Hello and welcome to Forever 35, a podcast about the things we do to take care of ourselves. I'm Dory Shafrier.
Raj Panjabi
And I'm Elise Hu. And we're just two friends who like to talk a lot about serums.
Noah Michaelson
And this right here is a mini episode where we hear from you, we share your comments and your thoughts, and we answer your questions to the best of our ability. But please remember, we are not experts. We are podcast hosts. And we always encourage you to seek support first and foremost from a medical and or mental health professional as needed.
Raj Panjabi
This community is here for you though, if you need dish towel recommendations.
Noah Michaelson
Would you consider yourself a dish towel expert?
Raj Panjabi
I am not. But what I mean is, even though we are not experts, our community might be. And that's true. Dish towel recommendations don't typically require mental health professionals. So we had a really good time with dish towel recommendations a good season ago. So that. That's just what I thought of when you did the disclaimer this time.
Noah Michaelson
That's so funny. Well, yeah. How's it going? How was your weekend?
Raj Panjabi
Oh, man. I am still recovering from this past weekend. Some things happened that were planned. Some things happened that were. That were unplanned.
Noah Michaelson
Wow.
Raj Panjabi
But the conclusion was when Rob left my house this morning, he was like, I'm getting out of here. We are over scheduled. I need to go to my cave. And basically we found out on Friday, like late Friday or maybe late Thursday night, maybe the night before that. G Love, who is a big Philly musician, that he used to be into like 30 years ago. And has continued to be a very successful touring musician. Collaborated with Jack Johnson, which is how I knew him back in the aughts when Jack Johnson and G Love had some collabs that then brought G Love into my consciousness. G Love was playing the golf course. The nearby golf course. I guess he has just finished a tour and was doing a favor for a friend and was headlining the golf course concert series that happens every summer near me here on the west side. And Rob was like, oh my God, G Love, we have to go. And so that started our weekend. He was very good. The last time that he had seen him was the 90s and the last. And then I texted a photo to Dor and Dorie. You last saw him in the 90s too, too.
Noah Michaelson
I sure did. I sure did. I saw him in 19, I think, like, I think I saw him like my first semester of undergrad. I probably have the ticket stub somewhere.
Raj Panjabi
That's. That's amazing. That would be amazing. And he is just such an entertaining musician because he was able to before he get. Got other folks on stage. He was playing percussion with his feet and guitar with instrument and everything with his hands and arms and he was playing harmonica. That was mounted on him.
Noah Michaelson
He's a one man band.
Raj Panjabi
He really, truly is a one man band. It was so good. And because it was the golf course, you could just get right up on there onto the stage, like nearly onto the stage. It's rare that there's a big show where you can get so close anymore.
Noah Michaelson
I love that. I had a great time looking through some old ticket stubs here. You know, back in the day, seeing live music was not that expensive.
Raj Panjabi
No, it wasn't.
Noah Michaelson
And now it's really expensive. So, you know, a not wealthy college student like me could, could go to a lot of great shows. It's like sad.
Raj Panjabi
Yeah.
Noah Michaelson
All this stuff is so expensive now.
Raj Panjabi
It really is.
Noah Michaelson
Now I'm like determined to find this. I realize that this is a real. This is like real side quest.
Raj Panjabi
I didn't mean to send you down this rabbit hole. And speaking of rabbit holes, Luna was in a show. Alice in Wonderland junior.
Noah Michaelson
Oh my God.
Raj Panjabi
It made me realize that that whole play or that whole story is just one long extended trip. I realized I hadn't seen Alice in Wonderland perform and it felt like such an acid trip until one of the other parents reminded me, well, the whole story of Alice in Wonderland is the story of basically a trip she goes on. Totally, essentially like a consciousness bending trip. So it would make Sense. And she was correct, right?
Noah Michaelson
Yes. That's very funny. Who, Sorry, did I ask you who Luna played?
Raj Panjabi
She was in, like, the company she played. She didn't have any speaking parts. She was the nine of spades or something. She was like a giant card. A giant card. It was very cute. I was just relieved that it wasn't another Disney musical because they have been in many school musical productions of various Disney shows and I was ready for something different. So that went well. The reason why I'm so. I'm in recovery, though, is because Sunday was crazy. Sunday I decided to run a 5k with the students who run as part of the LA marathon training program. There's this great group in LA called Students Run la, where public school kids can take part in running clubs at their school. And they run a series of road races throughout the year, all culminating with the LA Marathon. And so some of the kids, if you're. And you can start. Cool. Yeah. And you can start in middle school. And so some of the kids who are graduating this year, they've run six LA marathons in a row because they did it in 7th, 8th, 9th, 10th, 11th and 12. Incredible. And they had kind of like an end of the year closing run, just an easy 5K through Boyle Heights. And my. One of my documentary film subjects was in it. So I was like, I'm going to run with you, you guys. And we got to do it together. And they closed down the new 6th Street Bridge and we got to run over the 6th Street Bridge and the LA river. And it was really, actually kind of cool. And my friend Amanda, who's a real Northern Californian, she was like, what is this strange feeling? I've never felt it before. Is it affection for la? She couldn't figure it out. Yeah, my running buddy, she's funny. And yeah, so we both, like, had a good time. But then I had to keep shooting with Abel that day, so we were way out of town and I. I couldn't get back to my home on the other side of town. And this is how spread out LA is. I couldn't get back home in time to shower and then drive back in order to continue the documentary shoot. So I got a hotel room for the morning in Pasadena just to shower because that's how spread out LA is. And I had some extra Marriott points, so obviously I didn't want to spend money on it, but I spent points on it. I showered and then continued the day because they had an end of the season banquet which was supposed to be outside and yesterday was very cold and rainy. And so we got rained on for a few hours after running the 5K. And then there was an outdoor book event where I met your friend Zan. Yesterday we did a charity book event.
Noah Michaelson
Friend and former Forever 35 guest, Zan Romanoff.
Raj Panjabi
Zan Romanoff. Yeah. I was really excited to meet her.
Noah Michaelson
Amazing writer.
Raj Panjabi
She was signing copies of Big fan, Her book that I've already recommended in our pop culture recs episodes last summer. And, yeah, by the time I got back home last night. Oh, and then we have dinner. We had to go out to dinner with Rob and his mom last night that was previously scheduled. So by the time we were at dinner, even I couldn't form words. It was just like, no cognition. And I had actually asked Rob before we went to dinner. I was like, please don't ask me any questions or make me speak. I cannot speak. And I was just so tired. And then, of course, we get there and he forgets, and he's like, oh, so, Elise, you're working on a new thing lately? And I'm like, nope.
Noah Michaelson
Oh, God.
Raj Panjabi
I'm somewhat recovered now. Anyway, you catch me up. Tell me about what you've been up to.
Noah Michaelson
Well, you know, we. We were supposed to have a sort of overstuffed Saturday with kids stuff. Henry was supposed to have soccer. Then we were gonna go to synagogue with one of his classmates. Then he was gonna go to a birthday party. But then Henry got sick Friday night. So Henry spent Saturday in front of the TV on the couch with a fever? Oh, no, not really. Any other symptoms except, like, a headache.
Raj Panjabi
Is he feeling better now?
Noah Michaelson
Yes, he is. He was feeling better Sunday. His fever was, like, a hundred. It wasn't like a. Like, he wasn't super sick, but he was sick enough that, like, I was not going to send him to a birthday party.
Raj Panjabi
Yeah, yeah.
Noah Michaelson
And then I had a werewolf party Saturday night. And if you're not familiar with werewolf, it's basically traitors. So there's werewolves and villagers instead of traitors and faithfuls. And someone plays the role of Alan Cumming, the mayor, and kind of is like the ringleader of the whole thing. And it was with a group of moms that I'm like, part of a big mom Facebook group, and we go on an annual retreat.
Raj Panjabi
Oh, that's right.
Noah Michaelson
And we always play a big game of werewol. And so someone. One of the. One of the women was like, let's have a werewolf party. Because it's like, it's kind of halfway through the year. Yeah, like, when we usually have the retreat. So it was really nice. It was really nice to see all these women who I don't see on, like, a regular basis. Yeah, it was super fun. It was really, really fun.
Raj Panjabi
Sounds rad. Yeah.
Noah Michaelson
Yeah. So good. And then, yeah, then Sunday, Henry was feeling well enough to go to his baseball game, so we did that. And then I taught mahjong on Sunday night. So, yeah, it was a good. It was a nice weekend.
Raj Panjabi
Good. I'm glad that you got to play werewolf. Maybe if whenever you do feel like doing some sort of party, you should be. You should be the mayor. Like, you should run a werewolf game with all your people.
Noah Michaelson
Wait, why? Why me?
Raj Panjabi
Because you love it. Like, you could be the coming of a thing.
Noah Michaelson
But it's fun to play, you know?
Raj Panjabi
Yep.
Noah Michaelson
It's fun to play the girl.
Raj Panjabi
All my. All my kids have really enjoyed playing werewolf or mafia, however you want to, whichever iteration that you want to call it. And they do it like, you know, when they do summer day camps and things like that, but I always find it so confusing. And then I don't know if they're doing the rules like they're playing by the rules correctly or giving them. Giving away things too early.
Noah Michaelson
That's so funny. Well, Elise, let's take a little break before. But before we do that, I. I would love to be getting more. More communications from listeners. You can call or text us at 781-591-0390. All right, we are back and we have a voicemail.
Dory Shafrier
Hey Elise and Dory, I'm calling with a product reference. This is my first ever call in for a product reference. I wanted to recommend the Wonder Skin Wonder Blading lip color kit. I was very skeptical of this but intrigued because it's a one of those peel off all day lip colors that I feel like is very TikTok trendy right now. But I was intrigued because I work a busy job in politics and so I like to look nice for work but I don't need to be putting lipstick on over and over again. And I tried it and it is amazing. I tried specifically the Adore color and it's really easy to put on. It looks gorgeous. I just did like two layers of it and then you spray on the stuff on top of it and then you wipe it off and the color did it faded by the end of the day but it stayed pretty much on all day long and I just feel like it looks really natural and I got the lip oil to put on top of it to make it a little shiny in the morning and then kind of just let that wear off within the spring. Color still stays on so I love it. I'm curious if anyone else has tried it and likes it and what other colors look Natural. And I also love that on their website they show the colors on lots of different skin tones so that you can see what it looks like and would look like on you. Okay, thanks so much. Bye.
Raj Panjabi
I like this because I have never. I've also been skeptical of this TikTok trend of these. Essentially, they're like lip masks. So this is the Wonder Skin. So folks who missed the voicemail, it's the Wonder Skin Wonder Blading Peel and Reveal Lip stain kit. So it's like a lip mask and then you remove the mask and the stain stays all day or should. And it comes in many, many colors. There's people demoing this on the old socials if you haven't seen them yet. But wow. We have a glowing from one of our listeners.
Noah Michaelson
Glowing.
Raj Panjabi
Yes. All right.
Noah Michaelson
Absolutely glowing.
Raj Panjabi
So any other Wonder Skin Peel and Reveal users out there, call in and let us know what your. What your experience has been or if you have any similar recs.
Noah Michaelson
Okay, thank you for that. We have another voicemail.
Dory Shafrier
This messages for Dory. This is about the Maelovs Glowmaker Vitamin C serum. I just want to let you know that a long time ago you guys did an interview with Chemist Confessions. They're two skin care chemists, Gloria and Victoria, and it introduced me to them in their world and now I am such big fans of them. About their book, I use their product line, they have face wash, this amazing kind of like aquifer like concoction called Balm Voyage. Anyway, and they have a podcast and a while ago they had a podcast on. It's worth looking back in their history about Dupes CE Ferulic SkinCeuticals, the OG one. As you know, Dory, the patent expired. So that's why you see a lot of dupes now. And they, they tested these dupes with an oven and using some sort of, I don't know, formal way. And may love actually came to the top as one of the best ones. And also to the listener, it cannot be an in a pump, a true vitamin C because it oxidizes. So it needs that little bubble to be able to kind of expand. Yeah, I wouldn't trust vitamin C in a pump in a million years. So anyway, I think the chemistry of skincare is super cool and it's not something I was exposed to or knew a lot about until I heard them on Forever 35 and now I know tons about it. So anyway, I love, I love, love, love that made love so happy about the price of it. All right, thanks. Bye bye.
Raj Panjabi
Amazing. Yeah. There is so much chemistry involved, the temperature that things need to be. To be the most like to stay most potent and all this. Fascinating.
Noah Michaelson
I'm trying to remember where I read this thing about the pump, because that was definitely something that was, like, in my head. So where did I get that from?
Raj Panjabi
No idea.
Noah Michaelson
I don't know. I will report back. I will try to find this.
Raj Panjabi
Okay.
Noah Michaelson
But, yes, I'm glad that my love sort of, like, came out on top. It is really good, and it is substantially cheaper than the skinceuticals. Like, insanely. Okay. We also got a text that said, hi, y'all. I'm wondering if you or any listeners might have a dupe recommendation for a discontinued product conundrum. My husband loves the Tom Ford for Men bronzer. It's a thin liquid formula. TF has discontinued its men's line, so my husband has been rationing it, but it's finally almost at the end of the tube. I'm wondering what might be a good replacement. I've seen that Elf has one that has been cited as a dupe, and I always love their prod. So think it may be a good option, but would love to hear any other suggestions.
Raj Panjabi
I don't know any off the top of my head, but this is exactly the kind of question to bring to our crowd. So call in, write in, text us, let us know. Have you tried the Elf dupe for Tom Ford for Men Bronzer? And do you like it? If that one suffices. And if not, are there other potential dupes for the Tom Ford for Men bronzer to help with this listener's husband's product conundrum?
Noah Michaelson
So this is very funny. I'm watching an Instagram video where someone had this exact conundrum, and their. Their recommendation was the Elf bronzing gel. These are gels, but, like, they. They refer to them as gels, by the way.
Raj Panjabi
Okay.
Noah Michaelson
Or bronzing drops. Elf bronzing drops. But the Tom Ford was a bronzing gel.
Raj Panjabi
Got it.
Noah Michaelson
But what this. What this person is putting on their hand, the Elf, I mean, this is. This is foundation. Like, am I crazy?
Raj Panjabi
This is.
Noah Michaelson
This is like just foundation. I know that they're calling it bronzing gel, but it really. It looks like foundation.
Raj Panjabi
Well, I sure hope it has sunscreen in it. So long it. So long as it has SPF in it, I'm down.
Noah Michaelson
I don't. I don't think it. I don't think it does, but I.
Raj Panjabi
Which prompts me then to ask if it doesn't have sunscreen in it. Why not? Why not?
Noah Michaelson
Well, and also, like, why not use. So. So ELF refers to it as a tinted serum.
Raj Panjabi
Hmm.
Noah Michaelson
But it does not have SPF in it. I believe that it is meant to be layered. Like they say, mix with your favorite moisturizer.
Raj Panjabi
I see.
Noah Michaelson
I mean, what about just a tinted moisturizer?
Raj Panjabi
Okay, Yep, yep.
Noah Michaelson
I'm just gonna throw that out there. But I would love to hear if other. If other listeners have any specific suggestions for this dupe conundrum.
Raj Panjabi
A dupe dilemma.
Noah Michaelson
Dupe dilemma. Duplemma. All right, we are going to take another short break and we will be right back with some podcast recommendations.
Raj Panjabi
Oh yeah, stick with us.
Noah Michaelson
All right, we are back and we had a request recently for some podcasts that were sort of similar in vibe to Forever 35. I think the, the listener wanted like chatty conversational pods with hosts that had like a rapport. And we had some suggestions. Listeners had some more suggestions. So here we go with a voicemail with some suggestions.
Dory Shafrier
Hello, Dory and Elise, this is Emma from Chicago. I am calling with some podcast recommendations for the listener who called in on Minneap441. And the podcast I recommend for her and other Forever 35 listeners that you didn't already mention are Culture Study by Anne Helen Peterson. She has great guests and covers all types of topics in pop cultures, in pop culture. She's super smart and interesting. Vibe check with your friend Sam Sanders, Saeed Jones and Zach Stafford, all three brilliant people and always covering interesting topics in news and culture. And the last is Be There in Five by Kate Kennedy, another brilliant person, writer, pop culture expert who does long form podcasts on her own and also with guests. Those are in my rotation and highly recommendations for the listener and others. Bye.
Raj Panjabi
Love those. I should, I mean, it should have been obvious that I, I am a frequent listener of Vibe Check. And Sam is one of my besties. And that show is so good. They're so good on like news topics too. Like I'm going back to, I'm thinking about like the Columbia University protests and Saeed was really good, like right after. Right after all of that was really exploding. It's ostensibly a pop culture podcast, but they also talk about whatever's really in the headlines also. And they've had some really fun conversations about. We had Stacey Abrams on this week and she talks about, if you haven't listened to it, she talks about how much she loves television and one of the shows that she really loves is Spoiler Alert. If you haven't Heard this episode, Reacher, Reacher, the series on, I think Amazon prime and Saeed Jones on Vibe check. Huge Reacher fan also. And so it's like a running in. It's a running joke about how he needs to, like, get off the pod so he can go watch Reacher. So that's what made me think of it.
Noah Michaelson
I mean, look, I. I'm. I think I might start watching Reacher. It actually does sound like something I would enjoy. Because, honestly, except for, like, the Pit, as we've discussed, I'm a little nervous about the gore. But, like, several of the other shows she mentioned are shows I've really liked. Like the Diplomat, like, I like, you know, and these are basically the books she writes too. Like, I kind of like this whole vibe. So, you know, so I think I. I think I might get into Reacher. You heard it here first. Yeah. I've known Saeed forever because he worked at Buzzfeed.
Raj Panjabi
Yeah, that's right. That's right. He's such a character.
Noah Michaelson
He is such a character. Okay, so we got another text with some products. This listener also recommends vibe check with former guest Sam Sanders. Bad on Paper, which is another. I think we've had at least one of their hosts on the show. That's also a great pod. Be There in five. Oh, my God. I can't believe we forgot about be there in 5K. Kennedy is just. I love her so much. She's just such a genius. And she does have guests on, but she also spends a very substantial portion of the show just monologuing.
Raj Panjabi
Yeah, she's amazing.
Noah Michaelson
Few people that can do that. That is very hard. That is very, very, extremely hard to monologue, interestingly.
Raj Panjabi
Right, Right.
Noah Michaelson
For like an hour, like, longer. I mean, it's truly. It's unbelievable. And I just love her take on things and her deep dives, and she's just so wonderful. Normal Gossip and who Weekly. Who Weekly. Such a classic. Yeah.
Raj Panjabi
Yep.
Noah Michaelson
It's so funny. We've had all. We've had Kate on. We had Kelsey on from Normal Gossip, and we've had Lindsay on from who Weekly. So we've had. We've had a lot of. We've had all these hosts on. That's fun.
Raj Panjabi
Yeah. Yeah.
Noah Michaelson
All right, well, listeners, if you. Yes. If you have more podcast re, let us know. I also loved that we got some product reqs and a product question this week. So if you have more product wrecks, get at us.
Raj Panjabi
Keep them coming, Elise.
Noah Michaelson
Also, just quickly, before we go, I was going to talk about my dermatologist appointment this morning. Where I got an update on my hair and we didn't really have time. So I think I'm going to save it for the casual chat on Friday, so.
Raj Panjabi
Okay, good. Casual chat. Come out on Friday. Yes, if you are subscribed to our Patreon, we can. You can get the update first.
Noah Michaelson
You can get the scoop on my hair. All right, we will talk to you all soon. Bye.

Elise I gave an aura frame to my parents so they could just like stay up on all the grandkids. And you know the first thing I did when I got back from DC was I put all the photos from our trip onto our aura frame and my parents aura frame.
Raj Panjabi
Oh, that's so sweet.
Noah Michaelson
I know. So they could see it. And then Henry loves to watch all the photos on our aura frame. So it's just like the best.
