Doyle
What looks good.
Locke
That will at 20 year you have up there works.
Roche
It's enhanced cask strength. You want to rock?
Locke
Do I look like I take a fucking ice cube with my whiskey?
Doyle
No.
Roche
No, you do not. I'll leave the bottle.
Locke
So yeah, that does work. What is it about ueg? Colony worlds all feel like they were laid out by a schizophrenic robot. Was here a year ago on a job. Handler tells me there's a guy you need to meet. Has some stuff to sell us. Pay him and take it. He wants to renegotiate, Kill him and take it anyway. All my jobs are laid out like that. Pretty much go to X, do Y get Z if A, then B. Guy of course wanted to renegotiate. My old man, he told me it's all on the wheel. It all comes back around. Do you think that's right? Whatever we put out there, we're gonna get back. I mean, I don't even feel it anymore. Regret. The ambiguous moral incertitude when I pull the trigger. Now I don't even look. I just figure a man like you, he's gotta have some insight, some goddamn perspective. I mean, if anyone would Killian Sager.
Killian Sager
Fact you know my name. Supposed stir something.
Locke
Everybody in this place knows your name. That's why this side of the bar is empty.
Killian Sager
What is it you want? Because my perspective, it is not.
Locke
Oh, no, no, no. That was sincere. I feel. I feel at a crossroads. You know, things have surfaced, things that. Things that make one re evaluate. But yeah, you're not wrong. I do have other things to discuss. Opportunities of interest.
Killian Sager
Who I used to be that person. No more. Find someone else.
Locke
And you don't even want to hear the details.
Killian Sager
Opportunities of interest you could have for me. There are exactly zero.
Locke
Actually, there is exactly one. Anania Meta. Oh, now I have your attention. Big scary Cillian Sager. The man, the myth. Drinking his pain away. Lost to the world over a woman. I don't know, it's just so pedestrian. Given you have another drink, Sager, I'll tell you a story. And it is a tale. A Giant Macedorian ship lost in space. A treasure ship. Even.
Killian Sager
Treasure?
Locke
Oh yes. Buried deep inside. And different for everyone who comes to find it somehow. Scientists, engineers, businessmen. Jet addicted whores. Look at that. I'd say a glimpse of the person you used to be, at least. And all it took was a little nudge.
Killian Sager
Want to find out how far you can push me? Can find out.
Locke
It's just a story, Killian jumping to the end. My suggestion, the ending is you, myself and a team of other like minded, profit oriented individuals infiltrating this ship and taking its treasure.
Killian Sager
Use for treasure. I have little.
Locke
Don't even know what it is. For some it means credits. For me it's a second chance. For you, I think, possibly salvation. This is the cursory medical files of the participants in a very unique research project on said ship.
Killian Sager
I care why.
Locke
Flip to the fourth file. Ananya. Meta. Been looking, I hear feverishly. Or you were. Now it seems like you've crawled into a bottle.
Killian Sager
No, no. Would have found this.
Locke
You would not have found this. This ship isn't even registered. It doesn't have a name or a charter license listed. Experime undocked out of Mars a few years ago and then vanished.
Killian Sager
A ghost would have found this.
Locke
Now let's not get all sensitive. This is what I do. Find people, learn the things they care about. Use it against them. Or in your case, for them. She is there, Kellyanne. On this ship. And I'll tell you this with no malice. She is suffering.
Killian Sager
Why?
Locke
That's a good question. We can talk about it on the way. I booked us on a freighter to Thornton Station and leaves at 8 sharp. I'm staying at the exitore. They'll give you my room.
Killian Sager
Meant what I said. Value to you of me limited.
Locke
Oh, I know. I've got a feeling we can have you back to your own self in no time. Just another nudge or two. Listen to that. Listen to that and you'll be well on your way. This is what I do.
Killian Sager
Right about one thing, sad to say.
Locke
Oh, what's that?
Killian Sager
It is all on the wheel.
Locke
It.
Doyle
Doyle.
Lobo
Subject nine's here.
Locke
Huh?
Lobo
Go ahead and open it. Huh? God damn it. This one's conscious too. What are these? Cryo sedatives they've been using. Could be the factor. IVs are loose. These pods rattle them right out of the vein. Yeah, you're right. It's hanging right here. I can see it. Get her plugged back in. I'm gonna run the resonance scan. You're on the hey. What's her name? Who cares? I imagine she might. What's her name? Ananya. Ananya. You're on our research ship. Do you remember the ship? The project you were enrolled in? Where your IV came out? Can you understand me, Ananya? Ananya. You're too nice to them. They're people. They're jet addicts. No, no, no. Ananya. Stay where you are. Stay still. Let me help you. Stop struggling for me, okay? Get her damn IV in and sedate her. Shrine. Doyle, it. Son of a. Hold her still. I'm going to use a high bone. Don't bruise her. Hold her still or I'm going to hit her jugular, man.
Locke
Kill him. Whip.
Lobo
Hold her.
Locke
Bit me.
Killian Sager
Shoot her up.
Locke
She bit me.
Lobo
Checked her. Press her against the headrest.
Locke
Killian. Killian.
Lobo
You bruised her, man. Look at her neck. Gives a once she's in the grid. No one's opening this pot up again. But. Lost Dorian property. Seal it up. Okay. Bite my hand. No, no, leave her. Just seal her in there. IV is not back in. I know.
Doyle
She'll be awake.
Lobo
She'll be conscious in an hour. It'll be a day or more before the. The cryo kicks in. She'll be aware inside. So the fuck what? Bite my God damn hand, Doyle. Do it or it's your job. Is that clear enough? Okay.
Locke
Okay.
Lobo
Damn Jet addict.
Locke
What? Sar. I said eight. It's three.
Killian Sager
Why?
Locke
Why what?
Killian Sager
She is there. Why.
Locke
Right? You want a drink? Have a drink. You're worked up.
Killian Sager
It's clear to see answers, not drinks.
Locke
Drink. You're wound up. You need to cool down. The famous Kelly and Sager magnetics. Impressive. Just don't blow the rest of the room up. Drink first. There. Was that so awful? Look, I'll tell you what I know. Your lady does not simply suffer from normal Jet Remission syndrome. She suffers from type 3. Jet Remission Syndrome. Heard of it?
Killian Sager
No.
Locke
Most haven't. It affects less than 1%. Type 3s have rare brain energy which somehow continues to power the jet nanobots dissolving in their skulls. The result is their brains don't absorb em. They radiate it in waves that mimic human brain patterns. And sad to say, it is terminal. Usually within months after diagnosis.
Killian Sager
Would have known this. Would have told me.
Locke
May not have wanted you to know.
Killian Sager
Would have told me.
Locke
Oh, don't be so sure. A ticking clock like that, it changes all kinds of things. Maybe wanted to spare you.
Killian Sager
Mas. Dorian has need of type 3s the.
Locke
Moment her neurological scans were complete. All sorts of Flags got raised in all sorts of databases. Attainment teams were deployed.
Killian Sager
Why?
Locke
I have no clue. All I can tell you is that there's a project on that ship that requires a number of type 3s. 12, in fact. And I think the prudent thing to do would be to go find out for ourselves.
Killian Sager
And your angle is? Whoever you might be.
Locke
My name's Locke. And you and I, Sager, have one thing at least in common. We both have things on that ship we can't live without. You know what that makes us?
Killian Sager
Do tell.
Locke
Dangerous. Thornton Station. All these deep space ports are the the same. Full of pathetics thinking the end to their problems are on the other side of whatever stabilized singularity got dumped there by Evelyn Moss. Spend all their time trying to get through the game, only to find the other side isn't any fucking different.
Doyle
Find hope.
Locke
I find relying on the universe aesthetic hope all you want. At the end of the day, nothing happens unless you make it happen. Life is a string. One subtle, bitter irony to the next.
Killian Sager
Talk about wheels and irony. And hope. Who are you, really?
Locke
A deep, probing question.
Killian Sager
Starred basic.
Locke
All right. In my previous life, I was isd Mastorian. Axiom Tech. I was good at it. I liked it. Saw the whole road lay down, you.
Killian Sager
Know, settle bitter ironies.
Locke
That is the way. This is what we're looking for.
Killian Sager
A docking port. Chartered a ship?
Locke
Something like that.
Killian Sager
No one home.
Locke
Roche. Time waits for no man. Whether he'd like it or not. After you. What this ship?
Killian Sager
Extended cargo hold. Slots for heavy machines. Holding nothing. Tractor beam. Drilling ports on the outside. Ice miner ship.
Locke
You can feel all that?
Killian Sager
Things that belong. Things that don't. Containment podcast. Feels like other side of the door.
Locke
Been in a few, I imagine.
Killian Sager
Not for long questions. Though it does raise.
Locke
Ah. Why would ice miners have a containment pod?
Killian Sager
This Roche bounty hunter realizes. Imagine have a certain notoriety within his profession.
Locke
Thought never crossed my mind.
Killian Sager
Luck.
Locke
And this should sway even a doubting Thomas. Better to lose your purse, but keep your promise.
Doyle
Time to pay the piper, is it?
Locke
It is. You see, Kelly Roche here owes me his life. As well as a sizable amount of credits. On top of that, the certain parties knew he was still alive. Well, his world would get dark and claustrophobic very quickly.
Doyle
Flew all the way here from Seoul. We're here to settle, you say. So let's talk. Settling.
Locke
Settling is your ship. I need to borrow it.
Doyle
Borrow the Crichton. That's asking a lot.
Locke
You owe me a lot.
Doyle
What do you want her for?
Locke
Just a quick little jump. Back and forth with a small amount of violence as a prerequisite.
Doyle
Ah. Borrowing. Me too, then.
Locke
Well, I don't know how to fly her. And you are handy with the firearm.
Doyle
Glad you think so.
Locke
Oh, goodness. And who might these four heavily armed gentlemen be, Ro? Friends of mine, I guess. That much. But why are they here? You're not trying to renegotiate, I hope? You know how I feel about that.
Doyle
I'm just stunned.
Killian Sager
The rumors are true.
Doyle
The company you're keeping, I mean. Never known you to be an idiot, Locke. But you walk in here under my ship, thinking I wouldn't recognize Killian Seger if I saw him.
Locke
I didn't think that at all. I just don't see what it has to do with our arrangements.
Doyle
What it has to do with it is that his bounty is worth almost three times what I owe you.
Locke
And?
Doyle
And what possible reason would I have for not dragging him down to extrapol, paying your sick ass off and never seeing you again?
Locke
Well, for one, that wouldn't work for my agenda. And for two, well, no, it's really just the one.
Doyle
Always been such a smug, walking around like you own whatever room you're in. Well, you don't own this room.
Locke
Actually, I do, Ro. And not just the room, but you. Have you really forgotten that? I hope not. That's a hard lesson to relearn.
Doyle
Was going to let you walk out of here paid off. Would have been enough. Seeing you not get what you wanted for once. But now I think I'd rather just see you dead.
Locke
All right, then. You should know whoever draws first, dies first. Sort of a set an example kind of thing.
Doyle
Killer. Kill them and we're all, all rich.
Locke
I am a woman of my word. Oh, me. Is this a dance or isn't it?
Doyle
Killer. Do it.
Killian Sager
Do it.
Locke
Oh, so it is a dance. Killer.
Lobo
It's down.
Locke
You promised. Still not there yet, I see. You are hard not to crack, Killian Sager. I mean, Jesus H. Christ, what. What is it gonna take to snap you out of it? I arranged this rather dramatic encounter, putting you at risk of life and limb. Please.
Doyle
No, wait.
Locke
Don't. Don't. And you just stand there while bullets fly like some kind of Zen monk. Mom, please.
Doyle
Please.
Locke
But we'll get you there, Killian. We will get you there. I believe in you. You, though Roche tragically disappointed.
Doyle
Lock. Listen, listen.
Locke
I thought we had an understanding, you and I. I thought we were, if not friends, that a pair which possessed mutual fucking irresponsible. We do.
Doyle
We are.
Locke
Why does it Always fall to me in relationships. Why am I always the one doing the heavy lifting?
Doyle
I know what you're going through, Lock. Words all over the space tax. Rumors are right, aren't they?
Killian Sager
Look at you.
Doyle
You can barely stand up.
Locke
The words you're choosing, not of the wise variety.
Doyle
I'm just saying. You need me, Lock. You need me if you're going through what they say. You said so yourself. That's why you're here. Have a plan, don't you, Lock Always has a plan. Even now. I can help.
Killian Sager
I can help.
Locke
Maybe you have a point. Yes.
Killian Sager
Yes, exactly.
Locke
Friends again. Mutual respect. All of that.
Killian Sager
Yes.
Doyle
Yes, definitely all of that. Yeah.
Locke
All right, then. Which room is mine? Oh, great. You promised. My pain is your pain. You promised you weren't there. It hurts without you. I'll take your pain. I love you.
Killian Sager
All this power. Just pain. Just death. Am who I deserve to be.
Locke
No. You are who you've told yourself you deserve to be. Give me your hands on my head. Like this. The nanobots settled into my brain. You feel them?
Killian Sager
Feel them. Hate them.
Locke
The pain. I don't remember a time anymore when I didn't. It's the same for you. Not like mine. Maybe pain all the same. You take mine. I'll take yours.
Killian Sager
Could kill you doing this.
Locke
You want? You are more than pain and death. I'll show you, Ananya. I'll show you. You see? You see?
Killian Sager
Yes.
Locke
But do not believe that's okay. I do. I do. There he is. The enigma of the hour. Whoa, there. Take it slow. Took three bullets, center mass. Of course, by the time we got you in here, they'd work their way out. One of your specialties.
Killian Sager
Body does not like metal. Expels it with heat. Cauterizes wounds, as it does.
Locke
Always heard about you. Other. Some kind of boogeyman. Powers with metal. Dangerous? Far beyond that. Rumor mill said it was specific, what you were doing. Tracking down and offing the ones who made you the way you are. Axiom. Execs and scientists. Important people. Some sort of research. By Axiom. That's what made you like this?
Killian Sager
For years. Worked me. Worked me and others. Criminals mostly. Serving time. Offered chances to get out. Reality. Was the project. Much worse, far as I know. Only one that survived. Only one left.
Locke
You were target number one for Axiom Ist. For a long time.
Killian Sager
And now?
Locke
I don't work for them anymore.
Killian Sager
Looking to raid this empty ship. Suicidal? Seems like just the three of us.
Locke
Four. One more. Tech expert. She's at a refinery in the sector. Figuring out where Our mysterious MD ship is hacking the Guild's computers.
Killian Sager
Minus Guild would know why?
Locke
Because Macedorian contracted with them to supply ice for non potable water. They make runs every month, wherever it is.
Killian Sager
The Crichton ice miner used to be thinking. What? Trojan Horse?
Locke
Something like that. Presenting Moss Dorian's experimental vessel. XTX 38523. Dreadnought class. Total almost 9 km. 123 crew, 25 security officers, 15 combat mechs, 8 Hunter killer mechs, and a complete infrastructure defense package. All the bells and whistles.
Killian Sager
Normally say 10 men pulling this off, depending on what is intended.
Locke
What's intended is a smash and grab with one very large advantage. This is the ship's X core. Nothing special, defensively or otherwise. We're going to knock out power to the ship. When we do, the resulting computer reboot will give us complete access. Whatever defenses are online, turn around and are ours. Skeptical?
Killian Sager
Have a sense. Not someone who risks what you're risking without assurances, wandering though dark under pretense. But once you show your car, bring down a whole mess of hurt.
Locke
Lobo. That's my tech. She's doing more than just finding the ship. Once we get there and take the security checkpoint, she'll upload a virus, create the illusion of a second ship docked on the secondary airlock. And one hell of an attack. Enough to draw security away and keep them occupied.
Killian Sager
How is it you plan on getting to the X core? Closest docking bay is all the way stern. From there.
Locke
A very good question. The ship's broken into three sections, each deeper into the hole than the last outside section. Is this the Halo? There's a tramway circling the whole thing to help with getting from A to B, but if they want, they can rotate the entire thing like so.
Killian Sager
All the rooms on the outside move.
Locke
As one if you want, but each section, crew quarters, med bay, cargo holds, repair bay, etcetera, etcetera, can move individually. They're modules. And each module is composed of a series of nodes. With the exception of the bridge, the Engineering deck, security stations and the docking bays. The modules can be moved anywhere they need to be. And so can the nodes. The entire layout of the halo can be reoriented as needed. Classic Astorian over Engineering.
Killian Sager
And this helps how?
Locke
There's a giant track system out of sight of the rest of the ship for the modules to move on. We access that and move inside it, take it all the way to the Engineering deck, seal ourselves in the X core, and then you do your thing.
Killian Sager
My thing?
Locke
Quickest, most abrupt way to power down the X core.
Killian Sager
A pulse X core for a ship of this size, need one hell of a pulse.
Locke
Aros doesn't know it yet, but he's going to modify the X core on this ship to pulse all of its energy outwards. Once we're connected to the empty ship docking connection.
Killian Sager
Still don't see my angle.
Locke
In order for the pulse coming off the Crichton to work, we'll have to disconnect the big ship's feedback restrictors. So it goes right into the reactor.
Killian Sager
These restrictors magnetic in nature?
Locke
Just two giant metallic logs that work like capacitors. Shunting in between the hard lines. And limiting the flow of electrical current coming off the X core. That same current acts as a magnetic lock, keeping them sealed in place. But introduce a stronger magnetic force.
Killian Sager
How much stronger?
Locke
£600. Combined.
Killian Sager
Will both have to be held open until the pulse hits.
Locke
They would.
Killian Sager
Hmm. Your plan flawed.
Locke
Is that so?
Killian Sager
Getting to the X core. Too much real estate to cover. Locked in that track, too slow. Moving in there. Once they figure out no attack from the other airlock will find us. And then? Trapped. Need something faster. More direct. Just as discreet.
Locke
You have thoughts?
Killian Sager
Said the modules on the ship. The different sections made up of nodes. And the nodes can move.
Locke
Such is the case. Why?
Killian Sager
First room pass the document bay. Dry storage too. Storage nodes look like. Can move everywhere.
Locke
Yeah, I thought about that. You could take an empty storage node almost all the way to Engineering cold storage. Have to get out there. Make your way on foot. The rest of the way, not less.
Killian Sager
Walking.
Locke
Problem is, you can't control the nodes from inside. No panel. They can only be controlled from the computers in the different rooms. And they can be shut down very easily with us inside.
Killian Sager
This information very detailed.
Locke
Of course. What are you looking for?
Killian Sager
Schematics for the nodes there.
Locke
The nodes and modules run along a track system. I already told you.
Killian Sager
Electrical track system. Lots of power. Constant power.
Locke
I'm not seeing it.
Killian Sager
The rooms always on the track. How they get their power. For everything else not just moving. The nodes attach. Separate like so.
Locke
Supplemental track that connects to the main one. So what?
Killian Sager
So for nodes, seems like computers control what? Whether or not they move to the main track. Sever that connection node won't respond to the system.
Locke
Okay. Without the computers, how do you get a node to the main track?
Killian Sager
Only requires a coupling magnetics take care of the rest.
Locke
And once the node is on the main track now stopping it. Then if the controls are severed, it moves to the next module. You can do that much less Force.
Killian Sager
On those couplers than on the feedback. Disconnects. Yeah, can do it. One module at a time until we.
Locke
Get to cold storage. Then we're on foot.
Killian Sager
This lobo good as you say, distraction should keep the guards away. Path clear and easy. Bigger problem is the end of the road. Once we kill the power ship will know where we are. Not making it back after that.
Locke
The Boogeyman, Killian Saker now. You don't even draw when people are shooting at you. She must have had some kind of effect.
Killian Sager
Careful.
Locke
I'm just saying, you and I are from similar worlds, have similar armor built up around similar parts. I know what it would take to get through mine.
Killian Sager
Showed me could. Maybe be more. Came a time.
Locke
Believed in change.
Killian Sager
In change.
Locke
Seems to me there's two types of changes. Try and change yourself within your world, or your world decides to change you. The latter. I definitely believe in the former. No, it's like trying to swim upstream. Always gets swept back eventually. We are when we are. And denying that is your primary dysfunction.
Killian Sager
And you before Cargo bay seemed less than healthy. Roche thought so too.
Locke
Doctors say you shouldn't have a drink right out of a met pod. Doctors say all kinds of shit, right? Okay.
Killian Sager
More then.
Locke
Salud. I'm dying, Sager. Not slowly. Artificial neural rejection advanced anr.
Killian Sager
Seen it. Body doesn't play nice with your Augments.
Locke
Yeah, it's fighting them. And in the process, killing me.
Killian Sager
How long?
Locke
Six months. Were I to be fortuitous. But that's the thing. I refuse to believe that no matter how many motherfuckers have died with their body eating their Augments, I am not them.
Killian Sager
Guessing something. On this ship, it is a chance.
Locke
My last one.
Killian Sager
Maastorian tried to take her once. Hurt her in the process. Thought Axiom settling scourge. So went after them one last time. She asked. Not to win anyway.
Locke
Oh, you thought it was Axiom. You thought they were after you.
Killian Sager
Was not there. When needed, she was gone. This method you got, taking control of.
Locke
The ship, get the X core down and the ship becomes our best friend. After that, wherever you want, you find your salvation and I find mine.
Killian Sager
And this solution comes from where? No small thing. A ship that size that advance got a man guessing on the inside. On the ship, no other way. Ace in the hole like you got.
Locke
Does that change anything?
Killian Sager
Maybe not. But their angle, sure they are trustworthy?
Locke
Honestly, no. The contact I've had with them has been less than forthcoming. But everything they've said has been right on. They've arranged things, lined stuff up in a way that implies the kind of power most people don't have. That kind of power to me means my interests are probably flying way below their radar. The truth is, I don't think I have any other choice. Where else am I going to go? Is that who we've become? Leading something? So much we've become pawns. You think we're being used?
Killian Sager
Critical consideration. What we both want, things we both need. They are on that ship.
Locke
Guaranteed. That part is real.
Killian Sager
Then. How many times your life have people tried to play you?
Locke
More than I can count.
Killian Sager
How many times your life were they successful?
Locke
Zero.
Killian Sager
Let them try. Whoever they are. They roll their dice, we roll our hours.
Locke
Tough talk. I like it. But I'm still not sure you're ready yet.
Killian Sager
Try me.
Locke
Oh, I will.
Doyle
Killian Sager. Strange days. Biggest bounty in the whole galaxy. Nothing I can do about it.
Killian Sager
Regardless of circumstance, would say.
Doyle
Huh? Just seeing if the myths were true. Blind Killian Sager can still see just fine. Lucky for you it was a coffee cup, not a knife.
Killian Sager
Same result, rest assured.
Doyle
I thought maybe you really couldn't see. However you do it. Going off your performance in the cargo bay, maybe you just couldn't tell what was going on. Guess you just stood there while people tried to kill you. Guess you took three slugs rather than shoot back. Death wish. That what you got? Because that's not gonna work for me.
Killian Sager
Why's that?
Doyle
You ever been in debt, Seger? I don't mean owing some creds to a loan shark. I mean real debt. Debt. So heavy. No getting out from under it. Whatever you do and you feel this is it. This is your life now. Your mistakes just crushing down on you until you're dust. And when you have a chance to get out from under it, anything coming along that might fuck it up stands out in bright red. Highlight you with a death wish. Doesn't work for me. Do it on some other fool's errand. This one's mine.
Killian Sager
Fool's errand is it Locks.
Doyle
Calling in all her favors means she's got nothing to lose. I know she has A and R. I know she's on her last legs. Half the galaxy knows it. Whatever we're doing, it's her last chance. Which means anyone she brings on this thing, it's their last chance, too.
Locke
Having a nice little chat, Chad?
Doyle
Anyway, we're here. See the ice cloud? Right out there. If interested. Third largest ever found.
Locke
Not here to sightsee, am I? Where's the refinery ship?
Doyle
Coming up on it now.
Locke
Halum did you plug in the transponder I gave you?
Doyle
I'm not an idiot. Wouldn't hail him without the spoof ID.
Locke
Just checking. Ro. At your pleasure.
Doyle
Miners Guild 147. M.V. crichton. Miners Guild 147. MV Crichton. Miners Guild 747.
F
Don't recognize you. Where's your charter now?
Doyle
What?
Locke
Tell them we're from Hawking, looking for greener pastures. We're guild signatory. If they want the ID.
Doyle
Yeah, 147. We're relocating from the Hawking verge. We have our signatory id if you want it.
F
If we want it? It's protocol, ain't it? Yeah, we want it.
Locke
161164.
Doyle
161164.
Locke
HV22A.
Doyle
Shepard HV22A. Registration title is in Shepherd.
F
Standby.
Killian Sager
Crichton, if this doesn't work.
Locke
It'll work.
Doyle
If it doesn't, gonna have to get the hell out of here really fast. Miners Guild security is notoriously inept, but their drone swarms are not.
F
Your charter checks out, but I don't see any request for a transfer. We don't just hop mining operations one sector to another. This isn't the Banking Trust, is it?
Locke
Well, I didn't say it would work flawlessly.
F
Your vessel will be impounded until your hearing date. Prepare for tractor beam lock.
Doyle
That's bullshit. We applied for that transfer a month ago.
F
I don't see it. And me seeing it.
Doyle
Once for seven. I have the receipt file right here. This crap happens all the time. Guys like you looking to shake down charter adjustments for money under the table. And I'm tired of having to deal with it every single.
F
Okay, relax, Crichton. No one's trying to shake anyone down. If you have a receipt, take it to the Guild office in the morning. They'll figure it out. Until then, no. Operating in the area for five is open. Take it or take your ass back to Hawking. Have a good evening.
Locke
Not bad.
Doyle
Little attitude, sometimes all you need.
Locke
Bring us into the bay. Sager and I are going on board.
Doyle
And me?
Locke
You stay with the ship in case we need to extricate rapidly. When you're plugged into the refinery. Extranet, run a search for Lobo. All the channels, all the logs.
Doyle
I. Captain.
Locke
I hate Miners Guild refineries. The smell of them takes away weeks to get it out of your clothes.
Killian Sager
Any place you do like?
Locke
Sure. Generally, ones without any people. What were you and Roche talking about?
Killian Sager
Debts. Survival.
Locke
Well, popular topics these days.
Killian Sager
This tech expert Lobo. Why is Roche scanning for?
Locke
Because I haven't heard from her in a couple of days.
Killian Sager
Problematic?
Locke
Not sure yet.
Doyle
Talking. Hold on to something.
Killian Sager
Roche. Trust him after that stunt?
Locke
Some men. Most men sometimes they just need to get it out of their system. He's fine. He say anything I should know about?
Killian Sager
Seems complacent in his place. Desperate.
Locke
Good. Desperate. Keeps people on their toes. Motivated or reckless?
Doyle
Locked on. Pressurizing.
Locke
I'd rather have reckless and motivated than careful and uncommitted.
Killian Sager
Got that in spades.
Locke
Come on, Sager. Refineries. Don't touch anything.
Doyle
I believe we have a problem.
Locke
Yes.
Doyle
She's in the brig.
Locke
Lobo is in the brig.
Doyle
Two days now. Scheduled for extra bull custody tomorrow morning. Just says in the town of theft she got busted. Looks that way.
Locke
Where's the brig? Show me on my readout.
Killian Sager
There. Not far. Thinking jailbreak.
Locke
Needed that info in her head.
Killian Sager
No other way.
Locke
Not unless you want to rehack the server on this ship. Which now, thanks to Lobo, is probably on double lockdown. Roche. Mikhail's Gambit.
Doyle
That's what she's thinking.
Locke
It Brig is on the exterior wall. It'll have pods. You have a better idea?
Doyle
Yeah, Leaving.
Locke
Oh, relax. If you're lucky, Sager and I will be dead and you'll be debt free.
Doyle
That's a good point.
Locke
So can you do it?
Doyle
Yeah, I can do it.
Locke
Dust off. You know where to go. Don't guess I need to ask you about the gambit.
Killian Sager
Have run it. Usually more planning involved.
Locke
What's to plan? Beauty is the simplicity.
Killian Sager
We are getting in. How?
Locke
They're waiting on an extra pole, aren't they?
Killian Sager
Got faked. Extra ball crib.
Locke
I was Axiom isd. I have fake cruts for everything. Cheer up. This is the stuff of legends, Sager.
Killian Sager
Mayhap infamy.
Locke
Just look, it's better if you let me do the talking. Play it right, we can get out of this without setting off any alarms.
Killian Sager
Does not seem your strong suit de escalation.
Locke
Oh, but you've only just met me. Gentlemen.
Lobo
What are you doing in here? This is a secure area.
Locke
I should hope so.
Lobo
You aren't allowed in here.
Locke
But I am. Extra pole. You have something that belongs to us.
Lobo
You weren't scheduled until the morning.
Locke
Trying to up our efficiency ratings in this sector. Bunch of really. Just makes the ad look.
Lobo
You're not supposed to be here until the morning.
Locke
Yes, you established that previously. Alas, we are here now.
Lobo
Prisoner transfers take place on established schedules for a reason.
Locke
Well, we were Just hoping you might be accommodating. Can we at least go ahead and conduct our transfer interview? That way we can get out of here faster. Tomorrow.
Lobo
No contact with prisoners until the establishment.
Locke
It's just an interview. She can stay in the cell for all I care.
Lobo
No.
Locke
Is there a reason you don't want us to see the prisoner? She's smart off, is that it? What? You heard her. Rough her up some.
Lobo
You got to be kidding me.
Locke
Look, if you just beat her up some, we can deal with that. If it was anything else. We haven't touched her.
Lobo
You got to be kidding me.
Locke
I don't want to pull a charter audit, but if I need to, I can get a dozen agents out here.
Lobo
God damn you UEG bastards. Come in here thinking you can do things however you want when all we're doing is playing by your rules. You want to see her? Fine. You want to do an exit interview against protocol in the middle of the night? Fine. Do that, too. David, unlock the cell block lift. You sure? I mean, unlock the goddamn thing. Yeah, okay.
Locke
Interagency cooperation.
Lobo
Keep pushing it.
Locke
You know, neither of you look like extrapole. Then what does extrapol look like?
Lobo
More businessy, usually.
Locke
Well, the entrance requirements have been greatly relaxed the last few years.
Lobo
Jurisdiction or not. I'm thinking about knocking that smile right off.
Locke
Well, if jurisdiction really is the holdup, you should. Should know I don't actually have jurisdiction.
Lobo
Huh.
Locke
I'm not really extra full, and neither is this guy.
Lobo
What?
Locke
I mean, look at him. 65 with a red coat. Does he really look like a civil servant to you? Is she?
Lobo
She's not lying. Stop the lift.
Locke
Stop the. Still not lifting a finger.
Killian Sager
Thought we were de escalating.
Locke
Grab the security cards. Lock the lift down.
Killian Sager
10 minutes maybe.
Locke
I still think I have you figured. You're like a. A utility vehicle dead in a desert somewhere. You need a jump start. You need a dilemma. A real one.
Killian Sager
Lift down.
Locke
No. Now it's down. Why the hell do they need this many cells on refinery ship?
Killian Sager
Don't know. Ice miners very well. Got her. Cell 11.
Locke
Trying to get the lift working.
Killian Sager
Be in the stairs minute or so.
Doyle
Roche in position. What's happening? They stop docking other ships?
Locke
We check the alarms. Get ready. This one.
Killian Sager
That one.
Locke
One. Get your ass up.
F
Oh, hi.
Locke
Get your ass.
F
Hey, hey, hey. Okay, okay. Who's this guy?
Locke
Killian Sager. Let's go.
F
Oh, jeez. You got Killian sar for this to break me out?
Locke
He's here for the big thing, not you. Right now, I need you to get on a terminal and override the emergency cell ejection protocols.
F
Oh really? Why?
Locke
Because we can't go back out the way we came in, can we? Cards are on the way. Cards are on the way. Cards are. Focus.
Killian Sager
Is she.
Locke
She's fine. Just edgy.
F
I don't take that as an insult, by the way. I'm burdened with greatness and a keen sharp intellect that allows me to focus beyond the normal.
Locke
They're not going to use their meds in here, are they?
F
No. Attention. You have made very poor life choices. Tell me about it. Nice job on the elevator. 10 pissed off security officers are on their way down there right now. Got it. Not sure who so intent on free.
Locke
Thank you.
F
Cell ejection primed. You Want a timer?
Locke
One minute.
Killian Sager
Warning. Emergency cell block ejection protocol initiated.
Locke
RO. Standby for pick up. 60 seconds. Scan for my transponder.
F
Which cell?
Locke
The closest one. What does it matter?
F
Well, there's different sizes. I think probably the smallest one will be easiest for whatever.
Locke
Missed. Pick one.
Killian Sager
Guards arrive.
Locke
They have one Saer lock.
Killian Sager
Let me in.
Locke
Saer alert.
Killian Sager
Emergency.
Locke
It's a cell block door. Even more PSI than an airlock. You couldn't even open it. Save your energy. I told you. You need a jump start. You need a dilemma. Every cell in this place is about to eject. That leaves exactly one escape pod. So stingy with those ship builders. Not sure how you're going to make it there without resorting to previous methods. I have to know I can trust you. Have to know you are who you are.
F
And I have to know you know it too.
Locke
I feel optimistic.
Killian Sager
Damn. Damn.
Locke
You promised. You promised.
Killian Sager
I did.
Locke
You weren't there.
Killian Sager
I know.
Locke
You promised darkness.
Killian Sager
I know. But I think I have to take it back. Worried? Reversal means no coming back. Worried will fill some part of me. But losing myself. Seeing you again. Hear me. Once been lost. I shall be. There's someone behind that turtle.
Locke
Get to him.
Lobo
Get to him.
Locke
Back up.
Doyle
We need backup right now.
Locke
We need. Grenade. One of our grenades. There he is.
Doyle
He's moving to the. Getting it over.
Locke
Stop him. Stop him.
Lobo
Escape one. Ejection in three seconds.
Locke
Two. One.
Lobo
Ejection.
Doyle
Killing him. Sager. Maybe you don't have a death wish after all. Stand by for pickup. And hold on. We're full thrust right after. Got drones incoming.
Locke
Pressurization complete.
Doyle
Hold on for full thrust.
Locke
Sager. Holy. That was amazing. Did you even get a scratch? You actually repelled bullets in the air. Sent them straight back at those fuckers. How many were there. 10? 12? How many did you cut your way through to deal with you? Sager killed you. Killed me? Kill me for what?
Killian Sager
Left me there.
Locke
That's right. I left you there. And look at you now. Look at you. You are everything I hoped you would be. I told you I'd get you here. I told you. You should be thanking me.
Killian Sager
Kill you.
Locke
Fine. But first look between your legs. You want to take this to its final conclusion? We can do that. But who the would that benefit? Not me. Not you. Certainly not her.
Killian Sager
You and I start to think heading for a singular disagreement.
Locke
You're just now starting to think that.
Killian Sager
Pull something like that one more time.
Locke
You should be thanking me. Singer. You're who you need to be now. You're who she needs now. You should be thanking me. Now we're talking.

F
