Anita (Caller)
Hi, Dr. Laura.
Dr. Laura Schlessinger
Hi, Anita.
Let's go.
Anita (Caller)
Hi. Yeah. Well, My son committed suicide two weeks ago.
Dr. Laura Schlessinger
When was this? Two weeks ago. That's pretty new.
Anita (Caller)
Yeah. Yeah.
Dr. Laura Schlessinger
And we have any idea why?
Anita (Caller)
Yes, I. I found out he. He did have a drug problem for quite some time. I thought he was clean and doing well, but evidently, well, addicts.
Dr. Laura Schlessinger
Addicts lie. Addicts lie.
And all the time. You know.
Anita (Caller)
I do know.
Dr. Laura Schlessinger
I'm so sorry.
You're right. It's suicide.
Anita (Caller)
No, he committed suicide. He. He shot himself in the head.
Dr. Laura Schlessinger
The drugs would have been enough. Yeah, that's. I call all of it suicide. That's a shame. Do you have any other children or do they have drug problems also?
Anita (Caller)
I have a daughter who doesn't talk to me.
Dr. Laura Schlessinger
So what is she pissed off about?
Anita (Caller)
I don't know.
Dr. Laura Schlessinger
What is she pissed off about?
Anita (Caller)
All of a sudden she went back to her childhood days after I gave her a wedding and everything and everything was fine.
Dr. Laura Schlessinger
Whoa. What about her childhood days made her pissed off?
Anita (Caller)
Well, they were no good that I worked. I worked days. My husband worked nights. So he had the kids a lot during the day. And she said that she. He wasn't good to them, which he. I don't think that's true because it never came up. He took them to different parks every day. He took them to friends houses. I mean they had a very.
Dr. Laura Schlessinger
What specifics did you ever hear from what she said? He was not good to them. So I guess she meant her brother too. So whether or not you believed them, what did they say would go on at home?
Anita (Caller)
That he would yell at them. That he yelled at them.
Dr. Laura Schlessinger
He yell at you too or you were never together? Were you ever together weekends?
Anita (Caller)
Oh, yeah, we were together. I mean, he'd yell sometimes, but people yell. I mean it wasn't. It wasn't.
Dr. Laura Schlessinger
No, no, no, no. People don't all yell.
No, they. They don't. That's wrong.
Anita (Caller)
That's true. That's true. You're right. I don't know.
Dr. Laura Schlessinger
I know you don't know. I think you don't want to know. And I guess she feels perhaps maybe that you didn't really protect her from him. Who knows? So you have two kids who suffered through things for which you're not aware. Totally. And this is terribly sad. And whether a kid dies just from an illness, much less from drug overdose, much less from suicide with a gun, a parent never quite lets that go. Because it's the wrong order of things. You know, we're supposed to die first.
Listen up. I haven't stuck around for over 50 years without earning some trust.

Kyle, again, really buy your car online. Really? For my family, I'm always at my best. That's why I also want the best in my kitchen. And that means only Eglan's best eggs. They're always so fresh tasting and delicious, with 6 times more vitamin D, 10 times more vitamin E, and 25% less saturated fat than ordinary eggs. So why give your family less when they can have the best Egglands best? Better taste, better nutrition, better eggs. For added convenience, look for our hard cooked, peeled eg.

But you have two kids who were very unhappy, and that's got to bring feelings of confusion and guilt and anger and all kinds of stuff. So I would recommend you see not a grief counselor. No, a good psychotherapist to deal with this on all the levels. Okay, you're going to need some help to get through this because it isn't. I can't use the word just. It isn't only that he killed himself. It's everything that came before. And the wedding didn't make it all better for your daughter. So there's stuff there. And hopefully you'll have a good therapist who will ask your daughter to come in. Because I think. I believe having that happen as part of the therapy will help you understand more about your boy and the drug use, etc. Just so sad. My number, 1-800-375-2872.
