. Was Jeff Rogers like that?
Pat Davis
Who?
Jeff Rogers
Jeff Rogers, boy who was murdered last night.
Pat Davis
I never had the pleasure.
Jeff Rogers
You sure?
Pat Davis
If that's the only reason you came.
Jeff Rogers
Here, I know I can get.
Pat Davis
You've been reading my mind.
Jeff Rogers
Well, I've had enough practice. But I don't know what I'm going to tell my scoutmaster. He's going to be awfully disappointed.
Pat Davis
Who's there?
Vincent Scolari
Only me.
Jeff Rogers
Pat.
Pat Davis
You're home early.
Vincent Scolari
Yes, yes, I had a purpose. I wanted to apologize for last night. You stormed out of here before I had a chance to say I'm sorry.
Pat Davis
Well.
Vincent Scolari
Well now I'm no longer sorry.
Pat Davis
What?
Vincent Scolari
What was the Falcon doing here?
Pat Davis
Who?
Vincent Scolari
A private detective.
Pat Davis
There was no one here all afternoon.
Vincent Scolari
Don't lie to me, Pat. Dr. Julian saw him.
Pat Davis
Are you going to take his word?
Jeff Rogers
Yes.
Vincent Scolari
Did you wire Waring to get you evidence for a divorce?
Pat Davis
Did I? That's the funniest thing I've heard in years.
Vincent Scolari
I'm glad it tickled you. We'll see if Mr. Waring finds it so amusing.
Pat Davis
Bonnie, you're not going up to see him?
Vincent Scolari
You mind?
Pat Davis
Darling, you've got to believe me. There's absolutely nothing to it. Why would I want a divorce?
Vincent Scolari
That's what I intend to find out. And I don't think anyone can be as helpful in that as Mr. Waring.
Jeff Rogers
Come in.
Vincent Scolari
You must be Mike Waring.
Jeff Rogers
Must be. And you?
Vincent Scolari
My name is Barney Davis.
Jeff Rogers
What's on your mind, Davis?
Vincent Scolari
Oh, call me Barney. Everyone else does.
Jeff Rogers
Oh, I wouldn't presume.
Vincent Scolari
No, I want us to be real friendly. You were around to see my wife this afternoon.
Jeff Rogers
You asking or telling me?
Vincent Scolari
I'm telling you. How long have you known her?
Jeff Rogers
We just met this afternoon.
Vincent Scolari
You're lying.
Jeff Rogers
Okay, have it your way. We were childhood sweethearts.
Vincent Scolari
Who put her up to getting the divorce?
Jeff Rogers
Look Davis, you're out of your mind. I'm working for a girl named Rita Sherman.
Vincent Scolari
The woman they're holding for that Jeff what's his name's Murder?
Jeff Rogers
That's right.
Vincent Scolari
What does Pat have to do with her?
Jeff Rogers
Well, you're providing part of the answer right now.
Vincent Scolari
I don't get it.
Jeff Rogers
Your wife was running around with Jeff Rogers.
Vincent Scolari
You're a liar. She didn't even know the guy.
Jeff Rogers
No? Well, I'll bet she tried to stop you from coming up here and learning the truth.
Vincent Scolari
What?
Jeff Rogers
Am I right?
Vincent Scolari
Now listen to me, Waring. I love my wife.
Jeff Rogers
Well, bully for you.
Vincent Scolari
And if you think you're kidding me with this routine, you're not.
Ed Hurlihy
Doc, you want me?
Vincent Scolari
Yeah. Come in here for a second, will you?
Ed Hurlihy
Sure thing.
Vincent Scolari
This is Mr. Waring.
Ed Hurlihy
Hi.
Jeff Rogers
Hi.
Vincent Scolari
What do you think of the specimen?
Ed Hurlihy
You mean you want a diagnosis?
Vincent Scolari
No, I've diagnosed this trouble myself. What I want you to do is give him a treatment.
Jeff Rogers
Oh, sure. Now, look, little man, put away the lead pipe.
Ed Hurlihy
You got it wrong, Waring. It was a very delicate instrument. You heard of them taking a spinal.
Jeff Rogers
Tap, didn't you, huh?
Ed Hurlihy
Well, I worked the other end. I'm just gonna tap your skull.
Sergeant Corp
How do you feel, Mike, huh? I don't know why I should try to revive you. This is the first time I can remember you being quiet in months.
Jeff Rogers
When did you get here, Sergeant?
Sergeant Corp
The superintendent phoned me after the brawl was over. Now, what went on here?
Jeff Rogers
You know that Rita Sherman you're holding?
Sergeant Corp
The girl who murdered her boyfriend?
Jeff Rogers
She didn't.
Sergeant Corp
What makes you so sure?
Jeff Rogers
She's my client.
Sergeant Corp
Silly of me to even ask. It's funny. Rita didn't tell me about it.
Jeff Rogers
It was her husband who hired me.
Sergeant Corp
What's his name?
Jeff Rogers
Vincent Scolari. He told me it was his fault. He and Rita broke up. Rogers had nothing to do with it.
Sergeant Corp
But you know Rita didn't kill him.
Jeff Rogers
Yes, Corbett. This boy, Jeff was quite a man with the ladies.
Sergeant Corp
That I discovered for myself.
Jeff Rogers
Well, did you discover anything about a girl named Pat Davis?
Sergeant Corp
Pat Davis? No.
Jeff Rogers
Well, Jeff kissed her off.
Sergeant Corp
How do you know that?
Jeff Rogers
I'll leave it to Rita.
Sergeant Corp
You don't think I take her word for it?
Jeff Rogers
Well, she may know something.
Sergeant Corp
She might, but I doubt it. Otherwise, she certainly wouldn't have hired you. Well, let's find out. All right, lions, open them up.
Jeff Rogers
Hi, Al.
Ed Hurlihy
Hi, Emma. Hey, what happened to you?
Sergeant Corp
He got that for using his head, huh? Come on, open him up. Hello, Rita.
Rita
You're wasting your time, Sergeant. I am not answering any more questions.
Jeff Rogers
You'll have to, angel.
Rita
Who are you?
Jeff Rogers
Mike Waring.
Rita
Mike Waring.
Ed Hurlihy
Yes.
Jeff Rogers
Your husband hired me to act for you.
Rita
My husband?
Jeff Rogers
Vincent Scolaris.
Rita
All right, all right, I give up. What's the answer?
Jeff Rogers
Well, it's very simple, Rita.
Rita
I doubt it. I've done a lot of silly things in my life, but I never got married.
Jeff Rogers
What?
Rita
But you can stick around, Mr. Waring. Maybe we can do business.
Ed Hurlihy
Remember, tomorrow at your grocer's, you can get a wonderful new salad oil for your homemade salad dressings. Your cooking, your baking. It's craft salad oil. The first salad oil for home use ever offered by the makers of all those wonderful craft dressings. Craft salad oil is a lighter bodied oil, super fine to blend perfectly with other ingredients. Get a pint or quart bottle tomorrow at your groceries. Ask for Kraft salad oil. And now back to the Adventures of the Falcon. Just a few seconds have passed since Mike Waring learned that Rita Sherman was never a bride. From which our hero draws one conclusion. Obviously, if Rita was never married, her husband couldn't have hired Mike.
Jeff Rogers
I don't get it. I don't get it at all.
Rita
You boys aren't fooling me, so you might just as well run along.
Jeff Rogers
I tell you, this Scolari claimed he was your husband.
Rita
How could he have been?
Jeff Rogers
Well, he gave me $500 to represent you. Here, look.
Rita
So what does that prove?
Jeff Rogers
Well, what have I got to gain by a story like this?
Rita
I don't know. Maybe you're a cop.
Jeff Rogers
I'm a private detective.
Rita
Are you any good?
Sergeant Corp
A fucking good. Why? Sing Sing is loaded with people who'll be glad to vouch for him.
Jeff Rogers
All right, sergeant, knock off. Listen, Reader, you have no idea who this Killari is?
Rita
Well, what did he look like?
Jeff Rogers
Good looking boy. At least he was before someone played potsy on his face. About five'eleven dark hair?
Rita
Nope.
Jeff Rogers
Spoke with a very slight accent.
Rita
I can't place him, but he must.
Jeff Rogers
Be a friend of yours.
Rita
How do you figure that?
Jeff Rogers
Well, this was hardly the act of an enemy. Unless he was so confident I would foul this up and land you in the chair.
Sergeant Corp
You could do that too, you know. Listen, Mike, you sure you haven't imagined all this? How does Barney Davis fit into this?
Jeff Rogers
Remember that Pat Davis I told you about?
Sergeant Corp
Yeah.
Jeff Rogers
Well, that's his wife.
Sergeant Corp
Why didn't you say so before?
Jeff Rogers
You didn't give me a chance. You know anything about this Rita?
Rita
Well, only that Jeff used to see her occasionally.
Jeff Rogers
Was he in love with her?
Rita
I wouldn't think so. He only bought one ticket for Canada.
Sergeant Corp
Then you knew he was running out on you?
Rita
He was running out on Mrs. Davis. I was supposed to meet him there later.
Jeff Rogers
Why would he run out on her?
Rita
Well, I wouldn't know for sure, but I think she gave him some money to invest.
Sergeant Corp
Oh?
Jeff Rogers
How much money?
Rita
I have no idea.
Sergeant Corp
Well, I have an idea. I just got a hunch who this Vincent Scolari might be.
Jeff Rogers
Who?
Sergeant Corp
Fella named Tony Farrow. He works for Barney Davis.
Jeff Rogers
He does?
Sergeant Corp
He did, the last I heard.
Jeff Rogers
What are we waiting for, Sergeant? Let's see if he's still gainfully employed. Hello, Barney.
Vincent Scolari
Well, if it isn't my good friend, the Falcon.
Jeff Rogers
Yeah, though a little the worse for wear.
Vincent Scolari
Nah. How did that happen?
Jeff Rogers
You don't really care. You know Sergeant Corbett.
Vincent Scolari
Oh, sure. How are you, Sergeant? Fine.
Jeff Rogers
I brought him along to vouch for me. You wouldn't believe me when I told you I wasn't working for your wife.
Vincent Scolari
Well, I believe you now.
Jeff Rogers
That's very big of you. What convinced you?
Vincent Scolari
Pat told me the truth.
Barney Davis
Ah.
Jeff Rogers
Is your wife run?
Vincent Scolari
No.
Jeff Rogers
Where is she?
Vincent Scolari
Out.
Jeff Rogers
You mean you trust her alone?
Vincent Scolari
What kind of a crack is that?
Jeff Rogers
Oh, come on, Barney, wake up.
Vincent Scolari
You know the last guy who sounded off like that?
Jeff Rogers
That's Tony Ferro.
Vincent Scolari
How did you know about him?
Jeff Rogers
He was up to see me. You made a bad enemy there.
Vincent Scolari
I'm not worried.
Jeff Rogers
Well, you should be. You know what he went and did?
Vincent Scolari
No, but you're going to tell me anyway.
Jeff Rogers
He hired me to work for Rita Sherman. Well, but don't you see his motive? He hoped that I could turn the Jeff Rogers murder on you.
Vincent Scolari
Why me?
Jeff Rogers
Because he hated you and you were a hot suspect. Your wife was seeing Rogers.
Vincent Scolari
Listen, Waring, I told you before.
Jeff Rogers
Come on, you've got to face it, Barney. You've been a patsy.
Vincent Scolari
Take that back.
Sergeant Corp
Watch it, Davis.
Jeff Rogers
Believe me, that little girl never deserved anything you did for her. Including murder.
Vincent Scolari
What did you say?
Jeff Rogers
Oh, why pretend, Barney? You heard me the first time. All right, Sergeant, make like a policeman.
Rita
I know I shouldn't ask questions, Mike.
Jeff Rogers
No, don't be silly, Rita. I'd be disappointed if you didn't.
Rita
Well, all right then, what was this all about?
Jeff Rogers
Oh, it was the oldest story in the world, angel. Barney thought Jeff Rogers was going to steal his wife, so he took steps.
Rita
Said steps being to Jeff's room where he killed him, huh?
Jeff Rogers
Exactly.
Rita
Well, how did you know that Barney was the guilty critter?
Jeff Rogers
When I learned that Vincent Scolari was Tony Ferro.
Rita
Well, if your purpose was to confuse me, Mr. Waring, you succeeded.
Jeff Rogers
Well, you know why Tony was beaten up?
Rita
Yeah. Because he made a crack about Barney's wife.
Jeff Rogers
Which came out when Barney was questioning him about 50 grand that was missing from the safe.
Rita
So?
Jeff Rogers
So if Tony had swiped the dough, in addition to insulting Pat Davis, what do you think would have happened to him?
Rita
Barney would have killed him.
Jeff Rogers
And the mere fact that Tony was alive, therefore meant that Barney had checked up on his story and found it to be true. Once I realized that Barney knew about Rogers and his wife, I knew he killed him.
Rita
I get it.
Jeff Rogers
Good for you. Any further questions? Angel?
Pat Davis
Mm.
Jeff Rogers
Mm. Well, then it's my turn. Now, how is for you and me to.
Rita
Nope.
Jeff Rogers
Now, how can you tell what I was going to say?
Rita
When it comes to that department, every woman's a detective. Good night, Angel.

This episode delves into a complex web of deceit, betrayal, and murder, featuring the suave private detective, The Falcon, portrayed by Les Damon. Set against the bustling backdrop of New York City, listeners are taken on a suspense-filled journey as The Falcon unravels the mystery surrounding the murder of Jeff Rogers.
The story kicks off early Sunday evening in New York at the luxurious Hotel Maynard. Jeff Rogers, perceived as a carefree and affluent man, returns to his hotel room only to be confronted by Rita, a persistent and enigmatic woman. Their confrontation quickly reveals that Rita harbors feelings for Jeff, but their interaction is cut short, hinting at underlying tensions.
Shortly after, the narrative shifts focus to a broader mystery: the murder of Jeff Rogers. Mike Waring, known to listeners as The Falcon, is retained by Vincent Scolari to investigate the case. However, as The Falcon delves deeper, he uncovers a tangled relationship between Rita, Pat Davis, and Barney Davis, Pat's husband. Suspicion falls on Barney Davis, who is entangled in shady dealings and appears to have a motive rooted in jealousy and financial gain.
As The Falcon digs deeper, he encounters obstacles, including confrontations with Sergeant Corp from the Homicide Division, who is skeptical of The Falcon's involvement. The investigation leads to startling revelations about Vincent Scolari's true identity—Tony Farrow—who is working under Barney Davis's orders. The Falcon cleverly pieces together the puzzle, exposing the intricate plot Barney Davis orchestrated to frame him and cover up his own criminal activities.
