Because it's epidemic, you parents are turning into maniacs. Every friend I have who has kids is sort of in this. When I grew up, I don't know, after school, you found things to do. Kids are so structured today because you folks are determined they should have all the options to be the best, the fastest, the smartest, the most successful, have most friends. You know, in yesteryear, you just threw your kids out of the house in the afternoon and said, come back from dinner for dinner. That was it. That was my instruction. Be here for dinner. And somehow we always were. Now it's all structured, scheduled and very intense. One of the reasons we have a lot of anxious, depressed kids, We're making kids act like mini adults instead of kids. Generally, it's the parents pushing their offspring to achieve beyond their age. Even though we're not looking at it that way, we think we're just providing wonderful options. But research shows it often leads children to have depression, anxiety, and they don't do well in school. Kids are being pushed to grow up too soon, taking on worries, responsibilities and stresses of adult life. This is happening in all areas. School, extracurricular activities, sports, social lives, parents pushing. How come you. I've had people, they don't have enough friends. What do you mean they don't have enough friends? Do they have a friend? Yeah. Okay. Not everybody wants a hell of a lot of semi friends. And in sports situations, that's where you usually garner more activities and friends. Tutoring kids beyond their age appropriate levels. Parents over sharing financial concerns, marital concerns, having their children hyper focused on winning or competition and the expectation of constant discipline. Some parents sign toddlers up for classes. Language, sports. Get the Head start is desirable. Well, the Head Start program failed, by the way. It still fails and they still have it. What the hell. Kids should be on their own focusing on developing social and emotional skills and, and they do that through play, pretend and play. Everybody wants to have an exceptional child. If we had little test tubes lined up that you could pick a baby, put it in the mother's uterus, you know, really smart, very successful, you know, sweet and compassionate, nobody would pick that one. Nobody picked that one. Throw that away. We're very demanding. We want to fast track our kids childhoods without realizing that's what we're doing now. From competition in education ramping up constantly to a greater awareness of what you think peers are doing. Thanks to social media. Parents look at that. Kids look at that and go, oh, I'm not enough. Cultural norms are emphasizing achievement and success. At five. At five I didn't find my place in the world till I was in my 30s and then here I am. So exposing kids to technology. Not a good thing. Social scientists agree that kids who are permitted to experience the world in that way develop greater. Oh, I'm sorry. If you want kids to have greater. Emotional resilience and better equipped to solve problems, take them off technology. I don't want to have an argument with my kids. I'm tired. At the end of the day, the last thing I want to do is argue with my kids.
