But at what cost? Former District attorney Harvey Dent is transformed into the vindictive two face and spends his days inside Arkham Asylum, Gotham City's infamous hospital for the criminally insane. Alongside those he put there. Meanwhile, a war is brewing to fill the power vacuum in Gotham's underworld. A war that will be fought between the old crime families and the so called costumed freaks. The Dark Knight will be no bystander. But after what happened to Harvey, he has no choice but to go it alone.
Batman
And now.
Narrator
Dark Victory Chapter 1.
Batman
Alberto Falcone was Holiday, the son of Carmine the Roman Falcone, Gotham City's untouchable crime lord. This serial killer held Gotham City in his grasp for nearly a year. His identity was unknown, only that he struck on holidays. I suspected Harvey Dent, Gotham City's then district Attorney. He was my friend. Oh, I was wrong. Harvey Den poured his life into the war against the Falcone crime family. He was a good man. Driven, honest, trustworthy. When it was over, Carmine Falcone was dead. We had won the war, but lost. Harvey Dent. Batman.
Jim Gordon
Enough. I won't let you do something that we'll both regret.
Batman
Alberto Falcone was sentenced to die in the gas chamber. But the Falcone fortune found its way to the right people. The judges, the civil servants. At the retrial. Alberto was found legally insane and committed to Arkham Asylum for rehabilitation. He meets now with the new District attorney, Janice Porter.
Narrator
I've been reviewing your arrest report. You endured quite a beating that night, didn't you, Mr. Falcone?
Alberto Falcone
Yes. Yes, I did.
Batman
His father's ability to manipulate the city extended beyond the grave.
Narrator
Hard to understand you behind that safety glass. Disgraceful. Do you have any feeling in your right arm?
Alberto Falcone
No.
Batman
No, I don't.
Alberto Falcone
Hmm.
Narrator
I'm not promising anything, but I will do what I can.
Alberto Falcone
Thank you, Ms. Porter, for giving up.
Batman
So much of your valuable time.
Narrator
Justice takes time, Mr. Falcone.
Batman
Oh, and Ms. Porter, for what it's.
Alberto Falcone
Worth, I am sorry for what I've done.
Batman
All the rest have 31.
Alberto Falcone
Except for February.
Batman
Alberto Falcone was placed across from Julian Day. Known as the Calendar Man. Julian Day also committed crimes that coincided with the calendar, but with far less notoriety.
Alberto Falcone
For what it's worth, Ms. Porter, I'm sorry too.
Narrator
I'm sure you are.
Batman
Alberto.
Sophia Falcone Gigante
Julian.
Batman
James Gordon was named commissioner of the Gotham City Police Department. His hours are terrible. He rarely goes home. Now that he has no home to go to, this job knows no limits.
Narrator
I've just come from Arkham.
Jim Gordon
Business or pleasure?
Narrator
You don't like me very much, do you, Jim?
Jim Gordon
Janice. Janice. It's late. I'm tired. Sometimes I say things I shouldn't. Could you take that sopping wet suitcase off my desk? Thanks. So you went to Arkham.
Narrator
And I'm considering reopening the Alberto Falcone case.
Jim Gordon
Holiday and I don't think that would be a very good idea.
Narrator
As district attorney, I don't need your approval. But I would appreciate your department's help in turning over all of the evidence.
Jim Gordon
Holliday killed more than a dozen people over that year. It was notions like the one you're entertaining that kept him from going to the gas chamber.
Narrator
I've seen his mugshots the night Mr. Falcone was brought in. I've spoken to both his attorney and to him. Batman did quite a number on him. In what way weren't his civil rights violated? And from what I understand, you were not only there at the time of his arrest, you stood by and allowed this to happen.
Jim Gordon
You're making a mistake.
Narrator
I don't think so.
Jim Gordon
She's gonna do this. That's her reputation. To be the bull in a china shop. I can't work with her office like I could with. Like I did before. I don't know if I can protect you on this one.
Batman
There won't be. And never was necessary.
Jim Gordon
I. I miss him.
Batman
Dude.
Jim Gordon
How can you be so cold hearted? He was my friend. I got drunk with him. We played cards until 4 in the morning. No matter what he's become. Harvey was your friend too, Batman.
Batman
It was on a night like this that I ran to my father. The thunder and lightning rumbled through the house. Instead of comforting me, he held me at arms length. You will be stronger if you learn to stand on your own, was all he said.
Jim Gordon
Damn.
Batman
This storm that rages in Gotham City. Tonight is only the beginning. I am alone. I still remember how loud the gun sounded. How bright the gun flare was. The terrible smell of the gunpowder. Then, not knowing what to do if I should run. If I could somehow stop him. But it was too late. And all at once, I was alone. My parents were loved by Gotham City. I remember thinking that as many people came to the funeral as one of their lavish Christmas parties. Over and over, the people said the same things. Different words. The same intent. They came to console me. To tell me how sorry they were. To assure me that I was not alone. Always be with you, Bruce. All except for one man. Carmine the Roman Falcone. The father of the largest crime family in the city. Even then, I knew.
Jim Gordon
Your papa saved my life.
Alberto Falcone
Should you ever need a favor, you asked for Carmine Falcone.
Batman
This was evil. August 2nd. Significant not only because it was the last birthday celebrated by the late Carmine Falcone but also on that same day, acid was hurled in District Attorney Harvey Dent's face. Though Dent survived, his career, his life, everything was destroyed. I lost a friend, of which I have few. And more important, in some ways, I lost an ally in this war. As a result. I realize now that the burden of ridding Gotham's city of the evil that took my parents lives take my arm. Men and women such as those below me must be mine and mine alone. From atop a nearby church spire, I see them all. On Halloween night, Sophia Falcone Gigante, the Roman's daughter fell from his rooftop apartment in an attempt to kill Harvey Dent. She addresses the small crowd from her wheelchair.
Sophia Falcone Gigante
Papa. My father would have appreciated you all coming here tonight. He loved his birthdays. And this one shouldn't be any different. With the death of my father, I think it's safe to say that many of you didn't believe the Falcone family could hold together. We now know that isn't true.
Batman
Despite appearances, without her father, Sophia is alone now as well.
Narrator
It's hot, isn't it, Mario?
Batman
H very Selena Kyle mixed in with sorts she shouldn't be with. Or should she? This is not the first time I found her at a Falcone gathering.
Narrator
But not as hot as the night Johnny Vitti got married.
Alberto Falcone
Shh.
Batman
Rare.
Sophia Falcone Gigante
Umberto and Pino Moroni.
Alberto Falcone
Should youse ever need anything.
Batman
Sophia. My respect.
Alberto Falcone
Sophia.
Batman
Representing the Maroni family and the Falcone's interest in narcotics.
Sophia Falcone Gigante
Edward Skeevers.
Alberto Falcone
Your father's smiling down on you.
Batman
Responsible for the importing, trafficking and exporting of stolen goods.
Sophia Falcone Gigante
Anthony Zuko.
Jim Gordon
Mr. Ganthi.
Chief O'Hara
It's an honor.
Batman
Also from the Moroni family. Zuko looks after their trucking and transportation concerns. Just being here. He's climbing.
Sophia Falcone Gigante
My cousin. Lucia Viti.
Alberto Falcone
Sophia.
Narrator
It's a shame Mama and Johnny couldn't be here.
Batman
The Vitis Run. Chicago. There's bad blood between the families over the death of her mother, Carla and.
Sophia Falcone Gigante
Her brother Johnny and Bobby Gazzo, one of my father's oldest friends.
Batman
Gazo is to Metropolis with the Roman west of Gotham City. As consigliere to the Falcones. He helps with their political connections.
Sophia Falcone Gigante
As many of you know, I could not attend my father's funeral due to my condition. My brother Mario was out of the country and my other brother Alberto is still not well. Veni, vidi, vici. Sleep well, papa. Dream the dreams of kings. All of you. Army familiar. Now together we will make history in Gotham City by restoring the balance of power. Away from the so called freaks who have usurped so much of our territories.
Alberto Falcone
Get him up with your hands where I can see them and come slowly towards me.
Batman
I've tried to live my life by not repeating my father's mistakes. As much as I loved him, I knew he was not a perfect man. Batman. Sophia Falcone Gigante will have to learn the hard way. Her father's legacy holds no promise. Gotham City will no longer tolerate the gangster, the hoodlum in its midst. All that will remain of the Roman Empire will be the blood, the bullets, that many more graves and a broken woman in a wheelchair.
Jim Gordon
Let's get back to the car.
Mario Falcone
Sophia, you do not want to be a part of this. We should go to Selena. Selina.
Alberto Falcone
I got you now.
Batman
You. I recognize the bola. She means to help. Although I don't understand her motives. Catwoman. Reckless. She'll probably get us both killed. Get down. Why are you here?
Narrator
Someone screamed for me to get down. Wasn't that you?
Alberto Falcone
This is the police. Stop where you are. The entire area is surrounded.
Batman
We should go.
Alberto Falcone
Lay down your gun. Put your hands on your head, little fish.
Chief O'Hara
What's that you're saying, Commissioner?
Jim Gordon
Some of the heads of the biggest crime families were gathered here. And all we caught were little fish. Chief o'. Hara.
Chief O'Hara
Been fishing every summer since I was a kid. You catch anything? It's a good day.
Batman
Police Commissioner Jim Gordon and Chief of Police Clancy o' Hara have brought half the Gotham City police force. Good men who try to do their job as well as they can. But the responsibility.
Chief O'Hara
What's this mean on the tombstone? Vinnie Vidi Vicki.
Jim Gordon
It's Latin. I came, I saw, I conquered.
Alberto Falcone
Huh?
Chief O'Hara
They're animals. A lot of them. Harvey Dent did this city a world of good. The night he put two into the old man's head.
Jim Gordon
You're out there. I know it. Why don't you show yourself?
Batman
The Responsibility must be mine and mine alone.

Batman
My father's house. Little more than a study in the master bedroom. The cave is below ground. The pool. The rest remains empty. Tell. Thank you, Alfred.
Narrator
Guess again.
Batman
Hi, Selena. I thought we discussed your coming over here unannounced.
Narrator
Didn't Alfred tell you I was coming? Oh, I'll have to speak to that man anyway. Bruce, there's someone I want you to meet. Bruce, this is Mario Falcone.
Mario Falcone
Mr. Wayne. A pleasure.
Batman
Weren't you deported?
Mario Falcone
I was a teenager and made some mistakes. The ignorance of youth. My family's reputation caused the judge to lean fairly heavily on me.
Batman
Yes. Judges and your family have a long history, Bruce.
Mario Falcone
I came here to offer my friendship. No matter the past, Falcone Imports is now completely legitimate.
Batman
Why tell me?
Mario Falcone
My father more than once said that the Wayne family was synonymous with Gotham City. And that we were indebted to you, Bruce, for your father's.
Batman
The debt, as you put it, is paid.
Mario Falcone
Huh. I see.
Batman
Now, if you'll excuse me. Selina, you know the way out.
Narrator
You keep behaving like this, Bruce, you won't have to worry about anyone coming here unannounced.
Batman
September. It is raining in Gotham City. But Jim Gordon has other things on his mind.
Jim Gordon
I know, son. I miss you too. No. Daddy doesn't know when you'll be coming home. I hope it's soon. James, can I speak to your mother? Oh, if she won't come to the phone, please tell her we're late.
Narrator
Jim, we better hurry. With this rain, the traffic is going to be awful.
Jim Gordon
Hold on a second, James. Does this look like a shoe in my hand, counselor?
Batman
District Attorney Janice Porter. As a result of Harvey Dent's removal from office the city council moved quickly to replace him. Harvard Law. Top of her class. Six years as a DA in Boston. A lot of experience in a short amount of time. But Boston is not Gotham City.
Narrator
I'll meet you downstairs in the garage.
Jim Gordon
James, are you there? Tell your mother I'll try to reach her later. All right. Bye. Bye.
Batman
Arkham Asylum. When the justice system fails to do its job, this is where the results are sent.
Narrator
Trouble at home?
Jim Gordon
Let's not have this discussion, okay, Janice?
Alberto Falcone
Fine.
Narrator
I just thought with us working together.
Jim Gordon
I don't consider what we're doing as working together.
Alberto Falcone
For.
Batman
This is where Julian Day, AKA the Calendar man, is kept to prevent him from committing crimes that coincide with the calendar. And where Alberto Falcone, AKA Holiday, is kept to prevent him from committing murders that coincide with the calendar.
Narrator
Mr. Falcone, I'm sorry we're late, but at least I have some good news. Oh, we have a court date. The judge was very interested in reviewing your brother's arrest file. Gotham City is that much closer to putting the entire Holiday matter behind it.
Alberto Falcone
I. I'm very grateful to you, Ms. Porter. I know, as district attorney, you had.
Batman
To make some difficult choices.
Jim Gordon
This is insanity. Alberto Falcone killed more than a dozen people his holiday.
Mario Falcone
My brother and I respect your opinion, Commissioner. We just don't happen to share it.
Jim Gordon
That's crap, Falcone. You're working the system like your father did. And like his father did before that.
Narrator
That's enough. The police commissioner doesn't have to like what I do as district attorney, but he still has to abide by the law. Judge Harkness will hear this matter and make a decision that we will all have to live with. Now, if both of you gentlemen will accompany me, there are still some details to be worked out.
Jim Gordon
Fine.
Alberto Falcone
Excuse me. Gar.
Batman
I haven't seen you before. Are you. I'm watching you. Okay?
Narrator
I'm not the bad guy, Jim. And I know you liked working with Harvey Dent. But the city council appointed me to repair the damage he did while he was in office.
Jim Gordon
You don't know the first thing about what Harvey did while he was in office.
Narrator
Fine. But it all leads back to this Holiday case. Alberto Falcone was beaten within an inch of his life the night of his arrest. Couple that with his psychiatric reports stating he was insane during the time of the Holiday killings, and I'm sure he.
Jim Gordon
Wed his bad until he went off to Oxford.
Narrator
Do you want a long trial over this one, Jim? Do you think your reputation could stand it? Not to mention the department?
Jim Gordon
I run a clean house.
Narrator
That's not the point. You and your men have come to rely more and more on Batman crossing the line. And I'm sorry, but now you're going to have to pay the price for that.
Batman
They've paused outside the cell of an all too familiar inmate.
Jim Gordon
We should go.
Alberto Falcone
Good to see you, Harvey.
Sophia Falcone Gigante
I want it on Halloween night. On the anniversary of my father's murder.
Batman
After her father's death, Sophia Gigante moved into his former penthouse. She meets with Umberto and Pino Moroni.
Alberto Falcone
We have the floor plans, entrances and exits, alarm system, the whole works.
Batman
Forget about it, Humberto. We got somebody on the inside and.
Alberto Falcone
Zuko is handling the hardware.
Sophia Falcone Gigante
Then Harvey Dent is a dead man. However, given that Dent is being held in the same facility where my brother Alberto is, I want to make it absolutely clear that nothing is to happen to Alberto in the process. Nothing.
Alberto Falcone
Hey, who turned out the freaking lights? What's going on here?
Sophia Falcone Gigante
There's no need to be alarmed. I took the precaution of electrifying the balconies just in case we had uninvited guests. Oh, my handler, Mr. Mi, will check and see if there's something or somebody out there.
Batman
Sophia, we'd like you to consider the hit on Harvey Dent as our gift to you. Seeing how our dad did half the job already, we ought to be the.
Alberto Falcone
Ones to finish it up.
Batman
As a sign of our loyalty and friendship with the Falcones.
Sophia Falcone Gigante
Done.
Batman
Excuse me, Ms. Gigante.
Sophia Falcone Gigante
Mr. Merti. Anything?
Batman
What the hell is that? Grappling hook. I believe it's for climbing the wall.
Alberto Falcone
Grappling hook?
Batman
The Gotham City Bridge. Midnight. Jim Gordon meets with old colleague, Police Chief Clancy o'. Hara.
Alberto Falcone
Gordon.
Chief O'Hara
How's the mission?
Jim Gordon
The same back in Chicago. She writes, but won't talk to me on the phone. I miss my son.
Chief O'Hara
Cops and marriages like drinking whiskey before 11am it's hard on a man.
Jim Gordon
Couldn't we have done this in the office?
Chief O'Hara
I'm not sure your office is safe. This is then the best you can find?
Jim Gordon
Does anybody else know about this?
Chief O'Hara
Not a soul. This was my first beat. I still walk home this way every night just to remember where I came from.
Jim Gordon
It was different than, wasn't it, Clancy?
Chief O'Hara
It was rough, but we held onto it. A cop meant something back then. Up until the Wayne murders.
Jim Gordon
Thomas and Martha Wayne.
Chief O'Hara
Here we had two prominent citizens. Gotham's first family in some folks eyes. Gunned down in the street. The case was never solved. Their blood wouldn't wash off the department. I don't think the boys in blue were ever the same.
Jim Gordon
What about now? You think we can make being a cop mean something again?
Chief O'Hara
You really want to know what I think? You should go talk to the Bat. You need to tell him what's going on.
Batman
GOTHAM CITY POLICE DEPARTMENT ROOFTOP.
Jim Gordon
I wasn't sure you'd come. You're on your own more and more these days.
Batman
I May be alone, but I made my promise. When I see this signal, I have to come. But I can't tell Gordon.
Alberto Falcone
This.
Jim Gordon
Porter, the new da, she set on releasing Alberto Falcone. She blames you. And me. I thought maybe if you met with her.
Batman
Give her a chance to let Janice Porter do what she wants. I have my own plans.
Jim Gordon
Which are? I know you're hurting. Harvey Dent was my friend too. We've all lost so much. You should see him in that place. Surrounded by the same criminals he helped put there. I can't help thinking how alone he is at Arkham. How alone we all are.
Batman
On a nearby rooftop.
Narrator
Wow.
Batman
How long have you been there?
Narrator
Long enough. What's the world coming to? When I'm about the only one you can trust?
Batman
Hey, what happened to your hand?
Narrator
I fell.
Batman
Didn't you say something about trust? Damn you.
Narrator
I don't even know why I bother. I want something for this. Your friend, Harvey Dent. He's in danger. The Falcones intend to have him murdered in Arkham.
Batman
He's not my friend any longer.
Narrator
Isn't there anything left inside you?
Batman
Enough.
Narrator
I hope you'll show a little more interest when they come after me.
Batman
Arkham Asylum. Halloween night.
Mario Falcone
You picked an appropriate night to finally visit.
Alberto Falcone
Bats.
Mario Falcone
We both look ready for a Halloween party.
Batman
I remember how important it was for you to get home to give out candy. Do you hear from Gilda? Who the hell is Gilda? Your wife. Harvey. You could get plastic surgery. Rebuild your life and I'll kick yourself. The scars are a little more than skin deep gunfire. Promise me. Harvey. You have to promise that no matter what happens, you won't try to escape.
Alberto Falcone
I promise.
Batman
Guard. Bolt that door. No one gets in her out.
Alberto Falcone
You don't have to bother.
Batman
You're an idiot. Harvey. I have miscalculated from Catwoman's warning. I assumed that there would be an assassination attempt on Harvey and on Harvey alone. No one has ever attempted a full frontal assault on all of Arkham. He would take intricate planning. Intimate knowledge of the workings of this facility. You're not leaving Hatter. And of raising willingness to turn this place into a mad house. Literally.
Narrator
Yes.
Alberto Falcone
Oh.
Batman
Free at last.
Alberto Falcone
No. Ivy.
Batman
Stay for it. The ensuing panic. Every criminal here becomes a suspect. Joker is gone. Scarecrow too. There's a hole where they escaped. And rope. They were prepared. It was made to look random. But there were choices made of who got out and who stayed.
Alberto Falcone
Solomon Grundy.
Batman
Even this. Sending Grundy to occupy me. He's fast, powerful. My only choice is to Pound away at him. Grab a length of the rope. Stand, Pull. One person benefits the most from all of this. Tonight being Halloween. The ruse, attack on Harvey. All of it would expedite Alberto Falcone's escape. Calendar man, where is he? Julian Day has left the building. Why didn't you run, Falcon? An innocent man has nothing to run from. If not Falcone, then no. Harvey's. Empty. The Falcone penthouse. Later. Where is Harvey Dent?
Sophia Falcone Gigante
Dead, I hope. Couldn't have happened to a nicer guy.
Batman
If you pursue this, I guarantee you will lose everything you have left.
Sophia Falcone Gigante
Everything I have left?
Alberto Falcone
Look at me. I can't walk. I can't turn my head. I can't even go to the bathroom on my own anymore. All thanks to your Harvey Dent.
Sophia Falcone Gigante
Look at me.
Batman
November, Gotham city courthouse, docket nine. Judge Harkness presiding.
Chief O'Hara
You understand, Mr. Mario Falcone, that by releasing your brother into your custody, you must take full responsibility for him.
Mario Falcone
Yes, your honor.
Chief O'Hara
I intend to keep him on a very short leash. An electronic monitor will be on his leg at all times. Any violation will not only be seen as a one way ticket back to prison for him. I will also make it my personal business to see that immigration takes another look at the deportation of.
Batman
You, sir.
Jim Gordon
Janice. You'll regret this for the rest of your life.
Mario Falcone
Jim, if it pleases the court, my. Our grandfather had an estate just outside the city, near Wayne Manor. We'd like my brother to live there.
Chief O'Hara
The court will take that under advisement. Mr. Alberto Falconi, do you have anything to say in your own behalf?
Alberto Falcone
Only that I am sorry, your honor. And I'm grateful for being given a second chance. No matter how restricted.
Chief O'Hara
Duly noted. Court is adjourned.
Narrator
Gotham gets out here. Mr. Falcone, do you have anything against me?
Alberto Falcone
Do you truly believe your brother's innocent?
Mario Falcone
Pardon me. Excuse me. Stay close to me.
Alberto Falcone
Is it really true?
Batman
Mr. Falcone?
Alberto Falcone
Question.
Batman
Do you have anything to say to the victim's family?
Mario Falcone
We have no formal statement to make at this time other than we are pleased with the judge's decision and grateful for the hard and courageous work by district attorney Janice porter.
Alberto Falcone
Right here, Mr. Falcon. One question, please.
Batman
Nearby, Gordon watches helplessly as Alberto Falcone goes free. Let it go, Gordon.
Alberto Falcone
I'll be watching Alberto very closely.
Jim Gordon
Who's there?
Batman
After the brazen attack on Arkham, someone is free. Someone is in the Falcone mausoleum.
Chief O'Hara
Fanny Feedy feature.
Batman
The next day in the Falcone penthouse, Sophia Falcone Gigante reads the paper.
Sophia Falcone Gigante
Holiday killer goes free.
Alberto Falcone
Sorry to butt in on you, Mr.
Batman
Gante, but this just arrived. I opened it to be on the safe side.
Alberto Falcone
Madre di dio.
Sophia Falcone Gigante
It's not Papa's finger. His wedding ring. Why would anyone.
Alberto Falcone
It's an old style message.
Batman
Someone intends to take everything from you.
Alberto Falcone
Piece by piece.
Batman
District Attorney Janice Porter's office. The site of a recent break in.
Narrator
I can't believe it.
Alberto Falcone
Oh, my gosh.
Jim Gordon
Janice, you in there? I came as soon as I heard. Arkham is still a nightmare. At least you weren't here when the break in happened.
Narrator
They took it all, Jim. Every last bit of it.
Jim Gordon
Every last bit of what?
Narrator
All of Harvey Dent's file cases. Everything he did in this office is da. Hello? Oh, my God.
Jim Gordon
Who is it?
Narrator
Chief o'. Hara. You're sure?
Batman
On a bridge in Gotham City. Police Chief o' Hara has been hanged. You should have someone cut him down.
Alberto Falcone
We.
Jim Gordon
In the past, you've wanted to examine a homicide scene undisturbed. God. This was the beat. He walked for 30 years to die like this. There's something pinned to his uniform. That's yesterday's newspaper. Holiday goes free. But what's this drawn over it?
Batman
It's a hangman puzzle.
Jim Gordon
N, blank. N, E Blank. F, Y Blank, blank, blank. R, E, S. Blank. Fe. None. Fear.
Batman
Safe.
Jim Gordon
None of you are safe.

— Narrator [00:01]
Alberto Falcone, known as Holiday for his pattern of committing murders on holidays, is introduced as the antagonist. Initially suspected to be Harvey Dent, Batman eventually realizes that Alberto is the true culprit.
