"I like your Christ," he confessed to the missionary. "But I do not like your Christians. They are so unlike your Christ." Who was that man? Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi - the East-Asian Indian counterpart to America's George Washington, who led his people to a new identity outside of British colonial rule. Ghandi had to endure a constant barrage of racism, classism, and inequities. But the worst of these indignities was done by so-called Christians who turned him away from worshipping "with their kind" and supported cultural imperialism. When the church forgets its mission, its not just a shame, it creates monstrous consequences. At the most basic level is the Christian church member who either takes personal responsibility, or doesn't. What does it mean to be a basic Church member? That's the discussion that Sean and Adam have in this week's Church for Normies! ▶️ Nate's Message on YouTube: https://tinyurl.com/ytp4e3df🍊 Spotify: https://tinyurl.com/4y3r8c9s🍎 Apple: https://tinyurl.com/m54hzd3r💚 Grace Community Church: https://www.roswellgrace.com/📰 Grace COMMUNITY Blog: https://tinyurl.com/mue5epjf📧 Send us questions or comments! apruitt@roswellgrace.com

Gal. 4:4-5 says "But when the time had fully come, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under law, to redeem those under law, that we might receive the full rights of sons." Our eye quickly (and with good reason!) is drawn to our redemption and adoption. However, God's Lamb, the subject of our atonment, his only begotten Son, had to be phyically birthed into this world - and it began with an appropriate colaboration: a woman who was a virgin, who would willingly be overshadowed by the Almighty. The demonstration of Mary's faith is an important lesson for us all to reflect on, emulate, and demonstrate. “What would you do if you knew you only had a few minutes left to live?” It's concievable that how you answer that question will not only sum up the practical philosophical/theological beliefs in your life, but also how committed you are to them in reality. In this third message in Nate's series of "The Easter Challenge", Nate challenges us to accept the reality, the responsibility, and make the appropriate response to what Easter means for our mission on earth. The historical event of the resurrection of Jesus is a curiosity to a secular or disdainfully naturalistic culture. Maybe they have a point? If he's alive - truly not dead - why isn't he walking around now? Why lead the world on like this? They demand irrefutable proof to tests they demand answers to. But as research author Craig Mertler said, "a valid test is always reliable, but a reliable test is not necessarily valid." They could be (and I submit they indeed *are*!) asking the wrong questions, therefore, contriving the wrong or invalid answer. What does it mean, then, if the Only Begotten Son of God rose from the dead, and ascended, promising to return? What does that mean that his mission is left to his disciples? What if those disciples - 2,000 later - are still faithfully executing that mission? What if every person born is meant to be a part of that mission? That's Easter and that's the discussion!▶️ Nate's Message on YouTube: https://tinyurl.com/ytp4e3df🍊 Spotify: https://tinyurl.com/4y3r8c9s🍎 Apple: https://tinyurl.com/m54hzd3r💚 Grace Community Church: https://www.roswellgrace.com/📰 Grace COMMUNITY Blog: https://tinyurl.com/mue5epjf📧 Send us questions or comments! apruitt@roswellgrace.com

What's the difference between satiety and contentment? (We know ... WHAT?!) "Satiety" is the physical and psychological feeling of fullness and satisfaction after eating, which eases the feelings of hunger and keeps you from continuously feeding. Imagine if you never felt full ... Since we live in a time of relative plenty, we actually have to work hard at disciplining not only WHEN we eat but WHAT we eat, and HOW MUCH! And it's more than just food ... it's "stuff" and "experiences" ... we can consume a LOT of different things, making contentment rather hard. But Paul, who lived in a very different time and very different circumstance, could still say "I have learned the secret of contentment", not just satiety. How do we get there? Nate discusses how it's one of the most important keys to discipleship. Also ... EASTER is upon us! Have you ever written or received a letter that warns you about certain people who may cause you harm? That's what Paul did in Philippians. But more than that, he used it as a springboard to launch into what is the essence of a maturing relationship with the Living God and to find out that this was his intention for humankind all along. Nate's on vacation this week, so Sean filled in! What happens when Adam and Sean are left to their own devices? The Gospel is disruptive. It always has been and always will be. In fact, in Thessalonica, it's introduction to the city caused a riot. It's detractors accused Christians of turning the world upside down (Acts 17:6), not understanding that the Gospel frees us to see clearly and live peacefully in accordance to God's original intent. Maybe it's not that the Gospel makes things upsidedown, but that it corrects and turns it right-side up? But if one lives their life in a gargage heap, you normalize the stench and putrid food, and can't imagine what it's like to live in the peaceful countryside. By what right do Christians have to say we're living according to God's intent? By what authority can we say that's true? And by what empowerment can disciples strive to live that way? That's the focus of our talk today on Church for Normies! ▶️ Nate's Message on YouTube: https://tinyurl.com/ytp4e3df🍊 Spotify: https://tinyurl.com/4y3r8c9s🍎 Apple: https://tinyurl.com/m54hzd3r💚 Grace Community Church: https://www.roswellgrace.com/📰 Grace COMMUNITY Blog: https://tinyurl.com/mue5epjf📧 Send us questions or comments! apruitt@roswellgrace.com

What is the opposite of joy? Sadness? No, because "Christian" joy is not really an emotion like sadness. It is an objective settlement and peace that is concretely outside their control. It looks like happiness, but it's really not. Joy can be present with the Christian even when our circumstances are at its worst. Like death. Yet Paul declared that a Christian can say, "For or to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain." (Phil 1:21). But even Christians can have an unbiblical, culturally influenced view of death that parasitically robs us of our God-promised joy. Have you heard of Spencer Silver and Art Fry? If you've used Post-it Notes (or some generic equivalent), you can thank them! In 1968, the 3M industrial chemists were working on "super strong aircraft adhesive" - and failed by only making a "low tack" adhesive. (Sigh!) Their "microsphere" adhesive left them perplexed. But Fry, a church-going man, wanted a bookmark for his hymnal that wouldn't keep falling out. He applied their adhesive and - lightbulb! - maybe there's a place for this low-tack adhesive? And the rest, as they say, is history! Post-it! notes earn 3M $2.5 billion (!) annuallly!Sometimes setbacks are the door way to hope. That was the topic of Nates message Sunday, the topic of today's podcast ... and maybe the topic of your current setback? "Joy," wrote GK Chesterton, "which was the small publicity of the pagan, is the gigantic secret of the Christian." How is that possible? Because the world equates happiness for joy. And because it will always be based on subjective, circumstantial experiences, happiness will always be dependent on how well things work for you. But Christian joy will always be a gift given from God to you in a never ending supply and completely untouchable from the world.
