Alberto Falcone was Holiday, the son of Carmine the Roman Falcone, Gotham City's untouchable crime lord. This serial killer held Gotham City in his grasp for nearly a year. His identity was unknown, only that he struck on holidays. I suspected Harvey Dent, Gotham City's then district Attorney. He was my friend. Oh, I was wrong. Harvey Den poured his life into the war against the Falcone crime family. He was a good man. Driven, honest, trustworthy. When it was over, Carmine Falcone was dead. We had won the war, but lost. Harvey Dent. Batman.

[Jim Gordon]

Enough. I won't let you do something that we'll both regret.

[Batman]

Alberto Falcone was sentenced to die in the gas chamber. But the Falcone fortune found its way to the right people. The judges, the civil servants. At the retrial. Alberto was found legally insane and committed to Arkham Asylum for rehabilitation. He meets now with the new District attorney, Janice Porter.

And from what I understand, you were not only there at the time of his arrest, you stood by and allowed this to happen.

I remember thinking that as many people came to the funeral as one of their lavish Christmas parties. Over and over, the people said the same things. Different words. The same intent. They came to console me. To tell me how sorry they were. To assure me that I was not alone. Always be with you, Bruce. All except for one man. Carmine the Roman Falcone. The father of the largest crime family in the city. Even then, I knew.

Your papa saved my life.

Should you ever need a favor, you asked for Carmine Falcone.

[Batman]

This was evil. August 2nd. Significant not only because it was the last birthday celebrated by the late Carmine Falcone but also on that same day, acid was hurled in District Attorney Harvey Dent's face. Though Dent survived, his career, his life, everything was destroyed. I lost a friend, of which I have few. And more important, in some ways, I lost an ally in this war. As a result. I realize now that the burden of ridding Gotham's city of the evil that took my parents lives take my arm. Men and women such as those below me must be mine and mine alone. From atop a nearby church spire, I see them all. On Halloween night, Sophia Falcone Gigante, the Roman's daughter fell from his rooftop apartment in an attempt to kill Harvey Dent. She addresses the small crowd from her wheelchair.

Papa. My father would have appreciated you all coming here tonight. He loved his birthdays. And this one shouldn't be any different. With the death of my father, I think it's safe to say that many of you didn't believe the Falcone family could hold together. We now know that isn't true.
