I am beyond excited to welcome Baby Bear 🐻🐾 into my heart and home. He’s a 9-week-old shepherd mix who just escaped the cold steel and chaos of Devore Shelter—one of the highest-kill shelters in the country. Baby Bear was found with his three siblings near the 19000 block of Kendall in San Bernardino, and now he’s finally safe in my care. He’s headed into a loving foster home where he’ll be cuddled, cherished, and shown the way by his new foster sister, Lily. No more fear. No more cages. Just healing, play, and the freedom to finally be a puppy. 💛 This foster journey is in partnership with The Cat and Dog Rescue nonprofit, @floefsociety—the passion project of my son and daughter-in-law. I’m so excited to share this journey with all of you and to open my home and heart along the way. His three siblings are still at Devore, and it is our mission to get them fostered and adopted. I hope you’ll consider fostering, adopting, and donating to nonprofits dedicated to saving animals from...

And connect with me 24 7@drlaura.com so my devious son sends me a picture of the cutest puppy ever and says, if this dog isn't fostered today, it's in a kill shelter. It's like eight weeks old and the most adorable face. And I said, okay, well, then bring it here and it won't get terminated. Bring it here. The three siblings evidently haven't been fostered yet, so we're all worried that they may not survive. So you may want to get into. She looks. He looks like a little bear. So his name is Bear. Looks like he's part Australian shepherd. And Shepherd. Shepherd, you know, the cropped off tail look, I don't know, but he rolls on his back. I mean, this dog was starved out in the cold and totally trusting and flips over on his back, says, rub my belly. I'm good. I went from hell to heaven in one day. Okay. Evidently, they were all left in a box behind a Walmart in San Bernardino. And my son and his wife are very involved in fostering, rescuing, adopting out mostly cats. They're just getting into dogs because the two of them are freaks about cats. Okay, let's just say it the way it is. We'll go for a walk, all of us, and two blocks away, they'll see a cat. And they have to go visit it. And they rescued a big black cat who never left the house again. And it's all very cute. So this just happened yesterday afternoon. And yeah, we've had two accidents in the house, but the dog jumped off my tall bed to go near a window that, you know, a door window, so. And I've been taking him out every hour and saying, go pee, pee. And he does. So we'll see.

Amazon Pharmacy presents painful thoughts. 20 more minutes to kill in the pharmacy before my prescription is ready. Maybe I'll grab some deeply discounted out of season Halloween candy. I never had a chocolate pumpkin with raisins before. Those were raisins, right? Next time, use Amazon Pharmacy. We deliver. And no, those were not raisins. Amazon Pharmacy Healthcare just got less painful.

Episode: Saving a Dog From a Kill Shelter
Host: Dr. Laura Schlessinger
Date: January 20, 2026
In this heartfelt episode, Dr. Laura recounts a deeply personal story about rescuing an eight-week-old puppy from a kill shelter after her son sent her a photo of the dog in urgent need of fostering. Using her signature blend of candor and compassion, Dr. Laura explores not only the immediate rescue effort, but also the broader themes of kindness, responsibility, and how small personal actions can make a big difference—especially for those most vulnerable.
“I said, okay, well, then bring it here and it won’t get terminated. Bring it here.” (01:31)
“This dog was starved out in the cold and totally trusting and flips over on his back, says, rub my belly. I’m good.” (02:23)
“I’ve been taking him out every hour and saying, go pee, pee. And he does. So we’ll see.” (03:35)
“If you are anywhere near … and you want to get one of the other three, you better hurry up because I’m worried that they’re going to euthanize them, and they’re all cute.” (06:23)
Family quirks: Dr. Laura jokingly refers to her son and daughter-in-law as “freaks about cats” and tells how their walks regularly get interrupted by neighborhood cat rescues.
“We’ll go for a walk, all of us, and two blocks away, they’ll see a cat. And they have to go visit it.” (02:56)
Dog’s demeanor: Even after a traumatic experience, Bear’s trust in people is highlighted as both moving and inspiring.
On Pet Rescue and Compassion:
“I went from hell to heaven in one day.” (02:17, paraphrasing what Bear’s attitude seems to say)
On Fostering and Uncertainty:
“But I’m still at the if stage. Never mind that I just paid the money for a year of vet insurance. Yes, I did that already, but I haven’t decided yet. Yeah, sure. Okay. And he’s very chill.” (06:20)
Dr. Laura’s tone is candid, caring, and slightly humorous, blending emotional storytelling with practical advice. She draws listeners in with her warm, relatable delivery, and uses humor to lighten the subject while emphasizing the urgency and importance of helping animals in desperate situations.
This episode serves as both a touching personal anecdote and a passionate appeal for animal welfare. Dr. Laura’s openness about the realities—joys and messes alike—of bringing a rescue animal into her home exemplifies her mission: using everyday life as a platform for teaching compassion, responsibility, and the power of individual action.
For more information on adopting Bear’s siblings or supporting local rescues, Dr. Laura encourages listeners to take immediate action and spread the word.
