I needed a break from unpacking. But just as I was able to take a breath and open my Hershey's cookies and cream bar, my new roommate Rachel walked in. I offered her a piece, but she said no. Then after a beat, she said actually those are my favorite ones. We left, the ice was broken and we've been friends ever since.

Caller
Hi Dr. Laura, longtime listener. Thank you for taking my call.
Podcast Host
Thank you.
Caller
I have a. A dilemma. So I found my biofather 10 years ago.
Dr. Laura Schlessinger
How did you find him 10 years ago?
Caller
Very strange. My mother never talked about him. The only reason that I even knew his name is because his last name was actually on my birth certificate. And a good friend of mine was kind of in the investigative world and she found him. Well, let me go back a little bit. She found the a person by that name who actually ended up being my brother. So same name, junior, senior, work out.
Dr. Laura Schlessinger
Did they have a long relationship? One night Quickie. What? How did this all come about?
Caller
Well, no, actually it was a year long relationship. After I was born, my mother actually lived with his mom. And his mother apparently helped raise me for that first year. Took me to church, had me baptized and not sure what happened, just everything just kind of, I guess disappeared after that year.
Dr. Laura Schlessinger
So all this time.
Caller
Woohoo.
Dr. Laura Schlessinger
So all this time your dad abandoned you?
Caller
Yeah. Yes.
Dr. Laura Schlessinger
And you wanted to find him? What for?
Caller
Well, I didn't. I. I didn't know that my. I actually lived with my. I Didn't know.
Dr. Laura Schlessinger
What difference does it make as to why he abandoned you your whole life?
Caller
Yes, ma', am. I. But I didn't know anything about my mom being with his mother. I'd ne. I really didn't even know that she even knew her. I'm telling my mom knew.
Dr. Laura Schlessinger
I don't care about that part. And I'm sorry you do. That's all. Nice curiosity, but this man knew and left you.
Caller
Yes.
Dr. Laura Schlessinger
So why do you care who he is?
Caller
You're right.
Dr. Laura Schlessinger
I don't understand. What kind of a man does that?
Caller
I don't know. And he has four other children.
Dr. Laura Schlessinger
It's irrelevant to our conversation.
Caller
Yeah. So in your opinion, I shouldn't.
Dr. Laura Schlessinger
I asked you why you care about a man who abandoned you and your mother.
Caller
Yeah, I don't.
Dr. Laura Schlessinger
Your bar is very low.
Caller
Yeah. Yeah.

I think that I met him and he was kind of. Kind of? Well, I know this sounds crazy. Maybe the father I thought I dreamed about, he was very kind.
Dr. Laura Schlessinger
He's a guy who knocked up your mother and abandoned you. Geez, woman, I know everybody wants a mommy and a daddy, but you're too old to live in Disney World.
Caller
Right? You're right. I guess I have a little bit of a guilty feeling because now.
Dr. Laura Schlessinger
Guilty.
Caller
Older. I know, I know.
Dr. Laura Schlessinger
Who cares if he's getting. Okay, let me make this clear for you. He's getting older and he didn't try to find you.
Caller
Right.
Dr. Laura Schlessinger
You owe him nothing.
Caller
Right?
Dr. Laura Schlessinger
Stop it.
Caller
Right.
Dr. Laura Schlessinger
He got. It goes two ways. If you think you should feel guilty that you're not taking care of him because he's older. Well, I got news for you. He didn't take care of you when you were younger.
Caller
Oh, yeah, you're right. Right. I think I really needed to hear that because I have stayed in contact with my brother. Not so much the sisters, they're kind of like the step monster that I have. Don't really even care about those people.
Dr. Laura Schlessinger
Well, you're competitive with them. You're not competitive with him.
Caller
Yeah, yeah. And he kind of gets a little bit of wrath too. And I kind of see that whole dynamic. And I don't. I wasn't. I wasn't raised like that. I wasn't around that. So I don't really understand all that drama that goes on there. So I just really don't have any contact and I haven't for a couple of years. And, you know, my brother called me not so long ago and said, you know, that's not doing well. You know, if you go. If you're. And they. They literally live four hours away. So it's not like I can just drive.
Dr. Laura Schlessinger
Why are you going on about this?
Caller
Yeah, you're right. I think I'm trying to. I don't know.
Dr. Laura Schlessinger
You said you didn't grow up with drama. You're creating it now.
Caller
Right? Right. Yeah. And I don't. I don't put my son around it. I don't put my grandchildren around that. I don't talk about. I say those people because they're really those people. Right. I don't. I don't. But every now and then, it just strikes the nerve that maybe I should
Dr. Laura Schlessinger
remember, this is a man who knocked up your mother and left you a baby and never turned back.
Caller
So my mom did the right thing, not just talking about him. She was really upset when I met him, but I did tell her she was very upset. I think she was hurt.
Dr. Laura Schlessinger
She stayed and took care of you.
Caller
Right.
Dr. Laura Schlessinger
He didn't. Of course she's upset that you give a. Yeah.
Caller
Yeah.
Dr. Laura Schlessinger
Feels like a betrayal to her,
Caller
and I don't. I would never do that, ever.
Dr. Laura Schlessinger
She feels. Feels. She feels it's a betrayal.
Caller
Yeah. Well, you definitely put a different light and perspective on it, and I certainly appreciate that. The guilty feeling just kind of just went away.
Dr. Laura Schlessinger
Good.
Caller
Yeah.
Dr. Laura Schlessinger
Well, I appreciate if you have a continuing relationship with your brother. I think that's neat.
Caller
Yeah.
Dr. Laura Schlessinger
Yeah.
Caller
Good, good, good. Okay. And I. I. And I do never would like to do that.
Dr. Laura Schlessinger
Never turn down nice people in your life. Never turn it down.
Caller
Because none of this is certainly his fault.
Morgan Stewart
No.
Caller
Yeah. Wow. Well, I appreciate you taking my call, and it certainly gave me a different outlook.
Morgan Stewart (Podcast Promo)
You're welcome.
Caller
Almost like a burden lifted. Good. That's.
