Call you to tell you that about that one telephone call that I heard you and another gentleman on the phone. And I'm and after that call I was just, I was able to turn a page in my life saying I want to tell you about what that page was.
Dr. Laura
Tell me.
Caller
So the gentleman that called about his life and how he, his mother was belittling him and he became like he went into art, he went to college in arts, but, but her expectations was for him to go into college for business and he didn't do that. And she was always belittled. He just felt bad. And she had died, she was gone and he was struggling with her death. And what you told him was, did she treat your father and your sister like that because he had a sister? And he goes, oh yeah, she treated them both like that. And you said, well then it was her personality. It was not personal. It wasn't about you personality. And you need to accept that. And when I heard that call, it rang home clear to me. It rang clear to me because that's exactly how I was feeling about my mom. Like it was some personal attack on me. But then I realized she was like that with everybody in her life and so it's not a personal thing. She, that was her personality. That was her and she's gone now and she deceased and I don't have to ride that roller coaster anymore. I can get off. But yes, I wanted to tell, I wanted to tell you what also happened was you have a deep dive on Thursdays. You do a deep dive and you did a deep dive about not your past, letting go of your past or I don't remember the exact title. And so I listened to that and I made it my homework. I gotta listen to the Deep Dive podcast before I tell Laura about the call that that helped me out so much. So I today I listened to the Deep Dive podcast about hurtful things in the past and I also learned that I can plant beautiful flower doo doo that they dealt me and use that as fertilizer. And I can.

It's just. It's so amazing. It's. It's freedom. And so how do I go forward? Well, I'll tell you what then. You quoted you. You didn't quote. You said something about Luke in the Bible that if you hold on to the pl, you're not. You won't go to heaven. If you look back, I'm like, oh, okay, so now I get to hold on to the plow, don't look back and realize that, you know, I can turn the page. That that's just the way my mom was. That's just the way that my past was. That's just, It's. It's just like I'm an alcoholic and I've been sober for seven years.
Dr. Laura
Congratulations.
Caller
Thank you. And you talked about the fourth step. The fourth step and how it. I've been seven years sober and I hate the fourth step. And I haven't really approached it, but I found out today that I can call you up and tell you that I was a disrespectful, self indulgent, egoistic, selfish, jealous, you name it. And then. And so without going into intimate detail about everything I've done, I've just performed my fourth step, too, because I told Dr. Laura.
Dr. Laura
Nice, nice. Thank you for having me help be a participant. Thank you.
Caller
You're welcome. I've been listening to you, coincidentally, seven years since I've been sober, I started listening to you. And it's just in combination. I'm just blessed. I'm looking forward to life and I could be happy. I can let go of all the childhood molestation and yada, yada, yada, yada that I've had in my life. Because I'm just going to grab that plow and not look back.
Dr. Laura

In the episode titled "I've Turned the Page!" Dr. Laura Schlessinger continues her tradition of providing no-nonsense advice infused with ethics, accountability, and personal responsibility. This episode features heartfelt stories from listeners who have found clarity and transformation through Dr. Laura's guidance. Two remarkable callers share their journeys of overcoming personal struggles, illustrating the profound impact of Dr. Laura's counsel on their lives.
At [00:46], a listener reaches out to share how a previous episode profoundly influenced his perspective on his strained relationship with his late mother. He recounts a poignant moment where Dr. Laura addressed another caller's experience of being belittled by his mother, helping him realize that his mother's behavior was a reflection of her personality rather than a personal attack.
The caller explains, "When I heard that call, it rang home clear to me because that's exactly how I was feeling about my mom. Like it was some personal attack on me. But then I realized she was like that with everybody in her life and so it's not a personal thing. She, that was her personality. That was her and she's gone now and she deceased and I don't have to ride that roller coaster anymore. I can get off." ([01:08])
This realization allowed him to separate his self-worth from his mother's criticism, leading to emotional freedom and the ability to "turn the page" on his past.
Dr. Laura acknowledges his breakthrough with affirmation at [03:34], saying, "Good idea." This brief yet supportive interaction underscores her role in facilitating listeners' self-discovery and healing.
Later in the episode at [06:46], another caller shares a deeply personal story about his journey to sobriety. Celebrating seven years of being sober, he reveals how Dr. Laura's discussions on personal responsibility and letting go of the past have been instrumental in his recovery process.
The caller reflects on a scriptural insight, stating, "You quoted you. You didn't quote. You said something about Luke in the Bible that if you hold on to the plow, you're not. You won't go to heaven. If you look back, I'm like, oh, okay, so now I get to hold on to the plow, don't look back and realize that, you know, I can turn the page." ([06:46])
This metaphor emphasizes the importance of moving forward without dwelling on past mistakes, a principle that significantly aided his sobriety.
Dr. Laura responds warmly with congratulations at [07:35], saying, "Congratulations." Her supportive remark reinforces the caller's achievements and encourages continued personal growth.
The caller continues, "I've been listening to you, coincidentally, seven years since I've been sober, I started listening to you. And it's just in combination. I'm just blessed. I'm looking forward to life and I could be happy. I can let go of all the childhood molestation and yada, yada, yada, yada that I've had in my life. Because I'm just going to grab that plow and not look back." ([08:30])
This powerful testimony highlights the transformative power of Dr. Laura's advice in overcoming trauma and embracing a hopeful future.
Dr. Laura offers heartfelt praise at [09:02], stating, "Proud of you." This affirmation serves as a pivotal moment of validation for the caller, reinforcing his progress and resilience.
