A
From the beautiful Missouri Ozarks, greetings and welcome to the Gilbert House fellowship for Sunday, May 24, 2026. I'm Derek Gilbert.
B
Hi, I'm Sharon Gilbert. And welcome to our home. Everyone. We are blessed to have you join us. You, you know, this virtual congregation that we formed over the last, what, 14 years or so is so precious. Not because, look, this isn't about elevating us at all. This is about lifting up Christ and showing he is in the entire Bible.
A
Amen. Amen. From Genesis to Revelation, it is, it's history because it's his story.
B
That cross is at the center of time and space.
A
Yes. And speaking of time and space, today is the day that we in the Christian church celebrate Pentecost. Our Jewish brothers and sisters are celebrating Shavuot. And so it is a, I think an important Sunday because really this was the day the Holy Spirit descended upon the followers of Jesus as he promised. And so rather than our regularly scheduled readings today. Yes. Our regularly scheduled program will return next Sunday.
B
Actually, next Sunday we're going to be studying the book of first Enoch.
A
That's correct. So instead of getting back to the book of Isaiah, which we had looked, which would have been on the schedule today, we're going to do some other readings as we're going to focus on Pentecost, what it's about, how it connects to the giving of the law. Because that was the day that Pentecost was celebrated 50 days after.
B
After Passover.
A
After Passover. And Pentecost is just the Greek. Derives from The Greek meaning 50 days, basically.
B
Exactly.
A
So Sharon suggested this during the week. And as with all the good ideas that come from our house, this was another one of hers. And I think that was a really good one because as we started digging into it, like, I don't think we've done this before in the.
B
No, I don't think we have.
A
11 years that we've been doing this. 11 and a half years now.
B
Yeah, I think I said 14 years. But it's been a while since 2014. 2014. That's why. 14, boy howdy. 2014 was the Western Africa, West Africa Ebola outbreak. And now we have a sub Saharan Africa Ebola outbreak. Outbreak. It's where it normally breaks out, but this is an unusual strain. So I will just say as we pray this morning and as you pray, please remember not only the people living in those areas. And it's now been expanded to a 10 country ring that by the CDC Africa. Taking a look at cautionary. If you travel from one country to another. In fact, many of those countries are starting to close their borders. So pray for all the missionaries as well, because we have family members and friends who minister in Africa and many of you do as well. So let's keep them in our prayers that they are free from any contamination, that they continue to lift up Christ in those areas, trusting in him, him for protection. But also whatever issues they have to face regarding returning to the US or to other countries that they're able to get in without having to isolate forever. It's a 21 day incubation period. But also there are those. And I've got a family member who, she and her team are trying to cancel their flights.
A
Right.
B
Or reschedule them. And sometimes there's a fee. So one could pray, and I pray that this is true, that the airlines will say, okay, not your fault, that you have to reschedule.
A
Yeah.
B
And they're probably rescheduling a lot of people because of this. So, yeah, pray, pray that that all works out.
A
Yeah. And this is, this is a disease that is really requires paying close attention to. We now know that looking back, you know, six years to COVID 19, and the outbreak in 2020 and all the panic and, you know, the social distancing and the lockdowns and all that was a gross overreaction. It was disease that was essentially like a bad case of flu.
B
Yeah. And I don't anticipate that at all as a reaction to that. In the United States, only if you've traveled there or if you've been exposed to someone who is a patient already, it. You have to be exposed to bodily fluids. That generally doesn't mean that someone coughing on you will spread it because it doesn't infect the lungs the way Covet did.
A
Right.
B
This is not a respiratory illness.
A
No. But the, the infection fatality rate for those who do contract it is very high. Upwards of a third of the people who contract it will. Will expire.
B
Yeah. I've seen as much as 40%. The current rate death rate amongst those who have been confirmed is about 20%.
A
Right.
B
So that's good.
A
That's actually really good for Ebola. That's very, very good.
B
Yeah. It means that they're getting treatment very quickly.
A
Yeah. Covid, by contrast, 0.2%.
B
Yeah, I know.
A
Yes. Not much. There's no comparison between the two. So when you may see some pushback on social media that this is manufactured. Manufactured hype or manufactured panic. Yeah. Okay. It's not as easily spread as Covid, but for Those who do contract it, it is very often deadly.
B
It is a terrible illness. And the reaction in some areas, in fact, the reaction in Congo, there are those who are starting to burn down the isolation tents with patients inside.
A
Yes. It is traditional there in Africa for the family members then to prepare the bodies of the deceased for burial. And that's when they come into contact with bodily fluids, which then leads to the disease spreading. In the most recent case that I read about where the medical tents were burned down, 18 suspected patients escaped into the local population because they were running away from the fire.
B
Of course you would.
A
And they perhaps can be then spreading it to other people in the area. So hence the decision by the medical authorities, health authorities in Africa to extend sort of that ring of the ring fence, if you will, around the countries Congo and Uganda to 10 nations now. And so we will include those people and any missionaries.
B
Yeah. Many of you actually may know it's my niece Liz, who has been going to Uganda and she's trying to get those. She and her team are trying to get those flights canceled. So pray for Liz.
A
Right. And a new friend of ours, Troy Brewer.
B
Yes.
A
Was getting ready to travel there and I don't know because I just saw a video that he posted to Facebook a couple of days ago about the new travel advisories being put out there by the U.S. state Department and just praying for protection. As of that recording, which again is several days ago, he was still planning to go, but I don't know if those plans have changed.
B
Joy has a nice big team, and I think they were going to church plant, weren't they?
A
Actually planting a school.
B
Oh, a school. Oh, that's even better.
A
Right?
B
I mean, I love churches. You got to have a church, but you also need to educate.
A
Yeah, yeah. To help children in those areas, especially if they're going to get going to get a Christian education. That's a really wonderful thing. Troy's ministry in general, with what they do at rescuing children who are being trafficked in other parts of the world is, you know, it resonates with us because the reason we came to the Ozarks in the first place was to partner with Skywatch TV in the mission to fund Whispering Ponies Ranch, a facility available for ministries like used to be Royal Family Kids. Now it's for the children.
B
Right.
A
Working with children in foster care to give them an experience where they see that adults, that there are adults who don't want anything from them and just want to love them and protect them. And so that is something that's near and dear to our hearts. So pray well. When we pray, we will lift them up and we will do that right now.
B
Okay?
A
For Father, thank you for bringing us together over your word. Lord, as we study your word today and see how the Holy Spirit first manifested and descended upon the early church, Lord, may we be open to the working and the leading of the Holy Spirit in our own lives. It's so difficult for us to move from the driver's seat to the passenger seat and let you. Let you steer. Speaking for myself, I know that I want to plan the destination and aim towards that destination. But so often, Father, the destination you have in mind for us is not the one that we think you want for us. And so we jump ahead of the parade only to find that the parade made a turn behind us and that we're wandering lost and alone because we didn't have the courage to let you lead. So, Father, we pray for that wisdom and that courage, knowing that when we are allowing you to steer to lead us, Father, then we are within your protection. And that sometimes, as the psalm tells us, you lead us through the valley of the shadow of death, but that even while there, you prepare a table for us in the presence of our enemies. And Lord, we just see this in the divine protection that you offer to those who have the courage to proclaim your word and share the hope that we have in you. In foreign lands, like Sharon's niece, Liz Troy Brewer. Many, many others throughout the centuries, Father, who have boldly gone where many of us are too timid to tread. But because of that, thousands, millions have been saved. And we know from your word that not even one lost sheep is returned to the flock. You, our shepherd, rejoice. The angels in heaven rejoice. So, Father, as this outbreak of this deadly disease continues to spread, Father, we pray for the protection of the medical personnel who not only have to contend with the disease, but with the fear of those in the towns and villages around them who no longer trust Western medicine and Western medical personnel. And this may extend to the missionaries who come to their communities. So, Father, we pray for the protection of those bold enough to answer your call. Lord, may we be bold in our witness in our own communities. So many of us, myself included, often too timid to speak about our faith with our families, our friends, our co workers, for fear of being ostracized or mocked. Help us to remember, Lord, it is not we whom they mock. It is you. May we be good representatives, ambassadors for you, our king. You know our everyday walk, Lord, and As we study today, Father, we pray for your spirit to grant us wisdom. May we learn what yout would have us know. And we ask this in Jesus name. Amen.
B
Amen. Amen.
A
Well, now I gotta clean out my eyes here so I can see, man. The older I get, the more emotional I get. And it's something my dad experienced as well.
B
There's nothing wrong with that, honey. No, nothing at all.
A
I think there's. I think a realization as we get older that life is more precious than we sort of take it for granted when we're in our teens and twenties, where we think we're eight foot tall and bulletproof, you know, and you get to a little older and it's like you realize the body's beginning to break down and say, this thing's not going to last forever. I better enjoy each day while I'm here.
B
That is so true.
A
Not to the point of. I mean, not hedonistically, but to make the most of the time before us, because each day is a gift. We wanted to read, of course, the story of Pentecost, where the descent of the Holy Spirit really hits the early church, but also to kind of back up and take a running start at it with Acts 1, because the story of the first Pentecost is in Acts, chapter two. But then we're going to back up from there to some verses in Ezekiel 36 that we think are really relevant.
B
Mm.
A
So we're going to dive in here. Acts, chapter one begins with Luke continuing his two volume set, dedicated to a person that no one has really been able to identify. And then we'll get down to it, get into it from there. Acts, chapter one, verse one in the first book. O Theophilus. I have dealt with all that Jesus began to do and teach until the day when he was taken up after he had given commands through the Holy Spirit to the apostles whom he had chosen.
B
Okay, stop. Theophilus.
A
Yeah, we looked this up. There's a very good entry in the anchor Yale Bible Dictionary, which is a wonderful resource. It is on a scholarly level with the Dictionary of Deities and Demons in the Bible. Scholars put it together, it's footnoted, with each entry having its own little bibliography. Theophilus is a name that means friend or beloved of God. And this is the only person to whom any of the New Testament writings were dedicated. Luke in his gospel and of course, here in Acts chapter one dedicated both of those books to Theophilus. Most scholars agree that Theophilus was a real person, because in that time, dedications in books referred to real persons, but who he is is still an open question. There are a number of different candidates. Could have been Theophilus, the brother in law of Caiaphas, who. Which is. Who is the high priest.
B
That would have been ironic.
A
Yes. And yes, it would have been ironic because Caiaphas was part of the group that sentenced Jesus to death. Theophilus, who was an Athenian official convicted of perjury by the Areopagus. The Areopagus is Mars Hill.
B
Interesting.
A
Theophilus of Antioch person I'm not familiar with. The proconsul Sergius Paulus who's mentioned in Acts chapter 13 where Paul encounters Paul and Barnabas encounter a magician named Elymas.
B
Yes.
A
Or Bar Jesus and Paul confronted him and was able to overcome the so called magic of Elymas. There was a fellow by the name of. We laughed about this because of the character played by Ian McNeese in the miniseries Rome, Lucius Junius Aeneas Gallio, who's mentioned in Acts chapter 18, was the proconsul of a region called Achaia. A C H A I A. But he was the brother in law of a famous Roman senator named Seneca. Oh, oh, the brother of Seneca. Not the brother in law. The brother.
B
Very well known. Seneca was very well. Did a lot of writing.
A
Yes. His writing preserved down to the present day. Right. Another candidate, Titus Flavius Clemens, who was the husband of Domitilla and the heir presumptive of Emperor Domitian in the late third century A.D. domitian was the one who imposed the. What's the word? The persecution of Domitian, which was prompted by. In fact, we wrote about this in Giants, Gods and Dragons. It was prompted by. No, no, I'm confusing Domitian with Diocletian.
B
Yeah, I was going to say that's
A
Diocletian, third century A.D. wait a minute, how does that fit with Luke writing in the first century?
B
But here's the thing. If you're sitting there thinking, well, how would Luke know these very important people? Luke was a physician. That means that he was highly educated, probably came from a family with a little bit of money. So a higher class of individual.
A
Yeah.
B
It's very likely he was in circles that where he did meet and possibly even treat these individuals.
A
Yeah, yeah. Domitian was the emperor between the years 81 and 96 AD.
B
That would have been a little late for this one.
A
A little late, yeah. But anyway, Titus Flavius Clemens.
B
Yeah. We also don't know when he wrote this.
A
May have been executed. That's True, There. There are.
B
It could have been written a decade or two later.
A
Yeah. But Titus Flavius Clemens may have been executed because he was interested in Christianity. Another candidate, Philo of Byblos, who was a Jewish writer in the first century ad. He and Josephus are the two main sources of information we have for the history of what happened in Judea during this period. Agrippa ii, who oversaw a trial with Felix of Paul. Remember Felix? I'm almost persuaded.
B
Yep.
A
Yeah. So, anyway, these are a number of different suggestions for the. The candidate of Theophilus, but the bottom line is nobody knows for sure. He was a real person, more than likely, but probably Theophilus being a pseudonym to protect his identity.
B
It's closely related etymologically to Philo.
A
Yeah, exactly. Philo would have been, you know, meaning just beloved. Yeah. So, anyway, very interesting that Luke was probably moving in some of these circles, or a circle where he could communicate directly with somebody like this. And it's possible that this Theophilus then helped spread the Gospel, because if he was that well known and that well connected, he may have been able to, you know, get copies made and have them distributed. So interesting. In the first book, O Theophilus, I've dealt with all that Jesus began to do and teach until the day when he was taken up. After he had given commands through the Holy Spirit to the apostles whom he had chosen, he presented himself alive to them. In other words, emphasizing he was resurrected
B
alive to them after.
A
Yes, after his suffering by many proofs appearing to them during 40 days. And speaking about the kingdom of God. And you made a really interesting point before we started recording, Daddy, that when you add the three days
B
prior to
A
the resurrection, he was in the tomb prior to the resurrection. So now we're talking that at this point, 43 days have passed since the Crucifixion. Right, Right. And while staying with him.
B
And 43 days had passed since the Passover.
A
Since the Passover. Very good. Meaning that Pentecost means would been one week after what he was describing. Right here.
B
Exactly.
A
And while staying with them, he ordered them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the promise of the Father, which he said, you heard from me. For John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now.
B
Now, I just want to point out that the Lord could have said, minute I'm gone, I'm going to send the comforter.
A
Yeah.
B
Why did he say tarry there? Because on day 50 is Shavuot, which means that all of the Jews in the many, many, many countries.
A
Right.
B
Would be in Jerusalem.
A
Would be in Jerusalem. Yes, exactly. So when they had come together, they asked him, I know. This almost makes me laugh. Lord, will you at this time restore the kingdom to Israel? Because they're thinking, still, he's going to kick out the evil Romans and restore the glory of the Kingdom of David and Solomon to Israel. They were looking for a geopolitical military leader. We have an unkillable leader now.
B
This is great. This is where the Batman meme, you know, slapping Robin comes in.
A
He said to them, he must have slapped his forehead and then said, it is not for you to know times or seasons that the Father has fixed by his own authority. But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you. And you will be my witnesses in. And notice here, starts in Jerusalem and spreads out. Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria and to the end of the earth.
B
Yep.
A
It's like spinning outward. Like spreading out words. Like ripples on a pond.
B
Exactly. You know, when I sang with Life Unlimited back in 1980, we recorded a number of cantatas for churches that David Clyde still had written and others. There was one called. Golly, what was the actual name of the cantata? What? I just think of one of the songs within it, the Comforter Has Come. And Sandy Patty was with us when we were recording that, when I think we did that in California, in la, and she had this just wailing, you know, bluesy gospel, wonderful addition to it. And. And I had the honor of doing a little bit of that with her. So. Man, I always think of that song when I get to this passage music, I'll tell you what, it will stick in your head.
A
Yes.
B
And come and comfort you. Especially good hymns.
A
And when he had said these things that they were looking on, he was lifted up and a cloud took him out of their sight.
B
And.
A
And while they were gazing into heaven as he went, behold, two men stood by them in white robes and said.
B
So. Two men. These are not humans. They look like men.
A
No. And this is a reminder that angels don't have wings. They. They. Well, some of them do.
B
Some of them do.
A
If you. Angel is just a really broad term, if you want to include the. The cherubim and the Caribbean, the Caravim and the Seraphim.
B
Yeah.
A
And the Ophanim.
B
But overall, angels are the ones that are sent by God. It means messenger.
A
Yeah, yeah. And like the two that went to visit Lot in Sodom, they just looked like men.
B
Right.
A
Hebrews, Chapter two. Some have entertained Angels unawares.
B
Or they look like Anatole Romanov. Yeah, it's red wings reference. So these two.
A
And while they were gazing into heaven, as he went, behold, two men stood by them in white robes and said, men of Galilee, why do you stand looking into heaven? This Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven will come in the same way as you saw him go into heaven.
B
So we find out in the next verse where this happened.
A
Yes. Then they returned to Jerusalem from the mount called Olivet, which is near Jerusalem. A Sabbath day journey away. In other words, the Mount of Olives.
B
Exactly. And also Sabbath day's journey. That's how far you can go on a Sabbath.
A
Right. Which is like 3/5 of a mile.
B
Yeah, not very far. So it is obvious that this is the Mount of Olives.
A
Right.
B
But it's possible he was taken up from Bethany.
A
Yes. And that is mentioned in the Gospel of Luke that it was from Bethany that he was caught up. So. And when they had entered, they went up to the upper room, which we visited, at least the traditional location of the upper room.
B
And archaeological investigations have found other things using lasers that seem to indicate that might actually be the location.
A
Yeah. Where they were staying. Peter and John and James and Andrew, Philip and Thomas, Bartholomew and Matthew. James the son of Alphaeus and Simon the Zealot, and Judas the son of James. Now, this is not Judas Iscariot, the other one.
B
Yeah, he's dead.
A
All these with one accord. These were the eleven remaining apostles. All these with one accord, were devoting themselves to prayer together with the women and Mary, the mother of Jesus and his brothers.
B
Yes. So there are men and women in this home, this house,
A
and where it says here, and his brothers, the Greek word there, Adelphi can mean brothers or brothers and sisters. So basically siblings, Jesus siblings were there in those days. Peter stood up among the brothers. The company of persons was in all about 120.
B
I know. I love that. Because when you and I took a
A
tour in there in 2023.
B
In 2023, we got 120 people in there.
A
Comfortably.
B
Very comfortably. We also got 120 people in the location of the real tomb.
A
The real tomb, yeah, yeah. And said brothers, the scripture had to be fulfilled, which the Holy Spirit spoke beforehand by the mouth of David, concerning Judas, who became a God to those arrest, a guide to those who arrested Jesus. For he was numbered among us and was allotted his share in this ministry. Now this man acquired a field with the reward of his wickedness. And falling headlong, he burst open in the middle. And all his bowels gushed out.
B
Okay. Judas Iscariot hanged himself.
A
Yeah.
B
And eventually the body and would rot and would fall forward. Net sense.
A
And it became known to all the inhabitants of Jerusalem, so that the field was called in their own language. And akaldama, that is field of blood, Freud is written in the book of Psalms, may his camp become desolate, and let there be no one to dwell in it, and let another take his office.
B
Which psalm is that?
A
Let me see. That is verse 20.
B
Usually there's a little footnote.
A
Psalm 69, 25.
B
Okay.
A
May there camp be a desolation. Let no one dwell in their tents. And then the replacement. Psalm 109.8 May his days be few. May another take his office. So one of the men who had accompanied us during all the time that the Lord Jesus went in and out among us, beginning from the baptism of John until the day when he was taken up from us, one of these men must become with us a witness to his resurrection. And they put forward two Joseph, called Bar Sabbas, son of Abbas, who was also called Justus, and Matthias. And they prayed and said, you, Lord, who know the hearts of all, show which one of these two you have chosen to take the place in this ministry and apostleship, from which Judas turned aside to go to his own place. And they cast lots for them, and the lot fell on Matthias, and he was numbered with the 11 apostles.
B
Okay, let me go forward here. Now, those of you who are my age, remember the gospel, the contemporary Christian gospel group act. The second chapter of Acts. It was two sisters and a brother. I think I'd have to look it up again, but boy howdy, great music.
A
Before my time.
B
Well, yeah, I know.
A
Sort of actually before my time, when I was paying attention.
B
Yeah, I was in the 70s, 70s and 80s. So now I'm starting in the second chapter of Acts. When the day of Pentecost arrived, they were all together in one place. So this is seven days after the Lord's ascension. They've been in there praying and, and waiting for a week. The anticipation that within a week is Shavuot. Okay, so this is actually Shavuot. Now they are celebrating Day 50. We should probably explain a bit about Shavuot, the original celebration of that, because it's the giving of the law. Fifty days after the first Passover. The giving of the law at Sinai.
A
Yeah, it marks the. The summer wheat harvest as well. But 50 days over Passover, which concludes the seven week counting of the Omer.
B
Omer is Just a grain of wheat.
A
Yeah. It was one of the three pilgrimage festivals that required travel to the temple. And again, it.
B
It's also, I think, the only one of those with a shifting date because it has to be pinned to the peg to the. The Passover.
A
Traditional observances in Judaism. Eating dairy foods like cheesecake, blintzes and quiches.
B
Oh, I know. Oh, we need a cheesecake.
A
What a sacrifice.
B
I know. We have some cheese, though. You had a cheese omelet.
A
Yes. This is done for several reasons, including the tradition that when the Israelites received the Torah, they immediately learned kosher dietary laws. Because until they received law to this point, nobody knew what kosher was.
B
Well, exactly, because there was no law. This is received on Mount Sinai, written on tablets of stone. And that's important because Derek's going to read a verse in a few minutes that mentions that. So Mount Sinai, that was a burning mountain.
A
Yeah.
B
There was fire involved in this. And the giving of the law on tablets of stone.
A
Right, right. Now we, we've said before, and we're not going to argue with anyone about this. We, we believe this actually took place at Petra. The location would be above what's called the treasury, which is not actually a treasury, but that's the name that has been given.
B
It's just that well known building.
A
Right. The one in the Indiana Jones movie where they went inside to get the Holy Grail. Not really a thing around me. Yeah.
B
Go away.
A
Bothering me the other day. Oh, I'm glad he's over on your side.
B
Yeah.
A
So that area up there does have a burnt appearance. And there is an ancient sacred site with a couple of pillars that represent horns, something.
B
Yes. Yeah, could be.
A
Yeah. So that may be the location. Yes. I know that there are good friends of ours who argue for the site in Saudi Arabia. Jabel al laws. You know, again, we're not going to divide over that.
B
No, but. But the point is it was on Mount Sinai, wherever that is, wherever that was, and that this was a fire event. And writing the law, giving of instructions, you might say.
A
Right. So the fire descended, you know, again, the fire. Correct. The burning mountain. And the connection then to the fire descending on the. The. The disciples and the apostles.
B
Do you want to go ahead and read that verse from Ezekiel? I think.
A
No, I'd rather do it after we get through this.
B
All right.
A
I think it fits better.
B
All right. And suddenly there came from heaven a sound like a mighty rushing wind. And it filled the entire house where they were sitting. Now understand, remember, there are a lot of people in Jerusalem right now milling around possibly nearby.
A
One of the three big festivals, Passover and Feast of Tabernacles, Sukkot being the other one.
B
And divided tongues of. As a fire appeared to them and rested on each one of them. There are 120 people in there, and this is a big deal. And they were all men and women, all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit gave them utterance. Yeah, I'd say they're probably speaking in other languages, other known languages.
A
Right. Speak in other tongues. They were not speaking private languages that no one could interpret.
B
We do believe in private languages. Yeah. Because it's.
A
Paul talks about gift of the Holy Spirit.
B
You have to have someone there to interpret if it happens. Yes, the next verse, verse 5. Now, there was dwelling in Jerusalem, Jews, devout men from every nation under heaven. Now, that means every tribe, which is interesting. Yeah, Every ethnic, but they're Jewish, so they. They live in some of the surrounding areas. Other countries.
A
There have been communities scattered from North Africa to Persia ever since the 6th century BC Jews have been carried off by the Assyrians in the seventh century.
B
Right. And not all century BC got to come home or chose to come home. Right. And at the sound, the multitude came together. So again, I remind you, they're in the streets and they hear something rumbling
A
in this building and this mighty rushing wind. Yes, interesting. By the way, the word for wind there is noe, which is similar to the word for spirit. Pneuma. Yeah, a little word play there.
B
And at. Yes, exactly. At. At this sound, the multitude came together and they were bewildered because each one was hearing them speak in his own language. And they were amazed and astonished, saying, are not all these who are speaking? Who are speaking Galileans? In other words, they have their own language, which I don't know. I recognize it, but I don't speak it. And how is it that we hear each of us in his own language? Parthians and Medes and Elamites and residents of Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia, Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of Libya belonging to Cyrene. And visitors from Rome, both Jews and Proselytes, Cretans and Arabians. We hear them telling in our own tongues the mighty works of God.
A
Yeah, they basically did a circle all the way around the known world. Parthians means Elamites. In the east, what is Persia, Cappadocia, central Turkey, Pontus, the northern coast of Turkey on the Black Sea, Asia, Phrygia also the west coast of Turkey, Pamphylia, likewise east Egypt, parts of Cyrene, which is North Africa. So basically did a whole circle counterclockwise.
B
And what's interesting about that is, prophetically speaking, these are the nations that will come against Israel.
A
Yeah.
B
So right now, they're being given a great opportunity to know truth. But others mocking, said, they're filled with new wine. Okay, if they're drunk, why are they talking in your languages?
A
Verse 12. And all were amazed and perplexed.
B
Yes, I know. Oh, sorry, I missed it. And all were amazed and perplexed and say, saying to one another, what does this mean? But others mocking, said, they're filled with new wine.
A
And then Peter stands, oh, if only
B
Michael would stand up. Michael's watching this from his seat of position. But Peter, standing with the 11, lifted up his voice and addressed them. Men of Judea and all who dwell in Jerusalem, let this be known to you and give ear to my words. For these people are not drunk as you suppose, since it is only the third hour of the day. That would be about 9am 9am yes, but this is what was uttered through
A
the prophet Joel, starting at Joel 22, Joel 2, beginning at verse 28.
B
And in those and in the last days it shall be God declares that I will pour out my spirit on all flesh. And your sons and and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams even on my male servants and female servants. In those days I will pour out my spirit and they shall prophesy, and I will show wonders in the heavens above and signs on the earth below, blood, fire and vapor of smoke. The sun shall be turned to darkness and the moon to blood. Before the day of the Lord comes the great and magnificent day, and it shall come to pass that everyone who calls upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.
A
Peter quoting Joel's apocalyptic prophecy, the last, the last days, which was partially fulfilled here.
B
Partially. But there is a full fulfillment, an entire fulfillment yet to come. So verse 22. Men of Israel, hear these words. Jesus of Nazareth, a man attested to you by God with mighty works and wonders and signs that God did through him in your midst. As you yourselves know this Jesus delivered up according to the definite plan and foreknowledge of God. You crucified and killed by the hands of lawless men. God raised him up, loosing the pangs of death, because it was not possible for him to be held by it was not possible for him to stay dead. Don't you love that?
A
Yeah.
B
For David says concerning him, I saw the Lord always before me, for he is at my right hand, that I may not be shaken. Therefore my heart was glad and my tongue rejoiced. My flesh also will dwell in hope, for you will not abandon my soul to Hades or let your Holy One see corruption.
A
This is Psalm 16, verses 8 through 11. And the fact that David said, you will not abandon my soul to Sheol, which was not in the Old Testament conception, a place of punishment. It's just where. That's where all the dead went. But David, it was revealed to him, you're not going to abandon me there, right? You're going to pull me out.
B
Exactly. For you will not abandon my soul to Hades or let your Holy One see corruption. You have made known to me the paths of life. You will make me full of gladness with your presence. Brothers, I may say to you with confidence about the patriarch David that he both died and was buried, and his tomb is with us to this day. Now you, if you go into the upper room building, it's also the tomb of David, right?
A
Yeah.
B
That's not coincidence. Being therefore a prophet, and knowing that God has sworn, had sworn with an oath to him that he would set one of his descendants on his throne, he foresaw and spoke about the resurrection of the Christ, the Holy One, that he was not abandoned to Hades, nor did his flesh see corruption. This Jesus God raised up, and of that we are all witnesses. Being therefore exalted at the right hand of God, and having received from the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit, he has poured out this that you yourselves are seeing and hearing. For David did not ascend into the heavens, but he himself says, the Lord said to my Lord, sit at my right hand until I make your enemies your footstool.
A
Yeah. The Psalm 110, verse one day. In fact, Jesus used that in Luke 20, verse 42, to confound those who were confronting him. So how can the Lord say to my Lord, if David is.
B
Yeah.
A
And Jesus applied that verse to himself.
B
He told them over and over again who he was. Verse 36. Let all the house of Israel therefore know for certain that God has made him both Lord and Christ. This Jesus Christ, whom you crucified. Now, when they heard this, they were cut to the heart and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, brothers, what shall we do? And Peter said to them, repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ, for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will Receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. For the promise is for you and for your children and for all who are follow far off everyone whom the Lord our God calls to himself. And with many other words he bore witness. And continue, continued to exhort them, saying, save yourselves with from this crooked generation. So those who received his word were baptized. And there were added that day about 3,000 souls. Boom. Number is that matters.
A
This is interesting, because as we were looking back at the first Pentecost, the giving of the law on Mount Sinai, we go back to Exodus, chapter 32. And Exodus and Exodus records how Moses went down from the mountain with the two tablets of the testimony in his hand. Tablets that were written on both sides, on the front and on the back, they were written tablets of stone. The tablets were the work of God, and the writing was the writing of God engraved on the tablets. When Joshua heard the noise of the people as they shouted, he said to Moses, there is a noise of war in the camp. But he said, it is not the sound of a noise shouting for victory or the sound of the cry of defeat, but the sound of singing that I hear. And as soon as he came near the camp and saw the calf, the golden calf and the dancing Moses, anger burned hot. And he threw the tablets out of his hands and broke them at the foot of the mountain. He took the calf that they had made and burned it with fire and ground it to powder and scattered it on the water and made the people of Israel drink it. And Moses said to Aaron, what did this people do to you that you have brought such a great sin upon them? And Aaron said, let not the anger of my Lord burn hot. You know the people that they are set on evil. For they said to me, make us gods who shall go before us. As for this Moses, the man who brought us up out of the land of Egypt, we do not know what has become of him. So I said to them, let any who have gold take it off. So they gave it to me, and I threw it into the fire, and out came this calf.
B
Yeah, it's like, Aaron, we need another slap meme.
A
So when we read this back in 2014, we're like, you know, when Nicole was six, she could have come up with a better excuse than that.
B
Yeah, the dog ate my homework.
A
Yeah. And when Moses saw that the people had broken loose, for Aaron had let them break loose to the derision of their enemies, then Moses stood in the gate of the camp and said, who is on Yahweh's side? Come to me and all the sons of Levi gathered around him, verse 27. And he said to them, thus says Yahweh, God of Israel, put your sword on your side, each of you, and go to and fro from gate to gate throughout the camp, and each of you kill his brother and his companion and his neighbor. And the sons of Levi did, according to the word of Moses. And that day, about 3,000 men of the people of Israel fell. 3,000.
B
3,000 were not saved. They chose the wrong side.
A
And on the day of Pentecost, 3000 came to God and were saved. And were saved. Never noticed that before this morning.
B
I know. You and I were both old. Was that always in there?
A
Yeah, yeah.
B
Anytime you see a place mentioned, especially more than once, an action mentioned, who's doing it, who's the witness, and are there any numbers in there? Because those numbers are important.
A
Yeah.
B
And 3,000. Yeah, it's like the five months and 150 days.
A
Right? The number of days the ark was on the water and the amount of time given to Apollyon and his minions to torment those without the seal of God on their foreheads.
B
Yep, exactly.
A
Wow.
B
Wow, indeed. Well, 42 again. And they devoted themselves to the. Oh, sorry, I guess I haven't read it. And they devoted themselves to the apostles teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread. And the prayers and awe came upon every soul, and many wonders and signs were being done through the apostles. And all who believed were together and had all things in common. And they were selling their possessions and belongings and distributing the proceeds to all as any had need. And day by day, attending the temple together and breaking bread in their homes. They received their food with glad and generous hearts, praising God and having favor with all the people. And. And the Lord added to their number, day by day, those who were being saved.
A
Notice in verse 46 that it says, attending the temple together.
B
Yes.
A
I think there's a perception among Christians. I know there was with me, that the split between Jews and Christians occurred at the crucifixion, because, as you know, you see here in Peter saying, you killed him, you know, through the works of some lawless men. But it wasn't the case. It really wasn't until about a century later, the year 135A.D. 132 to 135 was the bar Kokva rebellion, where a military leader, Simon Barkosova, nicknamed Bar Kokva, Son of the Star, because Rabbi Akiva declared that he was the fulfillment of the prophecy. In numbers, chapter 24, I see a star rising From Jacob, who ruled nations with a rod of iron, declared him to be the Messiah. And until that point, for a century after the resurrection, Christians were still part of Jewish communal life. They were attending synagogue because by 70 AD, of course, the temple was destroyed, but they were still part of Jewish life. They were sort of like the weird cousins. Yeah, they follow this, you know, Jesus bar Joseph. But okay, they're pretty friendly and they share what they've got and stuff like that. So they were still part of the community. But after Bar Kokhba demanded that they serve in his army. And Rabbi Akiva, who is still respected as one of the greatest rabbis ever by Jews, said, no, you're not the Messiah, we were told when he would return, it would be in the clouds with great glory. And you're not. So Bar Kokva, according to later Christian writers, Luke Eusebius and Justin Martyr, had them mutilated, would cut off their thumbs so that, you know, they basically couldn't hold a sword. Couldn't hold a sword or eat properly. Yeah. I mean, it would even be difficult to hold utensils or work in the fields, whatever.
B
It's one of the big hallmarks of mankind is that we have opposition in our hands.
A
Right. That's one of the difficulties I have because of the muscle wasting in my hands because of cidp, I can't bring my thumb out to grab. And it's not an opposable thumb anymore.
B
Yep.
A
So anyway, that led to the split. And after the Jewish rebellion of 135 was put down and Jews were shipped off to the slave markets in Alexandria, depopulated the province of Judea, that led to real animosity and hatred between Jews and Christians. And when Constantine legalized Christianity in the 4th century, it got worse. So. So that's where that split finally came into play.
B
But also, we can say that the early Christians, some of them said, you have to become Jewish first. They were known as the Judaizers. And Paul stood up against that. He wrote letters saying, stop that.
A
Yeah, yeah. And early, you know, even some of the early church theologians like Justin Martyr, who tried to throw the Jews under the bus in the letters that he wrote to the Roman Senate defending Christianity, made a point of saying, you know, we're loyal citizens, we're loyal to the emperor, not like those pesky Jews over there. But they opposed the heresy of Marcion, who was a bishop in northern Pontus, which we mentioned earlier, which is in northern Turkey, who taught that the God of the Old Testament, Yahweh, was the Evil God. He was actually, you know, Satan. Jesus is not Yahweh. Yahweh was this evil, violent.
B
That's creeping back in God.
A
It's creeping back in the modern church. You know, we don't need the Old Testament. And maybe that God of the Old Testament's not Jesus anyway, because Jesus, you know, gentle Jesus, meek and mild.
B
No, I'm sorry, you've mistaken Jesus. That's not who he is. When he comes back, you're preaching a different one.
A
He'll be chewing bubblegum and he'll be out, all out of bubblegum.
B
He will be.
A
Yeah. We wanted to go Back to Ezekiel 36 after this, which is a section where God prophesies or tells through Ezekiel of a day when he would put his spirit inside the Jewish people.
B
Which is why I emphasized on Sinai that it was written on tablets of stone.
A
Stone, exactly. And this, I think, also relates to some claims today that the Israel reconstituted in 1948 is not, put this in air quotes, real Israel. It's not the actual Israel that God will reconstitute because that Israel will be righteous. In other words, when there's seems to be a belief that when God constitutes real Israel, they'll be Christians, and that's not what God says in Ezekiel 36, beginning at verse 22, therefore say to the house of Israel, thus says the Lord, Yahweh, it is not for your sake, O House of Israel, that I am about to act, but for the sake of my holy name which you have profaned among the nations to which you came. In other words, he's saying, you have not respected me, you have not followed my commandments, and I will vindicate the holiness of my great name which has been profaned among the nations and which you have profaned among them.
B
And by the way, he isn't discussing, he's not referring to his own reputation. Hashem. The name is another name for Messiah, for Yeshua.
A
In other words, it's a person.
B
It's a person.
A
And the nations will know that I am Yahweh, declares the Lord Yahweh, when through you I vindicate my holiness before their eyes. In other words, even though you don't deserve this, I'm going to show the nations who I am, and I am that I am exactly through you, even though you don't deserve it, I will take you from the nations and gather you from all the countries and bring you into your own land. I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you shall be Clean from all your uncleannesses and from all your idols. I will cleanse you and I will give you a new heart and a new spirit I will put within you and I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. And I will put my spirit within you and cause you to walk in my statutes and be careful to obey my rules. You shall dwell in the land that I gave to your fathers, and you shall be my people. And I will be your God. And I will deliver you from. From all your uncleannesses. And I will summon the grain and make it abundant, and let no famine or lay no famine upon you. I will make the fruit of the tree and the increase of the field abundant, that you may never again suffer the disgrace of famine among the nations. Just look at the way Israel has bloomed since 1948 from a desert land that had. Where the land had been allowed to go to waste from for 1400, 1600 years. It is green now. You look at the, the Jezreel Valley.
B
Oh my goodness.
A
The, the. The. The Hula Valley and how green and beautiful those are. Like, like the American Midwestern farms.
B
It's amazing.
A
But even in the south, where it's dry and you see the terraced hillsides with the olive groves, then you will remember your evil ways and your deeds that were not good, and you will loathe yourselves for your iniquities and your abominations. It is not for your sake that I will act, declares the Lord Yahweh. Let that be known to you. Be ashamed and confounded in your ways or for your ways, O house of Israel. Thus says the Lord Yahweh, on the day that I cleanse you from all your iniquities, I will cause the cities to be inhabited and the waste places shall be rebuilt, and the land that was desolate shall be tilled, instead of being the desolation that it was in the sight of all who passed by. And they will say, this land that was desolate has become like the Garden of Eden. And, and the waste and desolate and ruined cities are now fortified and inhabited. Then the nations that are left all around you shall know that I am Yahweh. I have rebuilt the ruined places and replanted that which was desolate. I am Yahweh, I have spoken and I will do it. Thus says the Lord Yahweh. This also I will let the house of Israel ask me to do for them to increase their people like a flock, like the flock for sacrifices, like the flock at Jerusalem during her appointed feasts, so shall the waste cities be filled with flocks of people. Then they will know that I am Yahweh.
B
This is not dependent upon any behavior from the house of Israel.
A
No.
B
This is a one way covenant.
A
Yes. And it's not because they deserve it. And those who say that they are still walking in unbelief. Yes, we know everybody needs Jesus. There is no exception to that rule. We pray for our friends and we have some dear, dear friends that we love in Israel for whom we pray every day.
B
Every day.
A
And I can only imagine, because we have messianic friends, how they must feel like Paul, that he would willingly have gone to destruction if it meant this, if it could have meant the salvation of his fellow Jews. Yes, but God does not impinge on our free will.
B
He does not. And here he promises to turn the hearts of stone, tablets of stone to hearts of flesh into hearts of flesh and writing his word upon those hearts
A
and putting his spirit inside them.
B
Yes. And that's exactly what happens when you become a believer.
A
Yes.
B
The comforter has come.
A
Yes. And when you start to see how all of these verses fit together and maybe I get a little emotional, having been to Israel now and made such good friends there, seeing the evil that was worked on those communities in the south by Hamas on October 7th and realizing that this is a real war that has consequences in the natural realm. 1200 people who lost their lives that day, 250 more who endured unspeakable torment at the hands of Hamas. Those who survived her. I mean, we remember that young lady that we saw at the rehabilitation center, the haunted look in her eyes.
B
Maya, I think was her name.
A
Yes. And the testimony that she later gave the Knesset about the abuse that they suffered. It was horrific. This is a supernatural war. And there are those in the fallen realm who are doing everything they can to tear the people of Israel, the Jews, away from God. Because if he can do that, they can do that. Then they can say, well, you Christians, this book that you follow is worthless. God's not powerful enough to fulfill his promises.
B
Each one of us is born on a battlefield. You and I say this a lot. In fact, the early days of PID radio, we. We emphasized that and we said, welcome to the battlefield. Your eyes are now opened once you realize we are all engaged in a spiritual warfare. And that was going on at the Mount Sinai. Spiritual warfare writ large.
A
Yep, yep.
B
And it continues to this day.
A
It does.
B
But we have the Holy Spirit we are never, ever, ever alone.
A
Amen.
B
Never. Not just the Holy Spirit, but many of God's warriors surround us, fighting off the opposition on our behalf. So often when we don't even know
A
it, so great a cloud of witnesses. And again, the older I get, I think the more I realize that the more this physical frame weakens. The more you realize you've been leaning on him all along.
B
Yes. Yes. And I believe that that's one of the reasons the Lord is allowing this in your life. And we'll. We'll talk more about that when we get to the OG report, which, if you want to listen to it, that's great. We appreciate that. But we don't require it in any way, shape or form because some people just want to move on. I get it. But is there anything else you wanted to say about today's.
A
No, I think it's just a reminder that. And you know, I will say this. Pentecost was always treated as sort of like a historical event in churches I grew up in which were very liturgical, high church sort of thing. The idea that the Holy Spirit would actually come and fill us now was not ever really taught. You know, it was sort of like, oh, well, that's what them Pentecostals believe. But there's nothing in the Bible that tells us that this doesn't happen today. Not all of us are gifted with speaking in tongues or the gift of prophecy, or dreaming dreams or the gift of healing, whatever. Every one of us has a different gifting. My gifting is being a nerd. And to that end, maybe sitting in a chair is beneficial to that. Your gift is don't envy the gifts of others just because they're different from yours.
B
Right.
A
Pray for the Holy Spirit to reveal to you what your gifting is. For some people, the gift is encouragement. For some, it's just making coffee on Sunday mornings.
B
Amen. That is such a contribution to the body of Christ. By the way, if you are wondering if you're playing the home game, I did find on YouTube, Jim Maya is one of the accounts that I follow because he posts music, Christian music, every day. And a few years back he posted the Comforter Has Come. And you'll see that it features. It's by Joe Parks by DTC David T. Clydesdale. Features Sandy Patty, Sharon Ferguson. That was my maiden name. Warren Hoffman and Steve Green.
A
Wow.
B
Yeah. Warren Hoffman was in Life Unlimited with
A
me, along with Send me that Lincoln. I'll put that link in the notes.
B
I certainly will.
A
So we will add that to the notes. Below this study, if you're interested in hearing Sharon with Sandy Patty back in the day. And a song very relevant to our our study today. So we will adjust the schedule accordingly. Next week we'll be back with a study. Enoch. Very good. And then we will resume with Isaiah who's been waiting patiently in the wings for his chance to come back now for a couple of weeks.
B
Just over there, you know, drinking coffee.
A
We got a few events to tell you about coming up here in the near future.
B
Coming up, faster than, than a speeding train.
A
We're two months out for our first conference, but coming up in early July, I've just added this to our calendar of upcoming events. The Christian symposium on UFOs and alien abductions.
B
That's going to be big and you can watch it live streamed.
A
That'll be on our YouTube channel, YouTube.comberthouse. so if you're not subscribed to the YouTube channel already, you probably want to do that and then hit the bell for notifications so that when we go live on the afternoon of July 2nd, which is a Thursday leading into the July 4th weekend, which is when the UFO Festival is always held in Roswell, you'll get a notice. This will be live streamed also on the Bruce Collins Show YouTube channel, another
B
channel you, you should subscribe to.
A
Yeah, Bruce is a good man we've been friends with for a long time, but we actually spoke for the first time ever just this past Thursday. We did a test for proof of concept to get this, the live stream out. This will be coming live from Roswell, New Mexico as Guy Malone and Joe Jordan and Jackie Elnor, whose late husband Bill was a researcher into the UFO phenomenon and also part of the team for the, the original Bible Answer Man, Walter.
B
I used to listen to that all the time.
A
Right.
B
In fact, I had a book by Walter Martin.
A
Yeah. Kingdom of the Cults. Jackie's been on view from the bunker a couple of times. She wrote a book some years back which we talked about the fleecing of Christianity. She and Guy and Joe will be answering questions and giving some presentations from a location there in Roswell. And God bless him, Guy has been making his living essentially is our missionary to Roswell for a couple of decades now. He was the organizer of the by now legendary Ancient of Days Bible UFO conferences which brought together people like Mike Heiser, Tom Horn, David Flynn and even secular guys like Richard Hoagland, Patrick Heron. The late Patrick Heron.
B
I know, it was incredible. And that's. We heard that we found it online back in the very early days of PID radio. That's why we reached out to those guys.
A
And Guy has been a guest on the program many times. Was going to try to get Guy and Joe on this weekend and we couldn't coordinate. But Joe was traveling back from the McMinnville, Oregon, Oregon UFO Festival last weekend where he dresses up as what he calls a nice agent, the non human Immigration and Customs Enforcement. And he's got this really great black outfit which is wonderful.
B
He and Joe are starting to look sort of like members of ZZ Top.
A
Yes, they have very Ozarkian beards. So they will be in Roswell. It's at the Monterey Shopping center in Roswell. If you need the address, go to the calendar either on our website Gilberthouse.org or go to the calendar of upcoming events inside our mobile app. And it even has a little map there so you can go to Apple Maps and guide you right in.
B
Yeah, it's pretty handy.
A
Yeah. But if you have a question that you would like asked and you can't be in Roswell, you can either submit it during the live stream because we'll have the live chat going on in the during the event or you can submit it to us in advance infoilberthouse.org, just email the question to infoilbert gilberthouse.org Excuse me. And we will then address those to the to the panel. We're still trying to figure out how we can get audio both ways, but I'm sure that we will figure it out between.
B
You should probably run one more test.
A
Oh yeah, Bruce and I are planning to do it. Then at the end of July we've got the go there for conference in Dayton. Well, just outside Brookville, Ohio. Dayton, Ohio? Yeah, Brookville. That's at the harvest revival center, July 24th and 25th. This is Dr. Mike Spalding's conference. Other speakers besides me. Sharon will be there, of course.
B
Yeah, I'm not speaking this time, but I will be there.
A
Yes. And driving me from the airport.
B
Exactly. Driver
A
Carl Gallups, John haller, Carl Tykrib, Dr. Greg Reed, Tom Hughes, Olivier Melnick. Just a wonderful lineup. And I know there'll be some other wonderful people there as well. Kenny C. Said he's going to be there to. Well, he better be because he's bringing us some new iron and myth.
B
I know, I know.
A
Book table so that will be July 24th and 25th. GotHereForConference.com is the website. If you can't be there in person, please sign up for the live stream. The production value of the media team there at the Harvest Revival center is excellent. So if you're watching at home, you're going to get a great experience. But be there with the body and if you can stay an extra day, you made a good point the other day.
B
Yes.
A
Stay for the worship service on Sunday morning because they are powerful.
B
Oh my goodness, it's Wonderful.
A
And then two weeks after that, the remnant rising 2.0 conference in Springfield, Missouri, the Oasis Convention Hotel and Convention Center. Wonderful gathering, a long lineup of speakers. Just touch on a few. Joe Artis Horn, host and CEO of Skywatch tv, Vicki Joy Anderson, who's going to be here in a few minutes.
B
Yeah, I know.
A
So we need to speed up because she's going to be using our barn as a set for a docu series documentary.
B
She's going to be. I'm so excited about that.
A
Yeah. Pastor Larry Ragland, who we just met at Skywatch tv, Kenny C. Will be there as one of the speakers. And praise and worship music from new for our new friends Gerard James and Sarah Weiss. And we are looking forward to seeing them again. Again, this is August 7th through 9th in Springfield, Missouri. The Oasis Hotel runs a shuttle to the Springfield Branson National Airport. So if you're flying in, that's great. If not, if you're coming in on i44, make sure to stop at the new Buc EE's. Everyone in Springfield's really excited about that.
B
Oh yeah.
A
Hear the watchmen dot com. But wait, there's more. Promo code Gilbert20 saves you $20 on in person registration.
B
You can use that $20 to go to Hertz Donut.
A
Yes.
B
Which is a. You got to go there.
A
Not far away. Yes, I'm down on the sunshine at national, right across from the Mercy Hospital that we have become very, very familiar with.
B
Yeah, it's a second home these days.
A
Yeah. Then Our Israel tour, October 11th through 23rd, that is it looks like this is a go as of this morning. As we record this on May 24, it looks like, like things may be returning to a sense of at least calm in the Middle East. We pray that that's true and that it lasts. Don't know if there's been anything new that's developed since last.
B
I'm looking to see if anything has been posted that is new. On X you see a lot. Or on Truth Social.
A
The dates are 11th through the 23rd with an optional three day extension to Jordan. If you go with us to Jordan, we'll take you to Petra, show you why where we think Mount Sinai was, and why we think it's not only historically, spiritually, but also prophetically significant. Yes.
B
19 minutes ago, as of right now, Benjamin Netanyahu said this. I spoke last night with President Donald Trump about the memorandum of understanding to reopen the Straits of Hormuz and the upcoming negotiations towards a final agreement on Iran's nuclear program. I expressed my deep appreciation to President Trump for his unwavering commitment to Israel's security, including during Operation Roaring lion and Epic Fury, when American and Israeli forces fought shoulder to shoulder against the Iranian threat. President Trump and I agreed that any final agreement with Iran must eliminate the nuclear danger.
A
Amen.
B
That means dismantling Iran's nuclear enrichment sites and removing its enriched nuclear material from its territory. President Trump also reaffirmed Israel's right to defend itself against threats on every front, including Lebanon. The partnership between us and our two countries has been proven on the battlefield and has never been stronger. My policy, like President Trump's, remains unchanged. Iran will not have nuclear weapons. That's pretty clear.
A
Yes. Yes. So thank you for. To Prime Minister Netanyahu for clarifying things. He's kind of making it clear where he stands. But I think President Trump likewise sees that Israel's security is very important. There's no question in my mind that President Trump is the most pro Israel president in American history.
B
He is indeed so.
A
Well, that being the case, our friends on the ground in Israel tell us that Israel is already welcoming tours back in. It is open for business and looking forward to welcoming tour groups. Christians. I mean, let's be honest, it's easy to kind of put things off and say, well, someday I'll get there. But as we've seen over the last few years, you never know what tomorrow may bring, where suddenly you wake up one morning, it's like, wait, they just did what?
B
Derek and I have been in Israel a number of times when the Western press made it seem like everything was blowing up in that country. And we would get text messages, are you guys okay? Are you okay? And it was totally fine.
A
And our reaction is like, what are you talking about?
B
Yes, exactly.
A
Well, they've closed the airports that the embassy's closed. No, that's not true.
B
We were there just a few months after October 7th with this solidarity tour. Six months or so after October 7th, it was just fine.
A
Yeah, you go through Tel Aviv and you see traffic in the streets. It's like, don't these people know there's a war going on? Yeah, well, they've been living with the threat of their neighbors since 1940, but
B
they know how to handle it. And I'll say again, if something happens prophetically, what better place to be?
A
Yeah. Hey, we're here. Prophecies unfolding. Yeah. So if you want information, including a list of some of the sites that we plan to see, including the Grotto of Pan at the base of Mount Hermon, Gilgal, Rafaim Bet? L, the Altar of Joshua, and of course, sites you want to see, like the Sea of Galilee. Yes. The Jordan river, the Temple Mount. That's all@gilberthouse.org travel gilberthouse.org travel by the
B
way, we recently received a link to a YouTube video from our good friend who's like a son to us, Sue Gant, who is in India. And he sent this link and it's, it's. He said it's like they. They are doing a documentary about your books.
A
Yeah. It was the connection between. And Jack the Ripper.
B
Yes, exactly.
A
Which you made explicit in the Red Wing saga. Was it? Book two, where the unboxing of the stone from.
B
Exactly.
A
Yeah.
B
Blood rights.
A
So, yeah, God bless him for catching that. That was really interesting and really well done too. Sir Charles Warren. Sort of the linchpin between the two.
B
I know. So we've gotten about, oh, a third of the way through watching the documentary on YouTube. It's really good.
A
I watched most of the rest.
B
Oh, did you? It's extremely well done. And Derek can also put a link to that if you are interested in it. And thank you again, Sugand, for sending us that link. Boy, oh boy.
A
Yeah, Good catch. Good catch. So again, all of our upcoming events in the upcoming reading Bible reading schedules, we've got that at the mobile app. We've also got that on the website. Just look for calendar and then click the appropriate. The appropriate link for upcoming events or Bible readings.
B
Do you have questions?
A
We do have questions. Thank you for reminding me. Got it.
B
You can ask those questions on our app, which is free gilbert house.org app
A
and we got sections or questions for Sharon, questions for Derek, and so so forth. And this is an interesting one given that we were just talking about Pentecost and the assumption of Jesus in heaven from Deb. Hey, Derek, I was thinking on the thief on the cross recently and how Jesus said to him, this day you will be with me in paradise. But then I got to thinking that as stated in 1st Peter 3, he descended into Sheol, Hades and preached. Proclaimed, actually, to the spirits who were disobedient in the days of Noah, which most scholars, I think, interpret as the watchers who were bound. That is correct. Anyhow, how can we reconcile these two statements? Did he first ascend to the father, then descend? Funny how sometimes a biblical passage that's so familiar suddenly poses a question we hadn't considered previously. Smiley, Smiley. Thanks in advance.
B
I love that question.
A
Yeah, dad, that's a really good one. This day you will be with me in paradise.
B
Well, what. What was the. The Jewish concept of paradise? It was Sheol, when the rich man goes to. She dies. And he sees Abraham's bosom.
A
Right.
B
On one side of a great divide.
A
Yeah.
B
And then the other side he's on.
A
Well, I don't think Sheol was considered paradise. And we wrote about this in veneration. The word paradise comes from an old Persian word, paradisa, which was a cognate for the term gan, meaning garden.
B
Garden. Exactly. And I would also say that they're right there. Right in the Garden of Eden when this happened.
A
Exactly. So it was this day in the garden, which would have been at Jerusalem, which is where, of course, they were crucified. Mount of Olives. And there was a garden where they were Gethsemane.
B
Exactly. But also crucified there. There are some who believe, and I sort of fall into this category, that the cross itself was upon the very spot where Adam and Eve fell.
A
Could be. Yeah. That would make sense. So the question is, did he, Jesus, first ascend, then descendants? I don't think so.
B
No, I don't think.
A
Because he said, later, don't touch me, for I've not yet ascended my father.
B
Right.
A
I think we're dealing with a timey wimey, wibbly, wobbly.
B
I do, too. Which is why, you know. Okay, what would the thief have thought? Where did he think he was heading?
A
Right.
B
He would have thought, shell.
A
Yeah. But instead, you know, you'll be with me in paradise this day.
B
I also want to encourage everyone to.
A
Well, of course, the Father was in paradise. This day you'll be with me. And Father, Son, Holy Spirit. Okay.
B
Yep.
A
There's the answer.
B
There is the answer. But also, I would encourage everyone to read Zeb Porat's new book. And I can't remember the title, but in it he takes a look at the symbolism of Mount Ebal and Mount Geretzeb with relation to the cross itself.
A
Oh, Shechem. Yeah, yeah.
B
Where Joshua stood between them. Yeshua was between.
A
Right.
B
Cursed one and a blessed one.
A
Right. The shoulders, which is.
B
Yeah.
A
Which is what means in Hebrew. Yeah. This day you'll be with me, Deb. I Mean it's forehead slap moment. The Trinity, Father, Son, Holy Spirit.
B
Yes, yeah.
A
One aspect of the Trinity was descending to proclaim to the spirits, not in shale, but in the abyss.
B
The abyss, Tartarus.
A
But the other two aspects, Father and Holy Spirit, were in paradise. So there's the answer.
B
Isn't that wonderful?
A
Yeah, we keep. Okay, good. Good question though, Deb.
B
Great question.
A
Another quick question, Ivan. Hi again. Regarding the origin of post flood giants. How about a hypothesis where actually Canaan K a I n a n brought back the Watcher's knowledge in practice? Book of Jubilees, chapter 8, verses 1 through 4. Plus the Septuagint says Nimrod becoming a giant. Well, I gotta look that up. As far as Nimrod, that's Genesis 10. The book of Jubilees was written at around the same time as the Book of Enoch, beginning in the 4th century BC. So I think while it's valuable for understanding how Jewish religious scholars viewed the Old Testament, I would not take that as inspired. So I would not. Would not take that as a good possibility. Good explanation for the, the post flood giants. I'm not even 100% sure there were post flood giants.
B
I think it was a different event, different manifestation physiologically. I think it had to do with worshiping these dead giants and worshiping the fallen Watchers through ritual behavior. And that ritual behavior, it is now known that the things you do prior to conception affect the child who is born. And so you can actually epigenetically change a fetus, a growing child.
A
Yeah, I know that there are verses like in Numbers 13, where the Anakim are said to be, you know, descended from the Nephilim or from the Nephilim.
B
And.
A
And then the second Samuel 21 where the five Philistine giants are said to be descendant or descendants of the giant or the giants. And we wrote about that in veneration and several other books. The Hebrew phrase, for example, 2nd Samuel 21 yaleed ha rapha literally means a devotee of the rapha. And rapha is the singular form of refuge, the giant. Right. Yaleed, properly defined, means one who's a member of a group into which one is born. Put born in air quotes by initiation or consecration. So in other words, it's a cult.
B
It still takes place today. We've talked about this before, how in Sardinia, the tombs of the giants are used for. For ceremonies. When a young person, usually a boy, turns 13, he or she will lie overnight in that tomb to incubate whatever spirit is there. That's sort of a crazy thing.
A
To do to this day.
B
Yeah.
A
Septuagint of Genesis 10, verse 8, Kush fathered nimrod. Verse 9. No, verse 8, Kush beget nimrod. He began to be a giant upon the earth. Read reads. Here we go. He was the first to be a giant on the earth. He was a mighty hunter before the Lord. The Brenton Septuagint reads, he was a giant hunter before the Lord God.
B
So exactly what that means, it's difficult to know. It does help to have have the Septuagint because that tells you what the Jewish scholars in the third century bc, how they understood that Hebrew text they were using. We no longer have access to that text. Yeah, but they chose to translate it into Greek from the Hebrew that way. Yeah, but I think that may be explained through epigenetics, through ritual behavior.
A
Yeah. And that we can document because we do know from Canaanite texts that the Rephaim, which was the term used for the Nephilim after the Flood.
B
Right.
A
Were venerated by the cultures around ancient Israel. In the Ugaritic dialect, it's usually rendered Rapayuma instead of Rephaim, but it's the same word. But what's interesting is that the root behind the Greek term for the demigods who lived during the Golden Age when Kronos ruled in heaven. Merope's Anthropoi, you know, the mighty men. In other words, that term derives from the same Semitic root behind Rephaim. So the Greek, the Greeks knew who the Rephaim were. They were, you know, Heracles and Theseus and Perseus and so on.
B
They did.
A
So, yeah. There is an overlap between what we call mythology and the Bible.
B
Great question.
A
So thank you very much again now. Yes. Oh, the OG report.
B
Yeah.
A
Give anything for this week?
B
I'm just going to say that on my sub stack and on my website, I shared both her Sharon K. Gilbert S H A R O N K G I L B E R T those are my counts on both of those shar Sharon K. Gilbert.com and Sharon K. Gilbert.substack.com I think. Is that it? I. I shared that I'm now writing again. It feels good to be sitting there tapping those keys and creating new sentences. I love that so much because my eyes are really pretty healthy these days. I see better than Derek does.
A
Yes, you do.
B
Which is one reason I do the driving. Take just one.
A
Yes.
B
But. Yeah, so that's what's going on with me.
A
So Monday I had a bone marrow biopsy, which was not nearly the horror show that people were warning me it could be. Apparently, things. Yeah, me too. Things have changed, apparently in the last few years where now they twilight you or sort of knock you out the same way they do for a colonoscopy. So I was vaguely familiar that something was happening, but I was not. Last thing I remember was hearing a young nurse with an Asian accent saying, okay, I'm shaving you now. And.
B
Yep. But. But the puncture spot is. Has started to heal really, really well.
A
Yes, And I was unaware of all of that. You know, friend of mine who had to have this done about eight years ago, they numbed him, they gave him lidocaine, but he was awake through the whole thing. You know, you hear the. The drill going into your bone.
B
It's like being in the dentist.
A
Yeah, that's bad enough, but anyway, I don't remember any of that. Preliminary results were encouraging. They've ruled out leukemia, which is good, but that would have been the lowest probability outcome. Anyway, we're still waiting on the final results. The good news, though, that my oncologist says he doesn't expect it to show anything of any concern. He really expected this to just rule out things like multiple myeloma, which is a bone cancer. And if that was what was going on, I would probably really. I would be. Yeah. Be really painful. And I'm not feeling any of that. So it will basically just rule out what the protein in my blood might have revealed. He said it's such a low level, he was not concerned about it. But you need to. You don't know unless you do the test.
B
Exactly. You have really good doctors.
A
Yeah. So doesn't get us any closer to figuring out the autoimmune issue and the neurological symptoms that result from it. But that's okay. I mean, I'm halfway through the three month protocol of prednisone, which is not what my neurologist wanted me to go through. He was pushing for intravenous immunoglobulin, which is the frontline treatment for cidp.
B
But it's very expensive.
A
Very expensive. And that's why the insurance company wouldn't approve it. So they wanted the prednisone for three months first. So I've got six more weeks of that before we can go back and say, okay, it didn't work because I'm not showing any improvement. If anything, my symptoms are worsening in my hands. But the doctor, to his credit, has already resubmitted the order, even though we're only six weeks into the 12 week protocol he's really pushing for.
B
Yeah, I like him.
A
Anyway, that's the OG report. I can still think. I can still speak, more or less, even though I have to clear my throat a lot.
B
But the Lord has. He's allowing this for his reasons. And I'll say again, we're not alone in this.
A
No, no. And we have tools. I'm using speech to text a lot and not done any writing of any length with that yet, but we'll need to start doing that soon. But working on some other things. And I like the project that we kind of been kicking around behind the scenes here, something called Five Things, which is just a series of short videos with basic information about biblical things like, okay, five things you didn't know or that you should know about Pentecost.
B
Right. So you're going to start recording those soon?
A
Soon, yeah.
B
You've already outlined quite a number of them.
A
Yeah. And found that I can. There are some tools, some graphics tools out there that allow me to create little infographics to go along with them that'll be really handy.
B
Yeah, very helpful.
A
Yeah. So anyway, that's. That's where we're going with all of that.
B
And the house, of course, is still for sale. In fact, we had a couple stop by yesterday. They drove past the place, pulled into the driveway. Yeah, I went out to meet them and they were looking. They live near here and their kids. I don't know if it's son and wife or daughter and husband, but kids, you know, that's how you say, are looking for a new home, that they can have some goats and things like that. So I showed them the barn and they were very impressed. But we also have a contingent contract on the house, and we're praying that that works out. The couple who put in the bid, they need to sell their home. So pray for that.
A
Yeah, good couple. And they would definitely use the barn for our King. And that is something that we would really be happy about.
B
We would love to have that barn be used for ministry, because you guys helped us build that barn better for ministry. And who knows, maybe the Lord's going to say, nah, you're going to stay here and it won't sell. I don't know.
A
We shall see. We shall see. I'll close with a word of prayer. Father, we thank youk for preserving youg Word, and Lord for allowing us to see things in youn Word. Every time we start digging deeper than we had seen before, we can reach the end of our lives. And I'm confident we will and still not have plumbed the depths that are your word, which have been miraculously preserved for 2,000, 3,000 years. Father, we pray for your spirit to grant us wisdom each time we read, to help us to understand better your will for us in the direction that you would have our lives go. Father, we pray for peace in the Middle east, although we know, Lord, that with the spirits that are desperately fighting to take control of your holy mountain, your mount of assembly, the Temple mount, that there will be no true lasting peace until the day you return. But Lord, we are blessed to have been able to see it with our own eyes. And knowing that someday, with these same eyes, we will see you stand upon that mountain where you will reign for a thousand years until that final battle with Gog and Magog, and then the establishment of the new heaven and the new Earth, when the sea, when chaos will be no more. Lord, may we, as we still draw breath, have the boldness to speak truth with those around us with gentleness and respect. May we be good ambassadors for you, our king, until that day when we are called home or you return. Father, we pray for those in need of healing this day, physical, spiritual, emotional, even financial. Lord, we pray for your blessing. We thank you for your sacrifice, Father. And again, Lord, we pray for the boldness, the courage to speak and pray that you would give us the right words, that we would draw those who do not yet know you closer to salvation. We thank you for this time we share together, Lord, and we pray for your blessing in Jesus name. Amen.
B
Amen. By the way, if you follow me on Facebook today, I will post pictures of grace and glory in their new home.
A
You're going to love these. You will Tonight on a view from the Bunker. Carl Teichrib will be one of the featured speakers in Ohio at the Go There for conference. He has visited a couple of pagan gatherings here in the last couple of months. And so we discuss the return of the pagan gods, or more accurately, the fact that they're always been here, but now they are starting to assert themselves again. Again.
B
Exactly. So he goes to these like he's on a mission trip.
A
Yeah. And does it so that we don't have to. But he's got some very interesting observations. A lot of the people at these pagan gatherings are people who came out of Christian churches because they didn't, they, they didn't get what they needed from those churches.
B
Those churches that somehow have de supernaturalized the Bible.
A
Yes.
B
When you have a question that needs to be answered with a spiritual warfare response. Yeah, they're not getting it right.
A
So that's very eye opening. And it's not a condemnation of any particular denomination. Not at all, Pastor. But sadly, when people have deep. I had a, an attack last night that felt spiritual and the pastor isn't prepared for the answer or maybe caught off guard or maybe is distracted because he's got 12 other things going on and a feud between members of the church council that he's got to mediate. It's sad, but the enemy will use all kinds of distractions to draw people away.
B
And there are a lot of young people that experience things like that. And that's why we love Vicki Joy Anderson so much.
A
Exactly.
B
She understands it from a first person, you know, experience. She knows.
A
Yeah. And Carl, to his credit, goes into these events like Paul on Mars Hill. I see you're all very religious. And then opens conversations from there.
B
Exactly.
A
So it's very valuable information and we really appreciate Carl and his work. So another reason to go to the go there for conference. But do tune in tonight. This will be released at 7:00pm Central Time. And until next time, I'm Derek Gilbert.
B
I'm Sharon Gilbert. Thank you for listening. We love you guys. The Lord Jesus Christ loves you as well. The comforter has come. Bye bye, everybody.

Gilbert House Fellowship – "Pentecost" Episode Date: May 24, 2026 | Hosts: Derek & Sharon Gilbert
In this special Pentecost episode, Derek and Sharon Gilbert depart from their usual chronological Bible study to focus on the meaning, history, and prophetic significance of Pentecost (Shavuot), the day the Holy Spirit descended upon the early followers of Jesus. Drawing connections from Acts, Exodus, Ezekiel, and Joel, they discuss the roots of Pentecost in the giving of the Law at Sinai, its echoes into Christian life today, and its importance for Israel and the global church. Along the way, they weave in personal stories, current events, and lively scholarly debate, creating an episode rich in biblical insight and practical encouragement.
On Pentecost’s Purpose:
“The cross is at the center of time and space.” (Sharon, 00:53)
On Relinquishing Control:
“It’s so difficult for us to move from the driver’s seat to the passenger seat and let you steer.” (Derek, 09:16)
On Spiritual Warfare:
“Each one of us is born on a battlefield.” (Sharon, 64:17)
On the Early Church:
“They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers and awe came upon every soul.” (Acts read by Sharon, 50:32)
On Israel’s Restoration:
“This is not dependent upon any behavior from the House of Israel. This is a one way covenant.” (Sharon, 61:31)
The episode maintains the Gilberts’ signature blend of scriptural depth and real-world application, punctuated by moments of humor, scholarly rabbit trails, and pastoral heart. The language is accessible yet anchored in studied analysis, encouraging listeners to see the unity of God’s work from Sinai to Pentecost to today, and to respond with prayer, advocacy, and Spirit-led service.
Final Invocation:
“The Comforter has come. And when you start to see how all these verses fit together…maybe I get a little emotional, having been to Israel now and made such good friends there...But we have the Holy Spirit—we are never, ever, ever alone.” (Derek & Sharon, 64:45)
