Although His brothers pressured Him to go publicly to Jerusalem and prove Himself, Jesus refused to be influenced by people who did not believe in His assignment, recognizing that His time had not yet fully come. He did not recklessly put Himself or His mission in danger just to prove a point. In the same way, just because God has placed something in your heart does not mean you should immediately pursue it publicly or at full force. Some assignments require you to remain in the background, move quietly, or pivot as the Holy Spirit leads until the right time comes. While God may initiate extraordinary forms of communication through audible voices, visions, dreams, angels, or other people, believers can consistently recognize His direction through their born-again spirit as their minds are renewed by His Word. Learning to hear God requires distinguishing His simple, God-honoring voice from our own complex, self-focused thoughts, trusting His provision rather than interpreting His direction through scarcity, and patiently allowing Him to confirm what He is saying. It also requires proper theology and a biblical worldview, because wrong beliefs and worldly thinking can cause us to misinterpret even what we have clearly heard.
