Hi, Dr. Laura, a long time listener. I'm so glad to be speaking with you today. I just. I just love. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
Dr. Laura Schlesinger
How can I help?
Caller
Well, yeah, I. So two years ago, I got remarried. This was a second marriage for both of us. I had two children under.
Dr. Laura Schlesinger
Oh, tell. Say again. I didn't quite hear that word. How long ago did you marry? Two years.
Caller
Okay, two years ago. Yeah. And so I knew he had issues with alcoholism.
Dr. Laura Schlesinger
You knew that when you married him? Geez Louise, why would you vote for that? Oh, my gosh, explain it to me. I can't wait to get a drunk guy. It'll make my day. What's that about?
Caller
Well, I never saw him take a sip of alcohol while we skated for, you know.
Dr. Laura Schlesinger
Okay, well, some women. Some women live with serious serial killers and haven't seen them murder anybody.
Caller
Right.
Dr. Laura Schlesinger
But. Okay, go ahead.
Caller
Yeah, so I think. And then once we marry, you know, he moved in. We, you know, were celibate, you know, leading up to that point, but he. He changed. And these narcissistic behaviors.
Dr. Laura Schlesinger
Don't start. Oh, no, come on. People don't become narcissists overnight. Come on. Well, why do you guys like to do that? Everybody keeps throwing narcissism at me. Cut it out.
Caller
I know.
Dr. Laura Schlesinger
You were desperate to have a guy and you picked him.
Caller
I think. Yes, I think now I. I had my blinders up for sure and I. Codependent. Yeah, I was codependent.
Dr. Laura Schlesinger
Oh, another psychobabble term, codependent.
Caller
Yeah, sorry. But anyways, long story short, anything but.
Dr. Laura Schlesinger
Say I made a stupid decision, which was immature and at my age I should have known better, but I was kind of desperate. Hardly anybody ever calls and just says the truth. They always try to blame it on someone or something.
Caller
Yeah.
Dr. Laura Schlesinger
You knew this was not the best guy. You knew it.
Caller
Yeah.
