At times, certain passages may seem to support an idea when read alone, but a broader study often reveals a different conclusion. The Bible's teaching on slavery illustrates this principle. While some passages instruct slaves on how to live within their circumstances, other passages reveal God's condemnation of man stealing, His desire for freedom, and His view of believers as brothers and sisters in Christ.
