Speed Dating Pros, Cons and Tips for Success Speed dating events Generally at venues such as a restaurant, a cafe, a bar, an event space or a park. The events often involve food and drinks to help everyone relax, mingle and have a good time. However, for people who prefer virtual events, some speed dating events are hosted online. I don't know. Speed dating events are often geared toward a specific group of people based on age, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, profession, income or interests. I don't think you'd see that doing it virtually. I think everybody would be more uncomfortable showing. But when you're sitting right across from somebody, you're probably going to be more authentic. Number three, it saves time and effort. Going out on dates can cost a lot of time, money, and effort. Oh, I remember in the old days, you date somebody and you realize, you know, an hour into the I want to go home so bad. So this eliminates some of that. Okay. It reduces uncertainty and awkwardness. Now, meeting someone for the first time at a bar can come up with a lot of uncertainty and awkwardness. Yeah, I wouldn't like to do that. Should you talk to them or ask them out? If someone has approached you, should you give them your number? No. The speed dating format has a fixed set of rules that circumvent awkwardness. You are not under any obligation to share your contact details with anyone. And you're supposed to not have any hard feelings if the day doesn't work out. Next. It offers a sense of safety. Sense of safety in knowing that the event is governed by rules. And the organizers will ask anyone who behaves inappropriately to get the hell out. The event is conducted in a public place, so there are other people around. Your contact details are private unless you choose to share them. Meeting people face to face reduces the risk of being catfished with somebody saying they're one thing when they're another. You know, I'm 25 and they're 82. You know, that sort of thing. Here are some of the disadvantages of speed dating. It can feel rushed, and it's hard in a certain amount of time to determine whether you have common interest or gauge compatibility. Well, that's true. This is just a surface experience which opens a door. Doesn't guarantee that if you walk through that door, your life is blessed. Okay. It can put too much emphasis on the first impression. Well, if you're looking for gorgeous or terminally handsome. Yeah. Because very few people are totally gorgeous and unbelievably handsome, that's actually rare. So most of us are normal people. So you know if somebody has a pleasant demeanor. So I don't consider that a disadvantage if your attitude is in the right place. It can be hard for people with social anxiety. I don't care. So go to a therapist, deal with your social anxiety and then sign up. Okay, that's not a disadvantage. It may not necessarily help you meet the right person. Duh. It's just a tweak. It's a tweak, so it can be disappointing. Okay. Do's and don'ts. Let me tell you from this list of the do's Keep an open mind toward the process and potential partners. Keep the conversation starters handy. Have some notions in your mind of how you begin a discussion. Strike a balance between speaking and listening. Nobody likes anybody who talks all the time or says nothing. Ask a friend to do practice dates if you're nervous. Try to relax and be your authentic self. Don'ts. Don't talk negative about the process or pointing at people and being critical. Don't be a Karen. Don't treat the date like an interview. Don't monopolize the conversation. Don't stay silent.
